  5. Intro Thank you for inviting us to this year’s Volunteer & Community NCVO Conference. Icebreaker We’re going to hang out for ten minutes Who likes dogs? Who likes cats? Who likes both? Brilliant. Research shows that dog & cat ownership is beneficial to your health and wellbeing but also looking at dogs and cats reduces your stress levels and release endorphins so this ten minute presentation is actually going to be good for your wellbeing So not only are we here to share about my experiences and some brief reflections on about Battersea’s experience of Investing in Volunteers Some of the challenges The journey How it has made us think about all our processes and ultimately is our volunteers time is well spent And do our volunteers have smooth and enjoyable journey for volunteers from enquiry to exit.

  7. We also have a lot of fun We work and volunteer with our beneficiaries We are cause driven Staff and volunteers are united by that cause

Making the decision Get early buy in by selling it to your directors So many benefits Good for the volunteer programme Good for volunteers to feel they are part of something really professional Good developmental opportunity for your staff Include on business plan. Not cheap but you do get 10% off for being NCVO members
  9. Involve your whole team Tell your entire organisation – it’s hard to not do it if you’ve told everyone Involve your volunteers Keep in mind that not everyone starts from ground zero - some staff have built up considerable knowledge and experience about what works and doesn’t work but when you ask them to explain or document a process may feel they’re being checked upon. While some are very enthusiastic Make time Regularly update everyone on the progress that’s being made Celebrate the success when you have reviewed and updated a process or policy.
