Theoretical Reflection On The Gospel Of Mark
For our first theoretical reflection we were assigned to read the gospel of Mark. Taking on this
reading requires an opened mindset and concentration. Reading this passage was hard for me
because when I am in church listening to the gospel readings, I do admit to lack interest. I read
the gospel of Mark to myself first because it takes time for me to analyze and process the event that
occurs in the reading. After reading the gospelto myself I listened to the audio reading. Listening
to the audio version of the gospel helped me find a deeper meaning to the reading. This allowed
me to be part of the reading as if I am there during that time. While I was looking over the reading
there were many factors that went into understanding the reading. I reread certain parts because
I did not understand what was occurring during a certain event. If I had no knowledge of the
gospel and what was happening, then reading this would have been a lot tougher on me. Since I
somewhat know the broad stories of the gospel from growing up and attending mass on
Sundays, it help me have a background going into the reading. There are a lot of small details
about which the events occurred and how people felt back in Jesus s time. The ability for
someone to retell the story of Jesus s life is extraordinary. Following the gospel help me get a
better understanding of what went on during this time and how people have evolved throughout the
years. The story being told of Jesus s life through the Bible is

Loss Of Freedom In Margaret Garner s Beloved
Introduction
It is a proven fact that ...San Diego County itself has more [Native American] reservations than any
other county in the United States (Burelle 100). However, despite the fact that UCSD is built on
Native Kumayaad ancestral soil, the university has a dismally low enrollment rate of students of
Native American origins. The absence of Native American presence in San Diego County quickly
draws attention to the social and cultural status that Native Americans hold in the United States;
their dignity and heritage are largely forgotten and overlooked by the dominant American culture
(Burelle 100).
Although some may argue that the reservations have virtuous intentions of protecting and
preserving Native heritage, the fact that indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Margaret Garner is known to be a monstrous mother figure for attempting to and partially
succeeding in taking the life of her own children, rather then see them return to the hands of her

circumstances she fought, it becomes clear that her lack of social status and freedom contributed

Alban Berg Not a musical prodigy from birth, but a gifted child, Alban Berg was an innovative
musician bringing forth ideas that would be later seen in music after his death. Berg had
somewhat of a troubled childhood, but that did not stop him from becoming a successful musician.
He was also apart of the Second Viennese school. Alban Berg was a composer whose music broke
tradition and is remembered because of it.
Born in Vienna, Alban Berg was born into a typical middle class Viennese home. He was not an
only child and had three other siblings. During his teenage years, Berg s father passed away.
Afterwards, the family had a difficult time. Berg was not the brightest student in school. ... Show

Wozzeckв€’perhaps the most frequently performed theatrical work in the atonal idom represents
Berg s first attempt to deal within the framework of opera ( Alban Berg 1). He gained
recognition as a composer of international standing but also a degree of financial stability (Jarman
319). A well known work for the violin was the Kammerkonzert. This song demonstrates Berg s
love for intricate formal designs and his interest in using apparently abstract, mathematical
schemes as structural determinants (Jarman 319). The Lyrische Suite for the string quartet was
also one of Berg s compositions. It is the most completely documented demonstration of the
extent to which such extra musical considerations act as compositional determinants (Jarman
319). Jarman says that Kammerkonzert and the Lyrische Suite are songs that mark Berg s
gradual adoption of the 12 note sytem (319). Another famous opera work is Lulu. On one level
Lulu is a number opera consisting ... of a sequence of arias, ensembles, cavatinaas, ballades and
other forms traditionally associated with vocal music, all of them clearly identified by Berg in the
score. (Jarman 321). Violin Concerto was a work of highly personal, emotional content achieved
through the use of 12 tone and other resources symbolic as well as musical ( Alban Berg

Negative Images In Technicolor
Television has been used for decades to shape the human psyche. It has also played a major role
in the development of American lives, and at times we fail to notice. People are sheep. TV is
the shepherd. (Jess C. Scott, Literary Heroin (Gluttony): A Twilight Parody). Often times we use
television as an escape route, a tube to pull us away from the pains of our true reality, but what
are we escaping? TV is a hypnotic box of propaganda, used to program American morals and
values. Negative images in Technicolor has blurred the lines of our perceptions. TV is the piece of
technology developed to control the minds off the masses through social, economic, and political
order.
Since the inception of television, obesity rates have increased dramatically ... Show more content on

It s a world where Hollywood can make you believe anything, even that you are free. It s a world
in which the prosecutor and the judge share the same side of the bench. The most obvious reason
that our minds are being controlled on a massive scale psychologically, is because our culture has
been conditioned by the television, radios, and newspapers. We are given world reality through a
screen, some ink, or radio waves. The truth is hiding in plain sight. The indoctrination through these
mediums warns us that views other than those presented by them are unimportant and too be
condemned. This presidential administration and media monopoly have a carefully crafted
dehumanization program for anyone that dissents the official version of events. If you choose to
travel the road to the truth, then you must be prepared for the obstacles that await you. You may
be condemned or criticized by your family, your friends, your lovers, even your co workers. This is
their programming that began at birth that is doing exactly what it s supposed to do. We have to be
mentally stronger than past generations. We must realize that there is a reality that exists outside of

Invisible Workers In The Simpsons
America has had large expanses in technology: from the invention of the iPhone, which
revolutionized how the cell phone was viewed and used, to websites like eBay and Amazon that
are able to give quick easy access to whatever item that person so desires on that given day. But
when an individual is purchasing an iPhone5 or using one of these shopping websites, they rarely
think about the person who work to build those iPhones or ship out those items. These Invisible
Workers , those who work behind the scenes, rarely get the credit or the respect they deserve and
are often mistreated and abused because of it. Because of society s natural desire to consume,
businesses have the ability to treat any of their workers unfairly and allows for the... Show more

Because of the fear to unionize or the fear of fighting back at all, the continued cycle of abuse
does tend to continue due to inaction. But does this solely lie on the backs of the workers? In
the case of overseas workers, they work hours on end in horrid conditions, their children
sometimes working alongside them in order to even come close to making ends meet and it
comes short even then. Anything they do can risk their job and any tiny mistake ruining the rest of
their lives in this oppressed environment. So yes, out of fear workers do not tend to fight back but
this out of necessity to protect their families from losing what in most cases is their only source of
income. In the case of American society, the workers are hidden behind technologywhere
consumers automatically assume everything is done by computers . Though American workers
are treated better, they still have to contend with being replaced by machines and worry about
companies taking their jobs away. While it can be said that this is due to the advancement of
technology, there is no compensation whatsoever for the worker when he or she is inevitably
replaced. They are forced out, without any regard for their families or their

Eskimo Pie (Stand Alone Value)
Stand Alone Value
There are many valuation methods that could be used to evaluate this company. Finding a method
that valuates the stand alone value is difficult. The stand alone value should be dependent upon the
firm’s own assets and projected future income. We decided to evaluate this company based
upon two methods: The Discounted Cash Flow Method and the Comparable Companies Method.
Discounted Cash Flow Method takes the forecast free cash flows during forecasted horizon. Then
we estimate the cost of capital (weighted average cost of capital) and estimate continuing value
(value after forecast horizon). The future value is discounted to the present value. We than add back
cash ($13 Million) and non current assets and deduct total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Like all acquired synergies, only time after the acquisition will provide if the synergy value was
benefit to the company (Unknown, 2002).
Who will benefit
Reynolds Metals will benefit more financially by not selling to Nestle Foods. Both estimated
stand alone values are less then the purchase price, but Reynolds Metals will have to pay
significantly high capital gains by selling to Nestle. Capital gain taxes will take a large sum of the
cash.
On the other hand, Nestle will benefit from the purchase because it will get a tax break from
borrowing money to the purchase company and as mention above, buying Eskimo Pie will lower
overhead cost by eliminating Eskimo Pie management and Nestle utilizing existing facilities and
eliminating sublicensing costs creating greater cash flows.
Based on the projections, Eskimo Pie Company is expecting sales growth estimated at 15%. It is
also undervalued compared to its industry average. Doing the IPO will create higher market
value of the company and generate enough cash to finance the IPO. In addition, the IPO will
benefit senior management, employees, and the community. If Reynolds Metals is concerned
about receiving cash, they will receive upfront of 84% of $15 Million dollars of dividends and the
value of the stock would increase because it will be valued based on the market. Wheat First will

What Is An Example Of Prescriptive Regulation
A prescriptive regulation is where the regulating authority defines explicitly how a task is to be
undertaken. It informs exactly what is to be done and it needs the industries to demonstrate that
they have strictly adhered to the prescribed steps.
A goal setting regulation on the other hand keeps the end goal or objective in mind and leaves the
method used to achieve that to the industries. Here, the industries have the freedom to arrive at the
goal using any way they see fit, as long as they demonstrate that the end goal has been reached.
To clearly see the difference between these two contrasting regulations, we can look at some
examples of each
Examples of prescriptive regulation
Footings for masonry chimneys shall be constructed of concrete or solid masonry at least 12
inches (305mm) thick and shall extend at least 6 inches (152mm) beyond the face of the
foundation or support wall on all sides. Footings shall be founded on natural undisturbed earth or
engineered fill below frost depth. In areas not subject to freezing, footings shall be at least 12
inches (305mm) below finished grade 1
Thru bolts shall have a diameter of 12 . Pilot holes for thru bolts shall be 1732 to 916 in diameter.
Thru bolts require washers at the bolt head and nut. 2
Here, we can see that the regulations clearly states how the footings for chimneys should be built in
the first case and the diameter of thru bolts in the latter. Anything apart from this specification will

Peppered Moth Essay
The Peppered Moths Model in NetLogo stimulates a classic example of natural selection that
involves the changes of colors in the peppered moth population of Manchester, England during the
1800s. One important aspect of this model is the plot feature which graphs the number of light,
medium, and dark color moths, and the pollution rate over a period of time. While the monitor
widgets can also track these information at real time, the plot allows us to view past information
that were collected, not just the current data. Another interesting thing about the plot is that it
works by using several pen update commands which execute the global variables (light, medium,
dark color moths, and population) that were already created in the code section... Show more

The setup and go button would help prepare the world with the specific amount of moths, and run
the stimulation respectively. The mutation slider would control the mutation rate of the moths
changing color. A lower mutation rate establish a correlation between the color of the parent moth
and the color of the offspring, whereas a high mutation rate like 100% represent that the color of the
parent moth and the offspring do not necessary have to be related. Moreover, the selection slider
determine the survivability of the moths when it encounter the birds that feed on them. At 0
percent, the ever moth have an equal chance of being devoured, while at 100, the ability of the
moth to camouflage is very important. The pollute and clean up buttons also control the pollution
levels in the environment, much like the cycle pollution? switch, though they allow you to
manually manipulate the pollution levels of the environment in a deliberate way. The speed slider
would control the rate at which the pollution level will change, with 1 being the slowest and 100
being the fastest. Lastly, the monitors would document either the total amount of moths, the
number of moths for each three types of color, the pollution rate, or the time as shown by the
number of

How Did The Greeks Influence Mycenaean Culture

the periods of local culture that that the Mycenaean Civilization left, to the imperial power that the

Because of this, this added more complexity in the Greek life. The most important empire that has
risen around this time would be the Athenian Empire which brought more trade, colonization,
more complex economy, and most of all war. The rise between the two city states, Sparta and
Athens, was due to the development of aristocratic clans that would soon replace chiefdoms.
Around 508 to 478 BC, the history of Athens history towards an imperial empire was a
complicated process. When the intervention from Sparta occurred, it just pushed Athens more to a
democracy even further. Persia proclaimed a threat, as a result Sparta and Athens came together
but in the end Sparta s military reputation has been strengthen, while Athens lost their land and
city, but for some reason appeared stronger throughout the war. They owned the sea, and their
navy proved to be the best defense against the Persians. After that event, the balance of power
switched towards Athens rather than Sparta since representatives of Athens and other
representatives of the city states met up and created the Delian League. Sparta unfortunately did
not want any part of this, so as a result, it just showed that Athens is the new leader of this Greek
Alliance. In the beginning of this league, everything went smoothly. For example, they won a
couple fights against Persia. But since they were so powerful, this became a threat to all its allies
especially Sparta since they can be easily disposed out. This was when the league was seen as an
Athenian Empire, they looked like bullies but imperially. A couple years later, Sparta destroyed
Athens by land and sea. The most tragic event that has happened to them is that their Long Walls
were demolished by Sparta. Throughout this period, play writers, sculptors, and architects has
emerged, and are still known and studied today. People such as Sophocles, Aeschylus, and
Euripides. An

Literary Elements Used In The Curse Of The Poisoned...
Authors are often sneaky about their writing. Writers have a story to tell, but exactly how they tell
it depends upon the actual contents of the tale. If the narrative is written outright, it can be tedious
to read. Both the writer and the readers tire quickly if the story gives all of the information, and
leaves nothing to be figured out by the reader. To avoid boredom, many writers will change up the
format of the story and include multiple literary elements to make it more interesting. This applies
to Paul Haven s story, The Curseof the Poisoned Pretzel. If he had simply stated that Skidmore
had killed Manchester, then the there would be no suspense for the reader. The lack of
information makes the story far more intriguing. To accomplish his task, Haven uses common
literary elements to his benefit. Thus, in The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel by Paul Haven, the
reader believes Skidmore to be the killer of Manchester because of his characterization, the curse
of the pretzel, and the foreshadowing used in the excerpt. To begin, The author characterizes
Skidmore in such a way that the reader automatically assumes him to be guilty. Skidmore is
described to be evil. In The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel, it states, He gave everyone the creeps,
suggesting that other characters were wary of him and that Skidmore killed Manchester without it
being directly stated by the author (Haven). This makes readers suspicious, and causes them to
think that Skidmore is really

Bronislaw Malinowski s Explanation Of Myths
Myth has for a long time come into question with whether they exist or are just fairy tales. People
nowadays are just to ignorant to ask questions about things they believe in because they choose
not to accept it, did Jesus Christ really die for our sins or was it a myth, is Jesus Christ a myth,
who knows.
But there are many ways one could interpret myths, Bronislaw Malinowski, an anthropologist,
believed that myths tell people about the origins of the early world and that it gives them a reality
of how things are to repeat. Malinowski believed that myths weren t kept alive because of interest,
or because they are true tales, but because they give people are a reality of how mankind is to be
determined. Malinowski even gives us an example of a grandmother and granddaughter that realize
that although everyone still has that youth they once were, they have to come to the realization that

Eliade also believed that through myths we find out where gods come from, and where
supernatural beings come from. Eliade believed myths were true because they answer important
questions like why we die, why we suffer, etc. Out of all three theories the one I agree with the
most is Malinowski theory, because I do agree with him that it does gives us the best
understanding of how are lives are basically determined for us, the example he gave was an eye
opening moment that made me think about myths I ve heard in the past. Eliade and Malinowski
theories are almost identical until I read Eliade believed myths tell us where gods and
supernatural beings come from, I myself don t believe that because I don t think things are as
simple as he believes, who knows how things were created and whether these myths are accurate,
more importantly who knows if there really is a god am not leaving something as important as

A Brief Look at Mary Magdalene
As an influential biblical figure, Mary Magdalene has been the subject of numerous works of art.
She has been represented in a variety of tropes and styles; which were subject to the religious,
political, and social standards of the time. Giacomo Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene was painted in
the early seventeenth century in Italy, at the beginning of the Baroqueera. By contorting Magdalene
s body, bathing her in light and encompassing her in darkness, Galli was able to present the viewer
with an image representative of her divided identity.
Galli likely chose to paint the Magdalene because she was one of the most popular saints in
Baroque Italy. As Susan Haskins (author of Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor) notes, from the
thirteenth century, the penitent Magdalene became the most popular image of the saint in Italy, as
the perfect example of a reformed sinner. Magdalene s ______ demonstrated a realistic path of
personal improvement. Her reputation, at the time, revolved around her supposed past as a
prostitute. Historically, this meant that she was cured of a physical ailment and not of prostitution.
However, as it was believed that Magdalene s transformation from prostitute to apostle made her
accessible to the Catholic community, the church exemplified this notion in order to make
Magdalene a suitable role model for repentance.
Religiously charged Baroque paintings of the seventeenth century, such as Galli s Saint Mary
Magdalene, were created by two distinctly

Differences In Culture In The Philippines
The purpose of this memo is to present my research on the differences in culture in personal life
and in the office in Asia. The goal is to prepare our team so we are ready for the cultural,
communication, and business differences. I was quite impressed with the differences in cultures
and business. The weather will be hot and humid for the most part. Expect to eat a lot of rice and
fish. English is the main language in more formal settings, but the common language is Tagalog.
You may greet people with soft handshakes. You will be judged on your attire so dress
appropriately. Doing business in the Philippines is very personal. They want to have a personal
relationship with you and not the company. The place our team has been assigned is the
Philippines, which is a part of the Asian countries. Luckily, I have already had the opportunity to
visit the Philippines recently so I know some things to expect. Overall, I thought they had many
cultural, communication and business differences. First I will speak of the culture. I believe it is
important to mention a couple important events in the Philippine history. In 1521 chief Lapu Lapu
declined the invitation to the Spanish norm and Christianity from Ferdinand Magellan. The
Spanish and Filipino men then fought and Magellan was found dead. Also, in 1946 the United
States freed the Philippines from the Japanese during World War II. The weather is hot because of
how close the country is to the equator. There is a dry season

Growing Up Narrative
We hesitated, honestly, realizing the shared feelings held made us different... Yet, we still jumped.
Faye was different than others. She insisted on staying icy , with the world seen clearly and head
spins exhilarating. It seemed like a switch in personalities through milliseconds making our
photographic, flowerdness, and stormy lives more interesting than life should ve ever been.
Photography is a passion we shared closer to our hearts then our own safety. Her and I fell in love
with telling stories through the adrenaline rushes, cold cut pictures making people understand
without uttering a single word. Demanding to know what darkness held we descended into the

There was a tree on the edge of the water that had a branch just high enough to jump off of where it
s safe and still feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins. It took over 5 minutes to swim to
the other side and by then Faye had wanted something that would make her mind icy for longer than
just a couple minutes. Two girls sitting underneath a tree talking about traveling the world
together, dreaming of the perfect twin brothers to come along by the age of 25, and sharing our
feelings of difference from the world was routine. Yet, something was off... I didn t know what but
it definitely wasn t the night for after dark parties or adrenaline rushes. The third fight was our
last. The thought of her starting a fire across her skin before jumping in the ice cold lake left a
feeling I couldn t explain. Jumping from the tree into the lake helped, I knew it did, but I couldn
t let her jump tonight... She d do it alone and I d never let her spark adrenaline dangerously by
herself. Sisters fight, it s a natural instinct. Except you never leave your baby sister behind when
it s dangerous outside, no matter how mad you are. I did. Millions of cars searched the streets
and calls... so many calls, were made to find Faye. It was an immediate search after I realized the
selfishness of what I d done, leaving her there at the lake. Except, no one made it in time. The
burn marks and cuts across our skin marked our stupidity, everyone knew. There s a reason why
no one ever worried about us. We knew how to take care of ourselves and the ice we felt from
the blade or the fire or the jumping was a shock to people at first. Before they realized it was only
two stupid teenagers and stopped telling us we needed help. It was like our minds were in constant
searching for something more. Anything to make the icy feeling clear our flowered lives and

Pre 1914 Century Poetry Coursework
In this piece of coursework I will be comparing love songs from six different poems by different
authors. I will do First Love by John
Clare, How Do I Love Thee? by Elizabeth Barret Browning, A
Birthday and Remember both by Christina Rossetti, When We Two
Parted by Lord Byron and Villegiature by Edith Nesbit. All these poems that I am going to be
comparing are all written before the 20th century, in the early 1700 s and 1800 s era.
Love is a strange but a wonderful and powerful emotion. There are many different types of love,
such as the love between parent and child, close friends, and the love between husband and wife.

How Did The Spanish Treat The Native Americans
The Spanish reacted peacefully to the lifestyle of the Natives. For example, when they established
their rule in America, they did not destroy and ruin the culture and heritage of the Native
Americas. Also, intermarriages between the Spanish and the Native Americans became very
common since many Spanish conquistadors were males in their 20s. As a result of intermarriage,
a new ethnicity was formed; this ethnicity was called mestizos. Mestizos established a cultural
peace between the Spanish and the Natives. Culturally, the Spanish and the Natives lived in
tranquility. When it came to the economics, the Spanish did not respond so peacefully; they were
acted harshly. Spanish conquistadors originally established their rule in colonial America in
search of gold and silver. Throughout their rule, they have not forgotten their main goal. For
example, the Spanish deprived the Natives of their resources, and forced them into slavery. The
Native Americans were ordered to work in gold and silver mines. Another example of the Spanish
behaving brutally towards the Natives was when Cortez conquered the Aztecs. After he had
besieged their capital city, Cortez had already robbed the Aztec s resources. The Spanish did not

Death By Falling Trash Essay
Death By Falling Trash Scientists are warning people about the dangers of the space junk
orbiting around the Earth. There is so many issues with the trash is space, but no one has tried to
solve the problem. Many people believe that something needs to be done about it because it is a
huge problem. On the other hand, some people believe that it is not a big deal and people need to
stop worrying about it. Trash is clustering in space, and could potentially be dangerous to the
people on Earth. According to DOGOnews, NASAscientists estimate that there is currently over

The Relationship Between Right Wing Authoritarianism And...
Assessing the relationship between right wing authoritarianism and climate change beliefs.
As time goes by, Earth is becoming more at risk of climate change effects (Commoner, 1990, as
cited in Schultz and Stone, 1994). Nearly all scientists agree that the change is caused by the acts
of humans (Intergovernmental, 2007 as cited in Hakkinen and Akarami 2014). Though, with this
being said, it seems that people are not that worried and it is not being discussed as much as it
should be. (Maibach, Feinberg Howe 2013, as cited in Hakkinen and Akarami 2014). Within this
study I am going to be investigating the relationship between right wing authoritarianism and
climate change beliefs. In previous studies such as Peterrson et all (1993), their data showed that
with high levels of right wing authoritarianism can lead to negative social issues, but within the
study there was nothing significant when it came to climate change beliefs. Following this was an
investigation done by Shultz and Stone (1994). This study showed that there was data to suggest
that there was a negative relationship between RWA and CC beliefs. In 2014, Hakkinen and
Akrami s study also found a negative relationship between the two but also found that when shown
a news cast before answering can change a person s answers about environmental issues. After
looking over these readings, my hypothesis is that there will be a negative relationship between
right wing authoritarianism and climate change beliefs. This

Considering going to a virtual school? Well imagine this, you re sitting at your computer and you
pick up your phone and go onto Instagram. Your feed is blowing up with pictures from
homecoming game and dance, you feel left out seeing all your middle school friends having the
time of their lives while your stuck at home with your schoolwork. My point is students should not
go to virtual high schoolfor an abounding amount of reasons including lack of structure and social
opportunities.
Let me start off by saying virtual school has very minimal structure on students, they re allowed to
set their own schedules and students that have little or no motivation will procrastinate and push
their work off, resulting in lower work ethic coming from the student. With the little amount of
structure virtual schools give, parents will have to monitor their children more closely and
frequently. This is a major toll for parents with priorities or jobs that gather their time during the
day on top of all of this, the state curriculum has changed a multitude of times in the years. The
adults may not know how to help with the work since it s changed since they went to school, this
will make it a lot harder for the student not having anyone around to show them how the work

Leadership Qualities Of Fice Manager Essay
Unfortunately, at my current place of work I have experienced numerous negative leadership
traits. The owner is fantastic but the office manager he has placed in power is less than
agreeable. The office manager lacks the appropriate leadership skills because he is a very
negative individual. He consistently speaks unkindly to employees, never follows through, is
very lazy and is quite frankly unknowledgeable. He does not know how to lead people but only
how to shove them toward the ground. He lacks basic communication skills, attacks before asking
questions and never places his employees needs before his own. He does not understand the
underlying link between happiness and productivity (p. 88). Thus, most employees at my office
would speak negatively about their experience in the office. However, I also have fatal leadership
flaws. I get too emotional when frustrated. I do not express this with tears or sadden but rather a
bad attitude. It is a flaw that I am continuously working on. I unfortunately wear my emotions on
my sleeves. Thus, when I am unhappy often times everyone knows it and this is not a good thing.
Fortunately, I have exhibited good leadership before at work. I am a problem solver and an
encourager. When we facing difficulties at with a particular project and employees start to feel

The Importance Of Presidential Power In The Constitution
This presidential power is controversial because it is nowhere mentioned in the U.S. Constitution
(Rozell). The President, since the beginning, has gained powers not specifically enumerated,
increasing the power of the executive branch. Over the course of history the President has assumed
many powers unlisted in the Constitution including the line item veto, executive privilege, and
executive order which have all impacted the President s relationship with Congress.
The line item veto was used very briefly during the Clinton administration before it was later
declared unconstitutional, though it was wanted by many other administrations. The line item veto
is defined as, A special form of veto in which the chief executive has the right to prevent particular
provisions of a bill enacted by a legislative assembly from becoming law without having to kill all
the other parts of the bill at the same time (Johnson). An example of the president using the line
item veto is Bill Clinton, which vetoed part of the Balanced Budget Act which, relinquished the
Federal Government s ability to recoup nearly $2.6 billion in taxes levied against Medicaid
providers ( Clinton v. City of New York
. ). The line item veto was then declared unconstitutional
because of the President s ability to amend legislation that was already passed by both houses of
congress, and declared that the President must totally reject or accept a bill. One major challenge
towards the line item veto is that

On November 1869, Princeton and Rutgers played the first intercollegiate football game in New

American football is only popular in the United States. American Football and soccer have
differences such as the protections gears, the shape of the ball, the way they score points and

Influence of Gangs Essay

Gang Culture has increasingly become a subculture for many teenage youths. Main minority
teens, these social outcast are often have no real economic stability and no parental supervision
or guidance. As a result, teenagers often rebel and seek comfort in gangs. These gangs provide
what is lacking in their lives, a sense of belonging. Minorities are often stereotyped and criticized,
especially minorities born into poverty. They are condemned simply because they are not of the
same race or of the same class as the majority (often middle class whites). Before these minorities
can even prove themselves equal, society already pushes them towards the subculture that has risen

However, lower class gang members are not able to communicate through materialistic
possessions. With no economic power, these teenagers often turn to violence as an alternate
from of power. With all the violence out on the streets, gangbangers do not care so much about
materialist items. What is more important is survival. Middle class teenagers do not have to fear
for their lives every day. Instead they worry more about being accepted into the right crowds and
owning lots of expensive items to show off. Most people fail to realize gang members are
products of a bad environment that they are forced to live in. Immigrant families arrive with
little money and have no choice but to live in bad neighborhoods. Society sees ghettos that are
overfilled with immigrants and gangs so all low class minority teens end up being stereotyped as
being gangsters. The violence is not only on the streets but also at home. Often times, lower class
minority teens come from unstable homes. Immigrant parents no doubt already have a difficult
time trying to make it in this prejudice society. With hard time the common cycle of poverty, drug
and alcohol abuse, and sometime physical abuse arises. As a result teenager often rebel against
their parents and find solace elsewhere. Because of the lack of love and guidance from parents,

The Potential Of Persuasion By Phaedrus And Life Of...
Bui Ngo Thanh Truc (Tessa)
The Potential of Persuasion in Phaedrus and Life of Demosthenes
Persuasion is an essential skill for rhetoricians. Since all a rhetorician needs is not the truth but his
own opinion, persuasion is necessary to address the assembly. While persuasion could be used to
lead a city to making the right decisions and gaining glory, the power of persuasion could be also
abused or used by the wrong person. Demosthenes uses his rhetorical skills to push Athens away
from its course of destruction. He also advocates for policies which are beneficial to Athens.
Demades and the other orators were supportive of Athens becoming allies which was the wrong
course of action because it led to the destruction of Athens. Someone could misuse their skill of
persuasion due to lack of knowledge and morality. Good orators can also have flaws, like
Demosthenes and his susceptibility to bribery. The negative potential can be reduced if the
rhetoricians are philosophers and knowledgeable of ethics. Socrates and Phaedrus s discussion
shows how truth is relative to whoever is most persuasive. While Plutarch does not state any
solutions to reducing negative potential in rhetorical speeches, Plato s method for giving a
persuasive speech worthy of praise is by dialectic speech. Both Plato and Plutarch acknowledge the
power of rhetoric and persuasion to affect the course of events in both a positive and negative way
and recognize the problem that comes with it.

1980s in particular, which drove a lot of traffic bottlenecks in many regions, and high traffic
congestion costs in roads, railways, and seaports. At the beginning of the 1990s, the government
acknowledged the limits to fund the needed construction of infrastructure facilities and felt the need
to mobilize new sources to invest infrastructure (Kim et al., 2011).

The government modified this law again in January 2005. The revised Act established a specialized
agency ( Public Private Infrastructure Investment Management Center ) to provide technical
assistance to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and procuring authorities. Also, the MRG was
amended due to excessive demand. In October 2009, the MRG program ended, and was replaced
by the support measurement of compensation of base cost, under which the government shares
investment risks within the limit of the government s cost, if the project was conducted as a
public project. Therefore, the changes in toll road PPP projects characteristics can be divided as
shown in Table 2 (Hine Chelliah, 2009; Kim et al., 2011).
Current Status of PPP highways
The first PPP highway is the Incheon International Airport Expressway completed in November
2000. As of 2015, there are 24 PPP highways in Korea, and 10 of them are operating, 8 projects
are under construction, 3 of them are in the planning stage and the remaining 3 projects are under
discussion. The total investment cost for 24 routes is 41.2 trillion won. The ratio of PPP
highways continuously increased after 2000, and the PPP highways account for 11% (460km) of
the total Korean national highways (4,139km) as of 2015. On the other hand, the PPP projects
were developed as solicited PPP projects, but since 2005, projects were in progress by unsolicited
projects.

Cross Functional Alignment in Supply Chain Planning: A Case Study of Sales and Operations
Planning Abstract
In most organizations, supply chain planning is a cross functional effort. Functional areas such as
sales, marketing, finance, and operations traditionally specialize in ... Show more content on

We expect this type of integration in supply chain planning in a highly differentiated organization to
require quite a broad and explicit cross functional reach. Although particular cross functional
interfaces have been developed e.g., marketing and logistics (Ellinger, 2000; Stank, Daugherty, and
Ellinger, 1999), and purchasing and manufacturing (Fawcett and Magnan, 2002) very few
organizations have achieved the

broader reaching integration that consistently develops multi functional plans that are executed in a
coordinated fashion (Barratt, 2004; Fawcett and Magnan, 2002). While researchers have partially
addressed the roles and infrastructure required for integration, most of their proposals result from
attempts to address coordination (e.g., Celikbas, Shanthikumar, and Swaminathan, 1999; Chen,
2005; Porteus and Whang, 1991) or from organizational level analysis across firms (e.g., Lawrence
and Lorsch, 1986; O Leary Kelly and Flores, 2002). Furthermore, very little empirical research has
been done on functioning integration approaches (Malhotra and Sharma, 2002) and a detailed
understanding of interdepartmental integration based on micro level data has yet to be established

Analysis Of Alice ; S Change In Attitude In Alice Walker s...
However, Alice begins to realize the dynamics as the story progresses and new experiences
emerge. I feel that Alice s change in attitude is Carroll s way of insinuating the ridiculousness or
hypocrisy in the adult s and society s standard way of thinking. The first scene where the reader
sees Alice take hold of her authority is when she becomes incredibly big at the White Rabbit s
House. I feel that this scene is very significant because it shows how the shift in Alice s character
is set up. In order for Alice to stand up against the Rabbit, she had to become bigger in size. I
believe that this scene is a metaphor to how Carroll viewed the ridiculousness of how most
adults viewed children, and was a way to show children reading the novel that one day they too
will grow bigger in size and have the upper hand on the older adults. This scene also shows the
fragility of the power dynamics. Carroll is insinuating that this idea that adults are more
knowledgeable or superior because they are bigger than a child is nonsenses and can easily be
altered. Once Alice realized she has the authority in herself, the entire dynamics of the story
changes. Ren even states, in spite of the awkward inconvenience, (Alice) enjoys her large body
size, for it gives her power to fight back (Ren 4). I believe that Alice begins to realize her own
power and voice and in turn she discovers strength within herself. It s through this new found power
that Alice threatens them by saying, you better not

The Importance Of Transportation Resources
The purpose of this paper is to inform incoming freshman about the resources that have been put
in place on campus at the University of Kentucky, specifically the transportation resources.
Being a freshman in college right now, I personally didn t know some of the free assets that are
available for everyone, had i known before, i would have utilized them more. UK is a very large
campus; according to usnews.com, the campus is 814 acres in total and has an undergraduate
enrollment of 22,621 students. Being this large of a campus, it is inevitable for students to have to
travel far distances to get to class or to just get where they need to go in general. This is where
transportation facilities become very important, because it may not always... Show more content on

This off campus alcohol consumption is still a concern. Traveling off campus may result in
intoxicated driving and that is the last thing that the university wants it s students to do.
In efforts to combat the problem, UK has implemented multiple forms of transportation which are
available to students to help them feel safe and make better decisions, even on the weekends. The
Wildcab, a free, late night, transportation service provided to students was specifically
implemented to function as a student uber. The Wildcab works by students requesting a ride
through the TransLoc mobile app and the driver will then pick you up at your given location. This
service only functions Thursday Saturday night from 10p.m. to 3a.m. As opposed to the Wildcab
service, that runs specifically on weekends, the Lextran and SAFECATS are other transportation
options that run specifically on the weekdays. The Lextran is a shuttle service that departs every
seven to ten minutes from 6:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. and makes multiple stops, circling around the entire
campus. SAFECATS stands for Safe And Free Escort for Campus Area Travelling Students. This is
a safety escort service that is run by the Air Force ROTC cadets, that picks students up on a golf
cart when they feel uncomfortable walking home on campus. The SAFECATS service runs Sunday
through Thursday from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30a.m. which is very convenient for late night study

Self Care In Shel Silverstein s The Giving Tree
At one point in a person s life, one usually finds a companion so strong they would do anything for
them. At least, there is a common misconception that one can give their all to somebody they care
for, simply because they care. The downside is, the relationship turns for the worse. When the giver
gives, the taker becomes greedy, and often times, the giver sticks around even when they are being
clearly exploited. Being taken advantage of and naivety come together hand in hand. Therefore, in
Shel Silversteins The Giving Tree, the Tree is naive and being taken advantage of because she puts
the Boy s happiness and well being ENTIRELY above her own, ultimately leading to her self
destruction. The Boy also habitually returns to reap the benefits of the Tree... Show more content on

The Giving Tree becomes so absorbed in her concerns for the Boy that she neglects to truly take
care of herself. While Silverstein states in the poem that the Giving Tree loved the Boy, all of
her subsequent actions benefited the Boy and harmed herself. She was only content when
caring for the Boy; she never seemed to be complete by herself. Thus, when the little Boy
wanted money, she gave her fruits to him to sell. She gifted her branches to him, so that he
could build the house he wanted. Then she gifted her trunk, so that the Boy could sail away in
his own boat. By the time the Boy had aged into seniority, he had already reduced the Tree to a
stump. In relation to self care, it s also vitally important to remove toxicity in your life. Somebody
who drains you of energy is toxic. The Boy came back time and time again to ask for more, and
then would leave her behind

What Is The Relationship Between Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men, is a world famous novel which was written by John Steinbeck back in 1937.
The novel is mainly about George and Lennie and their life. But I am not going to write about that.
I am mainly going to focus on the characters which live on the ranch in the book (Crooks, Candy,
Curley and Slim).
These are the characters which work on the ranch:
Crooks takes care of the horses on the ranch. He has quite the history with those animals, the
reason why he is called Crooks is that a horse kicked him and that left him with a crooked back.
Crooks is the only black man on the ranch, therefore he lives alone in his own place in the barn
with the animals. Candy is in a similar position to Crooks, they are both rejected by the ranch hands,

What Are The Three Categories Of Human Convictions
The three categories of human convictions can be explained rationally, scientifically, or cannot
be explained by either one of those. The categories include things that can be proved by
observation, can be proved by logical deduction, and those that cannot be proved either way. His
example for scientifically proven was that H2O is the chemical formula for water, this is
scientific because water is made of two hydrogens and one oxygen making its formula H2O. for
the logical deduction example, he used that 2+2=4 and that the whole is greater than the part. This
would fall under logic because math is a logical process that proves both examples. The third
category is something that cannot be proved by logic or science. The examples he used were

Theme Of Power In Montana 1948
Montana 1948 The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse Edmund Burke. Montana
1948, written by Larry Watson, is about the troublesome journey the Hayden family had during
the late 1940 s. The plot from the text expresses the idea of power. By comprehending the idea,
the reader was able to learn how much of an impact a powerful person can have on a powerless
person, too much power can lead to disaster to their loved ones and even to themselves and no
matter how much power a person has, someday, that person will lose the power they one once
had. In this essay the idea of power is expressed by how much of an impact a powerful person can
have on a powerless person. In Montana 1948, an argument occurred between two characters. One
was called Wesley Hayden and the other was Wesley powerful father Julian. The

In the argument between Wesley and Julian in Montana 1948, Julian shouts Bring him out here,
now, right goddamn now! and Do as I say! This shows that Julian has realized that he is losing
the power he once had in his family. Because he is losing power, he resulted in using his volume
so he could overpower Wesley and get his message across to Wesley. Moreover, this also shows
that Wesley is confident in himself when he is up against his father. He s not oppressed by his
father s influence and has attained power and respect in his family hierarchy. Watson s objective
for the reader to learn that no matter how much power a person has, someday, that person will
lose the power they one once had is that he wants to show the readers that no matter how
authoritative person may be, someone will always take over the throne. This significant in today s
world due to our world having a copious number of leaders and all these leaders know that one day

Incorporation Case Study
V. Discuss, in detail, how this entity is taxed (if at all) and what filing requirements it has with the
IRS (discuss only for the entity you have recommended).
The filing will be done with the IRS in the state which the business is formed. Articles of
Incorporation would be filed with the state, and the owners would apply for a federal ID number.
They would then file form 8832 and choose S corporation status. The company would then file as
Company X, LLC, but would file an 1120S each year, which is the corporate tax return and is
prepared for each individual shareholder and identifies the percentage of company shares owned
by the individual for the tax year. Each member would then receive a K 1 with the appropriate
percentage of income or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They will have the pass through of income, avoiding double taxation, same as if the LLC was
treated as partnership. Besides to the IRS, your business will exist separate and independent from
its owners. Therefore, the business entity can pay wages and salaries to the owners. As it is treated
as an S corporation may provide opportunities for tax planning to minimize the overall tax liability
the business and would allow the business to take certain fringe benefits, too.
Tax Laws: An LLC can elect under the check the box rules to be classified as a corporation. So it
transfers all assets and liabilities to the corporation in exchange for the corporation s stock and
then (2) distribute the stock to its owners in complete liquidation (Regs. Sec. 301.7701 3(g)(1)).
The deemed transfer to the corporation is tax free, assuming Sec. 351(a) applies and the LLC s
liabilities do not exceed the basis of its assets. The LLC can then elect S status, assuming that its
members are eligible to hold S corporation stock (Regs. Secs. 1.1361 1(c) and

The Graveyard Book, The Wolves In The Walls, And The Sandman
A picture is worth a thousand words, and each piece of artwork has its own unique story to tell. The
smallest change in style can lead to the picture setting a completely different tone, which is true
whether the painting hangs in a museum or illustrates a children s book. Illustrations in books draw
the attention of younger readers. However, illustrations are not limited to the bright and
lighthearted picture books such as the Dr. Seuss creations. Pictures in young adult novels enhance
the meaning behind words, allowing the reader to have a better understanding of the story. In the

The illustrations show these tones in each story. The Graveyard Book begins with an ominous
tone through the first image of Jack s knife, which gleams white on a completely black
background (Graveyard 2). This image is shockingly dark and ominous, setting the tone for the
chapter as the man named Jack kills Nobody Owens family. The tone for The Wolves in the
Walls is set through the position and size of the words. For example, when Lucy first describes
the noises as sneaking creeping crumpling noises, the words are getting larger to put more
emphasize on the sounds she was hearing (Wolves). The tone is also shown through the way the
that wolves are drawn with sharp black lines, making the images jarring in comparison to the
soft warm colors of Lucy and her family. The contrast of the wolves and Lucy s family show the
tension from the fear that Lucy and her family have of the wolves (Wolves). There is also contrast
of images that shift the tone in The Sandman, Dream Country, which can be seen in Calliope.
When Oneiros confronts Richard, Richard Madoc visibly cracks as the Oneiros plagues him with
ideas, marking the change in tone. This image of the panel cracking gives the reader a deeper
understanding of the tone than words

The Importance Of Arts In Education
Some schools in the United States offer a variety of arts programs, while other schools may have
mediocre to non existent arts programs. Students in their early years of schooling from elementary
to high school depending on whether he or she has an arts education can affect them in the long
run. Art programs since the 1980s have integrated into public education, however the No Child Left
Behind act has since put the arts in the decline. According to Americans, 93% of them agree the
arts are vital to providing a well rounded education for children and 86% agree that arts education
encourages and assists in the improvement of a child s attitude toward school. The National

Under the No Child Left Behind Act, passed in 2002, the federal government started assessing
school districts by their students scores on reading and mathematics tests. Due to having reading
and mathematics as the core way of assessing how much a school does and how much it receives in
federal funding, schools focus more on reading and math over anything else including art. Deep
budget cuts on the art education at the benefit of mathematics and reading has long lasting effects
on schools that do so. According to National Endowment for the Arts 2015 Annual Report, many
state and local organizations depend on federal funding to sustain accessible arts programs
throughout the country. With funding being limited, art has to be reduced as it s deemed
unimportant. Furthermore a study titled The Role of the Fine and Performing Arts in High School
Dropout Prevention, by the Center for Music Research at Florida State University, Students at risk
of not successfully completing their high school educations cite their participation in the arts as
reasons for staying in school. Factors related to the arts that positively affected the motivation

  • 2. Theoretical Reflection On The Gospel Of Mark For our first theoretical reflection we were assigned to read the gospel of Mark. Taking on this reading requires an opened mindset and concentration. Reading this passage was hard for me because when I am in church listening to the gospel readings, I do admit to lack interest. I read the gospel of Mark to myself first because it takes time for me to analyze and process the event that occurs in the reading. After reading the gospelto myself I listened to the audio reading. Listening to the audio version of the gospel helped me find a deeper meaning to the reading. This allowed me to be part of the reading as if I am there during that time. While I was looking over the reading there were many factors that went into understanding the reading. I reread certain parts because I did not understand what was occurring during a certain event. If I had no knowledge of the gospel and what was happening, then reading this would have been a lot tougher on me. Since I somewhat know the broad stories of the gospel from growing up and attending mass on Sundays, it help me have a background going into the reading. There are a lot of small details about which the events occurred and how people felt back in Jesus s time. The ability for someone to retell the story of Jesus s life is extraordinary. Following the gospel help me get a better understanding of what went on during this time and how people have evolved throughout the years. The story being told of Jesus s life through the Bible is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Loss Of Freedom In Margaret Garner s Beloved Introduction It is a proven fact that ...San Diego County itself has more [Native American] reservations than any other county in the United States (Burelle 100). However, despite the fact that UCSD is built on Native Kumayaad ancestral soil, the university has a dismally low enrollment rate of students of Native American origins. The absence of Native American presence in San Diego County quickly draws attention to the social and cultural status that Native Americans hold in the United States; their dignity and heritage are largely forgotten and overlooked by the dominant American culture (Burelle 100). Although some may argue that the reservations have virtuous intentions of protecting and preserving Native heritage, the fact that indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Isabella Berg Thesis Statement Kimberlyn Snoddy Dr. Holly Powe MUS 101 WA1 20 June 2016 Alban Berg Not a musical prodigy from birth, but a gifted child, Alban Berg was an innovative musician bringing forth ideas that would be later seen in music after his death. Berg had somewhat of a troubled childhood, but that did not stop him from becoming a successful musician. He was also apart of the Second Viennese school. Alban Berg was a composer whose music broke tradition and is remembered because of it. Born in Vienna, Alban Berg was born into a typical middle class Viennese home. He was not an only child and had three other siblings. During his teenage years, Berg s father passed away. Afterwards, the family had a difficult time. Wozzeckв€’perhaps the most frequently performed theatrical work in the atonal idom represents Berg s first attempt to deal within the framework of opera ( Alban Berg 1). He gained recognition as a composer of international standing but also a degree of financial stability (Jarman 319). A well known work for the violin was the Kammerkonzert. This song demonstrates Berg s love for intricate formal designs and his interest in using apparently abstract, mathematical schemes as structural determinants (Jarman 319). The Lyrische Suite for the string quartet was also one of Berg s compositions. It is the most completely documented demonstration of the extent to which such extra musical considerations act as compositional determinants (Jarman 319). Jarman says that Kammerkonzert and the Lyrische Suite are songs that mark Berg s gradual adoption of the 12 note sytem (319). Another famous opera work is Lulu. On one level Lulu is a number opera consisting ... of a sequence of arias, ensembles, cavatinaas, ballades and other forms traditionally associated with vocal music, all of them clearly identified by Berg in the score. (Jarman 321). Violin Concerto was a work of highly personal, emotional content achieved through the use of 12 tone and other resources symbolic as well as musical ( Alban Berg ... • 5. Negative Images In Technicolor Television has been used for decades to shape the human psyche. It has also played a major role in the development of American lives, and at times we fail to notice. People are sheep. TV is the shepherd. (Jess C. Scott, Literary Heroin (Gluttony): A Twilight Parody). Often times we use television as an escape route, a tube to pull us away from the pains of our true reality, but what are we escaping? TV is a hypnotic box of propaganda, used to program American morals and values. Negative images in Technicolor has blurred the lines of our perceptions. It s a world where Hollywood can make you believe anything, even that you are free. It s a world in which the prosecutor and the judge share the same side of the bench. The most obvious reason that our minds are being controlled on a massive scale psychologically, is because our culture has been conditioned by the television, radios, and newspapers. We are given world reality through a screen, some ink, or radio waves. The truth is hiding in plain sight. The indoctrination through these mediums warns us that views other than those presented by them are unimportant and too be condemned. This presidential administration and media monopoly have a carefully crafted dehumanization program for anyone that dissents the official version of events. If you choose to travel the road to the truth, then you must be prepared for the obstacles that await you. You may be condemned or criticized by your family, your friends, your lovers, even your co workers. This is their programming that began at birth that is doing exactly what it s supposed to do. Invisible Workers In The Simpsons America has had large expanses in technology: from the invention of the iPhone, which revolutionized how the cell phone was viewed and used, to websites like eBay and Amazon that are able to give quick easy access to whatever item that person so desires on that given day. But when an individual is purchasing an iPhone5 or using one of these shopping websites, they rarely think about the person who work to build those iPhones or ship out those items. Because of the fear to unionize or the fear of fighting back at all, the continued cycle of abuse does tend to continue due to inaction. But does this solely lie on the backs of the workers? In the case of overseas workers, they work hours on end in horrid conditions, their children sometimes working alongside them in order to even come close to making ends meet and it comes short even then. Anything they do can risk their job and any tiny mistake ruining the rest of their lives in this oppressed environment. So yes, out of fear workers do not tend to fight back but this out of necessity to protect their families from losing what in most cases is their only source of income. In the case of American society, the workers are hidden behind technologywhere consumers automatically assume everything is done by computers . Though American workers are treated better, they still have to contend with being replaced by machines and worry about companies taking their jobs away. Finding a method that valuates the stand alone value is difficult. The stand alone value should be dependent upon the firm’s own assets and projected future income. Discounted Cash Flow Method takes the forecast free cash flows during forecasted horizon. • 8. What Is An Example Of Prescriptive Regulation A prescriptive regulation is where the regulating authority defines explicitly how a task is to be undertaken. It informs exactly what is to be done and it needs the industries to demonstrate that they have strictly adhered to the prescribed steps. A goal setting regulation on the other hand keeps the end goal or objective in mind and leaves the method used to achieve that to the industries. Here, the industries have the freedom to arrive at the goal using any way they see fit, as long as they demonstrate that the end goal has been reached. To clearly see the difference between these two contrasting regulations, we can look at some examples of each Examples of prescriptive regulation Footings for masonry chimneys shall be constructed of concrete or solid masonry at least 12 inches (305mm) thick and shall extend at least 6 inches (152mm) beyond the face of the foundation or support wall on all sides. Footings shall be founded on natural undisturbed earth or engineered fill below frost depth. In areas not subject to freezing, footings shall be at least 12 inches (305mm) below finished grade 1 Thru bolts shall have a diameter of 12 . Pilot holes for thru bolts shall be 1732 to 916 in diameter. Peppered Moth Essay The Peppered Moths Model in NetLogo stimulates a classic example of natural selection that involves the changes of colors in the peppered moth population of Manchester, England during the 1800s. One important aspect of this model is the plot feature which graphs the number of light, medium, and dark color moths, and the pollution rate over a period of time. While the monitor widgets can also track these information at real time, the plot allows us to view past information that were collected, not just the current data. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this, this added more complexity in the Greek life. The most important empire that has risen around this time would be the Athenian Empire which brought more trade, colonization, more complex economy, and most of all war. The rise between the two city states, Sparta and Athens, was due to the development of aristocratic clans that would soon replace chiefdoms. Around 508 to 478 BC, the history of Athens history towards an imperial empire was a complicated process. When the intervention from Sparta occurred, it just pushed Athens more to a democracy even further. Persia proclaimed a threat, as a result Sparta and Athens came together but in the end Sparta s military reputation has been strengthen, while Athens lost their land and city, but for some reason appeared stronger throughout the war. They owned the sea, and their navy proved to be the best defense against the Persians. After that event, the balance of power switched towards Athens rather than Sparta since representatives of Athens and other representatives of the city states met up and created the Delian League. Sparta unfortunately did not want any part of this, so as a result, it just showed that Athens is the new leader of this Greek Alliance. In the beginning of this league, everything went smoothly. For example, they won a couple fights against Persia. But since they were so powerful, this became a threat to all its allies especially Sparta since they can be easily disposed out. This was when the league was seen as an Athenian Empire, they looked like bullies but imperially. A couple years later, Sparta destroyed Athens by land and sea. The most tragic event that has happened to them is that their Long Walls were demolished by Sparta. Throughout this period, play writers, sculptors, and architects has emerged, and are still known and studied today. People such as Sophocles, Aeschylus, and Euripides. An ... • 17. Literary Elements Used In The Curse Of The Poisoned... Authors are often sneaky about their writing. Writers have a story to tell, but exactly how they tell it depends upon the actual contents of the tale. If the narrative is written outright, it can be tedious to read. Both the writer and the readers tire quickly if the story gives all of the information, and leaves nothing to be figured out by the reader. To avoid boredom, many writers will change up the format of the story and include multiple literary elements to make it more interesting. This applies to Paul Haven s story, The Curseof the Poisoned Pretzel. If he had simply stated that Skidmore had killed Manchester, then the there would be no suspense for the reader. The lack of information makes the story far more intriguing. To accomplish his task, Haven uses common literary elements to his benefit. Thus, in The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel by Paul Haven, the reader believes Skidmore to be the killer of Manchester because of his characterization, the curse of the pretzel, and the foreshadowing used in the excerpt. To begin, The author characterizes Skidmore in such a way that the reader automatically assumes him to be guilty. Skidmore is described to be evil. In The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel, it states, He gave everyone the creeps, suggesting that other characters were wary of him and that Skidmore killed Manchester without it being directly stated by the author (Haven). • 19. A Brief Look at Mary Magdalene As an influential biblical figure, Mary Magdalene has been the subject of numerous works of art. She has been represented in a variety of tropes and styles; which were subject to the religious, political, and social standards of the time. Giacomo Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene was painted in the early seventeenth century in Italy, at the beginning of the Baroqueera. By contorting Magdalene s body, bathing her in light and encompassing her in darkness, Galli was able to present the viewer with an image representative of her divided identity. Galli likely chose to paint the Magdalene because she was one of the most popular saints in Baroque Italy. As Susan Haskins (author of Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor) notes, from the thirteenth century, the penitent Magdalene became the most popular image of the saint in Italy, as the perfect example of a reformed sinner. Magdalene s ______ demonstrated a realistic path of personal improvement. Her reputation, at the time, revolved around her supposed past as a prostitute. Historically, this meant that she was cured of a physical ailment and not of prostitution. However, as it was believed that Magdalene s transformation from prostitute to apostle made her accessible to the Catholic community, the church exemplified this notion in order to make Magdalene a suitable role model for repentance. Religiously charged Baroque paintings of the seventeenth century, such as Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene, were created by two distinctly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Differences In Culture In The Philippines The purpose of this memo is to present my research on the differences in culture in personal life and in the office in Asia. The goal is to prepare our team so we are ready for the cultural, communication, and business differences. I was quite impressed with the differences in cultures and business. The weather will be hot and humid for the most part. Expect to eat a lot of rice and fish. English is the main language in more formal settings, but the common language is Tagalog. You may greet people with soft handshakes. You will be judged on your attire so dress appropriately. Doing business in the Philippines is very personal. They want to have a personal relationship with you and not the company. The place our team has been assigned is the Philippines, which is a part of the Asian countries. Luckily, I have already had the opportunity to visit the Philippines recently so I know some things to expect. Overall, I thought they had many cultural, communication and business differences. First I will speak of the culture. I believe it is important to mention a couple important events in the Philippine history. In 1521 chief Lapu Lapu declined the invitation to the Spanish norm and Christianity from Ferdinand Magellan. The Spanish and Filipino men then fought and Magellan was found dead. Also, in 1946 the United States freed the Philippines from the Japanese during World War II. The weather is hot because of how close the country is to the equator. There is a dry season ... For example, when they established their rule in America, they did not destroy and ruin the culture and heritage of the Native Americas. Also, intermarriages between the Spanish and the Native Americans became very common since many Spanish conquistadors were males in their 20s. As a result of intermarriage, a new ethnicity was formed; this ethnicity was called mestizos. Mestizos established a cultural peace between the Spanish and the Natives. Culturally, the Spanish and the Natives lived in tranquility. When it came to the economics, the Spanish did not respond so peacefully; they were acted harshly. For example, the Spanish deprived the Natives of their resources, and forced them into slavery. The Native Americans were ordered to work in gold and silver mines. As time goes by, Earth is becoming more at risk of climate change effects (Commoner, 1990, as cited in Schultz and Stone, 1994). Though, with this being said, it seems that people are not that worried and it is not being discussed as much as it should be. (Maibach, Feinberg Howe 2013, as cited in Hakkinen and Akarami 2014). Within this study I am going to be investigating the relationship between right wing authoritarianism and climate change beliefs. In previous studies such as Peterrson et all (1993), their data showed that with high levels of right wing authoritarianism can lead to negative social issues, but within the study there was nothing significant when it came to climate change beliefs. Following this was an investigation done by Shultz and Stone (1994). This study showed that there was data to suggest that there was a negative relationship between RWA and CC beliefs. In 2014, Hakkinen and Akrami s study also found a negative relationship between the two but also found that when shown a news cast before answering can change a person s answers about environmental issues. The President, since the beginning, has gained powers not specifically enumerated, increasing the power of the executive branch. The line item veto was used very briefly during the Clinton administration before it was later declared unconstitutional, though it was wanted by many other administrations. The line item veto is defined as, A special form of veto in which the chief executive has the right to prevent particular provisions of a bill enacted by a legislative assembly from becoming law without having to kill all the other parts of the bill at the same time (Johnson). An example of the president using the line item veto is Bill Clinton, which vetoed part of the Balanced Budget Act which, relinquished the Federal Government s ability to recoup nearly $2.6 billion in taxes levied against Medicaid providers ( Clinton v. • 42. The Potential Of Persuasion By Phaedrus And Life Of... Bui Ngo Thanh Truc (Tessa) The Potential of Persuasion in Phaedrus and Life of Demosthenes Persuasion is an essential skill for rhetoricians. Since all a rhetorician needs is not the truth but his own opinion, persuasion is necessary to address the assembly. While persuasion could be used to lead a city to making the right decisions and gaining glory, the power of persuasion could be also abused or used by the wrong person. Demosthenes uses his rhetorical skills to push Athens away from its course of destruction. He also advocates for policies which are beneficial to Athens. Demades and the other orators were supportive of Athens becoming allies which was the wrong course of action because it led to the destruction of Athens. Someone could misuse their skill of persuasion due to lack of knowledge and morality. Good orators can also have flaws, like Demosthenes and his susceptibility to bribery. The negative potential can be reduced if the rhetoricians are philosophers and knowledgeable of ethics. Socrates and Phaedrus s discussion shows how truth is relative to whoever is most persuasive. While Plutarch does not state any solutions to reducing negative potential in rhetorical speeches, Plato s method for giving a persuasive speech worthy of praise is by dialectic speech. Both Plato and Plutarch acknowledge the power of rhetoric and persuasion to affect the course of events in both a positive and negative way and recognize the problem that comes with it. First, persuasion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. External Factors ( Or External Environment ) Case Study External Factors (or External Environment) During the 1970s and 1980s, the Republic of Korea achieved exceptional economic development. However, the government focused on regional development rather than infrastructure development (Hine Chelliah, 2009). Therefore, the rate of infrastructure investment had been decreasing in the 1980s in particular, which drove a lot of traffic bottlenecks in many regions, and high traffic congestion costs in roads, railways, and seaports. At the beginning of the 1990s, the government acknowledged the limits to fund the needed construction of infrastructure facilities and felt the need to mobilize new sources to invest infrastructure (Kim et al., 2011). The revised Act established a specialized agency ( Public Private Infrastructure Investment Management Center ) to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and procuring authorities. Also, the MRG was amended due to excessive demand. In October 2009, the MRG program ended, and was replaced by the support measurement of compensation of base cost, under which the government shares investment risks within the limit of the government s cost, if the project was conducted as a public project. Therefore, the changes in toll road PPP projects characteristics can be divided as shown in Table 2 (Hine Chelliah, 2009; Kim et al., 2011). Current Status of PPP highways The first PPP highway is the Incheon International Airport Expressway completed in November 2000. As of 2015, there are 24 PPP highways in Korea, and 10 of them are operating, 8 projects are under construction, 3 of them are in the planning stage and the remaining 3 projects are under discussion. The total investment cost for 24 routes is 41.2 trillion won. The ratio of PPP highways continuously increased after 2000, and the PPP highways account for 11% (460km) of the total Korean national highways (4,139km) as of 2015. On the other hand, the PPP projects were developed as solicited PPP projects, but since 2005, projects were in progress by unsolicited projects. The Problem of Risk Sharing: Minimum Revenue ... We expect this type of integration in supply chain planning in a highly differentiated organization to require quite a broad and explicit cross functional reach. Although particular cross functional interfaces have been developed e.g., marketing and logistics (Ellinger, 2000; Stank, Daugherty, and Ellinger, 1999), and purchasing and manufacturing (Fawcett and Magnan, 2002) very few organizations have achieved the 1 broader reaching integration that consistently develops multi functional plans that are executed in a coordinated fashion (Barratt, 2004; Fawcett and Magnan, 2002). While researchers have partially addressed the roles and infrastructure required for integration, most of their proposals result from attempts to address coordination (e.g., Celikbas, Shanthikumar, and Swaminathan, 1999; Chen, 2005; Porteus and Whang, 1991) or from organizational level analysis across firms (e.g., Lawrence and Lorsch, 1986; O Leary Kelly and Flores, 2002). Furthermore, very little empirical research has been done on functioning integration approaches (Malhotra and Sharma, 2002) and a detailed understanding of interdepartmental integration based on micro level data has yet to be established (Griffin and Hauser, ... • 45. Analysis Of Alice ; S Change In Attitude In Alice Walker s... However, Alice begins to realize the dynamics as the story progresses and new experiences emerge. I feel that Alice s change in attitude is Carroll s way of insinuating the ridiculousness or hypocrisy in the adult s and society s standard way of thinking. The first scene where the reader sees Alice take hold of her authority is when she becomes incredibly big at the White Rabbit s House. I feel that this scene is very significant because it shows how the shift in Alice s character is set up. In order for Alice to stand up against the Rabbit, she had to become bigger in size. I believe that this scene is a metaphor to how Carroll viewed the ridiculousness of how most adults viewed children, and was a way to show children reading the novel that one day they too will grow bigger in size and have the upper hand on the older adults. This scene also shows the fragility of the power dynamics. Carroll is insinuating that this idea that adults are more knowledgeable or superior because they are bigger than a child is nonsenses and can easily be altered. Once Alice realized she has the authority in herself, the entire dynamics of the story changes. Ren even states, in spite of the awkward inconvenience, (Alice) enjoys her large body size, for it gives her power to fight back (Ren 4). I believe that Alice begins to realize her own power and voice and in turn she discovers strength within herself. It s through this new found power that Alice threatens them by saying, you better not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Wildcab, a free, late night, transportation service provided to students was specifically implemented to function as a student uber. The Wildcab works by students requesting a ride through the TransLoc mobile app and the driver will then pick you up at your given location. This service only functions Thursday Saturday night from 10p.m. to 3a.m. As opposed to the Wildcab service, that runs specifically on weekends, the Lextran and SAFECATS are other transportation options that run specifically on the weekdays. • 47. Self Care In Shel Silverstein s The Giving Tree At one point in a person s life, one usually finds a companion so strong they would do anything for them. At least, there is a common misconception that one can give their all to somebody they care for, simply because they care. The downside is, the relationship turns for the worse. When the giver gives, the taker becomes greedy, and often times, the giver sticks around even when they are being clearly exploited. Being taken advantage of and naivety come together hand in hand. Therefore, in Shel Silversteins The Giving Tree, the Tree is naive and being taken advantage of because she puts the Boy s happiness and well being ENTIRELY above her own, ultimately leading to her self destruction. She gifted her branches to him, so that he could build the house he wanted. Then she gifted her trunk, so that the Boy could sail away in his own boat. By the time the Boy had aged into seniority, he had already reduced the Tree to a stump. In relation to self care, it s also vitally important to remove toxicity in your life. These are the characters which work on the ranch: Crooks takes care of the horses on the ranch. He has quite the history with those animals, the reason why he is called Crooks is that a horse kicked him and that left him with a crooked back. The categories include things that can be proved by observation, can be proved by logical deduction, and those that cannot be proved either way. His example for scientifically proven was that H2O is the chemical formula for water, this is scientific because water is made of two hydrogens and one oxygen making its formula H2O. for the logical deduction example, he used that 2+2=4 and that the whole is greater than the part. Montana 1948, written by Larry Watson, is about the troublesome journey the Hayden family had during the late 1940 s. The plot from the text expresses the idea of power. By comprehending the idea, the reader was able to learn how much of an impact a powerful person can have on a powerless person, too much power can lead to disaster to their loved ones and even to themselves and no matter how much power a person has, someday, that person will lose the power they one once had. This image is shockingly dark and ominous, setting the tone for the chapter as the man named Jack kills Nobody Owens family. The tone for The Wolves in the Walls is set through the position and size of the words. For example, when Lucy first describes the noises as sneaking creeping crumpling noises, the words are getting larger to put more emphasize on the sounds she was hearing (Wolves). The tone is also shown through the way the that wolves are drawn with sharp black lines, making the images jarring in comparison to the soft warm colors of Lucy and her family. The contrast of the wolves and Lucy s family show the tension from the fear that Lucy and her family have of the wolves (Wolves). There is also contrast of images that shift the tone in The Sandman, Dream Country, which can be seen in Calliope.
