2. The Truth About the Music Industry Essay
Music is universally known as an expression of emotion, rebellion against the man, a
way of life, a random collection of sounds, an annoying thing kids listen to, or even
a vacation from everything, but in reality music is free of all definition. The industry
involved in buying, selling and recording of music has grown so old, treacherous, and
ignorant that it can not figure out the steps it needs to evolve with the rapidly
expanding music industry. Musicians and fans alike are screaming about the dire need
of some modern day innovation in the market. Sadly the monstrous corporations that
dominate the market have put a lid on the competitive edge, stopped the innovative
changes any smaller companies can make.
There are only three major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a band we have done some research of studio time and what it costs to have a
record published and sold in stores. I understand that music is hard to make a
living off of because its hard enough to just pay for the things your band needs and
that record labels lose a lot of money in trying to finance an album that has such a
high chance of failure. But major Record labels are creating a monopoly of the music
industry which limits the innovation and advancement other minor labels or
musicians could provide by taking away competition. The market is dominated by the
Big Three (Sony, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group) who
continuously buy out competition and all have many smaller companies who
have front names to cover up the fact that they are owned by the larger corporation.
Ten years ago there were five major companies that controlled the market place, in
the beginning of 2005 Sony and BMG, Bertelsmann Music Group, decided to form
a 50/50 partnership that would spread worldwide. Together they controlled a vast
majority of American music and the only place in the world that was not apart of
this corporation was Japan because the business would be affected too much. Then
in 2008 BMG announced that they were not going to renew the contract because
of falling sales which would have been really bad for Sony financially, so they
decided to buy BM s portion of the company for 1.2 billion, which included all of
BMG s record
3. Robert Lowell Poetry
Robert Lowell is commonly regarded as a highly influential American writer
during the 20th century. From our discussions in class, we know that Robert
Lowell was born into a wealthy Massachusetts family that could trace its roots back
to the original settlers from the Mayflower, and included many famous and
influential historical figures. Because of his family s wealth, it may have seemed
on the surface that Robert Lowell had a perfect life, and was free to pursue all his
options. However, his poetry gives us an insight into his life as a child and the
wrecked relationship between himself and his parents. As we have discussed
several times in class, Lowell s parents were largely absent both physically and
emotionally and did not give him the attention he needed as a child. This resulted
in a youth characterized by rebelling against his parents wishes in a cry for help
and attention. Robert Lowell also discusses in detail the relationship he had with
his grandfather, and the comfort and security that he was able to feel whenever he
was with his grandfather. Through several poems, such as My Last Afternoon With
Uncle Devereux Wilson , we can see that being in the presence of his grandfather
allowed him to be released from his parents and feel welcome and loved. Growing
up in Boston also had a significant impact on his poetry, as most of his poems take
place somewhere in New England and focus on his experiences with the people and
famous landmarks throughout New England.
4. Should Animal Testing Be Used Only For Medical Research
Should animal testing be used only for medical purposes in New Zealand?
By Jihad Mohd Erfino
Introduction:
Animal testing is one of the most controversial scientific issues debated around the
world. It questions the right of wild animals to be used in commercial, cosmetics and
even for medical research purposes. Although it happens in most of the world
(including New Zealand) today, many question whether it should go on. Animal
testing is generally the use of animals for different purposes in lab conditions.
Brief history of animal testing and achievements: Animal testing has existed since
the 2nd century BCE through the work of Greek scientist Aristotle (Animal testing
Wikipedia). He was the first one to have made experiments on live animals. The
first animal testing experiments was to find out how our bodies work. For
example, the discovery of blood circulation in mammals was discovered in the 12th
century by Arabic scientist Ibn Al Nafis and this was refined later in the 17th
century by William Harvey. Animal testing has also played a vital role in human
medical advances. It has helped developed vaccines to cure diseases such as polio
which has almost been eradicated. It has also have helped humans to have a better
understanding of our bodily mechanisms, function and several diseases. Some
diseases that cannot be cured yet can be treated better due to animal testing
discoveries.

5. Comparing The Trial And Death Of Socrates
Plato s The Trial and Death of Socrates presents the reader with complex competing
conceptions of what should be considered the good life . According to Socrates, the
most important thing is not life, but the good life (Crito, 48b). The majority, who
live a non philosophical life, believes the goods of life include wealth, reputation, and
honor: all things that can easily be taken away or destroyed. On the other hand,
Socrateslives a philosophical life filled with self sufficiency. He views wisdom, truth,
and the best possible state of one s soul as the goods of life. The plot in The Trial
and Death of Socrates arises as Socrates challenges the minds of those around him.
After being accused of corrupting the young and of not believing in the gods in
whom the city believes, but in other new spiritual things , Socrates faces the death
penalty (Apology, 24b c). The challenge the reader faces within The Trial and
Death of Socrates stands as deciding rather the philosophical or non philosophical
life serves as the flourishing life. In The Trial and Death of Socrates, the majority
serves as the embodiment of the non philosophical life. A flourishing life, according
to the majority, revolves around the eagerness to possess as much wealth, reputation,
and honors as possible (Apology, 29e). Each of these attributes are known to bring
individuals greater freedom within society. With greater freedom comes greater
opportunity, hence a greater life, thereby making these goods

7. Second Life School Research Paper
Second Life School
Today s schools are mired with problems that are preventing students from receiving
the best education possible. Instead of staying the current course, an investment in
building schools inside of the virtual world of Second Life for students to attend
online would be the best way for students to receive an education. A school hosted on
Second Life would mean less money focused on the physical content of a school
without sacrificing the social aspect of one.
Educational Equality Schools today do not provide an equal opportunity for all
students. In the United States there has been a long history of discrimination on
both the social and economic level against its students. Prior to desegregation,
schools meant for non White children were poorly ran. In one case in 1931, the
Lemon Grove School District forced 75 Mexican American children to attend a barn
instead of an actual school(Johnson Joshee, 2007). Despite changes in legislation
over the years, there s still a divide in quality of schooling between classes. One

average that students using only online or in person instructions(Angiello, 2010).
Second Life would provide a level of online learning without sacrificing the social
experience of a traditional classroom through the use of avatars in a virtual reality
school environment(Bates Brkljac 2012). For example, a school could create
environments for a virtual class trip such as the surface of the Moon that would be

8. Hydrogen As An Alternative Source Of Energy
Khaled AlGhunaim NASC 130 Professor Gartner November 16, 2015 Hydrogen
As An Alternative Source Of Energy The contemporary industrial sector has been
built on the capacity created by energy. The bulk of human activities from survival
to economy rely on the use of energy. Indeed, widespread access to energy has a
significant influence on the level of achievement a particular jurisdiction achieves
(Johnstone, Mayo and Khare 572). Access to energy sources determines the quality
and course of life undertaken by the residents of a specific region. Numerous
factors interact to determine the supply of energy. Among them include the cost,
quantities available and the extent of availability. The fact that fossil fuel is the
primary source of energy means that distribution is uneven. It should be noted that
oil, coal, and natural gas account for three quarters of the global energy
consumption. Indeed, it is estimated that traditional forms of energy such as wood
and animal dung form the primary source of energy for close to two billion people
across the globe. The realities raised by the use of fossil fuels create an incentive to
explore alternative forms of energy sources. The use of hydrogen as an alternative
source of energy provides several new advantages to the world in terms of abundance,
pollution, and its future importance to the business world along with everyday use to
the people. The abundant nature of Hydrogen s existence and simplicity in structure
make the compound an

Wallace s line, located in the Malay Archipelago, is one of the best known and most
studied boundaries of zoogeography in the world. It is a transition zone between the
islands of Borneo and Sulawesi and the islands of Bali and Lombork, which marks
both the convergence and division of the diverse flora and fauna found in the Asian
(Borneo, The Philippines, and Western Indonesia), and the Australianregions
(Sulawesi, Eastern Indonesia, Australia, and New Guinea) (Schulte 2003). The
hypothetical line was first proposed by Alfred Russel Wallace in 1858 after
observing many morphological differences of various bird species in the Asian and
Australian regions (Raven 1935). In the past, to confirm the ... Show more content on

Around 140 million years ago India separated from the still connected South America
African and Antarctica Australian landmasses and drifted northward until it collided
with Eurasia (Europe and Asia). This collision created a continental block which
caused a separation of the Antarctica Australia landmass and caused the individual
landmasses to shift in opposite directions (Whitmore 1981). This separation formed
an underwater ocean ridge, which caused Australia to drift northwestward. Around 15
million years ago, Australia converged with Asia, uniting the diverse flora and fauna
of both regions (Schulte 2003; Whitmore 1981). It was then the continuous separation
of these two landmasses that has dynamically shaped the present day distribution of
unique ecosystems and species found on the Asian and Australian continents, as well
as on the islands in the Malay Archipelago.
When Wallace drew his hypothetical line to define the boundary between Asian and
Australian zoology, he had an incomplete understanding of continental drift and plate
tectonics. He only used morphological observations of cockatoos found on Lombork
and Bali, and of parrots found on Borneo and Sulawesi, to support the placement of
his line
10. Anxiety In Sports Essay
в—ЏWhat are three ways to recognize anxiety in athletes? There are three
fundamental ways to recognize anxiety in an athlete behavioral and physiological
symptoms, and testing. The first two require the coach and athlete to have a sound
and trustworthy relationship with connection and the ability freely communicate and
expose their vulnerabilities. Testing requires the involvement of a sportpsychologist
or consultant to administer the Sport Competition AnxietyTest (SCAT), for examples,
to assess individual differences in the perception of competitive situations. Such as
test can identify the anxious athlete and further define the type of anxiety
(Vernacchia, McGuire, Cook, 1996). There are other tests that can identify both trait
(general predisposition to respond across many situations with anxiety) or state
anxiety (more specific and fluctuates from moment to moment proportionately to the
perceived threat of the situation) (Hanton, Mellalieu, Williams, 2013).... Show more

breathing at a rapid rate in order to transport as much oxygen to the working

patient once described Diana as, the friend who always left us smiling (Wood 31).
Her sons, William and Harry, do a lot to follow in their mothers footsteps and they
instill good through the sick and needy every day. Even William s wife, Catherine
Middleton, feels the pressures of the media and everyone that was close to Diana.
Catherine feels the need to fulfill her shoes because she sees her mother in law as a

glamorous lifestyle, meeting new and exciting people everywhere she went. She had
the chance to become very good friends with Mother Teresa and Elton John. She also

through her family and the people that knew her well. Many organizations, buildings
and people have been named after her such as, her granddaughter Princess Charlotte

14. Examples Of Brainwashing In Brave New World
Brainwashing in Brave New World Throughout Aldous Huxley s dystopian novel,
Brave New World, the reader is thrust to the forefront of a society merely based on
consumerism, class loyalty, and conventional principles. The motif of brainwashing
is used in an effort to abolish individualism throughout Huxley s novel. He does so
by eloquently mirroring the beliefs of the totalitarian governments of the past by
establishing a government that brainwashes its own citizens to conform to their
beliefs. The World State uses hypnopedia as a tool to accomplish this goal of
conformity. They teach young children, their principles to reduce the probability of
an uprising against the tyrannical power. Conditioning, conformity, and propaganda
are the instruments put in use by the world controllers to instill desired
characteristics into the populace of London, England from their hatching to their
death. Hypnopedia is used to instill consumerism, class loyalty, and conventionality
to keep society stable. Hypnopedia can be defined as, instruction of a sleeping
person especially by means of recorded lessons (Merriam). This technique is used in
an effort to teach citizens moral and ethical lessons, but in turn divides each class
based on their artificial development. Each member is groomed through this method
of sleep teaching to act and think in similar ways as their fellow class members. For
example, the Directors machine uttered, Alpha children wear grey. They work much

16. Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Testing
Nuclear Testing Ever since Cain murdered Abel, mankind has been a destructive
force unto itself. This is very prominent today. The war on terror has been raging
on for over fifteen years. Terrorists have used several kinds of explosives to kill
their targets. However, one specific explosive remains the fear of all nations, the
Nuclear Bomb. The atomic bomb was the brain child of Robert Oppenheimer. The
first nuclear bomb was also the first used in combat. Dropped by the United States
military on Hiroshima, August 5 1945, the city was leveled and left Japan
devastated. After this attack, the world was at a race to see who could perfect the
weapon. Countries across the world had nuclear weaponry tests. One of these
countries, was the United States of America. Many of the United States nuclear
tests took place in and around the Bikini Atoll in the 1940 s, 1950 s, and 1980 s.
These tests changed the lives of both the native people, wildlife, and the once
beautiful ecosystem which flourished on those Bikini Atoll islands. (http:/

was a nuclear airstrike codenamed Able and was carried out on July 1, 1946,

17. The Hurricane Starring Denzel Washington As Rubin,...
In this paper, I am going to compare and contrast the movie The Hurricane starring
Denzel Washington as Rubin Hurricane Carter to the handout provided for Nelson
Mandela. I will begin with a critical review of the movie. The setting of the movie
rotates from past to present, as the movie begin you will notice him in the ring with
the middle weight champion and eventually defeat him in the first round with a
knock out. Than the movie switch to him protesting in a jail cell, 193 at Trenton
State Prison, stating how he was wrongly accused for three murders and that
anybody who was trying to come get him will feel the wrath of the Hurricane. The
movie than revert back to the night where Rubin Carterand a young fella was
wrongly accused of three murders in a well known bar and grill, while leaving a
night club. The reason they was pulled over was because the cops said they was
looking for two black men in a white car. Mr. Carter than asked any two black men
would count? The movie fast forward to seven years later, approximately around
1980, where a young struggling African American high schooler purchase his book
from a book sale and is intrigued with the book because he can relate to the
mishaps of Mr. Carter. The young man, Les Martin, was in housed by three
Canadians who vowed to help him succeed in life and go to college. In the

18. Research Paper On Raising The Children
Raising the Children Derrick Moore Azusa Pacific University Raising the
Children Proverbs 22:6 says, Start children off on the way they should go, and
even when they are old they will not turn from it. This Bible passage is basically
stating that parents are to guide their child on a God honoring path. That way they
will stay on that path even when those parents are no longer around. From a
Christian viewpoint this proverb is simple, as God has called us to go make
disciples out of all the people of the Earth. It would only make sense that a parent
try to make a disciple of their children, or even start them on the right path. From a
psychology standpoint, though, this proverb covers many topics; nature vs.
nurture, parenting styles, and child development just to name a few. Ultimately,
this proverb focuses on the upbringing of a child, and while environment has some
effect on adult characteristics, it is how the child is raised that will greatly affect
the path in which they walk. This can best be illustrated by the stages of child
development, and different aspects of life affected by upbringing. Psychology
recognizes four major stages of childhood development. The first is from ages zero
to two, and is the infant/baby stage. This is a time for developing the bonds that will
last a lifetime; providing the child with the inner resources to develop self esteem and
the ability to relate positively with others. A time where the parents and the child

20. Why Girls Are Dumb
Why Girls Are Dumb Girls are dumb for a million reasons. What causes girls to
become selfish, fake, annoying bitches? Well, the world may never know. Why are
girls so different from boys? They are not that different are They? Girls are dumb
because instead of confronting people to their face, girls hide behind anything they
can. Girls are also dumb because they choose to see the bad in everyone instead of
the good and they also have a habit of being afraid to admit when we are wrong.
They make bullies out of themselves, sometimes not knowing it. Girls always tend to
hide behind anything they can so they do not have to actually go and talk about their
problems to another girlface to face. Talking to girls face to face is a whole lot
better than messaging them via text, email, snapchat, facebook messenger, or even
calling them. Nothing is the same as face to face because when you are with a
person face to face you can see their reaction, their facial expressions, and tears.
Straying away from the main point, but, why are girls so scared of those reactions?
That is what makes us human. Having emotions is what makes us who we are. Who
would we be without emotions? We would not be human. God created us with
emotions with emotions for a reason. Back on track, girls that do not confront people
face to face are scared and insecure of them own selves, so they try to make others
insecure about themselves by talking crap about other people but being too scared to
talk to them face to face. Sometimes, girls think they are doing the right thing by
confronting someone through via phone texting or calling, because confronting them
through phone is better than not confronting them at all, but in reality, it does not
help anything at all. Confronting them through phone is almost as bad as not
confronting anyone at all. Facetime is still not the same as face to face. Another
reasons why girls are so dumb is because they choose to see the bad in everyone
instead of the good. Yes, people make bad decisions sometimes, sometimes they do
things they regret, and, again, it is what makes us human. Nobody became who they
are today without making any mistakes. Mistakes can mold people into a better,
smarter and wiser person if

22. What Is The Dichotomy Between African Music And Dance
African music and dance invited me to take a thrilling journey this past semester. A
journey from surprise to skepticism, then from acceptance to appreciation. From the
beginning of the semester up till now, the way I have looked at African music and
dance has changed and changed, with characteristics varying and twisting about,
occasional nuances becoming essential features, and music and danceeventually
becoming inseparable. This new understanding that I have of such a deep rooted yet
underestimated subject in American history and culture has truly prompted me to
look at all types of music and dance from a new angle. But despite all that I ve
learned about African music and dance throughout this course, we have mainly
looked at the the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the music reaches it s peak, it dies down to emphasize the lyrics of what could
be considered the chorus, Kuti s mocking soldier commands, and the men begin to act
out those lyrics through dance. After two iterations of the chorus and a brief
intermission, the music picks up again and the women join in. For the remainder of
the work, dancers are engulfed into a vivacious, free willed routine all the while
mocking the movements and conduct of the not so vivacious zombie soldiers. After
watching this performance several times, it was this dichotomy between free will and
submission that stuck out to me most.
Moving on to the purpose of this paper, there are a few particular aesthetic senses of
African music and dance that appeared more up front to me in this work. Polyrhythm,
which refers to the ability to maintain two different beats two different rhythms
simultaneously, was apparent to me when paying attention to the different ways that
the men and women were respectively dancing throughout the work. While the men
showcased a lot of quick and rigid movements like the plantation dance hop step, the
women seemed to focus more on less distinct, fluid movements that continuously
bridged into one another. To me, the significance of all this is that as dancers
maintain two rhythms simultaneously, the focus is no longer whether their
movements are

Recently, 4K video has exploded onto the scene of affordable consumer cameras.
The GoPro Hero 4 and iPhone 6s are just two examples of consumer level devices
that are capable of recording 4K video. At first glance this technological
advancement seems like the perfect solution to videographers who need high
resolution video, but cannot afford a cinematic camera. However, this technology
is so new, there has yet to be a comparison between the various levels of devices
capable of recording 4K resolution video. Referring back to my problem statement,
the goal of this method is to determine if the GoPro Hero 4 and iPhone6s are a
suitable alternative to a 4K video camcorder. The following is a list of steps taken
in order to determine the effectiveness of these two devices. The first step was to
acquire the equipment and materials needed in order to achieve measureable
results. The three devices needed were an iPhone 6s, GoPro Hero 4, and a 4K video
camcorder. In addition to these cameras, I used a tripod for the camcorder, and
stabilized mounts for the iPhone and GoPro that attached to the tripod. I would
also need a color card to measure color, and a poster with a few words on it to
measure sharpness. Having access to the 4K TV in the Digital Media lab allows me to

I set the 4K camcorder onto the tripod along with the attached GoPro and iPhone in
three different settings. These three different settings were outdoors during the
daytime, outdoors in the evening, and indoors under artificial light. I also had to
make sure that each device was capturing the video in the 24fps, and that the
framing of each device was a close to the same as possible. While capturing the clips
in these three different settings, I placed the color card, and poster with wording
visibly in the frame of the video. I recorded several video clips on each device in
each setting so that I was sure I had plenty to work

Developed and Developing Countries
Countries are divided into two major categories by the United Nations, which are
developed countries and developing countries. The classification of countries is based
on the economic status such as GDP, GNP, per capita income, industrialization, the
standard of living, etc. DEVELOPED COUNTRIES refers to the sovereign state,
whose economy has highly progressed and possesses great technological
infrastructure, as compared to other nations.

The seven deadly sins or cardinal sins, are behaviors that classify under the
category of immoralities. According to this standard list, they include: pride,
greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth. These sins are often believed to be

articles of The Onion The 7 Deadly Sins give examples of people within a church

Radiology is a medical specialty that uses different imagaing technologies to diagnose
and to treat many different diseases and injuries that are inside the human body.
Being a professional in the health care environment today is a very important job.
The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) created a mandatory
continuing education (CE) exam for all radiologic technologist. The ARRT defines
the continuing education requirements as planned, organized and administered to
enhance the knowledge and skills underlying the professional performance that the
technologist uses to provide services to patients, the public or the medical
profession. To qualify as a CE activity, it must provide sufficient depth and scope of a
subject area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only one of the three different ways to earn credits must be completed to reach the
CE requirements. All credits must come from one of the two categories known as
A or A+ credit. The first way to receive the credits needed is by completing
educational activities that meet the proper criteria accepted by the ARRT. Attending
seminars, online programs, directed readings, or even writing a scholarly article are
some of the few educational activities that can be done to receive credits. Another
way to receive the required credits is for a technologist to pass a postprimary exam
for which they are permitted. Passing a postprimary exam will earn 24 credits in
category A. Some of the included postprimary exams for a technologist to complete
are the ARRT exams in quality managment, sonography, mammography, bone density,
computed tomography, and cardiovascular interventional technology. The last way to
earn credits is by passing an ARRT primary certification exam in a regulation that has
not already been passed and for which is permitted. Nuclear medicine exams through
the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board are accepted, as well as exams
in medical dosimetry certification through the Medical Dosimetrist Certification
Board and certification in diagnostic medical sonography, diagnostic vascular
technology and diagnostic cardiac sonography through the American

There have been many great books that have been based on the growing relationship
of technology and human beings. Today, technology is continuously changing and
evolving along with the way people adapt to these technological advances.
Technology has completely changed our way of living, it has entwined with our
humanity, by being able to replace limbs and organs that we once thought could not
be replaced. One of the most crucial things that technologyhas changed is the way
people in society interact with one another. A story written by William Gibson titled
Burning Chrome , portrays that very idea. In his text, Gibson presents that the reader

There are other websites like this one, which can allow a person to share every
single aspect of their life. People can take photos or video of what they are doing
or what they are experiencing. Through this way of communication a person is
able to experience another person s life. People today do not really need to
physically be present with one another in order for them to be able to talk and
interact. Computers have played a significant role in all aspects of our life ever
since they came into existence. They have shaped and molded the way we live and
interact. Many people in society have questioned the harms and benefits a computer
could give a child. One of the many concerns parents seem to have the most is that
children who rely on to much on technology would lose their individuality, get out of
touch with their own cultural, and make them not be able to tell the difference
between actual reality with virtual reality. Many of our youth have begun to lose
their socialization skills and have instead solely relied on electronic conversing
because the convenience of it. The way people have begun intimately meeting has
also changed, people now use the virtual world to meet potential partners or even
legally marry someone. Computers have allowed our civilization to reach out to each
other that our past civilizations thought were just impossible. Like in Gibson s Story
our usage of technology has gotten us to the point
28. The Physics Of The Atomic Theory
In chemistry, it has been stated that atoms are the basic building blocks of ordinary
matter that contain protons, neutrons, electrons, and can join to form molecules.
(Gagnon) Atoms are really tiny and are considered the source of nuclear energy in
all kinds of matter. The atomic theory became a very important piece in chemistry
because it explained the atomic structure and how it worked. Important scientists that
helped contribute to this theory were people like John Dalton and J.J. Thompson
which helped establish a foundation to the theory, as well as create experiments that
helped provide evidence of their findings. John Dalton was an important scientist
that established the atomic theory. His theory was as follows: 1.All matter is made
of atoms. Atoms are invisible and indestructible. 2. All atoms of given elements are
identical in mass and properties. 3. Compounds are formed by a combination of 2 or
more different kinds of atoms. 4. A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms. 5.
Atoms cannot be created or destroyed. (Leon) Dalton brought up this information
while using his gas experiments and it helped him determine the properties of atoms.
Although Democritus had somewhat already had a theory on matter, Dalton explored
and expanded the theory into what it is today. Dalton was inspired and borrowed the
term atomos or atoms from Democritus to label his particles. (Leon) Dalton also
created the first chart of atomic weights and introduced his belief that atoms
29. A Literary Analysis Of Robert Frost s Mending Wall
Analysis Mending Wall , By Robert Frost In Mending Wall , Robert Frost uses a
series of contrasts, to express his own conflict between tradition and creation. By
describing the annual ritual of two neighbors repairing the wall between them, he
contrasts both neighbors through their ideas and actions, intertwining the use of
parallelism and metaphors, in order to display his own innermost conflict as a poet;
the balance between what is to be said and what is to be left to the reader, the
balance between play and understanding. From the very first line, the speaker is
presented as playful and intelligent, and clearly not a В‘native farmer. He gives an
enjoyable and roundabout, almost magical, phrasing to the first line, Something...

And rather than give up and thus acknowledge the inexistence of his world, or the
falseness of his story, he remains lucidly supportive of imagination, by integrating his
neighbor into his fantasy as an old stone savage armed . This explains why the last
line, curiously, is spoken by the neighbor, for the neighbor, now having been
incorporated into the fantasy world, is able to take part in the poem, and its
imagination. Yet, at least on this level, the story is left inconclusive, without a direct
or open challenge from the speaker to the neighbor with regards to his outdated
traditions, as both the speaker and the neighbor fail to communicate with one another.
The speaker, ironically that is, creating a wall, through his imagination, that blocks
out his neighbor, and the neighbor supporting a physical wall that leaves out his
neighbor. Thus no wall is truly mended, as they all remain standing, and standing
strong. Besides this dramatic situation, an underlying an alternate meaning arises in
the poem, seen directly as Frost, as the author, interacting in the poem. The poem is
organized into only one stanza and is in iambic pentameter, with the exception of
several lines. This, obviously not a coincidence, is a representation for Frost s love
for the playful and intertwined nature of content and form. The own poem, through
its one stanza, and constant iambic pentameter form, save for
30. The Underlying Assumptions Of Consumer Sovereignty
Theory
Consumer sovereignty is the theory that consumers are the main elements in the
economy because they exert ultimate control over the economy. Through their
spending decisions, individual consumers ultimately determine the quantities and
qualities of goods and services produced and the availability of these goods and
services in time and space.
An example of consumer sovereignty is illustrated as follows: A drinks company
introduces two types of drinks in two continents: Drink A and Drink B. Drink A
sells very well in Africa and Drink B in Asia. Only the one that sells well in Africa
(Drink A) will remain in production in Africa whilst the one that sells well in Asia
(Drink B) will remain in production in Asia. Continuing to produce Drink B in Africa
and Drink A in Asia is not economically viable as the consumers in these regions do
not prefer it. Thus, through their purchasing pattern, the consumers have influenced
what goods continue to remain in production.
The underlying assumptions of consumer sovereignty theory in an ideal market are:
i.That the consumers are rational and try to make choices that maximize their utility
ii. That consumers have all the information needed to make the optimal choice iii.
That consumers are able to purchase goods and services in a competitive marketplace
Based on the above, consumer sovereignty in healthcare would imply that society
benefits at large when healthcare providers and organizations compete to develop
high quality products and

Exploring the African American Woman s Identity through the Arts
In the Africa American culture, there has been a longstanding discussion of the black
woman s physical appearance and how they identify themselves in society. Though
there are many themes of the Black experience in the media that discuss the standard
of beauty Black women should have. However, theatre has a creative and tactful way
of exploring these topics that are considered taboo in the African Americanculture.
During the Black Arts Movement, topics such as black empowerment and self
identity were the blue print for what the movement stood for. In reference to, A Brief
Guide to the Black Arts Movement Writers, African American artists within the
movement sought to create politically engaged work that explored the African
American cultural and historical experience (A Brief Guide to the Black Arts
Movement Writers.1). Prolific writers such as, Ntozake Shange s, Amari Baraka, and
Nikki Giovanni, just to name a few, were revolutionary in a creative and political
movement, which allowed for writers and poets to demonstrate the pains and qualms
of what African Americans faced in Western society. Two African American
playwrights, Lorraine Hansberry and Adrienne Kennedy, expounded on these topics
in their plays A Raisin in the Sun and Funny House Negro. In the further exploration
of stigmas of African American female hair and self identification through theatre,
these plays will be used as a platform to
33. The Importance Of Memory And Short-Term Memory
Roger goes to his friend s wedding where he is introduced to over 50 people. Roger
s goal at this wedding is to meet new people, and remember as many names as he
can. In order for him to get their names into long term memory, he first needs to get
them past sensory, and short term memory. For him to be able to do this, he needs to
come up with some strategies to remember these names. He will learn when it is
necessary for him to rehearse the names over in his head, group some of them
together, or making connections to the names. By testing out these strategies, we will
learn how information moves from sensory memory to short termmemory, and
hopefully to long term memory.
All information makes it to our sensory memory, but it only lasts less than one
second. When Roger got to the wedding, there was probably tons of people in all
different outfits, but he will probably never remember any of it. If he were to meet a
woman who he thinks is attractive, her outfit could enter his short term memory so
he can spot her out later during the party. If we pay attention to the information in our
sensory memory, in information is sent on to the second stage, short term memory
(Doyle Portillo Pastorino 271). The memory will last only about 20 30 seconds when
it reaches the short term memory. Because the short term memory can hold about
seven plus or minus two items, Roger could have payed close attention to the color
of her eyes and hair too. Maybe when he leaves the

One of his gods is represented as the pyramid of Qaholom, that is burned and
demolished. As he said, They struck down the idol of the god before my very eyes,
but he did not abandon me and I endured the torments in silence (169). When he
talks about the pyramid, he seems like he is more pleased that his gods are here with
him instead of completely disappearing. He clearly stated that they are not
abandoning him; even though he is being tortured, they do not leave his side. The
impressions of the things that are happening to him are like the things that happen to
his gods. TzinacГЎn senses that the things he thinks about represent furthering his
knowledge, getting him closer to knowing his god s script. He knows of the script,
but wants more structured knowledge of and the whereabouts of the script. As he
stated, The fact that a prison confined me did not forbid my hope; perhaps I had
seen the script of Qaholom a thousand times and needed only to fathom it (170). He
reflects that it is only right that the gods are leaving access to the script to him to
have as part his destiny. From the tone of the story, the knowledge he has of his gods

38. Music And Its Impact On Development Of Musical...
INTRODUCTION This essay will be looking at Indie music and discussing its
impact with regard to the development of musical performances and production.
The word Indie is a term derived from the word Independent. Originally,
independent music referred to bands or artists who performed and/or produced
music autonomously and without the commercial rules and restrictions associated
with major record labels (Hale, 2014). As a result, this offered artists more freedom
of expression and a wider scope to push the musical boundaries. Throughout the
years the term Indie has evolved into a broader meaning that is harder to define.
Today Indie is recognised as a genre of music and is often used as a prefix to
another genre such as Indie Pop and Indie Folk. So what is Indie music? And how
did Indie evolve to become a genre? BRIEF HISTORY OF EARLY
INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS Independent record labels have been around
since music started being recorded (King, 2012, p.13). Created by fanatics with a
passion for music, the recording and production process was often self funded and
the purpose was to nurture talent and creativity. Most of the major record
companies we know today would have once started in this manner (King, 2012). As
far back as 1917 independent record labels were recording early Blues and Jazz
music. In 1920 following the end of World War 1 (WW1), Brunswick became known
as the biggest independent label in the USA. Due to financial problems, Brunswick

41. Role of Cognitive Development in Trying Juveniles as...
In the United States, you are considered an adult at 18 years old. With age comes a
plethora of other privledges. You can drive at 16 with a proper drivers license,
legally engage in intercourse at 17, vote and purchase cigarrettes at 18 and
purchase and consume alcohol at 21. Although there is one age restriction that hasn
t been set in stone. In the justice system, one may be considered an adult at 18 and
be tried as such. The option of being tried as an adult hangs on many circumstances.
If the individual commited a serious crime, such as armed robbery, rape, or murder,
then they may be tried as an adult. If the individual was tried as an adult in an earlier
case, then they will continue to do so indefinetly. The... Show more content on

Scientists in this field, such as Lawrence Kohlberg ( known for his theory of moral
development) and Jean Piaget ( known for his epistemological studies with children)
study the construction of the human brain and its understanding of the world. Modern
cognitive scientists have come up with a new theory about the mind. After doing an
experiment involving an MRI of the human brain from ages two to twenty two, they
have conluded that the human brain is not fully developed until at least 25 years old.
This means that the justice system may be incorrect in trying juvinilles as adults in
court cases. What is the proper age that a person is considered an adult? Adolecents
lack the ability to make rational judgements and control sudden impulses when under
stress. Their descions are usually lacking in sense if it was made based purely upon
the emotion at hand (fear, anger, and nervousness illicit the most dangerous
reactions). Young adults are more likely to take focus on the current situation rather
than the consequences of the future. Teen judgement is skewed because of a great
deal of emotion going into their thinking, leading them to make irrational judgements.
According to scientists, the brain develops from the back to the front. The frontal
lobe, which is mainly responsible for executive processes (judgement, weighing
outcomes and decision making) is not fully mature. The
42. The Culture Of A Cultural Dance Essay
A Cultural Dance is defined as a dance, originating from a specific culture or county.

Abstract The following paper is a depiction of the current economic concern of the
real gross domestic product of the Federal Republic of Brazil. Included as well are
data sets which display the statistics and recorded data of the real gross domestic
products for the years 2000 through 2010. These data sets provide an analysis for
the afore mentioned time frame in order to accurately determine trends over a set
period of ten years. Moreover, the data and statistical evidence represented will
provide additional support for individual assertions based upon the trends in relation
to Brazil s real gross domestic product. The GDP within this nation directly affects

Although the trough beginning at the end of 2008 through 2009 proved to be a
financial crisis; the nation s economy s solid performance during this time lead to a
strong and early recovery, which contributed to the peak of the 2010 economic
growth rate of 7.5% in real gross domestic product (U.S. Dept. of State, 2011).
(The World Bank Group, 2012).
As demonstrated above, Brazil has created a trend in rising GDP since 2003 by
steadily improving their macroeconomic stability (Central Intelligence Agency,
2012). Analysis of the rises or decreases in real GDP are the most accurate method
to determine the state of a nation s economy. The rises in Brazil s real GDP
demonstrate that this country currently has a healthy, thriving economy. In addition,
an accurate analysis of the nation s current, past, and projected GDP provides
policy makers with a basis for determining economic and fiscal policies. Currently,
Brazil s President Dilma Rousseff has indicated her intention of continuing the
former economic policies, including sound fiscal management due to the economic
growth during the former President Lula s administration (U.S. Dept. of State,
2011). As an example of Brazil s thriving real GDP; according to The World Bank,
the nominal GDP (represented in U.S. dollars) for the year 2010 was
$2,087,889,553,822 (The World Bank Group, 2012). As an economic principle, both
real and nominal GDP increase during an

Traveling and seeing other parts of the world can be very eye opening. As you travel
to other countries you can learn many things about the way they live and the different
lifestyle they have from your everyday life. I got the opportunity to travel to Peru and
learn many new things about the country that you wouldn t know if you didn t get to
experience it first hand. One of the main things that is part of someone s lifestyle is
the food they eat. The meals that Peruvians eat throughout the day create a healthier
lifestyle than most Americans.
Peruvians always start their day off with a substantial meal. This meal is called
desayuno, and in english, breakfast. This meal is usually eaten around 7 a.m. to 9
a.m. The foods that are eaten for breakfast in Peru are very similar to the ones we
eat here in America. The foods most commonly eaten are bread, oatmeal, eggs, and
coffee. (Dunnell). The next meal of the day for Peruvians is their largest meal, called
almuerzo, or lunch. This meal is significantly different than how Americans eat
lunch. At around noon all business close and everyone goes home to eat lunch with
their family. This meal usually includes three courses so it can become very drawn

from the family goes back to school or `work at around 3 p.m. The three courses

One of the main reasons I find this to be true is the adult obesity rates of Peru
compared to America. In Peru, 15.7% of adults are obese, whereas in America that
number is multiplied by two and then some, with 33% (source). Some of the
reasoning behind this could be the types of foods that they eat. Peruvians tend to eat
a healthy breakfast whereas a typical American breakfast consists of greasy foods
like bacon or unhealthy pastries like donuts or

high from the ground, the light flickering at its last stages before burning out. He

46. Thomas Aquinas Five Proofs For God s Existence
Thomas Aquinas offered 5 proofs for God s existence (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009).
In Aquinas time, his works were considered very controversial and included some
that were condemned as heretical by the bishop of Paris (Archie, 2006). Since then,
Aquinas has come to be regarded as the greatest theologian and philosopher in the
Church s history (Archie, 2006). Further supporting Aquinas proof, many find
Creative Evolution attractive (Lewis, 2014). This gives a person much of the
emotional comfort of believing in God, and none of the less pleasant consequences
(Lewis, 2014).
The Aristotelian Background includes the argument for the existence of God from the
nature of efficient cause (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009). Within this argument lies the
key premise that Aquinas idea is that nothing can be the efficient cause of itself or
own existence (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009)., that nothing can be the cause of its own
existence, which Aquinas expresses the chain of causes of things which come into
existence cannot be infinite (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009). Therefore, God is the first
cause because nothing can be the cause of its own existence, or be responsible for its
own existence (Archie, 2006). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the cause of the existence of things, which was not itself caused to exist,
justifies the existence of God (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009). Finally, Aquinas makes

holding for an infinite regress of causes since there is no cause taken away (Archie,
47. The Influenza Pandemic of 1918 Essay
The influenza pandemic of 1918 had not only altered the lives of thousands, but the
habitual lives of family and work as well. The Spanish Influenza collected more
lives than all of the casualties of war in the twentieth century combined. After the
disease had swept through the nation, towns that once began their days in lazy,
comfortable manners had begun to struggle to get through a single day. What
started as a mild neglect of a typical fever or case of chills had escalated and grown at
an alarmingly rapid rate to be fearsome and tragic. The influenzaspread through the
simplest means of a welcoming handshake, a gentle touch, or the lightest kiss. Anna
Milani, a survivor of the disease, solemnly recalled a remorseful memory, I... Show

Lee Reay, another survivor of the influenza, reminisced:
It wasn t real medicine, but it smelled like medicine and it tasted like medicine and
we put a lot of honey in it so that it would taste pretty good and we passed it out to
everyone who wanted medicine. It went in a hurry, there wasn t much left. It didn t
do any harm. Most of them thought it did good[sic] (Kenmer Influenza 1918).
Homemade remedies were not uncommon and varied from necklaces of garlic to
the distinct scents of camphor, but none to prove to be promising. Death tolls kept
rising and some children were left to fend for themselves. Parents sometimes left
their healthier kids in the care of relatives that lived further away from the
pandemic or had spare bedrooms that better the chances of surviving. Family
members that passed away were denied a proper church service as a method of
slowing the spread of influenza; only immediate members of the family were
allowed a small and rather quick procession alongside the coffin. Ministers and
priests were scarce and hardly had the time to attend every procession thus leaving
it to the remaining mourners albeit the mother, father, brother or sister to give an
offer of prayer and bow their heads in sorrow of their departure of their loved ones.
Face to face contact was discouraged and often avoided which led to the death of

48. Greek Treatment Of Women In The Odyssey
Ancient Greece had different aspects towards women depending on the city. But
people can conclude that women were important since greeks worshiped goddesses
like Athena or Hera. However men still saw women less important than themselves,
but greek stories capture the amazing essence of women. In The Odyssey Homer
illustrates how women in Greek society are viewed although the are stronger and
smarter than what is on the outside.
Men dominate the household and women are treated cruelly and unappreciated.
When Penelope tells her tale of how the suitors took over house, the men are here to
court me against my wish; and they consume this house... wasted with longing for
Odysseus, while here they press marriage. (pg 27). Penelope, the queen ... Show more

For example, Calypso is viewed as pretty and perfect but she is abusive and cruel
to her men that she imprisoned, for long ago the nymph had ceased to please.
Though he fought shy of her and her desire, he lay with her each night, for she
compelled him. (pg 6). Calypso has been alone in her breathtaking island for time
but she takes advantage of every man that washes ashore. At first men view her as
everyone s dream girl and desire her but eventually Calypso desire the man in a
harmful way keeping them as her guest . Another woman, Circe, was discovered by
Odysseus s men and was viewed as a beautiful and peaceful maiden but little did
they know that she is a witch adding mischief in her unholy drug. I drank and the
drink failed. But she came forward aiming a stroke with her long stick and
whispered: Down in the sty and snore among the rest! (pg 16). In this scenario,
Circe is just a lovely lady playing the lyre engaging Odysseus s men with with her
beauty and kind hospitality. However they discover that they were deceived by none
other than a woman who they thought was harmless. Greek women are often
overlooked for what they are capable, which is demonstrated in The Odyssey, but
never underestimate what women can do.
Overall women can be strong and mischevious no matter what the men think. Homer
proves that women are often seen as the lower class but women can play an
important role in Greek society. As history moves on, women are given a chance and
become inspirational. In The Odyssey the men are bewitched by the women s beauty
but they soon discover the secret hidden inside every

Injured...
Despite an effective strength and conditioning program that helps prevent injuries,
young athletes will still get hurt. When injuries do occur, a coach must know the
proper treatment steps because he or she has a legal duty to provide immediate
emergency care for an injured athlete. In this regard, the coach must administer the
first aid or he or she must make sure a medical provider such as an athletic trainer
provides the proper treatment. Furthermore, a coach must understand the subsequent
rehabilitation involved that will successfully return the injured athlete to full
participation. Because anklesprains are the most common basketball injury, this
chapter will discuss the treatment plan considerations.
The initial objective with an ankle sprain is to control swelling that includes
protection, rest, ice, compression, and evaluation (P.R.I.C.E) treatment. The P.R.I.C.E
treatment plan involves 1) protecting the ankle with braces, wraps, or crutches, 2)
resting the ankle by not doing activities that cause pain, 3) icing the ankle for 20
minutes and off for 60 minutes throughout the first 48 hours after the injury,
compressing the ankle with a wrap, 4) elevating the ankle at or above the heart.
After the initial treatment, there are three primary modalities available to treat an
ankle injury: surgery, conservative treat with cast immobilization, and functional
treatment. Studies have found functional treatment as the best modality to treat
Grade 1 and 2 ankle injuries
50. Coca Cola Rhetorical Analysis
Coming up with advertising ideas is not as easy as it might sound. Sometimes two
or more companies might come up with the same slogan causing a conflict between
them. That s the case between the Coca Cola Company and the Grove Press
Incorporation. Both used the slogan It s the Real Thing to describe their products
and the Coca Cola company was not in agreement with that. A company executive
from the incorporation and a worker from the company, Ira Herbert, addressed this
issue through a letter. Mr. Herbert, used a demanding tone, repetition, and pathos in
order to get the Grove Press incorporation to stop using the slogan. On the other
hand, Mr. Seaver, the person from the incorporation is the most persuasive due to the
use of a serious direct tone, anecdotes, and sarcasm in order to explain to the Coca
Cola company that they have the right to use the slogan.
Herbert begins his argument by explaining to the Grove Press their inconvenience
with both of their products utilizing the slogan, It s the real thing . He explicitly
illustrates to Mr. Seaver how the Cola company feels towards the conflict and how
they would appreciate if they stopped using the slogan. In addition, Herbert wants to
point out that the advertising a company utilizes to describe their products is crucial
towards the credibility of a product. He uses pathos in order to persuade Seaver to
realize that it would be wrong if they used the slogan that the Cola company has been
using for so long. Please
51. Taking a Look at Chick-Fill-A
Which came first: the chicken sandwich or the egg sandwich? The world may
never know. However, the world does know the chicken sandwich easily trumps an
embryonic hoagie. The hard working Samuel Truett Cathy rose from the ashes of
the Great Depression and established his own ideas of modern chicken
consumption. In 1946, Cathy constructed a small restaurant, the Dwarf Grill,
which was named after how miniscule the space was. Four tables and ten stools
later, Cathy desired an expansion and to revolutionize the world of accelerated
dining. He yearned for a poultry meal that was as elegant as a beef filet (hence the
name Chick Fillet , however, neither time consuming to craft, nor expensive to
purchase (Starrs). The owners of Goode Brothers Poultry, a business in Atlanta, Jim
and Hall Goode, were approached by an airline to design a boneless, skinless
chicken breast that would fit in the plastic trays they used to serve meals on planes.
After accomplishing such an innovating tax, the Goode s had remaining pieces of
chicken; that is where Samuel Truett Cathy enters in this poultry fairytale. Cathy s
Dwarf Grill neither excelled nor failed, though, it enabled Cathy to further his
ambition, essentially a springboard to success. However, the business itself lacked
potential to grow. The Goode s approached Cathy to develop some sort of innovative
method with the left over chicken. Having previously toyed with idea of chicken
already, Cathy undoubtedly took the challenge. The
52. The Pros And Cons Of Spaying And Neutering
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying and neutering a cat or dog is an important and responsible thing to do.
Spaying or neutering refers to a surgical procedure to render a dog or cat unable to
produce litters of puppies or kittens ( What is Spay/Neuter? ) . Spaying and neutering
are surgeries performed by a veterinarian removing the reproductive organs. Spay and
neuters are the most commonly performed animal surgeries. There are many
advantages to spaying or neutering an animal. There are also common misconceptions
of these surgeries.
Spaying a pet is the surgical removal of the reproductive organs. In female, an
ovariohysterectomy, or spay, is the removal of the uterus, uterine tubes, and ovaries (
Spaying Your Cator Dog ). Spaying is considered a routine abdominal surgery. The
animal will be placed under general anesthesia, and recovery is usually prompt.
Spayed females will no longer have estrus cycles and will no longer be able to
reproduce.
Neutering refers to the removal of both testicles from the scrotum through a small
incision ( What is Spay/Neuter? ). Neutering is also known as castration. A
neutered male cat or dog is no longer capable of reproducing. Animals tend to recover
quicker from a neuter rather than a spay because it is less invasive (Tobiassen
Crosby 1). Some male cats or dogs may be
Rink 2 cryptorchid, which is a birth defect where the testicle doesn t migrate into the
scrotum. It is important that cyrptochid cats or dogs do not reproduce. Also, due to
53. The Main Factors Of The Communist Manifesto
The conditions that Karl Marx deems necessary for a communist revolution have not
manifested themselves in the present day, presenting challenges for communist
ideology. As our society has gradually been regressing further away from these
prerequisite conditions, a number of new factors have become present that challenge
the relevance of the Communist Manifesto. The first of these factors to be addressed
is globalization in the modern world. Ever since the age of imperialism, globalization
has served to spread capitalism and its effects across the world. This globalization did
not occur as predicted by Marx, with capitalism spreading across the world and
uniting the proletariat of every nation against the bourgeoisie (Munck 51). Instead, as
discussed earlier, globalization took a different route, forcing an interconnectedness
between every nation, and ultimately between their economies and politics. This
interconnectedness, led by the industrialized nations of the West throughout the past
two centuries, has generated a movement towards democracy and nationalism, as
opposed to revolution and supranational communism(Munck 52). While Karl Marx
predicted globalization and interconnectedness through capitalism, he did not predict
it to unfold as it did. Currently, this globalization has only worked to secure
capitalism, as the industrialized countries promote it throughout the rest of the world,
as seen repeatedly in U.S. intervention in foreign affairs. Consequently, this
54. Jane Atwood Bird Imagery Essay
Bronte frequently employs bird imagery in this novel, using it to show us the
deeper emotional thoughts and desires of Jane. From the beginning of the novel,
Jane has a fascination with birds from reading Thomas Bewick s History of British
Birds (which is an actual book). At Gateshead Hall, where Jane is lonely and
abused, she escapes from the Reeds family by retreating to a window seat with
Bewick s History of British Birds. One drawing in the novelthat catches Jane s eye is
the one with the solitary rocks and promontories that the seafowl inhabited (9).
Similar to the drawing, Jane is the only one who inhabits the solitary window seat
to find refuge from the Reeds, and it is here that she dwells in a world all her own,
wishing to be like the birdthat can soar in the sky freely. Through the image of the
seafowl, the reader is able to see the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later on, through the use of a hungry robin at Lowood, Bronte shows us Jane s
want of nourishment and her lack thereof, due to the other kids bullying and
stealing her food. She says, My vacant attention soon found a livelier attraction in
the spectacle of a little hungry robin, which came and chirruped on the twigs of the
leafless cherry tree (51). The little hungry robin also grounds Jane s desire to fly
free with reality, sending the message that even birds must come and face their
problems. The secondary role of bird imagery is to create a dichotomy between the
nature of Rochester and Jane, using what Bewick wrote about the brids, to
characterize them. Jane is a compassionate, strong willed individual who is willing to
serve others: A new servitude! There
55. A Vanished World Chris Lowney Summary
A Vanished World by Chris Lowney Book Report A vanished World written by Chris
Lowney chronicles the daily life of the Jews, Muslims and Christians, living in the
Muslim kingdoms in Medieval Spain. He covers different spectrum of this world that
was torn by religious antagonism. In Medieval Spain, in the medieval Spanish
villages Muslims, Christians, and Jews rubbed shoulders on a daily basis. They
shared irrigation system, bathhouses, municipal ovens, and marketplaces. But they
created a system that made everything work efficiently. Medieval Spaniards
introduced Europeans to paper manufacture, Hindu Arabic numerals, philosophical
classics, algebra, citrus fruits, cotton, and new medical techniques. More astonishing
than Spain s wide ranging accomplishments, however, was the simple fact that until
the destruction of the last Muslim Kingdom by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella in
1492, Spain s Muslims, Christians, and Jews often managed to bestow tolerance and
freedom of worship on the minorities in their midst. A Vanished World chronicles this
panoramic sweep of human history and achievement, encompassing both the agony
of Jihad, Crusades, and Inquisition, and the glory of a multi religious, multi cultural
civilization that forever changed the West. Chris Lowney in his writing showed how
these three controversial religious groups once lived and worked together in Spain,
creating commerce, culture, art, and architecture. He reveals how these three faith
groups eventually
