Team building strategies are paramount in our everyday life ranging from work life to home life. The
truth it, there are various factors that must be considered whenever team building is established or
worked on. Also, there are numerous methods that are used throughout different businesses,
corporations, and organizations. This writer will be discussing cellular production method and its
different forms of team building. Then, this writer will be examining whether if this method applies to
the final project idea. This writer will also be exploring what aspects of cellular production work and
do not work with the corporation of choice for the final project. While also providing some useful
suggestions, as to how team building can improve, what it consists of? To the various aspects of
cellular production method. Also, this writer will be discussing what difficulties can be faced then
team building is being established? While reflecting on ideas obtained from 2 journal articles by
Lofgren (2012) and Calhoon (2008), and textbook by Meredith Shafer (2013). Team Building Team
building can be established in a number of ways, it is largely dependent not only on management but
also on a willing team that wants to work together. Team building starts in childhood and knowing
how to share, and thus working together on whatever game is presented. As life continues, team
building is a large fundamental aspect in everyone s life in school to university level. Furthermore, all

Scottsboro Trial Analysis
Beware: Injustice Ahead!
Rape is considered a very serious topic and is not taken lightly, however it was different in this case. It
was taken as a joke and it was laughed about rather than frowned upon. Justice was snatched away
because of this vulgar joke . The Scottsboro Boys Trial, that took place in Alabama from 1931 to
1937, revealed the consequences of false accusations, explained the loss of innocence, and established
the miscarriage of justice.
The Scottsboro Trials had set a limit to falsely accusing someone and created a legacy of racism that
had never been forgotten. Also discovered aboard were two white female millworkers, Victoria Price,
age nineteen, and Nancy Bates, age seventeen. Fearful that they, too, would be arrested, ... Show more

This letter from Haywood Patterson shows exactly that: Anything might happen at such a place and
then again I had received several threats on my life and they would not give me any Medical attention
there and worked me quite hard every Day when I couldn t hardly get around my leg. You see they
sent me right out of the Hospital one day and the next day I was put to work (Kinshasa 186). This
proves how Haywood Patterson was being treated in a brutal way and was not given any medical
attention which is only one example of the miscarried justice. Patterson had not been shown the proper
respect because he was being worked too hard when he was ill. If this was not because of the color of
his skin then what other reason would it be? First, they had been given unprofessional and ineffective
legal counsel a real estate lawyer and an elderly attorney who had not tried a case in decades who
offered no witnesses or closing arguments to the jury. Then the testimonies of the boys themselves
conflicted with one another, as six denied the rapes entirely while the other three alleged that the six
had committed the acts; the boys later stated they lied about the rapes because they had been beaten
and threatened ( Scottsboro Boys Trials ). The boys had their mouths taped shut because they had been
beaten and threatened which is another example of miscarried justice. They were destined to lose this
case because they were given a lousy counsel and lawyer to fight for their justice. How could there be
such a lack of

Make-A-Wish Foundation Paper
To grant wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience
with hope, strength and joy (Make A Wish® America, 2015) is the mission of the world s most well
known and respected charity in the United States. The Make A Wish Foundation is a charitable
organization that grants children with life threatening medical conditions their one dream in life.
Fittingly for an organization that once relied largely on grass roots support, the Make A Wish
Foundation did not begin as a formally organized national body. Instead, its roots sprang from the ad
hoc efforts of family and friends focused on the plight of one child, Christopher Greicius, who wished
more than anything else to be a police officer. This single ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to researcher Lindner (1998), motivated employees are needed in our rapidly changing
workplaces to aid in the survival of organizations. Not only is it important to meet the needs of the
consumer, it is equally important that to make sure that associates are taken care of and remain
motivated. For this reason, Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly and Konopaske (2012) states much of
management s time is spent addressing the motivation of their employees (p. 125). According to the
Encyclopedia of Small Business (2007), employee motivation is the level of energy, commitment, and
creativity employees bring to their jobs; the inner force that drives individuals to accomplish personal
and organizational goals (Lindner, 1988). Despite its obvious importance, employee motivation can be
an elusive quest for managers due to the multiplicity of incentives that can influence employees to do
their best work. The reality is that every employee has different ways to become motivated and the
knowledge of how to motivate them is key to organizational success. It is imperative that employers
get to know the personal needs and wants of their employees in order to establish tactics in which to
motivate each of them. Once achieved, managers are in a better position to encourage and reward
employees to behave in effective ways (Gibson et al, 2012, p.

I Worked For Bruce Davis
This campaign season, I worked for Bruce Davis. Bruce Davis was the Democratic candidate chosen
in the primary to run for House of Representatives in the Thirteen District in North Carolina. This
campaign season was not a traditional one in comparison to what I ve studied of past campaign s. Our
world has changed with the creation of social media and campaign s have changed with it. In our
campaign we had to look harder to find a proper strategy for using social media to are advantage and
think outside the box. Bruce Davis chose to give his intern s and his staff free reign to come up with
ideas to move our campaign into modern times. These ideas will be discussed throughout this paper. I
will discuss my personal experience, which was an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were fighting an uphill battle especially with the lack of support by the Democratic party. Another
huge factor about this congressional district that must be considered in this race. Bruce Davis would
be the first African American to represent this particular electoral district. The fact that Bruce is an
African American is huge part of the context in our district.
After analyzing the electoral district and the demographics in each of the counties we figured out that
we were dealing with a largely white majority. In the thirteen district: made up of parts of Guilford
County, Davie County, Iredell, Davison, Rowan County white people make up 79.5 % of district.
African Americans on average make up 15.88%. And the Hispanic population is less then 10% in
every district accept Guildford County. We discussed this with Bruce in our meeting s because we
needed to come up with a plan to stop people immediately dismissing Bruce because of racial
discrimination which is still very prominent in the south and worldwide. We decided that when we
handed out literature in this particular rural highly republican areas wouldn t put his face on literature.
That way he wouldn t be immediately judged by the color of skin and maybe they could focus on
issues he stood for. Other important demographics in this congressional district show that on average
we were looking at more republican s then democrat s

Landscaper s Job Essay
The highest rated dimensions of a landscaper s job include utilizing machinery and equipment,
planting and maintaining flora and communication between crewmembers. Landscapers do not require
much formal education or training. However, they must be able to properly operate heavy equipment
machinery such as riding lawnmower, skid steers and snowplows. These abilities are crucial and often
will not be taught unless you have worked at a company for a long time. Tasks relating to the ability to
operate said machinery are some of the most frequently performed duties by a landscaper.
Landscapers may spend full days strictly cutting grass or if it has snowed and remained icy, checking
lots and removing snow many mornings or nights in a row. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wearing the appropriate safety accessories such as high visibility clothing, eye protection, and
earmuffs are the responsibility of a landscaper. These requirements are crucial to both the safety of the
employee and the future of the company as the company could be found noncompliant with strict
safety regulations implemented by both government and private sector rules, for example, a train
station site may have stricter safety regulations than a strip mall site. The job of a landscaper is usually
physically demanding and upper body strength, as well as stamina, is required to perform repetitive
tasks with their arms and torso, as well as stand and walk for long period of time. Often when
trimming, landscapers are moving their arms back and forth for hours on end. The ability to keep their
arms locked while utilizing hand eye coordination and adjusting their eyesight to both close up and far
distances are some of the other physical requirements necessary to complete their duties. This job
description may be unable to be generalizable because of the focus on the roles and duties of
landscapers at one company. Although there is a distinction between landscapers, outdoor
architectures, garden planner, arborous and so on, some other landscaping companies may specialize
in certain aspects of outdoor maintenance that were not a focus of this job analysis or description. The

Discovery Of Pulque Essay
The Discovery of Pulque, 1869, by Jose Maria Obregón, this painting is an oil on canvas piece. It was
commissioned by what some may call a renaissance man. He was a play writer, art critique and a poet.
He wanted Obregon to paint this historic scene because he believed that King Tecpancaltzin was one
of his ancestors. King Tecpancaltzin is one of the main subjects in this painting. The main story being
told in this painting is the story of King Tecpancaltzin receiving the first cup of pulque. Looking at the
left side of the painting the viewer can see servants coming into the throne room. One of the woman
servants is holding a cactus which is where the pulque comes from. Below this woman sits another
woman who is carrying the bad that carried the pulque. Continuing right along the painting you see
Xochitl mother holding the jug to pour the pulque. Alongside her mother is Xochitl who is also
standing beside her father. She is also presenting the bowl of pulque to King Tecpancaltzin. Obregon

Outsourcing Practices of Adidas, Converse, Nike, and Reebok
Outsourcing Practices of Adidas, Converse, Nike and Reebok Introduction Apparel and shoe
manufacturers continued to offload the more costly yet easily replicated part so their business models
to concentrate on brand building, marketing, sales and attaining greater distribution channels globally.
These are the pressures all apparel and shoe manufacturers face, and it is particularly challenging in
the athletic show industry (Kynge, 2009). Adidas, Converse, Nike and Reebok have been outsourcing
production of their shoes for in some cases nearly three decades. Nike was one of the leaders in this
strategy, seeing to create a more efficient supply chain and also drop the labor and union costs of
manufacturing in the U.S. (Boje, Khan, 2009). Adidas, Converse and Reebok have all followed Nike s
lead, with Adidas benefitting from the fall out generated when investigate reports showed Nike using
child labor throughout Pakistan and Vietnam (Boje, Khan, 2009). All four of these companies share a
common prioritization of manufacturing operations, yet none of them with the exception of Nike has a
comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in place to ensure ethical compliance
to global standards of outsourcing in their industry (Nike Investor Relations, 2012). The intent of this
analysis is to compare and contrast the four companies mentioned and their outsourcing practices.
Their reasons for choosing to outsource are very much the same; the industry is shrinking

The A New Product, Sodium Thiosulphate, And Then Daguerre...
In 1839, Herschel was the first to use a new product, sodium thiosulphate, to fix images forever. This
was later implemented by Fox Talbot and then Daguerre for his own daguerreotype.
In 1851 Scott Archer learnt that you could use collodion soluble guncotton dissolved in a mixture of
ether and alcohol to attach solver compounds to glass, the negative/positive process became dominate.
The photographer would have to prepare the collodion glass plates and expose them while they were
still wet. Processing in developer, to blacken the exposed parts, and fixing, to dissolve the remaining
parts had to take place immediately. Location photography therefore required a darkroom tent. Time
exposure were as always a necessary with the camera firmly secured to a tripod. This process
continued to dominate for the next thirty years, Archer who selflessly donated the collodion process to
posterity, died in 1857 at the age of 44, in extreme poverty.
The Daguerreotype seemed to be invincible. From 1840 a decade of success followed the
Daguerreotype, a notable reduction in exposure time, it was then gradually supplanted by the process
of collodion on glass that brought together great detail and the ability to produce numerous prints.
Many say that the inhibiting of British photography in the first decade may have been because of
Daguerre who patented his process in England. Also Fox Talbot patrolled his patents with inhibiting
zeal. Unlike Fox Talbot, Daguerre had taken little active

Disadvantages Of Science In Mining
Science in Mining
Introduction: There is a lot of physical strengths involved in mining. However, before people mine any
landscape, they need people like: geologists, mathematicians, biologists, engineers, economists,
geographers, and other experts from narrower areas (mineralogists, geophysicists petrologists) to plan

fauna, locals or people living around that area and the land itself).
A: Sciences: There are 2 major types of sciences that mining critically needs: Location

These are: Geography, Geophysics, Economic Geology, Math.
Extraction extracts/identifies types of rocks/soils, uncovers origin/deformation and helps to recover
the land.
These are: Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology, Structural Geology, Mining Geology, Mining
Engineering.
B: Various types of Sciences help in mining of ores minerals.
Geochemistry helps to measure and identify properties/types of minerals in given environment.
Geography provides with a correct location and information about land.
Geophysics provides with information (e.g. temperature maps) about subsurface characteristics:
geological structure, groundwater, impurities human artifacts.
Economic Geology shows the rates/cost of certain metals/minerals, gives predictions about lifetime of

Reflection About Values
Life these days takes a toll on us when we least expect it. It is important to remain yourself and focus
in when curveballs are thrown. By doing this we are exhibiting to our issues, consequences good with
the bad, and tribulations that we are ready for whatever is thrown our way. Lessons taught to us at a
young age by our parents, peers, and other outside influences help mold our decisions. As an African
American female growing up on the Southside of Chicago outside influences helped deter me away
from a lot of the decisions and actions I could have made which could have taken me on a different
path. Each day growing up values were introduced to us that are used now as an adult. Growing up we
don t think much about how we live, who we will be in great depth, and what our values are, but over
time that changes. A lot of my strengths, values, and interest mesh well and have geared me to a path
of success because those lessons make me who I am. Values are core beliefs that influence everyone
daily whether we are intentionally utilizing them or not. Ultimately, those values measure our worth
and show how important something may mean to us. A lot of the values that have stuck with me
through life because of my grandparents who I spent a lot of time with as a child, and eventually they
were court ordered as my legal guardians. One important value I use today and I remind myself
always is to be open minded. This is a very important skill for me being an athlete, nanny, and

The Welfare State Essay
HISTORY OF THE WELFARE STATE: The role and significance of the Beveridge Report in
establishing the Welfare State in Britain.
The purpose of this essay is to look at the long history of the Welfare State in Britain and the evolving
social, economic and political changes in society today, as well as the birth of the Welfare State after
the Second World War which was the turning point (watershed) in British History. The freshly
appointed Labour government by then took on the job of setting up a welfare state that would

became known as the Beveridge report. The British welfare state, if it is to be defined, it is generally

As much as the five giant differs from each other, there is a connection between the five of them, for
example, unemployment in society causes people to lack financially and this can lead to lack of good
medical care, want, poor housing and etc. The Five giant evils; Want, essentially this refers to poverty
or lack, during the post war a lot of the British people were in need, they had no basic financial
support and health care to keep them alive as well as keeping them above the poverty line by which
income does not cover necessities. Due to lack of financial support people could not afford education
and this resulted in lack of knowledge which is referred to as Ignorance, this was due to poor
education. To make matter worst there was no national health care because, this had to be paid for, but
there was no money and medical care was not free and this led to the outbreak of many diseases such
as cholera, this was also linked to want, no money no medical care. Nevertheless, there were hospitals
and only the rich in society could afford medical treatment, however, today the welfare state had made
medical treatment available for all regardless of employment status. People were living in slums
because there was poor housing and this was referred to as squalors, there is no

Diet Is The Right Fit
This table provides a quick glance at what each diet provides.
With this information someone can choose which diet he would like to try. Each person is different
and has different tastes so not everyone will pick the same one of these options. Once the choice is
made based on personal preferences the person should take a few months before deciding how he feels
about the diet. This amount of time is long enough for a habit to form. Habits generally take 21 days
to form but this time span also allows the person to see if they get the result they want and decide what
they think about it. If the person feels like the diet he choose is more of a burden but still wants to try
other diets, he should go back to evaluating the information he originally found and choose another
one. He can continue to do this until he found the diet that is the right fit for him and does not feel like
a chore, or until he thinks it is too much of a high involvement. One of our group members showed
high involvement when looking into each diet. Since it was something she did not know about she put
in information to see the results she would get for each diet.
For each diet she put in her age, 21, height, 5 5 , current weight,145 lbs, and weight goals,130 lbs. The
Atkins diet did require more information like what size her waist was, if she was pregnant or
breastfeeding, no, if she was prediabetic or diabetic, no, and if she prefered a more flexible diet or a
strict diet, flexible. Based on her

Why Is Uranus Unique
Uranus
Uranus is a very a very unique planet. It s different because of its tilt, color and a somewhat different
surface. Uranus is different than other planets in our solar system. It does have a tilt, odd color and a
different surface, but why? Technically there isn t a surface to uranus. If anyone tried to land on the
surface of uranus the spacecraft would sink through and fall down to the planet s icy core. The reason
for this os because the planet is made up of mainly hydrogen and helium making it a gas planet. At the
core of the planet there are water like elements, such as methane and ammonia. The planet is referred
to as the ice giant because of the temperatures. This planet is also blue because the methane in Uranus
upper atmosphere takes in the red light from the Sun and then reflects the light absorbed back into
space. This is why Uranus appears to be blue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Uranus lies 98 degrees off of its normal axes. The reasoning to this is that uranus rotates clockwise
when all the other planets rotate counter clockwise. Essentially this makes Uranus upside down.
Another fact is that most planets are off their axes a little bit. Earth is off its axis by 23° and jupiter 3°.
In theory, if uranus rotated normally it would be off by 8 degrees. A normal planet is off by 30°s at
most. The reason why Uranus is so cold is because it s 1.784 billion miles away from the sun. Uranus
is the 7th planet from the sun it is right after saturn. The distance isn t the only factor to why this
planet is so cold. Scientists believe that long ago the planet lost all its heat due to major activity in the
atmosphere. Uranus is 224° celsius. Making it colder than the 8th planet away from the sun,

Gilgamesh and Ramayana
An Epic Definition There was a time when gods and demons roamed the earth. A time when humanity
lived at the mercy of divine beings, who executed their wills against the humans, following their own

is one of great men who fought against these demigods, giving them great fame passed on as stories in
the oral tradition. Though it is unrealistic to believe that these men truly fought against divine beings,

Toys And Its Impact On Children And Their Performance Of...
Toys play an important role in childhood development as children learn roles and skills from playing.
As a result, the toys children are subjected to have an affect on which roles, interests, and skills are
learned and practiced. Through Lego s product Duplo, I will demonstrate the influence particular
gendered toys have on children and their performance of traditional gender roles. Gender, which is a
learned performance, is something society has been taught from a very early age and toy advertising
has played a significant role in reinforcing the performance. One tradition that is reinforced and
naturalized by society is the ideology of a male dominated society, representing strong characteristics
of heterosexuality and masculinity; also known as hegemonic masculinity. Therefore, using
Ideological Criticism, I will analyze how through the branding and design of Lego s Duplo toys,
children have been constructed to do gender differently, ultimately perpetuating and reinforcing
hegemonic masculinity.

Not every person is a suitable candidate to be in the leadership of a company. It may be because they
do not want the reasonability and extra obligation to being in charge of other individuals, or they are
not successful in the position. It is important to have the right people in command of other personnel
because it will lead to violence, unproductive work and the failure of a business. Traits that make a
good leader include, being organized, taking care of your employees, understanding the task at hand
and meeting deadline and many more qualities. However, if it is present, there is an important
characteristic of a manager that will lead to the decrease in confrontations among their employees and
it is communication. In an article it states, A manager with strong communication skills is able to
instruct as well as he listens. Managers who can communicate effectively can process information and
then relate it back to their teams clearly. Effective managers should be able to understand, decipher,
and relate the organization s vision back to their employees in order to maintain productivity. (Dario,
Priolo) Communication will go a long way in a workspace. If there is a positive flow of messages
between employees, this will result in less confusion. Usually, issues occur when there is a lack of
communication because workers get confused, they do not have the right idea of what needs to be

Tesco Porter Value Chlain and Environmental Analysis
1.
Porter s Value Chain is a chain of activities for a firm operating in a specific industry. According to
Lynch (2003) it can defined as the links between key value adding activities and their interface with
the support activities. The five primary activities namely inbound logistics, operations, outbound
logistics, marketing and sales and service are more important in value adding process than support
activities: firm infrastructure, human resources, technology development and procurement, so focus
will be given to primary activities as they are crucial for distinguishing the strengths and weaknesses
of Tesco s performance. The overall cost leadership strategic management of Tesco is exhibited in its

Tesco is one of the largest food and grocery retailer in the world operating around 4,400 stores (Tesco,
2010). The business environment in which company operates is a highly turbulent competitive
segment, which according to political, social events, performance of global economy and technology
developments is constantly changing. Pestel, SWOT, Porter s Five Forces are frameworks that can be
used to discuss and evaluate recent changes in Tesco external environment.
The waves of globalisation and privatisation have a great impact upon retailing sector, which changed
radically over last two decades. In the past Tesco could be content to sell to a local or regional market
and make a decent income. In today s world all successful businesses are going global in order to
maximise profits and take advantage of untapped markets. The changes, except of globalisation
aspects involve advancements in technology, rise in competitive rivalry, political, legal issues and
marketing.
Technology is playing a vital role in the expansion of global retail. Consumers can find most of the
products they buy online, through various retailers, compare prices, thus choose the best offer.
Companies like Tesco must have a large online presence if they want to be successful over a long
period of time. Tesco must compete with other retailers on price and/or try to provide benefits in other
ways. This lead to

Research Paper On Sucker By Carson Mcculler
Sucker Research paper In the story Sucker, by Carson McCullers, you see heavy use of the human
condition that every negative action originates from a negative mood or emotion and every positive
reaction comes from a positive mood or emotion. In the story the elder cousin Pete treated his younger
cousin, Sucker AKA Richard, based on how he was treated by Maybelle. When Maybelle treated Pete
poorly and ignored him, Pete did the same to Sucker. This caused the young boy Richard to develop
emotional problems, which caused his relationship with his cousin to be broken and tainted, due to the
cascade of negativity. Sometimes this look in his eyes makes me almost believe that if Sucker could

The Islamic State Of Iraq And Al Sham
Most Americans do not know what ISIS is. However, those who do know , know how dangerous these
people are becoming. The Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham also known as ISIS, an Al Qaeda
affiliation is not only alive but spreading and spreading fast. The group started out in Iraq as the world
known Al Qaeda before rebranding themselves. Though both jihadi groups strived to establish an
independent Islamic state in the region of Iraq , ISIS believes in a much more brutal regimine.
Threating to take over both Iraq and Syria, killing and beheading both their own and American/British
foreigners in the name of their faith. The United States should refrain and stop all involvement in
fighting ISIS.
ISIS which is also known by other names such as ISIL or the Islamic State, arised around 1999 in Iraq
as a group of extreme Sunni Muslim Jihadists. Extreme jihadism is the practice of extremely agressive
interpretations of the Jihad and of Islamic fundamentalism. Though every muslim somewhat follows
their own Jihad , this group has taken it to another level both believing it is right to kill and behead in
the name of god. After Americas invasion of Iraq was over , and with the neighboring civil war in
Syria , the brutal group has been able to gain alot of power in the past couple years and seems to be
gaining even more now.
ISIS main goal is to establish a Caliphate that is based on the Sharia law. The Sharia Law is a
combination of following what the Quran, Hadiths, and fatwas

Neil Postman
Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and
regions, only to realize that although new methods develop, language as a way of expressing ones self
has remained the most effective. Despite this fact, language still has its pitfalls. Neil Postman, in his
essay #8220;Defending Against the Indefensible, #8221; outlines seven concepts that can be used to
aid a student in better understanding the language as a means of communication. He describes how
modern teaching methods leave a student vulnerable to the #8220;prejudices of their elders #8221;,
further stating that a good teacher must always be skeptical. He urges teachers of all subjects to break
free from traditional teachings as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postman argues that if a student were to see hidden meaning in a word, then they could use it to their
defense. It is my belief that Postman may be correct now, what about in the future. If attention were
turned to smaller words, then surely our vocabulary will diminish, and the same thing that happened to
words such as true, and false, will happen to words such as semantic, and pedagogical. Vocabulary
tests should be left as they are. If a student wishes to study words of everyday use, read a book, or
watch television. The next principle was thought provoking as well. The use of a metaphor as a tool in
education is rarely used, as Postman notes. #8220;Unless our students are aware of how metaphors
shape arguments, organize perceptions, and control feelings, their understanding is severely limited.
Postman displays how most political speeches are laced with metaphors, and how teacher #8217;s
methods are shaped by a metaphor. A student who doesn #8217;t understand a metaphor, or when it is
being applied tends to have a more closed outlook. A metaphor, used as a communication skill, is best
described in a political way. Think of Reagan #8217;s Voodoo economics, or Bill Clinton building a
bridge to the 21st century. Politicians can easily scam an ignorant voter, should one not understand a
metaphor. For example: Clinton refers to building a bridge, but does not tell us with which tools he

The Secret History Analysis
The second oral interpretation assignment I did was much more free in a creative aspect than the first
assignment I did, this time I was able to pick the passage from any book and I picked my favorite
book, The Secret History by Donna Tartt. This passage was meant to entertain the audience and also
convey a message, which was the main purpose of the assignment. In addition to the passage I chose, I
also wrote a brief introduction that provided some background information about the book and the
overall message the passage was conveying. Overall, after reflecting on the presentation, I came to the
conclusion that I did a decent job on this oral communication project but it was not as good as my first

How Does Harper Lee Use Gender Bias In To Kill A Mockingbird
In Harper Lee s, To Kill A Mockingbird, she illustrates conflicts in modern day society. Classism and
Gender Bias were common terms during the 1930s. During this time, segregation was strongly
observed, Lee uses this knowledge to create racial tension between classes and genders. Her
characters represent all areas of life in the South. In Harper Lee s novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, she
illustrates classism and Gender Bias through the characters of Aunt Alexandra, Atticus Finch, and Bob
Ewell. Gender Bias is the act of basing what a person can do based on sex/gender. A great example of
this in To Kill A Mockingbird is when Aunt Alexandra tells Atticus that he has let Scout s non ladylike
behavior go on to the point where it s becoming embarrassing

Analysis Of Any Hope Of Ever Seeing You Again By Eugenio...
Eugenio Montale was an Italian poet who was named the Greatest Italian poet since Leopardi (Hecht).
He was a hopeless romantic and that translated into his poetry and was the theme for most of it aswell,
and the poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again is no exception. The poem Any Hope of Ever
Seeing you Again portrays two different sides to a story and can be interpreted in many ways due to its
style of writing.
Eugenio Montale was born in Genoa in 1896. In WWI he wa an infirmary worker and later chief
literary critic for Italy with the Corriere Della Sera. He was a music critic, translator and was made a
lifetime member of the Italian Senate in 1967. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1975. He
died six years later in Milan, 1981. In 1927 he fell in love with a married woman who he nicknamed
Mosca which means fly. It is believed that this was borrowed from Ben Jonson s Volpone. Montale
stayed devoted to her until her husband died in 1958. They were married until Mosca died five years
later. He also met an American author named Irma Brandeis who influences some of his work, which
mostly revolves around unattainable love. She made him feel better through the Fascist years, so when
they became separated, he used what he was feeling and put it into poetry.
Montale wrote his poetry during an era where the theme amor de lonh, love from afar, was popular,
which is also tied to donna angelicata or angelic lady. Donna angelicata is mostly tied to
communication attempts to an allusive lover. His poems are often really personal, including a lady
figure with many names, some of which including Gertu, Liuba, Vixen, Dora and others. Some of the
influencers for his poems include Plato, Shakespeare, Petrarch and The Bible. His poems almost
always deal with fragmentary experience, the meaning of which is either obsucr or possibly,
terrifyingly absent. In Montales Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again , the last five lines portray strong
imagery, which makes the author maybe be destitute or could be seen as the author carrying some kind
of burden. In line six the poem contains descriptive words such as distorted and tenuous which
Convey deep emotion (Bella). The use of these words create a depressing aura in this

They believe just by having them we could hurt the world. Many want them gone because of the
power that they contain and the power they give. Others say that nuclear weapons affect mankind, and
that it will destroy mankind for good. They want a worldwide ban on nuclear weapons because if they
get into the wrong hands it could go drastically wrong. Many other people believe that if we get rid of
nuclear weapons for good, then we will have complete world peace. They think that the world will be
so much better off without weapons with so much power. People think that with nuclear weapons
comes war. The way they want to get rid of the nuclear weapons is by dismantling them and throwing
them away. Could you imagine getting rid of over 14,900 nuclear weapons? The cost of just doing that
would be millions alone. Many people believe that nuclear weapons are the worst thing that mankind
has invented and that they should be eliminated for good. People say that it affects the climate and
animals, well they only affect the climate if the weapon is used. The countries that have the majority
of the nuclear weapons are at peace with one another. They don t want to start war with each other,
because they know of what can happen if they do. People need to worry about other things that are
affecting the climate and animals the most. Pollution being one of the most worrying. Thus saying that
it hurts the climate the most is not true and we shouldn t even be worried about it.

Myths Of The Knife
The knife is one of the oldest tools used by humanity so it should come as no surprise that there are
almost as many myths about knives as there are types of knives. These myths are not just some old
folk tales told around a camp fire but myths that are actually thought to be true in the present day time.
There are myths about how to care for knives and myths about how to use them. They all have
something that sticks in the mind or they would not have lasted long enough to become myths. Any
buyer looking to purchase knives should know why these myths are false so that you can make wise
buying decisions when purchasing your very own knife.
Myth 1: Some Knives don t need to be sharpened

When you get injured by a knife, it means you got cut buy it in some form or another. Thinking like
this would mean that knife that does not cut well is less likely to injure the user. The problem with this
thinking is that dull knives require more force to actually complete the cutting action, which in turn
makes the user more likely to lose control and accidentally injure themselves because the knife went
somewhere it should not have gone.
Myth 3: Harder Blades Stay Sharp Longer
While hardness definitely is a factor in how sharp an edge a blade can hold, there is thing as a blade
being too hard. The problem is that blades that are only hard also are brittle and hence prone to
breaking. Brittle blades can easily chip, losing their original edge and so become jagged and dull. If
your blade will last long then it needs to be resilient. Hardness alone is not enough.
Myth 4: Giving a Knife as a Gift Severs Relationships
This is one of the oldest and dumbest knife myths that are still around. The idea behind this thinking is
that because a knife is a cutting implement, giving one to someone means that the giver is cutting the
ties that bind people (them) together. Needless to say, there is no grain of truth to this myth; It is a
perfect example of the kind of magical thinking that symbols can have a direct effect in the real

Although Berlin commanded that the operation was to be continued as planned, Best had one more

The Killer Angels By John M. Skipper Essay
History 1301 John M. Skipper
The Killer Angels is a historic backstory of the days leading up to the Civil War. The story is told from
multiple viewpoints including Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet, George Meade, and Winfield Scott
Hancock. It is mentioned the Army of Northern Virginia is moving behind the Blue Ridge Mountains,
and that the Army of Potomac is also moving, but is traveling very slow. This is one of the
characteristics which plagued them throughout the war. Shaara gives insight to the background of both
Armies. He described the Confederates as a unified group with soldiers of the same background, while
the Union is the exact opposite. Its men are very divided soldiers fighting for unification. There is one
similarity between the two sides which stands out more than all the others; both sides are ready for the
final showdown. Shaara gives insight into this by hinting towards the conflict, yet never telling the
reader directly. This causes the reader to be drawn deeper into the story anticipating what will happen
next.
There are illustrations showing movement of the Confederate and the Union armies, an epilogue, and
an afterword stating the events after the Battle of Gettysburg. In the foreword, Sharra tells the reader
the purpose of the book is to educate the reader on the history of the battle, but also give insight into
the soldier s thoughts. Sharra also writes that out of all the historic writings about the battle, he chose
to use letters,

The Power Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
What is the American Dream? Is it wealth and power? Or is it liberty and freedom? The American
Dream is different for every individual. In Gatsby s case, his dream revolves around the pursuit of
Daisy. The Declaration of Independence states, All men are created equal, that they are endowed by
their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and pursuit of
Happiness. This statement compresses the wide array of American Dreams into one statement. The
pursuit of happiness is different for every human being. Gatsby s dream was to rise out of a low
economic level and into high wealth, winning Daisy over along the way. The dream of finding fortune,
fame, and true love is something that almost all Americans strive for (Galley). Gatsby was too
ambitious in the pursuit of his dream. During his struggle for Daisy, he failed to recognize that his
vision was not attainable. The American Dream causes corruption in the world. Jay Gatsby
symbolized the quest for the American Dream. He had an extraordinary gift for hope... such as I have

These messengers are neither good nor bad but depend on how an individual wishes to use them. This
is the foundation of Voodoo but it changes as the slave trade carries slaves to Haiti. In Haiti, Voodoo
takes on a new look and purpose. With individuals from different tribes in Africa coming together in
Haiti and sharing similar beliefs, the religion begins to incorporate influences from them all. This
however was not the main function of Voodoo, it was to unite the slaves and achieve freedom. At
meetings, plans for escaping and other ideas were shared with each other while at the same time
keeping the religious beliefs alive. It also played a role in the uprisings of the slaves on Haiti. With
Voodoo priests uniting the people, it was also forming an army to fight for slaves freedom. The priests
would then call for spirits to protect them in battle so they would have nothing to fear. This helped to
create the Haitian Voodoo cult into an organized, ritualistic, and hierarchical religion. With the slaves
winning freedom, Voodoo became an influential part of daily life in Haiti. The final phase of Voodoo

Summary Of The Fatal Environment By Richard Slotkin
This painting shows a Native American tribe on a snowy hill. They are watching a train pass by
diagonally below them. The party appears to be travelling somewhere together. Several of the
individuals are horseback riding while the others are walking. It´s looks like they are fleeing from
something, almost as these people are vanishing away from reality. This Trail of Tears that they are
riding/walking on was the the path that displaced North American Indian tribes from their land east of
the Mississippi River to the Indian Territory, the area that later became Oklahoma. The term Trail of
Tears comes from a text that describes the movement of the Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole,
Chickasaw and Choctaw Nation. Several thousands of these Indians ... Show more content on

Slotkin illustrates the emergence by 1890 of a myth that was redefined to help Americans answer the
misperception and conflict of the industrialization and grand extension. In The Fatal Environment,
Richard Slotkin proves in what way the myth of frontier growth and defeat of the Native Americans
helped to validate the progression of Americas final stand as a symbol for whatever Americans feared
might occurred if the frontier were to be closed, and the violent part be allowable to rule the civilized,
Slotkin displays the rise by 1890 of a fable redefined to support Americans answer to the
misunderstanding and contention of industrialization and grand extension.
Sweeney is comparing The Fatal Environment to The Morning of a New Day.
He argues that the reason why Farny s Morning of a New Day attract few imitators is because of the
ambivalent image of the fatal environment within it. The fact that it represents the genocide of the
Native American tribes was the result the dominant bourgeois group s belief in its self proclaimed
manifest destiny to take the West from the Native Americans by military conquest, through
technological and entrepreneurial superiority, or if necessary by outright theft. (Page 141)

Sustainable Growth And Sustainable Development
Sustainable development. A concept that has only recently become highlighted and pursued by the
international community. In a country like Nigeria, there is focus on economic growth on the
sustaining of their people, not the interest of the environment, however this trend is beginning to
change as the country is moving toward a future of power from alternative sources, such as solar
power and wind power (Our Objectives, n.d.). Sustainable development, according to the Brundtland
Report, meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to the
meet their own needs. (IISD) The United Nations has been at the forefront of this drive for a more
sustainable, namely with the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which highlight
not only environmental aspects, but also societal (human right based) (e.g. No Poverty, focus on
Gender Inequality). Prior to the creation of the SDGs, were the Millennial Development Goals
(MDGs) during the beginning of the 21st Century, which eventually became the SDGs. The SDGs
implemented several new points that seemingly filled the gaps , so to speak, left by the MDGs. These
goals were adopted in September of 2015 with an expected fruition date of 2030 (Madeley 2015).
The issue being addressed is the path of countries in their quest for growth and sustainable
development, as a result. For many, there is a shared sentiment that developing countries should not be
put in a position to where they are

intervention programs, extracurricular activities, education and home and family life have on juvenile
offenders. A juvenile offender is defined as a child or young person who has been found guilty of
some offence, act of vandalism, or antisocial behavior before a juvenile court (Gelber, 1979). The
articles used in this paper are used to inform the reader of various ways to help reduce the recidivism
rate of juvenile offenders. Some of the articles explain the advantages and others explain the
disadvantages of the various programs.
Keywords: recidivism rate, juvenile offenders, reducing juvenile recidivism
Reducing Juvenile Recidivism The juvenile population is society s future and juvenile recidivism is
increasing. Recidivism refers to a person s relapse into criminal behavior, often after the person

Christina Ankeny s Last Letter Home
February 24th 1863 My Dearest Cousin Christina Ankeny, We have received your kind gift on the
14th of this month. We were glad to hear from you and especially that God had saved the life of your
husband, in the Battle of Vicksburg. I am always thankful for the preservation of my relatives.
Specially during deadly conflict, where many, very brave men lost their lives. It is God s mercy that
my son and 3 grandsons were spared, and without even a slight wound on any of them. Christina let us
appreciate, thank, and praise the lord for his kind care over our relatives. Who have gone forth, and
sacrificed their lives, for the conservation of our country. I cannot believe the murderous people that
have rose up to destroy the best government in this world. I cannot believe the hell the rebels have put
us through with numerous robberies and murders. They must be stopped and our government
preserved. The cost of what it may be, our country is worth fighting for. Fighting for the great homes
the brave men have, that house their loved ones. For I know first hand what it is like having served 2
years and 6 months in the war of 1812, and now the civil war. Leaving my wife and my son in her
arms in 1812, who now has 3 sons of his own. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

relatives. Please thank them for there kindness to you and that lovely nephew of mine. I am, as
always, praying for your husband to returned to you after the last gun is fired at the rebels, and for you
that you remain in God s mercy in such difficult times. I look forward to hearing from you my dear
cousin. Please write often Christina

Life Of Pi Internal Conflict
2. One of the main conflicts of the Life of Pi is that between Pi and himself. For 227 days, Pi was at
sea with thoughts to himself thinking of how he was alone and orphaned, in the middle of the Pacific
(Martel 107). Being by yourself in the ocean with no idea of if you are going to survive can lead to
negative thoughts. Especially since Pi could only rely on himself. While he did have Richard Parker,
he couldn t talk to Richard and expect a reply. His conversations were too himself and he had to
remain sane through this internal conflict. Along with this, he has a conflict with himself and his lack
of knowledge on how to survive at sea. Pi had many questions on his survival like What would I eat?
What would I drink? How would I keep the sharks away? How would I keep warm? How would I
know which way to go? (Martel 147). The answers to all of his questions were things ... Show more

Despite Pi s internal conflict with himself, Pi experiences a great conflict with Richard Parker,
depending on how the reader interprets the book. It is one of the most obvious conflicts of the Life of
Pi and is resolved when Pi and Richard Parker reach land. Upon reaching land, Richard Parker simply
leaves, much to Pi s disappointment. The event is highly unceremonious and Pi says he was certain he
would turn my way. He would look at me. He would flatten his ears...In some such way, he would
conclude our relationship. He did nothing of that sort (Martel 284). It was a resolution that went out in
a whimper in both Pi s opinion, as well as my own. While Pi is displeased with this heart wrenching
conclusion, I am satisfied with it. I do wish that Richard Parker did have that one final look at Pi, but I
think this simple conclusion brings out a certain emotion in Pi, along with the reader, that would not
occur had there been an extravagant ending. This conclusion brought me an immense sadness and
longing, almost as if I were Pi in the situation, and I think writing of that power is

Histopathology has played an important role in the understanding of diseases which in turn helps to
provide an accurate diagnosis in a timely manner. According to Lord Carter s review of NHS

It is highly important to maintain the original tissue architecture as much as possible during the course
of diagnostic procedures. Fixation prevents cellular degradation from lack of blood supply or bacterial
putrefaction and preserves soluble proteins by forming cross linking, thereby protecting them through
tissue processing stages (Drury and Wallington, 1980, Eltoum et al., 2001). When fixed specimens are
received by the laboratory, creating unique identifying number while cross checking with the patient
profile is essential to prevent misdiagnosis. Standard histopathology procedures include grossing or
cutting up, tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, mounting to slides, analysing via microscopes
and reporting the diagnosis. Specimens are put into appropriately labelled cassettes and if needed,
dissection to thin and uniform slices should be done. Then, the specimen cassettes go through a
scheduled tissue processing system, consisting of reagents such as alcohol, xylene or histoclear and
paraffin wax. The processed specimens are then moved to embedding station where they are
embedded in paraffin using suitable moulds, placed in a correct orientation. Microtomy is crucial to

  • 3. Scottsboro Trial Analysis Beware: Injustice Ahead! Rape is considered a very serious topic and is not taken lightly, however it was different in this case. It was taken as a joke and it was laughed about rather than frowned upon. Justice was snatched away because of this vulgar joke . The Scottsboro Boys Trial, that took place in Alabama from 1931 to 1937, revealed the consequences of false accusations, explained the loss of innocence, and established the miscarriage of justice. The Scottsboro Trials had set a limit to falsely accusing someone and created a legacy of racism that had never been forgotten. Also discovered aboard were two white female millworkers, Victoria Price, age nineteen, and Nancy Bates, age seventeen. Fearful that they, too, would be arrested, ... This letter from Haywood Patterson shows exactly that: Anything might happen at such a place and then again I had received several threats on my life and they would not give me any Medical attention there and worked me quite hard every Day when I couldn t hardly get around my leg. You see they sent me right out of the Hospital one day and the next day I was put to work (Kinshasa 186). This proves how Haywood Patterson was being treated in a brutal way and was not given any medical attention which is only one example of the miscarried justice. Patterson had not been shown the proper respect because he was being worked too hard when he was ill. If this was not because of the color of his skin then what other reason would it be? First, they had been given unprofessional and ineffective legal counsel a real estate lawyer and an elderly attorney who had not tried a case in decades who offered no witnesses or closing arguments to the jury. Then the testimonies of the boys themselves conflicted with one another, as six denied the rapes entirely while the other three alleged that the six had committed the acts; the boys later stated they lied about the rapes because they had been beaten and threatened ( Scottsboro Boys Trials ). The boys had their mouths taped shut because they had been beaten and threatened which is another example of miscarried justice. They were destined to lose this case because they were given a lousy counsel and lawyer to fight for their justice. How could there be such a lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Make-A-Wish Foundation Paper To grant wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy (Make A Wish® America, 2015) is the mission of the world s most well known and respected charity in the United States. The Make A Wish Foundation is a charitable organization that grants children with life threatening medical conditions their one dream in life. Fittingly for an organization that once relied largely on grass roots support, the Make A Wish Foundation did not begin as a formally organized national body. Instead, its roots sprang from the ad hoc efforts of family and friends focused on the plight of one child, Christopher Greicius, who wished more than anything else to be a police officer. According to researcher Lindner (1998), motivated employees are needed in our rapidly changing workplaces to aid in the survival of organizations. Not only is it important to meet the needs of the consumer, it is equally important that to make sure that associates are taken care of and remain motivated. For this reason, Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly and Konopaske (2012) states much of management s time is spent addressing the motivation of their employees (p. 125). According to the Encyclopedia of Small Business (2007), employee motivation is the level of energy, commitment, and creativity employees bring to their jobs; the inner force that drives individuals to accomplish personal and organizational goals (Lindner, 1988). Despite its obvious importance, employee motivation can be an elusive quest for managers due to the multiplicity of incentives that can influence employees to do their best work. The reality is that every employee has different ways to become motivated and the knowledge of how to motivate them is key to organizational success. It is imperative that employers get to know the personal needs and wants of their employees in order to establish tactics in which to motivate each of them. Once achieved, managers are in a better position to encourage and reward employees to behave in effective ways (Gibson et al, 2012, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bruce Davis was the Democratic candidate chosen in the primary to run for House of Representatives in the Thirteen District in North Carolina. This campaign season was not a traditional one in comparison to what I ve studied of past campaign s. Our world has changed with the creation of social media and campaign s have changed with it. In our campaign we had to look harder to find a proper strategy for using social media to are advantage and think outside the box. Another huge factor about this congressional district that must be considered in this race. Bruce Davis would be the first African American to represent this particular electoral district. The fact that Bruce is an African American is huge part of the context in our district. After analyzing the electoral district and the demographics in each of the counties we figured out that we were dealing with a largely white majority. In the thirteen district: made up of parts of Guilford County, Davie County, Iredell, Davison, Rowan County white people make up 79.5 % of district. African Americans on average make up 15.88%. And the Hispanic population is less then 10% in every district accept Guildford County. These requirements are crucial to both the safety of the employee and the future of the company as the company could be found noncompliant with strict safety regulations implemented by both government and private sector rules, for example, a train station site may have stricter safety regulations than a strip mall site. The job of a landscaper is usually physically demanding and upper body strength, as well as stamina, is required to perform repetitive tasks with their arms and torso, as well as stand and walk for long period of time. Often when trimming, landscapers are moving their arms back and forth for hours on end. The ability to keep their arms locked while utilizing hand eye coordination and adjusting their eyesight to both close up and far distances are some of the other physical requirements necessary to complete their duties. Outsourcing Practices of Adidas, Converse, Nike, and Reebok Outsourcing Practices of Adidas, Converse, Nike and Reebok Introduction Apparel and shoe manufacturers continued to offload the more costly yet easily replicated part so their business models to concentrate on brand building, marketing, sales and attaining greater distribution channels globally. These are the pressures all apparel and shoe manufacturers face, and it is particularly challenging in the athletic show industry (Kynge, 2009). Adidas, Converse, Nike and Reebok have been outsourcing production of their shoes for in some cases nearly three decades. Nike was one of the leaders in this strategy, seeing to create a more efficient supply chain and also drop the labor and union costs of manufacturing in the U.S. (Boje, Khan, 2009). Adidas, Converse and Reebok have all followed Nike s lead, with Adidas benefitting from the fall out generated when investigate reports showed Nike using child labor throughout Pakistan and Vietnam (Boje, Khan, 2009). All four of these companies share a common prioritization of manufacturing operations, yet none of them with the exception of Nike has a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in place to ensure ethical compliance to global standards of outsourcing in their industry (Nike Investor Relations, 2012). In 1851 Scott Archer learnt that you could use collodion soluble guncotton dissolved in a mixture of ether and alcohol to attach solver compounds to glass, the negative/positive process became dominate. The photographer would have to prepare the collodion glass plates and expose them while they were still wet. From 1840 a decade of success followed the Daguerreotype, a notable reduction in exposure time, it was then gradually supplanted by the process of collodion on glass that brought together great detail and the ability to produce numerous prints. By doing this we are exhibiting to our issues, consequences good with the bad, and tribulations that we are ready for whatever is thrown our way. Lessons taught to us at a young age by our parents, peers, and other outside influences help mold our decisions. As an African American female growing up on the Southside of Chicago outside influences helped deter me away from a lot of the decisions and actions I could have made which could have taken me on a different path. Each day growing up values were introduced to us that are used now as an adult. Growing up we don t think much about how we live, who we will be in great depth, and what our values are, but over time that changes. A lot of my strengths, values, and interest mesh well and have geared me to a path of success because those lessons make me who I am. Values are core beliefs that influence everyone daily whether we are intentionally utilizing them or not. Ultimately, those values measure our worth and show how important something may mean to us. A lot of the values that have stuck with me through life because of my grandparents who I spent a lot of time with as a child, and eventually they were court ordered as my legal guardians. • 15. Diet Is The Right Fit This table provides a quick glance at what each diet provides. With this information someone can choose which diet he would like to try. Each person is different and has different tastes so not everyone will pick the same one of these options. Once the choice is made based on personal preferences the person should take a few months before deciding how he feels about the diet. This amount of time is long enough for a habit to form. Habits generally take 21 days to form but this time span also allows the person to see if they get the result they want and decide what they think about it. If the person feels like the diet he choose is more of a burden but still wants to try other diets, he should go back to evaluating the information he originally found and choose another one. He can continue to do this until he found the diet that is the right fit for him and does not feel like a chore, or until he thinks it is too much of a high involvement. One of our group members showed high involvement when looking into each diet. Since it was something she did not know about she put in information to see the results she would get for each diet. • 16. Why Is Uranus Unique Uranus Uranus is a very a very unique planet. It s different because of its tilt, color and a somewhat different surface. Uranus is different than other planets in our solar system. It does have a tilt, odd color and a different surface, but why? Technically there isn t a surface to uranus. If anyone tried to land on the surface of uranus the spacecraft would sink through and fall down to the planet s icy core. The reason for this os because the planet is made up of mainly hydrogen and helium making it a gas planet. At the core of the planet there are water like elements, such as methane and ammonia. The planet is referred to as the ice giant because of the temperatures. This planet is also blue because the methane in Uranus upper atmosphere takes in the red light from the Sun and then reflects the light absorbed back into space. This is why Uranus appears to be blue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Uranus lies 98 degrees off of its normal axes. The reasoning to this is that uranus rotates clockwise when all the other planets rotate counter clockwise. Essentially this makes Uranus upside down. Another fact is that most planets are off their axes a little bit. Earth is off its axis by 23° and jupiter 3°. In theory, if uranus rotated normally it would be off by 8 degrees. A normal planet is off by 30°s at most. The reason why Uranus is so cold is because it s 1.784 billion miles away from the sun. Uranus is the 7th planet from the sun it is right after saturn. The distance isn t the only factor to why this planet is so cold. Scientists believe that long ago the planet lost all its heat due to major activity in the atmosphere. Uranus is 224° celsius. This time on earth is one of great men who fought against these demigods, giving them great fame passed on as stories in the oral tradition. Though it is unrealistic to believe that these men truly fought against divine beings, their stories played a role in the ancient world, which was the beginning of the formation of society and civilization. Gilgamesh slays two beasts, Humbaba and the Bull of Heaven; while in Ramayana , Rama s ultimate battle is against the demon Ravana. Gilgamesh s impending battle with Humbaba is of concern to both his subjects and Enkidu, both of which feel that he will not have success. Gilgamesh is successful in his battle with Humbaba and follows up his battle with another one against the Bull of Heaven, another divine beast that meets its doom at the hands of the great warrior. The defeat of these two great beasts gave Gilgamesh an even higher level of fame amongst his citizens; he was no longer a tyrannical ruler, but rather a great warrior. As a result, the toys children are subjected to have an affect on which roles, interests, and skills are learned and practiced. Through Lego s product Duplo, I will demonstrate the influence particular gendered toys have on children and their performance of traditional gender roles. Gender, which is a learned performance, is something society has been taught from a very early age and toy advertising has played a significant role in reinforcing the performance. One tradition that is reinforced and naturalized by society is the ideology of a male dominated society, representing strong characteristics of heterosexuality and masculinity; also known as hegemonic masculinity. Therefore, using Ideological Criticism, I will analyze how through the branding and design of Lego s Duplo toys, children have been constructed to do gender differently, ultimately perpetuating and reinforcing hegemonic masculinity. Lego s Duplo Series Context Billund, Denmark in the early 1900s. In the small village of Billund, Denmark, Ole Kirk Kristiansen began building his dream of toy manufacturing in a woodworking shop. Neil Postman Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and regions, only to realize that although new methods develop, language as a way of expressing ones self has remained the most effective. Despite this fact, language still has its pitfalls. Neil Postman, in his essay #8220;Defending Against the Indefensible, #8221; outlines seven concepts that can be used to aid a student in better understanding the language as a means of communication. He describes how modern teaching methods leave a student vulnerable to the #8220;prejudices of their elders #8221;, further stating that a good teacher must always be skeptical. Postman argues that if a student were to see hidden meaning in a word, then they could use it to their defense. It is my belief that Postman may be correct now, what about in the future. If attention were turned to smaller words, then surely our vocabulary will diminish, and the same thing that happened to words such as true, and false, will happen to words such as semantic, and pedagogical. Vocabulary tests should be left as they are. If a student wishes to study words of everyday use, read a book, or watch television. The next principle was thought provoking as well. The use of a metaphor as a tool in education is rarely used, as Postman notes. #8220;Unless our students are aware of how metaphors shape arguments, organize perceptions, and control feelings, their understanding is severely limited. Postman displays how most political speeches are laced with metaphors, and how teacher #8217;s methods are shaped by a metaphor. A student who doesn #8217;t understand a metaphor, or when it is being applied tends to have a more closed outlook. A metaphor, used as a communication skill, is best described in a political way. Think of Reagan #8217;s Voodoo economics, or Bill Clinton building a bridge to the 21st century. Politicians can easily scam an ignorant voter, should one not understand a metaphor. • 29. Analysis Of Any Hope Of Ever Seeing You Again By Eugenio... Eugenio Montale was an Italian poet who was named the Greatest Italian poet since Leopardi (Hecht). He was a hopeless romantic and that translated into his poetry and was the theme for most of it aswell, and the poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again is no exception. The poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again portrays two different sides to a story and can be interpreted in many ways due to its style of writing. Eugenio Montale was born in Genoa in 1896. In WWI he wa an infirmary worker and later chief literary critic for Italy with the Corriere Della Sera. He was a music critic, translator and was made a lifetime member of the Italian Senate in 1967. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1975. He died six years later in Milan, 1981. In 1927 he fell in love with a married woman who he nicknamed Mosca which means fly. It is believed that this was borrowed from Ben Jonson s Volpone. Montale stayed devoted to her until her husband died in 1958. They were married until Mosca died five years later. He also met an American author named Irma Brandeis who influences some of his work, which mostly revolves around unattainable love. She made him feel better through the Fascist years, so when they became separated, he used what he was feeling and put it into poetry. Montale wrote his poetry during an era where the theme amor de lonh, love from afar, was popular, which is also tied to donna angelicata or angelic lady. Donna angelicata is mostly tied to communication attempts to an allusive lover. His poems are often really personal, including a lady figure with many names, some of which including Gertu, Liuba, Vixen, Dora and others. Some of the influencers for his poems include Plato, Shakespeare, Petrarch and The Bible. His poems almost always deal with fragmentary experience, the meaning of which is either obsucr or possibly, terrifyingly absent. In Montales Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again , the last five lines portray strong imagery, which makes the author maybe be destitute or could be seen as the author carrying some kind of burden. • 35. The Killer Angels By John M. Skipper Essay History 1301 John M. Skipper The Killer Angels is a historic backstory of the days leading up to the Civil War. The story is told from multiple viewpoints including Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet, George Meade, and Winfield Scott Hancock. It is mentioned the Army of Northern Virginia is moving behind the Blue Ridge Mountains, and that the Army of Potomac is also moving, but is traveling very slow. This is one of the characteristics which plagued them throughout the war. Shaara gives insight to the background of both Armies. He described the Confederates as a unified group with soldiers of the same background, while the Union is the exact opposite. Its men are very divided soldiers fighting for unification. There is one similarity between the two sides which stands out more than all the others; both sides are ready for the final showdown. Shaara gives insight into this by hinting towards the conflict, yet never telling the reader directly. This causes the reader to be drawn deeper into the story anticipating what will happen next. There are illustrations showing movement of the Confederate and the Union armies, an epilogue, and an afterword stating the events after the Battle of Gettysburg. In the foreword, Sharra tells the reader the purpose of the book is to educate the reader on the history of the battle, but also give insight into the soldier s thoughts. Sharra also writes that out of all the historic writings about the battle, he chose to use letters, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Gatsby s case, his dream revolves around the pursuit of Daisy. The Declaration of Independence states, All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and pursuit of Happiness. This statement compresses the wide array of American Dreams into one statement. The pursuit of happiness is different for every human being. Gatsby s dream was to rise out of a low economic level and into high wealth, winning Daisy over along the way. The dream of finding fortune, fame, and true love is something that almost all Americans strive for (Galley). Gatsby was too ambitious in the pursuit of his dream. During his struggle for Daisy, he failed to recognize that his vision was not attainable. The American Dream causes corruption in the world. Jay Gatsby symbolized the quest for the American Dream. This is the foundation of Voodoo but it changes as the slave trade carries slaves to Haiti. In Haiti, Voodoo takes on a new look and purpose. With individuals from different tribes in Africa coming together in Haiti and sharing similar beliefs, the religion begins to incorporate influences from them all. This however was not the main function of Voodoo, it was to unite the slaves and achieve freedom. At meetings, plans for escaping and other ideas were shared with each other while at the same time keeping the religious beliefs alive. It also played a role in the uprisings of the slaves on Haiti. With Voodoo priests uniting the people, it was also forming an army to fight for slaves freedom. The priests would then call for spirits to protect them in battle so they would have nothing to fear. This helped to create the Haitian Voodoo cult into an organized, ritualistic, and hierarchical religion. With the slaves winning freedom, Voodoo became an influential part of daily life in Haiti. The final phase of Voodoo was the slave trade between Haiti and New Orleans. The party appears to be travelling somewhere together. Several of the individuals are horseback riding while the others are walking. This Trail of Tears that they are riding/walking on was the the path that displaced North American Indian tribes from their land east of the Mississippi River to the Indian Territory, the area that later became Oklahoma. Being by yourself in the ocean with no idea of if you are going to survive can lead to negative thoughts. Especially since Pi could only rely on himself.
