3. Why Solar Photovoltaic..??
• The 89 petawatts (89 x 10 ^15) radiation of THE SUN reaching on the Earth surface plentiful
almost 6000 times more than 15 terawatts(15 x 10 ^12) of average electric power consumed by
humans Globally/Day.
• Solar Power has the highest power density (global mean of 170 W/m^2) among renewable
energies.
• PV installation can operate for many years with little maintenance.
• Solar electric generation is economically superior where grid connection or fuel transport is
difficult, costly or impossible.
• Long-standing examples include satellites, island communities, remote locations and ocean
vessels
4. Solar Photovoltaic & Photovoltaic effect
• Solar Photovoltaic (PV) is the technology of Solar cells for energy by converting Solar energy
(sunlight, including UV rays) directly into electricity by Photovoltaic effect.
• It refers to photons of light knocking electrons into a higher state of energy to create electricity.
5. Working of Solar Photovoltaic Cell
• When solar panels are placed in the sunlight , photons will strike the surface and emits
electrons.
• As a result electron hole pair is created in the solar cell.
• When external circuit is connected to the solar cell, electrons flow in the circuit and the
current is generated.

7. 1 KW Solar Photovoltaic System
• This 1 kilowatt system would make 1 kilowatt-hour of electricity for every hour it is in the
sun.
• In North Gujarat we have an average of 6.5 good sun hours every day (more in the summer
when the days are longer, less in the winter when the days are shorter).
• Remember weather data, and any losses for inefficiencies, wiring, inverter losses affect to the
Efficiency of the PV System around 20-35 % .
• A Photovoltaic Panel is perform at about 11-15 % efficiency.
• The Area required for the 1KW PV System is ~7 m2.
