This document discusses the three main types of network cables: fiber optic cable, twisted pair cable, and coaxial cable. Fiber optic cable transmits messages modulated onto light waves through bundles of glass threads. It has a complicated design involving single-mode or multi-mode configurations of the core. Twisted pair cable is ordinary copper wire connecting homes and businesses to telephone companies. The wires are twisted to reduce crosstalk. Coaxial cable carries data through a central conductor surrounded by insulating layers and shielding to prevent signal loss and reduce electromagnetic interference.
