2. Sketches
These are the early sketches that I drew to design my logos and the annotation shows
why I designed them this way.
This shows the early sketch of my first logo. I had the initial idea of having the
name of a company projected out of a retro film projector so I drew this logo
and then started searching for an image on the internet that I could take and put
into this logo. I didn't plan an having any colour in the logo so added none, it
wasn't until I started making it that I decided to add colour to the text so that it
would stand out.
This sketch shows the second logo in planning. I had the idea of having
some sort of skyline and this name idea but before. I drew it I looked at
skylines on the internet as photographs are often very specific and it would
have been difficult for me to have drawn one without looking at an image.
However I went for the image seen in a future slide which is not a
photograph and it a silhouette type image. I drew a moon first but got rid of
this during creation as it didn’t fit with the rest of the design.
3. Photoshop Logo Design
These screenshots show each component of my two logos and each layer that created the
finished logo.
This is the initial photo that I used to create the logo, it is a taken picture from the
internet showing a film projector. I used this as this has an obvious connection and
link to cinema and moving image along with being a good image. Furthermore I
wanted an image where I could make the company name project out of a film
projector and the look of this image made it ideal.
In the first editing stage of my logo I edited out the light from the projector and
made the image black and white. I did this to create a more different and stylish
logo along with adding the retro and old fashioned image of the projector. I also
wanted to change the original image to distance my logo from it and make it more
my work.
This screenshots show me initially putting text into the picture fort he name of the
company. I chose the font as it looked presentable and professional along with not
being overly attention grabbing to draw away from other parts of the logo. The
colour however I chose to contrast the black and white in the image in order to
draw attention to the logo and interest people. Also to have an element of
excitement associated with the company name
4. These screenshots show the final aspect added to the logo and then the finished logo before
animation. I wanted to make it look as if the projector was projecting the company name, then
in the animation stage I planned to have the light and text start to project. After adding the
shape I then changed the brightness of it and added some shadow effects as the brightness
made the words less clear and took some of the retro look away from it. I wanted this logo to be
easily associated with film at a glance by using a projector as well as being well put together and
looking professional.
5. This shows the taken image of a skyline from the internet. I chose this image as it
is quite neutral in colour and doesn't grab attention so I was able to do whatever I
want to easily. It also has little affiliation with any company or place so it will
easily become a logo or me. The lack of colour and alternative nature of image
also gives the impression of an independent company.
This shows the first step in the process of making the logo. I added a grey sky
and a black background to create a bleak looking location with nothing leaping
out. I wanted to have a still logo with no animation that gave the impression of a
small company that is associated with drama and real life depictions in film as
that fitted with my genre of film.
This is the text that I created and added to my logo. I chose the name as it
sounded good and flowed easily along with fitting with the look of the logo. I
wanted to keep the logo without any colour so kept the text black. The text is
quite formal and professional to try and create a real company that would fit
with the film.
This my finished logo with all the elements coming together. Other than the
red and bright projection of the first logo they are both black and white and
have a retro feel. They look professional in the sense that there is no amusing
or jokey aspect and try to be serious looking logos.
6. Logo Animation
These are screenshots of animating my logos in final cut express and the different stages of
animation.
These two screenshots shot the animation process for this
logo. I did not animate the second logo I just kept it as a still
image. For this one however I made the projected shape and
text slowly appear as if being projected. I wanted to do this in
order to have animation and make the logo look professional. I
believe it made the trailer look more comparable to
professional texts and make the company appear more
legitimate. The first screenshot shows me adjusting the opacity
of that layer in final cut express by starting it at 0 at the
beginning of the clip then slowly adjusting it in even
increments over the time to 100. The second logo shows the
finished logo at the end of the clip along with the layer that I
adjusted. After doing some practice animation earlier I found
this easier and got used to the process. I could have animated
in other ways such as moving certain parts of the logo but I
believed that was the best way to make the logo appear well
made.
