Psycho Movie Analysis
The movie that I chose to do my movie review over is Psycho. In this movie a young woman,
Marion, is having a sexual relationship with this man that she does not know is married to
another woman. Marion works for a company doing the financial needs, and one day she is
given a suitcase that is she is suppose to take to the bank for her boss. She ends up stealing the
money, leaving town and booking her way to see her lover. A few incidences happen to her while
she makes her way to her man, but it is when she gets to the Bates Motelthat things start to get
psychology weird. When she reaches the hotelthere is a man there by the name of Norman Bates.
Norman is not normal at all, he is struggling from a multiperson disorder and inability to know
wrong and right. He tells the Marion that his mother is alive and living in the house but really
she is dead, he had killed her previously. He goes into details to Marion about his relationship
with his dead mother. Marion, is very intrigued and happy to hear what Norman has to say about
his and his mother relationship, but tells Norman she needs to get herself ready for the man she
had come to see. As Marion organizes herself and makes her way to the shower, Norman is in the
hotel office, through a hole in the wall behind a hanging picture, watching her get undressed. He
watches for a solid five minutes before the scene changes to him running at the shower curtain
swinging a knife and killing Marion. During this part of the movie, you

Essay on Jaques Louis David
1. Introduction
Set on a stage of revolution and Enlightenment, the Neo Classical period presents a broad and
interesting topic. Jacques Louis David was the first political painter, and a true revolutionary, but
one cannot disengage his art work from the social and political systems of the period. Therefore,
this essay will present an overview of the social context and systems of Pre Revolution France,
Neoclassicism and how David s work was influenced by it and how his work influenced it. Also
important to note are the art work that influenced Neoclassicism.
2. Social and Artistic Climate in the 18th Century

The second noted influence on the New Classical period was the excavations of Herculaneum and
Pompeii and the paintings, sculptures and jewellery that were brought forth from these sites. These
mines of wealth motivated an interest in Greco Roman art, which is the mark of Neoclassicism.
Within the recovered works, people saw a physical perfection and moral health which was a
dominant theme of the Enlightenment. New perceptions of society based in the Athesian
commonwealth and the Roman republic was beginning to form, and later these themes became
symbols of freedom and democracy (the basis of Romanticism). The artistic assumption of the time
was the idea that, one must raise beauty over morality and that beauty lies in shape and contour, not
in colour, which only assisted beauty. This principle simplified the Neo Classical forms.

2.2. The Academy
The first academy was started by Leonardo da Vinci in 1498. It was designed as a gathering of
people to discuss art and science. This evolved to the instruction of these subjects by means of an
apprenticeship system; masters teaching students.
Later, the Academy adopted a policy of exclusion to non members, offering only students the
opportunities to be given commissions, exhibitions and prestige. Also, artists could only gain
recognition for their art by the guilds if they had studied at the Academy.
During the seventeenth century, the French

Effects Of Addiction On Recovery From Addiction

Addiction has hit your life hard and you re ready to start over again by attending a rehab center.
We re proud of you for making the right decision! It s not one that is easy to make because it
requires massive and difficult life changes. However, moving successfully through recovery is the
most important moment you ll ever experience in your life.
True recovery from addiction requires a commitment to cleansing your life of the negative impact

Psychology Today goes in depth on the most difficult of these relapse triggers to cleanse from
your life: friends and family members who use. They quote a common AA saying that says, If
you visit the barber shop often enough, you re bound to get a haircut. Basically, if you keep
visiting the same people and the same locations with whom and where you used in the past, it s
going to be hard to resist falling into old patterns.
We re here to tell you that it is possible to eliminate these people and locations from your life in a
healthy manner. Call up or e mail your friends and tell them that you care about them, but that you
can t see them anymore, due to your dedication to recovery. Nobody wants to make this step in
their life, but it is one that you must take if you want to start over again.
Make sure they understand it is nothing personal and that you would be more than happy to see
them if they quit using. In this way, you may even serve as a positive role model that can help
your friends dedicate themselves to sobriety. While you can t force recover or sobriety on them,
you d be surprised at how open they ll be if you re honest and caring with them.

Why I Want To Attend A Military Academy
I wish to attend the United States Military Academy because it has been a dream. I have always
read of the great men that have walked through its halls and wish to become one of those
prominent figures. You constantly read of West Point in history books and it has always sat as a
highly respected place in my mind. The academy itself and the leaders it has produced are
almost always admired and respected in life and death. This is an appealing factor that it can
produce a person of such worth that history will always remember their names. To be never
forgotten is a goal that many people find appealing as a life goal. Create a memory that will be
remembered long after you are gone. West Point seems to do that for many it also gives you the

Andrew Still s Osteopathic Paper
The son of a doctor and a pastor, Andrew Still (1828 1917) believed that the human being was the
perfect being, of divine origin. This belief went on to be a key component for the basis of his
research in the establishment of osteopathy. Dr. Still believed that the medical treatments and
practices available to him at the time were highly unorthodox, ineffective and that they had the
potential to be harmful. In 1864 shortly after the conclusion of the civil war, Still lost his 3
children due to spinal meningitis and it was this incident that further fortified Still to seek an
alternative way of treatment. Dr. Still went on to spend the next 10 years of his life analysing and
examining the human body exploring alternate ways to treat pain and disease. In addition to Still
theorising his own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still s research and analysis led him to the conclusion that the muskoskeletal system played a
vital role in one s individual health, moreover that a properly aligned muskoskeletal system was
the explanation for good health. With this information Still had realised the relationship between
structure and function and he theorised that the disease process arises when the flow of life is
interrupted (Still, 1908). Thereafter Still formulated a hands on approach to treatment; now
commonly known as osteopathic manual therapy (OMM). This non invasive treatment method
was believed by Still to cure disease, treat pain and re establish flow within the body. Rather than
just focusing on the manifestations of injury or illness in a patient, Still would instead seek to
explore and understand the cause. You wonder what Osteopathy is; you look in the medical
dictionary and find as its definition bone disease. That is a grave mistake. It is compounded of
two words, osteon, meaning bone, pathos, pathine, to suffer. Greek lexicographers say it is a
proper name for a science founded on a knowledge of bones. So instead of bone disease it really
means usage. (Still, 1987,

Pretty in Pink Essay
Pretty in Pink В– Summary
Pretty in Pink is essentially a love story about a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, the rich
high school hunk who has his eye on her, and the peer pressure that threatens their budding
romance. Molly Ringwald plays the character of Andie Walsh, an unpopular poor girl living in the
shabbier side of town. Andrew McCarthy portrays the role of Blane McDonnagh, a wealthy
heartthrob who asks her out to the prom. As their romance evolves, both characters struggle with
increasing pressure from their peers whom are unsupportive of the relationship mostly because of
the difference in social class. This, however, doesn t necessarily hold true for two of the characters
whose objections appear to derive from other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a pretty classic high school fight with teachers running out of their classrooms to intervene.
I don t think this scene does have a big modeling effect because unfortunately the kind of
violence nowadays has escalated to a whole different dimension. Long gone are the days where
two kids fought it out one on one with only their hands as weapons. Gangs, knives, bats, guns, or
some other kind of weapon play center stage in most of the altercations today. There is a level of
underlying aggression in this movie, almost like a pressure cooker slowly building until
someone blows. Steff as the bad guy is aggressive in nature, verbally harassing anyone he deems
below him or in Andie s case, anyone who has the gall to say no to him. He is really setting the
stage for Duckie s (good guy) moment of aggression, when exasperated and fed up with the entire
situation, he physically attacks Steff. I think Duckie has just about had it, and although most
blows are obviously in defense of Andie, I think he snuck in a couple for himself (unpopular teen)
too! I would say the justification for this moment of violence comes from the fact that this is
probably years in the making. These teens are seniors in high school, and I m sure anyone would
blow their lid after what was most certainly fours years of bullying. When Duckie glares Steff
down in the hallway, he seems angry but also apprehensive of acting upon his feelings until a cocky

around the world. There is also many myths and misconceptions surrounding added HPG s in the
meat that we consume. In this report I will be discussing the effects of HGP in meat, the opinions
for and against this procedure and also my own personal stance and proposed societal action.
Hormones are certain chemicals that are naturally present in all organisms. These hormones are
heavily involved in an organisms body functions and are essential for reproduction, development

Through the development of this process there has been many subsequent effects on the animals,
human health, the economy and the environment. Many of these effects cause controversy and
need more research to be conducted to substantiate claims.
Our first area of immediate effect is on the animals who are being injected. The biological effects of
these hormonal implantations on the cattle is quite circumstantial as there is no serious detrimental
effects to the animals health in a properly conducted implantation. However, it is errors in this
process that lead to negative effects. Firstly the correct dosage must be administered because a high
dosage may cause blockage of the intestinal and reproductive systems. A high amount of hormones
can also cause weight to be gain too rapidly which can become painful for the animal and cause
crippling. Secondly, the age, weight and condition of the cattle must be taken into consideration.
The animal should be in the final fattening stage and mature enough to cope with the increase of
hormones. The correct dosage must be given to an

acquaintances started to say that she was fat and chubby. In her family everyone is very slim and

For example they might loose fifty pounds and still think they are too fat. They eat very little, if
any at all, but most of them claim that they do not get hungry. It is a very dangerous and serious
disease. Sports are one of the factors that lead to eating disorders. Gymnasts and dancers have to
maintain a small skinny frame. They tried to maintain or loose weight to a stay in shape. There
are many other sports were athletes have eating disorders. Some examples are track, swimming,
cross country, youth football and other sports. In order to maintain their weight most of them
eat less and they over exercise to keep them in shape. Another cause of this sometimes fatal
disease has to do with body image and peer pressure. A person with eating disorder typically
suffers from a body image disturbance that can impact many areas his or her life. Most women
are given the message at a very young age that in order to be happy and successful, they must be
thin. For example, every time you walk into a store you are surrounded by the images of
emaciated models that appear on the front cover of all the fashion magazines. Thousands of
teenage girls are starving themselves this very minute trying to attain what fashion industry
considers to be the ideal figure. The average model weights less than an average woman does.
Teenagers need to realize society s ideal body image is not achievable. The photos we see in the

Effect Of Anaerobic Respiration On Yeast
In this experiment, my group designed our own experiment in which we explored anaerobic
respiration using yeast by measuring the rate of fermentation and examining the amount of carbon
dioxide produced by active yeast. We did this by obtaining one mole of sucrose, glucose, and
fructose and testing their effects they had on fermentation in a water and yeastmixture.
Fermentation is more often referred to as anaerobic respiration, which takes place in the absence
of oxygen, and yeasts are single celled fungi, often used in commercial bread and alcoholic
beverage production. Anaerobic respiration is helpful to the body because it helps produce lactic
acid in the muscles when exercising, and stops your body from overworking itself. During
alcoholic fermentation, cells break down glucoseto form ethanol and carbon dioxide, as well as two
ATP molecules. I hypothesized that if the same amount of glucose, sucrose, and fructose are added
to a solution, then the rate of fermentation will increase, varying among the sugars. My null
hypothesis stated if the same amount of sucrose, glucose, and fructose is added to the solution, then
no reaction will occur. To start our experiment, we created our control that was filled with water
heated to sixty degrees Fahrenheit, then added a yeast packet to the water and mixed the solution.
Next, we acquired one mole of sucrose, glucose, and fructose. The independent variables in our
experiment included sucrose, glucose, and fructose, while the

Teaching ESL Writing (Final Paper)
Teaching ESL Writing
At times the plethora of professional journals and the myriad subjects treated therein seems like
little more than a dizzying exercise in redundancy and a forum for education professionals to
justify their worth in a competitive job market; however, I would like to think that there is a
hidden value for those of us whose brains seem to operate in what some might call a spiral
rhetorical pattern, that as we work our way around and around certain issues related to composition
instruction, we are moving gradually upward toward broader understanding and better practice.
Some studies seem to do little more than show the need for more studies, their authors falling back

Having lately read a great deal of professional literature regarding the ups and downs of teaching
college composition to ESL students, I ve noticed that students with LDs are conspicuously absent a
fact that suggests one or more possible conclusions: Students with LDs just aren t represented in
college level ESL courses; Students with LDs are there but they don t have needs separate from
those of non LD students that would require special consideration by college teachers; These
students are there and have needs requiring special attention by their teachers, but the teachers
themselves lack understanding of what those needs are and how to accommodate them.
Which of these holds most true, in general, is what I ve set out to discover, in hopes that I will
find a hidden font of knowledge addressing the singular needs of ESL students with LDs and how
teachers do, or can, meet those needs. The possibility that my first reason mentioned above might
be true leads to a political can of worms I d prefer to leave unopened; therefore, I ll concentrate on
the third choice that LD students who are also learning English as a second or other language are
merely going unrecognized due to the masking of LD symptoms behind communicative difficulties
resulting from the hardships inherent in non native language learning.

Arthur Buzz Hirsch, a St. Joseph News Press reporter, conducted a background investigation on
the Aryan National Liberation Front (ANLF). This group is one of white supremacist and anti
government ideology. This group, according to confidential sources, is involved in harassment
and tax evasion. Two incidents, a bombing on February 12th (which two men have been arrested
for) and a shooting that took place on March 10th, are believed to be connected to the ANLF.
However, a confidential sources says the ANLF has nothing to do with the shooting. Recently,
police and a member of the prosecutor s office showed up at the News Press offices with a
warrant, demanding Hirsch to turn over all notes, research materials, and recordings relating to the
ANLF. Also, he was urged to identify his sources. Hirsch refused to do both. Whether or not the
prosecuting office can demand Hirsch to turn over any information depends on court precedents
and current laws. In Branzburg v. Hayes (1972), the Supreme Court decided the First Amendment
did not grant reportorial privilege in the court. This means journalists and other members of the
press cannot use freedom of speech as a defense in order to not testify. This includes if a source
was meant to be confidential. Lower courts interpreted Branzburg differently. In the case of
Branzburg, reportorial privilege was unnecessary. Later with Zerilli v. Smith (1981), the D.C.
Circuit Court of Appeals concluded that reportorial privilege existed.

The 5th Wave Character Analysis
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey is a young adult science fiction novel. The story follows a young
girl named Cassie as the world as we know it comes to an end due to an alien arrival. Yancey
makes many of his beliefs, about family, trust, and love, known throughout the novel. For example,
Yancey s story conveys that family is worth dying for, trust is imperative for survival, and love can
drive people to go on beyond their limits. Countless times all through the novel, the theme that
family is worth dying for is evident. From the beginning, Cassie s father shows this when the whole
familystays put in their house while Cassie s mother is sick. By staying there, they are all risking
their lives as it would be incredibly easy for the rest of them to become ill with the altered form
of Ebola. Later, Cassie s father allows her to leave the barracks to go look for Crisco in the
woods when he senses trouble. He could have volunteered himself instead, but he decides that his
daughter is worth dying for. Moreover, Cassie constantly puts her life on the line for Sammy.
Beginning when Sammy boards the bus to to Wright Patterson, everything Cassie does is a riskto
ensure his safety. Her level of determination first becomes apparent when she decides to face her
Silencer. While she is lying under the Buick, her promise to Sammy motivates her to go on. From
the moment she boards the bus to Camp Haven herself, there was an infinite sea of possibilities for
something to go wrong. Even

Descartes Dreaming Argument
The topic of this essay is Descartes First Meditations and I will be discussing in detail the Dreaming
argument and the Evil Demon argument.
According to Descartes , As I think about this more carefully, I see plainly that there are never any
sure signs by means of which being awake can be distinguished from being asleep. This is the
fundamental principle of the Dreaming Argument. The scenarios in which we experience whilst we
are asleep are comparable to the scenarios we experience whilst we are awake. Often, we struggle
to tell from our own perspective where our experiences are derived from; it is difficult to
differentiate whether our experiences stem from reality or our dreams. The issue with this is that
our unconscious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be challenged as to sit in a lecture you must be certain that you re sitting in a lecture, but
you cannot be certain that you are not actually dreaming, therefore you cannot be certain that you
re sitting in a lecture. P2 there is no way to be certain that the experiences we perceive to be reality
are our reality. Descartes argues that there is no way that we can be completely certain that such
experiences are not unconscious experiences, Any experience that strikes me as waking experiences
such that I am perceiving the environment in a normal way are indistinguishable from possible
dreaming experiences.
An objection to this argument is that we can distinguish being awake and being asleep. If we
can remember our dreams once we are awake, we can recognise them as dreams as they
generally don t make sense which differs from our logical conscious experiences. Dreams are
usually only coherent for a short period of time which is a distinct difference from being awake.
Once we are conscious, even our most vivid unconscious experiences can be recognised as
dreams. Your waking experiences can be intensely recalled whereas you do not always remember
your unconscious experiences. I believe that this is a weak argument because sometime struggle to
fully distinguish between reality and our dreams as our unconscious experiences are
overwhelmingly intense and life like.

How to Calculate Beta
How to Calculate Beta Beta refers to the volatility of a particular stock compared against the
volatility of the entire stock market or, in practice, a representative index of that market, such as
the Standard and Poor s (S amp;P) 500. Beta is an indicator of how risky a particular stock is and
is used to evaluate its expected rate of return. Beta is one of the fundamentals stock analysts
consider when choosing stocks for their portfolios, along with price to earnings ratio, shareholder
s equity, debt to equity ratio and other factors. Here s how to calculate beta and use beta to figure
an expected rate of return. Steps Calculating Beta for a Stock 1. 1... Show more content on

If the stock s rate of return is 7 percent and the risk free rate is 2 percent, the difference would be
5 percent. 4. 4 Subtract the risk free rate from the market (or index) rate of return. If the market
or index rate of return is 8 percent and the risk free rate is again 2 percent, the difference would
be 6 percent. 5. 5 Divide the difference in the stock s return rate minus the risk free rate by the
market (or index) rate of return minus the risk free rate. This is the beta, which is typically
expressed as a decimal value. In the example above, the beta would be 5 divided by 6, or 0.833.
* The beta of the market itself, or its representative index, is by definition 1.0, as the market is
being compared against itself and any nonzero number divided by itself equals 1. A beta less
than 1 means that the stock is less volatile than the market as a whole, while a beta greater than 1
means the stock is more volatile than the market as a whole. The beta value can be less than zero,
meaning either that the stock is losing money while the market as a whole is gaining (more likely)
or that the stock is gaining while the market as a whole is losing money (less likely). * When
figuring beta, it is common, though not required, to

sent to govern this area. This essay will also discuss why Bacon should not be considered a hero

Tidewater Virginia was occupied by 15,000 Algonquian speaking Indians. They lived mainly along
the James, York, and Rappahannock rivers in a land they called Tsenacomoco. In the 1600 settlers
were sent to Virginia by the king of Britain with the main purpose to bring Christianity to the
Indians and take possession of their lands (James Horn). Just for the simple fact that it was not

Database Environment Intro
The Tampa Art Museum needs to track the artwork, artists, and locations where the art is displayed
or stored within the museum. Currently The Tampa Art Museum is using an inaccurate set of
spreadsheets to keep track of art, artist, and location data within the Museum and it is very
cumbersome for end users. The Project teams Goal is to create a reliable database to streamline
operations at the museum and make inventory accurate and reliable.
Database Environment
The database environment consists of the system hardware, software, people, procedures, and data.
The hardware that will be used for the database is a network of Dell ... Show more content on

The data in the database will represent the artwork, artists, and locations art is stored within the
museum. The data will be stored into tables created with Microsoft Access.
Problems Constraints
The problems and constraints for the new database will be the gathering of data that needs to be
represented in the new database. At the present time Microsoft Excel spreadsheets are being used
to store data on art, artists, and art locations. These spreadsheets are not always updated and
accurately represented on all present workstations. The data needs to be gathered and documented
before the new database can be created to insure that the new database will be accurate.
Time is another constraint of the new database project. The database needs to be operational
before the beginning of the next fiscal year and within the allotted budget of $20,000. The budget
is allotted for labor only as all the hardware and software has already been obtained for the database.
Database Objectives
The objective of the database is to document what art, artists, and location of the art is contained
within the museum. This will help museum project leaders know exactly what the museum has for
art on hand, and to organize the inventory and prepare for future exhibits.
Scope
The scope of the new database is to define all the art, artist, and art locations within the museum.
The database will only contain information about the art, artist, and location of the art within

Essay on The Watergate Scandal
June 17, 1972 forever changed both journalism and politics. A simple botched break in marked the
downfall of President Richard Nixon, and the rise to glory of two obscure young Washington Post
journalists: Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. While their investigative journalism revealed the
truth, their questionable methods and ethics have led to these questions; Do the ends justify the
means? Was their behavior ethical and legal? The Watergate Scandal
was a major political scandal
during the Presidency of Nixon. Nixon, paranoid and afraid of losing his reelection, employed men
to do an assortment of illegal activities intended to place the republicans ahead of the democrats in
the election. The activities were not detected until a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During different incidents spaced throughout the investigation of Watergate , all four were
violated by Woodward and Bernstein. The first infringement occurred early during Watergate.
Bernstein was investigating Miami ties to the Watergate burglars and agreed to trade information
(arrests, mental illnesses, history of homosexuality) on a name, for the Dade County, Fl district
attorney s knowledge about the connections (Bernstein Woodward, 1974). It turns out the man
investigated was the DA s opponent in the next election. Bernstein never actually gave the DA
the research; the DA told him he did not need the information anymore. His crime? Plotting with
a prosecutor to investigate a political target (Cook, 2012). Another ethically objectionable
choice was Bernstein illicitly pulling phone and credit card records on Watergate targets (Cook,
2012). He persuaded a source at a telephone company to give him Bernard Baker s (the burglar)
records. While not illegal at the time, it is presently a federal offense punishable by up to ten
years in prison. Currently, Rupert Murdoch s British newspaper holdings are being destroyed over
similar behavior, and the News of the Earth is gone for illegally accessing voicemails; Bernstein s
infringements were vastly more obtrusive (Cook, 2012). Violating privacy of personal financial
records is completely unethical and a complete infraction of minimizing harm (Society of

Stephen King The Shining Theme
The Shining, by Stephen King, is a classic piece of American literature. Published in 1977, the story
focuses on the Torrance family, and their horrific adventure at the Overlook Hotel. Taking place in
1975 in the mountains of Colorado, the story takes a terrible turn towards death after Jack Torrance,
the father of the family, begins being taken over by the evil spirits that lurk in the hotel, and
essentially loses his mind. Jack begins expressing aggressive behavior and threatens to hurt his
family. In the end, he not only threatens, but actually attempts to kill his five year old son, Danny,
and his wife, Wendy. The orientation of the story around the family produces the theme of the
novel, that inner demons and fears can destroy us. There are many passages that demonstrate this
theme throughout the novel, and prove that it is the most prevalent theme.
This plot is similar to the plots of many of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stephen King writes, Something had happened to the boy. He was sure of it. If anyone has hurt

Compare and contrast The Echoing Green with The Schoolboy by
Compare and contrast The Echoing Green with The Schoolboy by
William Blake
Both The Echoing Green and The Schoolboy are classed under the section, Songs of Innocence ,
which at first suggests that they will be of a similar nature. However this presumption is dispelled
early on, as one examines the issues behind the often comparable wording.
Many elements in The Schoolboy do echo those in The Echoing Green and visa versa, but the
atmospheres of each poem that are presented are so different that it becomes difficult to see how
two such contrasting pieces of work can unite in the same genre.
The Echoing Green is one of Blake s most idyllic poems, as it is set in a pastoral and carefree
atmosphere, which centres ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using the image of a summer morn in the first stanza, Blake creates a tranquil and untainted
atmosphere, and descriptions such as birds sing and the distant huntsman winds his horn add an
auditory element in an almost identical way to the previous poem. However the serene scene
does not continue into the second verse, where the tone changes and Blake describes how having
to go to school ruins such a beautiful day: it drives all joy away . The use of the word drives is
quite strong and terminates the flowing nature of the previous verse, and the repetition of a summer
morn allows one to contrast the two verses.
From hence forward, The Schoolboy continues with a fairly negative tone, switching from the first
person, I drooping sit to a more philosophical stance towards the end, How shall we gather what
griefs destroy? . The stoical conclusion I feel demonstrates the implications of education, and
shows that, if buds are nipped , one not only damages childhood but also runs the risk of
establishing a long term effect on the individual, later on in life.
Both poems use time to illustrate the changing nature of the individuals, but even this is performed
in very different ways. The increasing darkness of The Schoolboy could be seen as
representational of the changing seasons, adding to the aspect of the natural world in the poem,
especially as the final verses

Decline of Blanche DuBois in Tennessee Williams A...
The Unnecessary Decline of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire
Upon reviewing the drama, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, it would appear that
the character of Blanche DuBois is worthy of closer inspection. With her previous occupation as a
teacher of American literature and her former social status being that of a well bred woman of the
very traditional Old South, Blanche could be any human being transferring from one culture to
another with customs far different from the ones being left behind. Even today it could happen that
someone is suddenly confronted with a totally new and different value system with which he must
learn to cope in order to be accepted into his new environment. That is the ... Show more content on

Blanche depends on manner, on affected little girl innocence, to sustain her (Hirsch 33). That is
quite evident at the very beginning of the play when she seems to be disgusted by the way her
sister lives with her husband. However, Blanche s evasive explanation of her early arrival, before
the end of the spring term at the school in Laurel, is a clear indication that something went wrong
with Blanche. In her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are
antagonist and protagonist. Twice in scene 1, a cat screeches near the window, startling Blanche
and now summoning up a cat and mouse image for the relationship between Stanley and Blanche
(Londre 47).
In the second scene, the audience witnesses Blanche s obsessive bathing, just to quiet my nerves
(Williams 39) as she told her sister Stella, but it is a nominal gesture of guilt and wished for
redemption (Bloom 16). In a single moment of deviation from her mood of gaiety in this scene,
Blanche withholds a faded, ribbon tied sheaf of love letters: Poems a dead boy wrote. I hurt him
that way you would like to hurt me ... (Williams 41). That shows her feeling of guilt about the death
of her husband.
In the same scene Stanley reveals to Blanche that he is going to check her papers from Belle Reve,
inheritance having taken on added importance as Stella has taken on added girth with her
pregnancy. At that news, Blanche rushes to

Essay On Cat s Cradle
Stan Brakhage s Cat s Cradle took me on a ride of ecstasy that I can never forget I have taken.
After viewing this quick cut, fast paced, and slightly unnerving piece, my mind did not ever want to
view the film again but for some reason I could not resist. This film has no clear throughline
narrative, but beautifully illustrates a dreamlike feeling that usually cannot be articulated. The six
minute and nineteen second filmhas so much dense material that needs to be unpacked in order to
attempt to enter Brakhage s mind or thought process. Cats Cradle brings an interesting characteristic
of film that may not have been practiced before the release of this film. Brakhage uses multiple

The silence also creates a type of atmosphere that pulls you into this world Brakhage has created
and when the film concludes and the silence remains, it feels as if you have never left the world of

Editing plays a large role in Cat s Cradle and is the large reason that to write about this film it has
to be viewed more than once. Brakhage and his editors use quick cutting to create a sequence
similar to a montage. This type of editing kept me on the edge of seat, I was always waiting for
more information or different shots to appear. The downside to this erratic type of editing is
that it leaves little room for a concrete narrative to be pulled; then leaving audience interpretation
to be the driving force of the film s critical analyses. Walter Murch, the editor of Sam Mendes
Jarhead, once told Lawrence Weschler in his essay Valkyries over Iraq that he believes the largest
problem with film as a narrative medium is that it s literal, in that what you see is what was
literally there, and yet we as filmmakers in processing the narrative have to create a spaciousness, a
sketchy ambiguity, that allows the audience themselves to piece it all together and make it
powerfully their own. Brakhage takes that sketchy ambiguity and throws it out the window, leaving
all ambiguity and nothing literal. Thus the film can be easily categorized as experimental;
Brakhage is heavily

The Competitors Of The Fitness Industry
INTRODUCTION The area of Shred415 that I research was the competitors of the fitness
industry. From big gyms with basketball courts, pools, and juice bars such as Lifetime Fitness to
videos you can watch and work out to at home like P90X, there are thousands of different places
to turn to improve your fitness and health. However, Shred415 takes a new approach at fitness
with small classes of about 30 people that work out in intervals of either 5, 10, or 15 minutes.
During these intervals, people alternate between cardio work on the treadmill and weight training.
Shred415 is already taking a different approach at fitness, but will enough people make the

However, with this new business plan, Shred415 can make more people become shredders by
making their gyms big enough to withstand more people and by introducing a pre recorded
training video for the customers to watch while working out. The new business plan is to be
able to get more customers in to workout and be able to get in without scheduling a month in
advance. Also, it will address the problem of having a shortage of trained instructors for their
gyms. Question We came to our idea by asking ourselves, what are the biggest problems with
Shred415 right now and how can we take this already unique fitness club to the next level.
Shred415 already has a lot of strengths. It is an innovative new way of working out and the
people love it, as I stated above. Ultimately, our idea came from the side of your customers
because they are what drive your company. We asked ourselves, how can Shred415 expand enough
where they can keep their waitlist to a minimum and become more available for customers? And
how can they address their shortage of trained instructors? Situation Currently Shred415 is doing a
great job at drawing customers in and keeping them loyal. However, the problems for Shred415
right now are their availability and the ability to get enough trained instructors on their staff. As of
right now, the maximum amount of people

Implementing The Tax System Classification Rules
On December 17, 1996, the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) finalized rules that were
intended to simplify the tax entity classification rules. These rules have become known as the check
the box regulations. Simply put, these regulations allow an eligible entity to check a box that
indicates the desired taxtreatment the entity wishes to have. These new regulations signify what
was a much needed departure from the previous classification regulations, which were vague,
ambiguous, and created many disputes between taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service(IRS).
This simplification of the entity classification rules would make it easier for such entities to gain
their desired tax treatment, which allows those entities to focus... Show more content on

These new rules replace the Kintner test, which will be analyzed later in this paper. To fully
understand the effects that CTB rules have on entities tax rates, it is important to understand the
complexities of Regulation 301.7703.
Explanation of Regulation 301.7703 3
As previously mentioned, any business entity that is not required to be treated as a corporation may
choose its own classification. An entity may choose to have all of the beneficial characteristics
as a corporation, but to avoid double taxation, they may choose to be taxed as a partnership. An
entity with two or more members can be classified either as a partnership or as an association,
which is taxed as a corporation. An entity with only one member has an option to be taxed as a
corporation or can choose to be disregarded as an entity separate from its owner. That entity
cannot choose partnership classification because a partnership, by definition, has two or more
partners. A disregarded entity is a business entity with one owner that is not recognized for tax
purposes as an entity separate from its owner. Therefore, the taxpayer is treated as a sole
proprietorship and the individual must report all income and losses on their own tax return.
Foreign business organizations are categorized by default classifications and must elect to be taxed
differently on Form 8832, same as domestic entities. A foreign business entity where all owners
have limited liability will be treated as a

Toyota Of The Chevrolet Bolt Introduced At The Detroit...
Four years is a long time to go from concept car to production vehicle.
Typically, a car manufacturer teases a concept it intends to build and approves it for production
within the year. For example, in the case of the Chevrolet Bolt introduced at the Detroit auto show
(NAIAS) last January, it was green lighted for production before the start of the Chicago Auto Show
the following month.
Toyota has teased us with a handful of concept vehicles down through the years, including the
fetching FT 1, a delicious sports car some hope becomes the all new Toyota Supra. Notably, on the
Lexus side of the house we ve seen the LF LC, a product dangled before us at the 2012 NAIAS.
That concept is now a production reality and comes to us in the form of the Lexus LC 500, a
provocative high end sports car introduced at the 2016 NAIAS.

The Lexus LC 500 was approved by Akio Toyoda, Chief Branding Officer and Master Driver for

Regardless of which way it goes, both sides usually come out on top with the prisoners losing.
One group even created something called the Prison Divestment Campaign in 2011. The
campaign was formed by several groups working together to try and get investors to pull out of
private prison deals (Magee 49 50). It was easy for them to get scared that other parts of
branches of the government would become privatized seeing as a piece of the judicial branch

What Role Does Christianity Play In The Chronicles Of Narnia

Breathing Mediation Research Paper

When done every day a person will learn to relax better. It can aid in controlling what a person
thinks as he sees a pattern to his thoughts and can stop negative ones.
Breathe deeply feeling the abdomen movement and concentrate on it and not the chest. Make sure
to breathe through the nose.
What is the Diaphragm?
It is a large muscle. It sits in a horizontal position crossing the bottom of the rib cage. It connects
to the front, back, and sides of the lower rib cage. It has an oval shape and turned over bowl look.

But the lower abdomen is still when someone breathes with the diaphragm. The chest breathing also
generates more stress and basically a cycle is started. This cause bodily tenseness and agitates the

The adherent to diaphragmatic breathing for deep meditation has to take the time to learn to breathe
from the diaphragm and keep the top of the chest and the bottom of the abdomen still.
Western medicine has found out that just as the yogis have known for a long time, breathing is
closely related to autonomic nervous system and a person s mind. Thus, some hospitals now teach
people deep breathing.
A person needs to be trained correctly and to practice it daily. He should practice it at least in the

chances of winning big grows. The skull and sword symbol works as the games scatter symbol,
so if you look past its terrifying nature, its sight will become much more appreciated in the midst
of a game session. Reason being that these symbols are a player s gateway into the heart racing
bonus rounds. If all the above hasn t got you chomping at the bit to play The Vikings, then this
will be the kicker, as you can stack actually stack wilds to send your profits through the roof.
The Vikings are here!
It has been one of the most long awaited games it slots history. Since players first set eyes on it
earlier this year it seems like the countdown was well and truly on. The Vikings is a game that has

Dependency Theory vs Modernization Theory
While the explanations of underdevelopment differed, experts such as Brooks and Hallward
viewed the natural disaster in Haiti to be so destructive mainly due to its poverty. By diminishing
the level of poverty in countries such as Haiti, it is possible to make them less vulnerable to many
of the problems they face. To reduce povertyit is important for societies to accept development
strategies. What exactly is development and how can it be achieved? Development is a process in
which we attempt to bridge the gap between developed and underdeveloped nations by means of an
imitative process through which less developed countries gradually assume the quality of
industrialized nations (Canel). It occurs from our ability to imagine, theorize,... Show more content

In the analysis of the differences between the Dependency and Modernization Theory, it is
important to primarily point out the disagreement between both theories on the causes of
underdevelopment. The Modernization Theory believes that underdevelopment is a product of the
traditions and culture of countries. The argument made by David Brooks for the situation in Haiti
is one example which portrays the views of this theory. He considers the religion and culture as
constraints for Haiti to come out of its poverty. In his article he states that the voodoo religion
followed by the Haitians spreads the message that life is capricious and planning futile. Theorists
such as Lipset and Harrison claim development can only be achieved if people change their views
from traditional to modern. A traditional view, according to them, is one in which life is integrated
in the family, where much importance is given to status and where people themselves limit growth.
A modern view, on the other hand, is one where the individual comes first and growth is encouraged
in all ways. In contrast, the Dependency Theory blames the developed world for the
underdevelopment of the poor countries. In other words, this approach believes that the economic
dependency which exists between the North and South is the cause of underdevelopment.
Supporters of this theory believe that the relationship between the developed and underdeveloped
world is based on exploitation,

1. How should Motorola appropriately react to the emerging local brands, head to head competing
or cooperating in some fields? Will licensing manufacturing technology to Chinese manufacturers
weaken Motorola s core competency? China is the world s largest mobile phone market. Due to the
large size of the Chinese cell phone market and its potential for long term continual growth,
competition for access to Chinas consumer markets is intense. For the first ten years after entering
China, Motorola had no competition but now competitive threats from other multinational

These relationships will help manufacture mobile phones at the lowest cost, reduce the risks from
currency fluctuation, and improve the ability to cater to the Chinese government requirements.
Motorola should look into the expansion of its manufacturing plant in Tianjin which is one of the
major global production bases in the world for personal communication products including the cell
phones. This may help Motorola improve the relationships with the Chinese Government. Motorola
should continue to expand the relationships and contracts with China Mobile, Cisco, and Nortel
networks which have been a great positive impact on the success of Motorola in China. These
ventures will allow Motorola to focus on its expertise in developing and distributing cell phone
technology and products while the network infrastructure will be handled by a company who excels
in that area. Also having joint ventures with Chinese telecommunication infrastructure companies
like China Telecom and Unicom will put Motorola in the front seat compared to its competitors like
Nokia, Samsung and Siemens. Motorola management has been struggling to improve different
divisions due to overcrowded products and divisions. Splitting Motorola into two divisions
Semiconductor division and Mobile communications division, will allow Motorola to improve the
leadership in these two areas by having more concentration in each division by having

Muslims Are Guilty
Just because one person in a group is accused of something doesn t mean that everyone is guilty.
This can lead to terrible situations such as false imprisonment or accusations, Muslims are spread
out all over the world, in some countries they are welcome but in some countries they re reject by
politicians. United States, today is one of the countries in which Muslims faced issues.
First of all, people have concerns with Muslims because part of them are terrorism. One example
that demonstrate this on the article Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Winner, calls Donal Trumps

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime Analysis
Every day, we are faced with decisions that challenge our moral values. Having a straight needle
on an individual s moral compass is always one of the best things that they can have. It teaches
them right from wrong, and tells them when they have to interfere and do the right thing. This
summer, the theme of this project was to do the right thing , and I was required to read two
books. I chose to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, as well
as Going Bovine by Libba Bray. Both books immediately grabbed me by the hand and took me into
their worlds, along with learning the important lessons behind both Christopher and Cameron s
stories. The emotions of each individual character play an important part in the development of the
characters, as well as the storyline. In Going Bovine, one emotion I noticed... Show more content on

toaster catches on fire, and the effects of the Mad Cow disease start to kick in as he starts to
hallucinate fire giants. His hallucinations cause him to see things that are often larger than life.
Cameron s fear begins to really take effect when he realizes that he is rendered immobile and is
helpless to the images that are currently in front of him. Another emotion I noticed in Going
Bovine from Jenna was anger when she found out that Cameron punched Chet. You punched
Chet! Jenna s so pissed she actually takes out a non fat free pudding cup. (Bray, 60) Jenna, as a
sister, is embarrassed to have Cameron as a brother. The fact that her brother punched the guy who
she could have a potential relationship with most likely scared her, so she took her out her anger

Democratization Of Democracy And Autocracy In The United...
The government of the independent states of the world is usually either autocracy or democracy.
Autocracy refers to a system where one person has absolute power over a nation. Democracy is a
system of government by the whole population or all eligible members of a state, typically through
elected representatives. The first wave of democratization started in the early 19th century and
persisted until the 1920 s after which many democracies reverted to autocracy. Many democracies
failed, creating the first reverse wave. After World War II had ended, the second wave of
democratization came along. It was relatively brief with the bulk of countries deferring to
autocracy by the 1950 s. The mid 1970 s brought the third wave of democratization which continued

During this time, the world saw as many as 33 democracies worldwide ( Stanford University
News Service, 1993, p. 1). By 1942, as World War II was underway, the number of democracies
dropped to 11. A notable improvement to democracyin the United States during this wave is that
on August 26, 1920, women were granted the right to vote (Golbin Goodman, 2016, p. 1). The
second wave of democratization began following World War II. With the allied victory over Nazi
Germany, the world acknowledged up to 52 democracies between 1943 and 1962. Democracy was
imposed on the losing countries and suffrage was expanded to include all males. Countries such as
Germany and Italy reestablished democracies, and a large number of European third world
countries achieved their independence (Shively, 2014, p. 153). While many democracies survived,
many also fell to military coups. Transitions between autocracy and democracy between 1950 and
1990 occurred mostly in Latin America. The United States at this time was as always improving
democracy. Many notable things happened during this time to include the 1954 decision by the
United States Supreme Court to outlaw racial segregation in public education

Animal cruelty encompasses a range of different behaviors harmful to animals, from neglect to
malicious, brutal killings. Studies show that animal cruelty may lead to more serious forms of
crime, like heavy drug use, violent outbursts, and most common, cold blooded murder. Many
studies in psychology, sociology, and criminology during the last twenty five years have
demonstrated that violent offenders frequently have childhood and adolescent histories of serious
and repeated animal cruelty. A web page that goes by the name Animal Alliance says most cruelty
investigated by humane officers, is unintentional neglect, and can be resolved through education.

In the videotape that the police and media have in their possession, four men are shown torturing
and killing Scruffy in lurid detail. The quality of the tape is very good, and the police have been
able to obtain photographs of the men in the tape. In this tape, one of the four men is shown to
elevate Scruffy off the ground by the neck, and then begin this horrific abuse by choking him.
This 6 pound little dog did not have a fighting chance against these men. Scruffy, still alive, was
then placed in a trash bag. The four men shown in the tape then doused the trash bag with what
appeared in the video to be lamp oil, took a cigarette lighter, and set Scruffy on fire.
Scruffy, at this point in the video, began to run wildly in pain and agony around the trees while
the four men watched and laughed. When the flames finally went out, Scruffy was still alive, but
his torture was not over. Next, the men decided to try to decapitate Scruffy with a shovel. After
slamming the shovel into Scruffy s neck and not being able to attain their goal, they realized that
Scruffy was more of a fighter than they had expected. The men then opened Scruffy s mouth and
began to pull his jaws apart, as if trying to rip his face in two. Using the shovel in place of a club,

Pricing yourself in the market is important. Many pros complain people give their images away
and devalue the market. I am always interested in what companies are willing to pay for. I often
consult with professionals before I sell images to magazines.
Where do you do most of your work?
The majority of my work is done in UK waters. I live and work in the UK so it makes sense to take
advantage of all the area has to offer. I do work overseas periodically, but I prefer cooler climates.
One goal I have is to dive under sea ice in the Arctic, or Antarctic.
What do you enjoy most about this type of photography?
Being underwater is like no other environment, there s no distraction with mobile phones, and
people talking. I like the challenge of being able to dive in harsh environments and show people
the beauty, especially in the UK, as many feel it s often dark and gloomy and there s no colour.
What is the most important thing to remember to get a good image?
The single most important element in getting a good underwater picture is to get close to your
subject, generally a maximum of three feet for most subjects, sometimes inches away. It depends on
the size of the subject you are shooting. Obviously a 30 foot basking shark is different than a one
inch shrimp. The other thing is all about understanding light, whether you are using artificial light,,
or natural light, or balancing the two. The

Edgar Allan Poe Homoeroticism Analysis
Edgar Allan Poe s multifaceted representation of homoeroticism through The Murders in the Rue
Morgue, The Mystery of Marie RГґget, and The Purloined Letter is truly a departure from typical
nineteenth century portrayals of same sex desire within literature. Rather than being something that
Poe strives to suppress, the homoeroticism present throughout all three Dupin tales is meticulously
ingrained into the structure of the texts and unapologetically nurtured, whether it be through
individual characters behavior or through the explicit exploration of homosocial relationships
between men. What allows Dupin, the narrator, and the Minister s this foray into the realm of non
normative sexuality is Poe s embrace of the nineteenth century bachelor

Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe was born near London on the 19th of January 1809. His mother was an actor
and his father was a doctor. When Poe was 2 years old his father disappeared. His mother, who
was seriously ill in tuberculosis, took Poe and his sister to Richmond, Virginia. Poe s mother died
soon after this. The two siblings became then separated and Poe was taken care of by the wealthy
family of the Allans. Due to Mr. Allans work the family had to move to England, where they spent
five years. In 1826 Poe started at quot; The University of Virginia quot;.

Poe was fascinated by the mystical and the unknown. He was also interested in the human
subconscious and why a human being react in a certain way at a certain time. His stories are
often about dark castles and castle ruins which often have secrets buried deep down in the walls
where they have been for centuries. Most likely in a moonlit desert landscape. Magical
experiments and hypnosis play a big part in Poe s works. Many people thinks that Edgar Allan Poe
was one of the first detective story writer with the short story quot; The murders in the Rue morgue
quot;, where the detective Monsieur Dupin solves a strange homicide case where a giant monkey
is the murderer. This short story is a bit different because there is for example a three page laying
out about algae and mosses in the story.
Poe had a rhythmic and floating language in his texts and to show this, I have a couple of excerpts
from the poem quot; The Raven quot;. There are also examples of the mystical that often is found
in Poe s productions. The poem is written in four
stroke iamb.
The Raven
quot; Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. quot;
quot; Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.

Assessment of Levi Advertising Campaign Essay
Assessment of Levi Advertising Campaign
Levi s have been around for more than a century. The company was established in 1853. In 2003,
Levi Strauss Co. was 150 years old. In 1873 their founder, Levi Strauss created the first blue
jeans. From the mid 1950 s onwards, jeans have been especially associated with particular types of
male American youth heroes, including James Dean, the young Marlon Brando, their Sixties
followers heroes who have become symbols of youth rebellion in almost all areas, spanning over 5
generations of American global culture.
When Levi s were first brought out, their target audience was youths, teenagers. Unfortunately as
time went on, the teens that had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To keep this idea their target audience was teenagers, younger, fresher, with more money to
spend. Young people had their own spending power as consumers, following the hard times of the
war, when, it seemed, everyone had a lot more money than anticipated and wanted to spend it on
fashions and lifestyles. A new group of people to suck into the ever expanding trade, looking for
heroes to follow, and interests to pursue, Levi s used this opportunity and has drawn repeatedly on
the idea of the rebel .
Levi s new advertising campaign introduced a creative new idea, involving a man and a woman
recreating the impression of 50s America. All the advertisements in this series revolved around this
same idea of people finding the person wearing the jeans desirable. The scenarios ranged from
launderettes to beaches, all featuring an emphasis on physical attraction and most of them set in a
public place.
However Levis didn t predict what sort of impact this commercial campaign would bring to the
population of teenagers. The result was massive, the number of Button Fly 501 s sold in 1987
was over 20 times that of 1984, due to this break through in commercial advertising. Everyone
wanted to get their hands on a pair of 501 s.
The adverts denote that wearing Levi s is cool, sexy, stylish and, although being a casual fit, they
are versatile in the sense

Old Glory Speech
While many have called the American flag Old Glory, few know how that nickname began. Fewer
still know about the fight that continues today 184 years later over a the original flag that was first

The drama of the flag began back in August 1831 when a young sea captain named William Driver
was enjoying his birthday and a promotion as the shipmaster of the brig Charles Doggett, based at
Salem, Mass. Family and friends presented Driver with a large American flag with 24 stars. When
he unfurled it for the first time, he exclaimed Old Glory! so the legend goes.

Heroism In Jackie Robinson
He was bombarded with death threats for who he was. He was punched so hard he was left with a
bloody seven inch gash on the side of his face. Even his teammates did not want to be associated
with him anymore. Through this unbearable torture, he still did not shed a single tear. This story
belongs to Jackie Robinson, a home run hero.Jackie Robinson, number forty two, is looked back
on as a hero that was an immense part of baseball;Robinson was known for the incredible heroism
he showed in baseball and in his community through his fifty three years of life. Using
information from, What is Heroism, and, How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball, The reader
learns that Jackie Robinson s heroism is shown from his fight against the social norms of an era
filled with discrimination, his courage when people tried to hurt him spiritually and physically, and
his personal and his professional sacrifices to be part of baseball.
First of all, Jackie Robinson showed and proved his heroism for how he went against the social
norms to be the first African American to play in a previously all white sport;the courage
required to break this barrier is an example of social heroism. In What is Heroism? it states, Yet
social heroism is costly in its own way, often involving loss of credibility or financial stability,
lower social status, arrest, torture, risks to family, and, in some cases, death. This statement rings
true to Jackie Robinson because, when Jackie went against the strict views of racist baseball
players and fans, he risked everything that the evidence stated! In the text, How Jackie Robinson
Changed Baseball, the hero broke the color barrier by joining Major League Baseball, a professional
sport. This hero defied discrimination at a time when people of color were not allowed to play
baseball. He did not accept the racist idea of what a professional baseball player should look like
cause he just wanted to be a part of baseball.
Another way Jackie Robinson validates and shows his heroism is by having a significant amount of
courage when many people were against him because of segregation. In the text, What is Heroism
the author defines courage as, ...individual s commitment to a noble purpose and the

  • 3. Essay on Jaques Louis David 1. Introduction Set on a stage of revolution and Enlightenment, the Neo Classical period presents a broad and interesting topic. Jacques Louis David was the first political painter, and a true revolutionary, but one cannot disengage his art work from the social and political systems of the period. Therefore, this essay will present an overview of the social context and systems of Pre Revolution France, Neoclassicism and how David s work was influenced by it and how his work influenced it. Also important to note are the art work that influenced Neoclassicism. 2. Social and Artistic Climate in the 18th Century 2.1. (Mettais: 152 156) The second noted influence on the New Classical period was the excavations of Herculaneum and Pompeii and the paintings, sculptures and jewellery that were brought forth from these sites. These mines of wealth motivated an interest in Greco Roman art, which is the mark of Neoclassicism. Within the recovered works, people saw a physical perfection and moral health which was a dominant theme of the Enlightenment. New perceptions of society based in the Athesian commonwealth and the Roman republic was beginning to form, and later these themes became symbols of freedom and democracy (the basis of Romanticism). The artistic assumption of the time was the idea that, one must raise beauty over morality and that beauty lies in shape and contour, not in colour, which only assisted beauty. This principle simplified the Neo Classical forms. (Praz: 70, 71) 2.2. The Academy The first academy was started by Leonardo da Vinci in 1498. It was designed as a gathering of people to discuss art and science. This evolved to the instruction of these subjects by means of an apprenticeship system; masters teaching students. Later, the Academy adopted a policy of exclusion to non members, offering only students the opportunities to be given commissions, exhibitions and prestige. Also, artists could only gain recognition for their art by the guilds if they had studied at the Academy. During the seventeenth century, the French

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychology Today goes in depth on the most difficult of these relapse triggers to cleanse from your life: friends and family members who use. They quote a common AA saying that says, If you visit the barber shop often enough, you re bound to get a haircut. Basically, if you keep visiting the same people and the same locations with whom and where you used in the past, it s going to be hard to resist falling into old patterns. We re here to tell you that it is possible to eliminate these people and locations from your life in a healthy manner. Call up or e mail your friends and tell them that you care about them, but that you can t see them anymore, due to your dedication to recovery. Nobody wants to make this step in their life, but it is one that you must take if you want to start over again. Make sure they understand it is nothing personal and that you would be more than happy to see them if they quit using. In this way, you may even serve as a positive role model that can help your friends dedicate themselves to sobriety. While you can t force recover or sobriety on them, you d be surprised at how open they ll be if you re honest and caring with them. I have always read of the great men that have walked through its halls and wish to become one of those prominent figures. You constantly read of West Point in history books and it has always sat as a highly respected place in my mind. The academy itself and the leaders it has produced are almost always admired and respected in life and death. • 7. Andrew Still s Osteopathic Paper The son of a doctor and a pastor, Andrew Still (1828 1917) believed that the human being was the perfect being, of divine origin. This belief went on to be a key component for the basis of his research in the establishment of osteopathy. Dr. Still believed that the medical treatments and practices available to him at the time were highly unorthodox, ineffective and that they had the potential to be harmful. In 1864 shortly after the conclusion of the civil war, Still lost his 3 children due to spinal meningitis and it was this incident that further fortified Still to seek an alternative way of treatment. Dr. Still went on to spend the next 10 years of his life analysing and examining the human body exploring alternate ways to treat pain and disease. In addition to Still theorising his own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Still s research and analysis led him to the conclusion that the muskoskeletal system played a vital role in one s individual health, moreover that a properly aligned muskoskeletal system was the explanation for good health. With this information Still had realised the relationship between structure and function and he theorised that the disease process arises when the flow of life is interrupted (Still, 1908). Thereafter Still formulated a hands on approach to treatment; now commonly known as osteopathic manual therapy (OMM). This non invasive treatment method was believed by Still to cure disease, treat pain and re establish flow within the body. Rather than just focusing on the manifestations of injury or illness in a patient, Still would instead seek to explore and understand the cause. You wonder what Osteopathy is; you look in the medical dictionary and find as its definition bone disease. That is a grave mistake. It is compounded of two words, osteon, meaning bone, pathos, pathine, to suffer. Greek lexicographers say it is a proper name for a science founded on a knowledge of bones. So instead of bone disease it really means usage. (Still, 1987, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Pretty in Pink Essay Pretty in Pink В– Summary Pretty in Pink is essentially a love story about a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, the rich high school hunk who has his eye on her, and the peer pressure that threatens their budding romance. Molly Ringwald plays the character of Andie Walsh, an unpopular poor girl living in the shabbier side of town. Andrew McCarthy portrays the role of Blane McDonnagh, a wealthy heartthrob who asks her out to the prom. As their romance evolves, both characters struggle with increasing pressure from their peers whom are unsupportive of the relationship mostly because of the difference in social class. This, however, doesn t necessarily hold true for two of the characters whose objections appear to derive from other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a pretty classic high school fight with teachers running out of their classrooms to intervene. I don t think this scene does have a big modeling effect because unfortunately the kind of violence nowadays has escalated to a whole different dimension. Long gone are the days where two kids fought it out one on one with only their hands as weapons. Gangs, knives, bats, guns, or some other kind of weapon play center stage in most of the altercations today. There is a level of underlying aggression in this movie, almost like a pressure cooker slowly building until someone blows. Steff as the bad guy is aggressive in nature, verbally harassing anyone he deems below him or in Andie s case, anyone who has the gall to say no to him. He is really setting the stage for Duckie s (good guy) moment of aggression, when exasperated and fed up with the entire situation, he physically attacks Steff. I think Duckie has just about had it, and although most blows are obviously in defense of Andie, I think he snuck in a couple for himself (unpopular teen) too! I would say the justification for this moment of violence comes from the fact that this is probably years in the making. These teens are seniors in high school, and I m sure anyone would blow their lid after what was most certainly fours years of bullying. When Duckie glares Steff down in the hallway, he seems angry but also apprehensive of acting upon his feelings until a cocky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many of these effects cause controversy and need more research to be conducted to substantiate claims. Our first area of immediate effect is on the animals who are being injected. The biological effects of these hormonal implantations on the cattle is quite circumstantial as there is no serious detrimental effects to the animals health in a properly conducted implantation. However, it is errors in this process that lead to negative effects. Firstly the correct dosage must be administered because a high dosage may cause blockage of the intestinal and reproductive systems. A high amount of hormones can also cause weight to be gain too rapidly which can become painful for the animal and cause crippling. Secondly, the age, weight and condition of the cattle must be taken into consideration. The animal should be in the final fattening stage and mature enough to cope with the increase of hormones. Whenever I hear about eating disorders it remains me of one of my cousin who had suffered from anorexia. It all started when her family and acquaintances started to say that she was fat and chubby. They tried to maintain or loose weight to a stay in shape. There are many other sports were athletes have eating disorders. Some examples are track, swimming, cross country, youth football and other sports. In order to maintain their weight most of them eat less and they over exercise to keep them in shape. A person with eating disorder typically suffers from a body image disturbance that can impact many areas his or her life. • 12. Effect Of Anaerobic Respiration On Yeast In this experiment, my group designed our own experiment in which we explored anaerobic respiration using yeast by measuring the rate of fermentation and examining the amount of carbon dioxide produced by active yeast. We did this by obtaining one mole of sucrose, glucose, and fructose and testing their effects they had on fermentation in a water and yeastmixture. Fermentation is more often referred to as anaerobic respiration, which takes place in the absence of oxygen, and yeasts are single celled fungi, often used in commercial bread and alcoholic beverage production. Anaerobic respiration is helpful to the body because it helps produce lactic acid in the muscles when exercising, and stops your body from overworking itself. During alcoholic fermentation, cells break down glucoseto form ethanol and carbon dioxide, as well as two ATP molecules. I hypothesized that if the same amount of glucose, sucrose, and fructose are added to a solution, then the rate of fermentation will increase, varying among the sugars. My null hypothesis stated if the same amount of sucrose, glucose, and fructose is added to the solution, then no reaction will occur. To start our experiment, we created our control that was filled with water heated to sixty degrees Fahrenheit, then added a yeast packet to the water and mixed the solution. Next, we acquired one mole of sucrose, glucose, and fructose. The independent variables in our experiment included sucrose, glucose, and fructose, while the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teaching ESL Writing (Final Paper) Teaching ESL Writing At times the plethora of professional journals and the myriad subjects treated therein seems like little more than a dizzying exercise in redundancy and a forum for education professionals to justify their worth in a competitive job market; however, I would like to think that there is a hidden value for those of us whose brains seem to operate in what some might call a spiral rhetorical pattern, that as we work our way around and around certain issues related to composition instruction, we are moving gradually upward toward broader understanding and better practice. Some studies seem to do little more than show the need for more studies, their authors falling back on such standard phrases as, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which of these holds most true, in general, is what I ve set out to discover, in hopes that I will find a hidden font of knowledge addressing the singular needs of ESL students with LDs and how teachers do, or can, meet those needs. The possibility that my first reason mentioned above might be true leads to a political can of worms I d prefer to leave unopened; therefore, I ll concentrate on the third choice that LD students who are also learning English as a second or other language are merely going unrecognized due to the masking of LD symptoms behind communicative difficulties resulting from the hardships inherent in non native language learning. According to Descartes , As I think about this more carefully, I see plainly that there are never any sure signs by means of which being awake can be distinguished from being asleep. This is the fundamental principle of the Dreaming Argument. The scenarios in which we experience whilst we are asleep are comparable to the scenarios we experience whilst we are awake. Often, we struggle to tell from our own perspective where our experiences are derived from; it is difficult to differentiate whether our experiences stem from reality or our dreams. Descartes argues that there is no way that we can be completely certain that such experiences are not unconscious experiences, Any experience that strikes me as waking experiences such that I am perceiving the environment in a normal way are indistinguishable from possible dreaming experiences. An objection to this argument is that we can distinguish being awake and being asleep. If we can remember our dreams once we are awake, we can recognise them as dreams as they generally don t make sense which differs from our logical conscious experiences. Dreams are usually only coherent for a short period of time which is a distinct difference from being awake. Once we are conscious, even our most vivid unconscious experiences can be recognised as dreams. Your waking experiences can be intensely recalled whereas you do not always remember your unconscious experiences. How to Calculate Beta How to Calculate Beta Beta refers to the volatility of a particular stock compared against the volatility of the entire stock market or, in practice, a representative index of that market, such as the Standard and Poor s (S amp;P) 500. Beta is an indicator of how risky a particular stock is and is used to evaluate its expected rate of return. Beta is one of the fundamentals stock analysts consider when choosing stocks for their portfolios, along with price to earnings ratio, shareholder s equity, debt to equity ratio and other factors. If the stock s rate of return is 7 percent and the risk free rate is 2 percent, the difference would be 5 percent. 4. 4 Subtract the risk free rate from the market (or index) rate of return. If the market or index rate of return is 8 percent and the risk free rate is again 2 percent, the difference would be 6 percent. 5. 5 Divide the difference in the stock s return rate minus the risk free rate by the market (or index) rate of return minus the risk free rate. This is the beta, which is typically expressed as a decimal value. In the example above, the beta would be 5 divided by 6, or 0.833. * The beta of the market itself, or its representative index, is by definition 1.0, as the market is being compared against itself and any nonzero number divided by itself equals 1. A beta less than 1 means that the stock is less volatile than the market as a whole, while a beta greater than 1 means the stock is more volatile than the market as a whole. The beta value can be less than zero, meaning either that the stock is losing money while the market as a whole is gaining (more likely) or that the stock is gaining while the market as a whole is losing money (less likely). * When figuring beta, it is common, though not required, to ... However this presumption is dispelled early on, as one examines the issues behind the often comparable wording. Many elements in The Schoolboy do echo those in The Echoing Green and visa versa, but the atmospheres of each poem that are presented are so different that it becomes difficult to see how two such contrasting pieces of work can unite in the same genre. The use of the word drives is quite strong and terminates the flowing nature of the previous verse, and the repetition of a summer morn allows one to contrast the two verses. From hence forward, The Schoolboy continues with a fairly negative tone, switching from the first person, I drooping sit to a more philosophical stance towards the end, How shall we gather what griefs destroy? . The stoical conclusion I feel demonstrates the implications of education, and shows that, if buds are nipped , one not only damages childhood but also runs the risk of establishing a long term effect on the individual, later on in life. An entity with two or more members can be classified either as a partnership or as an association, which is taxed as a corporation. An entity with only one member has an option to be taxed as a corporation or can choose to be disregarded as an entity separate from its owner. That entity cannot choose partnership classification because a partnership, by definition, has two or more partners. A disregarded entity is a business entity with one owner that is not recognized for tax purposes as an entity separate from its owner. Therefore, the taxpayer is treated as a sole proprietorship and the individual must report all income and losses on their own tax return. Foreign business organizations are categorized by default classifications and must elect to be taxed differently on Form 8832, same as domestic entities. A foreign business entity where all owners have limited liability will be treated as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Again, Phineas explained to the headmaster, that wearing the school tie as a belt, contributed to the war effort. All he had to do was explain it, and he never got in trouble again. The campaign was formed by several groups working together to try and get investors to pull out of private prison deals (Magee 49 50). It was easy for them to get scared that other parts of branches of the government would become privatized seeing as a piece of the judicial branch already had. To reduce povertyit is important for societies to accept development strategies. What exactly is development and how can it be achieved? In the analysis of the differences between the Dependency and Modernization Theory, it is important to primarily point out the disagreement between both theories on the causes of underdevelopment. The Modernization Theory believes that underdevelopment is a product of the traditions and culture of countries. The argument made by David Brooks for the situation in Haiti is one example which portrays the views of this theory. He considers the religion and culture as constraints for Haiti to come out of its poverty. In his article he states that the voodoo religion followed by the Haitians spreads the message that life is capricious and planning futile. Theorists such as Lipset and Harrison claim development can only be achieved if people change their views from traditional to modern. A traditional view, according to them, is one in which life is integrated in the family, where much importance is given to status and where people themselves limit growth. A modern view, on the other hand, is one where the individual comes first and growth is encouraged in all ways. In contrast, the Dependency Theory blames the developed world for the underdevelopment of the poor countries. In other words, this approach believes that the economic dependency which exists between the North and South is the cause of underdevelopment.
