Pledges of Aqaba: Biography of Prophet Muhammad Amna Kashif
The document summarizes the Pledges of Aqaba, where Muslims from Yathrib (later known as Medina) pledged to accept and protect Prophet Muhammad. The First Pledge involved 6 men accepting Islam after being invited by the Prophet. The Second Pledge, a year later, involved 75 leaders who pledged to follow the teachings of Islam and defend the Prophet from the persecutions of the Quraish tribe. This led to the Hijrah or migration of the Prophet and his followers from Mecca to Medina, allowing Islam to spread more freely.
The document discusses several concepts of the unseen according to the Quran. It describes how belief in the unseen is a central tenet and that only Allah knows the unseen. It discusses angels like Gabriel and Michael, unseen creatures like jinn, the human spirit, death, interrogation after death, and the rewards and punishments of heaven and hell. The conclusion emphasizes how belief in the unseen strengthens faith and is a test from Allah.
The document discusses the concepts of ijtihad (independent reasoning) and taqlid (following the rulings of qualified scholars) in Islamic jurisprudence. It provides definitions and conditions for ijtihad, as well as when taqlid is permitted. The views of several prominent Islamic scholars on these topics are presented, including that ijtihad requires in-depth knowledge and taqlid is acceptable for common people or when one cannot derive a ruling independently. The document aims to clarify the principles of these legal methodologies in the Islamic tradition.
The Battle of Yarmouk in 636 AD was a major six-day battle between the Arab forces of the Rashidun Caliphate and the Byzantine Empire near the Yarmouk River. The Byzantine army outnumbered the Muslim forces but Khalid bin Walid reorganized the Muslim army into infantry and cavalry regiments. After several days of intense fighting where both sides suffered heavy casualties, Khalid launched a decisive cavalry attack that broke through a gap in the Byzantine lines, resulting in a complete Muslim victory that ended Byzantine rule in Syria.
The document summarizes the events leading up to and surrounding the Tabuk expedition ordered by the Prophet Muhammad in 9 AH. It describes the conflicts with Roman forces that prompted the expedition, the preparations made by both Muslims and their opponents, and the outcome when the Muslim army arrived at Tabuk to find the Roman forces had withdrawn. The expedition demonstrated the strength and resolve of the growing Muslim community and helped extend its territorial control and influence.

There was a mutual defense treaty between Muslims and nearby Jews in Madinah. The Jews betrayed the treaty by planning to kill the Prophet and allying with enemies including the Quraysh tribe and Ghatafan tribe, amassing an army of 10,000 to fight the Muslims. In response, upon the suggestion of Salman Farsi, the Muslims dug a trench to defend Madinah. When the enemy forces arrived and saw the trench, which was an unfamiliar defense tactic, they were shocked. After over 20 days of siege involving arrow fights and challenges between warriors, the failure to overcome the trench defense marked the beginning of Muhammad's growing political strength in Madinah.

They excelled in architecture, arts, and sciences and built important structures like the Al-Azhar mosque and university. However, their power declined and in 1171 they lost control of Egypt to the Ayyubids led by Saladin. The Ayyubid dynasty then fell to the Mamluks in 1259. The Mamluks successfully defended Egypt from the Mongol threat and established a decentralized court system based on the four Sunni schools of jurisprudence.
Nifaq refers to hypocrisy in Islam. There are two types - nifaq in belief, where one outwardly claims to be Muslim but does not truly believe, and nifaq in actions, where one believes but does not practice properly due to weaknesses. The document lists many actions that indicate nifaq, such as ridiculing prayers and the Quran, abandoning faith in hardship, discouraging jihad, and prioritizing relations with non-Muslims over other Muslims. A munafiq aims to secretly damage Islam from within, while a sinner commits sins out of ignorance but still believes and does repent.
This document provides an overview of the life and teachings of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (164-241 H). It describes his upbringing, education, teachers, and career as a hadith scholar. For each topic, it summarizes Imam Ahmad's view and principles, which focused on adhering strictly to the Quran and hadith without speculative reasoning or arguments.
The document describes a decisive battle between Muslim forces led by Caliph Omar and the Persians led by Yazdajred at the mountainous city of Nahawand. Omar gathered 30,000 fighters under experienced commanders to engage the 150,000-strong Persian force fortified in Nahawand. After failed attempts to breach the defenses, the Muslims prevailed in a key victory that marked the fall of the Sasanian Persian Empire and the continuation of Muslim conquests across Persia and other lands.
The rise and fall of the Islamic Caliphate from its beginnings to its end can be summarized as follows:
1) The first Caliphate, the Rashidun Caliphate, was established after the death of the Prophet Muhammad and spanned from 632-661 CE under the leadership of the first four caliphs. It expanded Muslim rule across the Middle East and North Africa.
