3. Introduction to Inguinal region
• Inguinal region lies at the junction of anterior
abdominal wall and anterior aspect of thigh.
• Extent—between anterior superior iliac spine and the
pubic tubercle.
• Clinically the Inguinal region include area along and
around the inguinal ligament.
• This region is important both anatomically and
clinically.
• Anatomical importance—this region is gateway
through which structures pass to and fro from
abdominal cavity into thigh.
• Clinical importance—these routes are potential sites of
herniation which are very common in this region.
