3. Research
Research was probably the biggest and longest power point I did. I
research stop-motion animation and analysed a clip from Wallace
and Gromit and Morph. Analysing clips similar to the style I planned
helped see how the professionals put it together. I also looked at a
picture from a selected scene to look at the way a shot was put
together. I checked the way the lighting was and worked out how it
was used, lamp light seemed to be a common feature. By analysing
clips it helped me to see how to make my clips a lot more smooth
and maintain a good shot.
The strengths of doing research helps you to see how the
professionals do something and also how to put together a good
shot in a sequence.
The weakness to my research was that I didn’t seem to always find or
look for the full amount of research. I managed to find articles but It
wasn’t easy to analyse and annotate them.
4. Planning
Planning my production went alright, I had an idea, I just had to find
a way to make it work. I chose to do stop-motion animation because
I wanted to try it, it may not have been the best option as I went into
it with lack of knowledge. I wanted to try it but perhaps I should have
played it safe and done something I had more idea and experience
and skill it. I loved my idea a lot though and I wanted to show I could
do something, make something good, I was way in over my head but
It didn’t turn out too bad but I must admit, I had lack of enthusiasm
to complete it due to self doubt. I was worried that I would not finish
on time or that I was never going to make it look great, everything
seemed to just go wrong but we managed to do it because we had
planned all the shots out, when and where they would be.
The strengths to planning are that you don’t just jump in without any
structure which means that you have something to follow and not a
stab in the dark.
5. Time Management
Time seemed to be so short but once I had the plan and tried getting
my head in gear I managed to plan the timings but due to weather
we couldn’t do outside shots so we had to use a fake garden
background made of plant pots and tree cuttings. Due to different
shots and how fast we moved to fix the dolls and trying to balance
them on the turf we had got, each scene could take somewhere
between 20mins-over an hour, there was no real time to it as there
was no way you could put a timing.
The strengths of time management are that it gives you a plan and
time frame to fit to
The weakness to this are that, in my animation as I explained before
you couldn’t plan times.
8. Audience Appeal
Looking back at my interviews and survey you can see what people
have asked there to be involved in the animation so I tried to put as
much as I could in and tried to keep it to what my audience had
chosen. In order to have a diversity one of the children are afro-
Caribbean and one of the Wildlife explorers are ginger, to create an
atmosphere surrounding as many diversities I could. This was to show
that it was a film for everybody and that there are no prejudices.
The actual video itself is a family friendly film set in the outdoors to
show the spirit of adventure and to create a nice environment and I
wanted to add in the comedic scene where the child gets mistaken
for a bear in the early light, automatically assuming for some crazy
reason there would be a bear in their local woods, hence the title
“jumping to wild conclusions”.
The surveys and interviews helped to see what an audience may look
for in an animation which then gave me the basis for my animation.
The only weakness to the survey and interviews are that questions on
10. Feedback 1
What did you like about the product?
It was really well animated and there was no
obvious movement mistakes
What improvements could have been
made to the product?
It could have a more detailed storyline as it seemed
quite jumpy
11. Feedback 2
What did you like about the product?
Its was interesting to watch, well made and good
colour used to make it stand out as well.
What improvements could have been
made to the product?
Could have slowed down on some bits so you
could read what was on the notes and
newspaper.
12. Feedback 3
What did you like about the product?
I liked the use of colour and style and the way it
was put together it made me smile when they
thought it was a bear not a person because of
what the girl was wearing and because they
only saw it from behind.
What improvements could have been
made to the product?
It ran smoothly but it was a bit fast and needed to
have longer on the title screens and newspaper
article.
13. Peer Feedback
Summary
What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
I agree that it went fast and could have done some
more detailed shots. They also told me they thought
the storyline could be hinted at more in the trailer. I
could have made a better quality of image for the
newspaper article so it stayed longer and the
heading was bigger and didn’t go so fast, just in
case you missed it.
What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
I do not disagree with any of my feedback.
14. Summary
If I were to do my product again I would be sure to make
my shots more detailed and smoother. In order to make
my newspaper article easier to read I would make the
heading bigger and slow down the speed of the image in
case people don’t fully finish reading it, same goes for the
title slides in between. If I were to do the whole of my FMP
again, I’d be sure to try something more simple.
