OSU Star Party Feb 13 2013
The Society of Physics Students is hosting a star party to observe Jupiter and its 67 moons, as well as the Earth's moon and other astronomical objects like the Orion Nebula, Pleiades star cluster, and the Andromeda Galaxy. The event will provide an opportunity to learn about Jupiter, Earth's moon, and view astronomical phenomena through telescopes while celebrating discoveries made by scientists like Galileo Galilei.

This causes uneven heating of land and water. There are three key differences in how land and water heat up: 1) Water is transparent while land is solid, 2) Land is solid while water can flow and circulate, 3) Water has a higher heat capacity than land and absorbs heat more slowly. These differences impact wind patterns and weather.

Heat can be transferred between objects in three ways: conduction, convection, and radiation. Conduction involves direct contact between objects, convection involves the transfer of heat by a fluid like air or water, and radiation transfers heat through electromagnetic waves without a medium. Materials expand when heated as the molecules move farther apart, requiring expansion joints in bridges to allow for expansion and contraction with changes in temperature. Thermostats also use bimetallic strips that expand at different rates to sense temperature changes and regulate heating and cooling systems.

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
