- The majority of the target audience is male aged 16-19 who prefer images featuring multiple special effects over a single effect.
- Popular special effects included lightning, star fields, and fire. Wallpaper and poster sized images were preferred over other sizes.
- While most audience members did not have a preference on the number of images or using a theme, there was some interest in both 3 images and a superhero theme.
- Specific superhero characters like Aquaman, Bane, Iron Man, Thor, and Loki that could appeal to parts of the audience were identified.

2. Existing ProductThe prop and the
costume indicate
that this man is a
basket ball player
The effect makes
the basket ball
player looks like he’s
breaking apart
For post production
they might of cut the
background out
maybe because the
effect wont work with
the background still on
or the effect just looks
better with a white
background
The colours of his
basket ball kit makes
him stand out in the
background
People may want to
buy this if they’re avid
basket ball fan or they
really like the basket
ball player. They could
also want this because
it looks dramatic
The person in the
image is male so
that the male
audience will have a
inspiring figure to
look at while
heterosexual
females will like him
because he is male
The person wears red
to stand out because
red is a stand out
colour
The image has been shot at this
angle to make the image an
action shot so it is more
interesting to look at
Lots of shots have been taken to
get the body positioning of the
basket ball player .
3. Existing Product They used the lens
flair to make it look
like there's a sun
shining through the
space clouds
Its seem that like that
they made the space
clouds using the cloud
effect then they
coloured it in and
change the opacity so
that they could show of
the background as well
It draws people in
because it’s a very
pretty picture plus
I'm sure people who
are interested in
science will buy this
They could of got the
background from
Google images
They used very
bluey colours for the
space clouds so that
the lens flair could
be more visible
The location of this
image is hard to tell
but if I had to guess I
think could be in space
with all the stars in the
background
The male audience
could like this image
because its looks
very sci-fi and the
female audience
could like this
because the star
field looks pretty.
The blue colours makes
the image luminescence
and makes it stand out
from the background
4. Existing ProductThe angle give
some depth
The colours used
seems to make the
image look like its
night time
The location looks to be
in a graveyard since all
the buildings have
crosses on them plus
they look pretty old
Lighting effects
have been used
to make the
image appear to
be moon lit.
In post production
this image could have
been taken in the day
because of the big
light thing in the
middle but when they
added all the effect on
the image looks like it
could be at night or its
really stormy
The lightening effect is
striking and looks
realistic. It draws your
attention because it’s
dramatic . It makes
people acknowledge
it’s existence so they
may want to buy it.
The lightning itself is a powerful
entity which can cause death
and destruction which will
appeal to some people because
it shows the power of nature
The combination of the graveyard,
the moon light and the lightening
makes the image look spooky.
This will appeal to the audience as
they may like horror scenes.
5. Existing ProductThey used the half
tone effect to create
the lines in side the
sun and sea to give
the image a retro
look to it
This picture used the
outer glow effect to
make it look very
neon probably
referencing old 80s
TV show Miami Vice
with it’s palm tree
and bright colours
The composition
makes this look very
stylistic because of
how they made the
palm tree angular
and in the centre of
the images
People may want to
buy this because it
looks very 80s with its
colours and lighting
It appeals to both
genders because it
doesn’t target a
specific gender. It is
not stereotypically
male or female, it is
neutral.The image is
interesting to look at
and grabs attention
which may make
people want to buy
it.
This image could make
people want to go on
holiday because it looks
like a logo for a bar in a
tropical country
According to colour therapy the
colours blue, orange and pink
convey different meanings. Blue
means cool and calming, orange
means optimism, yellow means
creativity and joy.
6. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– They are all made using Photoshop
– They use solid background colours for the subjects,
colours and objects to stand out
– The main image is always in the middle of the frame
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
– I will make these images using Photoshop
– The main picture of my product will be in the center
of the image
8. Audience research
• Observation: 70% of my audience is male while 30% of my audience is female
• What this says about my audience: There are more male males in my audience then there are
female
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make most of my images slightly gear towards
my male audience by using actiony and cool special effects such as the fire effect, lightning effect,
smoke and neon lights while some of my images will appeal to the female audience by using pretty
special effects such as the star field, TV interlaced lines, rainbows and dispersion special effect
9. Audience research
• Observation: 90% of my audience are aged around 16-19 while 10% are over the
age of 20
• What this says about my audience: The vast majority of my audience are within
the age range of 16-19 while only one of my audience are over 20
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My images will be modern and
appeal to teens by using images that they would know such as using famous movie
or video game characters or popular celebrities, locations, devises, ect.
10. Audience research
• Observation: 60% voted for me to use multiple effects while 40% voted for 1
special effect
• What this says about my audience: most of my audience are interested in seeing
multiple however some wanted me only use 1 special effect
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will use a make multiple images
with each with its own special effect such as one image will have a fire special
effect while another image will have a lightning effect
11. Audience research
• Observation: The lightning and star field effect both have 40% while fire and dispersion splatter
effect both have 10%
• What this says about my audience: it seems that the lightning and star field effect are both pretty
popular while the fire and the dispersion splatter effect aren't. (if only one of them won...)
• How will your product appeal to this audience: sadly I will have to choose which one I do first
between the lighting effect and the star field effect. Ill disappoint a large portion if I chose either
one them so I will try to think of a way to maybe combine the two. If it doesn't work out I will be
force to have to choose one of them
12. Audience research
• Observation: 50% of the audience wants wallpaper sized images, 40% of the audience wants poster
sized images, 10% don't mind what size while none of the audience want a frame size image
• What this says about my audience: many of them want wallpaper sized images while a goo chunk of
people want poster sized images. There are those who don’t mind either however nobody want
framed size images
• How will your product appeal to this audience: lets say I made 10 images, 6 of them will be
wallpaper sized while 4 of them will be poster size. Since nobody wants the frame size images I
don't have to worry about that.
13. Audience research
• Observation: both just 3 and don’t mind options both have 40% while 20% of the audience wants
more then 3
• What this says about my audience: both just 3 and don’t mind options are tied while more then 3
have a smaller number of votes (ironic, right?)
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I think I have to go with the just 3 option since the
don't mind option is basically means that they just don’t mind which one I’ll do so for my FMP my
goal will be to make 3 images however depending on the time I might try to make more just to
appeal to the people who voted for more then 3 option
14. Audience research
• Observation: 50% of the audience of the audience said that they don’t mind which one I pick , 40%
of the audience said yes, 10% of the audience said no
• What this says about my audience: Most of the audience said that they don’t mind which one I pick
while some wanted it to be have a theme but some don’t
• How will your product appeal to this audience: since the don't mind option basically means that
they just don’t mind which one I’ll do I think it might be best if I do the theme option since it was
the 2nd most voted option. If I do the theme option I think the best theme to do is the superhero
theme since would fit with the special effects I'm doing. Some will be from movies, some will be
from the comics, some will be from TV shows.

22. Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
• I got the images from the internet by searching for Photoshop special effect apart from the last one. I search 80’s Photoshop effect that.
• Strengths:
• Variety of images
• Helps me to see the different types of techniques
• Weaknesses
• The images didn’t have a lot in common for the research analysis
• I feel I didn’t do enough analysis on the existing products
– Questionnaires
• We used SurveyMonkey to make our questionnaires then we sent the links to Josh so that he could upload them to Blackboard for us
• Strengths:
• Easy to make using the SurveyMonkey
• You can send your questionnaires to a lot of people using emails
• Its easier to do questionnaires online
• Its easy to access the questionnaires if you got internet
• Weaknesses
• Its easy to ignore the emails
• People might not answer it truthfully
• You cant answer the questionnaire without the internet
– Interviews
– I only had 2 interviews and the question asked were good but in the end I’m don’t think my product will be entirely based on superheroes. The interview
wasn’t very useful in the end
– Strengths:
– I knew the people who did my interview
– Its lest likely that they would answer my question inappropriately
– Weaknesses:
– It was hard writing down the summarys
23. Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
I got 100% responses for my survey because it was sent out by my tutor since students were expected to
complete it. The responses I got were useful and will help me design my products. Some of the
responses were what I expected however others responses were not.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
When we made the survey from SurveyMonkey we sent the URLs to Josh and he put all our surveys on
blackboard for all of us to do.
– Strengths:
I got answers that will help my final product
I got my audience personal opinions
Everyone in my class has answered my survey
– Weaknesses:
I wish I got more people doing my quiz
I got 2 draws!!!
I don’t know if they answered the questions truthfully
