This document compares the common and different symptoms of tuberculosis (TB) and AIDS. Both can cause fever, weight loss, and cough. TB commonly causes night sweats, hemoptysis, and chest pain while AIDS commonly causes diarrhea, fungal infections, and lymphoma. A tuberculin test may be negative in AIDS patients even if they have TB. TB can accelerate the progression of AIDS by increasing viral load. The differential diagnosis of pulmonary TB is difficult in AIDS patients.
