Rotifera are a phylum of small invertebrates that are commonly found in freshwater environments. They have bilateral symmetry, pseudocoelomate bodies, and a covering called a lorica. Their digestive systems have a muscular pharynx called a mastax lined with cuticle that helps grind food particles less than 10 micrometers in size. They excrete waste through protonephridia and reproduce primarily through parthenogenesis, though sexual reproduction also occurs. There are three main classes - Bdelloidea, Monogononta, and Seisonidea.
