“Discrimination Based on Appearance”
Accepting “Diversity”=Accepting “the Other” =
=Accepting “the Different”
“How do I look? We are all different, we are all beautiful.”
Discrimination is ever-present in any society. It is based on unexamined stereotypes and results in the prejudicial treatment of people who happen to be members of a particular group. Being different in appearance in a group of people is often converted in forms of discrimination and this is acted on every level of social life. Society makes assumptions which are unquestionably adopted by the majority of people. As a consequence ‘the Different” is automatically rejected.
Through the Greek subtopic, “Combatting Discrimination of Appearance-Accepting Diversity”, and our YoUtopia project in a wider context, we are investigating forms of discrimination upon ‘the Different’ and are pointing out the effects that such a behavior has upon people.
Heading to the opposite direction, by working under the principles of Equality and Tolerance, developing a spirit of Volunteering as a top significance procedure in social affairs, we equip ourselves with those qualities that can develop a collective conscience on combatting discrimination of appearance or of any other kind. Accepting diversity seems to be the only means of maintaining cohesion of society, coexistence and collaboration of individuals in a multicultural society of today.
We hope that this project, through getting sensitized on Appearance Based Discrimination issues and promoting Diversity principles, will challenge the participative members and the wider social circle that is being involved in activities one way or another to exhibit the benefits of being a multicultural society with respect for the “Different”.
As an impact of this endeavor we hope that students, teachers and parents are going to get more emotionally mature, develop empathy towards the subtle issues of Diversity and Human rights and confront their own bias and prejudices. Our common goal is to make apparent that Acceptance of “the Other”, “the Different”, enhances our quality of life and transforms us to thinking spiritual individuals that stand for the Right and for Justice.

This is my English assessment that I had made with one friend from high school about the theme of multiculturism. This is a somewhat lesson about, for example, how we can be very patient with some people, like Muslims, either that they had made terrible and bad things. I had nothing against the Muslims or any other race, culture or religion beyond ours.

Mosaic leadership approach to address pluralism
Introduction to pluralism
Pluralism is the perspective emerged from ground reality of the human phenomena. When we talk about a nation, a society or an organization, we cannot ignore the natural existence and possession of the unique belief systems of the people at individual, at group, at organization and / or a national level that are shaped by their local ecological, biological and cultural contexts and ways of subsidies. Individuals and leaders come together in organizations from all different abilities, ages, backgrounds, genders, orientations and races (Wilsey, 2013:4).
The term pluralism is used to signify multiple ideologies in political participation and diversified cultural systems in social institutions. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines pluralism as ‘a state of society in which members of diverse ethnic, racial, religious, or social groups maintain and develop their traditional culture or special interest within the confines of a common civilization’. The pluralism philosophy believes in mutual respect, equal importance and contributions in human civilization. According to Oxford Dictionaries, pluralism is ‘a condition or system in which two or more states, groups, principles, sources of authority, etc., coexist’. For Rechard Norman, ‘pluralism means divided loyalties- competing values and commitments, moral codes, principles and goals, distinctive regional and ideological outlooks, revolt ethnic and religious claims- but it also implies strength in diversity’. In educational leadership, it has similar meaning that is implied in social institutions.
Concept of term ‘mosaic’
The mosaic is found being used to refer to the decorative assemblage of the buildings in the ancient Greece and Rome. Mosaic is the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. It is a technique of decorative art or interior decoration. Most mosaics are made of small, flat, roughly square, pieces of stone or glass of different colors, known as tesserae; but some, especially floor mosaics, may also be made of small rounded pieces of stone, and called "pebble mosaics". As argued in the literature, ‘mosaic’ is the term derived from ‘Moses’ or ‘Muses’, name of person given by Pharaoh’s daughter in Egypt, which means ‘son of’ God.

‘Mosaic’ as metaphor
Metaphor is popularly used by speakers and writers to make an effective conceptualization or understanding on new, complex or abstract phenomenon. It is a figurative language represented in a single word or phrase that identifies one thing as being the same as some unrelated other thing by highlighting the similarities between the two. Metaphors are powerful and useful bridges particularly during time of upheaval. Metaphors operate by linking known concepts with new concepts and images (Marshak, 1993 , cited in Wilsey, 20

The ‚Gender Unlocked’ manual towards freedom of expression, liberation and emancipation is an educational tool. The activities are addressed to youth and social workers dealing with the LGBTQI+ community or with people who are searching their own sexuality. It is also designed to support human rights related to gender.
All the activities described in this manual are coming from the non-formal education
field, in which learning comes by doing and by experiencing. This means that participants get involved in the activities in order to explore themselves and their possibilities on the given subject, to practice with real situations and to gain diverse experience.
The activities are available to be used by other organizations, educators and everyone
who works with people who struggle with the acceptance of their own sexuality or gender.
This manual was created as a result out of the "Gender Unlocked" youth exchange, which took place in Ommen, The Netherlands in February 2015. The youth exchange was organised and hosted by the Synergy Olde Vechte Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation, which works with personal development trainings and non-formal education. The project was funded by Erasmus+.

6o Geniko Lykeio of Aigaleo. Modeling the House of Greece for YoUtopia Comeni...Kapetanidou Theodossia
YoUtopia 3D City is going to be our final project of our Comenius Programme, YoUtopia, Towards Participative Citizenship. Every country is designing their house and they are all going to be put together so as to form a city. This is the Greek House model that the Greek pupils have designed. We present some more paterns that pupils have made. Supervising teacher Kapetanidou Theodosia.
Greek pupils from 6o Geniko Lykeio of Aigaleo invited pupils from 7 different countries for friendly volleyball games on the last day of works of YoUtopia's Comenius Partnership. Different origins, cultures, general backround yet capable of finding common ways to collaborate and share unforgettable moments here in Aigaleo.
After a tiring but fascinating morning exploring the monuments on the Acropolis Hill and the New Museum of Acropolis, pupils of YoUtopia team stopped to get some rest and take memorial pictures. Though different concerning origin, culture and general backround they managed to find ways and procedures to collaborate for a common goal. They have been working together for 5 days in order to inquire Appearance Based Discriminatio
6o Geniko Lykeio of Aigaleo and their Comenius Youtopia partners visited the New Museum of Acropolis during the works of the partnership in Aigaleo, Athens, Greece. Beauty being apparent eveywhere, declares that the Ancient Greeks had a developed feeling of Beauty which is proved by the Golden Ration and the artifacts they created.
YoUtopia partners from 8 European countries visited the Temple of goddess Athena, the Parthenon. 2500 years after its constuction and destructions, it still inspires with its architectural perfection. Apart from the monument itself, one can have a full view of the city of Athens from above. The Acropolis Hill monuments are the Greek history and represent a golden era of prosperity during the Golden Age of Pericles, the 5th century BC
In this presentation there is significant information for the construction-artifacts that Ancient Greeks created around 5th Century BC and the distructions they have suffered by conquerors. It's a pity when monuments and pieces of History are victims of human conficts.
The YoUtopia partners visited Galaxeidi beautiful town, Itea and Delphi. They took interviews for impressions from many of them on their way back to Athens.
The Greek pupils of 6o Geniko Lykeio of Aigaleo will always remeber the days they spend with their guests from YoUtopia Family. They send you their memories-impressions with the promise that they are going to meet again sometime in the future.

Delphi, the land of prophecies
So much energy, so much beauty on the slopes of Parnassos.
Delphi arhaeological site was visited by the YoUtopian Family, a school Multilaterar Comenius Partnership, working on Active Citizenship, consisting of 8 European countries. The Greek topic "appearance based discrimination" was presented by partners in Aigaleo and the hosting school was the 6th General Lyceum of Aigaleo during 22-26 of September 2014.
We had the opportunity to visit the "omphalos" of the Earth, according the Ancient Greek Mythology. The scenery and the location of the site of Delphi, explains once more that Ancient Greeks believed in positive perspective of places and they always chose places with special characteristics to adore their gods.
The opening of the 4th visit works of YoUtopia Comenius School Partnership took place in Aigaleo being hosted by 6o Geniko Lykeio of Aigaleo on the 23rd of September, 2014. Our inquiry was on Appearance Based Discrimination and Acceptance of the "Different"

On our way to Athens, on Monday afternoon, the Greek Partners of Comenius Programme, YoUtopia Towards Participative Citizenship, offered a tour to their foreign partners through Cape Souninon and the Temple of Poseidon to Alimos Beach in Piraeus. At Sounion, the ancient temple of Poseidon, God of Sea, stands imposingly at the edge of the Cape, overlooking the Aegean Sea. The coastline streches out in the serenity of the Saronicos Gulf in the Aegean Sea, with a marvellous view when the sun starts sinking in the horizon.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Editor's Notes
Ποιος αν όχι εσύ;
Πότε αν όχι τώρα;
Πού αν όχι εδώ;
