Dead Meat Podcast
On the Dead Meat Podcast, their intro has quotes from various horror films
including a quote from a horror film in which someone says the title of the
podcast (Dead Meat). Also, during the intro they have strangely upbeat,
ominous music playing in the background which helps reflect the podcast as
its got a happy, relaxed tone even though they talk about horror movies
which can be a dark topic. In the podcast, it’s very informal as they have
conversations about movies and interviews which flow very naturally which
implies it’s not scripted. It appeals to the audience because the hosts (James
and Chelsea) know a lot about horror movies so they have educated opinions
on the films they review and wouldn’t review them if they didn’t think they
were less than bearable. I personally have watched films that Dead Meat have
reviewed because they do a good job evaluating horror movies and running
down the behind the scenes.

Happy Hour Podcast
On the Happy Hour Podcast, they cover multiple different topics ranging from
comedy and horror but I’ll only be examining the horror ones as my podcast is
horror related. The intro of the podcast is a short, happy tune which reflects
how the hosts interact with each other and the topics as they do it in a funny
way. While reading the stories, they play eerie piano music which helps
unsettle the audience while reading out the already scary stories. The
voiceover is formal when reading out the stories but informal when
discussing it as they make jokes because they are sceptical of the stories. The
Happy Hour Podcast appeals to it’s audience because of their approach to the
stories and how they remain funny even against the grim stories.

The Lights Out Podcast
In The Lights Out Podcast, they discuss true crime that can correlate to
characters and topics in films like The Conjuring, etc. The podcasts intro
consists of tense music and a scary voice that sounds like its from an old film
saying the title of the podcast. The main host speaks in a quiet, relaxing tone
which adds to the creepiness of the podcast, this makes the podcast easy to
listen to which helps when talking about such heinous crimes. On the
podcast, the tone’s formal because he’s talking from a script about true
events and getting the story wrong wouldn’t be doing justice to the victims.
This podcast appeals to the audience because people like learning about what
makes murderers do awful things as most people cant rationalise it.

Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
Every podcast I discussed included an introduction that related to the
podcast by using music, voice clips/quotes from films or both. The
majority of the podcasts have done research but have no script which
makes the podcast flow as it’s just a normal conversation.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on
work? I’ll use an intro and outro in my podcast with music, quotes and
other things that relate to horror so it fits the theme. In my podcast, I will
also do a lot of research on the film that I’ll be covering so I know what I'm
talking about. However, I won’t write a script because I want it to flow
naturally so its not robotic or personality-less.
Audience
Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
The primary audience would be 15-25 year olds
because statistically people of that age range enjoy
the thrill of being scared more. However, the
secondary audience would be 26-70 year olds
because if you’re younger than 15 they’ll be too
scary and if you’re elderly you wont like the thrill of
being scared as much due to health reasons, etc.
The content that appeals to the primary audience of my
product is the length and pacing as its short and fast, this
appeals to younger people as they have a lower attention
span. It appeals to the secondary audience because the movie
I will be reviewing in the episode is a remake of an older film,
that people of an older demographic might enjoy therefore
they could possibly have interest in the new one.
Gender
Horror films appeal to both males and females
because horror movies present males and females
as protagonists so people can relate with both.
The films cast consists of male and female protagonists and
antagonists so people can relate to the characters, meaning
they might have an interest in a podcast reviewing the movie.
Psychographic
The primary audience is belongers because horror
movies are popular so it’s an easy thing to relate
with. Whereas, the secondary audience is achievers
because you can listen to podcasts while being
productive.
The content that appeals to the primary audience is the fact
that it’s a podcast on horror movies, both horror movies and
podcasts are very popular nowadays therefore belongers will
want to fit in by being up to date on popular things. It appeals
to the secondary audience because of the format of a podcast
is convenient and can be listened to while on the go.
Social Status
The primary social status this appeals to is middle
class and working class because that’s my
background so the audience might have similar
opinions to me. Also, the podcast is going on
platforms where it’s free so it’s affordable to people
of these background. My podcasts secondary
audience would be people who come from an upper
class background as they could still enjoy it but just
not as much as working class or middle class people.
The content to appeal to the primary audience is how
affordable and convenient the podcast is to listen to. It also
appeals to the primary audience because we have the same
social status, therefore I might use similar language and have
similar opinions on the movie. The podcast appeals to the
secondary audience because of the convenience although it
isn’t as much of a problem as it is for working class and middle
class people.

  • 2. Existing Products Dead Meat Podcast On the Dead Meat Podcast, their intro has quotes from various horror films including a quote from a horror film in which someone says the title of the podcast (Dead Meat). Also, during the intro they have strangely upbeat, ominous music playing in the background which helps reflect the podcast as its got a happy, relaxed tone even though they talk about horror movies which can be a dark topic. In the podcast, it’s very informal as they have conversations about movies and interviews which flow very naturally which implies it’s not scripted. It appeals to the audience because the hosts (James and Chelsea) know a lot about horror movies so they have educated opinions on the films they review and wouldn’t review them if they didn’t think they were less than bearable. I personally have watched films that Dead Meat have reviewed because they do a good job evaluating horror movies and running down the behind the scenes. • 3. Existing Products Happy Hour Podcast On the Happy Hour Podcast, they cover multiple different topics ranging from comedy and horror but I’ll only be examining the horror ones as my podcast is horror related. The intro of the podcast is a short, happy tune which reflects how the hosts interact with each other and the topics as they do it in a funny way. While reading the stories, they play eerie piano music which helps unsettle the audience while reading out the already scary stories. The voiceover is formal when reading out the stories but informal when discussing it as they make jokes because they are sceptical of the stories. The Happy Hour Podcast appeals to it’s audience because of their approach to the stories and how they remain funny even against the grim stories. • 4. Existing Products The Lights Out Podcast In The Lights Out Podcast, they discuss true crime that can correlate to characters and topics in films like The Conjuring, etc. The podcasts intro consists of tense music and a scary voice that sounds like its from an old film saying the title of the podcast. The main host speaks in a quiet, relaxing tone which adds to the creepiness of the podcast, this makes the podcast easy to listen to which helps when talking about such heinous crimes. On the podcast, the tone’s formal because he’s talking from a script about true events and getting the story wrong wouldn’t be doing justice to the victims. This podcast appeals to the audience because people like learning about what makes murderers do awful things as most people cant rationalise it. • 5. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? Every podcast I discussed included an introduction that related to the podcast by using music, voice clips/quotes from films or both. The majority of the podcasts have done research but have no script which makes the podcast flow as it’s just a normal conversation. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? I’ll use an intro and outro in my podcast with music, quotes and other things that relate to horror so it fits the theme. In my podcast, I will also do a lot of research on the film that I’ll be covering so I know what I'm talking about. However, I won’t write a script because I want it to flow naturally so its not robotic or personality-less.
  • 7. Audience Profile Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience Age Range The primary audience would be 15-25 year olds because statistically people of that age range enjoy the thrill of being scared more. However, the secondary audience would be 26-70 year olds because if you’re younger than 15 they’ll be too scary and if you’re elderly you wont like the thrill of being scared as much due to health reasons, etc. The content that appeals to the primary audience of my product is the length and pacing as its short and fast, this appeals to younger people as they have a lower attention span. It appeals to the secondary audience because the movie I will be reviewing in the episode is a remake of an older film, that people of an older demographic might enjoy therefore they could possibly have interest in the new one. Gender Horror films appeal to both males and females because horror movies present males and females as protagonists so people can relate with both. The films cast consists of male and female protagonists and antagonists so people can relate to the characters, meaning they might have an interest in a podcast reviewing the movie. Psychographic The primary audience is belongers because horror movies are popular so it’s an easy thing to relate with. Whereas, the secondary audience is achievers because you can listen to podcasts while being productive. The content that appeals to the primary audience is the fact that it’s a podcast on horror movies, both horror movies and podcasts are very popular nowadays therefore belongers will want to fit in by being up to date on popular things. It appeals to the secondary audience because of the format of a podcast is convenient and can be listened to while on the go. Social Status The primary social status this appeals to is middle class and working class because that’s my background so the audience might have similar opinions to me. Also, the podcast is going on platforms where it’s free so it’s affordable to people of these background. My podcasts secondary audience would be people who come from an upper class background as they could still enjoy it but just not as much as working class or middle class people. The content to appeal to the primary audience is how affordable and convenient the podcast is to listen to. It also appeals to the primary audience because we have the same social status, therefore I might use similar language and have similar opinions on the movie. The podcast appeals to the secondary audience because of the convenience although it isn’t as much of a problem as it is for working class and middle class people.
