This document discusses opportunities for academic experts and institutions to engage with and contribute to Wikipedia. It notes that certain science and technical topics are underrepresented on Wikipedia due to lack of reliable sources and references. It encourages contributions that address gaps, add reliable sources and structured data, and donate open educational resources. Engaging with Wikipedia can help disseminate knowledge while incentives like credit and recognition can encourage expert participation. Challenges include learning community norms and avoiding conflicts of interest.

Recently he read an article that referenced that Wikimedia finds it particularly
challenging to get University Faculty to participate. He has some specific
interest in possible drafting some legislation to make participation a
requirement for tenure.
