Samurai Influence On Japanese Culture
A samurai is a warriors of Japan. Samurai employed a range of weapons such as bows and
arrows, spears and guns, but their main weapon and symbol was the sword. Samurai first appeared
in Japan as early as the eighth century c.e., but they truly rose to power in the eleventh century.
They alone had the privilege of wearing two swords, they married only among their own class, and
they passed their privileges on to their children. Samuraiwere dressed for speed and travel.
The Bushido held restrictions on the Samurai, prohibiting them to do many things and to live a
very honest life. This is not only good for Samurai, but for everyone as it will make each who
follows a truer person.

Each of the religions had a different role, Buddhism dealt with war and death, Shintoism with
inherited ambience, and Confucianism dealt with ethics.
Katana and wakizashi are the two weapons they use, katana curve of the sword makes it so
when it is Drawn you can slash the person instantly, but with a straight sword you couldn t, so
that s why they changed to curved swords, and the wakizashi were used when in indoor areas
with low ceilings, because the Samurai Sword would be too long to be used in combat in those
areas and would be impossible, so therefore they used the Wakizashi as a secondary weapon just in
case.
The samurai were a military class of elite warriors in Japanese history who promoted education and
influenced Japanese culture. Samurai lived by bushido, or the way of the warrior, meaning they
adhered to a code of honor and courageousness. The samurai embraced self discipline, mindfulness,
ethics and intelligence. They were known for their katanas, or samurai swords, which symbolized

Essay on Medieval Art
In the art world, the medieval periods were traditionally though to be the unproductive phase of
Europe between the decline of Rome and the Renaissance. Our modern feelings toward medieval
art are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which
was also a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the art
found from medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the Middle
Agescan be divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which
ranged from 400 to 800 A.D. and was important in metal work. Carolingian art ranged from 750 to
987 A.D. overlapping 50 years of the Celto Germanic period. The period of... Show more content on

A major difference between the two was that Carolingian architects used stone only for important
buildings such as churches and castles. Their buildings and plans for unfinished buildings show
that a major factor in Carolingian architecture was length. This was both appealing to the eye and
practical, leaving room for extra altars and separate entries. The Carolingian style is of small
dimensions. Most of this style pulls its influence from Byzantine artwork. An explanation for the
sudden change from Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the new minuscule form of
writing, remarkable for its clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this time period is rare
although writings tell us that goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active.
Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and
fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural
advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis
on emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more
religious and revolutionary imagery. Examples of Romanesque sculpture are dated back to the last
decade of the eleventh century and then first decades of the twelfth. The primary source of artistic
patronage was provided by the monastic

The Time Value of Money
Purpose of the Report The purpose of this report is to discuss the time value of money, and
illustrate that I understand the concept. First, there will be an explanation of the key concepts of
time value of money, including why it is important to know what these concepts are and how they
are applied to the real world. The report will also contain several calculations made using present
and future value tables. The calculations illustrate that not only do I understand the concepts but
that I can apply them to mathematical computations. 1. The time value of money is a concept that
reflects that money changes value over time. The primary factor that causes this change is
inflation. Essentially, as the result of inflation money received in the future is not worth as much
as money received today (Carther, 2012). Simply, one cannot buy as much with a future dollar as
one can buy with a dollar today. The time value of money concept is applied to finance to allow
people to gain a more accurate reflection of the value of future cash flows. 2. It is important for
financial managers to understand the concept of the time value of money. There are a few reasons
for this. The first is that financial planners deal with future cash flows. These include things like
interest bearing investments, but also the future value of accounts that their customers will have. It
is imperative that financial planners have a good sense of how their strategies will affect their
customers, and

Improving Open Space of Chicago s Chinatown Open space serves recreational areas for
residents and helps to enhance the environmental and aesthetic quality of neighborhoods.
National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) indicates that the typical park and recreation
agency has 9.6 acres of parkland for per 1,000 residents and even the lower quartile of the rate is
still 4.6. NPPA also recommend 4 acres per 1,000 as a standard. However, the Chinatown only has
2.5 acres of park space per 1,000 residents, which is much lower than the typical and recommended
standard. Additionally, there is no City owned vacant lots available within the community. The

What Are Personal Afflictions That Affect The Elderly
Afflictions that affect the elderly often impair the memory, which can make it difficult to
maintain consistency with personal affairs. Elderly people who don t have a good support
system from family and friends can end up behind on payments, miscalculate their finances, and
forget to schedule appointments. This leads to a lot of stress, especially if the person has severe
memory issues but refuses to live in a place that could provide consistent care. For people who
aren t ready to relinquish their freedom and privacy, there are agencies that specialise in
assisting with elderly personal affairs. The individuals who work for these agencies go through
special background checks so that clients can feel safe and secure sharing private information. It

cost volume profit analysis
Question 2
Cost Volume Profit Analysis
1.0 Introduction
According to Jon Scheumann a successful organizations need a culture that is attuned to cost
management and pay attention to cost structure
From that statement manager must pay attention and carefully thinking when do decision making
to the cost. For example when manager want to target the profit. They must take every cost that
related in production such as variable cost and fix costs.
Cost Volume profit analysis is used in decisions making in a company. The reasons why used cost

So when the firm done correctly to identify fixed and variable cost, it can do CVP analysis
correctly and manager can used the correct CVP analysis to make decision making.
2. In graph Cost are in straight line
Assume that fixed cost no change in any of range. Variable Cost is proportional and parallel to
the line revenue. So in the reality cost of behaviour not remain constant. It mean when we do
CVP analysis we must assume a straight line (constants) so when do a calculation it easy to
calculate the cost and make analysis. For example if we see in graph the cost is curve line it hard
to calculate the cost if the cost is out of range from the graph. So that why we must assume in
straight line so it easy to calculate and identify the cost even it out of range in graph.
3. Price is fixed for every volume was purchase/selling ( selling price/direct material)
When buy a lot of item, item we buy was offering/make a discount. These make a problem to
determine contribution margin ratio. Example normally when we buy/sell a lot of item we can
receive/give discount. Event we know that it hard to calculate when price always changes base on
the quantity item of we buy/sell. So in order to make easy calculation we must make assumption
fixed price every volume was purchase and selling and ignore the cost that give effect the change in
price and volume.
4. Variable cost is fix per unit not calculated based on volume produce
So when it calculated per unit it hard to

Native American Women In Early America
Even at the very beginning of America, Artists would paint the Native American s women in
such a way to attracted more people to come over and explore this new world, and maybe to find
these exotic women in the forest. As more and more people came over, along with more success
in starting colonies women were given more power in the new world then back at home. European
women, in the beginning, were outnumbered by the males and this was the beginning of uprising of
power for women. European women were not the first group of women to gain more power in
society. Native American women already had more freedom than European women had originally.

Original Sin, in short was the story on how Adam and Eve got kick out of the Garden by eating
the apple. If we continue to look into English religion, God create men first, then create women
for the men. Native American had a different idea on how we were created. The Iroquois
creation story believed that a woman came from Heaven and a tortoise back was the land we
live on. A spirit saw that the woman was lonely and give her three children, two sons and one
daughter. The daughter became the mother of the Iroquois people. The Iroquois saw women as
the creator of the world and their nation, which is the complete opposite of what English
believed. Instead of women being seen as weak, Native American women were essential to group
survival for they were gatherers of the group. They daily life included finding food, nurturers to
the children, and processes of community decision. Women in Native American society were not
seen as equals through. Looking at the two paintings of Native Americans working on farm land
by Joseph Francois Lafitau and Theodor de Bry. Both were European artist that depict Native
American women gatherers and work at home. In Theodor de Bry painting he paints women
planting seeds, as the men work the field to make the land suitable to grow plants. In Joseph
Francois Lafitau painting it shows men working the field while women plant seeds again, but it also
shows women gatherer sap from trees to make syrup. Women were not equal to men in Native
American society, but they had many more rights than European women. In John White painting of
Native Americans religious ritual, it shows Native American women preforming a ritual among
males. In some cases women served as the mediators between humans and supernatural powers. The
only time women were able to pick their husband in early America was Chesapeake. As mention

Essay On The Color Purple
The Color Purple written by Alice Walker is based on a society that is rather segregated when it
comes to their differences. Due to this segregation, the perspective of one group viewing another
may be rather skewed, causing them to be stereotyped into certain social structures. The novel is
written in first person point of view, meaning that the reader gets one particular character s
version of the story. Due to this, the reader is introduced to the story through a perspective that
does not fully understand different social groups aside from her own in society as well as
different societies as a mass. One of the most prominent examples of social groups being
represented in a certain way relates to the roles of women in society. Throughout... Show more

This includes the stereotypical white women in church that believe they are better than those
around them and are judgemental of those who aren t like them. However, there are also
characters such as Shug and Celie that believe in a different type of god. While the white
women most likely believe in god, the man, Shug and Celie end up believing in god, the force.
Christians are typically portrayed as individuals similar to the white women, however the novel
tends to break that barrier when Shug explains her beliefs to Celie through the quote Here s the
thing, say Shug. The thing I believe. God is inside you and inside everybody else. You come into
the world with God. But only them that search for it inside find it. And sometimes it just manifest
itself even if you not looking, or don t know what you looking for. (Walker 196) This religious
strength shows in Celie immediately, as she feels freer that she s not constantly being watched
over by a man s presence. This, blatant contrast is meant to convey the message that Christian
beliefs are not the same for everyone, and believing in god does not mean you are set to that certain

Essay on Reflecting on the Dead
Reflecting on the Dead
In Katherine Mansfield s The Garden Party and in D.H. Lawrence s Odour of Chrysanthemums,
two women were in a situation where death was literally at their feet. In The Garden Party, Laura
finds herself contemplating the dead body of Mr. Scott, a man of lower class who lived at the
bottom of the hill from her house. In Odour of Chrysanthemums, Elizabeth finds herself
contemplating the dead body of her husband, Walter. Although the relationships these women
shared with the dead men were completely opposite, they both had striking similarities in the ways
that they handled the situation. Both women ignored the feelings of the families of the deceased,

Obviously this was not a concern with the overall well being of her children. It was merely a way
to prevent the shock of seeing their dead father before they have been told of his passing.
Furthermore, the mother in law was also denied any sympathy from Elizabeth. Although Elizabeth
acknowledged the mother in law moaning (Mansfield 2327) in her grief, she never expressed
concern for the mother in law s well being. She was so caught up in her own feelings that she
failed to consider her family. Although the family of the deceased was Elizabeth s family and Laura
had no relation to Mr. Scott or his family, both women showed only concern for themselves and no
one else.
In the presence of the dead men, Laura and Elizabeth never referred to the deceased by their
names. In The Garden Party, Laura didn t call Mr. Scott by his name. Throughout the story he
was just referred to as the man . When Laura was standing over Mr. Scott, she still thought of
him as a young man and simply him (Mansfield 2433). Despite Laura s concern over his death,
he was still of a lower class than her and not a part of her upper class world. The cottages around
where Mr. Scott and his family lived were described as disgusting and sordid, and Laura used the
word creature (Mansfield 2429) when referring to the widow and her sister. This suggests that she
felt that Mr. Scott and his family were not thought of as people with names. To Laura they were
creatures who

of the 1930 s and the spotlight focused on the middle and lower classes as the bearers of the
American spirit. Young men who had served in the war returned to their families and were ready

the role of the man in the house, Stanley is not willing to allow Stella to get a job and contribute
to paying bills because of his old fashioned mindset and how he wants to be the supporter for his
family. Another writer also states that Stella is not always the amazing sister that the reader

she cannot give up her sexual attraction fulfillment with Stanley...It is Stella s decision not to

The Fabrication And Modification Of T Cuas With Cellulose...
2.1 Fabrication and Modification of T CUAs with Cellulose Acetate (CA) Membrane and
Chitosan Gold Nanoparticles (CS GNPs). T CUAs. Preparation of the T CUAs follows
previously described procedures.[references] Briefly, the fabrication consist of dropcasting
polystyrene spheres (PSS) of a diameter of 1.54 Вµm onto a conductive carbon pyrolized
photoresist film (PPF) electrode.[references] In a collaboration with the Stevenson group, we
have reported a method for detecting H2O2 using T CUAs.[reference] We introduce two
modifications to T CUAs: (1) the addition of a cellulose acetate (CA) gas permeable membrane
selective to NO and (2) the introduction of chitosan and gold nanoparticles (CS/GNPs) to
enhance its catalytic activity, sensitivity, and limit of detection (LOD) to NO. The schematic of

Variola Essay
Variola virus belongs to the genus Orthopoxvirus, the members of which cause skin lesions in
mammals. The infection with this virus caused several different patterns of illness, ranging from
the classic vesiculopustular exanthem to rapidly lethal disease lacking the typical rash, indicating
that these clinical variants were significantly determined by host factors.
One of the most intriguing questions in the evolution of the orthopoxviruses is the origin of variola
virus, which may have killed as many as 300 million people over the centuries. Genomic studies of
a set of variola virus isolates have shown the patterns of phylogenetic relationships between
geographic variants of this highly patoghenic virus.

Almost one half of these patients had a disease type where pocks were sufficiently low in number

from approximately 10% for discrete disease to almost 30% for confluent disease. In fatal cases,
hypotension and fever progressed to steadily worsening shock.
Clinical descriptions of the disease indicate that smallpox always had a high case fatality rate until

The Purpose of Thornbury Castle Essay
The Purpose of Thornbury Castle Thornbury castle Since Thornbury castle started being built in

features that would confuse you in deciding what Thornbury castle was built for. There are lots of

people? Then in the outer court there is a wide open space which may have been meant to for a

The Best Kind of Sex Education
There is much controversy over which form of sex education should be taught, comprehensive sex
education, or abstinence only sex education. The definition for comprehensive sex education is
responsible and balanced sexuality education that seeks to assist young people in understanding a
positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about caring for their sexual
health, and help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future. It is medically
accurate and provides information about abstinence and contraceptives as tools to prevent
unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. On the other hand, abstinence only sex
educationis a form of sex education that teaches abstinence from sex. This type of sex education
promotes sexual abstinence until marriage and avoids discussion of use of contraceptives.
Comprehensive sex education goes against some family morals and encourages teenagers to have
sex. But abstinence only sex education does not teach students enough about sex or how to protect
themselves from STDs and pregnancy. Comprehensive sex education should be mandatory in all of
our nation s schools.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, sex education was strongly effected by Victorian values.
Sex education at that time taught that sexually transmitted diseases were the result of punishment

Adding Technology into the Classrooms of Huntsville...
Recently the school board in the Huntsville Independent School District decided that it would be
a great idea to jump into the twenty first century and add technology into the classrooms. The
members of the school board have read articles like Why Integrate Technology into the
Curriculum?: The Reasons Are Many , which tell why it would be a great idea to add technology
into the classroom as well as articles like In Classroom of Future, Stagnant Scores , which talks
about all of the new ways to learn with technology. The one thing that both of these articles as well
as any article you will find both for and against technology in the classroom say that when making

Joe Whitehead, the teacher of the course have said that they are willing to teach the teachers
what they know. This is why I propose that during the summer the teachers have to go to a one
week training program were Mr. Whitehead and his A+ certified students can teach the teachers
the basics of figuring out what the problem is and start to fix the problem. This way the teachers
can start fixing the problem while they are waiting for one of the five students to come and finish
fixing whatever the problem may be, this will cut down on some of the time it takes to fix the
issue. This solution is a cost effective way to start chipping away at the wasted time. For teachers
who want to learn how to completely find, isolate and fix the technical issue the work shop could
be a month long but only mandate the teachers to attend the first week when the basics are being
taught.
Now that the teachers can start fixing their own technical issues the 25 minutes will be shorter. The
next problem is setting up/knowing how to use the technology. During the mandatory week of
training you can bring in students to teach the teachers how to use this technology. It would only
coast the school some pizza, chips, and soda and fixes two problems. Students complain about
teachers not understating what it is like to be a student and sit in a boring class , and teachers
complain that the students do not understand what it is like to get up in front of a class to teach.

Animal Transport System
Effective transport systems in multicellular plants and animals, although with apparent differences,
have similarities as they all possess a system of vessels in which substances are transported, a
driving mechanism to ensure that substances move in the correct direction and importantly, a
suitable transport medium.
What is transport medium and which chemicals are carried around your body? (Make sure you are
talking about main ones and their form)
Blood is the fluid transport that flows through the heart and blood vessel of the cardiovascular
system in vertebrates. Blood distributes heat around the body, as well as the nutrients and gases
required by the body and the wastes to be excreted from the body. It also carries other chemicals
such as hormones, glucose, and oxygen for aerobic respiration, antibodies to fight infections,
clotting factors and many other substances required by the body to function efficiently.

These two systems both possess the heart as the core mechanism, a fluid that transports substances
and a system of vessels. The function of the transport system in animals is to deliver nutrients and
gases to the cell and to collect and remove wastes. With the movement of the blood around the
body, the composition of blood cells and plasma remain relatively the same but the concentration of
dissolved substances and gases change depending on the organ it s passing through. There are a
number of notable differences, but the most important is that a closed circulatory system has the
transport fluid surrounded within the system of vessels at all times. However, in an open
circulatory system, the transport fluid leaves the vessels, enters cavities in the body and come in
direct contact with the organs. Overall, open circulatory systems are not as efficient as closed stems
because the fluid pressure is low, causing the transport fluid to circulate

Spoonful Of Sugar Figurative Language
My first song that I chose is Spoonful of Sugar. I chose the song Spoonful of Sugar because it
had a lot of figurative language words in it. Also because I like that song. The lyrics in this song
are In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun, you find the fun and snap, the jobs

chose that song because it uses a lot of figurative language, and it is a fun song. The lyrics in

A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Essence Magazine
For my rhetorical analysis I decided to get my advertisement out of the Essence Magazine. The
magazine was issued during December in the year of 2011. The advertisement is also on page 22
23. My advertisement is from well known store called Jcpenny. In this advertisement Jcpenny is
having a Christmas sale. The author of this ad uses different techniques to persuade you to buy their
merchandise throughout this advertisement. By the time you finish reading this paper you will
have known how the author used pathos, ethos, and logos to capture your attention.
This magazine and advertisement targets women from 18 to 35 years of age. The advertisement
targets men also of the same age, but due to the title and cover of the magazine, i strangely doubt
a man would see the advertisement unless it was in a different magazine. The reason I believe
this target this targets women of that age is because every women on the cover of the
advertisement is between the age group. Also, the merchandise that is being displayed is things
that women in this age group would generally wear. The reason I say it targets men is because it s
a sale going on and men generally tend to try to save money on holidays. They ... Show more

are the main three colors that symbolize the holiday. Also, throughout the advertisement there

is the majority of the clothing being advertises are things you wear in the winter time around this

Questions On The Energy Infrastructure
Final Examination
Question 1
The Energy infrastructure is comprised of three different segments, electricity, oil and gas; all of
which come together to provide resources to other critical Infrastructures such as the transportation,
communications, IT, finance and other infrastructures depending on them to function (DHS, 2016).
In the U.S., we rely so much on the energy infrastructure because it helps us function and survive.
We spend billions of dollars a year in energy consumption.
Without energy resources, millions of people could get hurt, some die and the economy would be
negatively affected. Our homes, offices and businesses would be left without light, a.c. and gas.
Our transportation system would be crippled, and communications would be almost impossible.
In order to acquire energy products, they have to be explored, refined and transported. What that
means is;
Exploration: This is the initial starting point of energy development. In this sector, oil locations are
found; drills and pipelines are used to absorb these resources which are then converted to other
forms of energy resources such as petroleum, gas, electricity, jet fuel and much more. Most of
these exploration locations are found in remote areas; areas like the Middle East, Mexico, and
Africa, areas hard to get to, in the middle of the sea or where no one would go.
The good thing about exploration is it makes it possible to find new locations and

because some teenager thinks of a weird way to express himself and it sticks. Take it back to the

person or making a person s day. Alternatively, take it back to the 1960s and people are being

Slang is evolving and has become mediocre in everyday life. When a new slang word is created,
it is superlative for seconds because teens are desperate to sound cool and fit in with everyone. It is

Home Depot strategy of stocking 30K items at prices 30% less compare to traditional hardware

Three Types Of Muscle Tissue
The Muscular System
Types of Muscle Tissue
The muscular system is the network that converts energy into motion. Since muscles are essential
to all animals they are incredibly complex. Muscles are able to self heal and with practice, are able
to grow substantially stronger. There are 3 types of muscle tissue found in the human body:
Skeletal Muscle: attached to bones and in most cases are responsible for voluntary movements
Smooth Muscle: responsible for involuntary free flow in vessels and intestines and contain one
nucleus
Cardiac Muscle: involuntary muscle that is similar to smooth muscle and only found in the heart
Each type of muscle has a different structure and plays a different role in the body.
Skeletal Muscles
Skeletal muscles are usually attached to bones and are responsible for voluntary movements
(dancing, shooting a basketball, etc.). Skeletal muscles have light and dark sequential bands that are

Therefore, impulses from motor neurons control the contraction of skeletal muscle fibres.
Neuromuscular junction is the point of contact between a motor neuron and a skeletal muscle cell.
Vesicles located in the axon terminals of the neuron release a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine.
The acetylcholine diffuses across the synapse, producing an impulse in the cell membrane of the
muscular fibre. As a result of the impulse, calcium ions are released within the fibre. These calcium
ions enable the interaction between actin and myosin filaments. Finally when the release of
acetylcholine stops, the muscle cells relax from contraction. An enzyme is produced at the axon
terminal which eradicates any remaining acetylcholine. The cell then pumps the calcium ions back
into storage and the cross bridges stop forming as contraction

Relationship Between the Muscular System and Its...
Each body part has a specific role within the community of the human body. When working
properly, each system is contributing to maintaining homeostasis as well. The purpose of this essay
is to discuss the relationship between the muscular system and how it contributes to the overall
health and balance of the body it is placed within. The essay will discuss the function of the
muscular system, the organization of the system and how it contributes to homeostasis. The
muscular system is the part of the body that assists with motor function and movement. There are
three types of muscles in the human body that are included within this system. Smooth muscles are
involuntary and are found inside organs such as the stomach and throat. Skeletal muscles are
voluntary and are located everywhere throughout the body. The third type of muscles are cardiac
muscles that are involuntary and keep your heart beating. While most people associate muscles
with strength, they do more than assist in lifting heavy objects. The 650 muscles in the body not
only support movement controlling walking, talking, sitting, standing, eating and other daily
functions that we consciously perform. Muscles also help to maintain posture and circulate blood
and other substances throughout the body, among other functions. Muscles can also be identified
by their function. The flexor group of the forearm flexes the wrist and the fingers. The supinator is

Globalisation Essay
Globalisation argumentative essay
Globalisation is a really widespread topic. There are millions of definitions, opinions,
organisations and perspectives because it concerns the whole world. This essay is a try to give
some information and to explain my view of the issue.
The starting point of globalisation is not defined yet, but most scientists think it started in the
sixteenth century, when the first circumnavigation of the Magellan took place. Though, the first
sentiment of a united world was formed by the establishment of the world time zones. At that time
international communication started as well.

So he has to sell to a corporation which supports him with hybrid seeds where the plant blooms just
one time. After that, new ones have to be replanted. The farmers get addicted to the company and
has no other choice.
One square meter of the rainforest costs 10 cent. Huge faces have been chopped for the plantation
of soy for animal food in Europe. The farmers of these fields have to suffer from hunger and to
drink polluted water.
These are just a few of the (of course true) approaches of the anti capitalism organisations like
ATTAC.
Personally, I think that at the moments the negative effects of globalisation prevail. In an
interview the CEO of NestlГ©, the world s biggest food corporation, Peter Brabeck said that
there are two opinions about the most important raw material water. The first one (and people
who think like that) is really extreme: it says that every human being should have free access to
water. The other (and of course it is his own opinion) is that water is really precious and has to be
sold.
When I hear such statements I think that CEOs of multinational companies should change their
opinions and strategies. The main idea of globalisation is not bad and there are already several
advantages and positive effects. But only for people who live in the first world and get a job in a
corporation. The aim for the next years should be to work out plans how to improve the situation of
poor countries, how they can join the competition and how the

ultimately comparing and contrasting the world of management in US organisations from early

Pryor, MS amp; Taneja, S 2010, Henry Fayol, practitioner and theoretician revered and reviled ,
Journal of Management History, vol. 16, no. 4, pp. 489 503.
The purpose of this paper by Pryor amp; Taneja (2010) is to illustrate through examining
contemporary management and management theories how Fayol s contribution of his principles
and model theory is relevant in management today.
This is done by a process of researching and examining the work of major academics (e.g.
Mintzberg (1989), Porter (1985), Taylor (1947), Kotter (1982), amp; Berdaves (2002)) Pryor and
Taneja (2010) compare the works and ideas of both Fayol and these authors to find the similarities
and differences between their theories.
A limitation of this article may be the large focus of similarities between studies, paying rare
attention to the differences between Fayol and the given management theorist. Future studies on
this issue should be undertaken in an argumentative manner, given equivalent attention to both
aspects of the argument. Indeed; this article supports the conclusions of similar studies (e.g.
Rodrigues, 2001. Archer, 1990. Fells, 2000) that Fayol s theory is relevant today, and that his 5
management functions are evident in all organisations (Hales 1986). Another shared conclusion
between journals is that Fayol s work sets the foundations of management practise and theory today.
Even though Mintzberg (1973) argues differently, his theory tends to

No Clear Link Between TV Violence and Aggression Essay
No Clear Link Between Television Violence and Aggression
There is a great deal of speculation on the role of television violence in
childhood aggression. Research demonstrates there may be other intervening
variables causing aggression. These variables include IQ, social class, parental
punishment, parental aggression, hereditary, environmental, and modeling. With
all of these factors to taken into consideration it is difficult to determine a
causal relationship between television violence and aggression. It is my

Subjects in the aggression condition reproduced a good deal of physical and
verbal aggressive behavior resembling that of the models. The data clearly
confirmed the prediction that exposure of subjects to aggressive models
increases the probability of aggressive behavior (Bandura et al. 1961). Another
study sought to determine the extent to which film mediated aggressive models
may serve as an important source of imitative behavior. Children were divided
and then exposed to four different aggression models. A real life aggression
condition, a human film aggression condition, a cartoon film aggression
condition, and a control group. The results showed that exposure to humans on
film portraying aggression was the most influential in eliciting aggressive
behavior. Subjects in this condition, in comparison to the control subjects,
exhibited more aggression and more imitative aggression. Subjects who viewed
the aggressive human and cartoon models on film exhibited almost twice as much
aggression as subjects in the control group. These results provide strong
evidence that exposure to filmed aggression heightens aggressive reactions in
children (Bandura et al. 1963a). These results add to the conclusion that
viewing violent television produces aggressive behavior.

Paul s Behavior At School Case Study
Paul s behavior at school comes under reproach when his teachers ostensibly organize an
interrogation. Paul confidently answers his teachers criticisms for his demeanor, disdain for their
efforts, and even how he chooses to adorn his outfit with a red carnation, and is eventually
released despite the loathing of his teachers. He joyfully heads to Carnegie Hall for his shift as an
usher. It is here where Paul escapes the monotony of his life; he finds refuge in his livened senses
the sounds of the symphonies, the lights, the feeling of life. Yet he must return to his strangulated
home of Cordelia Street, a place he naturally detested for its homogeneity, and a place that
motivated him to his great escape. After stealing bank notes and checks... Show more content on

Her in depth descriptions of people and ideas illuminated the story. It made me feel as though I
had to keep up; I couldn t rest or relax my attention for fear of the story leaving me. She also
seemed to involve all of Paul s senses to add emphasis, both to describe his likes and dislikes.
For example, when portraying Paul s reactions to his mundane home, she wrote, the loathing of
respectable beds, (touch) of a house penetrated by common foods, (smell) colorless mass of every
day existence (sight), and of Paul s trip to New York, she wrote, ... the chatter, the perfumes, the
bewildering medley of color he had, for a moment, the feeling of not being able to stand it. (Sound,

The Negative Effects Of Air Pollution In China
In recent years, air pollution has become a growing problem in China (Zhang, Chao). According
to the newly released scientific paper by Dan Levin, Outdoor air pollution contributes to the
deaths of an estimated 1.6 million people in China every year, or about 4,400 people a day
(Levin, Dan). Essentially, air is a major part of our overall health. However, people (including
ourselves), especially living in developed countries, suffer from the exposure of air pollution. This
potentially puts our health at risk. It causes various negative effects to our body that in worst cases
leads to death. Air pollutionaffects our health in multiple ways; as it varies from minimal to
serious problems. The air pollutants have negative effects on our cardiovascular system, causing
many fatalities as well as diseases to those specifically in China. People can protect themselves
from the suffrage of cardiovascular diseases by being cautious with what they are surrounded by.
With the rapid industrialization and urbanization in China, air pollution has become a major
issue. China is a popular country in the world known for its pollution and population. Air
pollution was defined as, contamination of air by smoke and harmful gases such as oxides of
carbon, sulfur and nitrogen (Mishra,Sundeep). As China becomes more industrialized with
buildings and factories, pollution increases and causes environmental, as well as health problems.
According to an article by Chao Zhang, he associates the cardiovascular mortality rate and air
pollution in Hefei, China; he analyzes, The characteristics of air pollution in different regions vary
depending on the level of industrialization and other factors (Zhang, Chao). Hefei, the capital city
of Anhui province, was also a part of the urbanization and industrial expansion, which also
increased serious air pollution (Zhang, Chao). The dramatic increasing of automobiles in the past
few years also damaged the air quality in China, being the reasoning for multiple cardiovascular
diseases and damages. The cardiovascular system is critical in our bodies. Without the
cardiovascular system, our body would not be supplied with the substances needed to stay alive
(Anand, Mahindra). It consists of the

The Problem And Its Background Essay
CHAPTER 1
The Problem and Its Background
Introduction
Diabetes is a systemic disease caused by a decrease in the secretion of insulin or reduced
sensitivity or responsiveness to insulin by target tissue. (Beale, et al., 2011) The incidence of
diabetes is growing rapidly in the United States and worldwide. An estimated 347 million people
around the world are afflicted with diabetes. (Whalen, et al., 2012) According to World Health
Organization (WHO), Diabetes prevalence among adults over 18 years of age has risen from
4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. It is the major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke
and limbic amputation. World Health Organization (WHO) projects that diabetes will be the 7th
leading cause of death in 2030. It is a complex and costly disease that can affect nearly every organ
in the body and result in devastating consequences. The leading cause of non traumatic lower
extremity amputations, renal failure, and blindness in working age adults, diabetes is also a major
cause of premature mortality, stroke, cardiovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, congenital
malformations, perinatal mortality, and disability. (Cefalu, 2000) Insulintherapy and oral
hypoglycemic agents have demonstrated improvement in glycaemic control. However, Insulin
therapy has some disadvantages such as ineffectiveness following oral administration, short shelf
life, of the need for constant refrigeration, and fatal hypoglycaemia, in the event of excess dosage.

Bilingualism In Canada Essay
Despite being an officially bilingual country, the most prominent language used in Canada is
English. Just under a quarter of the country s population speaks French most of whom live in
Quebec.
Bottom line for visitors unless you are travelling to less touristy and more remote parts of Quebec,
understanding only English is good enough to navigate around Canada. Of course, if you are visiting
Quebec, especially outside Montreal, knowing some key French travel phrases is helpful, not to
mention courteous.
Canada as a country has two official languages: English and French. This means that all federal
services, policies and laws must be enacted and available in both French and English. Some
common examples of Canadian bilingualism that visitors encounter are road signs, TV and radio,
product packaging, and bus and tour groups. However, the status of English and French as Canada
s official languages does not mean that both languages are widely spoken across the country or that
every Canadian is bilingual. Canadian bilingualism is more ... Show more content on

Non French speaking visitors to Quebec can also easily get by in Quebec City; however, once you
get off the beaten track, French tends to be the language spoken, so study up or get a phrase book.
Looking at Canada about 22% of Canadians use French as their first language (Statistics Canada,
2006). Most the country s French speaking population lives in Quebec, but other high
concentrations of French speakers live in New Brunswick, northern Ontario and Manitoba.
The mother tongue of about 60% of Canada s population is English (Statistics Canada, 2006).
French is not required learning at school outside of Quebec. However French immersion is a
popular choice of education mostly in central and eastern Canada where elementary students who
are enrolled in French immersion schools use French at school either partially or

Application Of A Desktop Study
Desktop Study
A desktop study, as its name implies, can be done entirely from a computer and is often the first
step in preliminary site investigations. The process of a desktop study involves correlating
background information about the site that will affect the design and construction; from a desk
study a large amount of relevant information can be gathered, such as: local context (i.e. what is
near to the site, the aesthetic of the surrounding buildings); archaeology (beneath the surface of a
site there may be unexploded bombs, remnants of old structures etc.); easements (the rights attached
to neighbouring lands, for example right to light); the likelihood of contaminated soil (which we
know we do have on our site); site ecology (the surrounding environment and how it coexists
together). Having this knowledge of the site before any work has begun allows for easier planning
later as obstacles that could have been a costly surprise later can be solved with much better
efficiency.
The process of a desktop study could also involve looking at OS (ordnance survey) maps of the site
which can reveal the previous usage of the site as well as drainage and much more. Geological
maps can show what the ground conditions are like on site and if there is any risk of, for
example, subsidence occurring or if it already has. Service maps can be inspected to find hidden
services, for example telephone cables or drainage. The findings of previous surveys, if they exist,
can also be found

  • 3. Essay on Medieval Art In the art world, the medieval periods were traditionally though to be the unproductive phase of Europe between the decline of Rome and the Renaissance. Our modern feelings toward medieval art are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which was also a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the art found from medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the Middle Agescan be divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which ranged from 400 to 800 A.D. and was important in metal work. Carolingian art ranged from 750 to 987 A.D. overlapping 50 years of the Celto Germanic period. The period of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A major difference between the two was that Carolingian architects used stone only for important buildings such as churches and castles. Their buildings and plans for unfinished buildings show that a major factor in Carolingian architecture was length. This was both appealing to the eye and practical, leaving room for extra altars and separate entries. The Carolingian style is of small dimensions. Most of this style pulls its influence from Byzantine artwork. An explanation for the sudden change from Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the new minuscule form of writing, remarkable for its clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this time period is rare although writings tell us that goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active. Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis on emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more religious and revolutionary imagery. Examples of Romanesque sculpture are dated back to the last decade of the eleventh century and then first decades of the twelfth. The primary source of artistic patronage was provided by the monastic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Time Value of Money Purpose of the Report The purpose of this report is to discuss the time value of money, and illustrate that I understand the concept. First, there will be an explanation of the key concepts of time value of money, including why it is important to know what these concepts are and how they are applied to the real world. The report will also contain several calculations made using present and future value tables. The calculations illustrate that not only do I understand the concepts but that I can apply them to mathematical computations. 1. The time value of money is a concept that reflects that money changes value over time. The primary factor that causes this change is inflation. Essentially, as the result of inflation money received in the future is not worth as much as money received today (Carther, 2012). Simply, one cannot buy as much with a future dollar as one can buy with a dollar today. The time value of money concept is applied to finance to allow people to gain a more accurate reflection of the value of future cash flows. 2. It is important for financial managers to understand the concept of the time value of money. There are a few reasons for this. The first is that financial planners deal with future cash flows. These include things like interest bearing investments, but also the future value of accounts that their customers will have. It is imperative that financial planners have a good sense of how their strategies will affect their customers, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Best Kind of Sex Education There is much controversy over which form of sex education should be taught, comprehensive sex education, or abstinence only sex education. The definition for comprehensive sex education is responsible and balanced sexuality education that seeks to assist young people in understanding a positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about caring for their sexual health, and help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future. It is medically accurate and provides information about abstinence and contraceptives as tools to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. On the other hand, abstinence only sex educationis a form of sex education that teaches abstinence from sex. This type of sex education promotes sexual abstinence until marriage and avoids discussion of use of contraceptives. Comprehensive sex education goes against some family morals and encourages teenagers to have sex. But abstinence only sex education does not teach students enough about sex or how to protect themselves from STDs and pregnancy. Comprehensive sex education should be mandatory in all of our nation s schools. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, sex education was strongly effected by Victorian values. This is why I propose that during the summer the teachers have to go to a one week training program were Mr. Whitehead and his A+ certified students can teach the teachers the basics of figuring out what the problem is and start to fix the problem. This way the teachers can start fixing the problem while they are waiting for one of the five students to come and finish fixing whatever the problem may be, this will cut down on some of the time it takes to fix the issue. This solution is a cost effective way to start chipping away at the wasted time. For teachers who want to learn how to completely find, isolate and fix the technical issue the work shop could be a month long but only mandate the teachers to attend the first week when the basics are being taught. Now that the teachers can start fixing their own technical issues the 25 minutes will be shorter. The next problem is setting up/knowing how to use the technology. During the mandatory week of training you can bring in students to teach the teachers how to use this technology. It would only coast the school some pizza, chips, and soda and fixes two problems. Students complain about teachers not understating what it is like to be a student and sit in a boring class , and teachers complain that the students do not understand what it is like to get up in front of a class to teach. ... • 22. Animal Transport System Effective transport systems in multicellular plants and animals, although with apparent differences, have similarities as they all possess a system of vessels in which substances are transported, a driving mechanism to ensure that substances move in the correct direction and importantly, a suitable transport medium. What is transport medium and which chemicals are carried around your body? (Make sure you are talking about main ones and their form) Blood is the fluid transport that flows through the heart and blood vessel of the cardiovascular system in vertebrates. Blood distributes heat around the body, as well as the nutrients and gases required by the body and the wastes to be excreted from the body. It also carries other chemicals such as hormones, glucose, and oxygen for aerobic respiration, antibodies to fight infections, clotting factors and many other substances required by the body to function efficiently. The function of the transport system in animals is to deliver nutrients and gases to the cell and to collect and remove wastes. With the movement of the blood around the body, the composition of blood cells and plasma remain relatively the same but the concentration of dissolved substances and gases change depending on the organ it s passing through. There are a number of notable differences, but the most important is that a closed circulatory system has the transport fluid surrounded within the system of vessels at all times. However, in an open circulatory system, the transport fluid leaves the vessels, enters cavities in the body and come in direct contact with the organs. Overall, open circulatory systems are not as efficient as closed stems because the fluid pressure is low, causing the transport fluid to circulate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The magazine was issued during December in the year of 2011. The advertisement is also on page 22 23. My advertisement is from well known store called Jcpenny. By the time you finish reading this paper you will have known how the author used pathos, ethos, and logos to capture your attention. This magazine and advertisement targets women from 18 to 35 years of age. Questions On The Energy Infrastructure Final Examination Question 1 The Energy infrastructure is comprised of three different segments, electricity, oil and gas; all of which come together to provide resources to other critical Infrastructures such as the transportation, communications, IT, finance and other infrastructures depending on them to function (DHS, 2016). In the U.S., we rely so much on the energy infrastructure because it helps us function and survive. We spend billions of dollars a year in energy consumption. Without energy resources, millions of people could get hurt, some die and the economy would be negatively affected. Our homes, offices and businesses would be left without light, a.c. and gas. Our transportation system would be crippled, and communications would be almost impossible. In order to acquire energy products, they have to be explored, refined and transported. What that means is; Exploration: This is the initial starting point of energy development. In this sector, oil locations are found; drills and pipelines are used to absorb these resources which are then converted to other forms of energy resources such as petroleum, gas, electricity, jet fuel and much more. Most of these exploration locations are found in remote areas; areas like the Middle East, Mexico, and Africa, areas hard to get to, in the middle of the sea or where no one would go. Since muscles are essential to all animals they are incredibly complex. Muscles are able to self heal and with practice, are able to grow substantially stronger. These calcium ions enable the interaction between actin and myosin filaments. Finally when the release of acetylcholine stops, the muscle cells relax from contraction. An enzyme is produced at the axon terminal which eradicates any remaining acetylcholine. The cell then pumps the calcium ions back into storage and the cross bridges stop forming as contraction ... The essay will discuss the function of the muscular system, the organization of the system and how it contributes to homeostasis. The muscular system is the part of the body that assists with motor function and movement. There are three types of muscles in the human body that are included within this system. Smooth muscles are involuntary and are found inside organs such as the stomach and throat. Skeletal muscles are voluntary and are located everywhere throughout the body. The third type of muscles are cardiac muscles that are involuntary and keep your heart beating. While most people associate muscles with strength, they do more than assist in lifting heavy objects. The 650 muscles in the body not only support movement controlling walking, talking, sitting, standing, eating and other daily functions that we consciously perform. Muscles also help to maintain posture and circulate blood and other substances throughout the body, among other functions. Muscles can also be identified by their function. The farmers of these fields have to suffer from hunger and to drink polluted water. These are just a few of the (of course true) approaches of the anti capitalism organisations like ATTAC. The first one (and people who think like that) is really extreme: it says that every human being should have free access to water. The other (and of course it is his own opinion) is that water is really precious and has to be sold. When I hear such statements I think that CEOs of multinational companies should change their opinions and strategies. The main idea of globalisation is not bad and there are already several advantages and positive effects. But only for people who live in the first world and get a job in a corporation. This is done by a process of researching and examining the work of major academics (e.g. Mintzberg (1989), Porter (1985), Taylor (1947), Kotter (1982), amp; Berdaves (2002)) Pryor and Taneja (2010) compare the works and ideas of both Fayol and these authors to find the similarities and differences between their theories. • 46. Application Of A Desktop Study Desktop Study A desktop study, as its name implies, can be done entirely from a computer and is often the first step in preliminary site investigations. The process of a desktop study involves correlating background information about the site that will affect the design and construction; from a desk study a large amount of relevant information can be gathered, such as: local context (i.e. what is near to the site, the aesthetic of the surrounding buildings); archaeology (beneath the surface of a site there may be unexploded bombs, remnants of old structures etc.); easements (the rights attached to neighbouring lands, for example right to light); the likelihood of contaminated soil (which we know we do have on our site); site ecology (the surrounding environment and how it coexists together). Having this knowledge of the site before any work has begun allows for easier planning later as obstacles that could have been a costly surprise later can be solved with much better efficiency. The process of a desktop study could also involve looking at OS (ordnance survey) maps of the site which can reveal the previous usage of the site as well as drainage and much more. Geological maps can show what the ground conditions are like on site and if there is any risk of, for example, subsidence occurring or if it already has. Service maps can be inspected to find hidden services, for example telephone cables or drainage. The findings of previous surveys, if they exist, can also be found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
