There are seven key information processes: collecting, organising, analysing, storing and retrieving, processing, transmitting and receiving, and displaying. These processes are used together to create computer-based systems that meet the needs of individuals or groups. The processes involve defining required data sources, gathering data, representing data format, interpreting data into information, saving data and information for later use, manipulating data into a suitable form, sending and receiving data and information within and beyond systems, and deciding information display forms.
