Production Reflection
Josh Bailey
Process
At the start of producing my poster, I
thought the smartest thing to do would
be to first create the logo for my
franchise. Making this from scratch would
mean at it is impossible to copy or
plagiarise ideas.
This also means I can include this design
for my logo on the front page of my
script.
My logo was made on Photoshop using
the text tool and gradient tool. Making
my logo first meant I could instantly put it
on other products which is what I did
with my poster since I made that on
Photoshop as well
Personally I like my design of the logo
whether or not it will collaborate with my
poster and trailer is yet to tell but on it’s
own I like it.
Process
Like I mentioned, the logo that I had
produced for my FMP could be included
into my script and add an element of
professionalism to my work. I believe
leaving the cover of my script with
minimal detail makes the legitimacy of
my work more apparent. Because of its
resemblance to a professional script
written my movie writers I’m happy with
how my script cover turned out and look
forward to see how it will be perceived
when finished.
The script will be written on word which
I a change from the original plan of doing
it by hand, after doing my research I
found that not many writers tell stories
by hand anymore and after seeing
examples of ones with covers like these, I
drew inspiration and imported my logo
that I had made earlier
Process
I thought my design for my logo (the black
fading into the white) would go well with a
background of a similar design. What I
initially envisioned with my poster is
something like what I produced for my pre-
production layouts with two faces of
different characters being merged into
one. My ideas for the poster were made
possible by using Photoshop. Mainly it was
the gradient tool and blending effects that
helped me achieve this contrasting
imagery.
So far I’m enjoying working on the poster; I
enjoy working with Photoshop as a whole,
hopefully I know what tools to use and
effects to put on when it comes to adding
in my images.
Process
Here I started to add the tag line,
small-print credits, logos
(production companies) as well as
the rating for the film.
It also looks more professional this
way but still as enough space for a
picture or an image to attract
attention. The main tool I used in
this session was the text tool as I
had the tagline and a lot of fine
print to write, after typing it all I
had to adjust the blending effects to
make it match the style of tone of
the poster which is ultimately light
and dark (good & bad) here is
where I think my poster starts to
come together and seems to show
more of what my film is about i.e.
the line “they will stop at noting”
Process
The page above is the last page of my
script. While writing it, inspiration was
definitely taken from my experiment script
that followed the story of a man looking
for his lost son, I took the idea of that and
adapted it into a plot that would be more
relevant and easier to produce and film.
The pages below show my script for
chapter 1 in full, I made the differences
between dialogue and camera shots/stage
commands different enough to understand
and hopefully not cause confusion
Nearly all work for this final product was
made and produced on Word apart from
the film logo which was created on
Photoshop.
The quality and relevance of my final script
is not for me to decide yet I know that the
appearance and layout for it ae
aesthetically pleasing and look real. In that
regard I am happy with how it turned out.
Process
Since importing my photos I took of two of my actors
to use especially for the poster, my poster seemed a
lot more full and fitting. The images of the actors
were always supposed to be the main attention
catcher for the audience and I think it does It’s job in
my final edit of the poster.
The faces were embedded into my posters
Photoshop document and then cut in half and
merged together. After that the blending tool was
used to get that effect of one half to be shaded in
black and the other coated in white.
For me my poster was fun to make and though not
outstanding I find it original and of good quality. It
captures the tone I wanted and has the appearance
of poster or a crime and mystery film which was the
overall plan for the poster. Looking back on it one
change I would make is additional colour, wen
planning the layout for my poster, both actors were
supposed to be red rather than black and white
Process Here I started to make my movie
trailer using premiere pro for editing.
Firstly I had to use my phone to copy
over all the clips I recorded for it over
to the OneDrive so I could access them
on college computers.
After putting all my clips in the right
order, in time with the music and
leaving room to add my graphics with
text featuring a tagline as well as some
of the cast members.
I believe once the credits are included
and the title card is shown the
duration of my finall cut for the trailer
will be right for wht the film is about. It
doesn’t give away too much and
doesn’t lack detail simultaneously.
It’s hard to tell at this point how my
trailer will end up but from starting to
add the music and transitions I believe
it looks promising.
Process
These are some screenshots taken from the
final cut of my trailer. As you can see I filled in
the gaps of the trailer with black graphics and
white writing. This is an easy way to catch a
viewers attention while watching the trailer.
The text also has fading transitions to try
match the tone of the film.
The other screenshots are supposed to take
place and different times throughout the
short film. And although the product isn’t
shot in full, the pieces from the trailer give a
good initial idea of what to expect from it.
Watching my trailer from start to finish leaves
me with mixed feelings about it, on one hand
the music fits almost perfectly with jump cuts
and different camera angles, a lot of the
transitions are well timed and tie in with
other products but on the other hand. The
audio could be better and the imagery and
shots could be less colourful and darker to
furthermore add the level of seriousness to
the genres the film is supposed to be in.
