How to Find the Real Need with Socratic QuestioningKent McDonald
A common piece of advice is that your team should discover the true need of your project. Unfortunately advice on how to make that happen isn’t as prevalent. In this session you’ll learn about a simple technique to get to the core of what your stakeholders need that has been around for over 2000 years – Socratic questioning.
Join Kent McDonald as he walks you through a technique aimed at uncovering the (not intentionally) hidden need that your stakeholders are trying to satisfy, without asking “why?” five times in a row. Kent describes the questions, why they work and in what context they work based on his experience with IT organizations and the Agile Alliance. You’ll then have a chance to consider how to use socratic question for a real life situation..
Come learn about this technique so you can use it back at the office to drive toward the right outcome.
Learning Objectives:
* Learn what socratic questioning is
* Learn how to identify your stakeholders needs using socratic questioning
* Determine when Socratic question is an appropriate technique to use
Do you find yourself asking questions like what did ‘just’ happen, what does it mean, without getting satisfying answers? No matter a role we are in, we work with individuals, teams, and organizations where we observe different events and situations in different contexts. How can we make sense out of all of these events and situations? What tools can we use in getting more clarity and understanding? What are the right questions?
If you do find yourself asking those questions, this session will help you discover one approach on how to deal with such situations by combining Michael Spayd’s and Michele Madore’s Integral Agile Transformation FrameworkTM and powerful questions. The workshop will address the perspectives of leadership and mindset, practices and behavior, organizational architecture, and organizational culture and relationships. And in the combination with powerful questions give the opportunity to experience the creation of clarity and understanding.
Objective of the Module
- Achieve more in less time
- Work more effectively
- Manage more business tasks and projects
- Contribute more to business results

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
