This document summarizes the learning process of creating a media product. It discusses using conventions from real media like bold titles and photos. It represents a youth audience interested in rap and hip hop. Large publishing companies would be suitable to distribute it. Feedback was gathered from the target 16+ audience to make it appealing. New skills in Photoshop and Picasa were learned to create and edit photos professionally. Looking back, the preliminary work could have been improved by applying the new skills gained.
2. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
This is an example of a media product.
It has bold and bright writing for the title so
that it is seen easily and catchy. It also
shows that it is important if it is in bold
capital letters.
Most common media product have a large
famous artist photograph as their
background of the front cover.
They show the bar code in the corner with
usually the price of the magazine in small
writing.
Small writing.
3. Here is my media product which includes some of the
elements professional media products would use
such as:
The bar code
The bold and bright writing for the title
The large photograph as the background cover
Quotes in small writing
4. 2.How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
• The magazine genre for my media product is
“Grime” so to be able to attract the right people as
an audience I had to include all the right elements
for it. The language is one of these elements that
needed to be included in the products, different
types of language are used for different types of
magazine genre so I had to match the typical
language that the reader is used to.
• Compared to other magazine covers you can tell
that mine is aimed at an audience which likes Rap
and Hip/Hop which is stereotypical.
• As you can see from the way it is laid out and the
image used it is aimed at a completely opposite
audience. Here is an example of my front cover
and a classical music magazine and you will see the
difference there is. The fact that I used a young
model for the background photograph of the front
cover shows that it is aimed a youths. The
stereotypical dress code of young people these
days are ‘hoodies’ which is a sign of youth.
compared to the other magazine the model looks
more formal than the one I have.
5. 3.What kind of institution might distribute your media product
and why?
• The type of institution that would distribute this product will
probably be Haymarket or IPC. Both of these are publishing
companies that distribute more than thousands magazines a
year such as NME, Rugby world, Nuts and so much more.
• I think these two companies would be suitable for the type of
magazine that I am trying to distribute because they both
distribute magazines that young people would be interested in.

6. 4. Who would be your audience for your media product?
• The type of audience for this media
product will be targeted to 16 years olds
and plus. Because of the genre of the
magazine, the information given and the
language used.
• it wouldn’t attract older generation
because of these factors that’s why I am
keeping it between young people.
7. 5. How did you attract/address your audience?
• For this part I used the questionnaire to know who
likes what type of music these days and what kind of
music are mainly popular.
• I asked a wide variety of people age 16+, boys and
girls about their type of music and from there I knew
where to go and what to include. I basically took all
the information from the audience because we are
trying to please them in what we do.
8. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
construction this product?
• Before starting this project I already was familiar with Photoshop element because of some previous work
I did. However I did discover and learnt new things on this software which really helped me create this
media product. Some of the things I learnt how to use on this software Is the ‘clone tool’ which is here to
pick out an selected area that you have chosen and past it on the new area you want to be on.
• I also learnt how to use Picasa 3 which is a similar software to Photoshop but a more basic and simpler
way to edit your photographs.
9. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
• I’ve learnt how to use the software properly when I started doing the full product so my preliminary was
quite poor. I didn’t put so much effort into my preliminary but I made it look basic just for an idea for the
full product.
• When I first started on the full product I went back on my preliminary and looked on the things I had to
improve and put more work into so that it looks more professional.
• However now that I know how to use these software I could easily make my preliminary look more
appealing and professional, this product developed my skills which is good.
