Rhetorical Analysis Of The Four Freedoms Speech
Convincing an audience of 133.4 million is a daunting task, especially when they must be
convinced to join a war less than thirty years after World War I. On January 6, 1941, President
Franklin D. Roosevelt gave the State of the Union Address that began his third term as president.
This speech, broadcast across the United Stateson the radio, sparked the idea to join World War II
even before Pearl Harbor was attacked. In this speech, he fully supports the English against the
attack of the dictators trying to extinguish democracy across the world. He proposes the four
freedomsthat America is invested in protecting around the world: freedom of speech and
expression, freedom to worship God in any way, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. In his
speech, The Four Freedoms, Franklin Delano Roosevelt inspires nationalism and creates fear in his
audience to convince them to join the war ravaging through Europe through many forms of
metaphor and repetition. Throughout his speech, Roosevelt uses themes of nationalism through his
diction, repetition, and metaphor. The first example of this is in the first ten paragraphs where he
compares the situation in America to their history. He makes the current situation seem very
extreme and urgent which calls the citizens to act against this new threat. Throughout this, he
addresses the audience as We clearly making them feel American. Roosevelt also used a metaphor
about an eagle having its wings clipped. In this, America is represented by the eagle while the
bird stealing its feathers is meant to portray the dictators in Europe. This creates nationalism
because the eagle, normally the strongest bird and a common symbol of the United States, is
being stolen from, and there was nothing done to stop it. He also uses forms of repetition to
inspire the people to support the country. In the thirteenth paragraph, Roosevelt uses a
polysyndeton by repeating the word or to emphasize the American ideals that peace with the
Germans would not bring to the world. He does this because in 1941, most of continental Europe
had fallen to the Germans and if Germany were to win this war, those countries were likely to
never become democratic again. He uses the nationalism convince

Juvenelian Satire in A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift...
Effectively ushering change in society or pointing out faults that have existed and gone unnoticed
can be a daunting task for any social commentator. Often, blandly protesting grievances or concerns
can fall upon deaf ears and change can be slow or non existent. However, Jonathan Swift in his
pamphlet A Modest Proposal, uses clever, targeted, and ironic criticism to bring the social state of
Ireland to the attention of indolent aristocrats. He accomplishes such criticism through satire,
specifically Juvenalian satire. Swift s A Modest Proposal stands as an example of the type of satire
that plays upon the audience s emotion by creating anger concerning the indifference of the voice
created. He complements such criticism with sophisticated,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This fact arouses anger, in that the audience realizes the proposer seems indifferent to the fact that
he is proposing to murder thousands of children. Contrastingly, such morally unconventional
solutions would not exist in a calmer, straight forward Horatian satire. Yet, even in evaluating
how anger is emotionally imposed on the audience due to the absurdity of the proposal, it s
impossible to disregard the role of humor. There are obvious elements of humor throughout the
proposal and amusement in the very nature of the proposal is expected. However, any sense of
humor abruptly disappears at the heart of the critism. When the proposer begins stating I can think
of no one objection that will possibly be raised against this proposal the humor stops and the voice
of Swift, as well as sharp criticism, begins. Although humor may be an integral part of the proposal
and certainly a partial indication of the use of Horatian satire, the fact that humor isn t present
throughout the whole proposal suggests that the use of hilarity is secondary. Rather, this contrast of
humor and emotionally imposed irritation only helps to emphasize the role of anger. This is
especially evident when one considers the irony that litters the humorous proposal. Swift s
development of the absurd proposal

Tommy Hilfiger Vs. Able Time, Inc.
The first issue in this case is that Able Time Inc. bore the mark TOMMY on a product that
Tommy Hilfiger already offers, that product being, watches. In this case The Copyright Act
needed to take place because according to the text, this act gives the copyright holder the
exclusive right to distribute copies of the copyrighted work. I believe that this case is only
unlawful if there was no agreement between Able Time Inc. and Tommy Hilfiger. For example, if
Tommy Hilfiger proposed a Nontariff Barrier towards Able Time Inc. which consists of a wide
range of restrictions that prevent the free movement of goods between countries, then yes this case
is unlawful because Able Time Inc. would have went against antitrust laws. This case also mentions

Flaw Wang Analysis
In the story, Flaw, Wang delivers a very light hearted text to read. But, in this text Wang connects a
lot of the story together with details of the weather that help us connect the events. Wang uses the
weather to describe how the narrator feels about the problems, while also displaying the narrators
growth throughout the story. For example, the narrator opens up each problem or event that occurs
with the description of that moments weatherand season. Although the events occur on separate
days in different seasons the problems occur always on a sunny, hot day. It seems like the hotter the
weather is the bigger the problem may be and the more emotional and grown the narrator will
become. Wang starts off the pattern by incorporating in details of the weather, ...night passed and
day broke. In the early morning mist, the owners of the small grocery stores, still unlike their
counterparts in the city,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this summer day we find out that the dressmaking shop owner stole a hundred and fifty
thousand dollars from clients, workers, and friends, and ran off. Here the weather is used to
describe how he feels. The white hot sunshine is used to portray the anger and heat he feels for
the woman in the following scene when the narrator finds out the lady stole the money. This goes
on with the narrator going off to the roof where the sky above was a soft quiet blue (27), thinking
about the impact the women created on him, his family, and community. The soft quiet blue here
is used to describe his emotions as his anguish dematerializes and his emotions clear up to reveal
the sorrow he now feels towards the woman. The narrator then uses the mist and clouds to
describe the sadness he displayed that night when he realizes that he had been deluded, The scene
in front of me got misty, and I discovered that my eyes were filled with tears

Lady Macbeth Is Evil
We all have regrets. Sometimes, there is a certain someone that lead us to this bad decision. In
William Shakespeare s, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, wife of noble warrior Macbeth, has indirectly
influenced nearly every cruel decision made thus far in the story. Whether it is killing a beloved
king, or framing an innocent person for the bloody crime, Lady Macbethis behind everything. Lady
Macbethis a ruthless and manipulative woman because she pressures her loved ones to commit
horrible crimes, betrays those who have been nothing but kind to her, and does not care who she
ruins, as long as she reaches her goal. Lady Macbeth is a monster because she practically forced

Along killing a generous man and forcing her husband to commit a violent crime, she is also
willing to ruin the lives of countless other innocent people. Throughout the entire assassination
plot she wanted to pin the murder on two guards. First, she got both guards so drunk that they
would pass out and Macbeth would be able to slip into Duncan s room without being noticed.
Then, she stole their daggers so they could be used as the murder weapon. Finally, she wanted to
wipe Duncan s blood on the guards and ends up killing them. When Macbeth returns from
Duncan s chamber with the two bloody daggers, Lady Macbeth says, Infirm of purpose! Give
me the daggers. The sleeping and the dead are but as pictures. Tis the eye of childhood that fears
a painted devil. If he do bleed, I ll gild the faces of the grooms withal, for it must seem their guilt
(2.2.68 73). This quote depicts Lady Macbeth as being cruel and insensitive. She is going to
cover the faces of the unconscious guards with Duncan s blood, which will make them look very
guilty. Lady Macbeth is also more than willing to kill innocent people just for Duncan s position
of power. After she left MAcbeth to go frame the two guards, she ended up killing them, making
Macbeth tell Malcolm that he killed the two guards after seeing Duncan s dead corpse. After

How the Western Film Genre Has Developed over the Past...
The Western film genre is typically set in a secluded village in the middle of the desert,
normally in the American West. The setting includes wooden buildings, tumble weed, cacti,
trains, horses and carriages. The storyline for western films is usually the same, namely, a hero
travels to a remote village, usually on a horse, and brings peace to the warring villagers. In a
traditional Western film the clothing for the hero is usually a white hat, (this is to show purity).
The hero would also wear a brightly coloured shirt , a pair of jeans and cowboy boots with spurs
on the back of them. The hero is also very clean and also normally tall and good looking. A
traditional Western includes things like white settlers living in a town... Show more content on

The first film that showed early signs of a rise in the quality of technology was the Western The
Great Train Robbery. When this film first came out the audience were so amazed at the fact that
they could watch something on a TV or at the cinema. Although this film was very good for the
1900s it still lacked some key features that make films much easier to understand such as
dialogue, sound and camera shots. The one feature of a film that developed the quickest over
the period of time was sound. Sound was introduced in October 1927 in the film The Jazz singer
, which had three song numbers and a few lines of spoken dialogue. Apart from these few songs
and words, the rest of the movie was silent, but the audience still thought that it was amazing that
words had been spoken in the film, they used to call it the movie that talked . The Western
became one of the most popular film genres between the 1930s and the 1950s because of theses
advances in technology. The development of smaller, lighter cameras freed the cameras from a
tripod allowing more detailed camera work. To show moving effects cameras could be put on
platforms that were attached to rubber wheels or steel rails like railroad tracks. The cameras could
also be raised and lowered on cranes. Another thing that made Westerns more popular was the
introduction of full colour in the 1930s and widescreen in the 1950s,

Typography Analysis Paper
Jonathan Morales ENC1101 Professor Lehn 7/14/2015 Analyzing typography Text and
typography although often confused are not the same thing. By definition, text is The actual
wording of anything written or printed. This can also be thought of as the sequence of letters or
words made into existence. Take the text She s broken for example. No matter how you say the
text or read the text or hear the text, it ll always be the same; She s broken . But when this text is
displayed either digitally or physical on a paper, typography comes into play. Font may be the first
thing to come to mind, but the font is merely a small part of typography. Color, size, kerning,
leading, and weight are just a few of the many key components to typography. As... Show more

Just as in print, typography can be found anywhere there s text being shown such as in titles,
credits, and any overlays. This is the more common form in which it is found. But a new use to
typography is being introduced in the form of a video. And it s being used for music videos,
educational videos, and even sport commentaries. The most common use of these come from
music videos or often referred to as lyrical music videos . One great example is a lyrical video of
Swedish House Mafia s song Don t you worry child made by Felippe Silveira. In his video he
uses lines and dots from existing words on the screen and manipulates them to form other words.
For example, in the beginning of the video he uses a dot from the logo of the artists and
stretches it out across the screen to form a line. Out of that line then grows the words There was
a and the word Time comes from underneath the line but also uses the line for the top part of the
T in time. The words then condense back into the line and the line rotates 90 degrees. Being a
vertical line going across the screen, it shrinks and turns into an i. Then it turns into a T forming
the word to . A few words later he uses the Y from the word eyes and drops the leg of the Y down
to the bottom of the screen and forms an i to make the word in . Throughout the video he
continues to manipulate letters and create symmetrical eye pleasing shapes with the words
making sure there is alignment and some sense of containment so that the sentences are
perfectly even. A more complex approach is the more popular video by Weird Al Yankovic called
Word Crimes . In his video he uses other visual aids to really make his video unique. For
example in the beginning he talk about not knowing how to conjugate and failing a test. He uses
the background of a desk and a piece of a paper on top and the lyrics appear as part of the test.
When he refers to failing

Questions On The Energy Infrastructure
Final Examination
Question 1
The Energy infrastructure is comprised of three different segments, electricity, oil and gas; all of
which come together to provide resources to other critical Infrastructures such as the transportation,
communications, IT, finance and other infrastructures depending on them to function (DHS, 2016).
In the U.S., we rely so much on the energy infrastructure because it helps us function and survive.
We spend billions of dollars a year in energy consumption.
Without energy resources, millions of people could get hurt, some die and the economy would be
negatively affected. Our homes, offices and businesses would be left without light, a.c. and gas.
Our transportation system would be crippled, and communications would be almost impossible.
In order to acquire energy products, they have to be explored, refined and transported. What that
means is;
Exploration: This is the initial starting point of energy development. In this sector, oil locations are
found; drills and pipelines are used to absorb these resources which are then converted to other
forms of energy resources such as petroleum, gas, electricity, jet fuel and much more. Most of
these exploration locations are found in remote areas; areas like the Middle East, Mexico, and
Africa, areas hard to get to, in the middle of the sea or where no one would go.
The good thing about exploration is it makes it possible to find new locations and

The And New England Colonies
Everyone has an external force that motivates them in some way that allows them to be able to
go about their everyday lives and fulfill their ambitions. Within the years of 1580 and 1763 this
force took the form of God. Around this same time was when the Chesapeake and New England
colonies were in the process of being founded. As a result, these two settlements did nothing
without referencing their actions to God. Due to this heavy focus on God as the reason behind
every aspect of their lives, chaos began to sprout soon after the settlers began settling and started
living their new lives in the colonies. Since the colonist believed that God dictated their entire
lives; they never felt that they were in the wrong. Not once did the colonists stop to think that they
had no right to steal the natives land. If God had not smitten them, then they thought that God
approved of what they were doing. In this case, the colonists were in the process of acquiring land
that the earth bringeth foorth all things in aboundance, as in the first creation, without toile or
labour... the most plentifull, sweete, fruitfull, and wholesome [soil] of all the world . The new
land that the colonists wanted to take appeared similar to the Garden of Eden. Since they
successfully made their voyage to the new land, it looked as if God allowed them to enter a land
similar to one of his own. If God gave the colonists access to the land, then wouldn t that mean that
the colonists were entitled to the land

Essay on The Moor in the Works of William Shakespeare
The Sources and Representations of the Moor in the Works of Shakespeare
One theme consistently reemployed throughout Shakespeare s plays is that of the Other. The Other
is usually characterized as a character that is somehow separated, stigmatized, or noted as being
different from the mainstream ideal. For the Elizabethan England of Shakespeare s time, it may have
been a self defensive maneuver against the encroachment of something which threatened too close
to home (Bartels 450). Bryant lists several methods used to employ this convention of the Other:
race such as that of Shylock and Aaron, nationality as in Iachimo, bastardy such as the characters
Don John and Edmund, social status such as that belonging to Iago, and ... Show more content on

Whether the term Moor had a definition of white or black, of pagan or Muslim religion, or area of
origin seems to be interchangeable when one notes the differences between Shakespeare s four
characters. Sources of the Elizabethan image of the Moor most likely came from sources such as
classical descriptions, actual encounters, travel narratives, and literary conventions (Bartels 433).
Why is the Moor prevalent during Shakespeare s time? What was the importance of or the
sources for this new Other in English literature? Shakespeare uses the Moor as being
characterized in several ways and used for varied dramatic purposes. In order to have a full
understanding of the Moorish character in Shakespeare s works, one must look to history s
relations and depictions of the Moor and how it influenced Shakespeare.
Moors were characterized in Elizabethan England as being alternately or even simultaneously noble
or monstrous, civil or savage. Being a different race meant, primarily, being an Other, non English,
as well as non Christian (Braxton 8). The term Moor, as I have noted before, was fairly vague in
definition. Bartels points out that in common usage, the word was used many times
interchangeably with similarly ambiguous terms as African, Ethiopian, Negro, and even Indian

Compare And Similarities Between Sherlock And Doctor Who
From England to the United States, BBC America has aired their highly regarded television shows
in our vast continent since 1935. BBC, standing for the British Broadcast Channel, has produced an
abundant amount of nominated television shows from Merlin to Downtown Abbey. However,
BBC is well known for capturing the hearts of teenage and middle age individuals from their
nominated television shows called Sherlock and Doctor Who. Airing on BBC America since the
1960s, Doctor Who is the longest running television show on BBC America. On the other hand,
from Arthur Conan Doyles The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, comes a contemporary twist in the
story and characters of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson. By looking at the outer portions
of the shows, one can view them as polar opposites. However, both the British television shows
share exceedingly similar qualities in their plot and characteristics of the main leads and their
companions in the show. Sharing similar characteristics in the roles that they play, Sherlock Homes
form Sherlock and The Doctor from Doctor Who are both intelligent lonely men who fancy a sense
of adventure. The Doctor and Sherlock are both perceived as Gods from their astounding
intelligence and being able to overcome death. They are rather intelligent then the companions they

Rood Vs Beowulf
Heroic Actions Pay Off
The Dream of the Rood
The Son was victorious in venturing forth, / mighty and triumphant when he returned with many,

Beowulf
The treasure had been won, bought and paid for by Beowulf s death.
Both had reached the end of the road, through the life they had been lent (2842 2845). The Dream
of the Rood and Beowulf both have similarities that show a heroic image for the main character
in the stories. These two passages both show how the heroic character in the end of their stories
received a glorious ending to their lives. For example, in The Dream of the Rood the particular

the Rood went through and stood for was a heroic image for them to see the Rood not fall before

Integrity In Water Parks
Integrity is how a person is judged and will be remembered after they are gone. In other words
integrity is a person s word and how they ensure no matter what they always stick by their word
regardless of the situation and always be honest not only with people around them, but to
themselves as well. This allows individuals around to trust and believe in you and realize you can
be relied upon in any situation. I do not agree how Malcolm in the Middle portrays integritynot only
within a family, but as individuals. In the episode Water Parks Hal and Lois continually made
jokes in regards to their son Dewey and how there is not a babysitter in their town that will
babysit him due to his disruptive behavior. Hal and Lois appeared to pick up the phone and open

waterpark, unless they were able to prove to me they were responsible enough. Point in case,
Malcolm was afraid to ride the monster water slide and he did not have the support of either

he made it worse with his lack of compassion. This showed little integrity the lifeguard

On Narcissism, The Uncanny, And Beyond The Pleasure P
I will focus on three essays by Sigmund Freud: On Narcissism, The Uncanny, and Beyond the
Pleasure Principle. By examining these three essays, the influence of Freud s theories can be
determined. These essays will determine what Freud offers literary critics today and how they use
his theories in their work. Many of Freud s theories overlap; his theories of the unconscious are
explored in Beyond the Pleasure Principle and The Uncanny. In studying Freud s theories, and
applying them to literature and literary criticisms, the progression of psychologyand the
understanding of humanity will become clear. Psychological theory studies the human mind. In
relation to literature, psychological theory studies the characters. What are their... Show more

Psychology has always had a deep impact on literature, so much that authors must use this theory to
delve into their characters motivations and actions. It is evident through the three Freud essays
discussed that topics and ideas seem to overlap. This is the nature of studying psychology; concepts
and ideas are connected to create a network that can be studied applied to not only the human mind,
but to the mind of an author or their fictional characters. In applying Sigmund Freud s ideas to
literature, critics can examine characters as if they were real. In our world, these characters are
not real. In the context of a work of fiction, for example, the characters are real. The confines of a
novel is the space in which they are alive. Examining characters as if they too have an unconscious

Being Danny s Best Man

lovely party. Whether you have brought food, or helped decorate this place, or just come to
support the happy couple, thank you. Secondly to the bridesmaids, you have done a magnificent
job helping the bride today, and you all look amazing, so a big thanks to you too. Finally Tom
would like me to thank his beautiful new wife for turning up today. I saw him this morning
when he was worrying, and it wasn t a pretty sight. He has asked me to tell you how happy you
have made him by becoming his wife, something that I am sure he will go into in more detail in
his speech, but still, thank you. When Danny asked me to be his best man, part of me was
honored, part of me was terrified, but mostly I was laughing that he s finally admitting what we ve
known all along, that I am, in fact, better than him. Having never been a best man before, I had to
spend several hours surfing the Internet to try and find out exactly what my duties would be. So
apparently the most important thing I had to do was make sure Danny got to the church on time,
looking presentable, clean cut and sober. Some of you may have

Hollywood has been a formidable force in the film industry since the 1910 s onwards. As with any
industry that has lasted that length of time, Hollywood has gone through a few changes to deal
with the changes in technology and culture. One of the more significant changes that Hollywood
has faced since the advent of sound in films, was the fall of its Golden Era. There were a
combination of reasons the industry went through dramatic changes in the late 1950s to mid 1960s.
The Paramount decree and other government imposed limitation on power of the studios, change in
audience demographic, and a strict code system limiting the types of stories that could be told

children but not quite adults and the perceived freedoms they deserved, a revolutionary idea in a
society where those under a certain age were children and above it were adults. Teen culture in

Muscular Contributions And Hip And Knee Extension During...
The article Muscular contributions to hip and knee extension during the single limb stance phase
of normal gait: a Theoretical Framework for Crouch Gait by Allison Arnold, Frank Anderson,
Marcus Pandy, and Scott Delp investigates the biomechanics of normal gait in hopes to uncover
ideas to help determine treatments for crouch gait. Crouch gait is a bothersome abnormality that
affects the gait pattern of people who suffer from the condition of cerebral palsy. It s characterized
by excessive flexionof the hips and knees during standing and excessive use of metabolic energy to
complete a single gait cycle. Currently, the treatments for this condition are limited and have
unpredictable outcomes due to the unknown biomechanical causes of the excessive flexion in
crouch gait. These treatments include surgical lengthening of hamstrings, ankle foot orthoses, and
intense stretching regimens, with patients experiencing results ranging from no improvement in
their symptoms to dramatic improvements. The vast array of results from treatments are due to the
little understanding medical professionals have of not only abnormal gait patterns (such as crouch
gait) but of normal gait as well (Arnold, Anderson, Pandy, and Delp, 2005). Despite the article s
title relating to crouch gait, the purpose of the study conducted was to examine and quantify the
accelerations of normal hipand kneemovements that were induced by specific muscles during the

Issues in Retail Management
Issues in Retail Management
The choice of a suitable retail category to investigate the issues affecting the retail environment is
crucial, and it should be representational in nature. This is essential because the rest of the retail
categories can apply the recommendations for overcoming the issues. The retail category that can
be useful in exploring the issues affecting module themes of global and international retailing,
sustainability and ethics, and technology and retailing is foodstuffs and consumables. This retail
category is at a better position to explore the module themes because it has a broad market. For
instance, it is also essential to note there are no geographical barriers restricting people on the food
that they consume, sustainability is an important aspect of foodstuffs and consumables category,
and the use of technology in retailing has had a significant impact on the retail category.
In addition, there are ethical issues that affect the retail of foodstuffs and consumables that retailers
need to address in order to achieve a competitive edge in the market. This retail category represents
the rest of the categories because all issues relating to all the themes of the module affect it and any
recommendations from this examination may be useful to the rest of the retail categories.

Who Is Hulu s Target Market
Companies always reshape their product to grow or to obtain their goal. Now multiple
companies are buying one another to get a better reach of their target market. The first article
from Advertising Age states that Hulu will stop offering TV shows for free. That is quite
daunting for the users you range from all ages especially millennials who are the main users. The
streaming service is discarding its free platform that provided streaming viewers with a library of
hundreds of movies, TV shows, and clips since 2007. Hulu s decision to terminate free streaming
is a major step as it tries to gain more traction against other streaming video sites, such as Netflix,

It is drastic because when Hulu was announced back in 2005 the cable companies weren t too
happy about another platform getting all the views. Now they are on board with cable cutting.
And that new, live TV service just got a ton more channels: CNN, TBS, Cartoon Network, TNT,
and more. Not a bad haul! Alongside that buy in is the guarantee of Time Warner s many TV
channels and the content they produce to Hulu s live TV offering. Time Warner is far from the
first major TV content creator to hook up with Hulu s live TV service. NBCUniversal, Disney,
and Fox are all in talks with Hulu to offer channels on the new service. There are still lots of
questions about the new service, like when exactly it will launch and how much it ll cost. Rumors
put the service at between $30 and $40/month, with an expected launch in early 2017. The two

The Life Of Susan B Anthony
Born on February 15, 1820, Susan B Anthony was a young teacher, and grew up with an active
family. Then one day she realized that she got less money than the male teachers, just because of
her gender. That s when she decided to fight for women s rights. I chose her because she would
fight to prove that women are able to vote.
Susan had some hard challenges in her life just for the rights of women. Some were that she couldn
t work for money, she couldnt tell others of her ideas, or oppose petitions. When Susan met
Elizabeth Cady Stanton they became best friends. They formed a group of women who fought for
suffrage. No matter what challenge they came up against, they kept on trying to accomplish their

Essay On Evolution Of Mobile Phones
Evolution of Mobile Phone Technology
Mobile phone
A mobile phone (also known as a cellular phone, cell phone and a hand phone) is a device that
can make and receive telephone calls while moving around a wide geographic area. It does so by
connecting to a cellular network provided by a mobile phone operator, allowing access to the
public telephone network. By contrast, a cordless telephone is used only within the short range of a
single, private base station.
In addition to telephony, modern mobile phones also support a wide variety of other services such
as text messaging, MMS, email, Internet access, short range wireless communications (infrared,
Bluetooth), business applications, gaming and photography. Mobile phones that offer... Show more

It was commercially introduced in the Americas in 1978, Israel in 1986, and Australia in 1987.
AMPS was a pioneering technology that helped drive mass market usage of cellular technology,
but it had several serious issues by modern standards. It was unencrypted and easily vulnerable to
eavesdropping via a scanner; it was susceptible to cell phone cloning; Many of the iconic early
commercial cell phones such as the Motorola DynaTAC Analog AMPS were eventually
superseded by Digital AMPS (D AMPS) in 1990, and AMPS service was shut down by most North
American carriers by 2008.
Digital cellular networks 2G
In the 1990s, the second generation mobile phone systems emerged. Two systems competed for
supremacy in the global market: the European developed GSM standard and the U.S. developed
CDMA standard. These differed from the previous generation by using digital instead of analog
transmission, and also fast out of band phone to network signaling. The rise in mobile phone
usage as a result of 2G was explosive and this era also saw the advent of prepaid mobile phones.
In 1991 the first GSM network (Radiolinja) launched in Finland. In general the frequencies used
by 2G systems in Europe were higher than those in America, though with some overlap. For
example, the 900 MHz frequency range was used for both 1G and 2G systems in Europe, so the 1G
systems were rapidly closed down to make space for the 2G systems. In America the IS 54 standard
was deployed

Egyptians believed in. Egyptians would create these pieces to fit over the heads of the lost lives

William Blake Research Paper
When we discuss Romantic poetry, William Blake is one of the forerunners of that literary
period. His two major poetical works include Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. In
both of these collections, there is a poem titled The Chimney Sweeper . In both of these poems,
we observe the innocence of childhood suffering from subjugation to harsh manual work. In the
concerned poems, two perspectives are given. First, the child is innocent and believes in
whatever his parents have told about the magnificence in the eyes of God of those who work. In
this manner, Blake portrays the way the innocence of little children was exploited by their parents
for a meager amount of money. Second, Blake questions and shows skepticism towards the
implied hypocrisy of his parents as they sold him to sweep chimneys and goes themselves to
church and pray to God. In this poem, Blake shows that the child has become aware of the ruthless
behavior of his parents, who sold him for money alone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The father exploits the innocence of the child, sells him in chimney business, and consoles him
hypocritically with religious stories. Apart from the fact that this description throws light on the
sensibility of those times in which Blake wrote, it also shows the aspect of religion which is
employed for exploitation and forgery. As the child is innocent, he is willing to believe in any
story of angels and after life. On the one hand, it magnifies the innocence of childhood and on the
other hand, it shows the heartless indifference of the father to his own son. Overall, the villainous
character of the father in relation to his son can be observed in this pair of

A Comparison of Arthurian Legend in Various Stories
Arthurian legend was a genre many writers used in Chaucer s day. It is a story made of romances,
heroism, and ballads mostly about Arthur s chief knight Sir Gawain who was mainly a man of
social and ethical virtue. Often time s Arthurian legend is a story of a knight who fights the bad
guy, learns a lesson, saves the day and get s the girl. Although sometimes the knight may start off
as the bad guy as he did in one of Chaucer s famous tales The Wife of Bath. Although Arthurian
legend was used in many stories of that time, often the details were changed around to make the
story unique but all in all kept the same idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A young lustful knight rapes a young maiden one day in Arthur s courts and is threatened to be
put to death. The queen offer s him a second chance by offering a challenge. The challenges was
that he was given a year to figure out what women truly want from their husbands and come back
and present his findings. A year pasts and he doesn t find his answer. As he s heading back to
Arthur s court to face certain death he meets an old hag. This old hag makes a deal with him that
she will give him his answer and help him if he pledges himself to her. He agrees and heads back
to the courts and presents his answer. When his life is saved the old hag comes up and asks the
knight to marry him. Of course he is forced to say yes and on their wedding night the old hag finds
him rather upset with the whole situation. She then offers him another deal. She gave him the
choice to pick between having an unfaithful but young and beautiful wife, or a faithful and true
older, uglier wife. The knight tells the old hag she can choose and when he says this, she turns into
a young beautiful woman and promises to always stay truthful to him because he rendered himself
to her. This is another story presented with a situation that would never be able to happen in real
life. The question raised is why these authors would add these supernatural stories into their
literature when their audience was clearly protestant. I think that these

Zoot Suit
The definition of escape is, to slip away from or elude ( Escape ). This concept is shown in the play
Zoot Suit through Henry Reyna s relationship with his identity as the pachuco leader of the 38th

does not want the rest of his family to endure the unjust treatment that the police and other white
Americans aim at pachucos. In the play, Zoot Suit, Henry Reyna and his gang are accused for
murder. The murder trial was biased against Henry s gang and they remained in prison until they

One example is during the dance, when Henry and Rafas, a member of the Downey Gang, get
into a fight, Henry eventually gains the upper hand and Rafas is at his mercy, however, instead
of harming him, Henry just tells him to leave. Then, Bertha, Henry s old girlfriend says The old
Hank would have slit Rafas belly like a fat pig. (Valdez 47). This shows that Henry used to be
much more ruthless than he was in the play. This is because he realizes that any violence that he
does, no matter how small, will come up again, and could stop him from joining the military or
from getting a decent job after the war. Because he realized this, he began to think about what
effect his actions may have on his future. Another example is when Henry decided to back out of
the appeal (Valdez 70). Instead of fighting the racist and corrupt justice system that put him in
jail, Henry thought that, by accepting the punishment, he would be viewed as more American,
and perhaps he would get out of jail early for good behavior. When Henry decided that he was
going to join the navy he was thinking about his future as well. In the play Henry says, I was all
set to come back a hero, see? Me la rayo. For the first time in my life I really thought Hank Reyna
was going someplace. (Valdez 30). Henry knew that the only way he could gain respect from the
police and the white Americans was by

Suffering In Cormac Mccarthy s Blood Meridian
There is a horde of explanations pertaining to the epilogue of Blood Meridian. The short passage
has sparked ideas of the idealistic human nature of suffering, the search for enlightenment through
Gnosticism, and the subtle persuasion that lies beneath eloquent language, both in Judge Holden s
claims and Cormac McCarthys narration. It is important, before delving into these ideas, that the
passage is recounted.
In the dawn there is a man progressing over the plain by means of holes that he is making in the
ground. He uses an implement with two handles and he chucks it into the hole and he enkindles the
stone in the hole with his steel hole by hole striking the fire out of the rock which God has put
there. On the plain behind him are the wanderers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has no desire to alleviate human suffering, or to intervene in humanity s slow self
destruction; he only watches. McCarthy uses these ideas as a platform for the bizarre
atmosphere of the West, calling into question why a creator in favor of humanity would create a
place so desolate and violent. The man in the epilogue is described as striking the fire out of the
rock which God has put there, suggesting that he is a pneumatic (Someone who understands the
true state of the cosmos and the nature of the nameless Alien God ) who frees the sparks of the
divine fire trapped in matter or rock by the God of this world, the demiurge. Within the context
of Gnosticism, the steel of the man s tool causes sparks as he digs; each hole dispersing these
sparks into the cosmos and restoring unity to the Alien God. This difficult process is one of
salvation, and the pneumatics task is a long and ongoing one, as each spark that dies without
escaping to the alien God is thrown back into its realm, and thus they all move on again like
clockwork, presumably until the last bit of fire has been freed from the rocks. In this framework,
those who have not attained spiritual enlightenment follow the man and the holes he s making.
Those who search for bones are followers of religions that claim that all will be revealed in the
afterlife. These wanderers look to the empty promise of death for salvation, not realizing that
without Gnosis (Gnostic enlightenment) they will be flung back into the manifest world, life after
life. The ones who do not search are the materialists, content with the achievement of wealth and
power, who are even less awakened to Gnosis than those who search for answers in bones. Both
parties move haltingly in the light like mechanisms because they do not posses free will, and
display themselves as

Puritanism In America Today
Puritanism was a set of beliefs that sprang up after the Protestant Reformation. This was especially
focused on self indulgence and sex. Puritanism should not to be practiced in America today
because of all the negative effects it had created , such as being the enemy of freedom in the
twentieth century, portrayal of sexuality of the human body, and the search for religious freedom,
while being intolerant to other religions. One of the reasons why Puritanism should not be
practiced in America today is because it was the enemy of freedom in the twentieth century. In The

The nudity of woman was excessively used which made people forget the significance of the
human body, especially for females. Emma Goldman herself writes, Thus Freud believes that the
intellectual inferiority of so many women is due to the inhibition of thought imposed upon them
for the purpose of sexual repression (9). Basically, Goldman is saying how many women had
became self conscious because there bodies were given such low respect which had made them
feel uncomfortable and worthless. Equally important, Puritans searched for religious freedom,
while being intolerant to other religions. In the Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by
Jonathan Edwards, he tells people to accept Christianism so they can save themselves. In fact he
also says, Therefore, let everyone that is out of Christ, now awake and fly from the wrath to come
(101). Edwards states if you are not Christian then god is ready to burn you up, so you better run
fast. In short, Puritanism lead to a huge amount of negative effects in America and should not be
practiced. Nowadays women are told they are beautiful no matter what size they are. If Puritanism
was practiced in America today then there would be judgements in having freedom. Since
puritanism has passed, the society has evolved in many ways such as, relationships, religions,

Similarities Between Benjamin Franklin And Malcolm X
Benjamin Franklin and Malcolm X were both influential people in their time. They are models of

Benjamin Franklin is a man of many titles, along with being one of our founding fathers he also is
an author, the postmaster of the time, an inventor, a diplomat, a civic activist and many more
things. Franklin had three qualities that reflected the values and characters of Americans in the 18th

Types And Diagnosis Of Depression
In a world today where antidepressant medications seem to be handed out like candy, could it be
that not every person who says they are depressed needs medication? Is a full on antidepressant
the best solution for a person who is displaying the symptoms of a very mild form of depression?
In order to explore this topic more fully, we must establish the definition and diagnosis of
depression. According to the DSM V, depression is defined and diagnosed with at least five of
the following symptoms during a two week period: Depressed most of the day, nearly every day
Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all or almost all activities most of the day nearly
every day Significant weight loss/gain or increase/decrease in appetite when no dieting is present
Insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day
Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate
guilt Diminished ability to think, concentrate, or indecisiveness nearly every day Recurrent
thoughts of death, recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or suicideattempt or a specific
plan for committing suicide
These symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other
important areas of functioning. The symptoms are not due to the direct physiological effects of a

the Gohonzon. Hindu tradition has portayed that they lived in the mid slopes of Mount Sumeru in
four different directions guarding the Buddha whilst the latter meditated against possible
interference from evil forces. They are revered as powerful protectors of Buddha and the Dharma.
All four heavenly kings serve Shakra, the lord of the Devas of TrДЃyastriб№ѓЕ›a. Popular folklore

It is four boats tied together. It divides the earth s surface into four regions. The same four
regions are represented by the Four Heavenly Kings in the corners of the Gohonzon. Nichiren
Daishonin had alluded to them in no fewer than seventy of his gosho s though not exclusively or
directly. They were always depicted together with other heavenly and/or earthly beings,
especially resemble that of the situation in the ceremony in the air chapter 11 of the Lotus Sutra.
Another interesting role of the Four Heavenly Kings is perhaps the maintenance of discipline
amongst various gods of the Trayastrimsa Heaven. In parallel they are assumned to fulfil the role
of the Military Police in the army! Nicheiren Daishonin discloses and describes this role via one
of his Goshos On reprimanding Hachiman when the God Hachiman Bosatsu who were deemed to
have failed in his duty to protect the votary of the Lotus Sutra had his Tsurugaoka shrine in
Kamakura was burned down in 1280 (WND II: pp920 940), possibly a punishment executed by the

Innocence versus Sexual Awakening Essays
Innocence versus Sexual Awakeming The transition from childhood to adulthood is a complex but
universal passage. Both Katherine Mansfield s The Wind Blows and D.H. Lawrence s The Virgin
and the Gipsy embody adolescent angst in their characterization. Matilda and Yvette search for
meaning beyond the lives they perceive they are condemned to lead. Both bring about greater
understanding of the struggle between a young girl s struggle of innocence versus sexuality. In
similar uses of metaphor and imagery the stories tell the tale of social convention, romanticism and
sexual awakening.
The Virgin and the Gipsy is written with little surprise or subtlety in it, as is suggested by the title.
Lawrence has a theme of human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of the two girls has a high spirit infused by passion. Neither actually experiences desire
persay but awaken to the idea itself. Yvette dreams of falling violently in love (12) and Matilda
hints at love through heading for the open gate (Mansfield 58). Both seem to imply the context of
a society that pretends desire only occurs on a limited basis within marriage or class structure, for
fear the thought was obscene , (115). Anything outside of that realm of possibility should not be
expressed.
Mansfield implies the passion that Matilda feels for Mr. Bullen with her heart racing and him
waiting for her (55). Matilda feels content upon entrance to her piano teachers home. There is
warmth that overcomes her through the smells and images that surround her senses. Matilda has a
feeling that they know everything about each other (55) which suggests intimacy on her part.
From Mr. Bullens point of view, there is only a portrayal of adult concern as in two instances
Matilda is reminded that she is still a little lady (55). Yvette lay and wishes she were a gypsy(52).
The life of the gipsy is different in every way from her own, she is smitten by him with her
childlike eyes (67) but still paralyzed by the fear of social convention for fear the thought was
obscene (115). The gypsies were most outside the world she was brought up in therefore subject to
her fascination. The dark and handsome gipsy was a fantasy man for Yvette one in

Variations of the Game of Cricket
Trobriand cricket, engaged by Trobriand Islanders, has been referred to as a distinct variation of
standard cricket. Christian missionaries originally introduced cricket to the islands as a sport to
discourage war among the populace. The sport has been extensively modified by the Trobriand
society through increasing the amount of players, dancing, chanting, and adjusted bats and balls.
As the game of cricket substituted war among the people of the island when war was forbidden, it
has incorporated most of the older traditions linked with war for the Trobriand nation. The sport
also reflects the objective of pride instead of ceremonial tradition, which was introduced to islands
by their British conqueror and the American soldier during World War II.
The Trobrianders of Papua New Guinea were usually horticulturists who demonstrated and achieved
prestige and manhood throughout contest. These rivalries included the ability to plant yams, the
skill of making good trades and acquiring valuables, and maintaining the strength of a fighter.
Conversely, when Europeans missionaries occupied the island, the Trobrianders were required to
give up their tradition of warfare. When this happened, they lost a cultural outlet necessary to
preserve the political society and equilibrium of power between the Australasian islands. In order to
complement this loss, the missionaries initiated the game of cricket to the islanders, soothing their
competitive character. Even though this game was

Rhetorical Analysis Response
After the calibration process, along with juxtaposing the current timed write to my prior
rhetorical analysis response, I now further comprehend my strengths and weaknesses as a writer.
My introduction paragraph has grown immensely in terms of my ability to fully express the topic
which I will address in response to the prompt. In my timed write, I open with a strong thesis
statement in which I expeditiously identify the main theme of the following speech as the severe
lack of labor laws. Although this is the paramount topic, I failed to address the underlying theme
of women s rights used by Florence Kelley to justify her view on labor laws while serving to
strategically juxtapose the violation of women s rights and the infringement faced... Show more

Why: In the first rhetorical analysis timed write, I struggled to identify which rhetorical strategies
were used along with their connection to the theme of each article. In the sentence above, my
writing successfully identifies both the purpose and theme in a concise manner.
Revision: She implements anaphora along with asyndeton in the phrase men increase, women
increase, youth increase.. they are in commerce, in office, in manufacturing. Through her use of
literary devices, Kelley is able to identify the overarching issue of women s suffrage while
enlightening her audience as she expresses that once women are seen as strong, competent
individuals, then, and only then, will there be a respect for the American youth.
Reflection: In the following sentence, I am able to expand upon a major topic of discussion for
Women s Rights Activist Florence Kelley. It is difficult at first to identify the purpose behind the
rhetorical strategies used by the speaker, but upon further examination it is apparent how Kelley s
diction comprehensively contributes to the integrity of her argument as a

The History Of Modern Corporate Collection
In the 1988, one year after Black Monday when Don Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 23
percent in a single day, Art Auction the international art market journal published its annual
edition with the troubling headline: Is Corporate Collecting Dead? . Almost 20 years later, the
financial crisis made hundreds of bankers lose their jobs, and the image of people moving out
their offices can still be recalled even today, and the same question aroused again. The same
questions may appear again and again in the future, but as an essential part of world of art
collecting, corporate collecting won t die in the eyes of most people in the field.
The brief history of modern corporate collection
It is hard to chase back to the origin of the art patronage, since it is nearly as old as art itself, but
the shift from a model dating from the Renaissance, in which leaders of industry used the fruits
of their labor to purchase or commission superlative art either for their private residences or for
the benefit of the public (or of God and the Church), is surprisingly recent. So it s essential to
isolate modern corporate collecting from other great but older tradition such as hanging decorative
pieces and portraits of founders and other core members to embellish a boardroom or showcase the
firm s position or reputation.
Modern corporate collecting began in nineteenth century in the United States as a movement to
preserve the records, memorabilia, and products of a company.

Nerdy Starcat Research Paper
The Nerdy Starcat lives in the deepest part of the ocean which is the ocean floor. Its habitat has
to be very dark, gloomy and cold. When the temperatures are cold, it has the ability to use its
thick skin to keep itself warm. However, if the temperatures are hot, the Nerdy Starcat will
overheat due to so much fur on its body. Because of this, the Nerdy Starcat swims around the ocean
floor to create its homes. Being very picky and cautious about homes and environments, the Nerdy
Starcat builds its home behind the coral reefs. And the shape of its home is a banana. Due to such a
unique style and architecture of a home, fish swimming around it get attracted. The fish then swim
towards the banana and get eaten by the Nerdy Starcat. Having this

Gandhi Obstacles
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a historic leader of Indian nationalism, was one of the greatest
national leaders of the twentieth century. Rosenberg (2012) stated Gandhi was born in Porbandar,
India, on October 2, 1869 (Biography of Mahatma Gandhi). His family came from the traditional
caste of grocers and moneylenders (the name Gandhi means grocer ). His father was the dewan
(chief minister) of Porbandar, and his mother was an adherent of a religion in which ideas of
nonviolenceand vegetarianism were paramount. Gandhi expressed that she had a big influence on
him, cataloging her life as an endless chain of fasts and vows. According to Rosenberg (2014) As a
child, Gandhi secretly smoked, ate meat, told multiple lies and wore western clothing... Show more

The use of only non violent methods in the pursuit of justice is not as simple as it sounds.
Gandhi s basic challenge, first of all was to himself, to exercise strong self discipline. He did it in
many ways. He dressed very simply, and shaved his head. He did not attend any concerts or the
theatre. Each week for one whole day he would refrain from speaking. He also did physical work
a couple of hours every day. His more serious challenges began when he was set to work in South
Africa, where he was discriminated against for being an Indian immigrant. For example, Gandhi
was on a trip where he was seated in the first class compartment, as he had purchased a first class
ticket. According to Bisht (2010): A White person who entered the compartment was upset that
Gandhi was in first class and immediately summoned the White railway officials. They ordered
Gandhi to remove himself and go to the van compartment, since coolies (a racist term for
Indians) and non whites were not permitted in first class compartments. Gandhi protested and
produced his ticket, but was warned that he would be forcibly removed if he did not make a
gracious exit. As Gandhi refused to comply with the order, a White police officer pushed him out
of the train, and his luggage was tossed out onto the platform. During his train journey he had to
endure beatings and mistreatment from whites for his refusal to comply with their unfair orders
(Mahatma Gandhi s Freedom Struggle and the Railways). He overcame racism by not letting it
break him or his drive, but more obstacles were to appear in his

ARGUMENT
I.THE COURT SHOULD AFFIRM THE LOWER COURTS DECISION BECAUSE THE POLICE
OFFICERS WERE GIVEN CONSENT BY A CO TENANT WHO HELD COMMON
AUTHORITY OVER THE APARTEMENT.
In March 2016, the petitioner alleges that the search of his dwelling authorized by his mother, who
was his roommate at the time, was conducted unreasonably under the Fourth Amendment. (R 2,14.)
Searches that are conducted exclusive of a warrant are considered unreasonable, subject only to a
few specifically established exceptions. Schneckloth v. Bustamonte, 412 U.S. 218, 219 (1973). One
of the exceptions is voluntary consent, either from the individual who owns the property or from a

Tony Montana Quotes
B.Scarface
Tony Montana is a very vulgar person, able to drop any manner of language that can offend a
person. Arrogant, violent and very frank, assuring to Sosa that the only thing he has in this
world is his word and his balls . Tony is the survivor that has no qualms on killing other people if
it can guarantee money and food. His ruthlessness will eventually land him a position in Frank
Lopez s drug cartel and will steadily make a name in the Miami underworld. He also developed a
liking to Frank s mistress, Elvira. With his excessive push to expand, he eventually gunned down
Frank and took Elvira, and started building his own empire. Living in a lavish lifestyle, he would

She is addicted to coke and would happily tag along with anybody with the money to support her
needs. She was Frank s mistress only for the drugs, and the same for Tony. She is a very snob
character, and seems to embody the ice queen trope, though defrosting her will not do anything,
she is just cold to strangers. It is not known if she has any inner desire to make peace with her
habits, as she evidently sad at the life she is leading.
C.Comparison
The film has a notable distinction in its characters. The Godfather has the honor of having a more
refined set of characters in regards of execution and the distribution of traits, in comparison.
Scarface has characters that are spread thin, with the few having the most concentration of traits.
Tony, Manny, Gina, Elvira and Sosa are the only notable characters that have concentrated traits.
Michael and Tony s personalities are polar opposites. Michael is a law abiding citizen, aspiring
to live a normal life with his girlfriend, Kay. He was only dragged into family affairs after the
attempted hit on his father, Vito. He still strives to be normal even when he is now a criminal
yet the sequels suggest he failed. Tony is readily a criminal, since his background is easily
identified. He was keen on living the American Dream in any way possible. He dealt with drugs,
killed people and started to use his own products. A wise criminal once said that it was bad to use

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Four Freedoms Speech Convincing an audience of 133.4 million is a daunting task, especially when they must be convinced to join a war less than thirty years after World War I. On January 6, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave the State of the Union Address that began his third term as president. This speech, broadcast across the United Stateson the radio, sparked the idea to join World War II even before Pearl Harbor was attacked. In this speech, he fully supports the English against the attack of the dictators trying to extinguish democracy across the world. He proposes the four freedomsthat America is invested in protecting around the world: freedom of speech and expression, freedom to worship God in any way, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. In his speech, The Four Freedoms, Franklin Delano Roosevelt inspires nationalism and creates fear in his audience to convince them to join the war ravaging through Europe through many forms of metaphor and repetition. Throughout his speech, Roosevelt uses themes of nationalism through his diction, repetition, and metaphor. The first example of this is in the first ten paragraphs where he compares the situation in America to their history. He makes the current situation seem very extreme and urgent which calls the citizens to act against this new threat. Throughout this, he addresses the audience as We clearly making them feel American. Roosevelt also used a metaphor about an eagle having its wings clipped. In this, America is represented by the eagle while the bird stealing its feathers is meant to portray the dictators in Europe. This creates nationalism because the eagle, normally the strongest bird and a common symbol of the United States, is being stolen from, and there was nothing done to stop it. He also uses forms of repetition to inspire the people to support the country. In the thirteenth paragraph, Roosevelt uses a polysyndeton by repeating the word or to emphasize the American ideals that peace with the Germans would not bring to the world. He does this because in 1941, most of continental Europe had fallen to the Germans and if Germany were to win this war, those countries were likely to never become democratic again. He uses the nationalism convince ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Juvenelian Satire in A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift... Effectively ushering change in society or pointing out faults that have existed and gone unnoticed can be a daunting task for any social commentator. Often, blandly protesting grievances or concerns can fall upon deaf ears and change can be slow or non existent. However, Jonathan Swift in his pamphlet A Modest Proposal, uses clever, targeted, and ironic criticism to bring the social state of Ireland to the attention of indolent aristocrats. He accomplishes such criticism through satire, specifically Juvenalian satire. Swift s A Modest Proposal stands as an example of the type of satire that plays upon the audience s emotion by creating anger concerning the indifference of the voice created. He complements such criticism with sophisticated,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fact arouses anger, in that the audience realizes the proposer seems indifferent to the fact that he is proposing to murder thousands of children. Contrastingly, such morally unconventional solutions would not exist in a calmer, straight forward Horatian satire. Yet, even in evaluating how anger is emotionally imposed on the audience due to the absurdity of the proposal, it s impossible to disregard the role of humor. There are obvious elements of humor throughout the proposal and amusement in the very nature of the proposal is expected. However, any sense of humor abruptly disappears at the heart of the critism. When the proposer begins stating I can think of no one objection that will possibly be raised against this proposal the humor stops and the voice of Swift, as well as sharp criticism, begins. Although humor may be an integral part of the proposal and certainly a partial indication of the use of Horatian satire, the fact that humor isn t present throughout the whole proposal suggests that the use of hilarity is secondary. Rather, this contrast of humor and emotionally imposed irritation only helps to emphasize the role of anger. This is especially evident when one considers the irony that litters the humorous proposal. Swift s development of the absurd proposal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Tommy Hilfiger Vs. Able Time, Inc. The first issue in this case is that Able Time Inc. bore the mark TOMMY on a product that Tommy Hilfiger already offers, that product being, watches. In this case The Copyright Act needed to take place because according to the text, this act gives the copyright holder the exclusive right to distribute copies of the copyrighted work. I believe that this case is only unlawful if there was no agreement between Able Time Inc. and Tommy Hilfiger. For example, if Tommy Hilfiger proposed a Nontariff Barrier towards Able Time Inc. which consists of a wide range of restrictions that prevent the free movement of goods between countries, then yes this case is unlawful because Able Time Inc. would have went against antitrust laws. This case also mentions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Flaw Wang Analysis In the story, Flaw, Wang delivers a very light hearted text to read. But, in this text Wang connects a lot of the story together with details of the weather that help us connect the events. Wang uses the weather to describe how the narrator feels about the problems, while also displaying the narrators growth throughout the story. For example, the narrator opens up each problem or event that occurs with the description of that moments weatherand season. Although the events occur on separate days in different seasons the problems occur always on a sunny, hot day. It seems like the hotter the weather is the bigger the problem may be and the more emotional and grown the narrator will become. Wang starts off the pattern by incorporating in details of the weather, ...night passed and day broke. In the early morning mist, the owners of the small grocery stores, still unlike their counterparts in the city,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On this summer day we find out that the dressmaking shop owner stole a hundred and fifty thousand dollars from clients, workers, and friends, and ran off. Here the weather is used to describe how he feels. The white hot sunshine is used to portray the anger and heat he feels for the woman in the following scene when the narrator finds out the lady stole the money. This goes on with the narrator going off to the roof where the sky above was a soft quiet blue (27), thinking about the impact the women created on him, his family, and community. The soft quiet blue here is used to describe his emotions as his anguish dematerializes and his emotions clear up to reveal the sorrow he now feels towards the woman. The narrator then uses the mist and clouds to describe the sadness he displayed that night when he realizes that he had been deluded, The scene in front of me got misty, and I discovered that my eyes were filled with tears ... • 6. Lady Macbeth Is Evil We all have regrets. Sometimes, there is a certain someone that lead us to this bad decision. In William Shakespeare s, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, wife of noble warrior Macbeth, has indirectly influenced nearly every cruel decision made thus far in the story. Whether it is killing a beloved king, or framing an innocent person for the bloody crime, Lady Macbethis behind everything. Lady Macbethis a ruthless and manipulative woman because she pressures her loved ones to commit horrible crimes, betrays those who have been nothing but kind to her, and does not care who she ruins, as long as she reaches her goal. Lady Macbeth is a monster because she practically forced spouse, a man she is supposed to love, to killone of his friends and idols.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along killing a generous man and forcing her husband to commit a violent crime, she is also willing to ruin the lives of countless other innocent people. Throughout the entire assassination plot she wanted to pin the murder on two guards. First, she got both guards so drunk that they would pass out and Macbeth would be able to slip into Duncan s room without being noticed. Then, she stole their daggers so they could be used as the murder weapon. Finally, she wanted to wipe Duncan s blood on the guards and ends up killing them. When Macbeth returns from Duncan s chamber with the two bloody daggers, Lady Macbeth says, Infirm of purpose! Give me the daggers. The sleeping and the dead are but as pictures. Tis the eye of childhood that fears a painted devil. If he do bleed, I ll gild the faces of the grooms withal, for it must seem their guilt (2.2.68 73). This quote depicts Lady Macbeth as being cruel and insensitive. She is going to cover the faces of the unconscious guards with Duncan s blood, which will make them look very guilty. Lady Macbeth is also more than willing to kill innocent people just for Duncan s position of power. After she left MAcbeth to go frame the two guards, she ended up killing them, making Macbeth tell Malcolm that he killed the two guards after seeing Duncan s dead corpse. After finding Duncan s ... • 7. How the Western Film Genre Has Developed over the Past... The Western film genre is typically set in a secluded village in the middle of the desert, normally in the American West. The setting includes wooden buildings, tumble weed, cacti, trains, horses and carriages. The storyline for western films is usually the same, namely, a hero travels to a remote village, usually on a horse, and brings peace to the warring villagers. In a traditional Western film the clothing for the hero is usually a white hat, (this is to show purity). The hero would also wear a brightly coloured shirt , a pair of jeans and cowboy boots with spurs on the back of them. The hero is also very clean and also normally tall and good looking. A traditional Western includes things like white settlers living in a town... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first film that showed early signs of a rise in the quality of technology was the Western The Great Train Robbery. When this film first came out the audience were so amazed at the fact that they could watch something on a TV or at the cinema. Although this film was very good for the 1900s it still lacked some key features that make films much easier to understand such as dialogue, sound and camera shots. The one feature of a film that developed the quickest over the period of time was sound. Sound was introduced in October 1927 in the film The Jazz singer , which had three song numbers and a few lines of spoken dialogue. Apart from these few songs and words, the rest of the movie was silent, but the audience still thought that it was amazing that words had been spoken in the film, they used to call it the movie that talked . The Western became one of the most popular film genres between the 1930s and the 1950s because of theses advances in technology. The development of smaller, lighter cameras freed the cameras from a tripod allowing more detailed camera work. To show moving effects cameras could be put on platforms that were attached to rubber wheels or steel rails like railroad tracks. The cameras could also be raised and lowered on cranes. Another thing that made Westerns more popular was the introduction of full colour in the 1930s and widescreen in the 1950s, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Typography Analysis Paper Jonathan Morales ENC1101 Professor Lehn 7/14/2015 Analyzing typography Text and typography although often confused are not the same thing. By definition, text is The actual wording of anything written or printed. This can also be thought of as the sequence of letters or words made into existence. Take the text She s broken for example. No matter how you say the text or read the text or hear the text, it ll always be the same; She s broken . But when this text is displayed either digitally or physical on a paper, typography comes into play. Font may be the first thing to come to mind, but the font is merely a small part of typography. Color, size, kerning, leading, and weight are just a few of the many key components to typography. As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as in print, typography can be found anywhere there s text being shown such as in titles, credits, and any overlays. This is the more common form in which it is found. But a new use to typography is being introduced in the form of a video. And it s being used for music videos, educational videos, and even sport commentaries. The most common use of these come from music videos or often referred to as lyrical music videos . One great example is a lyrical video of Swedish House Mafia s song Don t you worry child made by Felippe Silveira. In his video he uses lines and dots from existing words on the screen and manipulates them to form other words. For example, in the beginning of the video he uses a dot from the logo of the artists and stretches it out across the screen to form a line. Out of that line then grows the words There was a and the word Time comes from underneath the line but also uses the line for the top part of the T in time. The words then condense back into the line and the line rotates 90 degrees. Being a vertical line going across the screen, it shrinks and turns into an i. Then it turns into a T forming the word to . A few words later he uses the Y from the word eyes and drops the leg of the Y down to the bottom of the screen and forms an i to make the word in . Throughout the video he continues to manipulate letters and create symmetrical eye pleasing shapes with the words making sure there is alignment and some sense of containment so that the sentences are perfectly even. A more complex approach is the more popular video by Weird Al Yankovic called Word Crimes . In his video he uses other visual aids to really make his video unique. For example in the beginning he talk about not knowing how to conjugate and failing a test. He uses the background of a desk and a piece of a paper on top and the lyrics appear as part of the test. When he refers to failing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Questions On The Energy Infrastructure Final Examination Question 1 The Energy infrastructure is comprised of three different segments, electricity, oil and gas; all of which come together to provide resources to other critical Infrastructures such as the transportation, communications, IT, finance and other infrastructures depending on them to function (DHS, 2016). In the U.S., we rely so much on the energy infrastructure because it helps us function and survive. We spend billions of dollars a year in energy consumption. Without energy resources, millions of people could get hurt, some die and the economy would be negatively affected. Our homes, offices and businesses would be left without light, a.c. and gas. Our transportation system would be crippled, and communications would be almost impossible. In order to acquire energy products, they have to be explored, refined and transported. What that means is; Exploration: This is the initial starting point of energy development. In this sector, oil locations are found; drills and pipelines are used to absorb these resources which are then converted to other forms of energy resources such as petroleum, gas, electricity, jet fuel and much more. Most of these exploration locations are found in remote areas; areas like the Middle East, Mexico, and Africa, areas hard to get to, in the middle of the sea or where no one would go. The good thing about exploration is it makes it possible to find new locations and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The And New England Colonies Everyone has an external force that motivates them in some way that allows them to be able to go about their everyday lives and fulfill their ambitions. Within the years of 1580 and 1763 this force took the form of God. Around this same time was when the Chesapeake and New England colonies were in the process of being founded. As a result, these two settlements did nothing without referencing their actions to God. Due to this heavy focus on God as the reason behind every aspect of their lives, chaos began to sprout soon after the settlers began settling and started living their new lives in the colonies. Since the colonist believed that God dictated their entire lives; they never felt that they were in the wrong. Not once did the colonists stop to think that they had no right to steal the natives land. If God had not smitten them, then they thought that God approved of what they were doing. In this case, the colonists were in the process of acquiring land that the earth bringeth foorth all things in aboundance, as in the first creation, without toile or labour... the most plentifull, sweete, fruitfull, and wholesome [soil] of all the world . The new land that the colonists wanted to take appeared similar to the Garden of Eden. Since they successfully made their voyage to the new land, it looked as if God allowed them to enter a land similar to one of his own. If God gave the colonists access to the land, then wouldn t that mean that the colonists were entitled to the land ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Essay on The Moor in the Works of William Shakespeare The Sources and Representations of the Moor in the Works of Shakespeare One theme consistently reemployed throughout Shakespeare s plays is that of the Other. The Other is usually characterized as a character that is somehow separated, stigmatized, or noted as being different from the mainstream ideal. For the Elizabethan England of Shakespeare s time, it may have been a self defensive maneuver against the encroachment of something which threatened too close to home (Bartels 450). Bryant lists several methods used to employ this convention of the Other: race such as that of Shylock and Aaron, nationality as in Iachimo, bastardy such as the characters Don John and Edmund, social status such as that belonging to Iago, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether the term Moor had a definition of white or black, of pagan or Muslim religion, or area of origin seems to be interchangeable when one notes the differences between Shakespeare s four characters. Sources of the Elizabethan image of the Moor most likely came from sources such as classical descriptions, actual encounters, travel narratives, and literary conventions (Bartels 433). Why is the Moor prevalent during Shakespeare s time? What was the importance of or the sources for this new Other in English literature? Shakespeare uses the Moor as being characterized in several ways and used for varied dramatic purposes. In order to have a full understanding of the Moorish character in Shakespeare s works, one must look to history s relations and depictions of the Moor and how it influenced Shakespeare. Moors were characterized in Elizabethan England as being alternately or even simultaneously noble or monstrous, civil or savage. Being a different race meant, primarily, being an Other, non English, as well as non Christian (Braxton 8). The term Moor, as I have noted before, was fairly vague in definition. Bartels points out that in common usage, the word was used many times interchangeably with similarly ambiguous terms as African, Ethiopian, Negro, and even Indian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BBC, standing for the British Broadcast Channel, has produced an abundant amount of nominated television shows from Merlin to Downtown Abbey. However, BBC is well known for capturing the hearts of teenage and middle age individuals from their nominated television shows called Sherlock and Doctor Who. Airing on BBC America since the 1960s, Doctor Who is the longest running television show on BBC America. On the other hand, from Arthur Conan Doyles The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, comes a contemporary twist in the story and characters of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson. By looking at the outer portions of the shows, one can view them as polar opposites. However, both the British television shows share exceedingly similar qualities in their plot and characteristics of the main leads and their companions in the show. Sharing similar characteristics in the roles that they play, Sherlock Homes form Sherlock and The Doctor from Doctor Who are both intelligent lonely men who fancy a sense of adventure. Beowulf The treasure had been won, bought and paid for by Beowulf s death. Both had reached the end of the road, through the life they had been lent (2842 2845). The Dream of the Rood and Beowulf both have similarities that show a heroic image for the main character in the stories. These two passages both show how the heroic character in the end of their stories received a glorious ending to their lives. For example, in The Dream of the Rood the particular line, a company of souls to the Kingdom of God is describing how the Rood reached the ultimate afterlife with God after everything the Rood has been through. To these people everything the Rood went through and stood for was a heroic image for them to see the Rood not fall before the man. In other words integrity is a person s word and how they ensure no matter what they always stick by their word regardless of the situation and always be honest not only with people around them, but to themselves as well. This allows individuals around to trust and believe in you and realize you can be relied upon in any situation. I do not agree how Malcolm in the Middle portrays integritynot only within a family, but as individuals. In the episode Water Parks Hal and Lois continually made jokes in regards to their son Dewey and how there is not a babysitter in their town that will babysit him due to his disruptive behavior. Hal and Lois appeared to pick up the phone and open the yellow pages trying to find anyone that would take on the responsibility of watching Dewey, without thinking of Dewey s well being or what type of person they hired to babysit him. I for one would not allow my children to run free at a waterpark, unless they were able to prove to me they were responsible enough. Point in case, Malcolm was afraid to ride the monster water slide and he did not have the support of either parent to help him with the fear. Psychology has always had a deep impact on literature, so much that authors must use this theory to delve into their characters motivations and actions. It is evident through the three Freud essays discussed that topics and ideas seem to overlap. This is the nature of studying psychology; concepts and ideas are connected to create a network that can be studied applied to not only the human mind, but to the mind of an author or their fictional characters. In applying Sigmund Freud s ideas to literature, critics can examine characters as if they were real. In our world, these characters are not real. In the context of a work of fiction, for example, the characters are real. The confines of a novel is the space in which they are alive. He has asked me to tell you how happy you have made him by becoming his wife, something that I am sure he will go into in more detail in his speech, but still, thank you. When Danny asked me to be his best man, part of me was honored, part of me was terrified, but mostly I was laughing that he s finally admitting what we ve known all along, that I am, in fact, better than him. As with any industry that has lasted that length of time, Hollywood has gone through a few changes to deal with the changes in technology and culture. One of the more significant changes that Hollywood has faced since the advent of sound in films, was the fall of its Golden Era. There were a combination of reasons the industry went through dramatic changes in the late 1950s to mid 1960s. The Paramount decree and other government imposed limitation on power of the studios, change in audience demographic, and a strict code system limiting the types of stories that could be told through the medium of filmall contributed to a shift in the industry and the type of product that Hollywood would... The article Muscular contributions to hip and knee extension during the single limb stance phase of normal gait: a Theoretical Framework for Crouch Gait by Allison Arnold, Frank Anderson, Marcus Pandy, and Scott Delp investigates the biomechanics of normal gait in hopes to uncover ideas to help determine treatments for crouch gait. Crouch gait is a bothersome abnormality that affects the gait pattern of people who suffer from the condition of cerebral palsy. It s characterized by excessive flexionof the hips and knees during standing and excessive use of metabolic energy to complete a single gait cycle. Currently, the treatments for this condition are limited and have unpredictable outcomes due to the unknown biomechanical causes of the excessive flexion in crouch gait. These treatments include surgical lengthening of hamstrings, ankle foot orthoses, and intense stretching regimens, with patients experiencing results ranging from no improvement in their symptoms to dramatic improvements. The vast array of results from treatments are due to the little understanding medical professionals have of not only abnormal gait patterns (such as crouch gait) but of normal gait as well (Arnold, Anderson, Pandy, and Delp, 2005). • 33. Suffering In Cormac Mccarthy s Blood Meridian There is a horde of explanations pertaining to the epilogue of Blood Meridian. The short passage has sparked ideas of the idealistic human nature of suffering, the search for enlightenment through Gnosticism, and the subtle persuasion that lies beneath eloquent language, both in Judge Holden s claims and Cormac McCarthys narration. It is important, before delving into these ideas, that the passage is recounted. In the dawn there is a man progressing over the plain by means of holes that he is making in the ground. On the plain behind him are the wanderers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He has no desire to alleviate human suffering, or to intervene in humanity s slow self destruction; he only watches. McCarthy uses these ideas as a platform for the bizarre atmosphere of the West, calling into question why a creator in favor of humanity would create a place so desolate and violent. The man in the epilogue is described as striking the fire out of the rock which God has put there, suggesting that he is a pneumatic (Someone who understands the true state of the cosmos and the nature of the nameless Alien God ) who frees the sparks of the divine fire trapped in matter or rock by the God of this world, the demiurge. Within the context of Gnosticism, the steel of the man s tool causes sparks as he digs; each hole dispersing these sparks into the cosmos and restoring unity to the Alien God. This difficult process is one of salvation, and the pneumatics task is a long and ongoing one, as each spark that dies without escaping to the alien God is thrown back into its realm, and thus they all move on again like clockwork, presumably until the last bit of fire has been freed from the rocks. In this framework, those who have not attained spiritual enlightenment follow the man and the holes he s making. Those who search for bones are followers of religions that claim that all will be revealed in the afterlife. Christian missionaries originally introduced cricket to the islands as a sport to discourage war among the populace. The sport has been extensively modified by the Trobriand society through increasing the amount of players, dancing, chanting, and adjusted bats and balls. As the game of cricket substituted war among the people of the island when war was forbidden, it has incorporated most of the older traditions linked with war for the Trobriand nation. The sport also reflects the objective of pride instead of ceremonial tradition, which was introduced to islands by their British conqueror and the American soldier during World War II. The Trobrianders of Papua New Guinea were usually horticulturists who demonstrated and achieved prestige and manhood throughout contest. These rivalries included the ability to plant yams, the skill of making good trades and acquiring valuables, and maintaining the strength of a fighter. Conversely, when Europeans missionaries occupied the island, the Trobrianders were required to give up their tradition of warfare. Almost 20 years later, the financial crisis made hundreds of bankers lose their jobs, and the image of people moving out their offices can still be recalled even today, and the same question aroused again. The same questions may appear again and again in the future, but as an essential part of world of art collecting, corporate collecting won t die in the eyes of most people in the field. The brief history of modern corporate collection It is hard to chase back to the origin of the art patronage, since it is nearly as old as art itself, but the shift from a model dating from the Renaissance, in which leaders of industry used the fruits of their labor to purchase or commission superlative art either for their private residences or for the benefit of the public (or of God and the Church), is surprisingly recent. So it s essential to isolate modern corporate collecting from other great but older tradition such as hanging decorative pieces and portraits of founders and other core members to embellish a boardroom or showcase the firm s position or reputation. He also did physical work a couple of hours every day. His more serious challenges began when he was set to work in South Africa, where he was discriminated against for being an Indian immigrant.
