Research paper presented as part of ongoing professional development for Brazilians teachers of English in the United States - PDPI -Programa de Desenvolvimento Profissional para Professores de Ingles/CAPES Governo Federal

AnnMaria De Mars - Making Educational Games That Add UpSeriousGamesAssoc
Educational games share certain challenges with all serious games. A successful educational game needs to be both a good game and educational. Obvious, but many teams focus on one aspect and include either the game developer or educator as an after-thought. The result is either games that don’t teach or games that children won’t play. How do you determine at what level of mathematics (or any subject) a student should begin? How do you know if students learned something and how do you prove that your game was the cause? The educational component must target, teach, test and track. Is a game where the novelty effect never wears off an oxymoron? These questions will be answered, based on both the research literature, as well as our own data, from the first two years of research on using games to raise mathematics scores of students attending schools on American Indian reservations.
Developing a Serious Game to Improve Reading Comprehension Skills in Third Gr...IHCLab UCOL
The results of different evaluations about reading comprehension in Mexico are not positive. Different methods and techniques have been implemented to counteract such numbers, and the support of serious games (video games that both entertain and educate) is one of them. Recently, video games demand has increased in Mexico, which indicates that they are already a common place. This paper presents the development and usability evaluation of a serious game intended to supporting and improving reading comprehension skills of third graders (ages 8-9 years old) from Mexico.

Resumen: Our project is called bilingual education; it is aimed for students of 9th, 10th and 11th grades who love English and are eager to learn more. This group is made up at the beginning of the school year, and from the very beginning, the teacher explains the work methodology and sets the rules so students can decide whether they want to be part of the bilingual group or not. If they accept, they must attend the meetings and participate actively in all the activities. The goal is to provide training to these higher level students so that they can support the teaching of English in earlier levels. Students from 9th, 10th and 11th become mentors that accompany teachers in Elementary levels when teaching English.
Resumen: This workshop is about uses of technology in elementary school and some useful applications and websites which we use in our school for teaching and learning English. Some of the most important things to consider when teachers use ICTs to work with children include: respect for their learning styles, skills, needs, interests and internet use.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

4. School: I.E. Carlos Holguín Mallarino (Atocha and Pombo)
Grades: 6th-11th
Resources and pedagogical strategy: Making games with powerpoint.
At least one computer and a video beam are needed. The objective is
to create games that allow teachers to check students comprehension
of previous lessons and to motivate them to improve their performan-
ce in English classes.
Moments of the class:warm up/ wrap up
10. After five months these are the results:
A total average above 3 points
At least 60 % of the students with more than 3 points
Six or more students with more than 4 points
Less than 10% of the students under 2 points
We improve our performance. Keep working hard and you’ll
see that everything is possible to achieve.

11. Students enjoy to learn any subject by playing games
Games are useful tools to motivate extra efforts on students.
Teachers should not give up on their creative ability. Although there
are many resources in internet, they won’t have the same impact
than those made as part of the planning process.
Planning games always demands certain amount of time but once
it’s finish, it can be adapted to other topics and lessons.
