This document discusses the relationship between community engagement, fundraising, and friendraising. It explores whether community engagement is more about fundraising or building relationships. The document notes that fundraising is the process of soliciting voluntary donations, while friendraising involves engaging supporters in an organization's mission and vision. It poses questions about what kinds of friends are needed, how to engage new friends, who the new friends are, and whether an engaged community guarantees financial support.

This training focuses on bringing your colleagues from other departments into fundraising and creating collaboration in your efforts by breaking down silos and building bridges for your colleagues to cross into the realm of philanthropy.

4. Fundraising
• is the process of soliciting and gathering voluntary
contributions of money or other resources, by requesting
donations from individuals, businesses, charitable
foundations, or governmental agencies.
• sometimes used to refer to the identification and solicitation
of investors or other sources of capital for for-profit
enterprises. Traditionally, fundraising consisted mostly of
asking for donations on the street or at people's doors, and
this is experiencing very strong growth[citation needed] in
the form of face-to-face fundraising.
5. Friendraising
• Gathering supporters by engaging
them in your mission and vision
• Providing them with the ability to
see inside your organization and
become involved, “Keep your
friends close…”
6. “Ask for money and you will
receive opinion, ask for an
opinion and you will receive
money!”
