Virgin Of Guadalupe
Article #1 first discusses how the piece uses a tilma, or a woven cloak, as the canvas for the creation
of the Virgin of Guadalupe painting. The tilma uses two different types of fabric and could be
described as a cape like due to its length. The native painters used tempera and oil to create the
painting on the cloth piece. Guadalupe s skin color and black hair are both important factors to
consider during the interpretation of the painting, as no other image in the Spain had depicted Mary in
this way. However, over the years, the image has been altered quite a bit due to cracks and fading of
color in the painting. Her artistic meaning contained such as powerful message that she was also used

gave them an easy approach into doing it. It also discusses the resemblance between the Virgin of
Guadalupe and the Mulier Amicta Sole description within the Book of Revelation. However, the
article explains how the native people referred to the Mother of God as Guadalupe quite often. In fact,
many of the native people still had not converted to Christianity, but instead formed cults with
Guadalupe as their leader. The Mexican Guadalupe movement did not even grow large until the
seventeenth century when the native blood became more mixed and more Creoles, Spaniards born in

Athletes Vs Ncaa Essay
The relationship between a student athlete and a college is contractual in nature. In Barile v.
University of Virginia an Ohio court clarified that this contractual relationship is particularly
applicable if a scholarship or financial aid is involved in the relationship. However, the student
athletes are not in a direct contractual relationship with the NCAA. That contractual relationship exists
between the NCAA and its member institutions. Thus, the only contractual relationship former student
athletes have with the NCAA is as a third party beneficiary. Generally, student athletes are not third
party beneficiaries of the NCAA. However, Bloom v. NCAA clarified that a student athlete may have
standing as a third party beneficiary to the contractual relationship between the NCAA and its member
schools. Essentially, the court found that the NCAA and its members relationship, evidence by the
NCAA constitution, bylaws and regulations, was intended to benefit student athletes like Bloom. It is

According to research http://kidneystones.uchicago.edu/how to eat a low oxalate diet/
, diets that are low in calcium can raise urine oxalate levels. This is because proper calcium levels can
inhibit intestinal oxalate absorption.
A randomized controlled trial (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1455427/) studied men
with hypercalciuria (elevated calcium in the urine) and placed them on one of two diets to check
which would be the most effective in the prevention of kidney stones (a common symptom of oxalate
sensitivity).
One group followed a diet low in calcium and oxalate. The other followed a diet higher in calcium
with restricted intake of oxalate, protein, and salt.
At the five year mark, the latter group had a 51 percent lower rate of stone recurrence than those
following a low calcium diet.
Talk with your doctor about testing you for calcium deficiency and/or hypercalciuria if you re
experiencing symptoms of oxalate sensitivity before following the low oxalate diet.
It could make all the difference in your health.

Jesus Christ Change Over Time Essay
Christian ideas about Jesus Christ have changed over time from the first writings calling him a prophet
or the new messiah to the defining moment in Chalcedon deeming him one person with two parts,
human and divine. These changes can be attributed to the fact that after the death of Jesus Christ,
Christianity was still a relatively new religion and was still working out the exact interpretation of
Jesus Christ and what he meant to Christianity as a whole. The Apostolic Era, named after the twelve
disciples of Jesus Christ, is known as the founding era of Christianity and took place from 40 B.C.E.,
the death of Jesus Christ, to 100 C.E. In the early beginnings of the church, Jesus was referred to as

to 600 and was named after the earliest Christian theologian writers, the Fathers of the Church.
Despite the images of Jesus that were produced and distributed by Paul and the four gospel authors,
there was still a general confusion about Christianity and what its followers believed in. This
ultimately is a result of Christians breaking from conventional Judaism that rejected the claim that
Jesus was the messiah, which was the central teaching of Christianity. Christian writers brought up a
connection between Jesus and the sin of Adam and Eve. The connection made was that the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil and the tree of the cross were incidentally one and Jesus death
paradoxically restored the immortality the first couple had lost for themselves and their descendant
through their sin (Cunningham, 51). This statement is what brought about the debate over Jesus
divinity that has plagued Christianity since the beginning. To bring this to a decision, in 325
Constantine called for Christian bishops to convene at the Council of Nicea and discuss the raging
debate about the equality of Jesus Christ with God (Cunningham, 51). Following this first ecumenical
council, Tertullian, a North African Christian, coined the term trintas which translates to the idea of
three persons making up one divine reality. (p. 51) This idea stated that Jesus Christ was one divine
being made up of three separate persons: Father, Son, and Holy

Richard, Jon and Adam, the three co founders of innocent were sitting in the board room at innocent s

smoothies brand in the UK and in many of the European territories where the product has sold,
however much of the company s growth has been maintained by new lines as the smoothie market has

concentrated on innovation in flavours and launched big take home tetra packs, smoothies for children

Today, Europe s favourite smoothie company is selling their natural healthy product in 15 countries

From the outset, innocent has delighted its customers with its straightforward almost irreverent

Essay about European Colonialism and Imperialism
How were the Europeans able to conquer and control large areas of the globe? What gave them a great
advantage over other groups? The proximate cause of this advantage was their possession of guns,
germs, and steel. But how is it that they possessed these things and others did not? Ultimate causes of
the Europeans possession of these guns, germs, and steel could be Divine Providence. People at the
time thought that God favored the Europeans over other groups. Another ultimate cause could have
been Scientific Racism. Other people believed that the Europeans were genetically superior to the
other regions of the world. Now, because of Jared Diamond s thesis, we can conclude that the ultimate

Africa had 51 candidates but none of them could be domesticated. In the Americas, there were 24
candidates but only 1 was domesticated. In Australia, there was only 1 candidate and they could not
domesticate it. Even though there were many of candidates for domestication in areas other than
Eurasia, most of those animals just simply couldn t be domesticated. It was not because of the cultures
in these places, it was because the animals had to fit under certain requirements. They had to be the
right size, have an easy diet, have a stable growth rate, and have a pleasant disposition. For example,
an elephant could not be domesticated because it takes a long time for the elephant to reach its full
size. Also, a zebra could not be domesticated because it would violently bite and, zebras in general,
were too hard to domesticate. Again, we have a clear example of geographic luck. Disease gave
Europe a large advantage when conquering wide expanses of land around the globe. South Africans
and Australian Aborigines had no domesticated animals. They didn t form any immunity to European
diseases because they did not live in close proximity with any non domesticated animals. However,
Europeans had lived with domesticated farm animals for thousands of years. The diseases of the
Europeans came from farm animals but immunities formed over time. The Native Americans, South
Africans, and Australian Aborigines did not have any immunity to disease like the Europeans did. The

The Importance of the Clergy during the Middle Ages
Rough Draft For The Clergy
What was the middle ages like? What were the religions they believed in? What was the* Medieval
Feudalism like? What was Medieval Feudalism? These questions will all be answered and a more that
you might ask. In these pages you will learn about the Middle ages and mostly about the Clergy, one
of the most important and busiest parts of Medieval Feudalism.*First, what was Medieval Feudalism?
Medieval Feudalism was when the King was the most powerful person who also controlled all the
land. But he couldn t have controlled it all by himself right? The answer is...no, he actually had many
barons working underneath him to watch the king*s land and make sure there is no commotion and
rebellion against the king and crop growth and harvesting as well as taxes. What are the Clergy and
why are they so important in the Middle Ages? In the clergy there were many ranks and the most
powerful was the pope. The pope was the most powerful since the villagers and everybody else looked
up to him to ask God for forgiveness for their sins. In the Roman Empire, when the emperor was
absent for different reasons the pope basically took the emperors place and is the most powerful
person in the empire. The role of the pope is to be the churches spiritual leader and administrator.
Once the pope is elected he is the pope until the day he dies. The pope is also the legislator so he is the

Traditional Market Research Methods And The Lead User Market
Traditional market research methods and the Lead User market research process share a target
outcome of identifying new market or product development opportunity. The Lead User research
process differs from a traditional market research method at each step of the process, yet there are
some fundamental similarities between the two. When a company chooses a target market or product
line to perform market research on, traditional methods will often use an outside market research firm.
The first focus of this firm is collecting information from current customers and sales representatives.
The typical data collection methods include focus groups, customer surveys, and also site visitations
by company scientists and product developers to see the product in use at customer locations. In
contrast, the Lead User research method starts with the formation of an in company project team
comprised of both market and technical personnel1. The project team first focuses on performing
market research on their own within the area of interest and attempts to develop some project goals
related to what the ultimate outcome of the project should be, such as an improvement on a current
product or the development of an entirely new product1. The team then gathers information related to
their target market through informal interviews. Both the traditional and Lead User process use
interviews to gather date; however, the Lead User approach aims to interview more than just
customers and sales

Vietnam War Ethical Analysis
No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. Richard Nixon, 1985.
Since the Vietnam War, there has been almost fifty years of remembrance, various readings, and the
publication of military documents. However, Richard Nixon s quote still has a certain veracity. The
United States has fought in many wars, but none have compelled Americans to question our motives
like the Vietnam War. The United States should not have gotten involved in Vietnam, because it was
illegal, unjustified, and unethical.
The legality of the Vietnam War has been brought into question frequently since the Gulf of Tonkin
incident of 1964. Original United States documents blame the two separate attacks on United States
aircrafts and vessels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While many believe that the United States was fighting against communism, and communism should
be wiped off the entire face of this planet, one has to ask himself the question: is it really worth it?
However, the Vietnam War was not just botched. From the beginning, American military officials
brainwashed their soldiers into carelessly slaughtering millions of Vietnamese for the crime of being
communists. If any Vietnamese hesitated for a millisecond on listening to an order, he was shot. If any
Vietnamese was in simply in the way, he was shot. Aside from Vietnamese casualties, more 58,000
American soldiers died in this forsaken war. According to BBC News, the amount of ammunition fired
per soldier was roughly twenty six times greater in Vietnam than during World War II. Additionally,
by the end of the war, the United States had released the equivalent of about 640 Hiroshima sized
atomic bombs on Vietnam. This begs the question, what other things happened in this conflict that
hundreds of Vietnam War novels have conveniently hidden from the American public? Rape, torture,
imprisonment, pillaging and burning of villages, and starvation are just a few. According to Mother
Jones, on August 31, 1969, a young Vietnamese girl was kidnapped, held at gunpoint, brutally gang
raped, and eventually murdered by United States soldiers. Her full story was told in the book
Casualties of War by Daniel Lang, one of the few exceptions to all the patriotic Vietnam War books
out there. Even more hidden from public scrutiny were crimes that United States soldiers committed
against other United States soldiers. A document from the National Archives tells the story of a man
called Curtis, who was viciously raped by three fellow GI s. His story is as follows: Curtis was feeling
sick that late summer day and wouldn t drink with his hootch mates, so they pounced on him, held his
mouth open, and poured whisky down his throat. When he

A Comparison Of The One Hundred Years War Between England...
A war that lasted for 116 years, starting before the Black Plague, taking a break during the Plague, and
starting again after the Black death ended. A war that went through many kings and started because of
bitter rivalries. The One Hundred Years War between England and France was caused by Edward III s
claim to Philip the Fair s throne, England holding fiefdoms in France, and the Flemish textiles made
by the people of Flanders. Let s clear something up first. Edward III was the king of England and the
grandson of Philip the Fair. Philip the Fair was the king of France before he died. When he died, his
heir Charles IV became king of France, he died without an heir to the throne of France. Edward III

They make textiles which are then sold to the people of France. What are textiles? Textiles are a type
of cloth or woven fabric. This fabric or cloth is made from wool. The wool that the Flemish people use
to make the textiles is imported from England to France. The poor people of Flanders were caught up
in the dispute between England and France when the French want the Flemish to side with them
because the Flemish are French, but the English threaten to embargo the wool that the Flemish use to
make their textiles. This caused the Flemish to side with the English instead of the French in the fact
that they needed the wool to make money. The One Hundred Years war went through many kings,
went through the Black Death, was fought on French land, brought about Joan of Arc, and made bitter
relationships even more bitter. All of this was caused by three things that may seem minor but ended
up being major; An English boy s claim to the French throne, territories that were inhabited by the
English, and textiles made by the people who got caught in the middle of a tug of war; The

Ancient Indian Civilization
ANCIENT INDIAN CIVILIZATION
INTRODUCTION
In the 1920s, a huge discovery in South Asia proved that Egypt and Mesopotamia were not the only
early civilizations. In the vast Indus River plains (located in what is today Pakistan and western India),
under layers of land and mounds of dirt, archaeologists discovered the remains of a 4,600 year old
city. A thriving, urban civilization had existed at the same time as Egyptian and Mesopotamian states
in an area twice each of their sizes. The Indian civilization is one of the most ancient civilizations of
the world. It is known as the Sindhu civilization or the Indus Valley civilization or the Aryan
civilization. Sometimes it is also referred to as the Vedic civilization.

CLIMATE
Climate was an ingredient in early Indian civilizations for several reasons. Monsoons, winds that mark
the seasons, are one of the most immediate. The first monsoon of the season blows from North to
Northeast periodically during November through March. Little rain is present during this monsoon,
however what precipitation does fall, it falls on the Northern slope of the Himilayas. During mid June
through October a second monsoon indicates the Wet Season a.k.a. the southwest monsoon. Following
the southwest monsoon, heavy rains fall in its wake (however sparse rainfall falls on the Western
Ghats, the heaviest rainfull occours over the Ganges Valley and the Eastern Himilayan Mountains).
The timing of these winds is critical; too little or too late rainfall results in an unsuccessful harvest, yet
too much or an extended period of rainfall causes flooding along the country side. Temperatures also
play a significant role in how Indian s settled the land in anchient times. The ideal area the Deccan
plateau had mild temperatures in the summer opposed to the blistering heat of the Western Ghats and
valleys which could climb up to one hundred twenty degrees farenheit.
The annual rainfall in the Indus region varies between 5 and 20 inches (125 to 500 millimeters).
Except for the mountainous section of Pakistan, the Indus valley lies in the driest part of the
subcontinent. Northwestern winds

Compare and contrast T-cell development with B-cell...
Introduction
The developmental routes for these cells are very complex and unique but there are similarities. B
cells produce antibodies to bind onto foreign bodies that have invaded the host organism; this allows
cells such as cytotoxic T cells will then destroy the infected cell/structure. On the other hand, T cells
such as T helper cells that secrete cytokines to control immune responses and cytotoxic T cells that
destroy pathogenic cells and structures.
B Cells
B cells develop from pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells, which give rise to lymphoid progenitor
cells in the bone marrow. These stem cells have become Pro B cells when they have begun to express
B cell marker proteins such as CD34 and rearrange the genes that code for the ... Show more content

A lymphoid progenitor will begin to develop into a T cell if the Notch1 protein is overexpressed in the
cell. During the double negative 1 (DN) phase of development, the cells are migrating into the thymic
cortex as pro thymocytes from the bone marrow. They are yet to commit to a lineage so can still
mature into other types of T cell such as natural killer T cells, intraepithelial lymphocytes and
regulatory T cells. Also, the cells are yet to express CD4+ or CD8+ and only express c kit (CD117)
and CD25 on their cell membrane.
DN2 is a vital phase, it occurs in the subcapsular cortex of the thymus. It is here that the genes for the
gamma, delta and beta T cell receptor (TCR) chains [3] start their rearrangement process. The alpha
chain does not commence its rearrangement, as the recombinase machinery cannot reach its gene. In
this phase, cells fully commit to the T cell lineage and the expression of c kit and CD25 on their
membranes declines.
At the DN3 stage also in the subcapsular cortex, the thymocytes begin their development as αβ or γδ T
cells is made. This decision is made by the successful completion of the rearrangement of the β TCR
gene. If a cell chooses to become a γδ T cell, it finishes development here and enters the periphery.
Once this lineage choice has been made, the expression of CD25 is halted and the pre TCR is
expressed on the cell surface.
The DN4 phase is the last stage of early T cell development. Here, the alpha gene of

Cardiovascular System Lab Report
Introduction
Blood is one of the most vital components of the human body. The blood carries many functions such
as to supply oxygen to the bodies tissues, remove metabolic waste products, regulate our core
temperature as well as fighting infection and foreign bodies (Glover, 1997). The cardiovascular system
is composed of the heart and its vessels. The heart is an involuntary muscle which receives blood to
the atrias, which is then pumped via the ventricles. The vessels are composed of three main types.
Arteries, veins and capillaries; all which transport blood throughout the entirety of the body. The
constant action of both the vessels and heart ensure that the body receives a continuous supply of
blood, keeping us within our homeostatic limits.
Regular electrical impulses are sent within the conduction system of the heart prompting contraction
(Marieb, 2015). These electrical signals can be identified and documented by the use of an
electrocardiography (ECG) machine. In a familiar ECG recording, three waves will occur; The P

example when Edward is trying to open the lock with his hand you can hear the use of violins and
drums to create a fast paste of suspicion to the audience. Unlike the violins and drums that were being
played when Edward was walking out of the house that showed a concerned mood. Unlike the non
Diegetic sound during the scene when Jim and Kim are driving away from the crime scene which
gives a sense of anxiousness towards the audience , the non diegetic sound when Jim is driving the
van and is about to hit Kevin gave a frightening mood to the audience as to what s going to happen.
Also another film Tim Burton uses sound in would be Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Tim Burton
uses non diegetic sound when something interesting or bad is going to happen to one of the characters.
For example when Veruca goes cloes up to the squirrel and touches it and the squirrels attack her the
music is intense , it gave her dad sense of threatening yet outraged attitude towards Wonka and his
daughter also it made the audience curious as to what was going to happen to veruca. Unlike the

In Being Rejected: by a school does not make you a victim, Ruben Navarrette Jr. expresses his point
of view of Abigail Fisher and her tactics. Fisher filed for reverse discrimination for not being accepted
to University of Texas 2008. UT Austin has 52,000 students in 2016, 4.5 African American and 22
percent Latino. Fisher poor grade scores was the reason for her rejection of the university. The
Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Texas University 8 years later, 2016. Instead of accepting the

White Noise Identity
DeLillo s White Noise focuses heavily on the idea of identity in a technologically advanced world.
Jack Gladney struggles with his own identity throughout the novel, and he desperately tries to hold
onto ideas that make him feel human. He believes children have a stronger sense of identity because
they have not yet been corrupted by technology or society. Many of his children were born from
different mothers and represent different phases of Jack s life, thus different identities. When Babette,
his most trusted and beloved wife reveals her affair, Jack struggles most of all and becomes obsessed
with the identity of her new lover. Personal identity becomes something clouded and hard to decipher

This kind of community transcends the poisonous media and the objectification of human life. For a
small time in the book, white noise becomes inaudible. This ends when everyone discovers that the
media took no notice of their suffering, making them angry. The final forms of identity in White
Noise are love and trust in others. From Babette, Jack gains strength in himself. He believes Love
helps us develop an identity secure enough to allow itself to be placed in another s care and protection.
Babette and I have turned our lives for each other s thoughtful regard (DeLillo 29). This passage truly
emphasizes why Jack feels shattered later on at the mention of her affair. Babette also struggles just to
tell him, and she constantly interrupts his statements and questions to tell him what the story is not this
is not the story of a wife s deception in order to save her own identity as a devoted wife (Wiese 12).
Jack then becomes obsessed with knowing Mr. Gray s identity most likely because he lacks security in
his own. He almost dies due to his need to confront this mystery man. To Babette he asks Do I kill him
and feel better? He doesn t have to know who I am. I make up an identity, I invent a context (DeLillo
225). Once again, Jack shows his desire to be someone other than himself, to escape his life. In losing
his total love and trust in Babette, Jack also loses more of his own

Types And Diagnosis Of Depression
In a world today where antidepressant medications seem to be handed out like candy, could it be that
not every person who says they are depressed needs medication? Is a full on antidepressant the best
solution for a person who is displaying the symptoms of a very mild form of depression? In order to
explore this topic more fully, we must establish the definition and diagnosis of depression. According
to the DSM V, depression is defined and diagnosed with at least five of the following symptoms
during a two week period: Depressed most of the day, nearly every day Markedly diminished interest
or pleasure in all or almost all activities most of the day nearly every day Significant weight loss/gain
or increase/decrease in appetite when no dieting is present Insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day
Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day
Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt Diminished ability to think, concentrate,
or indecisiveness nearly every day Recurrent thoughts of death, recurrent suicidal ideation without a
specific plan, or suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide
These symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other
important areas of functioning. The symptoms are not due to the direct physiological effects of a
substance or a general medical condition (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).

Example Of Personal Statement
My father was raised in a predominantly Dominican neighborhood in New York City. Along with
other immigrant families, he grew up in the basements of tenement buildings. When he left home at
17, set out to quickly assimilate into what he viewed as mainstream America. This included raising me
as an American first. As a result, I lacked a connection to my culture. I knew nothing about Dominican
culture, food, or music. I yearned to learn more about my cultural identity. Fortunately, I attended one
of Seattle s most diverse public high schools. Students there spoke more than 15 different languages.
While I was unable to connect with students from the Dominican Republic, by befriending students
who had come from all over the world, I learned a great deal about the world and other people s lives.
Through my personal quest to learn more about myself, I discovered a passion for building awareness
about other cultural perspectives. When I saw there was an isolation of Islamic students at ... Show

Literary Uses Of Literary Devices In Poetry And Language
Poetry is known to be a creative thought or impassioned feeling using language and is expressed in
many places in the world. A poem can have many different meanings according to how an individual
interprets it. Various literary devices are used to bring out that interpretation and the sense of what the
person thinks that is going to happen. In the poem Saturday at the Canal by Gary Soto and Nothing
Better by The Postal Service the theme is sometimes in life you may go through tough times but it is
up to you whether they will continue. Some literary devices that show the coming up from tough times
are figurative language, imagery, and the mood of the poems/songs. Figurative language is one literary
device that supports the theme of coming back from tough times. In Saturday at the Canal the speaker
is in school and is going through a tough life and the teachers were too close to dying to understand
(Soto 5 6). This hyperbole is showing how miserable in life the speaker is in that current point using
exaggeration and how the speaker wants to change it by heading to San Francisco. The teachers
probably were from an older time and could not possibly understand the life of a modern teenager. In
Nothing Better the speaker is going through a breakup with his girlfriend and is willing to block the
door like a goalie tending the net (The Postal Service 6 7). The simile shows how much the speaker
wants things to become better and does not want her to leave him. In soccer

subject so you can get the idea of what I would want to study. I love math, it;s simple and easy for me.
It s so thrilling when you narrow down the right answer. Another subject that I enjoy is my band class.
It feels awesome when I hear the instruments fuse together and make an extremely cool sound.

Nonverbal Expectance Violation Theory
As I researched various theories, the Nonverbal Expectancy Violation Theory stood out to me the
most. Neuliep (2015) has described this theory as people holding expectancies about the
appropriateness of the nonverbal behaviors of others. The Nonverbal Expectancy Theory (NEV) was
formulated by Dr. Judee Burgoon. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) states the basic tenet undergirding
NEV theory holds that individuals have expectations of how things will be and how people will
behave. Sidelinger and Bolen also states that expectancy refers to what an individual expects or
predicts will happen in an interaction. When we make an assumption, we are partaking in
expectancies. Burgoon (as cited by Sidelinger and Biolen, 2015) notes that what we expect in an
interaction is based on three factors, context, relationship, and communicator characteristics.
Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) believes that our expectancy can be determined by our environment. For
an example, the way I communicate at the playground with my children is different than how I
communicate at the grocery store. The expectancy of relationships is based on the connection we have
with the person with whom we are interacting with. Finally, Sidelinger and Bolen (2015), states that
communicator characteristics refer to the demographics (gender, age, race etc.) of the other in the
interaction and additional characteristics such as the other s communication style.
Additionally, the perception of how we view someone plays a role in how we expect them to react or
interact. If I am playing with a Poodle, I expect it to be fun, playful, and bubbly. If I am playing with a
Rottweiler, I expect it to be aggressive and assertive. While these are my expectancy of the dogs it
could turn out to be the opposite of my assumption. There are two types of expectancies. Predictive
and prescriptive. Offering a counterpoint to this perspective is nonverbal expectancy violations theory,
which posits that violating social norms and expectations may sometimes be a superior strategy to
conformity in achieving such communication outcomes as attraction, credibility, helping behavior, and
persuasion, Burgoon and Aho,; Burgoon, Coker, and Coker, Burgoon and Hale; Burgoon and Jones;

Journal For Araby
Journal Assignment: Araby by James Joyce. Quote: Joyce (1914), The cold air stung us and we played
till our bodies glowed. (p 1, ln 18 22) Paraphrase: The short story Araby by James Joyce (1914) starts
out with the dreary opening describing dead streets, uninhabited houses at blind ends, and others
turning brown imperturbable faces to each other. Why I disliked the Story I read for a number of
reasons including interesting plots, technical knowledge, and sometimes for the simple beauty of the
words. This story unfortunately appealed to none of them. I starts by describing the dreary oppressive
environment. There are some glimmers of light in the play of the children but most of this is
overshadowed by the rest of the story. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

On the negative, it appears my assignment wasn t given an assessment, which dumps it on the
professor (sorry about that). Unit 1 Assignment Extending my discussion profile was straight forward.
This is the third time I have been asked to do a profile, so it s getting easier. Although I don t mind
talking about myself in person, doing so online causes me some trepidation. Online posts can persist
indefinitely, kind of like a wet flatulent dog, which has long since left the room. As a compromise
what I provided was a well written honest piece of fluff, which says little, and hopefully will meet the
requirements. Learning Journal After a summer off it s hard to get back to writing a learning journal.
Previously, I was so well trained that all my writings seem to come out as 500 words essays. Although
I make fun of them, they actually help me focus my efforts, and improve my performance. Summary

more to my liking. Besides that minor issue, it was a good week. Hopefully the above quotes,
citations, and reference are correct, and we can build on it as the course

The Motif of Poverty Throughout Crime and Punishment by...
Poverty is an essential motif in Crime and Punishment that enables characters to expose their isolation
from society. Raskolnikov demonstrates the true effect that poverty can have on an unemployed man
in the 1860s. Razumikhin is seen as Raskolnikov s foil character that reacts to his form of poverty in
the opposite way of Raskolnikov towards society. The weight of being desperately pour effects

It shall not be, so long as I am alive, it shall not, it shall not! I won t accept it! (Part 1. 4.). Raskolnikov
begins to alienate himself from his ex colleague, Razumikhin, although at points it is Razumikhin who
supports Raskolnikov the most. It forces Razumikhin to replace Raskolnikov in situations that should
have been left to his authority. In a situation where Raskolnikov should have reassured Dounia and
Pulcheria of their safety he waved his hand weakly to Razumikhin to cut short the flow of warm and
incoherent consolations he was addressing to his mother and sister (Part 3. 1). As Raskolnikov began
to slowly move away from any form of comfortable socialization and a growing poverty situation, his
stubbornness to contain his pride and dignity eventually builds up to the brutal murder of Alyona.
Razumikhin is in a similar financial situation as Raskolnikov. Razumikhin foils Raskolnikov in his
response to a desperate situation such as struggling poverty. He faced his struggles with a trial and
error personality. His view stood that you never reach any truth without making fourteen mistakes and
very likely a hundred and fourteen (Part 3. 1). It was in these positive outlooks that make Raskolnikov
realize how intense his isolation was becoming.

The Consequences Of Mississippi Burning
Mississippi Burning is based on a real historical event that takes place in the middle the civil rights
movement in Mississippi in 1964. The story sheds light on the investigation of the disappearance of
three civil rights workers. Faced with the daunting challenge of investigating a murder case in a town
where the Ku Klux Klan enjoys a great deal of support and discrimination runs deep, the FBI agent
had to resort to unconventional methods to crack the mystery behind the disappearance of the three
men. This film shows the deep division that persisted in the south and it gives us a glimpse of the
horror that Black people had to endure. This film illustrates the struggle of black people in their quest
to equality and justice. It gives us, the students a greater sense of this dark history of our country and
serves as a reminder that we must always be cognizant of the bleak consequences of hate and
discrimination.
Mississippi Burning is a portrayal of the murder of three Civil Right Worker in Mississippi in 1964

Can you still recall the easygoing days of your childhood that were full of cartoons and toys? What
kind of toys did you play with? Did you play with action figures, baby dolls, video games, or Easy

Roland Barthes s claims in his essay, Toys, concerning both the description of toys as being a

or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain
way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can
be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book Odds Against Tomorrow,
by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to
notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other
characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous experiences or life
events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of
multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives
come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences
or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding
factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experience come to
change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be encountered after one

Dallas Symphony Orchestra Concert Report
Introduction
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra performed at Timberglen Park on a stage with bright lights. The
concert was conducted by Ruth Reinhardt. The pieces performed included John Williams Midway
March, Grieg Morning from Peer Gynt, Grieg In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt, John
Williams Theme from Jurassic Park, Adolphus Hailstork Epitaph For a Man Who Dreamed (In
Memoriam: Martin Luther King Jr.), Copland Hoe Down from Rodeo, Anderson Blue Tango, and
John Williams Superman March. The park was an open, grassy area where the public sat on the
ground around the stage to listen. The performers wore white tops and black bottoms, giving them a
professional appearance.
John Williams Midway March The opening piece began with a ... Show more content on

It was soothing and delicate with the slower tempo. I think this had more of an emotional effect on me
than the first piece because of the gentleness of the music. I like the balance between the stringed
instruments and the band. It was easier to appreciate and to listen to each individual instrument rather
than listening to them all at once.
Grieg In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt The piece began with the celloists and bassists
plucking their strings, then the violins joined. The dynamic of the first half was moderately loud. The
rhythm picks up and the beat is faster and louder with the repetition of the plucking by the same
instruments. As the piece concludes, the tempo speeds up quickly and the dynamic of forte was
present, ending in a sudden stop. My initial reaction to this piece was that it gave off a creepy and
mysterious vibe. The plucking of the stringed instruments felt as though we were tiptoeing through a
horror story. When the tempo got faster, I felt the suspense and my heart racing. I enjoyed the abrupt
stop at the end of the piece because it was unexpected considering how fast the music was going and
was a pleasant

Employees were unhappy with their state of work and the manners in which they were laid off. As one
company made sweeping cuts in the hopes of saving money, others followed suit. This led to many
lawsuits being filed by employees – some as individual cases and some as class actions. Employers
had to find ways to limit these lawsuits or contend with the misery at hand. FastServe Inc. is a $25M,
350 person company involved in the direct marketing of branded sports apparel. The company decided
to open two online marketing and distribution channels in order to focus exclusively on America s
Generation Y segment. Immediately after the implementation of these channels occurred, the company
began to experience technology problems and chose to move out of the online business. This led to
some major decision making for the company s management team. The online division had to be
downsized and FastServe could only retain a few employees and assign them new jobs, based on their
performance and skill levels. Five employees have been identified out of which three needs to be
released. Possible risks of discrimination claims exist against the company from the dismissed
employees. The goal of this paper is to help identify which of these employees should be laid off,
identify the key concepts of employment law that would affect each of the employees employment
status, and explain any

Medical History Research Paper
Many drugs commonly used today are of herbal origin. There is Archaeological evidence indicating
use of herbs and plants for medicinal purposes dating back 60,000 years. It was the learning from our
ancestors that yielded the development of medicine as it is known today. Yet modern medicine is
favored, by the majority, over herbs and plants provided by nature. A role reversal has occurred. Can
modern medicine and natural medicine effectively coexist? In 1960, a Neanderthal was discovered
buried with eight different types of plants; some of these are still used in medicine today. It is this
discovery that suggests our history of medicine, by way of plants, has been unfolding for thousands of
years (Medicinal Botany). Much knowledge was gained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Albeit, marketing in the United States has a grave influence on the choice for synthetic drugs. It has
been known by many that the pharmaceutical industry has marketed medicines that do not produce the
results based on their claims. In addition, consumers have become increasingly unsettled with the high
cost of synthetic medications (Spilsbury 14 19). It is a combination of these factors and others that are
leading Americans back to their roots of natural healing medicine. As with synthetic medicines,
traditional plant medicine has its own handicap. Without regulation of natural medicines, consistency
of plant potency, efficacy, toxicity and safety are ambiguous. Consumers may falsely assume the
natural products are safe (Lewis 186.) As mentioned earlier, synthetic drugs usually contain a single
component extracted from a plant source. The original plant is complex in nature and consists of
various naturally occurring chemicals. Therefore, understanding any negative side effects from
treatment of the primary plant source would be more complicated. Modern medicine is scientifically
based and

The Assassin
The Assassin Short Story He just lay there, on the wet ground, for hours. He looked as though he was
just casually waiting and that it was perfectly normal to lie on the ground. After a few hours it started
to rain heavily, though this did not discourage him in the slightest as he just carried on lying there,
looking comfortable and content. Once in a while a car would drive along the lonely road and the
people inside would stare in his direction but the long grass hid him. He had a serious frown and thin,
pursed lips with a protruding jaw. Whilst lying there in the rain he chain smoked a cigarette, carefully
putting the buts in his pocket to ensure no evidence was left, and watched the view ... Show more

As the car went past the gate, he noticed a long deep scratch along the left side of it. Right on queue,
the car drove over the nail he had planted on the path, the car swerved and came to a stop. The woman
in the car got out and went to the tyre to see if she could see what had punctured it. She went back to
the car and fished out her mobile. She put it to her ear, but didn t say anything. He looked at his own,
and saw that there was no signal and then looked up and saw that she was trying again. A frustrated
expression appeared on her face. Soon after she got back in the car to shelter from the rain. A little
while later, she got out and started to run towards the house, the rain thrashing against her body. She
accidentally ran into a puddle and tripped, but dragged herself up and carried on running. When she
got near the porch, she stopped to take a look at the house. After a minute or two, she walked towards
the entrance to the house, her hair by now plastered to the side of her face. As she reached the door,
she paused, just as he knew she would. She turned the doorknob and stepped inside, and then he
pounced, hitting her in the back of the head with one single shot. He walked up when she was on the
floor and shot her again to ensure that she was dead. The walls were painted with her deep red blood,
and her splintered

Social Hierarchy In The Middle Ages
Middling Problems
Kings are the ones who lead and conquer. Lords are the ones who rule and sit barking orders to the
lower classes. Knights are the ones who follow their code of honor, chivalry at its finest. Peasants are
the ones who work until their bodies give out just to provide for their family. These are words that
depicted the social hierarchy during the Middle Ages or rather, the Dark Ages. An age where not
everyone is given the chance to elevate to a new status, where the oppressed stays oppressed while the
aristocrats sits in their fine houses and live lavishly. But...only the men get to exercise their power, as
the women during this period lay dormant, sitting in their chairs as if they were just glorified display
pieces showcased by their husbands for all to see. It s even worse if they were peasants, as they were
only expected to give childbirth and care for the family while working out in the fields.
Meanwhile, in the current period, everyone is given a chance to increase their standing in life. Blood
inheritance holds little to no meaning anymore, only skill and talent will let you prosper in life. This
sounds like a good thing, but for me it feels like no change has happened at all. ... Show more content

The Black Death rattled the people s belief in God, and their faith in that they will be saved. Peasants
revolt at the unfair actions of the nobility. Uprisings occur because of foreign intervention. Basically,
the Medieval Period was a parade of, sorry for the word, fuck ups, one after another. The social
hierarchy is one of those. Peasants keep complaining and complaining about their situation, yet they
do not do anything about it. That s because of Manorialism. They depend too much on their lords for
food and lodging. But not voluntarily. They had no other choice, as they will starve to death in the
streets, homeless. They had no chance to improve their

Diversity Field Report
92 BLX The Beat of The Bay. This is DJ Rodsky boomed the radio into my preschool classroom at St.
Mary Catholic School. My best friend Emani s dad was featured on the radio that morning, and my
teacher let the whole class tune in. While in may seem like an odd occurrence to listen to a rap station
in a preschool setting, it highlights the attitude towards diversity that shaped my formative education.
Instead of the hand picked, curated diversity that sometimes plagues schools, this encounter
demonstrates the raw, unalderterated diversity that kindles appreciation for all races, genders,
backgrounds, or affiliations without any reservations. This unique experience from such a young age
paints a clear memory in my mind that denotes that diversity is important because it gives people a
new perspective on life. People that move through life totally unaffected by the reality of diversity,
sheltered from the harmless encroachment on their social organization, lack the ability to be able to
fully understand people from different backgrounds or races that they meet in the real world. Being
exposed to diversity in all forms at a young age helps develop in people humility, compassion,
consideration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary Catholic School manifests the imperativness of diversity that derives from the reflection of the
real world it presents on a small, comprehensible scale. Confidently stepping into the real world
without having been adequately prepared by exposure to people that possess different characteristics
from one s own sets one up for failure in an unfamiliar environment. People that do not experience
diversity are ill equipped to handle real life diversity because they have never learned how to deal with
it. Having been presented with opportunities to handle diversity in my past, I am able to manage it in
everyday life, which is a vital skill crucial to becoming a functioning part of

The tilma uses two different types of fabric and could be described as a cape like due to its length. The native painters used tempera and oil to create the painting on the cloth piece. Guadalupe s skin color and black hair are both important factors to consider during the interpretation of the painting, as no other image in the Spain had depicted Mary in this way. However, over the years, the image has been altered quite a bit due to cracks and fading of color in the painting. • 3. Athletes Vs Ncaa Essay The relationship between a student athlete and a college is contractual in nature. In Barile v. University of Virginia an Ohio court clarified that this contractual relationship is particularly applicable if a scholarship or financial aid is involved in the relationship. However, the student athletes are not in a direct contractual relationship with the NCAA. That contractual relationship exists between the NCAA and its member institutions. Thus, the only contractual relationship former student athletes have with the NCAA is as a third party beneficiary. Generally, student athletes are not third party beneficiaries of the NCAA. However, Bloom v. NCAA clarified that a student athlete may have standing as a third party beneficiary to the contractual relationship between the NCAA and its member schools. • 6. Jesus Christ Change Over Time Essay Christian ideas about Jesus Christ have changed over time from the first writings calling him a prophet or the new messiah to the defining moment in Chalcedon deeming him one person with two parts, human and divine. These changes can be attributed to the fact that after the death of Jesus Christ, Christianity was still a relatively new religion and was still working out the exact interpretation of Jesus Christ and what he meant to Christianity as a whole. The Apostolic Era, named after the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ, is known as the founding era of Christianity and took place from 40 B.C.E., the death of Jesus Christ, to 100 C.E. In the early beginnings of the church, Jesus was referred to as the Messiah, which connects back to a ... Despite the images of Jesus that were produced and distributed by Paul and the four gospel authors, there was still a general confusion about Christianity and what its followers believed in. This ultimately is a result of Christians breaking from conventional Judaism that rejected the claim that Jesus was the messiah, which was the central teaching of Christianity. Christian writers brought up a connection between Jesus and the sin of Adam and Eve. The connection made was that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and the tree of the cross were incidentally one and Jesus death paradoxically restored the immortality the first couple had lost for themselves and their descendant through their sin (Cunningham, 51). This statement is what brought about the debate over Jesus divinity that has plagued Christianity since the beginning. To bring this to a decision, in 325 Constantine called for Christian bishops to convene at the Council of Nicea and discuss the raging debate about the equality of Jesus Christ with God (Cunningham, 51). Following this first ecumenical council, Tertullian, a North African Christian, coined the term trintas which translates to the idea of three persons making up one divine reality. (p. 51) This idea stated that Jesus Christ was one divine being made up of three separate persons: Father, Son, and Holy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The proximate cause of this advantage was their possession of guns, germs, and steel. But how is it that they possessed these things and others did not? Ultimate causes of the Europeans possession of these guns, germs, and steel could be Divine Providence. People at the time thought that God favored the Europeans over other groups. It was not because of the cultures in these places, it was because the animals had to fit under certain requirements. For example, an elephant could not be domesticated because it takes a long time for the elephant to reach its full size. • 10. Traditional Market Research Methods And The Lead User Market Traditional market research methods and the Lead User market research process share a target outcome of identifying new market or product development opportunity. The Lead User research process differs from a traditional market research method at each step of the process, yet there are some fundamental similarities between the two. When a company chooses a target market or product line to perform market research on, traditional methods will often use an outside market research firm. The first focus of this firm is collecting information from current customers and sales representatives. The typical data collection methods include focus groups, customer surveys, and also site visitations by company scientists and product developers to see the product in use at customer locations. In contrast, the Lead User research method starts with the formation of an in company project team comprised of both market and technical personnel1. The project team first focuses on performing market research on their own within the area of interest and attempts to develop some project goals related to what the ultimate outcome of the project should be, such as an improvement on a current product or the development of an entirely new product1. The team then gathers information related to their target market through informal interviews. Since the Vietnam War, there has been almost fifty years of remembrance, various readings, and the publication of military documents. However, Richard Nixon s quote still has a certain veracity. The United States has fought in many wars, but none have compelled Americans to question our motives like the Vietnam War. The United States should not have gotten involved in Vietnam, because it was illegal, unjustified, and unethical. While many believe that the United States was fighting against communism, and communism should be wiped off the entire face of this planet, one has to ask himself the question: is it really worth it? However, the Vietnam War was not just botched. From the beginning, American military officials brainwashed their soldiers into carelessly slaughtering millions of Vietnamese for the crime of being communists. If any Vietnamese hesitated for a millisecond on listening to an order, he was shot. If any Vietnamese was in simply in the way, he was shot. Aside from Vietnamese casualties, more 58,000 American soldiers died in this forsaken war. According to BBC News, the amount of ammunition fired per soldier was roughly twenty six times greater in Vietnam than during World War II. Additionally, by the end of the war, the United States had released the equivalent of about 640 Hiroshima sized atomic bombs on Vietnam. This begs the question, what other things happened in this conflict that hundreds of Vietnam War novels have conveniently hidden from the American public? Rape, torture, imprisonment, pillaging and burning of villages, and starvation are just a few. According to Mother Jones, on August 31, 1969, a young Vietnamese girl was kidnapped, held at gunpoint, brutally gang raped, and eventually murdered by United States soldiers. Her full story was told in the book Casualties of War by Daniel Lang, one of the few exceptions to all the patriotic Vietnam War books out there. Even more hidden from public scrutiny were crimes that United States soldiers committed against other United States soldiers. A document from the National Archives tells the story of a man called Curtis, who was viciously raped by three fellow GI s. A war that lasted for 116 years, starting before the Black Plague, taking a break during the Plague, and starting again after the Black death ended. The One Hundred Years War between England and France was caused by Edward III s claim to Philip the Fair s throne, England holding fiefdoms in France, and the Flemish textiles made by the people of Flanders. In the vast Indus River plains (located in what is today Pakistan and western India), under layers of land and mounds of dirt, archaeologists discovered the remains of a 4,600 year old city. A thriving, urban civilization had existed at the same time as Egyptian and Mesopotamian states in an area twice each of their sizes. CLIMATE Climate was an ingredient in early Indian civilizations for several reasons. Monsoons, winds that mark the seasons, are one of the most immediate. The first monsoon of the season blows from North to Northeast periodically during November through March. Little rain is present during this monsoon, however what precipitation does fall, it falls on the Northern slope of the Himilayas. During mid June through October a second monsoon indicates the Wet Season a.k.a. the southwest monsoon. Following the southwest monsoon, heavy rains fall in its wake (however sparse rainfall falls on the Western Ghats, the heaviest rainfull occours over the Ganges Valley and the Eastern Himilayan Mountains). The timing of these winds is critical; too little or too late rainfall results in an unsuccessful harvest, yet too much or an extended period of rainfall causes flooding along the country side. Temperatures also play a significant role in how Indian s settled the land in anchient times. The ideal area the Deccan plateau had mild temperatures in the summer opposed to the blistering heat of the Western Ghats and valleys which could climb up to one hundred twenty degrees farenheit. On the other hand, T cells such as T helper cells that secrete cytokines to control immune responses and cytotoxic T cells that destroy pathogenic cells and structures. A lymphoid progenitor will begin to develop into a T cell if the Notch1 protein is overexpressed in the cell. During the double negative 1 (DN) phase of development, the cells are migrating into the thymic cortex as pro thymocytes from the bone marrow. They are yet to commit to a lineage so can still mature into other types of T cell such as natural killer T cells, intraepithelial lymphocytes and regulatory T cells. Also, the cells are yet to express CD4+ or CD8+ and only express c kit (CD117) and CD25 on their cell membrane. DN2 is a vital phase, it occurs in the subcapsular cortex of the thymus. It is here that the genes for the gamma, delta and beta T cell receptor (TCR) chains [3] start their rearrangement process. The alpha chain does not commence its rearrangement, as the recombinase machinery cannot reach its gene. In this phase, cells fully commit to the T cell lineage and the expression of c kit and CD25 on their membranes declines. At the DN3 stage also in the subcapsular cortex, the thymocytes begin their development as αβ or γδ T cells is made. This decision is made by the successful completion of the rearrangement of the β TCR gene. If a cell chooses to become a γδ T cell, it finishes development here and enters the periphery. Once this lineage choice has been made, the expression of CD25 is halted and the pre TCR is expressed on the cell surface. The DN4 phase is the last stage of early T cell development. The blood carries many functions such as to supply oxygen to the bodies tissues, remove metabolic waste products, regulate our core temperature as well as fighting infection and foreign bodies (Glover, 1997). The cardiovascular system is composed of the heart and its vessels. The heart is an involuntary muscle which receives blood to the atrias, which is then pumped via the ventricles. The vessels are composed of three main types. Arteries, veins and capillaries; all which transport blood throughout the entirety of the body. The constant action of both the vessels and heart ensure that the body receives a continuous supply of blood, keeping us within our homeostatic limits. Regular electrical impulses are sent within the conduction system of the heart prompting contraction (Marieb, 2015). These electrical signals can be identified and documented by the use of an electrocardiography (ECG) machine. In a familiar ECG recording, three waves will occur; The P wave, QRS complex and ... • 24. Literary Uses Of Literary Devices In Poetry And Language Poetry is known to be a creative thought or impassioned feeling using language and is expressed in many places in the world. A poem can have many different meanings according to how an individual interprets it. Various literary devices are used to bring out that interpretation and the sense of what the person thinks that is going to happen. In the poem Saturday at the Canal by Gary Soto and Nothing Better by The Postal Service the theme is sometimes in life you may go through tough times but it is up to you whether they will continue. Some literary devices that show the coming up from tough times are figurative language, imagery, and the mood of the poems/songs. Figurative language is one literary device that supports the theme of coming back from tough times. In Saturday at the Canal the speaker is in school and is going through a tough life and the teachers were too close to dying to understand (Soto 5 6). This hyperbole is showing how miserable in life the speaker is in that current point using exaggeration and how the speaker wants to change it by heading to San Francisco. The teachers probably were from an older time and could not possibly understand the life of a modern teenager. In Nothing Better the speaker is going through a breakup with his girlfriend and is willing to block the door like a goalie tending the net (The Postal Service 6 7). • 26. Nonverbal Expectance Violation Theory As I researched various theories, the Nonverbal Expectancy Violation Theory stood out to me the most. Neuliep (2015) has described this theory as people holding expectancies about the appropriateness of the nonverbal behaviors of others. The Nonverbal Expectancy Theory (NEV) was formulated by Dr. Judee Burgoon. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) states the basic tenet undergirding NEV theory holds that individuals have expectations of how things will be and how people will behave. Sidelinger and Bolen also states that expectancy refers to what an individual expects or predicts will happen in an interaction. When we make an assumption, we are partaking in expectancies. Burgoon (as cited by Sidelinger and Biolen, 2015) notes that what we expect in an interaction is based on three factors, context, relationship, and communicator characteristics. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) believes that our expectancy can be determined by our environment. For an example, the way I communicate at the playground with my children is different than how I communicate at the grocery store. The expectancy of relationships is based on the connection we have with the person with whom we are interacting with. Finally, Sidelinger and Bolen (2015), states that communicator characteristics refer to the demographics (gender, age, race etc.) of the other in the interaction and additional characteristics such as the other s communication style. Additionally, the perception of how we view someone plays a role in how we expect them to react or interact. If I am playing with a Poodle, I expect it to be fun, playful, and bubbly. If I am playing with a Rottweiler, I expect it to be aggressive and assertive. While these are my expectancy of the dogs it could turn out to be the opposite of my assumption. There are two types of expectancies. Predictive and prescriptive. Offering a counterpoint to this perspective is nonverbal expectancy violations theory, which posits that violating social norms and expectations may sometimes be a superior strategy to conformity in achieving such communication outcomes as attraction, credibility, helping behavior, and persuasion, Burgoon and Aho,; Burgoon, Coker, and Coker, Burgoon and Hale; Burgoon and Jones; Burgoon, ... • 37. Case Study Of Facebook Facebook Case Study In November 2007, social media giant, Facebook pushed the limit of online marketing by introducing a controversial marketing ploy, the Beacon tool. Using Beacon to track user browsing data and purchases from partner sites, Facebook then broadcast this information to the user s network. The tool immediately drew criticism from the online community, claiming violation of privacy and breach of user agreement by the company. The moral issue of the case centers on privacy concerns of the new online advertising tool, Beacon, which is embedded into a Facebook partner s website (e.g. Blockbuster, Overstock, and The New York Times). The tool recorded a Facebook user s Internet activity and transmitted this activity back to Facebook, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one s past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book Odds Against Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experience come to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be encountered after one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The pieces performed included John Williams Midway March, Grieg Morning from Peer Gynt, Grieg In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt, John Williams Theme from Jurassic Park, Adolphus Hailstork Epitaph For a Man Who Dreamed (In Memoriam: Martin Luther King Jr.), Copland Hoe Down from Rodeo, Anderson Blue Tango, and John Williams Superman March. The park was an open, grassy area where the public sat on the ground around the stage to listen. The performers wore white tops and black bottoms, giving them a professional appearance. I think this had more of an emotional effect on me than the first piece because of the gentleness of the music. I like the balance between the stringed instruments and the band. It was easier to appreciate and to listen to each individual instrument rather than listening to them all at once. Grieg In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt The piece began with the celloists and bassists plucking their strings, then the violins joined. The dynamic of the first half was moderately loud. The rhythm picks up and the beat is faster and louder with the repetition of the plucking by the same instruments. As the piece concludes, the tempo speeds up quickly and the dynamic of forte was present, ending in a sudden stop. My initial reaction to this piece was that it gave off a creepy and mysterious vibe. The plucking of the stringed instruments felt as though we were tiptoeing through a horror story. When the tempo got faster, I felt the suspense and my heart racing. I enjoyed the abrupt stop at the end of the piece because it was unexpected considering how fast the music was going and was a pleasant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Employees were unhappy with their state of work and the manners in which they were laid off. As one company made sweeping cuts in the hopes of saving money, others followed suit. FastServe Inc. is a $25M, 350 person company involved in the direct marketing of branded sports apparel. • 41. Medical History Research Paper Many drugs commonly used today are of herbal origin. There is Archaeological evidence indicating use of herbs and plants for medicinal purposes dating back 60,000 years. It was the learning from our ancestors that yielded the development of medicine as it is known today. Yet modern medicine is favored, by the majority, over herbs and plants provided by nature. A role reversal has occurred. Can modern medicine and natural medicine effectively coexist? In 1960, a Neanderthal was discovered buried with eight different types of plants; some of these are still used in medicine today. It is this discovery that suggests our history of medicine, by way of plants, has been unfolding for thousands of years (Medicinal Botany). Much knowledge was gained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Albeit, marketing in the United States has a grave influence on the choice for synthetic drugs. It has been known by many that the pharmaceutical industry has marketed medicines that do not produce the results based on their claims. In addition, consumers have become increasingly unsettled with the high cost of synthetic medications (Spilsbury 14 19). It is a combination of these factors and others that are leading Americans back to their roots of natural healing medicine. As with synthetic medicines, traditional plant medicine has its own handicap. Without regulation of natural medicines, consistency of plant potency, efficacy, toxicity and safety are ambiguous. Consumers may falsely assume the natural products are safe (Lewis 186.) As mentioned earlier, synthetic drugs usually contain a single component extracted from a plant source. The original plant is complex in nature and consists of various naturally occurring chemicals. Therefore, understanding any negative side effects from treatment of the primary plant source would be more complicated. Modern medicine is scientifically based and ... • 42. The Assassin The Assassin Short Story He just lay there, on the wet ground, for hours. He looked as though he was just casually waiting and that it was perfectly normal to lie on the ground. After a few hours it started to rain heavily, though this did not discourage him in the slightest as he just carried on lying there, looking comfortable and content. Once in a while a car would drive along the lonely road and the people inside would stare in his direction but the long grass hid him. He had a serious frown and thin, pursed lips with a protruding jaw. Whilst lying there in the rain he chain smoked a cigarette, carefully putting the buts in his pocket to ensure no evidence was left, and watched the view ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He looked at his own, and saw that there was no signal and then looked up and saw that she was trying again. A frustrated expression appeared on her face. Soon after she got back in the car to shelter from the rain. A little while later, she got out and started to run towards the house, the rain thrashing against her body. She accidentally ran into a puddle and tripped, but dragged herself up and carried on running. When she got near the porch, she stopped to take a look at the house. After a minute or two, she walked towards the entrance to the house, her hair by now plastered to the side of her face. As she reached the door, she paused, just as he knew she would. She turned the doorknob and stepped inside, and then he pounced, hitting her in the back of the head with one single shot. He walked up when she was on the floor and shot her again to ensure that she was dead. The walls were painted with her deep red blood, and her splintered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Social Hierarchy In The Middle Ages Middling Problems Kings are the ones who lead and conquer. Lords are the ones who rule and sit barking orders to the lower classes. Knights are the ones who follow their code of honor, chivalry at its finest. Peasants are the ones who work until their bodies give out just to provide for their family. These are words that depicted the social hierarchy during the Middle Ages or rather, the Dark Ages. An age where not everyone is given the chance to elevate to a new status, where the oppressed stays oppressed while the aristocrats sits in their fine houses and live lavishly. But...only the men get to exercise their power, as the women during this period lay dormant, sitting in their chairs as if they were just glorified display pieces showcased by their husbands for all to see. It s even worse if they were peasants, as they were only expected to give childbirth and care for the family while working out in the fields. Meanwhile, in the current period, everyone is given a chance to increase their standing in life. Blood inheritance holds little to no meaning anymore, only skill and talent will let you prosper in life. This sounds like a good thing, but for me it feels like no change has happened at all. ... Peasants keep complaining and complaining about their situation, yet they do not do anything about it. That s because of Manorialism. They depend too much on their lords for food and lodging. • 44. Diversity Field Report 92 BLX The Beat of The Bay. This is DJ Rodsky boomed the radio into my preschool classroom at St. Mary Catholic School. My best friend Emani s dad was featured on the radio that morning, and my teacher let the whole class tune in. While in may seem like an odd occurrence to listen to a rap station in a preschool setting, it highlights the attitude towards diversity that shaped my formative education. Instead of the hand picked, curated diversity that sometimes plagues schools, this encounter demonstrates the raw, unalderterated diversity that kindles appreciation for all races, genders, backgrounds, or affiliations without any reservations. This unique experience from such a young age paints a clear memory in my mind that denotes that diversity is important because it gives people a new perspective on life. People that move through life totally unaffected by the reality of diversity, sheltered from the harmless encroachment on their social organization, lack the ability to be able to fully understand people from different backgrounds or races that they meet in the real world. Being exposed to diversity in all forms at a young age helps develop in people humility, compassion, consideration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People that do not experience diversity are ill equipped to handle real life diversity because they have never learned how to deal with it.
