The Legend of Zelda: The Wind
Waker
In the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, you take the role of a boy
named Link who lives on a small island named ‘Outset’. On his birthday,
an unusual group of pirates arrive on Outset claiming to be searching for
a specific woman. Suddenly, a monster, known as the Helmaroc King,
arrives at the island and lunges towards Links sister, Aryll, before
grabbing her in its claws and flying off to a far away island. Devastated by
this loss and with the pirates help, Links sets out on an adventure across
the ocean to find and save his little sister from evil. On his quest, Link
enters many temples faces hordes of enemies to gather the pieces of the
sacred Triforce to save his sister, and put an end to the evil Gannondorf
who was behind the abduction and sought to destroy Hyrule and everyone
on the Great Ocean.
There are many incredible memorable and emotional moments to be
found within the Wind Waker, a personal favourite scene of mine is where
Link leaves the island to embark on an adventure to find his sister. I
would describe The Wind Waker as being an open, non-linear game. This
is due to the fact that the player is put in a large world in which they can
freely explore. They don’t have to go through a series of levels and only
complete the main story, there are tons of side mission and mini games to
do too. Nintendo wanted to get a strong sense of action and adventure
within this game and I feel they have done quite well. There are many
islands to explore and tons of different enemies to defeat.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind
Waker
The game is strongly set around its action-adventure genre as it focuses on the player setting
course on their own adventure, sailing across the Great Sea and discovering new islands,
whilst also following the objectives and destroying any evil that poses a threat to the people
on a large, open world map. Upon the great sea, there are many faces to meet and lots of mini
games and sights to see. To get to these places, the player has to sail on a ship known as The
King of Red Lions and sailing is quite a large part of the Wind Waker. Combat-wise, the Wind
Waker mainly revolves around the use of a sword, shield and skill to defeat, but the game also
gives you a plethora of side-weapons too, such as the skull hammer, boomerang and bow.
These weapons will either deal damage to enemies of perform and effect, such as stunning
them shortly. The player is also tasked with figuring out which side weapons will be effective
on certain enemies, for example, to defeat the boss in the temple of the gods, the player will
have to shoot specific points on the bosses hands in order to stun it so the player can then
move to attack with a bomb to decrease its shields, and then the sword. This shows variety
and increases challenge as the player is not just running at an enemy with a sword all the
time.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind
Waker
The Wind Waker was created with a new engine designed by Nintendo and completed in
2003 for the Gamecube. Since then, the game has been premastered in 1080p HD on the
Wii U as an optical disk or digital download which included updated models, graphics and
a vastly improved dynamic lighting system. The game handles well on the console and is
generally a pleasant experience for the player as many codes and conventions are used in
order to instruct the player on certain events, the story etc. and a lot of help is given, for
example, if the player ever gets lost or is not sure what to do, The King of Red Lions will
be able to inform the player of where to go next. The story is told using a text-based
dialogue system. Characters do not verbally talk, but a box is displayed with text,
corresponding to what that character is saying, inside. To further aid the player, specific
and important text is highlighted so that the player can pick this out and use the
information to figure out the story or where to go next. Gameplay is designed to fit the
age of 7 years or higher, so it does not become too violent as the game is designed by
Nintendo who mostly try to create games to fit a younger audience. Also, the game is
quite popular as it is under Nintendo's famous ‘The Legend of Zelda franchise’.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind
Waker
Common codes and conventions used in the Wind Waker are:
• Large open world – This is great as the player is given a large map
in which they can make their own decisions about where to travel to
and what they can do.
• Varied Combat – Lots of weapons mean more variety for the player,
so they are not just using the same one sword all the time
• Dungeons – There are quite a few dungeons to explore in the Wind
Waker. This follows on traditional LoZ style adventure as every
Zelda game usually gets the player to venture through a dungeon to
find treasure
• Character Variety – No too characters are the same and this makes
the adventure feel more exciting and worth while so you can find
and experience each unique character
• Treasure – This is important for the adventure side as without I,
players would feel like adventuring the open world map would be
pointless as there is nothing to find. Finding new gear is exciting as
it opens up new possibilities as to what the player can do.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind
Waker
As for the characters, there are tons in the Wind Waker and
each one looks very creative and unique. I don’t believe I
have found any form of negative stereotyping in the Wind
Waker due to each character being unique and family
friendly. A positive stereotype would be the character Tetra.
She runs and controls the pirate ship which players will see
at the start of the game, but people would expect that a
giant, strong, male pirate would probably run the ship, so it
is good that a completely different character is used. As we
can see from the image to the left, there are a wide variety
of main characters. There are pirates, zoras, phantoms,
fairies, elves and many more.
Overall, I believe the Wind Waker is a fantastic game. Each
character is brilliant and lovable and the artstyle really
looks beautiful to me. The best thing about this game to
me is its captivating story, however, I believe that the
game should have been made with more content as a lot of
the islands barely have anything interesting on them which
lowers the adventure side of the game and can make some
http://www.wallpapershd-free.com/hdwallpaper/zelda- people disappointed.

Fallout 3
The year is 2277, 200 years after China launched a nuclear attack against
America. The land is in ruins, swarmed with radiation and debris. You begin as
a young toddler growing up in Vault 101, one of the many vaults built by
Vault-tec before the war began to shelter humanity from the destruction it had
predicted.
The beginning of the game is quite unusual, but very memorable due to its
uniqueness. You start as a toddler of the character you created and you focus
on building a relationship with your father. You then go into the future to
when your character is 10 years old and is able to get a pip-boy device for
their arm. When you are 18, your father unexpectedly sneaks out and leaves
the vault, which is not allowed by the overseer, and the players quest is to
leave the vault too in search of their father. The player then embarks on an
adventure across the monstrous wasteland that was once Washington DC in
order to survive and find their father to ensure they are safe. The game
greatly fits its Action-Adventure genre due to this.
There are many great points in Fallout 3 and one of them is the story. I still
remember going through the start of the game in Vault 101 thinking how
incredible and different the starting experience was to other games. There's
also so much to explore in Fallout 3. There are tons of locations and side
quests to explore or fight through which always gives the player something to
do, and I find it quite enjoyable spending time into the wasteland due to its
adventurous feel and variety of monsters to fight. The gameplay revolves
around a first person shooter. Your character has a weapon (gun or melee)
and you need to shoot any monsters or enemies that oppose you in order to
survive. There are so many different weapons to choose from which makes
the player want to adventure to find more, and each weapon feels epic to use
and the action level is made much better by the gore system Fallout 3 uses.

Fallout 3
There is so much to do in Fallout 3. This is due
to having side quests as well as the main
story. Each mission is different and some can
reward the player with some new and unique
weapons. There are also tons of people to
meet in the wasteland, many of which are
very memorable. Combined with the large
open world, this means the player can have
an adventure of there own, which is what the
adventure genre is about. Action wise, there
are tons of different weapons in Fallout 3 so
the player has a large variety to choose from.
For example, they can use a sword, shotgun,
fists, rocket-launcher etc. This and Fallouts
special gore system make a strong action feel.
I would describe Fallout 3s narrative as being
open, multi-strand and non-linear. These 3
combined usually make the best action
adventure games as they require the player to
make choices, as they would in real life and
these choices usually contain a lot of action.

Fallout 3
Fallout 3 uses the Gamebryo engine in which Bethesda ( its developers ) have
used to developer previous games such as The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. It was
released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC as an optical disk or digital download. It works
well with the action-adventure genre due to these codes and conventions:
• Large open world – This is great as the player is given a large map in which
they can make their own decisions about where to travel to and what they can
do.
• Varied Combat – Lots of weapons mean more variety for the player, so they
are not just using the same one sword all the time
• Character/Enemy Variety – No too characters are the same and this makes the
adventure feel more exciting and worth while so you can find and experience
each unique character, or fight a wide variety on monsters instead of just one
type.
• Side missions – These are extra missions in which aren’t necessary to
complete the main story, but can reward the player with good weapons(for
example).
• Treasure – This is important for the adventure side as without I, players would
feel like adventuring the open world map would be pointless as there is
nothing to find. Finding new gear is exciting as it opens up new possibilities as
to what the player can do.
Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption begins with the main
protagonist, John Marston who is a former outlaw,
returning to his home country by ship. It is here two
government workers escort him to a train, but the
government has taken Johns Wife and Son hostage
as they require his services as a bounty hunter. John
has no other choice, Marston is told to bring 3
members of his former gang to justice so that they
do not cause any more trouble.
The game is played in a third-person perspective in a
large open world environment with a wild west
theme. Travelling allows the player to visit not just
the western United states, but Mexico aswell.
Gameplay-wise, there are a lot of gunfights with
gang members, but the game primarily focuses on a
function called “dead-eye” in which the player is able
to slow down time and line up good shots on the
targets.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en
/a/a7/Red_Dead_Redemption.jpg
Red Dead Redemption
Story-wise, I would describe Red Dead
Redemptions narrative to be open, single-strand
and non-linear. This is because there
is a large open world in which the player can
explore, there is only one outcome to the
story and side missions and the player can do
what they want, they are not just forced
down one linear path.
In Red Dead Redemption, there is a little bit
of stereo typing. This is because there are a
lot of women in the game that seem to be
prostitutes, but the game improves on how
racism was in 1911 by not including any at
all. The majority of characters in Red Dead
are unique, entertaining and memorable

Red Dead Redemption
Rockstar San Diego began development of the game in 2005 and used the Rockstar
Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) to construct it. In 2010, the game was released on Xbox
360 and PS3 consoles as an optical disk or digital download . It shares a number of codes
and conventions with the genre, including:
• Large open world – This is great as the player is given a large map in which they can
make their own decisions about where to travel to and what they can do.
• Varied Combat – Lots of weapons mean more variety for the player, so they are not

do.
• Side missions – These are extra missions in which aren’t necessary to complete the
main story, but can reward the player with good weapons(for example).
• Collectables – These keep the player playing the game once they have completed it.
Once all collectables have been found, the player is usually rewarded with something
unique.
Grand Theft Auto 5
Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in 2013. It can
be played from either a first person perspective or
a third and contains a large open world to explore
with a modern theme. The game play revolves
around a mechanic with involves the player being
able to take control of 3 main protagonists, each
with their own stories which end up tying together.
There are also a lot of gun fights involved as well
as driving vehicles such as planes and cars.
The story is set in the fictional world of Los Santos
with Michael - a retired bank robber - Franklin – a
gangster – and Trevor – A psychopath. At the start
of the story, Michael and Trevor robbed banks
together, but Michael got Franklin involved after
they met not long after. They continue to plan
bank heists until one day they decide to go for the
dream which is robbing the biggest bank in the
city. After this, the player is given a choice which
involves one of the main characters dying or
all/none of them depending on your choices in the
final mission.

uploads/2014/06/PS4-Xbox-One-GTA-5-

Grand Theft Auto 5
I would describe GTA 5s story as being open, linear
and single stranded. This is because there may be
many missions available at the same time, but
doing them will eventually just lead to the same
outcome, the game just gives you a choice of which
path to go down first, but it will ultimately lead back
to the main road. There are a few side missions
however, but these simply unlock collectables for
you to find throughout your travels.
I have found that there is a lot of stereotyping in
GTA 5. Firstly, in gangs, it is VERY noticeable that
the vast majority of gang members have coloured
skin. Also, Franklin – who is one of the main
characters – is coloured and the creators have even
made him a gangster who steals cars (which
happens in the first mission) and this can be viewed
as quite racist. Women in GTA 5 have also been set
to be prostitutes. There are few, if not, no male
prostitutes, but there are a lot of prostitutes on the
streets or in clubs that have been added.

PS3 and PS4 as an optical disk or digital download and is set to be
released on PC very soon. GTA 5 shares a lot of the same codes and
conventions as Red Dead Redemption:

It works well with the action-adventure genre due to these codes and conventions: • Large open world – This is great as the player is given a large map in which they can make their own decisions about where to travel to and what they can do. • Varied Combat – Lots of weapons mean more variety for the player, so they are not just using the same one sword all the time • Character/Enemy Variety – No too characters are the same and this makes the adventure feel more exciting and worth while so you can find and experience each unique character, or fight a wide variety on monsters instead of just one type. • Side missions – These are extra missions in which aren’t necessary to complete the main story, but can reward the player with good weapons(for example). • Treasure – This is important for the adventure side as without I, players would feel like adventuring the open world map would be pointless as there is nothing to find. Finding new gear is exciting as it opens up new possibilities as to what the player can do.

Red Dead Redemption Red Dead Redemption begins with the main protagonist, John Marston who is a former outlaw, returning to his home country by ship. It is here two government workers escort him to a train, but the government has taken Johns Wife and Son hostage as they require his services as a bounty hunter. John has no other choice, Marston is told to bring 3 members of his former gang to justice so that they do not cause any more trouble. The game is played in a third-person perspective in a large open world environment with a wild west theme. Travelling allows the player to visit not just the western United states, but Mexico aswell. Gameplay-wise, there are a lot of gunfights with gang members, but the game primarily focuses on a function called “dead-eye” in which the player is able to slow down time and line up good shots on the targets. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en /a/a7/Red_Dead_Redemption.jpg

Red Dead Redemption Story-wise, I would describe Red Dead Redemptions narrative to be open, single-strand and non-linear. This is because there is a large open world in which the player can explore, there is only one outcome to the story and side missions and the player can do what they want, they are not just forced down one linear path. In Red Dead Redemption, there is a little bit of stereo typing. This is because there are a lot of women in the game that seem to be prostitutes, but the game improves on how racism was in 1911 by not including any at all. The majority of characters in Red Dead are unique, entertaining and memorable http://images.gameskinny.com/gameskinny/64 d0f3c6a35708c47340e278c5927bdd.jpg http://files.g4tv.com/ImageDb3/190648_S/Re d-Dead-Redemption-People-Of-The-West- Screens.jpg

Red Dead Redemption Rockstar San Diego began development of the game in 2005 and used the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) to construct it. In 2010, the game was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles as an optical disk or digital download . It shares a number of codes and conventions with the genre, including: • Large open world – This is great as the player is given a large map in which they can make their own decisions about where to travel to and what they can do. • Varied Combat – Lots of weapons mean more variety for the player, so they are not just using the same one sword (for example) all the time • Character Variety – No too characters are the same and this makes the adventure feel more exciting and worth while so you can find and experience each unique character • Treasure – This is important for the adventure side as without I, players would feel like adventuring the open world map would be pointless as there is nothing to find. Finding new gear is exciting as it opens up new possibilities as to what the player can do. • Side missions – These are extra missions in which aren’t necessary to complete the main story, but can reward the player with good weapons(for example). • Collectables – These keep the player playing the game once they have completed it. Once all collectables have been found, the player is usually rewarded with something unique.

Grand Theft Auto5 Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in 2013. It can be played from either a first person perspective or a third and contains a large open world to explore with a modern theme. The game play revolves around a mechanic with involves the player being able to take control of 3 main protagonists, each with their own stories which end up tying together. There are also a lot of gun fights involved as well as driving vehicles such as planes and cars. The story is set in the fictional world of Los Santos with Michael - a retired bank robber - Franklin – a gangster – and Trevor – A psychopath. At the start of the story, Michael and Trevor robbed banks together, but Michael got Franklin involved after they met not long after. They continue to plan bank heists until one day they decide to go for the dream which is robbing the biggest bank in the city. After this, the player is given a choice which involves one of the main characters dying or all/none of them depending on your choices in the final mission. http://cdn.gottabemobile.com/wp-content/ uploads/2014/06/PS4-Xbox-One-GTA-5- Release.jpg

Grand Theft Auto5 I would describe GTA 5s story as being open, linear and single stranded. This is because there may be many missions available at the same time, but doing them will eventually just lead to the same outcome, the game just gives you a choice of which path to go down first, but it will ultimately lead back to the main road. There are a few side missions however, but these simply unlock collectables for you to find throughout your travels. I have found that there is a lot of stereotyping in GTA 5. Firstly, in gangs, it is VERY noticeable that the vast majority of gang members have coloured skin. Also, Franklin – who is one of the main characters – is coloured and the creators have even made him a gangster who steals cars (which happens in the first mission) and this can be viewed as quite racist. Women in GTA 5 have also been set to be prostitutes. There are few, if not, no male prostitutes, but there are a lot of prostitutes on the streets or in clubs that have been added. http://cdn3.mos.techradar.futurecdn.net// /art/games/Rockstar/GTA%205/GTA_5_tri o-578-80.JPG http://www.cinemablend.com/images/secti ons/63150/GTA_5_63150.jpg

Grand Theft Auto5 GTA 5 has been developed on the RAGE engine with Euphoria and Bullet physics engine. It has so far been released on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 as an optical disk or digital download and is set to be released on PC very soon. GTA 5 shares a lot of the same codes and conventions as Red Dead Redemption: • Large open world – This is great as the player is given a large map in which they can make their own decisions about where to travel to and what they can do. • Varied Combat – Lots of weapons mean more variety for the player, so they are not just using the same one sword (for example) all the time • Character Variety – No too characters are the same and this makes the adventure feel more exciting and worth while so you can find and experience each unique character • Side missions – These are extra missions in which aren’t necessary to complete the main story, but can reward the player with good weapons(for example). • Collectables – These keep the player playing the game once they have completed it.
