Learning About Medieval Life and Society from Chaucer s General Prologue to the Canterbury
Tales
I have been studying Geoffrey Chaucer s General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, of which I
looked specifically at six portraits, these being: the Knight, his son, a young squire, the prioress,
the wife of Bath, the Miller and the Pardoner. From these portraits I was able to observe the ways
of life and society in medieval times. I found out about social status, fashion, wealth, romantic love,
the importance of manners and the church during this era and these are just the topics I took
particular interest in; there were many other areas of medieval life and society that Chaucer s

From Chaucer s Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, the wealth of a portrait linked them to their
social status and often to the fashion of this time also; the wife of Bath is an example of this.
She was a good looking woman who had had five husbands in total, and she was very well off
due to her profession in cloth making which Chaucer explains to be the best Of clooth making
she hadde swich an haunt, She passed hem of Ypres and of Gaunt . Her social status was very
high, as she was the first woman in the church to make an offering to the parish priest, but she
used her status to her advantage, for if someone went before her she was out of alle charitee (she
would be very angry) and would not give her offering. Her high status also linked in with the
fashion of this era. She wore scarlet stockings, which is very much a status symbol because of the
colour, but also, the wife of Bath wore shoes ful moiste and newe these would have been soft
leather shoes which were very expensive. The expense gone into her clothing reflects her social
status and also her wealth very much so.
The prioress is another portrait that resembles the link between social status and fashion, bringing
wealth into the link also, due to having such a high status. The prioress is one of the group who
represented the church in the fourteenth century, which was a

Greek Influence On Italy
Italy is a nation that is present in southern Europe on the Mediterranean Sea. It is also known for
its cultural heritage and for its most famous architectural achievements. However, Italy is also
considered by many historians as one of the most sly and mysterious country in World War I. Many
would remember major powers such as Great Britain, Germany, and Russia, however, these small
countries contribute to major battles and events in history. Moreover, Italyinfamously went from
being a neutral country to being a victim of war. Likewise, Italy has been in the same situation as
Belgium in which they follow a policy of neutrality but in the end are influenced by other countries
to join the war. Italy is considered by scholars as a key contributor... Show more content on

Whether in times of Renaissance or when the Roman Empire began to flourish, Italy had remained
loyal to their culture. The culture of italy had originated from Greece which, no one had outdone
them until the reign of the Roman Empire. The culture of Greece had such a major impact that it
can be seen centuries later. Primarily, this can be authenticated as seen in the religion aspect in
World War I. Italy s main religion is catholicism which comprised Вѕ of the population while the Вј
of the people were cast out and were forgotten. The religion of Catholicism has been present
since ancient times and is still present today. Furthermore, Italy s culture was so great and
extraordinary because their culture was very unique unlike any other nation. As a result, many
civilizations and nations had been greatly influenced almost to the point of assimilation. Such
unique aspects can be observed in their art. Artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Raphael,
and Michelangelo are one of the many influential artists in the world. Their famous paintings
such as the Mona Lisa, The Scream, Starry Night, and The Creation of Adam have been so
successful that they are the most recognizable pieces of art today. Furthermore, artists of italy
have been known to be very adroit at creating fascinating sculptures like The Statue of David and
The Madonna of Humility. However, music and drama had the same degree of influence just as
art had on its people and other nations. Music has been known to play a major role in society
since the beginning of the Middle Ages. For example, Andrea Amati who had lived from the ages
of 1500 until 1577, laid the basis of violin making. The art of drama had originated in Greece but it
was culturally diffused into the empire of Rome. It s main

The Greek And Greek Influence Of The Roman Empire
Another empire would soon take many influences from the Greeks. In Rome, an empire was
beginning to rise. Roman civilization had its roots in Hellenistic culture because they idolized them.
They borrowed and enhanced upon the Greek intellectual accomplishments. As the empire
expanded this would become increasingly important. As the Romans continued to expand their
empire and influence, they were also spreading the culture of those who influenced them the Greeks
. The Roman Empireat their peak had a vast control over much of the Mediterranean and into
Europe controlling much of Britain, Spain, France, the North African coast, much of Asia minor.

These effects reached from China, India, the Middle East, and some portions of Africa. As different
regions adopted new aspects of life, they further implement that into their culture. Then the as the
culture grows, it grows with the influences adopted form that of the Romans who borrowed it form
the Greeks. Similarly, with the Romans and Macedonians their conquest and implementation of
their culture was the main source of the spread of Hellenistic culture. However the combination of
controlling more regions and being more involved with global trade, the Romans were able to
further expand Greek influence than those before them. Soon the Roman Empire began to decline
and an even more impactful implementation of Greek culture began to arise in a region to the east.
As the Roman Empire fell and small Kingdoms began to arise throughout Europe, in a different
region of the world, an intellectual revolution began and flourished. During a period between the
eighth and ninth centuries, the Islamic world of the Middle East Experienced its Golden Age .
This was a period of advancements in the sciences, astronomy, mathematics, and medicine. The
main source contributed to these advancements is from the Greeks. However this Golden Age may
have been delayed for many years if not for a man named Mamun. Mamun was a Caliph who would

Critical Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By...
Flannery O Connor was often shocked to find how people interpreted her stories. Some readers
of A Good Man is Hard to Find believed the grandmother was evil, even a witch. Soon O Connor
set out, quite explicitly, in letters and lectures to detail the theology of the story and the
importance of the grandmother as an agent of grace. In a letter to John Hawkes, she explained
how violence and grace come together: More than in the Devil I am interested in the indication of
Grace, the moment when you know that Grace has been offered and accepted such as the moment
when the Grandmother realizes the Misfit is one of her own children. These moments are prepared
for (by me anyway) by the intensity of the evil circumstances. When O Connor... Show more

Generally O Connor chalked up all the misreadings and confusion to the spiritual shortcomings
of the modern reader: Today s audience is one in which religious feeling has become, if not
atrophied, at least vaporous and sentimental. But the discrepancies between how O Connor is
often read and how she claimed she should be read cannot simply be explained by her theology
of grace or by the lack of religious feeling among readers. Critical opinion over the years has
tended to line up behind O Connor s own explanations; however, O Connor s analysis of A Good
Man Is Hard to Find still seems baffling and occasionally a critic has questioned the theology of
the fiction. Andre Bleikasten, focusing on O Connor s novels, claimed that the truth of O
Connor s work is the truth of her art, not that of her church. Her fiction does refer to an implicit
theology, but if we rely, as we should, on its testimony rather than on the author s comments, we
shall have to admit that the Catholic orthodoxy of her work is at least debatable And Frederick
Asals recalls D. H. Lawrence s advice that a reader should trust the tale and not the teller. Of A
Good Man Is Hard to Find, Asals claims: BLOCK QUOTE One can easily pass over her [O Connor

The Rebellion Of Mother, By Mary Wilkins Freeman Essay
The Power of a Woman The Revolt of Mother, by Mary Wilkins Freeman, originally published in
Harper s Bazaar in 1890 (Gale 1997) it gives readers a view into the life of a woman who is
struggling with how to be correct and proper yet, remain true to herself. While some may see
Sarah s actions as signs of weakness they are actually showing her strength. She is a womanwho, in
spite of the restrictions placed on her because of her gender shows the power of a woman by,
knowing when to pick her battles, showing love for her familyby serving them, and following her
heart to make the hard decisions regardless of the opposition. The opening scene has Sarah Penn
picks her battles in a conversation with her husband. A glimpse is given of Adoniram, the
husband s feelings about the conversation he knows is coming. It must have been a familiar
battle between them; he is unwilling to discuss, and she is unwilling to leave until she gets
answers. She exudes a quiet strength, as she stands waiting, her physical characteristics are
described But her eyes, fixed upon the old man, looked as if the meekness had been the result of
her own will, never the will of another. (Freeman 145). She is a woman who understands the rules
of society regarding her gender and she knows when and where to pick her battles. Later in the
story, Sarah again shows strength in knowing when to pick her battles with her husband. She
speaks up when she must and stays silent when she recognizes the

Satan in Paradise Lost
Seeing Satan in a different light in Paradise Lost Satan is a character that has been ridiculed and
teased in our modern world because of his symbolization of evil, combined with the underlying
hypothesis that good will always triumph over evil ultimately questioning and mocking his
presence. In Paradise Lost John Miltonfrays from the typical view of Satan as the devil on your
shoulder by having the readers absorbed in the idea that they actually feel sympathetic towards this
evil creature. Within lines 605 645 in Book 1 Milton humanizes Satan on a level that the readers
can relate, which aids to their view of sympathy towards him. These lines establish a struggle within

Here the reader sees Satan describing how God doesn t have to do anything, he accomplished
something once and is now valued while Satan has to constantly try and justify himself. God is
held up by old repute , that he will sit on his thrown and won t be touched because he is God and
there is no hope for Satan to overcome this reputation. When Satan goes on to tell the reader that
God just being God tempted our attempt, and wrought our fall (1.642) he is providing the image
of going into battle. Ultimately it wasn t his fault he had to perform such a task but it was God s
old repute that made him go forth with the battle. That maybe then Satan would get his own solid
image instead of being compared to various towers [without the implication of there always being
a taller one]. It is through these humanizing images presented that the reader is able to feel
sympathy towards someone who is said to be feared due to his excess evil. By looking at Satan
through different eyes it is although he becomes somewhat relatable to humans and suggests that he
is misunderstood. That possibly there is more to the story between the separation of Heaven and
Hell that the readers do not

Analysis Of Vipassana Meditation ( Vm )
a.Background i. Specifics 1. Theory
Vipassana meditation (VM) aims to create psychological distance between the self and emotions to
allow emotional regulation and reduce negative results. Meditation combines three interacting
practices of intention, attention, and attitude. Meditators are guided by the intention to be fully
aware of their emotional and physical states, self regulate, and liberate themselves by focusing their
attention on each moment and be aware of the contents of their consciousness with an attitude of
non judgmental compassion, acceptance, and curiosity. Cognitive reappraisal (paying attention to
thoughts) is utilized to regulate emotional states. By reappraising their relationship with their
emotions and habitual responses, practitioners can disassociate from their emotional state and
reframe thoughts, feelings, and emotions as impermanent mental occurrence.1 Another way to state
this process is that pain reduction occurs by uncoupling the physical sensation from the emotional
and cognitive experiences of pain, thus reducing the overall pain experienced.2 2. Indications for
Vipassana Meditation
VM has been utilized to modulate pain, mitigate anxiety and depression, improve cognitive
function, and produce changes in gray matter density of the brain. 3. Contraindications for
Vipassana Meditation
Meditation can be used in most treatment protocols, however there are some populations that
require caution when utilizing this therapy. Patients that

Law Enforcement And The Community
Law enforcement has a crucial role in the community which goes beyond enforcing the law in a
politically correct manner. The role of law enforcement includes preserving the peace and
generating trust within the community. Communities rely on law enforcement to protect and serve,
while in return, law enforcement relies on the community to support and cooperate. In a perfect
world, the relationship between law enforcement and the community would be mutually beneficial
and harmonious. However, it is not easy enforcing the law in today s free society. Law enforcement
officers face the best and the worst in humanity. The strained relationship between law enforcement
and the community hinders the effectiveness of policeofficers. There are several approaches to
improve the relationship between police officers and the community. Some of these approaches
include community policing, use of force, body worn cameras, and specialized training
requirements for police officers, among others.
At some point in the history of the United States, citizens had a fearful yet healthy respect for law
enforcement officers. That respect is a vital part of the responsibility that comes from living in a
free society. It is part of the social contract, to follow the laws and respect authority, which makes
us a civilized nation. Regrettably, our current society has changed and the level of respect and
appreciation for authority has diminished. Officers can be thanked for risking their lives on a

Knowing that I was going to track myself on my health habits, I felt the need to change my
habits around to make myself seem healthy , however this only lasted two days. This was a
check to reality, that my habits are only doing harm to myself and I need to change them. My
health habits prior to assessing myself were horrible. The only exercise I would do is the walk
where I parked my car to my apartment or parking lot to my classes. Not only did I not exercise, my
eating habits were horrible, and to top if off my sleeping habit was bad. I usually have a frozen
burrito or frozen waffle for breakfast with a shake and for lunch some leftovers or microwavable
food. Let s not forget my 24oz of coffee. Additionally, my lunch was accompanied by chips and

Lee Chew Life Of A Chinese Immigrant Summary
The United States has always appeared to have had an unfair white American advantage. What
instances of desire for superiority took place in America? The Slavery Era is an example of how
white people alienated the rights of African Americans and other ethnic groups including the Irish.
Americans oppressed, belittled, and alienated the rights of African Americans in many ways.
African Americans were property to white Americans in the early slavery years. African Americans
were often beaten and even murdered. Whites saw African Americans as inferior, so they treated
them as such. This is a prime example of unethical and immoral actions that white Americans took
to ensure their own power and superiority. Americans ensured their advantage in free... Show more

employment. This was their stand to the oppression that was put on the African Americans by white

example of white Americans wanting to maintain dominance and superiority in the United States.
What about other immigrants? What was their life as an immigrant like? Did they have fair
employment opportunity? Did they have equal rights? In analyzing Lee Chew s Life of a
Chinese Immigrant (1903), Lee Chew reveals some key points about Chinese prejudice against
American he states that the prejudice is unfounded and how he did not believe in the wild tales
about the Americans being wicked wizards and men of evil minds but in looking at what Chew

Impact Of Thomas Jefferson And Geroge Washington On The...
Thomas Jefferson and Geroge Washington played a large role in the stability of the government.
George Washington was well respected among the public, which is why he was elected as the first
president of America after the U.S. had officially become independent from Britain. Moreover,
Thomas Jefferson was also a well respected leader and believed in economic equality for everyone.
Overall they both helped shape America for the better in the ways they led the country throughout
their presidency.
Washington was a man of character and rarely used force to settle issues. During the Whiskey
Rebellion, which was caused by the tax placed on whiskey, George Washington personally led his
troops to go stop the rebellion. This was the first realization of the need for a stronger central
government. Although many Americans did not like the strong central government style of leading
because it reminded them of their past rulership, it was needed for America to become stable.
Washington s response to the uproar helped build relations between people and the tax collectors,
which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just after Washington was elected, he made Britain sign Jay s Treaty which led to peaceful
commerce. The treaty also forced the British out of northwestern posts. Thomas Jefferson believed
in an agricultural lifestyle because he believed there would be no room for corruption. In hopes of
not getting involved with foreign affairs, Jefferson passed the Embargo Act which banned trading
with foreign countries. Although this was disliked, it helped create America s manufacturing. This
also helped to stabilize the economy of America. Although Thomas Jefferson opposed the bank, he
opposed it because he thought it gave too much power to the national government. He also believed
that the constitution did not have the power to do this. This helped stabilize the government
because it allows states to form their own banks and charter

Most people probably think the overused theme love conquers all is the focus of the story, or
even quite possibly the common theme everything has a consequence, but that s not the case.
The theme is stated in the story word for word Love: It will kill you and save you, both. In the
story, the whole country believes that love will kill you, using common day mental illnesses
such as depression and obsessive compulsive disorder as side effects to the euphoria. However,
love being a sickness may not be true, it can become a complication many face today. People rip
each other apart over the feeling; cheating, lying, and betrayal being major issues. However, love
also makes people happy, complete, and full at the same time. It s no different in the novel; people
ran in fear of the feeling of heartbreak and sadness from love, not realizing how good it makes
people feel. The author used the theme as a bit of a warning; to always be careful, but to never
be scared. Love comes with many ups and downs, but the way you feel is timeless and
unmistakable, and just like it happened to Lena, it can change your world for better or for

Why Did The Beatles Became Popular During The 1960s
During the 1960s, if you heard the term revolutionary in the music industry, most people would
probably think that you re talking about The Beatles. They were considered revolutionary at the
time and now legendary because of how innovative and successful they were during this time. For
the Beatles, every record was a hit when it came out. An example of their success was during the
week of April 4, 1964, the Beatleswere holding the first five slots on the Billboard Singles chart.
This was a feat no other band was capable of. Just like any other band the Beatles didn t just come

Tetralogy Of Fallot Case Study
Tetralogy of Fallot
Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital heart defect. A congenital heart defect is an abnormality of
the person heart that is developed while the fetus is in utero. The abnormality does change the
normal direction of the hearts blood flow. TOF affects four different formations within the heart.
The person that is born with TOF defect has it the rest of their life, although parts of the heart
defect are repaired.
Natural history
TOF is a rare but very complex heart defect. This heart defect affects about 5 out of every 10,000
babies. TOF affects boys and girls equally. The four abnormalities include a large ventricular septal

How Is Icarus And Daedalus
Charles Darwin introduced the theory survival of the fittest to illustrate the basic fact that the
strongest lives and the weakest dies. Survival of the fittest, or rather survival of the apathetic is
most relevant in Breughel s painting Landscape of the Fall of Icarus , the poem based on the
painting that goes by the same name written by William Carlos Williams, and W.H. Auden s Musee
des Beaux Arts . These three artists paintings are all connected by one central Greek myth, Icarus
and Daedalus. The story is about a father, Daedalus, and his son, Icarus, who are both trapped in
an island with no way of escape. Daedalus, being the master craftsman that he is, constructed two

The Evolution Of Music And Its Ability
The evolution of music and its ability to have multitudinous uses is what makes the notion of music
unique when compared to anything else. Communication was one of the first uses of music.
Utilizing music as a style of communication required the creation of complex and subtle acoustic
techniques, each with the purpose of articulating a specific idea. These musical gestures developed
from manipulations of the various parameters of music. When Guido D Arezzo first improved and
reworked standard notation by adding time signatures and inventing solfege in 1000 CE, this was
the beginning of music taking on the form of art. As musical advances continued many elite
composers began to arise. Music was then employed as a form of expression, representing joy,
sorrow, and pain. Music can also paint scenes and take the listener to distant places; however, this
requires an experienced composer, who can manipulate pitch, tempo, dynamics, instrumentation,
texture, and form. If the composer can exploit these properties of sound and music to paint a vivid
world of emotions, he can paint a musical masterpiece. This use of musical gestures is prevalent
throughout Western composition, particularly in the form of program music, which is a piece of
instrumental music, usually for symphony orchestra, that seeks to re create in sound the events and
emotions portrayed in some extra musical source: a story, a play, a historical event, an encounter
with nature, or even a painting (Wright). When

anyone make fun of me? I was thinking in my head frantically. It was the end of my third grade
year and I was deciding what part of office I was going to run for. Vice President? Secretary? Or
maybe even Treasurer! I then make my speech, gather the materials for my sign/poster, practice
my speech in front of my parents until I got it down, and lastly, the most nervous part of trying to
run for office, talking to the many faces of 900 kids. During the time... Show more content on

I could hear the murmurs throughout the halls of the schools. Oh Alex s looks Good! Debra s is
not making me convinced! Reece s is sort of plain, but it gets the job done. One hard part about
running for vice president is that there were so many other people also running for the same
spot. One in particular was my best friend Alyson Jones. She and I have been friends since the
first month of school in first grade! When I skipped a grade she was my first friend that I made,
and we intend to keep our friendship long lasting and keep in touch, up to today. It was the day. I
was extremely nervous about talking to the 900 people at my school. What I did to prepare for
the speech was practice it when I was at snack, pretend to go to the bathroom during class and
practice it there, or do it in front of my friends or teachers. The lunch that day was the quickest
lunch I had ever had. It felt like it was 10 minutes. Then the most exciting but dreaded part of the
day came, the moment I had been waiting for. All of the students who were running for any
office, would go through the back door on to the stage, as we all saw the kids flooding in through
the doors. My stomach felt as if butterflies keep becoming butterflies as the seats filled up until the
last one was filled. To start off the candidates for Treasurer and Secretary made their speeches
quickly because there very little people running for those

Macbeth and Hamlet Tragedies Essay
At a time for war, Both Hamlet and Macbeth are considered tragedies and both main characters are
considered tragic heroes. There are many differences and similarities. For one, both have somewhat
of a psychotic, mental breakdown at some point of the story. Hamlet is just acting crazy to deceive
Claudius, while Macbethhas truly gone mad in his lust for power and selfish motives. Both are to
become Royalty, with the only exception that Hamlet does it through dishonorable means. For in
my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires. The eye wink at
the hand, yet let that be Which the eye fears, when it is done, to see Macbeth (1.4 57 60). Hamlet

As Horatio puts it, Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, And flights of angels
sing thee to thy rest. Hamlet (5.2 97 98). On the other hand, even though he dies in battle on the
battle field, Macbeth isn t able to die honorably, because of all the lives he has taken, purely for
his own potential need. So says Macduff as he enters with Macbeth s head. Hail, King! for so
thou art. Behold where stands Th usurper s cursГЁd head. The time is free. I see thee compassed
with thy kingdom s pearl, Macbeth (5.8 65 67)
When it comes to decision making, Hamlet takes a long time to finally decide to seek the
revenge he promised his deceased fathers ghost. He tends to over think matters and oftentimes
complicate them more than necessary. Of thinking too precisely on th event (A thought which,
quartered, hath but one part wisdom And ever three parts coward), I do not know Why yet I live

43 49) In contrast, Macbeth acts very quickly and rashly. He doesn t think about what he does,
before he does it, and is manipulated easily. Finally, when it came down to killing someone, in both
of the plays, there were moral dilemmas preventing both of the killers from performing the evil task
they so closely guarded. During Hamlets time period, revenge was condemned amongst society;

Anne Hutchingson and Freeborn Garrettson
In 1637, Anne Hutchinson stood trial before the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay
Colony. During her examination, she confessed that she had experienced an immediate
revelation from God. She described hearing the voice of his own spirit to my soul. After
discussion with authorities, John Winthrop concluded that ...this is the thing that hath been the
root of all the mischief. She was found guilty and banished from the colony. In 1775, Freeborn
Garrettson had a similar mystical experience. In the night I went to bed as usual, and slept till day
break: just as I awoke, I was alarmed by an awful voice, Awake, sinner, for you are not prepared to
die. This was strongly impressed on my mind, as if it had been a human voice... Show more content

When Garrettson had supernatural experiences like this, they served not only as significant
moments for him, but also part of the material that he recorded for the good of others. This new
emphasis is connected to the shift in authority. People were no longer concerned solely with the
opinions of the learned, and as such were free to value their own religious experiences as they saw
fit. In such settings, people naturally turned away from common external influences, particularly in
worship. The result was a renewed emphasis on individual experiences, such as those reported by
Garrettson. Anne Hutchinson s experience was scrutinized as part of her trial. Garrettson s was
accepted as a legitimate spiritual event. This contrast displays the influence of democracy through
the increased acceptance of individual religious experiences. The third impact of democracy on
American religion is a sense of grand ambition. The hope and optimism that were so central to
democracy often resulted in dreams and aspirations of significant social change and progress.
Methodists like Garrettson were particularly noteworthy in their ambition. Though the Methodist
system used a hierarchical system of governance, that system was intended to be a force for
liberation. We see this grand ambition of liberation clearly in the life of Garrettson. Shortly

Cuneiform Vs Hieroglyphics
Cuneiform and hieroglyphics were both writing systems that emerged at the dawn of humanity, but
their legacy and impact were vastly different. The two systems not only demonstrate the early
concept of writing but show contrasting elements of civilization in globalism vs nationalism,
internal vs external, connection vs isolation. The two systems certainly diverged from one another,
but to understand this, the origins of the two writingsystems must be examined. Around the dawn of
civilization, in the last half of the third millennium, abstract symbols (meaning letters, numbers, and
other things that represent abstract thought) started to form from proto writing that had been
present for millennia in the Nile valley before the first abstract... Show more content on

But it is undeniable that hieroglyphics had more influence on history than cuneiform did, in spite of
the fact that cuneiform was more advanced for its time. This is the first way that these systems
contrast; sophistication. Cuneiform was a more advanced system than hieroglyphics simply
because cuneiform was more abstract and it was far quicker to write Sumerian with it.
Hieroglyphics was, for much of its existence, a logographic system, making it in some ways closer
to drawing than to abstract writing such as cuneiform. However, in the Neolithic times,
sophistication had an inverse relationship with influence, that is to say, that less advanced writing
systems had more influence and clout with other cultures. This may have been because it is hard to
teach an illiterate culture who may adopt a writing system, a complex, writing scheme, or a system
that doesn t work in their language. Or, it may because the more advanced a writing system is, the
fewer people in your culture understand how to use it. This can be seen with cuneiform and
hieroglyphics in a very stark way. Not many cultures used cuneiform, and when they did it worked
poorly with the language it was being used in, while hieroglyphs informed many other writing
systems, such as Hebrew, Greek, and Phoenician; it cannot be understated the

Compare And Contrast Bartleby And Frankenstein
Naturalism, a literary movement from the 1880s to 1930s, uses detailed realism to highlight the
effect of social conditions on human character. Elements of this genre of literature accentuate the
work of famous writers: such as Herman Melville and Stephen Crane. The authors literary works
highlight the lack of humancompassion by exposing their protagonists to social dilemmas. In
Herman Melvilles story, Bartleby , the author encapsulates the realities that underlie human
responsibility to help others in need. On the other hand, Stephen Cranes novel, The Monster,
emphasizes the struggle of a man rejected from society despite his kind actions. Moreover, the
rhetorical similarities that capture the essence of naturalism in both texts include... Show more

To begin with, Bartleby is the protagonist of Melville s story and he was a scrivener, the strangest
[one] ever saw (3). He looks like a cadaverously gentleman (16), yet he wasn t ordinarily humane
(10). His physical appearance symbolizes the image of someone who exhibits emotional coldness
and inhuman remoteness. In other words, he is alive but dead on the inside. Furthermore, another
central symbol of the novel is the office. In this environment, restricted relationships among
employees are evident. Hence, Bartleby appears as a prisoner of his own thoughts. He chose to
isolate himself, despite having people around him. This demonstrates the lack of personal
interactions in his work environment. The narrator, the employer of Bartleby, cares about the
protagonist because he doesn t want to feel guilty. He mentions that befriend[ing] Bartleby will

egoism. The narrator acts kindly towards Bartleby to soothe his conscience, not because a human
being was mentally and physically in pain. Bartleby, judged on his corpse like appearance and
robotic actions, experienced apathetic responses that demonstrate how those around him never
attempted to genuinely help him. Consequently, the lack of human compassion to help others

during the late 1800 s. Isaac and his Wife Cora May, as well as their four kids, lived in their

Replacing PE With Study Hall
I strongly disagree with replacing PE with study hall. It supports a lot of kids to have, through the
day. Study hall time will not help the students get through the day. Physical education is needed in
the students daily routine.
I think that the kids need to learn how to stay fit. The kids get shortage of exercise during their
school day. Therefor the students need to get physical movement during their day. Physical
education provides the students with varieties of workouts for the kids. The students love to go to

Euripides Manipulation Of The Myth
The most memorable writers are often those who diverge from the status quo, bending the lines just
enough so that the curve of disbelief still faintly hits the border of reality. Although not the prime
example, Athenian playwright Euripides deviated tremendously from the typical standards of
Greek tragedies in his famous work Medea. Albeit the characterization was majorly based off of an
existing Greek myth, Euripidess manipulation of the protagonist and storyline created a drama
encompassed by aberration and eccentricity far more peculiar than that of the established legend.
However, Euripides used his audience s developed knowledge of Greek mythologyto his advantage
and was still able to convey a believable story to the citizens of ancient Greece, earning him the
third place prize at the Dionysian Festival that year. The protagonist of the Greek drama is
Medea a barbarian princess, a powerful witch, and a foreigner in her husband s hometown of
Corinth. A female lead in a drama written during a misogynist era should be the first indication
that Medea is not an orthodox piece. Medea s high and noble birth almost becomes irrelevant as
the setting of the drama turns her royal status into that of an outsider. When her Medea s husband,
Jason, betrays her for the princess of Corinth in order to obtain a higher status, it becomes obvious
that Medea s birthright had diminished. The exposition of the play reveals Medea s egocentric
nature as she lies, fasting, surrendering her

our preliminary network within. The main goal of the lab was to familiarize oneself with the
Remote Laboratory Emulation System (RLES) and create a basic network utilizing the system.
The basic network we created with RLES had 4 requirements: a pfSense router, a Red Hat
Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 server, a monitoring solution, and a wiki. By installing and
configuring these operating systems / services, I was able to better familiarize myself with both
RLES and the services themselves. An important part of creating and administering a network is
the selection of what services and operating systems to use. Some choices were specified in the
lab instructions, such as the requirement to use RHEL 7, while others were left for me to decide
as the System Administrator. For the router, I went with the suggested option of pfSense, and
learned both how to install and configure the OS. My next action was to install and configure a
Wiki so I could document all following installs. I chose to create a separate VM for the wiki
running Ubuntu 14.04 as I am most familiar with this OS. The wiki solution itself I chose to
install was MediaWiki, thus I learned how to install and configure said service. The final server I
configured was a RHEL 7 machine, as specified in the lab. I chose Nagios 4 as my monitoring
solution, and the learning curve was quite steep, but achievable. Besides learning

Ethics And The New Genetics

Long Paper #1: Response Paper
Dear Mr. Dalai Lama,
In your excerpt, Ethics and the New Genetics, you presented the discovery of the advancement in
genetic technology. You mentioned how scientist are able to change the genetic makeup of living
things. Another key point presented in your article is the idea of cloning, where one is therapeutic
while the other is reproductive. The article discussed that the advancement in technology and
genetics should only be used to benefit people. However, you believed that using these
advancements in the wrong way can leave a long term consequence to the present and future of the
human society. (The Dalai Lama).
I agree with your opinion in how genetic technology could leave a negative impact to our society. I
believe the idea of genetic engineering is not natural. We have no idea of the harm that could result
from this technology. Genetic engineering is another step in giving humans their desires. I believe
that altering the DNA of any life form is not just. Genetically manipulating a life form could put an
imbalance in nature and society. No one should have the right to manipulate the genetics of other
life forms. The idea of genetic engineering is be consider unethical because it is enforcing animal
cruelty. Furthermore, I am appalled that some parent choose their child s appearance, rather than go
through the natural process, to prevent bullying and discrimination.

My Favorite Family Traditions
Nia Lwanga
Describe one of your favorite family traditions and why it is meaningful to you. 500 words.
My favorite holiday traditions and querencias are Christmas cookie making and Thanksgiving
Black Friday shopping are my. The word querencia has the root of the word querer which is a
spanish verb that means to desire and to want. A querencia is something one desires or something
that makes on feel safe, comforted and free. The first tradition that comes to mind is Christmas
cookie making. Around December 1st, the Christmas spirit begins to spread my around house.
Christmas songs slowly become more ubiquitous in our family playlists. Soon, every family
member becomes a sycophant and complements one another to ensure they receive the gift he or
she wants. On Fridays when I don t have much homework after dance, my family crowds around
in the family room to watch 25 Days Before Christmas . As the cold white snow falls across the
town and we would all watch, warm and excited. My favorite part of Christmas is baking the
cookies for Santa . My aunt, mom, grandma and I bake cookies for the entire family and two
special ones for Santa. At this time we chat about gifts and shopping and share jokes. I loves this
tradition because I love cooking and most of all I love being with my aunt, mom and grandma
all at once. I always feel compelled to take two spoons and scoop out extra batter for myself while
no one is looking. I cherish these family traditions because it is a time where my

formerly Van Diemen s land, is recognised for its isolation, scenery and inhabitants. Drawing largely
upon the main complications occurring later within the years of British colonisation. Reynold
records the moderate change of the British settlement being assigned and acknowledged as a prison
society for convicts. He believes that it was through the actions of Governor George Arthur, that the
colony received its evil status. The number of native people decreased from thousands to hundreds.

His book The Fatal Shore illustrates how the native people were devalued, degraded and
ultimately murdered. It states that they were shot like kangaroos and poisoned like dogs (p.127).
This suggests that the British used many strategies in order to destroy the population and the
colonial government itself was not even willing to pay respect to the Tasmanians. The native
population was small, estimated between five thousand people, so contact became unavoidable.
Reynold reveals that the escalation of the war was promoted by a strategy used by Arthur as he
introduced a document called the proclamation. The proclamation intended to remind the native
people that the British law was equal. Unfortunately this increased the number of brutal realities in
the bush. Reynold points out that Arthur had no choice but to oppose force by force (p.135) and
declare war. The military undertook an operation known as the Black Line , driving the native
people into the two peninsulas in the far southeast. Arthur emphasised that the Black Line would
support the native people and his objective was not to kill them. Reynold notes that there was no
easy answer, and the black line failed to capture the native people apart from an old man and boy

Marxist Reading Of A Doll s House
Since the love of money appears to be a strong characteristic in Nora, usually the decisions that
she takes are on the base of the influence of getting economic benefits. Nora borrows money
secretly and with forgery (by any mean) from someone in order to afford a trip to Italy to help
Helmer when he was sick; she works hard to pay for the loan. Here, an evidence of a Marxist
characteristic appears. While talking with Kristine about the consequences of the allowance she
has and the trip, Nora says, How lovely to think of that, Kristine! Carefree! To know that you are
carefree, utterly carefree (. . .) it is so marvelous to live and be happy! (Ibsen 1718). It is evident
that Nora associates the acquisition of wealth with freedom and the only way to be happy. In
addition, it gives the Helmers another status within the social order since they did not have enough
money at the beginning. At this point of the play, she thinks that money can make her happy, but at

something of beauty, too from a home that s founded on borrowing and debt (Ibsen 1711). He
evidently thinks that the independence of someone has its base in the economic solvency. The
second element is the steadiness that riches cause in their daily life. The attitude in which Helmer
talks about his new job is interesting, he says to Nora, It s so gratifying to know that one s gotten a
safe, secure job, and with a comfortable salary (Ibsen 1712), Helmer words reflect that his happiness
relays on the assurance of material things. Therefore, both elements reflect again the Marxist tenet

of the parent and/or child. Fathers have known to show less sensitivity than mothers. Fathers also
tend to be viewed as the breadwinners in the family, which may be a changing process. A
longitudinal study was done by Hallers Haalboom to look at the parenting of mothers and fathers
toward their sons and daughters of households with two children. Fathers show more differential
treatment towards their children than mothers do. Birth order can be affected by age, and gender
specifics as well. When parenting is taken into account, there could be various of changes from a
firstborn male to the last born female who happens to be five years younger than her brother. The
idea that men have to hold a more masculine stamina shows through with parental treatment
towards their children. Parents have a higher outcome of treating a daughter with more sensitivity
than towards their sons (Hallers Haalboom, 2014). The study found that mothers were indeed more
sensitive and nonintrusive with their children than fathers were, which flows with how society also
looks at parental roles and personalities among mothers and fathers. This study also shows that there
is differential treatment among birth order with parenting styles and

Essay on Alice Walker s Everyday Use
Alice Walker s Everyday Use
In the short story Everyday Use by Alice Walker, the author portrays opposing ideas about one s
heritage. Through the eyes of two daughters, Dee and Maggie, who have chosen to live their
lives in very different manners, the reader can choose which character to identify most with by
judging what is really important in one s life. In Dee s case, she goes out to make all that can of
herself while leaving her past behind, in comparison to Maggie, who stays back with her roots and
makes the most out of the surroundings that she has been placed in. Through the use of symbolism,
the tangible object of a family heirloom quilt brings out these issues relating to heritage to Mama,
and she is able to reasonably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously, Dee s family is not who is actually oppressing her. Dee oppresses herself in many
ways by the limitations that she puts on herself with her family and new lifestyle. All of the
choices she decides, to make herself a more well rounded person, to better fit into society, end up
making her a deplorable person because of the harm that it has on her family. Literary critic
Mary Helen Washington believes Dee is an example of a stereotypical assimilated women who
alienates them self from their roots, and cuts them self off from real contact with their own people
and their inner self (22). This concept explains why Dee rarely makes trips home, and shows that
she is really disowning a part of herself by not accepting her family and past.
On the other hand, the younger of the daughters, Maggie, is portrayed as a more homely and
loyal daughter who is deeply in touch with her heritage. On a personal level, Maggie does not
contain the strong willed personality of her sister, but is very content with her family s past, and
the direction that her life is taking. Maggie is so accustomed to her strong family ties and the
family history that surrounds her everyday in the house, that it is not a priority to have the quilts
passed along to her. She does not need a tangible object to hold on to as her past. Mama knew that
it was Grandma Dee and Big Dee who taught her how to quilt herself ,

The Importance Of Women s Army Corps During WWII
After the posters and women taking over jobs that helped the war such as WAC
(Women s Army Corps). The Women s Army Corps did not pass into law for a year after it was
introduced and it became into law because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The women gained
their official status and salary but they still were treated unfairly because they did not get equal
pay or benefits like the men did. Women Corps performed variety of jobs such as, clerk, radio
operator, electricians and aircraft controller. The women later on got veteran benefits and were a
total of 16,000 women army corps. While the war was going on and after couple months since
Pearl Harbor, the United States President Franklin Roosevelt signed a law executive order 9066
which resulted in the removal of Japanese American from their communities. The executive order
9066 came from the panic of the war and they could not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were only sounds of bombs and bullets that morning; they destroyed eighteen American
ships and three hundred airplanes, and they killed about 3,000 American men and 1,000
wounded. President Roosevelt said, No matter how long it may take us to overcome this
premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to
absolute victory. I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert
that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form
of treachery shall never endanger us again. Next day congress had approved the declaration of
war. Towards the end of world war two, United States looked to a new weapon known as the b 29
bomb that was dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing thousands of Japanese immediately.
Many died of the deadliest radiation, and later the emperor of Japan Hirohito said that they would

Marius s Loyalty To Power
Besides gaining an army, Marius gained something else: the extreme personal loyalty of the same
landless masses which he recruited into his army. The recruiting of the masses would change the
entire relationship between citizens, generals, the Senate and Roman institutional ideology. Prior
to Marius, the armies may have been loyal to a particular commander or general, but still fought
first and foremost for the Senate and People of Rome, as well as the preservation and expansion
of their own estates. After Marius, they fought for their Legate, that is their legally appointed
commander, and for the plunder and glory he could provide. These troops had no life outside the
army, and served for very long periods, serving terms from 20 to 25 years.... Show more content on

Further, the extreme loyalty to generals leading the army rather than state would lead to open
rebellion, civil war, the combination military political power and eventually the crowning of
emperors. Marius himself used his position as a general to help himself gain votes when he ran
for Consul in 107 BC. Sallust writes of one of Marius speeches delivered during his campaign,
Compare now, my fellow citizens, me, who am a new man, with those haughty nobles. What they
have but heard or read, I have witnessed or performed. What they have learned from books, I
have acquired in the field; and whether deeds or words are of greater estimation, it is for you to
consider. Marius clearly understood that the military and its functions were not in a vacuum in
relation to politics and moved to capitalize on this realization. His movement through politics would
foreshadow those of his nephew Gaius Julius Caesar, 50 years

  • 2. Learning About Medieval Life and Society from Chaucer s... Learning About Medieval Life and Society from Chaucer s General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales I have been studying Geoffrey Chaucer s General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, of which I looked specifically at six portraits, these being: the Knight, his son, a young squire, the prioress, the wife of Bath, the Miller and the Pardoner. From these portraits I was able to observe the ways of life and society in medieval times. I found out about social status, fashion, wealth, romantic love, the importance of manners and the church during this era and these are just the topics I took particular interest in; there were many other areas of medieval life and society that Chaucer s General Prologue to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From Chaucer s Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, the wealth of a portrait linked them to their social status and often to the fashion of this time also; the wife of Bath is an example of this. She was a good looking woman who had had five husbands in total, and she was very well off due to her profession in cloth making which Chaucer explains to be the best Of clooth making she hadde swich an haunt, She passed hem of Ypres and of Gaunt . Her social status was very high, as she was the first woman in the church to make an offering to the parish priest, but she used her status to her advantage, for if someone went before her she was out of alle charitee (she would be very angry) and would not give her offering. Her high status also linked in with the fashion of this era. She wore scarlet stockings, which is very much a status symbol because of the colour, but also, the wife of Bath wore shoes ful moiste and newe these would have been soft leather shoes which were very expensive. The expense gone into her clothing reflects her social status and also her wealth very much so. The prioress is another portrait that resembles the link between social status and fashion, bringing wealth into the link also, due to having such a high status. The prioress is one of the group who represented the church in the fourteenth century, which was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Greek Influence On Italy Italy is a nation that is present in southern Europe on the Mediterranean Sea. It is also known for its cultural heritage and for its most famous architectural achievements. However, Italy is also considered by many historians as one of the most sly and mysterious country in World War I. Many would remember major powers such as Great Britain, Germany, and Russia, however, these small countries contribute to major battles and events in history. Moreover, Italyinfamously went from being a neutral country to being a victim of war. Likewise, Italy has been in the same situation as Belgium in which they follow a policy of neutrality but in the end are influenced by other countries to join the war. Whether in times of Renaissance or when the Roman Empire began to flourish, Italy had remained loyal to their culture. The culture of italy had originated from Greece which, no one had outdone them until the reign of the Roman Empire. The culture of Greece had such a major impact that it can be seen centuries later. Primarily, this can be authenticated as seen in the religion aspect in World War I. Italy s main religion is catholicism which comprised Вѕ of the population while the Вј of the people were cast out and were forgotten. The religion of Catholicism has been present since ancient times and is still present today. Furthermore, Italy s culture was so great and extraordinary because their culture was very unique unlike any other nation. As a result, many civilizations and nations had been greatly influenced almost to the point of assimilation. Such unique aspects can be observed in their art. Artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Raphael, and Michelangelo are one of the many influential artists in the world. Their famous paintings such as the Mona Lisa, The Scream, Starry Night, and The Creation of Adam have been so successful that they are the most recognizable pieces of art today. Furthermore, artists of italy have been known to be very adroit at creating fascinating sculptures like The Statue of David and The Madonna of Humility. However, music and drama had the same degree of influence just as art had on its people and other nations. Music has been known to play a major role in society since the beginning of the Middle Ages. For example, Andrea Amati who had lived from the ages of 1500 until 1577, laid the basis of violin making. Roman civilization had its roots in Hellenistic culture because they idolized them. They borrowed and enhanced upon the Greek intellectual accomplishments. As the empire expanded this would become increasingly important. As the Romans continued to expand their empire and influence, they were also spreading the culture of those who influenced them the Greeks . Similarly, with the Romans and Macedonians their conquest and implementation of their culture was the main source of the spread of Hellenistic culture. However the combination of controlling more regions and being more involved with global trade, the Romans were able to further expand Greek influence than those before them. Soon the Roman Empire began to decline and an even more impactful implementation of Greek culture began to arise in a region to the east. As the Roman Empire fell and small Kingdoms began to arise throughout Europe, in a different region of the world, an intellectual revolution began and flourished. During a period between the eighth and ninth centuries, the Islamic world of the Middle East Experienced its Golden Age . • 5. Critical Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By... Flannery O Connor was often shocked to find how people interpreted her stories. Some readers of A Good Man is Hard to Find believed the grandmother was evil, even a witch. Soon O Connor set out, quite explicitly, in letters and lectures to detail the theology of the story and the importance of the grandmother as an agent of grace. In a letter to John Hawkes, she explained how violence and grace come together: More than in the Devil I am interested in the indication of Grace, the moment when you know that Grace has been offered and accepted such as the moment when the Grandmother realizes the Misfit is one of her own children. These moments are prepared for (by me anyway) by the intensity of the evil circumstances. When O Connor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally O Connor chalked up all the misreadings and confusion to the spiritual shortcomings of the modern reader: Today s audience is one in which religious feeling has become, if not atrophied, at least vaporous and sentimental. But the discrepancies between how O Connor is often read and how she claimed she should be read cannot simply be explained by her theology of grace or by the lack of religious feeling among readers. Critical opinion over the years has tended to line up behind O Connor s own explanations; however, O Connor s analysis of A Good Man Is Hard to Find still seems baffling and occasionally a critic has questioned the theology of the fiction. Andre Bleikasten, focusing on O Connor s novels, claimed that the truth of O Connor s work is the truth of her art, not that of her church. Her fiction does refer to an implicit theology, but if we rely, as we should, on its testimony rather than on the author s comments, we shall have to admit that the Catholic orthodoxy of her work is at least debatable And Frederick Asals recalls D. H. Lawrence s advice that a reader should trust the tale and not the teller. • 8. Analysis Of Vipassana Meditation ( Vm ) a.Background i. Specifics 1. Theory Vipassana meditation (VM) aims to create psychological distance between the self and emotions to allow emotional regulation and reduce negative results. Meditation combines three interacting practices of intention, attention, and attitude. Meditators are guided by the intention to be fully aware of their emotional and physical states, self regulate, and liberate themselves by focusing their attention on each moment and be aware of the contents of their consciousness with an attitude of non judgmental compassion, acceptance, and curiosity. Cognitive reappraisal (paying attention to thoughts) is utilized to regulate emotional states. By reappraising their relationship with their emotions and habitual responses, practitioners can disassociate from their emotional state and reframe thoughts, feelings, and emotions as impermanent mental occurrence.1 Another way to state this process is that pain reduction occurs by uncoupling the physical sensation from the emotional and cognitive experiences of pain, thus reducing the overall pain experienced.2 2. Indications for Vipassana Meditation VM has been utilized to modulate pain, mitigate anxiety and depression, improve cognitive function, and produce changes in gray matter density of the brain. 3. There are several approaches to improve the relationship between police officers and the community. Some of these approaches include community policing, use of force, body worn cameras, and specialized training requirements for police officers, among others. At some point in the history of the United States, citizens had a fearful yet healthy respect for law enforcement officers. That respect is a vital part of the responsibility that comes from living in a free society. It is part of the social contract, to follow the laws and respect authority, which makes us a civilized nation. • 19. The Evolution Of Music And Its Ability The evolution of music and its ability to have multitudinous uses is what makes the notion of music unique when compared to anything else. Communication was one of the first uses of music. Utilizing music as a style of communication required the creation of complex and subtle acoustic techniques, each with the purpose of articulating a specific idea. These musical gestures developed from manipulations of the various parameters of music. When Guido D Arezzo first improved and reworked standard notation by adding time signatures and inventing solfege in 1000 CE, this was the beginning of music taking on the form of art. As musical advances continued many elite composers began to arise. Music was then employed as a form of expression, representing joy, sorrow, and pain. Music can also paint scenes and take the listener to distant places; however, this requires an experienced composer, who can manipulate pitch, tempo, dynamics, instrumentation, texture, and form. If the composer can exploit these properties of sound and music to paint a vivid world of emotions, he can paint a musical masterpiece. This use of musical gestures is prevalent throughout Western composition, particularly in the form of program music, which is a piece of instrumental music, usually for symphony orchestra, that seeks to re create in sound the events and emotions portrayed in some extra musical source: a story, a play, a historical event, an encounter with nature, or even a painting (Wright). When Garrettson had supernatural experiences like this, they served not only as significant moments for him, but also part of the material that he recorded for the good of others. People were no longer concerned solely with the opinions of the learned, and as such were free to value their own religious experiences as they saw fit. In such settings, people naturally turned away from common external influences, particularly in worship. The result was a renewed emphasis on individual experiences, such as those reported by Garrettson. Anne Hutchinson s experience was scrutinized as part of her trial. Garrettson s was accepted as a legitimate spiritual event. This contrast displays the influence of democracy through the increased acceptance of individual religious experiences. Hieroglyphics was, for much of its existence, a logographic system, making it in some ways closer to drawing than to abstract writing such as cuneiform. However, in the Neolithic times, sophistication had an inverse relationship with influence, that is to say, that less advanced writing systems had more influence and clout with other cultures. This may have been because it is hard to teach an illiterate culture who may adopt a writing system, a complex, writing scheme, or a system that doesn t work in their language. Or, it may because the more advanced a writing system is, the fewer people in your culture understand how to use it. This can be seen with cuneiform and hieroglyphics in a very stark way. • 33. Euripides Manipulation Of The Myth The most memorable writers are often those who diverge from the status quo, bending the lines just enough so that the curve of disbelief still faintly hits the border of reality. Although not the prime example, Athenian playwright Euripides deviated tremendously from the typical standards of Greek tragedies in his famous work Medea. Albeit the characterization was majorly based off of an existing Greek myth, Euripidess manipulation of the protagonist and storyline created a drama encompassed by aberration and eccentricity far more peculiar than that of the established legend. However, Euripides used his audience s developed knowledge of Greek mythologyto his advantage and was still able to convey a believable story to the citizens of ancient Greece, earning him the third place prize at the Dionysian Festival that year. The protagonist of the Greek drama is Medea a barbarian princess, a powerful witch, and a foreigner in her husband s hometown of Corinth. A female lead in a drama written during a misogynist era should be the first indication that Medea is not an orthodox piece. Medea s high and noble birth almost becomes irrelevant as the setting of the drama turns her royal status into that of an outsider. When her Medea s husband, Jason, betrays her for the princess of Corinth in order to obtain a higher status, it becomes obvious that Medea s birthright had diminished. The exposition of the play reveals Medea s egocentric nature as she lies, fasting, surrendering her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main goal of the lab was to familiarize oneself with the Remote Laboratory Emulation System (RLES) and create a basic network utilizing the system. The basic network we created with RLES had 4 requirements: a pfSense router, a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 server, a monitoring solution, and a wiki. By installing and configuring these operating systems / services, I was able to better familiarize myself with both RLES and the services themselves. An important part of creating and administering a network is the selection of what services and operating systems to use. Some choices were specified in the lab instructions, such as the requirement to use RHEL 7, while others were left for me to decide as the System Administrator. For the router, I went with the suggested option of pfSense, and learned both how to install and configure the OS. My next action was to install and configure a Wiki so I could document all following installs. I chose to create a separate VM for the wiki running Ubuntu 14.04 as I am most familiar with this OS. The wiki solution itself I chose to install was MediaWiki, thus I learned how to install and configure said service. The final server I configured was a RHEL 7 machine, as specified in the lab. I chose Nagios 4 as my monitoring solution, and the learning curve was quite steep, but achievable. Besides learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You mentioned how scientist are able to change the genetic makeup of living things. Another key point presented in your article is the idea of cloning, where one is therapeutic while the other is reproductive. The article discussed that the advancement in technology and genetics should only be used to benefit people. However, you believed that using these advancements in the wrong way can leave a long term consequence to the present and future of the human society. (The Dalai Lama). I agree with your opinion in how genetic technology could leave a negative impact to our society. I believe the idea of genetic engineering is not natural. We have no idea of the harm that could result from this technology. Genetic engineering is another step in giving humans their desires. I believe that altering the DNA of any life form is not just. Genetically manipulating a life form could put an imbalance in nature and society. No one should have the right to manipulate the genetics of other life forms. This suggests that the British used many strategies in order to destroy the population and the colonial government itself was not even willing to pay respect to the Tasmanians. The native population was small, estimated between five thousand people, so contact became unavoidable. Reynold reveals that the escalation of the war was promoted by a strategy used by Arthur as he introduced a document called the proclamation. The proclamation intended to remind the native people that the British law was equal. Unfortunately this increased the number of brutal realities in the bush. Reynold points out that Arthur had no choice but to oppose force by force (p.135) and declare war. The military undertook an operation known as the Black Line , driving the native people into the two peninsulas in the far southeast. Arthur emphasised that the Black Line would support the native people and his objective was not to kill them. Nora borrows money secretly and with forgery (by any mean) from someone in order to afford a trip to Italy to help Helmer when he was sick; she works hard to pay for the loan.
