This document discusses tidal energy and the different technologies used to harness it. There are two main types - tidal range technologies which use barriers like dams to capture the difference between high and low tides, and tidal stream technologies which function more like underwater wind turbines in tidal currents. The largest tidal barrage currently is the Sihwa Dam in South Korea. Tidal energy has advantages of being predictable, renewable and having a long lifespan, though construction costs are high and locations are limited. The conclusion is that tidal energy has great potential as a renewable resource.
