De enorme vlucht van de internet technologie maakte in theorie bijna alles mogelijk, maar zorgde hierbij ook voor toenemende complexiteit van systemen. Gebruik van de open protocollen, integreren van de systemen, installaties c.q. plant’s op afstand beheren, biedt enorm veel voordeel (concurrentie voordeel, flexibiliteit, effectiviteit). Maar het brengt ook nieuwe type risico’s met zich mee. Overal om ons heen zien we toenemende afhankelijkheid van de ICT. Dus ook in de Industrie. Dat betekent dat onze industriële systemen ook kwetsbaar worden voor risico’s die op het eerste oog niet zichtbaar zijn.

A beam is an elongated member,usually slender,intended to resist lateral loads by bending (Cook,1999). Structures such as antennas,helicopter rotor blades,aircraft wing s,towers and high rise buildings are examples of beams. These beam-like structures are typically subjected to dynamic loads. Therefore,the vibration of beams is of particular interest to the engineer. The paper reviews the derivation by Crespo da Silva and Glyn (1978) for the nonlinear flexural-flexural-torsional vibration of a cant ilever beam. Also the numerical algorithm used to solve the equation of motion for the planar vibration of the beam subjected to harmonic excitation at the base.
1. In this module we will determine the stress in a
beam caused by bending.

The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

4. What is strain?
Strain is dilation (change in size) and/or
distortion (change in shape).
The Goal of strain analysis is to explain how
every line in a body changes in length and angle
during deformation.
How is this attempted?
5. Homogeneous deformation: systematic and uniform.
Test: straight lines in the body before deformation are
straight after deformation. Circles get deformed into ellipses.
We will assume that deformation is homogeneous!
Heterogeneous deformation: irregular and non-uniform. A
mess to work with, mathematically.

Extension (e): (Lf-Lo)/Lo, where Lf is the final length
of a line and Lo is the initial length of a line
Stretch (S): Lf/Lo, where 0 = severe shortening, 1 =
