Andre Le Grange has almost 20 years of work experience in business development, sales management, operations management, and research. This includes 4 years as Sales Manager for an outdoor apparel company and 8 years as Business Development Manager for a research consulting firm. He has a postgraduate diploma in business administration from the University of Cape Town. Le Grange is seeking a new role that allows him to utilize his experience in business management, stakeholder relations, and developing strategies.
1. Introduction:
I have almost 20 years work experience: 4 years of which was gained as Sales
Manager/Business Developer for Cape Storm Outdoor Apparel in the clothing
sector; and 8 years as the Business Development Manager for Mthente Research
and Consulting Services who specialise in Socio Economic Research; Local
Economic Development (LED); and Programme Monitoring and Evaluation/
Impact Assessments. I supplement the aforementioned work experience with a
combined 6 years’ experience in distribution, warehouse and logistics
management; and 2 years as the Operations Manager at Mthente.
At Capestorm and Mthente (Mthente predominantly), my core role entailed the
management of business development activities; analysing and forecasting
sales data; developing and presenting proposals to key clientele in response to
request for proposals (RFPs); maintaining existing business relationships (CRM);
promoting and marketing the business; developing sales and market strategies;
and collating and analysing market intelligence in South Africa and the SADC
region.
The business development and research experience I have gained thus far has
allowed me to understand the developmental requirements of business and to
engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders within the public,
private, non-governmental and donor sectors. Furthermore, working in a small
and independent consultancy (and small businesses during my entire career
thus far) has allowed me to gain a holistic understanding of a business and
helped me develop a cross functional skill set in all its functional areas.
In 2005 I obtained my Associate in Management at the University of Cape
Town’s Graduate School of Business. My studies enabled me to refine my market
research and analytical skills as well as my project conceptualisation skills.
Developing a comprehensive market research and drafting a revised business
plan aimed at growing Capestorm Outdoor Apparel’s market profile formed the
core of my marketing thesis, which earned me a distinction. I obtained my
Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PDBA) at the same
educational institution in 2006, which further enhanced my management,

2. research and conceptual skills. Displaying my passion for new business and start-
up ventures, I joined Mthente after graduation.
Prior to working at Mthente, I spent six years at Capestorm Outdoor Apparel (at
the time also a start-up, in the volatile clothing sector dominated by national
clothing retail chains and increased market penetration by international retail
brands), where my role involved identifying and developing new business for
both their retail and business-to-business sector. To expand my understanding of
the international business environment, I left Cape Town to establish Capestorm
Outdoor Apparel Canada - based in Ottawa - in 2009. Though this venture
presented a fair share of challenges, the experience I gained further honed my
negotiation and market research skills. It also provided me invaluable insights
into the challenges South African small businesses face when engaging foreign
markets as well as deeper insights into the international business environment.
Attention to detail; professionalism; integrity; adaptability; openness to
continuous learning; creativity; cold calling experience; networking skills;
prospecting skills; research experience; local market knowledge; a proven track
record in meeting sales goals; and an innovative approach summarises the core
attributes I bring to the work I do.
The value I will bring is a depth of experience gained in diverse sectors; the
ability to manage diverse stakeholder relationships; the ability to communicate
and identify networking opportunities; commitment; a positive attitude; the
ability to motivate others; and a passion for business. I believe that this role will
allow me to display my full potential and to utilise my acquired knowledge.
I have include my resume where you can find detailed information on my
