2. Sean Convey 7 Habits
The book that I read was The 7 habits of highly effective teens by Sean Convey, and
I can say it is one of the most powerful books that I have ever read. It gave me
another perspective on how I can pass through obstacles, build back broken
relationships, organize my life, and what are good and bad habits. Habits are a
settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up, they
are the things we do repeatedly. Some habits are good for example: Exercising and
planning ahead at other times they are bad example: Thinking negative, feeling
inferior, and blaming others. Throughout this book one word flowed through
connecting every advice, idea, and basically pieced the whole book together and the
word is paradigms (meaning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way you might see anything is your point of view or your paradigms and what
you see is what you get. At first reading that in the book I did not acknowledge
what that one sentence meant what you see is what you get until I kept reading,
what the sentence means is once you view, maybe a person or see a circumstance
happen and you start to form your own opinion and now, how you will view that
certain thing and find evidence to support it that is what you will get. Such as
people putting others down calling them dumb or they will never be smart as their
older siblings, that person will start believing this find evidence and see themselves
dumb. Messed up paradigms gives limitations you do not know how much you are
missing. In that instance what you need is a paradigm shift that you suddenly see
things in a new way. Seeing objects from another point of view can make such a
tremendous difference in our attitude toward others, but the key in doing this is
changing your views, you have to want change in order to

4. Secret Handshake Analysis
For the last century Canada has evolved into a sovereign nation, through politics,
democracy, government, peacekeeping, bilingual and multinationalism. Canada s
unique history and geography has contributed to Canada s national identity, however
many people still question, what does it means to be Canadian? Thus a national
identity crisis occurs, and although ethnicity and diversity is apart of Canadian
identity, it also challenges it by having many differences with one another. Many
believe that Canadalacks a strong national identity because it is too diverse to form a
cohesive community; a sense of connection to other people who share similar
interests, a common history, cultureand language. The past can help with this crisis
by looking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term secret handshake is a specific gesture known between two parties; this
connection is only meant to be understood by Canadians. Coupland s exhibition
investigates Canadian cultural identity by using imagery and objects that is symbolic
to Canadians.2 The souvenirs that he has of Canada in this exhibition, reminds
people about their complexity of their nation and its origins, something that is easily
forgotten because multiculturalism/ pluralism overwrites/is more important than
Canada s unique history. Apart of this exhibition is the G7 Series, which
appropriates many iconic works of The Group of Seven. Coupland chooses the
Group of Seven to feature in his works because their representation of Canadian
wilderness still shapes Canadians ideas about their homeland and about art, making
them a national symbol. In his novel, Souvenir of Canada, Coupland writes, they
brought Canada alive... The paintings of the Group of Seven are like a code... a
secret handshake among Canadians, something meaningless to audiences outside the
country. (48) His G7 series, that is shown at the MOCCA exhibition includes: Harris
Maligned Lake, Sampson Matthews Variant, 2011., Harris No.11, Green Mountain,
2011., and Thomson Campfire, 2013. The series are based on degraded digital
images of the Group of Seven most iconic works that were found on the internet.
Coupland creates a geometric language through Adobe Photoshop to reduce the
composition of these well known landscapes into polygons, determining the hues
based on his own colour sense.3 Coupland uses appropriation in a subtle way by
titling the artist, and keeping the name of the painting, however he also includes
Sampson Matthews Variant indicating an important time for Canadian art history.

been outstripped by the growth in higher education. It is generally expected that
competition for entry level white collar jobs will become much fiercer.
Unfortunately, fewer than 10 per cent of graduates in China have the skills to work
for a foreign company and there are continuing, not to say growing, shortages of both
mid level and senior level managers. In the past, many multinationals relied on
expatriate managers to oversee their China operations. The current trends show an
increased localisation of staff. Forty per cent of foreign companies have trouble
filling mid level and high level positions in China. Adding to the problem for MNCs
has been the entrance of local Chinese firms to the market, often referred to as the
``reverse brain drain . In ten years, China will need 75,000 managers with
international experience. Currently, it has only about 5,000 with such talent. The
management talent in China is mainly first generation. The challenge of attracting and
especially retaining management talent in China is rising. The average tenure of mid

6. Essay On Police Officer Shooting
As shootings involving officers and suspects continue to rise, it brings a huge
concern out there for current officers and future officers. When law enforcement
officers die in a shooting it not only affects their family but also the whole
community and state as a whole. In society today officer deaths are still very high
and it s something we may never be able to control but it is something we
definitely need to look at and try to control it. Nobody is going to want to join the
field of law enforcement if their chance of dying is at an all time high and at the
rate we are going now looking at the future is going to be scary. This all goes back
to the poor ethics of some society members and is something that needs to be looked

Katrina hit many southern cities. Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi were all hit
but the most damage occurred in New Orleans. With the city mostly under sea
level this presented much of the problem. The majority of the city was flooded.
More than $200 billion dollars in damages were estimated. The loss of life,
property, and business were devastating on New Orleans. This was the most costly
of all natural disasters in the United States of America in my lifetime. This natural
disaster disturbed the economic system of New Orleans, the labor markets around
the U.S., and the individual businesses in New Orleans. The trending effect was a
loss of 100,000 jobs in ten months and almost 2.9 billion in wages were lost (Effects
of Hurricane Katrina, 2012). The storm helped to crush New Orleans and put a
devastating effect on the economy of the U.S. Gas prices rose, product prices rose,
and the tourism rate in New Orleans went to zero. The port was unable to open, the
colleges were closed due to the devastation, and as I stated earlier tourism became
null and void. The hurricane brought social, economic, and morale parameters into
play. New Orleans lost 95,000 jobs in the first ten month after the hurricane (Effects
of Hurricane Katrina, 2012). Unemployment became a nightmare thus making living
arrangement unbearable. Government agencies were having a hard time keeping up
with unemployment thus making many residents
8. Assistive Technology In Special Education
This article focuses on the many forms of technology in relation to special education.
The article discusses the high and low forms of technology that is available for
students with special needs to help bypass or compensate for their disabilities. The
article goes on to survey the current status of assistive technologyfor the special
educationpopulation. In the end, the article uncovers that the use of assistive
technology for the special educationpopulation is promising though uncertain.
Assistive technology has proven to be beneficial for students with learning
disabilities, as it would empower them to work beyond their normal capabilities
(Lewis, 1998). An assistive technology device can be an item, software system, or
piece of equipment used to increase, improve, or maintain the functional
capabilities of a student with disabilities. It can help a person with a disability
complete tasks they need to perform on a daily basis. Assistive technology services
serve to directly assist students with disabilities in the selection or use of an
assistive technology device. For some students with disabilities, assistive
technology is important because they would not be able to benefit form their
educational program. Assistive technology is a part of the Individualized Education
Plan for each student. The educational team for the student must ask if there is a
device that will improve their functional capabilities. If the educational team
discovers that the child could benefit from a device that fits that description, the
school district is required to provide the service along with training to use the
device (Lewis, 1998). The author of this article is a professor in the Department of
Special Education at San Diego University. In addition to his participation in the
Department of Special Education at the University, Rena B. Lewis, PhD is a
member of the faculty of the San Diego State University Claremont Graduate
University doctoral program. She focuses much of her research on the application of
technology for individuals with learning disabilities. Her qualifications alone would

10. Analysis of Phineas and GeneВґs Friendship Essay
Competition and rivalry have the ability to make people shine and accomplish
things they never thought possible, and the ability to bring a person s dark side
and get them to do terrible things. Phineas and Gene s friendship is viewed very
differently by each of them. Where Phineas sees Gene as his best friend Gene sees
Phineas as a competitor. Gene sees him as someone trying to keep him from being
successful in school. This warped view of their relationship is the cause of many of
the eventual problems of the novel and arguably the death of Phineas.
Competition between peers makes people strive to try and be better than their
opponents, and can be healthy or unhealthy depending on the competitors and their
responses to the competition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes this causes built up resentment and eventually could cause both of the
friends to be hurt because of one rash decision like shaking a tree branch. While
only Phineas was physically hurt Gene was in an emotional battle with himself
about what he has done to Finny and what he thinks of him. Eventually the other
boys at Devon find out Gene shook the tree branch, which causes them to lose
respect of him. The thought of shaking Phineas out of a tree would have never
normally crossed Gene s mind but him viewing Phineas as a competitor instead of a
friend made the idea seem fine for the split second it took for him to shake the
branch. The idea hit him just like when he thinks about stealing the doctor s car. He
only even thinks about shaking the limb for an instant, a single life changing
moment, and with some kind of blind impulse , as Phineas describes it, he shakes the
branch. In contrast when he idly considered stealing a car even if he thinks about it
for a second he can decide not to after the first few steps. Once the tree branch is
shaken Phineas fate is sealed. Competition and rivalry can cause people to replace
trust in each other with protection from each other and cause them to build up walls
to separate and protect themselves from their competitors. Not everyone constructs
these fortresses of secrets and distrust. Some people are open and trusting of

chronic dehydration. It is also bad for our teeths, a research done showed that
drinking soda regulary may cause cavities and gum disease. One of the things that I

13. Similarities Between Ancient And Modern Dictators Hitler
Throughout the years, the world has had its Fair share of Ancient and Modern
dictators. The word Dictator originated as the title of a magistrate, in the Roman
Republic appointed by the Senate to rule the republic in times of emergency.
(Freeman, 2008). Dictators eventually became known to be the ruler in total power
over a country, typically one who has obtained control by force. (Freeman,2008) The
ancient dictatorNero and Modern dictator Hitler both used their power to provoke
terror and absolute fear within their people, as well as both committed genocide on a
particular group in which they felt that played a big part in their country s demise.
Although there are thousands of years separating the ruling between the ancient
Dictator of Rome; Nero and the modern dictator Hitler, it didn t stop events from

15. How To Create Tension In Back To The Future
One of the most fascinating films of 1985 explored the fantasy of time travel. The
film Back to the Future, directed by Academy Award winning Robert Zemeckis and
Steven Spielberg, was one of the most successful trilogies ever created. The film
follows an average high school student by the name of Marty Mcfly, and Doc Brown,
a crazy but genius scientist. Doc has created a timemachine disguised as Delorian,
that he s spent his entire life savings on. When Marty and Doc first test the time
machine, they are suddenly interrupted by Libyan terrorists, who Doc stole the

It leaves the audience thinking of different outcomes and consequences of Marty s
decisions. The more and more Marty tries to help his father try to get Loraine, the
more she falls in love with Marty. Tension grows the farther and farther apart his
parents grow apart. Some of the technical elements of suspense also show up. The
different camera angles used create different views from the characters. In the
dining scene where George is going to ask out Loraine, Biff shows up. Marty trips
him, and as Biff stands up, Marty s look of bravery changes to worry. The camera
angle is over Biffs shoulder, and shows only the eyes of Marty as he stands up.
Also, tension grows with Marty and Doc, as Marty knows when Doc dies.
Whenever Marty tries to tell Doc, he s either distracted by something, or Doc tells
him otherwise. At the end, when we are left with the thought of the same outcome,
we see how Doc did look at Marty s note, and then the tension is relieved. This is
also one of the main subplots of the

17. The Wasteland, by T.S. Eliot
In the twentieth century, T.S. Eliot transformed the traditional poetry form into a
more modern style. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 26, 1888. At
the age of 25, Eliot moved to England where he began his career as a poet. Eliot
greatly attracted the modernist movement, which was poetrywritten in the reaction of
Victorian poetry. His first poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, was known as
one of the most famous pieces of the Modernist movement. In his poetry, Eliot
combines themes such as aridity, sexuality, and living death. He uses techniques such
as narration, historical, literary, and mythic allusions. Using themes and techniques
from his earlier work, Eliot publishes The Wasteland.

world of the Wasteland. The wasteland is a place where its boring with empty barren

Thomas Middleton s Elizabethan play, Women Beware Women. This scene
transitions the poem from death to sex and represents the most modernism
throughout the poem. This section also emphasizes on women drinking alcohol,
abortions, and society. Before this time period, these topics were unspoken of.
The third section of the poem is called The Fire Sermon which refers to much about
religion. Referring to Buddha s teachings, this section ties in the image of
lifelessness. This can be understood as youthful passion does not exist anymore. Also,
in this passage Eliot includes how relationships are always failing throughout
lifetime. This flashes back to London when Eliot s wife Vivienne divorces him. The
Fire Sermon refers to the Buddhist sermon that gives the section its title, and
encourages men to douse the fires of lust.
The fourth and fifth section are closely related because they tie in the rest of the
poem together. The fourth section is named Death by water which basically connects
The Burial of Death and ties the whole poem together into one unified poem. The
fifth section What Thunder Said is the final section which brings religion, death, and

18. Maya Case Study Essay
Having read and researched Maya s case study the first question I asked myself
was, what is an Adaptation within the human body? My understanding is that an
adaptation within the body is the long term physiological changes in response to
frequent training, allowing the body to meet new demands and help in the
additional stresses that are placed on the body itself. In the case of Maya, I have
studied the chronic adaptations of Maya s muscular and cardiorespiratory system
as a response to her three months training and indeed her target goal to return to
her preferred sport of tennis. I believe that although Maya would be training in the
correct way, playing tennis again as well as the exercise regime she has designed
would enable her to return to a good level of fitness, and the standard that she had
previously played. Maya s exercise regime would enable her to strengthen her
requirement and aspirations to play tennis again. Training exercises when lifting

Maya s resting heart rate would also decrease as her training progresses due to the
circulatory system being more efficient. Accumulating lactic acid is much lower
during higher levels of activity, due to the circulatory system providing more
oxygen resulting in the removal of waste products faster. Arterial walls become
more elasticated which allows greater tolerance of changes in blood pressure. This
would result in respiratory muscles (Diaphragm/intercostals) increasing in strength
thus giving a larger respiratory volume, which would allow more oxygen to be
diffused into the blood flow (VO2 max). This effect on Maya s body would lead to
an increase in the number and diameter of capillaries surrounding the alveoli leads to
an increase in the efficiency of gaseous

Have you ever had a problem with the dress code at your school? School that I
attend has numerous problems dealing with the dress code considering some of the
students decided not to follow it. Teachers have to take some time out of their class
time to send the students to the office for dressing inappropriately. Since students
cannot follow the simple dress code, schools should require students to wear uniforms
. Few public schools in the Tennessee require students to wear uniforms. In the
current society, all you see in the schools is a dress code. In several countries, schools
require students to wear uniforms. For instance, the school that I went to in India
required uniforms too. Public schools requiring students to wear uniform will give
them a sense of identity, increase their academic performance in the school, and
reduce discrimination between the students.
Frist of all, uniform gives students sense of identity; it creates a feeling of oneness
and belonging to their school. If you gather a group of people and dress them all in
a mutual way, they are likely to develop a group identity and a group ethic that has

Moreover, NaOH cannot replace Na2CO3 for it generally do not satisfy above
requirements and very hygroscopic in nature. On the other hand, 0.05 M HCl is
called the standard solution. An ideal standard solution[3] is (1) sufficiently stable to
determine concentration, (2) reactive with the analyte so that the time required
between additions of titrant is minimized, (3) completely reactive with the analyte so
that satisfactorily end points are realized, and (4) selectively reactive with the analyte
that can be described by a simple balanced equation. The standardization of the titrant
aims to know the exact concentration of the titrant (its deviation from the
measurement done). Two basic methods are used to establish the concentration of
standard solutions: (1) direct method, in which a carefully weighed quantity of a
primary standard is dissolved and diluted to an exactly known volume in a volumetric
flask, and (2) standardization by titrating (a) weighed quantity of a primary standard,
or (b) a measured volume of another standard solution. In the
experiment, the standard solution has been standardized using method 2b[3]. The

21. Analysis Of The Book World Record Hot Dog Eaters
When I was given this assignment I was expecting to end up reading something a
little difficult to follow and full of bland material that was written as colorfully as
possible, making reading a book about economics bearable. This book was quit the
opposite. The book did not consist of GDP, exchange rates, economic trends,
international stage, mixed capitalism or finance. Instead, the book told stories of
world record hot dog eaters, the similarities between famous musicians and kings,
self driven vehicles, ping pong competitions, babies bribed with candy, and the
discovery of the cause of ulcers. The entire book was based upon how we, as
pieces of an economic system, can look at the world and the problems in it from
different perspectives. Think Like a Freak essentially tries to teach the reader how
to do just that; think like a freak. What Does it Mean to Think Like a Freak? The
beginning chapters in this book sets you up to have an open mind and ask
questions about societies perceptions v. reality. The authors challenge the way you
think about things whose answers are seemingly obvious. One of my favorite
concepts of this book is that it tells you the truth about people that society
sometimes causes people not to admit to themselves. For instance, it is sometimes
harder to say I don t know when you really don t know the answer to something
than it is to just give a false answer, although you may be well aware that your
answer is not 100% correct. The
22. Risks of Just in Time Inventory Systems Essay
The Risks of Being Just In Time
The following is a guest article written by Nick Koletic, an economics specialist at
UCLA. In addition to giving a brief background on Just In Time inventory system s
benefits, the article s main focus is the risks that JIT systems face.
Just In Time inventory (JIT) is part of a production system whereby a firm vastly
reduces inventory from its production processes so that utilization of production
inputs and delivery of finished products are accomplished without incurring
significant holding costs. While JIT inventory systems are quite attractive for this
reason, they are a double edged sword. And though a JIT system might even be a
necessity given the inventory demands of certain business types, ... Show more

Shipping the same quantity of a product to different retail outlets, for example, might
not make much sense if the demand for that good is significantly greater at one
location relative to another. This approach to delivery cost savings also facilitates
decreases in aforementioned holding costs by not overstocking certain locations with
a product. The same principle holds for inputs in production; parts are not delivered
and held at production centers where they might lay idle.
Some positive externalities may also result from a firm s decision to implement a
JIT system. Suppliers of such a firm, for example, might then be able handle larger
orders but fulfill them with smaller shipments. That is to say that for any given
order size, supplying a customer that utilizes JIT is typically easier to do because
individual shipments tend to be smaller for these customers and thus tend to be less
demanding of the supplier. So it might be possible for suppliers, merely by the nature
of their customers JIT system, to greatly expand their ability to fill larger orders
without having to increase production capacity.
Several factors, however, make JIT systems a risky proposition. A key concern here
is the extent to which firms are dependent upon particular suppliers under such an
inventory system. For example, if a firm were to commission a highly proprietary
product to a single supplier (single suppliers being common in JIT), a JIT
23. Argumentative Speech On Nightshade
Today, we have a new contender in nightshade lore. Edible nightshades some very
common in our diets are said to cause inflammation. The following are members of
the nightshade family that may be in your kitchen as we speak: Tomatoes White
or gold potatoes Bell peppers Banana peppers Chili peppers Tomatillos Okra Red
peppers used in seasonings (namely paprika) Eggplants Goji berries Aside from
these, an herbal supplement or two belong to the nightshade family. Specifically,
ashwagandha, a common adaptogenic supplement used for mental clarity, anxiety,
and adrenal support. Now we ve come to the moment of truth. Is one of nightshade
deadly secrets that it does, in fact, cause inflammation? Personally, I m leaning
towards saying no, absolutely not. For one, there are no studies drawing any kind
of link between the two. And for what it s worth, none disproving the belief.
Furthermore, the scientific community largely doesn t see cause to perform future
studies exploring this. For now, edible nightshades like tomatoes, and their link to
inflammation remains firmly in the myth category. However, that doesn t mean
that they re fine for everyone. Certain people can indeed be sensitive to
nightshades. As usual, there are a few areas of discussion you ll find around this.
One is alkaloids. A lot of flowering plants contain natural alkaloids in the flowers
and foliage, as well as the fruit. But when the fruit ripens, the alkaloid levels drop
off. The purpose of the presence of alkaloids is thought to be as a protective agent
for the plant in the wild. As a matter of fact, we extract alkaloids all of the time for
drugs. Even in modern times, plants are still essential to medicine. For instance,
morphine and nicotine are both alkaloids from plants (poppies and tobacco,
respectively). Alkaloids are even the subject of study for use in easing depression,
and can be part of cancer treatment. As we can see from the examples above, plant
alkaloids can be either healing and harmful. From strychnine to novocaine, plant
alkaloids can inspire very different reactions in humans. But with the common
nightshades we eat, the primary alkaloids of concern are solanine, tomatine, and
capsaicin. Capsaicin is the

The method of choosing the president proved to be But one of many vexing
problems for the fifty five men who assembled in Philadelphia in May 1887
(Euchner, and Maltese 2). Our forefathers were faced with many hard decisions that
would have repercussions for the next two centuries. One of the most perplexing
problems facing them was the question of how to elect a president. They had to
choose from three main systems: elect the president by congress, the people, or
electors. There was much debate over this topic in the constitutional convention until
eventually the Electoral Collegesystem was chosen to elect our president. The

Some people think that the system would work better if all the states were required to
use the same method of choosing electors, but the constitution protects the states
rights in this case.
The legislative system never gained very much support because of too much
bargaining, promises, and payoffs. The district system eventually lost popularity
because it encourages third parties, which went against the wishes of the
forefathers. This left the general ticket system in the drivers seat. This system
turned the electors into 538 of the most powerful people in the country. There are
two states that still use the district system, but the remaining 48 states use the
general ticket system ( Electoral College I 256). The voter votes for either the
president or the party that they wish to hold office, but this can cause a problem if
there is an unfaithful elector. Electors are expected to follow the people s will by
voting for candidates winning the popular election in that state. Electors that do not
vote for what they are expected to vote for are considered faithless or unfaithful
electors. 26 states do not require electors to vote for whom they have

In Kindred, Dana is repeatedly teleported back to the 1800s to help her ancestor,
Rufus Weylin, out of trouble. Unfortunately, this is also the time when slavery was
alive and well. Dana, a black woman, gets whipped and treated like most other
slaves at the time. Short of fearing for her life, feeling dizzy, and teleporting back to
her time, there is no easy way out. Dana has to consent to this treatment to survive.
Among other scenes, this shows that when slaves see no easy way to escape, it s
much easier to submit than risk punishment or death. Slaves are made by forcing
people into slaveryand making escaping or resisting very difficult.
When Dana and Keven are both in 1819, Kevin takes a job tutoring Rufus and Dana
helps the house slaves. When they sit in the woods one day, Kevin points out how
little there is to see, angering Dana. She mentions Robert s whipping, saying Weylin

stood there. Did nothing. Kevin says there is nothing she can do that won t get [her]

In the aptly named cotard delusion, one believes that a person either was never born
or has perished. In the delusion of infidelity, a person believes incorrectly that their
concubine or wife/husband has not maintained loyalty to them. In the delusion of
guilt or sin or delusion of self accusation, one can exhibit an unfounded feeling of
horrible regret or guilt. Some other delusional themes are more straightforward in
their naming convention: the delusion of mind being read and the delusion of
poverty, for example.
More significant delusions include grandiose religious delusion in which the
schizophrenic person believes himself to be a messianic figure or even a deity
vested with divine powers. This can lead to the formation of cults, as is evidenced
by the schizophrenic behavior exhibited by David Koresh, the cult leader of the
Branch Davidian cult which was terminated in a violent siege with the United States
of America in the state of Texas.
Some sickening delusions can be the somatic delusions. These somatic delusions
pertain to the delusions that directly affect the body and/or stimulate the senses.
Some victims can suffer from delusional parasitosis. In delusional parasitosis, one
feels as though they may be infested with insects, bacteria and sundry other creepy

28. Skinner s View On Psychology And The Contrasting Views
Of...
Introduction
This essay will explore B. F. Skinner s view on the focus of psychology and the
contrasting view of the mentalists. It will then go on to consider the benefits of
Skinners way of seeing psychology and thus how he was able to turn psychology into
a science with measurable outcomes and bring evidence into a subject that had
become subjective and unquantifiable.
Purpose of Psychology
Skinner stated that the purpose of psychology should be the study of behaviour. He
had come to this conclusion whilst performing studies on rats. (Skinner, 1938).
Mentatlistic approach
Prior to skinner the pervading view of behaviour within psychology was concerned
with thoughts and inner feelings that were thought to directly cause
behaviour.(Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007)
Skinner thought that the study of psychology had remained unchanged for centauries
and that the subject had made virtually no progress.(Skinner, 1973)
He believed that behaviour should be studied in a scientific way rather than an
introspective way.
Natural Science
Behaviour Psychology or Biology D M (1)
(Blackman, 1991) puts the case forward that the study of behaviour should come
under the subject of biology rather than psychology on the grounds that behaviour
occurs naturally when consequences are applied. Skinner had said a similar thing
himself in (1963) when he considered the choice of the placement of behaviour in the
scheme of things. He said that if the mind was going to be the subject

PHIL2005 Essay Plan
Introduction
Scientific realism has long been debated as one of the many perspectives in the
philosophy of science. As it explores the very basis of scientific knowledge, it is an
attitude that finds itself intimately linked to nearly all aspects of the field. By
convention, scientific realism varies in its definition, however according to the
Stanford Encylopedia of Philosophy it has a core body of ideas composed of an
epistemically positive attitude towards the outputs of scientific investigation,
regarding both observable and unobservable aspects of the world . In order to display
the apt nature of this attitude it is important to touch on the likes of the significance
of human perspective and the idea of a mind indepedent world, the Inference of the
Best Explanation Theory and the idea of observable and unobservable entities.
Scientific realism is an efficient attitude in the philosophy of science as it draws focus
away from purely human conception to unobservable entities which all of which
point to scientific realism being a superior attitude among others in the philosophy of
science.

In the sun also rises Hemingway s character development of Jake Barnes helps us
understand the theme of this book. The way Hemingway does this is through the
diction and character development of Jake. Jakes character development is built
through a character foil with Robert Cohn, which emphasizes jakes character. Then
this character development helps bring the reader to the theme of identity.
Furthermore Ernest Hemingway builds the character of Jake by making him the
character foil of Robert Cohn which helps emphasize not only jakes character, but
also Jake s flaw. Jakes flaw can be interpreted through the character foil as him
summiting to what life during the war was like even after the war. Jakes flaw is
caused by the hardships he endured during the war, which makes Jake come to know

We see his insecurity when he says at the Cathedral, I was a little ashamed, and
regretted that I was such a rotten Catholic, but realized there was nothing I could

fix it. It is evident that Jake doesn t want to do anything about his problem because
when he says, , at least not for a while, and maybe never , he knows the problem is
there but dismisses it by saying never.
To conclude Jake in the sun also rises is important to the book s plot because
Hemingway builds Jake s character through a character foil to emphasize Jake s
overall character, and that character development contributes to the theme of identity
which Jake thinks he has under control but actually doesn t. The fact that he doesn t
have his identity under control explains Jake s strong acceptance to his past war

California shifted greatly in its early years. From being predominantly inhabited by
Native Americans, to being conquered by the Spanish, being declared a part of
Mexico and finally being claimed by the United Stated in 1846. Shortly after, gold

The United Stateswould then acquire official statehood in 1850. In the pre war era,
there were nearly 10,000 people of Spanish decent inhabiting California. However, in
1850 the percentage of people that spoke Spanish in California was at 15%. Yet it
would soon drop yet again to a dismal 4% by 1870 (Pitti).

told me that the public school system needs passionate and dedicated teachers to
assist in educating students who do not have the same privileges as private schools.
She explained that public schools need teachers who will help students strive to the
best of their abilities. With fewer resources, support, and funds public schools would
benefit greatly from educators who choose to teach their students through hard work
and commitment. Originally I had planned to become an educator at Kamehameha
Schools, the schoolwhere I graduated. The advice I was given has convinced me
that by choosing this career path, I will need to work very hard and make an effort
not only to earn my degree, but also fulfill the requirements of a great teacher. A great
teacher is someone who not only enthusiastically teaches a subject, but also makes a
difference in the lives of his or her students. Teaching goes beyond the classroom, and
lessons not only teach students about the subject, but about life as well. In my
experience throughout my education, the teachers who have made an impact are the
ones who actively participate in teaching their students and make sure that they
understand the concept, and how it affects the bigger world around them. I chose

three main reasons. The reasons are as follows: 1) This form of work is not
regarded as an actual job or employment by many 2) The practice of domestic work
is embedded in racial roots and practice 3) There isn t a market for individuals
volunteering to do paid domestic work. For the sake of this argument, I will focus
on the care of children as the only form of paid domestic work, particularly the
children of privileged or upper middle class families executed by women who are
minorities. When thinking about a traditional job with an employer and employee,
nannies are not the first to come to mind. When working as a nannyyou are expected
to tend to three different things: the children, the house, and the lifestyle and values
of the employer. As explained by Hondagneu Sotelo, Parents hire nanny/housekeepers
to do work involving intimate care, yet many fundamentally resist the idea that these
services require monetary compensation (Hondagneu Sotelo 120). Although this job
involves the worker partaking in both physical and emotional labor, which isn t a
requirement for other jobs, it is still seen as one that isn t actually employment and
shouldn t yield
41. Argumentative Essay On Student Debt
Student loan debt is growing rapidly in this country and many students default on
their student loans due to a lack of education about finances and budgeting. These are
two difference sources that give average figures about student loan debt. I think when
students are graduating with $20,000 in loan debt, that s not a thing to ask and still
expect all of their future prospects to be intact (Pugh 2012); this is the second
source: The class of 2017 will leave with an average debt of roughly $35,000.
(Belkin 2017) These two sources were written only five years apart, yet the amount of
student loandebt on average, per student rose more than $10,000 dollars in that time
frame. Today, 44 million consumers share $1.4 trillion in borrowed student... Show

This increased the odds that a student would default on their student loans.
Defaulting can cause long reaching problems for the students future. Sometimes, it
can cause the entire loan balance to be due at once, and if it is not paid can cause
serious issues. It can stop approval for low interest credit cards, it can stop a student
from being approved for housing due to a low credit score, and it can even prevent
a student from passing a background check for a job The problem with student loan
debt is that it is a wide scale problem that affects so many people and it doesn t have
an easy solution. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB),
in 2012, at least 850,000 private loan borrowers were in default in the amount of
$8 billion... analysis found that the lack of affordable repayment plans, not a
disregard for the debt, drove many borrowers to default. (Crowell) It may be easy
to blame the lenders for students going into default as this source does, but that is
not what college is about. College is about learning and starting to take
responsibility for your own life; even it if it means borrowing money from a
predatory lender to acquire that
