Fast Facts in Five: The Internet of ThingsCIT Group
By 2020, it is estimated that nearly 50 billion devices will be connected to the internet transforming how we live and work. Here are five fast facts about the Internet of Things.
Over a billion and a half people signed up for Facebook. This site the most used site for people when using the Internet. People are not watching TV so much anymore - they using Facebook, Youtube and Netflix and number of popular web sites.
Some people denote their time working for others online. What drives people to write an article on Wikipedia? They don´t get paid. Companies are enlisting people to help with innovations and sites such as Galaxy Zoo ask people to help identifying images. And why do people have to film themselves singing when they cannot sing and post the video on Youtube?
In this lecture we talk about how people are using the web to interact in new ways, and doing stuff.

Foreign clients are an upscale group of buyers. During 2014/15 the average price paid by foreign clients for a house was $499,600 compared to the overall average house price of about $255,600. Although fluctuating from year to year, the average price paid by foreigners has increased.
Today’s luxury international buyers are savvier and more confident than ever. They know what they want and have the resources and capabilities to get it, allowing them to transform living spaces into ultra-comfortable, high-tech homes. Gone are the days when overwhelming amounts of square footage equate to a dream home. The affluent consumer now seeks multiple homes to fit their lifestyle needs and extra amenities, with an affinity for high-tech features.
Ratings and Reviews are here to stay. How do you leverage the power of being found online while still keeping in mind the personal relationship and experience with the consumer?

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Amy Answering Why Social Media
Social media channels are being used for one to many communications, which fails to utilize their full range of capabilities. . The adoption of social networks is reaching all age demographics as the older generation adopts social networks in order to maintain communication with their children and grandchildren. In 2009, 38% of your members actively used social networking websites for business purposes.Based on current rates of adoption nationwide, we expect this number to be significantly higher in 2011. In 2011, 60% of the US adult population will be using social networks to communicate.Consumers have always turned to their trust networks to aid their decision making process. Adoption of social networking technology has increased the size and powers of those trust networks. Search engines have now integrated social networking data into their search engines. Social search takes a person’s social graph into account to enhance the relevance of search results using this data. Google was one of the first search engines to personalizes searches by its users to include content created and/or shared by people within a user’s social circle and has now been followed by other search engines like Bing and Yahoo.Understanding this change in consumer behavior and the behavior patterns of your members is essential to improving the effectiveness of your member communications and involvement.Social search has now become a key part of the modern consumer’s life, and members, overwhelmed with too many choices, turn to their online trust networks to help them find relevant information. Google’s addition of social search results makes this more of a ‘fait accompli” than a choice on the part of the member.
