Case Study Of Catering For Dementia
ntroduction Chapter One
1.1 What is Dementia?
Dementia is a broad term used to describe a various amount of diseases that are associated with the
decline in the mental state. One of the most common forms of dementia is Alzheimers. It is the main
culprit for almost half the cases of dementia seen in patients (O Shea, 2007). Other common forms of
dementia include vascular dementia, mixed dementia and lewy body dementia. The more uncommon
forms of dementia include picks disease, creutzfeldt jacob disease, parkinsons and huntington disease.
There is no specific cause for dementia. There have been more cases each year of younger patients
below the age of 65 years old with the disease which shows that old age is not the only factor in the

(2015) has described dementia in Ireland as underfunded and under developed . This is an issue in
Ireland because there is a fast growing rate of dementia patients seen each year. The increase in the
number of dementia patients makes it even more important to provide more community resources,
such as community projects and more community services.
The various methods of housing and care facilities in the EU are housing with care, sheltered housing,
hostels and specialist care units. The main form of care for people suffering from dementia is family
and home care. There are very few care facilities located in Ireland compared to those in other EU
countries. People with dementia usually do not receive the treatment and attention that they need until
it is too late. Cahill et al. (2012) explains that the funding system in Ireland is more supportive of
home care rather than long term care facilities. Only 6% of dementia funding is available to
community care services. It is a large belief that most patients with dementia are disregarded or
ignored due to the fact that the process of caring for them is difficult and stressful for nurses and
doctors (Walsh et al.,

Herberger And Hale
Hale s production of You Can t Take It With You was breathtaking with its core concepts, portrayal of
emotion, and plot. When comparing this with Herberger s production of You Can t Take It With You,
you can begin to see the ideas mixing together as they bounce of one another so well. However, not all
things were exactly alike in the two seemingly identical versions of the same play. The first concept in
which ideas were ever changing was the interpretation of characters in both plays. In Hale s
production, Grandpa as seen as an slow, semi serious man; but when looking at Grandpa in Herberger
s production, you can see him as a more of a lively, humorous character. This change in portrayal can
also be seen in Rheba. In Herberger s play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some props that I felt were used differently in both productions mostly pertain to the aspect of music.
In the Herberger s production of You Can t Take It With You, music is incorporated a lot in ways such
as commercials, cello, and guitar. Hale s show lacked all of these elements that I felt really helped
contribute to the sense of family and fellowship in You Can t Take It With You. By incorporating the
commercials, the audience could effectively be transported to a place in which it is 1938. This really
helped change the mindset of the audience into allowing them to connect with the characters in the
production on a deeper level. The guitar was also very important, because it also introduce a new
member into this family. By adding the guitar, Herberger s production was able to give the Vanderhoff
s a range of kindness/generosity. This showed the audience that the Vanderhoff s would take in anyone
no matter background, personality, or timing of arrival. This really secured the bond in this
wonderfully bizarre group of people, allowing a connection to be formed between the audience and

Wings
Wings The film I watched was available on Netflix. Wings is a 1927 silent film produced by Lucien
Hubbard and directed by William Wellman. This film was popular in the late 1920s because its was
one of first kind of its genre. Wings was more of a dramatic type movie with little components of a
slapstick film. Mise en scene was a major part of the movie because Wings was a silent film. Wings
was the first film of many things, including awards and filming techniques. Wings was a popular
movie because of the aviation type movie. This fit in the 1920s era because of World War 1. World
War 1 started in 1914 and ended in 1918 allowing the story to be based of the war. However, the story
followed two young aviators instead of ground troops. This was ... Show more content on

There were parts in the movie that were meant to be humourous. The movie starts off with a young
man working on his car, having funny slapstick components. However, throughout the movie the
characters become more involved and serious. Because of the long film this was built up seamlessly.
The movie also incorporates a love story in it. As the movie progresses one of the main characters
show the idea that he won t make it . This later than is followed through and is accidentally killed by
his friend. This was a peak in the movie as a dramatic genre movie. At the end his goes on to fall in
love with a women that liked him, which would a mix of a dramatic/love film. One of the main
features with Wings is it is a silent war film. Props and cinematography were emphasized. Throughout
the movie props were used to tell a story with each item having a significant meaning. The
composition of the film outstanding. It provided the viewers at the time the experiences in war. The
producer and directors did not skimp on sets. Sets were played on the military base providing the
realism to the film. Many extras and pilots provided visual on how enormous the war was. There were
night and day shots within the film, at both times were acceptable considering the equipment

L. Frank Baum s The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz
Lyman Frank Baum, better known as L. Frank Baum, was an incredible American author. Many
people are quite familiar with the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and it is a favorite to many.
However, the last few generations are not familiar with its author, Baum. What most people fail to see
is that his life was full of many twists and turns, ups and downs, and more failures than successes.
Unlike most writers, Baum did not go into great detail with setting or character. His unique style used
simple vocabulary, made up words, and fantasy. Shockingly, he did not intend for there to be morals in
his stories. Baum created his stories simply to entertain children in a way that did not frighten them,
unlike fairytales of the past had been. L. Frank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During those years the Great Dakota Boom occurred. There were several factors for that event. One
reason being the changes to the government s land laws. The Pre emption Act allowed a person of 21
years and who was a citizen, to purchase 160 acres of land for $1.25 per acre. However, many farmers
did not have enough cash all at once to buy 160 acres. So, in 1862 Congress passed the Homestead
Act, which provided a free 160 acres to anyone of at least 21 years and who was a citizen. The settler
had to move onto the land, build some kind of residence (usually small clapboard or sod structures),
break at least ten acres of sod, and plant a crop. After five, but no more than seven years, the
homesteader received title to the land with the payment of small fees (Tweton, D. Jerome, Dr.). The
Timber Culture Act of 1873 was passed by Congress to provide an additional free 160 acres if the
farmer planted ten acres of trees. If the trees continued to live for eight years, they would be granted a
title. Free land was a powerful incentive to come to North Dakota (Tweton, D. Jerome, Dr.). There
were many other factors including new transportation systems and the search for more prosperous
land. In 1888, L. Frank Baum and his family moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota believing they would
prosper from the Great Dakota Boom. He then founded Baum s Bazaar, not knowing that it was the
end of the boom.

Metropolitan Avenue And The Victorian Era
724 Metropolitan Avenue, which was where I now lived. The three storey champaign house with a
total of twelve bedrooms, six large bathrooms and six small. The expensive house was decorated in
the theme of the Victorian era from the 1830s to 1901, with the main palette consisting of exquisite
and aristocratic furnitures contrasting with pale walls. The furnitures were predominantly decorative
delicate flowers exquisite beauty but equally splendid. Olivia liked the shades of red and purple,
Edward favored paler colors and dark green, so it was pretty much depending on the area in the house
that which colors were the dominant one. The house also had a small garden where Olivia grew her
small vines below a steel framework, over the years, they formed a small vergola on the corner of the
garden, we often sat under it, read on pleasant summer days or drank hot chocolate on cold winter
days, with a small flame we would grill marshmallows, enjoying the sweet taste of milk, sugar and
vanilla melting on the tip of our tongues. I pushed the front door open, and the scented warmth
engulfed me with delighted glee. Obviously Olivia and Edward were busily preparing for the
Thanksgiving dinner, so there would be no lunch at all but chocolate chip cookies and nonfat milk. I
greeted them rather half heartedly and went to my own quiet attic, eager to finish the last few chapters
of Breaking Dawn and to move on to The Outsider. Olivia did mention about my note stating that I

Chicago By Carl Sandburg Analysis
Chicago, written by Carl Sandburg is a rousing piece of writing about the lives of people in Chicago
and about the city as a whole. Drawing from his working class roots, he built a raw boned poetry that
violated the poetic norms of the time he cast off inherited poetic diction and form and adopted an
exuberant free verse. The poem is a sordid love affair between a man and his tumultuous city with
Sandburg declaring his affinity for the Chicago and its people despite its downfall, via his anaphoric
stylization, juxtaposition, and anthropomorphisation of the city. To him, it is not just a chimpanzee s
playground, rife with crime, but also his home.
Within the second stanza, no anaphoric phrasing beyond they tell me appear, in hopes to ingrain the
negative connotation to which the outside world attributes to Chicago inside the reader. Each one
coupled with a phrase like, On the faces of women and children I have seen the marks of wanton
hunger (8), evoking a primordial distaste for the city in the reader, a bitterness as this city threatens the
livelihood of women and children. The phrases, disconnected from each other in terms of outright
sounds, kindling a feeling unlike that of the outside world, one of disappearing brilliance, of
melancholy, of a utter slumming. The city is in a tumultuous state, ununited, disconnected with
painted women under the gas lamps luring the farm boys (6) and killers roaming free in the streets (7).
However, immediately after Sandburg

had to fight in defense, as we outnumbered them easily. They started the battle at the top of the hill

Marion Nestle Protein Differences
Marion Nestle had decided to take a deeper look into the cereals that claim to have a good high source
of protein. One brand she had looked into was Cheerios Protein versus regular Cheerios. The protein
content was not that much of a difference, the protein claiming Cheerios had 7 grams of protein per 55
grams of a serving whereas the regular Cheerios have 3 grams of protein per 28 grams in a serving.
The difference is not much. People who are not in the food industry or are worried about their protein
intake do not see how this is not much a difference because they see the higher amount of protein
versus the smaller amount so they go for the cereal with the larger number. This is just a way for the
cereal brand to have a different and maybe

Foreign Affairs And The Pursuit Of Liberty Essay
Foreign Affairs and the Pursuit of Liberty Should America strengthen ties in foreign nations, or remain
neutral when external conflict arises? This question has faced every United States President who has
served, and will continue to stare the chief executive in the face. Whichever way the United States
decides, neutrality or involvement, there are certain pitfalls and triumphs that come from either
decision, but in some incidents the wrong decision can be detrimental. At the start of the nation,
George Washington led the country through times of both involvement and neutrality, eventually
bidding his country a goodbye with his Farwell Address, in which he warned his fellow citizens to
remain neutral if at all possible. As time goes by and the face of war has changes, Washington s advice
may have lost its relevance. In his time, Washington s advice to remain neutral was a word of wisdom,
but as new threats against American liberty arises, the United States President cannot avoid foreign
involvement, but rather engage in it for the sake of the American independence. As President George
Washington addressed his country one last time, he included many warnings in his address. One of
which was the dangers of becoming overly involved in external conflict. The President informs the
people ...nothing is more essential than that permanent, invertebrate antipathies against particular
nations, and passionate attachments for other, should be excluded; and that, in the place

Castles of the Welsh Princes and Gaelic Irish Lords Essay...
The high medieval Welsh princes and Gaelic Irish lords are comparable in several ways. Both had to
contend with the ever growing presence of the Anglo Normans and were able to maintain some form
of native rule throughout the period ( Gaelic lordly settlement 209). Furthermore, castles played a
significant role in the proceedings whether built or captured and whether they were of native origins
or Anglo Norman. This can be attributed to their capabilities of withstanding various scales of warfare
and being one of the means of displaying lordly rank ( Settlement and Society 97). However, the
functions, characteristics, and prevalence of castles are not necessarily uniform across the three
groups. Using the historical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accordingly, the building styles of Welsh castles bear marked similarities to their Anglo Norman
counterparts. (Davis 7) This resemblance, a scarcity of historical records from the Welsh, and the
frequency with which the castles would change ownership make identifying sites built or occupied by
the native Welsh problematic (30). This is compounded by multiple construction phases that would
frequently, but not always, accompany changes in ownership and complicate the archaeological
evidence. For example, Denbigh Castle in Gwynedd was originally a native castle that housed
Llwelyn the Great and his grandson Dafydd ap Gruffudd, but its physical characteristics are lost to
history due to the only remains belonging to a later castle built by Earl Henry de Lacy in 1282 (Davis
52). The remains of Welsh earthwork castles are considered to be indistinguishable from Anglo
Norman. As a result, only 8.5% of the remaining castles accounted for in Wales, thirty six of the four
hundred and twenty seven, are attributed to the Welsh. However, this percentage is not thought to
reflect the totality of Welsh castles. (Chateau Gaillard 11)
The start of Welsh castle building correspondingly occurs after 1066. Welshpool in Powys is the first
castle recorded to have been built by the Welsh nobility. This would have presumably been
accomplished after Cadwgan ap Bleddyn took over the region in

Development Establishment(ADE) was formed in Bangalore and he was posted there.
At ADE, Kalam served as a senior scientific assistant, heading a small team that developed a
prototype hovercraft. Defence Minister Krishna Menon rode in India s first indigenous hovercraft with
Kalam at the controls. But for reasons never explained, the project which would have been a
considerable international achievement in those days, was not encouraged. This was probably one of
the reasons why he moved out of ADE in 1962 and joined India s space program.
During 1963 82, he served the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) in various capacities. Here
Kalam initiated Fibre Reinforced Plastics(FRP) activities, then after a stint with the aerodynamics and

How Tragic Patters Grow Individual Characters In Othello

14 November 2014
Othello: To Death Do Us In the play Othello by William Shakespeare we see tragic patters grow in
individual characters such as the main protagonist Othello. Othello is a character of high stature who
is destroyed by his surroundings, his own actions, and his fate. His destruction is essentially
precipitated by his own actions, as well as by the actions of the characters surrounding him. Othello is
an interesting character whose ability to utilize logic is greatly missing when he is led to believe that
his wife has cheated on him. The reasoning behind the false belief is that
Lago plotted the scenario of the handkerchief that was a gift to his Desdemona. The handkerchief was
important to Othello because the handkerchief was a gift that was full of sentiment and meaning to
Desdemona. Lago s wife. Amelia believed that the handkerchief might help her out with her

Desdemona and wanted her to himself. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay My experience at the Riverside Metropolitan Museum
INTRODUCTION Some say that it is better not to dwell on the past because it cannot be changed. To
these people, it is not necessarily bad to reminisce on what has happened throughout the years, but it is
better to focus on what is taking place right now. They believe that the present is another chance to
start fresh and anew without letting past experiences burden them. However, what they do not seem to
realize is that the past, present, and future are interrelated. The present is a result of the past, while the
future depends entirely on the choices, (and course of action for those choices), that are made in the
present. With that being said, studying humanity and past cultures are significant to society.

A Study On Cell Salvage
Cell Salvage
The process of collecting shed blood, its processing and readministration has been termed cell salvage,
autotransfusion, intraoperative blood recovery, as well as cell saving. For the purpose of this chapter,
the term cell salvage will be used. Cell salvage can take place either in the intraoperative period or in
the postoperative period. Salvage can also involve washing of the collected blood or it can be simply
readministered with microaggregate filtration.
The concept of cell salvage was first proposed in 1874 by Dr. William Highmore. In the observation of
a maternal hemorrhage, Dr. Highmore proposed that the shed blood could be defibrinated, warmed
and reinjected. By 1928, there were approximately 200 cases of unwashed cell salvage reported in the
literature related to splenectomies, ectopic pregnancies, amputations, liver lacerations, hemothoraces,
and intracranial operations. , , , The idea of washing salvaged blood and retransfusing only the red
cells came about due to coagulopathy from retransfusion of whole salvaged blood. The first prototype
machine that collected and washed salvaged blood was developed at the Mayo Clinic by Wilson and
Taswell in 1968. The technology was further developed in the 1970s, with several useful devices
becoming commercially available in the same era.
Controversy exists regarding the safety and efficacy of readministering an unwashed shed blood
product. Postoperative unwashed blood salvage has been utilized in a

Las Vegas Movie Analysis
Before watching this movie, I thought Las Vegas is a place that shapes many people s life and decides
their destinies. And the only determine factor of winning money is luck. For example, when two
people bring the same amount of money to Las Vegas, one of them may become a millionaire and
another person may lose everything during one night. However, after watching this movie, my
impression to statistics has totally changed. It seems that people can use statistics to help gain the
greatest advantages in many circumstances. Also, I saw the dark side in human nature. Teacher
Mickey is a main character in the movie. He is a greedy, ambitious person who uses his students to
earn money. Obviously, he is not a qualified teacher. Therefore, I think society should pay more
attention to select teacher, because teacher can directly influence the next generation.
In this movie, the main character Ben is a college student who is good at math. He receives Harford

Effective Supervisor
Introduction
One of the most significant aspects that form a successful business is to have effective Supervisors.
These are the people running your company and making sure everything runs smoothly and
efficiently. Supervisors guide and mentor the employees into reaching their potential. More
importantly, Supervisors are accountable for the work of others. Whether they are physically doing the
work or not, it reflects back on them. That is a great deal of responsibility.
How to be an Effective Supervisor
The Canada Business Network states that Effective leaders often possess a healthy mix of the

appreciation . An imperative aspect to being an effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supervisor Training
Due to the important role a Supervisor plays, there are more training programs out there than ever
before. Training varies from Communication, Coaching and Mentoring, Conflict Resolution,
Teamwork, even Motivation Attitude Improvement. These programs aim to help you increase
productivity, improve communication, gain leadership, and much more. What business owner would
not want their Supervisors attending these programs? Even if you could not afford the travel expenses
to attend a training conference there are many Webinars to participant in that deliver the same results.
Conclusion
Supervisors should be continuously learning how to better themselves and ways to become
indispensable to the company they work for. Effective employees often learn from example and if you
have ineffective Supervisors, expect unproductive staff. Supervisors are the people in the office you
look to for guidance and support, therefore they must obtain certain qualities. Being approachable,
hands on, enthusiastic, supportive, problem solving, providing constructive criticism, as well valuing
your employees, are all fundamental qualities an effective supervisor should possess, however, do not
stop there. Keep learning, keep growing, and become someone all your staff can look up to and aspire
to be. Be the example you wish to see in those you

Finding Your Inner Fish Chapter 1
YOUR INNER FISH
Chapter 1 Finding Your Inner Fish
1. They chose the time period of 375 million year old rocks because they thought that it was an ideal
age to check the transition. They were only able to find fish found in 380 million year old rock and the
animals with limbs in 365 million year old rocks. Sedimentary rocks are ideal because they are made
due to the turns of the river, ocean and lakes. This is the place where fishes and animals are ideal to
live and survive upon. Also the environment, in which they are made, doesn t destroy the fossils and
they preserve them. In 2004, the fossils were found on Ellesmere Island in Northern Canada. This
location was chosen because this is the place where there are no humans or roads or any disturbance
that would forbid them to dig anywhere they want.
2. The fossil of Tiktaalik confirmed a major prediction of paleontology as it shows the characteristics

Obesity: One of the ancient trait we have is to store food in our body when we need that in the event
of the famine. Back in the old days, we use to prey on other animals and hunt and we were
agriculturist. But, in the modern world, there are a lot of people that just eat and doesn t exercise or
not, let the calories burn. They also overstuff themselves, letting the food they had before sit there and
convert into fat. This is the ultimate reason for humans to get overweight. This tells us that our body
was made to eat food in a limited amount and exercising.
Hemorrhoids: The hemorrhoids are caused when the blood doesn t pump through the veins properly.
This would not be the case in the humans that stays active because it would constantly pump the veins.
But, humans who are inactive, this can lead to their veins storing the blood. After a while the vein
would get bigger and bigger and leave a person in pain. This can also lead to the vein getting popped
and all the blood draining out. This also tells us that we have not built to just sit for a longer period of

My First Day At Excelsis Root Canal Specialties Essay
I remember my first day at Excelsis Root Canal Specialties. I was beyond scared and nervous. This
job was my first full time position I have had. To be honest I, never really pictured myself working in
the dental field. I was terrified of the dentist as a child. At that time, I was a newly divorced single
mother of two who had just moved back home with her parents. I was going through a rough patch
and needed a job to survive. I started searching online and applied everywhere. I remember getting the
phone call from the office manager for my interview. I immediately started going through my closet to
find something clean and professional for my interview. I also had to figure what who would watch
my kids while I was working. I ended up trying an in home daycare for my oldest for a little bit which
didn t work out. They both ended up staying with my parents. After I attended the interview, I was
confident in myself that I would be called back for the position. In the beginning, I was walking on
eggshells afraid to make the wrong move. It was around 7:30 in the morning before any of the patients
had arrive. I was introduced to all the coworkers. After that, I was shown to my desk. The office
manager was the person who trained me. We started going over how to check patients in, answer
phones, and verify insurances. When the first patient came in, I felt like a little mouse in a huge church
hall. Whenever I tried to say something, I stumbled across my words. During our lunch

The Condemnation of Blackness
The Roots and Deceived Perception of Racism in the History of America America is a nation from
many, one as stated in our country s original motto. We pride ourselves on the granted equal
opportunity and freedom afforded to each citizen. But are these premises held true and adequately
carried out? My answer is a resounding no! Our country s intricate history provides us with the
foundation that explains why and how discrimination has infiltrated and given the upper hand to the
white race that has dominated the American society, while suppressing races of color. Dating back to
the discovery of the new world we know as the contemporary United States, the African American
race has been segregated and mistreated as exemplified through ... Show more content on

From this he established that the black population was going extinct in America through the process of
social Darwinism (Muhammed 32). This was the idea that those who were the strongest would thrive
and prosper, while those who were weak would not amount to any level of esteem and should be
allowed to die. Explained verbatim from those who participated in the creation of these conclusions,
this was the natural fate of a primitive race, struggling to survive on its own in an advanced civilized
society. (Muhammad 32) These publishers furthered their support by claiming that the use of statistics
in evaluating racial worth was producing more accurate conclusions that were based on a sturdy
ground. (Muhammad 33) Other sociological authorities, such as Frederick L. Hoffman jumped into
this discussion. His publishing of Race Traits and Tendencies of the American Negro focused
primarily on crime statistics involving those of the African American race. He concluded through his
findings that the criminality of the negro exceeds that of any other race of any numerical importance
in this country. (Muhammed 51) Hoffman actively postulated and portrayed his statistics regarding the
African Americans in society as a result of the genetic inferiorities evident in their entire race. This
was also supported by the incorrectly conducted biological findings such as those carried out by
Samuel Morton. He posed that the Negroes

Minotaur Research Paper
The myth of the Minotaur comes from the Island of Crete. King Minos of Crete was the son of Europa
and Zeus, but King Asterion still raised Minos as his own along with his two brothers. To become king
after Asterion had passed, Minos prayed to the God Poseidon to provide him with a spectacular white
bull to sacrifice to the god. Poseidon granted Mino s wish, showing the people, he was the rightful
ruler over his two brothers. Minos however, did not sacrifice the bull and chosen a lesser one in its
place. Poseidon became angry over Mino s disobedience. Mino s wife, Pasiphae, was installed with
lusting desire for the white bull by Poseidon as revenge. With the help of Daedalus and Icarus,
Pasiphae became pregnant by the animal. The name of Minotaur

Argumentative Essay About Public Transportation
It was a summer morning and I boarded the bus alone for the first time. I was not on the school bus,
but rather the RTA. I was one of the first people on the bus, and I sat in a comfortable blue seat
halfway down the center aisle. My first RTA experiences started when I was a young boy, with my
parents of course, but this past summer I rode alone on my way to Saint Ignatius High School for a
summer camp. I learned how to navigate the city of Cleveland and how to use the convenient public
transportation that Cleveland offers. When some of my friends and family heard that I was riding
inner city public transportation their reactions were concerned, surprised, and sometimes even
appalled. Many people read or see reports about crime in the inner ... Show more content on

It is a safe and reliable source of travel. There are many people who refuse to ride or refuse to let their
children ride. It is very important to realize that, yes, there will be bad people, but for every bad
person there s always at least one good person who is willing to help. I ve had many experiences on
the RTA and even ridden public transportation in other countries, and I think the biased opinion that
public transportation is unsafe is an unfair description even after this most recent experience. For
some reason people worry about those intimidating figures on public transportation when they re just
as large of a threat anywhere else. There are aggressive citizens everywhere, but there are also citizens
who are willing to assist. Unfortunately, sometimes people only see and remember those few intrusive
ones when they are downtown or in an urban setting and then form false opinions about an entire
group of people. We need to realize that people in urban areas even if they may be homeless, without
work, or just less fortunate than we are, are not all intrusive and threatening. These people are just as
human as we are and it is irrational to think that they are less than we

American Students Should Allow Students To Learn A Second...
Although there are approximately 7,097 languages spoken around the world, 75 percent of the United
States of America s population cannot speak a second language. Twenty eight percent of Americans
feel that they do not need to know a second language because everyone they know speaks English or
they expect all those they encounter to speak English. Because such a large percentage of Americans
are monolingual, they often struggle to communicate with those in foreign countries because they do
not know the native languages. This is largely due to the lack of language classes offered through the
American school system, and not starting languages early in education. The solution to help close
language and cultural barriers for Americans is starting foreign languages earlier in schools around the
United States. The U.S. does not have a national requirement for students to learn any foreign
languages in school; however it is required in most European countries, Ireland and Scotland being the
two exceptions. Most European countries require their students to study one or two foreign languages
and start teaching those languages to their students between the ages of ... Show more content on

This can be an amazing experience for students, but they can be limited on where they go if they do
not speak any foreign languages. Many students will refrain from studying abroad because they are
scared to study in a foreign country where they cannot speak the native language and do not know the
culture. This fear can get in the way of a students education because studying abroad allows a person
to immerse themself in a foreign culture. Learning a foreign language gives bilingual people access to
resources, people, places, and experiences that a monolingual person does not have access to.
Learning a new language not only helps people understand a foreign language but also helps them

Why the Police were Unable to Catch Jack the Ripper Essay
Why the Police were Unable to Catch Jack the Ripper
In the Victorian Times, smog was a big problem. It made visibility extremely bad, so the murders
would have been harder to witness. There were lots of prostitutes because there weren t many jobs
available for woman, so they were forced on the streets. Most turned to alcohol. The people out at the
time of the murder would have been tramps and drunks, not reliable witnesses. The East End streets
were maze like, and easy to escape from. These were a few of the problems the police encountered.
Jack the Ripper was extremely clever to be able to evade the police the whole period in which he
committed his murders. He chose different locations for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theories were on whom the murderer might be, causing tension in the Whitechapel area and creating
more racial hatred. The press received lots of letters from the murderer but held them back. Like the
Dear Boss letter, They didn t give it to the police for a few days, slowing down any action that could
have been taken.
The police had only just been set up when the murders occurred, so had no previous experience. The
only way to prove someone committed a murder was to catch them in the act or get a confession.
Though they increased the number of officers, they only ever came across the bodies, warm. There
was more than one police force operating in London at the time, which meant that there was a lack of
communication. In fact, the superior officers told their subordinates to not reveal any evidence they
retrieved to their rival force, each police force wanting the glory of catching the Whitechapel
murderer. The Metropolitan police force was responsible for all of London, except the city of London,
which had its own separate, City Police force. They were both working on the case because one of the
murders had been committed in the area where the City Police operated, as opposed to the other ones
which occurred in the Metropolitan police forces area. The Detective methods were not

The History of Chemistry Essay
History of Chemistry
Chemistry has been around for a various amount of years. The beginning of chemistry was first
acknowledged in 10,000 BC. The ancient civilizations used technologies that came to become the
makeup of the many branches of chemistry. These early civilizations would extract metal from ores,
make pottery and glazes, beer and wine fermentation, extraction of chemicals from plants for
medicine, making fat into soap, making glass, and many chemistry related tasks were done.
Alchemists set the stage for modern chemistry by performing experiments and recording the results.
Robert Boyle wrote The Sceptical Chymist in 1661, and in this book it he talks about the difference
between chemistry and alchemy. Although was not the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry Cavendish had isolated hydrogen in 1766. He soon called inflammable air. In 1773, Carl
Wilhelm Scheele discovered oxygen. He came to call this fire air. Scheele had not published his
achievement soon enough, and Joseph Priestley did instead. Priestley revered to oxygen as
dephlogisticated air. He had also invented soda water. In 1789 Antoine Lavoisier, father of modern
chemistry, established the law of conservation of mass, Lavoisier s law. He had made a system which
named chemical compounds. This was put into his book called Methods of Chemical Nomenclature in
1787. This chemical compound naming system is still used today. John Dalton proposed Dalton s law
in 1803. This law describes the relationship the makeup in a mixture of gases and the pressure that
each contributes to the mixture. Dalton had also proclaimed in 1803 that all matter was composed of
small indivisible particles. In 1808 he published New System of Chemical Philosophy where he
proposed a modern atomic theory. In this book he made an outline of the identification of the atomic
theory. Dalton claimed that atoms of a given element possess unique characteristics and weight, and
three types of atoms existed. Those three types are simple (elements), compound (simple compounds),
and complex (complex molecules). There were many uncertainties about Dalton s published book. In

Similarities Between The Odyssey And The Test Of The Great...
Throughout time The Test of the Great Bow has been interpreted in many different ways. Through
Homer s 21 book of The Odyssey, Thomas O Grady s poem The Test of the Bow , and Romare
Bearden s painting The Bow of Odysseus. All three share the same story of Odysseus journey to go
home, string his bow, and win back his beloved wife Penelope. All of the authors interpretations have
similarities and differences shown through tone, conflict and theme through each piece. The readers
are given three very different ideas of tone through each interpretation. Both Homer s 21 book of The

At the time, analysts said the company was expected to be valued at $75 billion to $100 billion. But
according to the filing, Facebook made only $3.7 billion in revenue last year, the bulk of that from
advertising. Until now, advertisers were largely limited to a variety of ad spaces that were positioned
on the right side of the Facebook home page, in addition to creating their own Facebook pages. The
company said a new set of premium ads will run at different points in the site, with a special emphasis
on ads running throughout a user s mobile feed. Facebook s Biggest Stumbling Block: Privacy
Practices Facebook s biggest stumbling block has been its privacy practices. As the world s largest
social network, Facebook has been under intense scrutiny from consumers, courts and regulators
worldwide over how it handles the data it collects from its 845 million users. But as a company
preparing to go public, it is under pressure to find new ways to turn that data into profit. The company
has repeatedly alienated users over privacy as in the case of the 2007 controversy over Beacon, a tool
that automatically posted on Facebook what its users did or bought on other sites. It has also faced
lawsuits over the use of its members like endorsements in ads and drawn scrutiny for a facial
recognition feature. The scrutiny is at its most intense in Europe, where Facebook s data collection
practices have tested the boundaries

  • 2. Case Study Of Catering For Dementia ntroduction Chapter One 1.1 What is Dementia? Dementia is a broad term used to describe a various amount of diseases that are associated with the decline in the mental state. One of the most common forms of dementia is Alzheimers. It is the main culprit for almost half the cases of dementia seen in patients (O Shea, 2007). Other common forms of dementia include vascular dementia, mixed dementia and lewy body dementia. The more uncommon forms of dementia include picks disease, creutzfeldt jacob disease, parkinsons and huntington disease. There is no specific cause for dementia. There have been more cases each year of younger patients below the age of 65 years old with the disease which shows that old age is not the only factor in the deteriation of the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2015) has described dementia in Ireland as underfunded and under developed . This is an issue in Ireland because there is a fast growing rate of dementia patients seen each year. The increase in the number of dementia patients makes it even more important to provide more community resources, such as community projects and more community services. The various methods of housing and care facilities in the EU are housing with care, sheltered housing, hostels and specialist care units. The main form of care for people suffering from dementia is family and home care. There are very few care facilities located in Ireland compared to those in other EU countries. People with dementia usually do not receive the treatment and attention that they need until it is too late. Cahill et al. (2012) explains that the funding system in Ireland is more supportive of home care rather than long term care facilities. Only 6% of dementia funding is available to community care services. It is a large belief that most patients with dementia are disregarded or ignored due to the fact that the process of caring for them is difficult and stressful for nurses and doctors (Walsh et al., ... • 3. Herberger And Hale Hale s production of You Can t Take It With You was breathtaking with its core concepts, portrayal of emotion, and plot. When comparing this with Herberger s production of You Can t Take It With You, you can begin to see the ideas mixing together as they bounce of one another so well. However, not all things were exactly alike in the two seemingly identical versions of the same play. The first concept in which ideas were ever changing was the interpretation of characters in both plays. In Hale s production, Grandpa as seen as an slow, semi serious man; but when looking at Grandpa in Herberger s production, you can see him as a more of a lively, humorous character. This change in portrayal can also be seen in Rheba. In Herberger s play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some props that I felt were used differently in both productions mostly pertain to the aspect of music. In the Herberger s production of You Can t Take It With You, music is incorporated a lot in ways such as commercials, cello, and guitar. Hale s show lacked all of these elements that I felt really helped contribute to the sense of family and fellowship in You Can t Take It With You. By incorporating the commercials, the audience could effectively be transported to a place in which it is 1938. This really helped change the mindset of the audience into allowing them to connect with the characters in the production on a deeper level. The guitar was also very important, because it also introduce a new member into this family. By adding the guitar, Herberger s production was able to give the Vanderhoff s a range of kindness/generosity. This showed the audience that the Vanderhoff s would take in anyone no matter background, personality, or timing of arrival. This really secured the bond in this wonderfully bizarre group of people, allowing a connection to be formed between the audience and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This film was popular in the late 1920s because its was one of first kind of its genre. Wings was more of a dramatic type movie with little components of a slapstick film. Mise en scene was a major part of the movie because Wings was a silent film. Wings was the first film of many things, including awards and filming techniques. Wings was a popular movie because of the aviation type movie. This fit in the 1920s era because of World War 1. • 6. L. Frank Baum s The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz Lyman Frank Baum, better known as L. Frank Baum, was an incredible American author. Many people are quite familiar with the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and it is a favorite to many. However, the last few generations are not familiar with its author, Baum. What most people fail to see is that his life was full of many twists and turns, ups and downs, and more failures than successes. Unlike most writers, Baum did not go into great detail with setting or character. His unique style used simple vocabulary, made up words, and fantasy. Shockingly, he did not intend for there to be morals in his stories. Baum created his stories simply to entertain children in a way that did not frighten them, unlike fairytales of the past had been. One reason being the changes to the government s land laws. The Pre emption Act allowed a person of 21 years and who was a citizen, to purchase 160 acres of land for $1.25 per acre. However, many farmers did not have enough cash all at once to buy 160 acres. So, in 1862 Congress passed the Homestead Act, which provided a free 160 acres to anyone of at least 21 years and who was a citizen. The settler had to move onto the land, build some kind of residence (usually small clapboard or sod structures), break at least ten acres of sod, and plant a crop. After five, but no more than seven years, the homesteader received title to the land with the payment of small fees (Tweton, D. Jerome, Dr.). The Timber Culture Act of 1873 was passed by Congress to provide an additional free 160 acres if the farmer planted ten acres of trees. If the trees continued to live for eight years, they would be granted a title. Free land was a powerful incentive to come to North Dakota (Tweton, D. Jerome, Dr.). There were many other factors including new transportation systems and the search for more prosperous land. In 1888, L. Frank Baum and his family moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota believing they would prosper from the Great Dakota Boom. He then founded Baum s Bazaar, not knowing that it was the end of the boom. ... • 7. Metropolitan Avenue And The Victorian Era 724 Metropolitan Avenue, which was where I now lived. The three storey champaign house with a total of twelve bedrooms, six large bathrooms and six small. The expensive house was decorated in the theme of the Victorian era from the 1830s to 1901, with the main palette consisting of exquisite and aristocratic furnitures contrasting with pale walls. The furnitures were predominantly decorative delicate flowers exquisite beauty but equally splendid. Olivia liked the shades of red and purple, Edward favored paler colors and dark green, so it was pretty much depending on the area in the house that which colors were the dominant one. The house also had a small garden where Olivia grew her small vines below a steel framework, over the years, they formed a small vergola on the corner of the garden, we often sat under it, read on pleasant summer days or drank hot chocolate on cold winter days, with a small flame we would grill marshmallows, enjoying the sweet taste of milk, sugar and vanilla melting on the tip of our tongues. I pushed the front door open, and the scented warmth engulfed me with delighted glee. Obviously Olivia and Edward were busily preparing for the Thanksgiving dinner, so there would be no lunch at all but chocolate chip cookies and nonfat milk. I greeted them rather half heartedly and went to my own quiet attic, eager to finish the last few chapters of Breaking Dawn and to move on to The Outsider. • 8. Chicago By Carl Sandburg Analysis Chicago, written by Carl Sandburg is a rousing piece of writing about the lives of people in Chicago and about the city as a whole. Drawing from his working class roots, he built a raw boned poetry that violated the poetic norms of the time he cast off inherited poetic diction and form and adopted an exuberant free verse. The poem is a sordid love affair between a man and his tumultuous city with Sandburg declaring his affinity for the Chicago and its people despite its downfall, via his anaphoric stylization, juxtaposition, and anthropomorphisation of the city. To him, it is not just a chimpanzee s playground, rife with crime, but also his home. Within the second stanza, no anaphoric phrasing beyond they tell me appear, in hopes to ingrain the negative connotation to which the outside world attributes to Chicago inside the reader. Each one coupled with a phrase like, On the faces of women and children I have seen the marks of wanton hunger (8), evoking a primordial distaste for the city in the reader, a bitterness as this city threatens the livelihood of women and children. The phrases, disconnected from each other in terms of outright sounds, kindling a feeling unlike that of the outside world, one of disappearing brilliance, of melancholy, of a utter slumming. The city is in a tumultuous state, ununited, disconnected with painted women under the gas lamps luring the farm boys (6) and killers roaming free in the streets (7). The protein content was not that much of a difference, the protein claiming Cheerios had 7 grams of protein per 55 grams of a serving whereas the regular Cheerios have 3 grams of protein per 28 grams in a serving. The difference is not much. People who are not in the food industry or are worried about their protein intake do not see how this is not much a difference because they see the higher amount of protein versus the smaller amount so they go for the cereal with the larger number. • 11. Foreign Affairs And The Pursuit Of Liberty Essay Foreign Affairs and the Pursuit of Liberty Should America strengthen ties in foreign nations, or remain neutral when external conflict arises? This question has faced every United States President who has served, and will continue to stare the chief executive in the face. Whichever way the United States decides, neutrality or involvement, there are certain pitfalls and triumphs that come from either decision, but in some incidents the wrong decision can be detrimental. At the start of the nation, George Washington led the country through times of both involvement and neutrality, eventually bidding his country a goodbye with his Farwell Address, in which he warned his fellow citizens to remain neutral if at all possible. As time goes by and the face of war has changes, Washington s advice may have lost its relevance. In his time, Washington s advice to remain neutral was a word of wisdom, but as new threats against American liberty arises, the United States President cannot avoid foreign involvement, but rather engage in it for the sake of the American independence. As President George Washington addressed his country one last time, he included many warnings in his address. One of which was the dangers of becoming overly involved in external conflict. The President informs the people ...nothing is more essential than that permanent, invertebrate antipathies against particular nations, and passionate attachments for other, should be excluded; and that, in the place ... • 12. Castles of the Welsh Princes and Gaelic Irish Lords Essay... The high medieval Welsh princes and Gaelic Irish lords are comparable in several ways. Both had to contend with the ever growing presence of the Anglo Normans and were able to maintain some form of native rule throughout the period ( Gaelic lordly settlement 209). Furthermore, castles played a significant role in the proceedings whether built or captured and whether they were of native origins or Anglo Norman. This can be attributed to their capabilities of withstanding various scales of warfare and being one of the means of displaying lordly rank ( Settlement and Society 97). However, the functions, characteristics, and prevalence of castles are not necessarily uniform across the three groups. Using the historical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accordingly, the building styles of Welsh castles bear marked similarities to their Anglo Norman counterparts. (Davis 7) This resemblance, a scarcity of historical records from the Welsh, and the frequency with which the castles would change ownership make identifying sites built or occupied by the native Welsh problematic (30). This is compounded by multiple construction phases that would frequently, but not always, accompany changes in ownership and complicate the archaeological evidence. For example, Denbigh Castle in Gwynedd was originally a native castle that housed Llwelyn the Great and his grandson Dafydd ap Gruffudd, but its physical characteristics are lost to history due to the only remains belonging to a later castle built by Earl Henry de Lacy in 1282 (Davis 52). The remains of Welsh earthwork castles are considered to be indistinguishable from Anglo Norman. As a result, only 8.5% of the remaining castles accounted for in Wales, thirty six of the four hundred and twenty seven, are attributed to the Welsh. However, this percentage is not thought to reflect the totality of Welsh castles. (Chateau Gaillard 11) The start of Welsh castle building correspondingly occurs after 1066. Welshpool in Powys is the first castle recorded to have been built by the Welsh nobility. This would have presumably been accomplished after Cadwgan ap Bleddyn took over the region in ... He has breathed life into ballistic missiles like the Agni and Prithvi, which put China and Pakistan well under India s missile range. It is too exhausting to track Dr Abdul Kalam s achievements to date. In the 60s and 70s he was a trail blazer in the space department. Defence Minister Krishna Menon rode in India s first indigenous hovercraft with Kalam at the controls. But for reasons never explained, the project which would have been a considerable international achievement in those days, was not encouraged. This was probably one of the reasons why he moved out of ADE in 1962 and joined India s space program. During 1963 82, he served the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) in various capacities. Here Kalam initiated Fibre Reinforced Plastics(FRP) activities, then after a stint with the aerodynamics and design group, he joined the satellite launch vehicle team at Thumba, near Trivandram and soon became Project Director for SLV 3. How Tragic Patters Grow Individual Characters In Othello Charlie Pena Professor Flick English 1B 14 November 2014 Othello: To Death Do Us In the play Othello by William Shakespeare we see tragic patters grow in individual characters such as the main protagonist Othello. Othello is a character of high stature who is destroyed by his surroundings, his own actions, and his fate. His destruction is essentially precipitated by his own actions, as well as by the actions of the characters surrounding him. Othello is an interesting character whose ability to utilize logic is greatly missing when he is led to believe that his wife has cheated on him. The reasoning behind the false belief is that Lago plotted the scenario of the handkerchief that was a gift to his Desdemona. The handkerchief was important to Othello because the handkerchief was a gift that was full of sentiment and meaning to Desdemona. Lago s wife. • 17. Essay My experience at the Riverside Metropolitan Museum INTRODUCTION Some say that it is better not to dwell on the past because it cannot be changed. To these people, it is not necessarily bad to reminisce on what has happened throughout the years, but it is better to focus on what is taking place right now. They believe that the present is another chance to start fresh and anew without letting past experiences burden them. However, what they do not seem to realize is that the past, present, and future are interrelated. The present is a result of the past, while the future depends entirely on the choices, (and course of action for those choices), that are made in the present. • 18. A Study On Cell Salvage Cell Salvage The process of collecting shed blood, its processing and readministration has been termed cell salvage, autotransfusion, intraoperative blood recovery, as well as cell saving. For the purpose of this chapter, the term cell salvage will be used. Cell salvage can take place either in the intraoperative period or in the postoperative period. Salvage can also involve washing of the collected blood or it can be simply readministered with microaggregate filtration. The concept of cell salvage was first proposed in 1874 by Dr. William Highmore. In the observation of a maternal hemorrhage, Dr. Highmore proposed that the shed blood could be defibrinated, warmed and reinjected. By 1928, there were approximately 200 cases of unwashed cell salvage reported in the literature related to splenectomies, ectopic pregnancies, amputations, liver lacerations, hemothoraces, and intracranial operations. , , , The idea of washing salvaged blood and retransfusing only the red cells came about due to coagulopathy from retransfusion of whole salvaged blood. The first prototype machine that collected and washed salvaged blood was developed at the Mayo Clinic by Wilson and Taswell in 1968. The technology was further developed in the 1970s, with several useful devices becoming commercially available in the same era. Controversy exists regarding the safety and efficacy of readministering an unwashed shed blood product. Postoperative unwashed blood salvage has been utilized in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And the only determine factor of winning money is luck. For example, when two people bring the same amount of money to Las Vegas, one of them may become a millionaire and another person may lose everything during one night. We pride ourselves on the granted equal opportunity and freedom afforded to each citizen. But are these premises held true and adequately carried out? My answer is a resounding no! Our country s intricate history provides us with the foundation that explains why and how discrimination has infiltrated and given the upper hand to the white race that has dominated the American society, while suppressing races of color. This was the idea that those who were the strongest would thrive and prosper, while those who were weak would not amount to any level of esteem and should be allowed to die. Explained verbatim from those who participated in the creation of these conclusions, this was the natural fate of a primitive race, struggling to survive on its own in an advanced civilized society. (Muhammad 32) These publishers furthered their support by claiming that the use of statistics in evaluating racial worth was producing more accurate conclusions that were based on a sturdy ground. (Muhammad 33) Other sociological authorities, such as Frederick L. Hoffman jumped into this discussion. His publishing of Race Traits and Tendencies of the American Negro focused primarily on crime statistics involving those of the African American race. He concluded through his findings that the criminality of the negro exceeds that of any other race of any numerical importance in this country. Although there are approximately 7,097 languages spoken around the world, 75 percent of the United States of America s population cannot speak a second language. Twenty eight percent of Americans feel that they do not need to know a second language because everyone they know speaks English or they expect all those they encounter to speak English. Because such a large percentage of Americans are monolingual, they often struggle to communicate with those in foreign countries because they do not know the native languages. This is largely due to the lack of language classes offered through the American school system, and not starting languages early in education. The solution to help close language and cultural barriers for Americans is starting foreign languages earlier in schools around the United States. The U.S. does not have a national requirement for students to learn any foreign languages in school; however it is required in most European countries, Ireland and Scotland being the two exceptions.
