A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Mind Map
3 documentary
ideas
A Loch Ness Monster Documentary
1. The primary age of my documentaries audience
would be 19+, as a documentary about The Loch
Ness Monster appeals to older audiences
because it’s educational and historical. The
documentaries secondary age would be 10-18,
because dinosaurs can appeal to younger
audience due to interest founded from films like
“Jurassic Park”.
2. The documentary would consist of me talking
about The Loch Ness Monster and the history of
aquatic dinosaurs in Scotland.
3. The genre of my documentary would be
historical, so I would handle it in a professional
and serious manner.
4. The kit I’d use in my documentary would be: a
camera to record myself speaking and to get
good transitionary shots, a tripod to avoid a
shaky video, a microphone to get a clear
recording of me speaking and a computer to
overlay clips into the video and edit.
5. The documentary will be approximately 25
minutes in length to convey the information
about the topic adequately.
6. I would use the studio in college to record
narration and I would get the train to a place
with a lot of water when using a camera to be in
the closest environment to what I’m discussing.
7. The primary psychographic for my product is
achievers because it’s going to be educational
and therefore worthwhile to watch. My
secondary psychographic is belongers as
conspiracies and dinosaurs are both rather
popular nowadays, and are therefore something
to discuss with other people.
8. My product appeals to both genders equally as
it’s educational and learning isn’t specific to
either gender.
A Horror Movie Documentary
1. The primary age of my documentaries audience would be 15-25,
because statistically at that age range you like to be scared more
and to chase adrenaline rushes so you’d be more likely to enjoy a
horror documentary.
2. The documentary would be about horror movies and how they
were made. I’d also make a comparison between older and modern
horror movies to show how the genres evolved over time.
3. The genre of my documentary would be horror, therefore I would
handle it somewhat seriously as horror can be funny on occasion if
done poorly.
4. The kit that I would use in my documentary would be: a Tascam
and a microphone to record myself speaking, a computer to edit all
the narration and clips together and finally, a camera and tripod to
record myself steadily.
5. The documentary will last approximately 25 minutes so I have
enough time to discuss all my research about the topic
6. The location I’d use would be the studio in college as I don’t need a
background but if I did, I could just use the green screen.
7. The primary psychographic that my documentary appeals to is
achievers, because this documentary is going to be educational and
is therefore worthwhile as you'll gain something from it. The
secondary psychographic that my documentary would appeal to is
emulators, as they would want to do the same things as achievers
which means they'd watch the same stuff.
8. Horror movies give women and men leading roles so either gender
can watch it as the genres inclusive to both.
A Conspiracy Theory Documentary
1. The age of my audience would be 18+ as
we would mainly discuss dark theories
about death and other things.
2. The documentary would be about
conspiracy theories, so I would interview
my friends and ask if/why they believe in
them.
3. The genre of my documentary would be a
thriller, because of the tone I would
interview people in and the eerie music I
would use in the background.
4. The kit I would use in my documentary
would be: a camera, microphone and a
tripod to record my friends clearly and
steadily while they're being interviewed
and a computer to edit my final product
together.
5. This documentary will be approximately
20 minutes in length, because I would
want the guests to have plenty of time to
give in depth opinions.
6. The location I would use is the studio in
college because I would just be
interviewing my friends which wouldn’t
require an exciting setting.
7. My products primary psychographic is
belongers, as you can learn about
conspiracies theories and can find people
with the same beliefs as you. The
secondary psychographic is belongers
because conspiracy theories are a good
conversation starter and are popular
nowadays.
8. This product appeals to both genders
because it’s about opinions on neutral
subjects like the moon landing for
example.
3. Mind Map
The Loch Ness
Monster
Documentary
To address the primary age range
of my audience I will make my
product as educational as
possible by including facts about
aquatic dinosaurs and Nessie.
Also, I’ll make it full of pictures
and I’ll pace it well to appeal to
the secondary audience.
The kit I’d use in my
documentary would be: a
camera to record myself
speaking and to get good
transitionary shots, a tripod to
avoid a shaky video, a
microphone to get a clear
recording of me speaking and a
computer to overlay clips into
the video and edit.
My product will be
approximately 25 minutes
long, because I need
enough time to discuss
the topic and to interview
people.
The name of the
documentary will be “The
Loch Ness Monster and the
history of aquatic dinosaurs
in Scotland” because it’s
straight to the point of what
the documentary is about.
In the documentary I will discuss the
origins of The Loch Ness Monster and other
water-based dinosaurs that have been
prominent in Scotland in the past. I will
achieve this by interviewing people about
their thoughts on The Loch Ness Monster
and narrating about dinosaurs in a coastal
location to fit with the topic.
To help my product appeal to the
primary psychographic, I will
make it as educational as
possible by discussing how the
rumor of Nessie came to be. To
appeal to my products secondary
psychographic, I will discuss the
most well-known dinosaurs so
it’s something popular to talk
about with friends.
The locations that I’d film in
would be a coastal town like:
Scarborough, Saltburn and
Whitby for the parts where I
give facts and to film
transition shots. The
narration played over the
footage and interviews will be
filmed in the studio at college.
My product appeals to all genders
equally by being educational and full of
facts.
5. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• The black and white colour scheme is prominent in the more mythical
portrayals of The Loch Ness Monster which is because of old grainy cameras.
The colour blue is plastered all over the mood board due to the documentary
being about aquatic dinosaurs.
• The three overarching image styles are that of: real life photography,
illustration and digitally created concept art.
• The images tones are professional, because its mostly images from interviews
or illustrations of The Loch Ness Monster.
• The mood of the images is cold because of the colour pallet and locations.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• I will be sure to frame and conduct the interviews professionally like the
people on the mood board have. I will use similar types of shots; for example,
establishing shots of water and greenery and mid shots while interviewing
people and talking to the camera.
6. Informal Proposal
Current Idea
Concept My product is going to be a documentary about The Loch Ness Monster and other aquatic dinosaurs from Scotland. I
will interview people and ask them if they believe The Loch Ness Monster exists; also, I will discuss the history of
aquatic dinosaurs and The Loch Ness Monster possibly with a timeline.
Type of products you
would make
• Documentary; this will be my main focus.
• I will make the poster last as it’s the easiest one to create. The reason I’m making a poster is that with
documentaries they tend to have some sort of poster for advertising purposes. To make the poster I’d use
photoshop to design it and then I’d use footage I recorded personally and images from the internet.
• The DVD Front Cover will be the second product I make as it’s pretty essential to the product as a whole to have
one main image linked to it. To create the front cover I’d use photoshop and images I took as well as photos from
the internet.
What you will need to
make them
To make the poster and front cover, I will need access to Photoshop so I can edit the images together in the styles
common to posters and front covers; also, I have practice with Photoshop so I know how to use it reliably. The contents
of the poster and front cover will be a mix of images that I’ve taken while filming and have found on google. To make
the documentary, I will use Premiere Pro because I have experience with it due to making podcasts and animations on
it. The footage I will edit will be recorded in the studio at college and in a coastal location to convey Loch Ness without
going there as its too far away.
Audience The primary age range of my documentary would be 19+ because documentaries are educational; therefore, it can
appeal to people of an older audience. The secondary age range of my documentary would be 10-18 due to films like
“Jurassic Park” which create curiosity in younger audiences.
My products primary gender demographic is both genders as educational products appeal to both genders equally as
anyone can want to learn.
The primary psychographic my product appeals to is achievers because the documentary will be educational and
therefore worth inducting your time into. My products secondary psychographic is belongers, because conspiracy
theories like The Loch Ness Monster get worldwide coverage due to people speculating if it’s real or not.
My products primary geodemographic would be the United Kingdom/Scotland as the monster allegedly lives in Loch
Ness which is a lake in Scotland. The secondary geodemographic would be the United States of America as conspiracies
are immensely popular there due to YouTubers like “Shane Dawson” who helped the theories reach new levels of
7. Choices
Discounted ideas Reasons for not choosing this
project
A Horror Movie Documentary
I didn’t choose this product, because during
this course I’ve made two horror movie
products so I wanted to do something
different. Also, using footage from horror
films while avoiding copyright would be a
difficult thing to do.
A Conspiracy Theory Documentary
The reason I chose not to do this idea is
because a podcast full of different peoples
opinions and interviews would take a long
time to film. Also, conspiracy theories as a
whole are a broad spectrum compared to
one singular theory like The Loch Ness
Monster.
