Shape Task
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like how similar the image is to the original, especially with the gradient background. I also like
the section of the penguin that has a gradient effect, as this makes it look more realistic and like
the original image.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to do this again, I would change certain shapes to make them slightly more realistic, e.g.
the feet, as they were very difficult to warp the shapes into place, but next time I would spend
more time working on the shapes that were more difficult.

Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the different tones I have used on this image to show the shadows and the highlights. I also
liked the realism of this image, as it was very similar to the original image, but still has some areas
that aren’t as realistic, but it makes a more interesting image.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to do it again, I would spend a bit more time working on the different highlights and
shadows, and try to make the hair look a bit more realistic.

Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the background of this image as it fits in with the theme of the film. I also like the text I
used on this image too.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to do this again I would spend more time on the golden snitch, which is the main centre
piece. I would spend more time on that to make it look more realistic and to add in extra detail in
places. I would also try to make the text of the quote look a bit better, as it looks like it isn’t quite
in the right places.
Text Based
Text Based
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I really liked the variety of texts we used on these images, as they are all used for different things,
so it was good to learn different methods of arranging the text in a more interesting way.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to do this again I would try lots of different methods of placing the text in different ways and laying it
out slightly differently each time.

What did you like about your image?
I liked the cartoon effect with the first 3 images, as it gives each image a unique look. I really liked
the last two with the coloured sections. With this effect you can control exactly how the image
turns out and can have many different looks with this effect which I really like.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to do this again I would focus more on the coloured shapes and try different methods of
selection to give different results.

Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the last few images on my image and the way that the dodge and burn tools helped to brighten and darken the image in
certain places.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to do this again I would make sure the idea I have drawn out and planned is actually possible to shoot, as I came up with
an idea but as soon as it got to shooting I didn’t have the option to shoot my original idea, given that I was shooting within
college. However, next time, I would come up with an idea that I can actually shoot with the resources I have.

Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the simplicity of this image as it isn’t too crowded with other objects, as it is just the character.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I were to do this again, I would definitely add in some shading or colour, to make the
image look more interesting and to give the character a bit more detail. I could also
add in detail to the background to make the character stand out a bit more.
Narrative Environment
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the different types of textures that I used in this image, as it makes the image look more
interesting and unique.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would try to include different types of textures and start to experiment with different textures that aren’t related to the item, i.e
brick texture on trees.

Story Overview
(Provide an outline of your story) Based on Little Red Riding Hood.
One day, there was two astronauts on the moon. An alien came along asking the astronauts if they had any
power to start his spaceship to come to Earth. They realised this was dangerous and said no. So the alien had a
plan to trap one of the astronauts in a bubble away from the other astronaut. The alien dressed in the same
clothes and used the same voice as the astronaut, and tried his best to make the other astronaut believe it was
his friend. The alien was so close to getting the power from the astronauts, but the astronaut noticed that the
other wasn’t eating any normal food, and then he started to notice other smaller things about the other that
wasn’t right. The astronaut realised it was the alien and kicked him off the spaceship and went and freed his
astronaut friend.

Audience
(Think about who you are targeting as your audience. Consider age, gender, class,
location and other characteristics which could define your audience.)
For my audience, I will be targeting boys aged 3-7. This book will be targeting no specific class as this book
can be read by anybody. It will be targeted at people in Britain as it will be written in English and also sold in
Britain. However, this book may also be read by people in other English speaking countries such as America
and Canada etc. This book will be targeted at young children but will be purchased by their parents/other
family/friends, meaning the book will have to look visually pleasing for the buyer as well as the children.
Production Methods
(Explain the methods you are going to use to produce your pages. Show us the
thinking behind your decisions for a more detail response)
I think the best method of production for me would be a mixture of shapes and rotoscoping. I find these
two methods the easiest and find they also work well together and can look quite professional. I will be
using shapes mostly for the backgrounds, but then using rotoscoping for the characters as I think they will
be the hardest part to do using shapes.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
I think that one of the strengths is the sizing of the
book, as it won’t be too small, which could be
difficult for a young child to read, but it isn’t too big
either.
I think the ideas for the production may be quite
difficult, as using rotoscoping may be quite time
consuming, which may not fit in with the time
allocated.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
I think that the idea is very unique, and it has an
interesting twist onto the classic Little Red Riding
Hood story.
I think the way that it is written could be made a bit
simpler, as it may be quite difficult to a young child
to understand what is happening.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
I think the target audience is a good fit for this story,
as the book sounds like it would be a really good
story for boys aged 3-7.
I think the 11 pages might be quite difficult to do at
a high quality, as there isn’t that much time to
produce the pages, so some pages might be not as
good as others.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
I think the ideas are quite strong, and it seems
there has been quite a bit of thought behind the
ideas, and how they link together to create a final
idea.
I think some of the other ideas could have been
developed a little bit more, as some of them have a
few weaker points than others.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
I feel as though the planning of the sizing of the
book is quite strong, as it is clear that you have
looked at previously published work, and chosen
the sizing that you think works best.
I feel as though the planning for the production may
need further work, as I feel as though rotoscoping
each character in different positions may be
pushing yourself a bit too much and you may
struggle to get it completed in time.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
I think the chosen idea is very strong because it fits
in well with the target audience, and I feel as
though it has a very interesting storyline.
I think that some of the other storylines could have
had some more planning, as there is only 2 mind
maps, when maybe doing one more could have
been a bit better to help decide.
Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
The majority of my feedback was fairly positive, which I am happy with, and the things I
need to improve on is very understandable, which I can easily make changes to.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I agree with the positive comments about the target audience and the sizing of the book
as there was quite a bit of thought behind it, and what would be most appealing to
young children, and the people who would be buying them the book.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
I disagree with the feedback about the simplicity of the storyline, as with the target age
group it would be very difficult to make the storyline any simpler and I feel as though it
would be simple enough for somebody aged 3-7.
Original Script
http://www.worldoftales.com/Little_Red_Riding_Hood.html
One day her mother, having made some custards, said to her:--
"Go, my dear, and see how your grandmother does, for I hear she has been very ill; carry her a custard and this little pot of butter."
Little Red Riding-hood set out immediately to go to her grandmother's, who lived in another village.
As she was going through the wood, she met Gaffer Wolf, who had a very great mind to eat her up; but he dared not, because of some fagot-makers hard
by in the forest. He asked her whither she was going. The poor child, who did not know that it was dangerous to stay and hear a wolf talk, said to him:--
"I am going to see my grandmother, and carry her a custard and a little pot of butter from my mamma."
"Does she live far off?" said the Wolf.
"Oh, yes," answered Little Red Riding-hood; "it is beyond that mill you see there, the first house you come to in the village."
"Well," said the Wolf, "and I'll go and see her, too. I'll go this way, and you go that, and we shall see who will be there first."
The Wolf began to run as fast as he could, taking the shortest way, and the little girl went by the longest way, amusing herself by gathering nuts, running
after butterflies, and making nosegays of such little flowers as she met with. The Wolf was not long before he reached the old woman's house. He knocked
at the door--tap, tap, tap.
"Who's there?" called the grandmother.
"Your grandchild, Little Red Riding-hood," replied the Wolf, imitating her voice, "who has brought a custard and a little pot of butter sent to you by
mamma."
The good grandmother, who was in bed, because she was somewhat ill, cried out:--
"Pull the bobbin, and the latch will go up."
The Wolf pulled the bobbin, and the door opened. He fell upon the good woman and ate her up in no time, for he had not eaten anything for more than
three days. He then shut the door, went into the grandmother's bed, and waited for Little Red Riding-hood, who came sometime afterward and knocked at
the door--tap, tap, tap.
"Who's there?" called the Wolf.
Original Script
http://www.worldoftales.com/Little_Red_Riding_Hood.html
Little Red Riding-hood, hearing the big voice of the Wolf, was at first afraid; but thinking her grandmother had a cold, answered:--
"'Tis your grandchild, Little Red Riding-hood, who has brought you a custard and a little pot of butter sent to you by mamma."
The Wolf cried out to her, softening his voice a little:--
"Pull the bobbin, and the latch will go up."
Little Red Riding-hood pulled the bobbin, and the door opened.
The Wolf, seeing her come in, said to her, hiding himself under the bedclothes:--
"Put the custard and the little pot of butter upon the stool, and come and lie down with me."
Little Red Riding-hood undressed herself and went into bed, where she was much surprised to see how her grandmother looked in her night-clothes.
She said to her:--
"Grandmamma, what great arms you have got!"
"That is the better to hug thee, my dear."
"Grandmamma, what great legs you have got!"
"That is to run the better, my child."
"Grandmamma, what great ears you have got!"
"That is to hear the better, my child."
"Grandmamma, what great eyes you have got!"
"It is to see the better, my child."
"Grandmamma, what great teeth you have got!"
"That is to eat thee up."
And, saying these words, this wicked Wolf fell upon Little Red Riding-hood, and ate her all up.

Development pro forma(3) (1)

  • 4. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like how similar the image is to the original, especially with the gradient background. I also like the section of the penguin that has a gradient effect, as this makes it look more realistic and like the original image. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to do this again, I would change certain shapes to make them slightly more realistic, e.g. the feet, as they were very difficult to warp the shapes into place, but next time I would spend more time working on the shapes that were more difficult.
  • 9. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the different tones I have used on this image to show the shadows and the highlights. I also liked the realism of this image, as it was very similar to the original image, but still has some areas that aren’t as realistic, but it makes a more interesting image. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to do it again, I would spend a bit more time working on the different highlights and shadows, and try to make the hair look a bit more realistic.
  • 12. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I liked the background of this image as it fits in with the theme of the film. I also like the text I used on this image too. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to do this again I would spend more time on the golden snitch, which is the main centre piece. I would spend more time on that to make it look more realistic and to add in extra detail in places. I would also try to make the text of the quote look a bit better, as it looks like it isn’t quite in the right places.
  • 15. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I really liked the variety of texts we used on these images, as they are all used for different things, so it was good to learn different methods of arranging the text in a more interesting way. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to do this again I would try lots of different methods of placing the text in different ways and laying it out slightly differently each time.
  • 21. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I liked the cartoon effect with the first 3 images, as it gives each image a unique look. I really liked the last two with the coloured sections. With this effect you can control exactly how the image turns out and can have many different looks with this effect which I really like. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to do this again I would focus more on the coloured shapes and try different methods of selection to give different results.
  • 24. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the last few images on my image and the way that the dodge and burn tools helped to brighten and darken the image in certain places. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to do this again I would make sure the idea I have drawn out and planned is actually possible to shoot, as I came up with an idea but as soon as it got to shooting I didn’t have the option to shoot my original idea, given that I was shooting within college. However, next time, I would come up with an idea that I can actually shoot with the resources I have.
  • 26. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I like the simplicity of this image as it isn’t too crowded with other objects, as it is just the character. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to do this again, I would definitely add in some shading or colour, to make the image look more interesting and to give the character a bit more detail. I could also add in detail to the background to make the character stand out a bit more.
  • 28. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I liked the different types of textures that I used in this image, as it makes the image look more interesting and unique. What would you improve if you did it again? I would try to include different types of textures and start to experiment with different textures that aren’t related to the item, i.e brick texture on trees.

  • 34.
  • 35. Proposal Dimensions (number of pages and page size) 11 pages at 28.1cm in length and 20.1cm in width. Story Overview (Provide an outline of your story) Based on Little Red Riding Hood. One day, there was two astronauts on the moon. An alien came along asking the astronauts if they had any power to start his spaceship to come to Earth. They realised this was dangerous and said no. So the alien had a plan to trap one of the astronauts in a bubble away from the other astronaut. The alien dressed in the same clothes and used the same voice as the astronaut, and tried his best to make the other astronaut believe it was his friend. The alien was so close to getting the power from the astronauts, but the astronaut noticed that the other wasn’t eating any normal food, and then he started to notice other smaller things about the other that wasn’t right. The astronaut realised it was the alien and kicked him off the spaceship and went and freed his astronaut friend. Export Format PDF Advantages: PDF’s are easy to create and have lossless compression. Disadvantages: PDF’s are harder to transfer and aren’t accessible on all software.
  • 36. Deadline February 3rd 2017 Audience (Think about who you are targeting as your audience. Consider age, gender, class, location and other characteristics which could define your audience.) For my audience, I will be targeting boys aged 3-7. This book will be targeting no specific class as this book can be read by anybody. It will be targeted at people in Britain as it will be written in English and also sold in Britain. However, this book may also be read by people in other English speaking countries such as America and Canada etc. This book will be targeted at young children but will be purchased by their parents/other family/friends, meaning the book will have to look visually pleasing for the buyer as well as the children. Production Methods (Explain the methods you are going to use to produce your pages. Show us the thinking behind your decisions for a more detail response) I think the best method of production for me would be a mixture of shapes and rotoscoping. I find these two methods the easiest and find they also work well together and can look quite professional. I will be using shapes mostly for the backgrounds, but then using rotoscoping for the characters as I think they will be the hardest part to do using shapes.
  • 37. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? I think that one of the strengths is the sizing of the book, as it won’t be too small, which could be difficult for a young child to read, but it isn’t too big either. I think the ideas for the production may be quite difficult, as using rotoscoping may be quite time consuming, which may not fit in with the time allocated. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? I think that the idea is very unique, and it has an interesting twist onto the classic Little Red Riding Hood story. I think the way that it is written could be made a bit simpler, as it may be quite difficult to a young child to understand what is happening.
  • 38. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? I think the target audience is a good fit for this story, as the book sounds like it would be a really good story for boys aged 3-7. I think the 11 pages might be quite difficult to do at a high quality, as there isn’t that much time to produce the pages, so some pages might be not as good as others. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? I think the ideas are quite strong, and it seems there has been quite a bit of thought behind the ideas, and how they link together to create a final idea. I think some of the other ideas could have been developed a little bit more, as some of them have a few weaker points than others.
  • 39. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? I feel as though the planning of the sizing of the book is quite strong, as it is clear that you have looked at previously published work, and chosen the sizing that you think works best. I feel as though the planning for the production may need further work, as I feel as though rotoscoping each character in different positions may be pushing yourself a bit too much and you may struggle to get it completed in time. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? I think the chosen idea is very strong because it fits in well with the target audience, and I feel as though it has a very interesting storyline. I think that some of the other storylines could have had some more planning, as there is only 2 mind maps, when maybe doing one more could have been a bit better to help decide.
  • 40. Feedback Summary Sum up your feedback. The majority of my feedback was fairly positive, which I am happy with, and the things I need to improve on is very understandable, which I can easily make changes to. Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why? I agree with the positive comments about the target audience and the sizing of the book as there was quite a bit of thought behind it, and what would be most appealing to young children, and the people who would be buying them the book. Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why? I disagree with the feedback about the simplicity of the storyline, as with the target age group it would be very difficult to make the storyline any simpler and I feel as though it would be simple enough for somebody aged 3-7.
  • 41. Original Script http://www.worldoftales.com/Little_Red_Riding_Hood.html One day her mother, having made some custards, said to her:-- "Go, my dear, and see how your grandmother does, for I hear she has been very ill; carry her a custard and this little pot of butter." Little Red Riding-hood set out immediately to go to her grandmother's, who lived in another village. As she was going through the wood, she met Gaffer Wolf, who had a very great mind to eat her up; but he dared not, because of some fagot-makers hard by in the forest. He asked her whither she was going. The poor child, who did not know that it was dangerous to stay and hear a wolf talk, said to him:-- "I am going to see my grandmother, and carry her a custard and a little pot of butter from my mamma." "Does she live far off?" said the Wolf. "Oh, yes," answered Little Red Riding-hood; "it is beyond that mill you see there, the first house you come to in the village." "Well," said the Wolf, "and I'll go and see her, too. I'll go this way, and you go that, and we shall see who will be there first." The Wolf began to run as fast as he could, taking the shortest way, and the little girl went by the longest way, amusing herself by gathering nuts, running after butterflies, and making nosegays of such little flowers as she met with. The Wolf was not long before he reached the old woman's house. He knocked at the door--tap, tap, tap. "Who's there?" called the grandmother. "Your grandchild, Little Red Riding-hood," replied the Wolf, imitating her voice, "who has brought a custard and a little pot of butter sent to you by mamma." The good grandmother, who was in bed, because she was somewhat ill, cried out:-- "Pull the bobbin, and the latch will go up." The Wolf pulled the bobbin, and the door opened. He fell upon the good woman and ate her up in no time, for he had not eaten anything for more than three days. He then shut the door, went into the grandmother's bed, and waited for Little Red Riding-hood, who came sometime afterward and knocked at the door--tap, tap, tap. "Who's there?" called the Wolf.
  • 42. Original Script http://www.worldoftales.com/Little_Red_Riding_Hood.html Little Red Riding-hood, hearing the big voice of the Wolf, was at first afraid; but thinking her grandmother had a cold, answered:-- "'Tis your grandchild, Little Red Riding-hood, who has brought you a custard and a little pot of butter sent to you by mamma." The Wolf cried out to her, softening his voice a little:-- "Pull the bobbin, and the latch will go up." Little Red Riding-hood pulled the bobbin, and the door opened. The Wolf, seeing her come in, said to her, hiding himself under the bedclothes:-- "Put the custard and the little pot of butter upon the stool, and come and lie down with me." Little Red Riding-hood undressed herself and went into bed, where she was much surprised to see how her grandmother looked in her night-clothes. She said to her:-- "Grandmamma, what great arms you have got!" "That is the better to hug thee, my dear." "Grandmamma, what great legs you have got!" "That is to run the better, my child." "Grandmamma, what great ears you have got!" "That is to hear the better, my child." "Grandmamma, what great eyes you have got!" "It is to see the better, my child." "Grandmamma, what great teeth you have got!" "That is to eat thee up." And, saying these words, this wicked Wolf fell upon Little Red Riding-hood, and ate her all up.
