The document provides an evaluation of Benjamin Wincup's FMP project where he created a 1940s-style British news broadcast. In his research, he found useful examples of old British Pathé newscasts but did not use enough similar examples. His planning covered sound effects, dialogue, and ideas, though his final product changed. He managed his time well and finished early. Technically, he used appropriate 1940s accents, audio filters to make the recording sound old, and faded music in and out. In peer feedback, others felt the news broadcast captured the time period well but the narrator could be louder and effects quieter to improve understanding.

3. Research
• The good thing about my research is that I found out about older British
Pathé newscasts with music. They talk in short bursts with the music
fading in and out.
• The problem with my research is that I didn’t use enough similar
examples. I ended up using 3 podcasts that are completely different from
my final product.
• To improve, I would’ve looked around for more 40’s videos and audio
shows. I could find those in archives. This would probably have improved
my work by allowing me to understand the style better.
4. Planning
• I planned out the whole project, from the sound effects to the dialogue,
however I didn’t use much of it as my idea changed the more I did
research and production.
• I’m still happy with my planning as it shows that I had planned out much
more for my project.
• I ended up having conflicting ideas over sound effects as certain ones
didn’t fit with what I ended up using.
5. Time Management
• I think I’ve managed my time well as I’ve had plenty of time to finish and
infact, I finished earlier than expected.
• I think my schedule was good as it allowed me extra time to do touch ups
and finish it all off.
6. Technical Qualities
• In my project, I had to put on a
radio presenter from 1940s
England accent. I know that
this is the appropriate accent
as I have watched many films
and documentaries about and
from the era.
• I had to edit the audio to make
it sound old timey using On
Hold EQ and Old Timey Radio,
two different filters.
• I made some of the songs fade
in and out to add to the depth
and cut them up using the
razor tool.
Link to the podcast/documentary; The Big Three in Teheran
• The voice in the British Pathé is
his actual accent, but I tried to
emulate that.
• The audio sounds tinny in the
video as that was what the
quality of the recordings were
like in the 1940s.
• Both mine and the video ended
up being around 4-5 minutes.
• There’s songs in the British
Pathé video, but they fade out
when he talks and then back in
when he stops. I tried to do a
similar thing.
7. Aural Qualities
• I think that my work sounds good as it sounds like it’s from the
1940s and that was the goal. I also think that it was creative as I put
on a well spoken accent and I used music. I like how it sounds
authentic, but if I could do anything, I would add more music. The
only reason I couldn’t do this is because of copyrighted material.
8. Audience Appeal
I feel that my product appeals to my audience as it has an authentic
vibe which captures your imagination and immerses you into the story.
It’s almost as if you’re in the 40’s and listening to it on the radio.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like that the news cast what you did is about the second world
war and the way that you spoke in the podcast made it sound
even better. Another thing that I like about the news cast is the
crackling in the back gorund also makes it sound better and
more realistic
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• I would make the news cast maybe a minute more longer. I
would also make the speaker sound louder and the
crackling in the background maybe a bit quitter.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– The effects placed over the audio are very
authentic to the time period and the fading/rising
audio levels also mirror researched examples and
mimic the radio-cast well.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Some personal vocal range from the delivery, placing emphasis
on exciting or important information could have been used to
break up the speech more as it read very similar across all the
spoken narrative.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– The information told was really clear and allowed the listeners to
follow along with the story.
– I like the grain that was put over the audio, it really sounded like old
timey-radio.
– The voice the narrator was speaking in really added to the immersion
and made it sound like it was a real radio casting from that set time
period.
– The music chosen matched the theme of the podcast really well.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– Because of the accent put on by the narrator, some of the words were
hard to understand.
– The narrators audio could be a little bit louder.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree that I have made it as authentic as I can.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– I disagree that personal range could improve it, as
at the time, if you were on the radio presenting,
you’d have to keep a clear voice and not show
much emotion.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
• I would make the voice louder
and make the crackling quieter.
I think that this would help with
making it easier to understand
what was said.
