Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. Graphic Design Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
– Visually pleasing
– Easy to use
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
– Could give of a bad vibe
– Gives to little information
4. Graphic Design Production
The similarities between these
pieces are that they look old and
the differneces are that one is a
cartoon and one is a real picture
for an ad at the time.
5. The strengths are that it looks colourful and old,
it’s weaknesses are that it is slightly jagged
because I tried to use the rubber to make the
edges smoother and I would change this by using
the wand to edit out the colour. All that I used to
create this piece is copy and paste and colouring
and some very shady rubbing out.
6. Radio Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
– You get a more down to Earth human feel to it
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
– Difficult to use software
– Can lose files if not saved correctly
8. Radio Production
• The strengths: gives more information
• Usually get them on radio or on spotify
• The weaknesses : Some people just don’t pay
any attention to the radio
• It could be confusing if no info is given.
• Changes I would make: don’t do it on premier
• Software used: Premier it is confusing AF.
10. Video Game Production
• Advantages of working in this medium
• Being able to see the product and it is easier to
edit
• Disadvantages of working in this medium
• Harder to use and turns out as if it is not very
sleek.
11. Video Game Production
The similarities between the two are
the layout and the animation however
the main dissimilarities are that
instead of barrels there are Pepsi logos
and instead of saving the woman at
the top I made it into a coke can and it
is like a pipe which the character
travels to the next stage.
12. The strengths of this piece is the ending where
the can is kind of like a pipe which the character
travels through the other strength is the
animation, however the weaknesses are only the
moving of the Pepsi logos. I would try and fix this
by turning the Pepsi logo each time it moves.
All we used is Photoshop and it’s animation
software
13. Comparison
• Which product do you believe advertises the
product the best? Why?
• I think the poster type advert was the best at
getting the point across because it actually
shows you a message and a someone to
promote it.
• Which of your products is the most
professional? Why?
• Either the poster or the Radio ad because I
put a bit more thought into the others and for
the advergame I only used ideas from old
retro games.
