Beyond The Things They Carried
Beyond the Things They Carried
The Vietnam War began in 1954, consisting of many extensive, horrific years of battle that seemed
to create more harm to the United States and its soldiers rather than to North Vietnam. The 500,000
United States military personnel returned home with the loss of the war and the loss of their
friends on their minds. Although the physical and emotional experiences that the men went through
is unfathomable, Tim O Brien does a great job portraying what life as a soldier was truly like in the
Vietnam War. In the book The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien depicts the unstable emotional
and psychological condition of the American soldiers through the symbolism of their belongings
and personal anecdotes from their lives. The book opens with Tim O Brien listing items that the
soldiers needed to carry with them for life in Vietnam, such as a P 38 can opener, mosquito
repellent, C rations, dog tags, and many more necessities, weighing around twelve to eighteen
pounds in total. Many men also had the added weight of weapons needed for combat, which then
added another five to twenty six pounds depending on what weapon and the amount of ammunition
necessary. On average, most men carried around thirty pounds, but the load was much higher when
considering the emotional and psychological weight put on their shoulders from the impact of
these items. Early on in the book Tim O Brien states, They carried all they could bear, and then
some, including a silent

The Ability To Test Welds Has Progressed Rapidly Over The
The ability to test welds has progressed rapidly over the years. After the discovery of the short
pulsed electric arc in 1800 by Humphry Davy[3][4] and the continuous electric arc by Vasily
Petrov in 1802, there was little development in electrical welding until 1881.Around that time
there was little to be done as far as the rigidity of inspection goes. As long as man has been on
earth, we have been visually testing things to see if it passes our persona critique of standard
perfection. With weld quality assurance Visual Testing (VT) is where it welding
inspection all starts.
Before the first welding arc is struck, materials should be examined to see if they meet

Floyd Firestone. With the general principle of my device consists of sending high frequency
vibrations into the part to be inspected, ultrasonic testing is applied to many fields of metallurgy
withing many occupations. Ultrasonic testing becomes less suitable when determining porosity
in welds, because round gas pores respond as a series of single point reflectors to ultrasonic tests.
UT inspection system consists of several functional units, such as the pulser/receiver, transducer,
and display device. How Ultrasonic Testing (UT) works is by having an ultrasound transducer
connected to a diagnostic machine is passed over the object being inspected. The pulser/receiver
is an electronic device that produces high voltage electrical pulses, while the transducer, which is
driven by the pulser generates high frequency ultrasonic energy. Separated by test object is a
couplant. As sound is introduced, it spreads through the materials in the form of sound waves.
When there is a discontinuity (such as a crack) in the wave path, part of the energy will be
reflected back from the flaw surface. With a few advantages ranging from: High penetrating power,
which allows the detection of flaws deep in the part, great accuracy, non hazardous operation,
portability, and immediate results. A few advantages of UT are :
It is sensitive to both surface and subsurface discontinuities.
The depth of penetration for flaw detection or measurement is superior to other NDT methods.

1.)Simkovic, Michael. (Fall 2015). The Knowledge Tax. The University of Chicago Law Review.
Vol. 82.4. 1981 2043.
In the article entitled the Knowledge Tax , the author looks at why is Higher Education facing a
higher rate of taxes, and why is the tax pool itself so large compared to other taxable entities. An
example used in the text is that why would a person who graduates from college, and then decides
to go on medical school, faces a higher tax rate with less lucrative tax loopholes than someone who
decides to run an apartment complex, citing the more relaxed tax laws in property ownership than
education. The author also looks at how much can be deducted on tax forms via capital gains for

In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, members of both parties were in support of how
President Bush handled the situation as well as his response thereafter. But after the clean up
was over, and the tears shed dried, another issue has arisen that creates an interesting decision
process. What is a terror threat has now become an issue that Washington has dealt with thru the
remaining seven years of the Bush administration and into the current seven years of the Obama
administration. The article looks at how those who are perceived as less tolerant are more likely
to believe in greater threats of terrorism than those who are tolerant. In an experiment that was
done in the article, there was an almost pure one hundred percent link between people who had
terrorism fears and support of anti terrorism policies. Essentially this was the people who
identified as members of the GOP. The Democrat side of the aisle was considered a bit more
skewed as there were people who had little terrorism fears yet supported anti terrorism

We Are A Catholic Heritage By Donald Dayton And American...
This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and
fundamentalism means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued
with them both and their very presence in many of our modern day congregations, as well as the
secular parts of our society. After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the
attributes that have been emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage
by Donald Dayton and American Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting
Grace. We are a church transformed by grace, connected through relationships and committed to
service is their mission statement and as is everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a
large campus with several buildings surrounding the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can
be accessed with one of their many golf carts. I must say, as someone who works with youth, I
was impressed as to their commitment to a separate building for kids, especially those in middle
school and high school. At a time when autonomy is so important for a young person, (and
budgets are limited), having their own space is quite impressive. The first thing you notice upon
entering the stadium styled sanctuary, is the focus on the stage; very theatrical. To the left of the
stage, there is a large drop down screen for people to follow along with the lyrics when the singing
has begun. Hanging behind the band on the main stage, is a bohemian or

The Creation Of A Utopian Civilization Essay
In an imperfect world such as ours, the idea of a utopia capable of satisfying all needs and
desires has been attempted to be made reality time and time again. However, few have succeeded
because it is difficult if not impossible to accommodate a large population of people with varying
interests. The key to maintaining a utopian civilization is ensuring that all basic needs are met in
order to avoid the overthrow of the established government regulation activity. The creation of
Bentopia is centered around the goal to make the most efficient society possible while still allowing
citizens the freedom to choose. As the architectural committee, we strived to develop both public
and personal spaces that optimize the use of space in a non wasteful manner, while also keeping in
mind the climate, geographical location of our city, and environmental impact our structures have.
The way we have organized houses, shopping malls, governmental and corporate buildings within
our utopia is meant to maximize resources we have on hand through the division of the city into
three districts. The most important considerations when creating a layout fit for a utopia fifty years
into the future is offering a comfortable, sustainable lifestyle while still retaining core values of free
will and equality. The practical distribution of material goods should not jeopardize basic rights that
are standard within an ideal society. When first approaching the dilemma on how to allot land, the

Michael Corlee Character Traits
Both Vito and Michael Corleone are apt Machiavellian princes. The juxtaposition of their stories
highlights different approaches a prince can have. What Machiavelli calls prowess aptly
describes how Vito comes to power, he rises through the ranks based on his talents. Michael
emerges due to fortune , being the youngest son he inherits the role by chance. In Cuba, bad
fortune contributes to the botched assassination attempt on Roth. Michael s inability to adapt to
conditions he does not control leads to Roth escaping. Conversely , as an immigrant who came to
America with nothing Vito is a product of bad fortune from the start. This seemed to make him
more adaptable to situations beyond his control. Michael is a son of America and fortune, thus he
did not have to learn how to adapt, this reflects in his leadership. Michael is trapped in a

Michael utilizes fear by ruling both of his families with an iron fist, as well as seeking to
obliterate all of his enemies. His ruthless actions distance him from is associates, alienates him

to remain loyal, but perhaps love and appreciation would have. Essentially his principality is
crumbling. However, Vito consolidates power through a combination of fear and love. By
killing Fanucci he becomes feared but also inspires love because he rid the neighborhood of a
sort of tyrant. Machiavelli sees little value in love or the loyalty it might incur from his people.
Instead, he feels that it is vital for rulers to make people aware of his ultimate power. When

Gun, Hunting, And Personal Defense
Putting rounds down range every time you pull the trigger on your firearm is very important,
whether for target shooting, hunting, or personal defense. Equally important to putting rounds
down range is the proper maintenance of your firearm. There are many types of firearms in today s
world with some that are more complicated than others in their operation and maintenance. One of
the easier firearms to maintain is the Armalite Rifle, Model 15, otherwise known as the AR 15. The
basic disassembly, or field striping, of the AR 15, is universal regardless of who the manufacture
is or how the gas system is set up. You will only need a clear work surface, a beach towel or similar
item, and a number 2 punch to complete the disassembly process.... Show more content on

Place your towel flat on your work surface before proceeding (this is to help prevent oil, grease,
powder residue, and your firearm from damaging the work surface). The first step in
disassembly after making the weapon clear and safe is to separate the upper receiver group from
the lower receiver group. Locate the takedown pin, which is located just above the safety, and
the pivot pin, which is located at the front of the lower receiver. With your number 2 punch
depress the takedown pin from the left side. You should feel a noticeable click when the
takedown pin overcomes the force of the takedown pin detent. Repeat for the pivot pin, being
careful not to push the pin all the way through the receiver. The takedown pin and pivot pins
should now be partially extended on the right side of the lower receiver. Lay the firearm on its
left side so it lies flat on your work surface. Grasp the takedown pin from the right side and pull
till it fully extends out the right side of the receiver. Again, you should feel a noticeable click
when the detent pin engages the takedown pin at the fully extended position. Now repeat by
grasping and pulling the pivot pin till it fully extends out the right side of the receiver. Next,
while holding the lower receiver group, grasp the upper receiver group and slide it clear of the
lower receiver group. At this point the lower receiver group disassembly is complete, so sit it to
one side

Water and Fire Compare and Contrast
Water and Fire Water and fire, two very different elements. But, What really makes these two
elements different? Fire burns. It is used to hurt and to kill, but it can also be used for heat and
for light. Water soothes. It is used to revive people who are sick and to help to cool off in a hot
summer day, but it can it be used for torture and to drown living things. In spite of all of their
differences they do have three things in common Oxygen, they both kill, and they are both

Why Santa Claus Is Good For Developing Children s Creativity
Are you believing in Santa Claus? Have you asked this question to someone? Children would say
Yes, but adults would say No. This is because children believe that Santa Claus gives them a lot of
gifts on Christmas day, but adults know the gifts are given by their parents. Christmas is the most
popular holiday all over the world, and most families get together and spend time on dinner in the
United States. Children enjoy everything such as Santa Clausand reindeer as reality, but adults just
have fun with an atmosphere of the event through Christmassongs and illuminations. What makes
the difference between them? The answer is believing in Santa Claus or not. However, even
though adults know the man is not real, all people should believe in Santa Claus. Believing in
Santa Claus gives everyone benefits such as developing children s creativity and more enjoyment of
Christmas for adults.
Belief in Santa Claus is good for developing children s creativity. According to Mertens, the author
says that As children s brains develop, so do their reasoning skills and imaginations. Children
think of Santa Claus s figure, how he comes to their house, and when he leaves gifts. They also
think about that logically. For example, if there is no chimney, a child could imagine that Santa
Claus enters his or her house from a window. These processes can help children have visions of
what they think. Children exhibit a form of magical thinking by about 18 months, when they begin
to create

Maryland Police Department Essay
Maryland one of greatest states on the eastern coast of the United States is currently
experiencing a high demand for police officers. This is especially true in Baltimore one of the
largest cities in the state of Maryland and continues to grow. Police officers and law enforcement
professionals have to be thoroughly equipped to handle the stress of law enforcement work on a
day to day basis. As a result, the state of Maryland has put into place high standards for those
interested in working in law enforcement.
Like other states, Maryland requires that those interested in working in law enforcement go
through a state accredited police academy. However, unlike other states, applicants are not
required to go through an agency first before enrolling in a police academy. The state of Maryland
does have what can be referred to as a commission that oversees and enacts standards that applicants
must meet before becoming police officers.
Some basic requirements that applicants must possess are, they must be at least 21 years of age or
older, they must be a U.S. citizen, and they must have a high school diploma or the equivalent of a
high school diploma. Candidates are also required to take certain exams beginning with a written
exam that assesses verbal skills, reading, reporting and writing skills. These exams are similar to

The Late 17th and 18th century was a time of many changes. With the new era becoming the Age of

philosophers in the 17th century, the period began to be known as The Age of Enlightenment.

Adult Gaudy
I just got done reading this passage that talks about a couple that wants to get divorced. During
the passage the couple get into an argument about being grown up. The woman named Luci says
No worries I believe we re both adults here and the man named Lon responds with Believe what
you want that right there shows that this couple does not like agreeing with each other and that
Lon is sort of childish because of his sarcastic response. So they talk and argue with each other for
a couple more lines then Lon comes out and says Just because you re eighteen, that doesn t mean
you re an adult. Neither does being fifty six. In fact, I think people pretend to appear responsible

Some of the stuff that he said is true but when you are old enough to live alone you kind of have
to have responsibilities. As we get older we have to learn how to rely on ourselves and how to
take charge of our responsibilities. Lon said we just pretend to appear responsible because that s
what we believe an adult is. I think this statement is wrong because if an adult doesn t become
responsible they will suffer a lot in there lives. For example there comes a point in everybody s
lives when our parents don t and maybe can t take care of us any more, so we have to go and get
jobs, buy a home, get a career, and stuff like that. If an adult doesn t do this than what will come
from their future they wouldn t be able to do anything. Another reason why I don t agree with
Lon s statement is because when he said Just because you are eighteen, that doesn t mean you re
an adult . I don t agree with this because in the United States of America once you turn eighteen
you are officially an adult. You can get a job, you can own your own home, you can do so many
other things. My dad told me once I turn eighteen I am going to have to start working to pay for
bills. I hope he was just joking but that s not the point because once you turn eighteen you get a lot

Children at Play
Children At Play: Actual vs. Dramatic One of the signs of early childhood development is the
ability to engage in play. Young children (ages 4 6) prefer non structured environments that gives
them the freedom to un limit their play in different settings. Working with preschoolers for over
five years, I am fascinated to learn all the different ways children playto learn. I understand every
childhas their unique talents and skills that makes them individuals. It is important to sketch out
different play strategies for children and their desired interests. The goal is to answer the question:
what way do children learn the best; actual or dramatic. As a teacher and a researcher I define play
as actual play and dramatic play.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This play is about three billy goats who travel past a bridge. Under that bridge lives two
monsters who want to eat the goats. The point of the play is to get the five participants in
character. For example participant A who played the part of one of the monsters had to shout
and yell to act as a monster, participant B who played the part of one of the goats had to shout and
yell to defend her self from the monster. I realized this type of activity is a great tool for children
to let aggression and tension exit their mind and bodies. As Shallat puts it, The moral or
message that the author hopes to be derived from this dramatic piece is that the suppression of
discomforting feelings leads to additional, undesirable feelings and/or consequences. (Shallat,
2003) It is important for children that are at a high risk for disturbed behavior to engage in
dramatic play to let out negative energy. Suppressing one s feelings from an early age is a sign of
heightened mental burden for later years. Shallat also analyzes that, [...] actors and clinicians/play
directors are encouraged to create their own masks and costumes, providing additional room for
creative expression (Shallat, 2003) As a teacher I find this to be quite intriguing. I realize it is
important for children to engage in dramatic play especially if it highlights creativity

Types Of Treatment For Anxiety Disorders
Introduction Anxiety disorders are distressing, and impairing conditions, associated with significant
social costs (Palazzo, Altamura, Stein, Baldwin, 2014). There are many different types of treatment
for anxiety disorders. Some are more effective than others. The studies within this paper will further
tell us about anxiety disorder, different types of treatments, and treatment effectiveness. The
Purpose of the Studies The purpose of the study by Palazzo, Altamura, Stein, and Baldwin (2014)
was to find published literature on health literacy about psychotropic medications. The study also
includes some difference between public beliefs and clinicians opinions. It is said that anxiety
symptoms and disorders often lead to the development of other mental and physical disorders. It
was proved that mental literacy is effective in encouraging a help seeking attitude. Unfortunately
little is known about how to enhance knowledge about psychotropic medications. Depression and
an anxiety disorder in young patients and in clinicians opinions showed that there are difference
between public beliefs and clinicians opinions. Norton, Abbott, Norberg, and Hunt (2015) studied
mindfulness and acceptance based treatments for social anxiety disorders. The advancement of
mindfulness and acceptance has been associated with psychological supplementary wellbeing.
Individuals avoid or endure situations with intense anxiety, which leads to impairment in life
functioning.

What Is Edward Son s Personality
Edward son of Henry the III, King of England, born on 1239 of June would soon come to inherit
a grand kingdom that could very well change much of Europe. Edwards father, Henry the III,
was married to Edwards s mother, Eleanor of Provence, and during this time period it was very
much uncertain if Edward the newly born son could live up to his father s expectations. While
Edward grew up, just as any young man, his lust for power grew, which made him a boy of
reckless decisions. Henry the III was not very satisfied with his son s rebellious attitude. In fact,
Edward would come to be friends with a man named Simon de Montfort, who was the husband
of another Eleanor, which was Henry the III s sister. England was in grave danger as Edwards
hunger for power was driving him to irresponsible excesses and creating scandal in the country at
large. While Edward was running around causing trouble, the council of England removed much
of Henry the III s executive power, and at last the king was no longer, but a showcase. Henry the
III had been ruling carelessly and this in fact damaged Edwards image and inheritance, so
Edward did what was probably not expected from his father. Edward soon joined forces with
Simon de Montfort who was leading a rebellion against King Henry and was very successful in
attracting men of England to topple Henrys reign. As Edward became more socialized with this
new group of rebels, he would soon come to realize that he was now fighting against his

An example of a low angle shot in the movie can be seen at the start of the movie where it shows

The high angle is a shot where the camera is at a high angle and it shows how the character is

can also show how weak the characters is as it shows that of something that is looked down upon,

The Heart and Circulation of Blood
The Heart and Circulation of Blood
In this research paper, I will be analyzing the process of blood circulation within the human body. I
will be focusing on the pulmonary circuit and the systemic circuit, as well as the relationship with
the hepatic portal system. The combination of these systems allows the body to function properly
and maintain unconscious homeostasis. I will also be talking about the effects that fitness and diet
have on these processes.
The pulmonary circuit passes already used, deoxygenated and carbon dioxide rich blood from the
heart to the lungs in order for that the blood to become oxygenized. Once oxygenized, the blood is
distributed throughout the body via the systemic circuit, being transported in ... Show more content

In addition to the systemic circuit, there is a path that the blood can take through the mesenteric
artery that allows it to pass through the hepatic portal system. The mesenteric artery runs the
blood to the gastrointestinal tract and spleen and then to the liver. The blood s oxygen is
exchanged with carbon dioxide in the capillaries of the gastrointestinal tract, but some of the
blood does not take part in this exchange, and instead travels through the hepatic portal vein to the
liver. The liver is particularly special, as it receives both oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. The
liver then cleanses the blood of bacteria and any other harmful substance that may be in it (King,
2010). From here, the blood flows to the hepatic vein, which is then joined into the inferior vena
cava, and ultimately back to the heart.
It is vital that these processes are carried out without fault. They are all important to maintaining
homeostasis, and one of the ways to keep the blood flowing healthily is with exercise and a
balanced diet. Proper eating and exercise are important for allowing our bodies to fight problems
such as pulmonary hypertension, which an individual can get due to high blood pressure, and
causes the victim to have a shortness of breath (Fagard, 1999). In addition, studies have shown that

disadvantages of the career is that the professionals are obliged to provide care to the terminally

Usually, patients with AIDS, stroke, lung disease, multiple sclerosis, and liver disease are eligible
for the hospice care (Connor, 2017). Notably, the aim of this kind of care is not to pursue the
complete healing of the patient, but to offer a specialized kind of treatment reduces pain and other
health complications as the patients await to succumb to the conditions of their health. To receive
Medicare cover while under hospice care, an individual should belong to Medicare Part A (Connor,
2017). In addition, a qualified physician must ascertain that the individual under consideration is
suffering from a terminal illness. Connor (2017) argues that for a patient to qualify for hospice
care, he or she should be in possession of a 6 months prognosis or less provided that the disease is
following a normal course. In this regard, it is apparent that in order to receive hospice care, a

First Language Acquisition And The Doubt Towards...
Due to the development in first language acquisition and the doubt towards contrastive analysis
which has deemed that all errors made by language learners are caused by the interference from the
mother tongue, error analysis, a response to and an alternative of contrastive analysis and an
approach influenced by behaviourism was given birth to and become increasingly popular among
researchers and teachers who began paying more attention on and shifting the interest in the errors
made by second languagelearners in the 1960s and 1970s (Mitchell, Myles and Marsden, 2013).
Central to the notion of erroranalysis is that it is a process where learners errors are collected and
analysed in order to get some implication from the results (Brown, 1987, p. 17; Corder, 1967;
Khansir, 2012) and the purpose of error analysis according to Corder (1974, p. 170) is to find what
the learner know and does not know and to ultimately enable the teacher to supply him not just with
the information that his hypothesis is wrong, importantly, with the right sort of information or data
for him to form a more adequate concept of rule in the target language . Moreover, Gass and
Selinker (2008) also agree that second language learners errors can provide information about their
knowledge of the system.
To know how error analysis works, firstly it should know what an error is and its possible sources.
When it comes to the definition of errors, many researchers have given their own ideas. Corder

Kamala Das Poetry Summary
Chapter 1
Introduction:
Kamala Das (1934 2009) is one of the most significant feminine voices of Indian English poetry.
Often her vocabulary, idioms, choice of words and some syntactical construction are part of what
has been termed the Indianization of English. As a confessional poet Kamala Das poetry deals with
the pathos of women, emerging from a possessive role to the point of discovering and asserting the
individual liberty. Since confessional poetry is largely subjective and autobiographical, the poet
gets the chance to pour her heart into the poetry. Because of its autobiographical nature the
confessional poetry deals with the instant feelings of the writers which again associates the
personal experiences of the readers also. Through her poetry, Kamala Das not only expresses the
inner feelings but she also projects herself as a feminist poetic voice who is always asking for a
dignified place of honor and identity.
Kamala Das poetry tends to explore the man woman relationship where she tries to uncover and
subvert the politicized patriarchal representation of gendered identity. She openly revolts against
the traditionally accepted womanhood concepts in the Indian society, and urges the women not to
pretend like a nympho that makes them a puppet of masculine world. She raises her voice against
the norms of society which want female to fit into the traditional framework. The frankness with
which Kamala Das depicts her personal relationship about love, sex, loneliness

The Necessity of Automated Fingerprint Identification...
Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) in law enforcement and border control
applications has heightened the need for ensuring that these systems are not compromised. While
several issues related to fingerprint system security have been investigated, including the use of
fake fingerprints for masquerading identity, the problem of fingerprintalteration or obfuscation has
received very little attention. Fingerprint obfuscation refers to the deliberate alteration of the
fingerprint pattern by an individual for the purpose of masking his identity. Several cases of

Fingerprint quality assessment routines used inmost fingerprint identification systems, such as the
opensource NFIQ2 (NIST Fingerprint Image Quality) softwaremay be useful in detecting altered
fingerprints if thecorresponding images are indeed of poor quality. But, notall altered fingerprint
images have poor quality. Since existing fingerprint quality assessment algorithms are designed to
examine if an imagecontains sufficient information (say, minutiae) for matching, they have limited
capability in determining if an image is anatural fingerprint or an altered fingerprint.Altered
fingerprints are different from fake fingerprints. The use of fake fingers made ofglue, latex, or
silicone is a well publicized method to circumvent fingerprint systems. Altered fingerprints,
however, are real fingers that are used to conceal one s identity in order to evade identification by
a biometric system. While fake fingers are typically used by individuals toadopt another person s
identity, altered fingers are used to mask one s own identity. In order to detect attacks based on
fake fingers, many software and hardware solutions have been proposed. However, the problem of
altered fingerprints has hitherto not been studied in the literature and there are no reported
techniques to identify them. Furthermore, the lack of public databases comprised of altered

What Does Rosh Hashanah Mean In The Jewish New Year
Every culture has a different way of keeping time, yet each culture signifies the New Year as a
time for fresh starts. Every New Year falls at a different time depending on the way that each

religions have their own calendars that correspond with each religion s traditional holidays. Rosh

thing in common. This is that the New Year is a timefor new beginnings, which is why both New

asking for forgiveness compared to making promises of losing weight, eating healthy, and
exercising more. Both New Year s have a greeting that goes along with the holiday that has the
same general meaning for Rosh Hashanah it is L shanah Tovah meaning a good year . For the
American New Year, the common phrase is Happy New Year . One major difference is the time
that both holidays are celebrated at. The American New Year is always celebrated on December

hanging out with friends, eating food, and just having a good time. Rosh Hashanah is a much
more serious and religious holiday. There are no parties or drinking heavily as it is a time to
spend with family in synagogue praying; reflecting upon oneself, and asking for forgiveness of
sins. These two New Years have the same meaning behind the holiday but choose to celebrate it in

Is the Coefficient of Restitution Constant for All...
Introduction
When an object collides with another, momentum is conserved, but kinetic energy is not.
This experiment was designed to find if the coefficient of restitution, e, changes for high velocity
collisions. At low velocities colliding objects will tend to maintain their shape, size and elasticity,
so e is likely to be constant over a range. However, at high velocities colliding objects may change
their physical properties and therefore a change (probably a reduction) in e may be observed.
A small reduction in e was observed, but this was probably accounted for by air resistance and not
a change in the material.
Theory
When a collision occurs, total momentum is conserved, but kinetic energy is not. When a ball, for

Apocalyptic Consciousness In The Book Of Revelation
The study of apocalyptic consciousness is of high importance in what people call the last days.
Last day stems from the New Testament. It refers to the day at the end of time following
Armageddon when God will decree the fates of all individual humans according to the good and
evil of their earthly lives. There is a strong interconnection between ancient apocalyptic declaration
and the things that are happening in the modern world. There are many books in the bible that
reveal the connection between the prophecies declared and the events happing now. But the book

There is an interconnection between ancient apocalyptic declaration and the things that are
transpiring in the modern world. Throughout the Bible there are symbols and images that have
been carefully explored and now, can be used to help explain certain phenomena. In Luke 21:25
it says, There will be signs in the sun in the moon and in the stars . In John Hagee s book Four
Blood Moons, he conveys the idea of god using the sun, moon, and stars as his personal high
definition billboard. This is referring to the Biblical text of Joel 2:30 31. Such apocalyptic
consciousness finds expression in the contemporary popular culture in light of the fact that even
the scientific world refer to such phenomenon. Through research it is known that this
astronomical event is actually called a blood moon. The red moon is possible because while the
moon is in total shadow, some light form the sun passes through the earth s atmosphere and is
bent towards the moon. While the other colours in the spectrum are blocked and scattered by earth

The Battle Of Quebec And The British Army
The Battle of Quebec took place on 13 September 1759. This battle was part of the French and
Indian War between the French Army and the British Army. The French Indian war was the North
American front of the Seven Years War, which was fought on the European continent and on the
Indian subcontinent. The outcome of the Battle Of Quebec would prove pivotal in determining
who would control Canada. The British exhibited successful tactics in deception, exploited false
assumptions, took audacious actions, and benefited from unity of effort. The French suffered due
to a lack of standardization between regular army and militia members, which led to an
embarrassing defeat at Quebec. Events leading to the Battle Many European empires began
serious colonization efforts of North America in the1500 s. The main colonizers of North
America were the French, Spanish and British. The British colonization efforts were concentrated
along the east coast of America, while the French began their colonization in Canada. Sieur de La
Salle, a French explorer, traveled down the Mississippi river to the Gulf of Mexico in the mid
1500s. France claimed ownership of everything from the Appalachian Mountains to the Rockies
(Davis). France now had two major colonies consisting of Canada, and Louisiana as well as control
of overland trade routes connecting the two colonies. In 1754 colonial growth forced the English to

The Cost Of Paying Attention By Matthew Crawford
In the article The Cost of Paying Attention , Matthew Crawford, the editor for The New York

what they need to focus on. He stresses the importance of silence because silence is hard to come
by and it s what make it possible to think. Since it s much harder to pay attentionwith all the
distraction being around, it s better to prioritize one s brainso distraction won t happen...
(Crawford) Throughout my entire life, I realized it was difficult for me to pay attention for more

I have overcome that weakness, you can t pay me to lose focus from anything. I have now learned

into a lounge in an airport, and as soon as I entered, I felt as if I was in the rich people land. The

There is a very old model of the classifiers and adversaries, where it is assumed that both of them
have full information about data, and the classifiers set some boundaries on the data D and
attacker recognizes the those boundaries and modifies the data to D , again classifiers set new
boundaries, and in this manner, the process goes till infinite time and thus a sequential game
between the classifier and the attacker has been establishes. However, the key idea in game theory
is that of equilibrium: a state from which neither the classifier nor the adversary will have any
incentive to deviate.
The scheme represents the model of the spammer and data miner game , in which the strategy of
the spammer and data miner has been explained. After this, the scheme also explains what may be
the possible outcomes of this model and whether we can get the equilibrium state in this model if
we are using the backward induction.
The Model of Infinite stackelberg game has been introduced and explained in this paper. The
rollback or the backward induction can be seen as an optimization problem. The classification

Who Is Gustav Klimt Scandal
During his lifetime, Gustav Klimt rose to fame due to the scandal his paintings causes. With his art,
he shocked his way to success, with his erotic depictions in stark moral contrast with turn of the
century Austrian society. As said in Gustav Klimt: Modernism in the Making, Klimt s reputation
grew as much upon scandal as it did upon the quality of work itself.
But what exactly was the scandal? Nude paintings were hardly new to the art world. It wasn t
subject that was causing a stir, but rather the actions of his subjects. Klimt explicitly depicted female
masturbation and lesbianism in his art. Apart from the studies depicting the most intimate union of

Whereas anti feminists associated women with traditional, saintly ideas of motherhood that were
radically opposed to the threatening sexuality of the prostitute or femme fatale, Klimt combines
elements of both stereotypes to achieve a more complex, ambivalent representations. Even society,
currently likes to hold onto the idea that once a woman has given birth, she is no longer a sexual

Even more controversial was Water Serpents I, painted in 1907. The painting shows two women

Symbolism In Raskolnikov s Nightmare
He had not an instant more to lose. He pulled the axe out completely, swung it with both arms,
scarcely conscious of himself, and almost without effort, almost mechanically, brought the blunt
side down on her head... Then with all his strength he dealt her another and another blow with the
blunt side, and on the same spot (Dostoyevsky 77). Relating the following passage to previous
events in the book, a symbolic connection can be made between the murder to Raskolnikov s
nightmare (55 59). Whenever Raskolnikov is out on a walk, he thinks of disturbing circumstances,
only to come across something beautiful in his eyes. Horses are generally described to be both
majestic and beautiful, which would apply to Raskolnikov s attraction towards them. Horses are
also often used to symbolize freedom and strength, which is what he vaguely hopes for.... Show

Now, you would think that Raskolnikov would be viewed as the dying mare, due to realizing
his need to be free of debt. However, for this analysis, I believe the mare actually represents
Alyona. Alyona was the old woman who worked as a pawnbroker, but she was extremely
untrusting and unliked by the community (as displayed whenever Raskolnikov was in the bar).
During a certain bar visit, Raskolnikov overhears a conversation that basically brings up murder,
as the old woman served no real purpose to society and would make things better if she were to
disappear. Raskolnikov proceeds to construct a plan of action to kill the old woman with an

Racial Profiling And The American Civil Liberties Union
Racial profiling can hold a variety of meanings. As defined by the American Civil Liberties
Union, however, racial profiling is the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of
targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or
national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Every day, blacks are stopped much more frequently for aimless
searches and minor infractions than their white counterparts. Several African Americans share
experiences like these, such as Roscoe Van Pelt, who was violently snatched off the street and
crammed into a squad car after the ludicrous crimeof jaywalking (Walsh). A more extreme
example would be the case of Sandra Bland, who was brutally beaten following failure to signal a
lane change (Schuppe). Incidents like these occur far too frequently in black communities, all for
the color of their skin. The practices of policecan best be explained in the elaboration of case
probability versus class probability. Case probability is when police take specific evidence with
concrete proof in regards to the victim of a crime to accuse one of a crime. Class probability,
however, is when police generalize normal committers of the specific crime to accuse one for it.
For example, if police aimed to prosecute a seller of marijuana and Hispanics were typically
known to commit such a crime, class probability would be integrated into case investigation if
police searched every Hispanic on site for the

Rag Tag Research Paper
Since the invention of many revolutionary machines and the introduction of the railroad, life for
common people has become much more challenging and much less fulfilling. The hours we are
working are extreme, the pay is poor, and the working conditions are unbearable and unsafe.
With life as hard as it is we would like to ask that you look inside yourself and help make our
lives, your workers, easier and safer. Though inventions like the cotton gin have made farming
industries larger these inventions come with a cost. A job that could have required ten men is now
done with one machine leaving many people without jobs. To the growing middle class and
businessmen, such as yourself, life might not look so bad, but for the lower class life is... Show

The hardships do not cease once I get to the factory. Along with the strenuous work day there is
the concern with safety. The working conditions are very dangerous with dangerous parts of some
machines out in the open making mutilation a very real threat. If a worker were to get hurt on the
job they would be fired and get no compensation and without being able to pay bills they would be

After suffering through a ninety hour work week I receive my meager paycheck. A paycheck that

In this research is to show the differences of the Austroads pavement design and AASHTO

be known as semi empirical in pavement design. For the mechanistic design process, the first
process is about the design traffic (ESA). To design the traffic, traffic loading is the main
parameter to be known. Traffic loading contains four type of design such as seal design,
highway pavement design, airports design, ports and log handling yards. Seal design is using the

Articles Of Confederation Achievements
Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government was very weak and unable to
accommodate the nation after declaring its independence (Schultz, 2010). The Articles of
Confederation was a document drafted by the Continental Congress between 1776 and 1777, which
defined the colonies power and authority. Although the Articles were ready for ratification the
following year, it would not go into effect until 1781 after all thirteen states were in agreeance.
Once the Articles were ratified, they made three notable achievements (Schultz, 2010). First, they
showcased that the government consisted of laws that limited its authority. Minimizing the power
that the government wielded was important to the people because they had just escaped rule from
Great Britain. Next, the Articles made it clear that there would be no titles or a class system in the
nation, granting equal rights to all qualifying members. Finally, the Articles of Confederationhad
accomplished a functional way of the organization regarding the new lands obtained in the west. ...

First, the Articles required that all states must agree on any bills before becoming law. This is
the most significant flaw because each state had their own distinct needs and interests, it would
be challenging to pass any bill that would be equally beneficial to all thirteen states. For
example, the nation was very much in debt due to the recent war and needed a way to raise
funds. Therefore, Congress passed a bill that would have put a 5 percent tax on all imported goods.
However, because the Articles needed full unanimity, the bill died because Rhode Island was
against it as the state depended on imported

The Red Badge Of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage is a war novel written to exemplify the experiences and emotions of a
young soldier in the American Civil War. The novel details the qualities of maturity and manhood in
a gripping tale of Private Henry Fleming of the Union Army. The author, Stephen Crane wishes to
relate the American public to the emotional and psychological challenges endured by countless men
in the Civil War. Born in 1871, Stephen Cranewas raised in a Methodist family. While training to
become a professional baseball player, he eventually chose to write as his career. Throughout most
of his life, Stephen stuck to his commitment that all his work should be backed by personal
experience on the subject matter. However, his most famous work, The Red Badge of Couragewas
completely based on his remarkable imagination. He had no war experience; however, his vivid
descriptions and details of war surprised critics with their incredible accuracy. Stephen s
approach at writing the novel was to emphasize the passion, confusion, and growth of the
soldiers, as most of the war tales at the time were merely factual. The Red Badge of Courage
presents war in a new light, one of emotional struggles and mental milestones. In the tense times
of today, it is easy to forget the maturity and courage of our nation s heroes. Many writers and
politicians portray war as a battle between good and evil, or as a fight for superiority. While this
may be true, it is necessary to remember the

Compare And Contrast The Crucible And The Red Scare
The Crucible a play about how choices can impact or kill someones life so strongly with The
Red Scare having the exact same concept. Miller s Crucible was written during the red scare to
tell Americans to wake up and show how history really can repeat itself. In The Crucible Abigail
and some young girls from 1692 go dancing in the woods and cook some food in a pot when
Parris the head of town and Abigail s uncle find them doing this. He calls witchcraft and the
blame games begin. This is parallel to the Red Scare when people in the 1950 s were being
accused of communism. The conflict in the Crucible is parallel to the Red Scare because of the
blame game, hysteria and, . An event in The Crucible that is relatable to the Red Scare is the
blame game that is played throughout both. Tituba a slave of Parris is accused by Abigail of
witchcraft and is finding any means necessary to save her life. While being beaten and whipped
states: TITUBA. Oh, bless the Lord HALE. When the devil comes to you does he ever come
with another person? (She stares into his face) Perhaps another person in the village? Someone
you know. PARRIS. Who came with him? PUTNAM. Sarah Good? Did you ever see Sarah good
with him? Or Osburn? PARRIS. Was it man or woman came with him? TITUBA. Man or
woman.. Was was woman PARRIS. What woman? A woman, you said. What woman? TITUBA.
It was black dark, and I PARRIS. You could see him, why could you not see her? TITUBA. Well,
they was always talking; they was always runnin round and carryin on. This shows the only way
to be safe in that time and not die or be jailed was to admit you were a witch even if you weren t,
ask God for forgiveness and blame someone else and this was exactly the same for the Red Scare.
Also, after the all the girls wanted forgiveness they would name people they saw in the devil s
book. This is what Betty and Abigail say to Hale and the rest of the people in the room after
begging for forgiveness: ABIGAIL. I saw Goody Hawkins with the devil! BETTY. I saw Goody
Bibber with the devil! ABIGAIL. I saw Goody Booth with the devil! In The Crucible if these girls

Theme And Meaning Of Peter Pan
Theme and Meaning Peter Pan is a timeless tale in which transcends time and culture through its
underlying themes. Each of the characters fulfilled their roles tremendously, and was able to
bring forth these themes in their own unique ways. The most apparent, from the beginning, is
the emphasis of youthfulness. Peter is the main embodiment of this theme, given he does not
physically age. From the beginning, his role was that to entice Wendy and her siblings to
journey with him to Never never land. What this magical place represents is a state of remaining
youthful forever, and not letting society conform one s beliefs. The concept of age is masked by
Peter s stubbornness to not conform to such. For example, Wendy wants to get married and have
kids one day; Peter does not. Wendy wants this because she is taught from a young age that this
is a common normality of life. Peter refusing to stay at the house with the other lost boys, in the
end, showed that such normality does not have to be one s choice. This theme was conveyed by
the play being both a comedy and a musical. These two forms of drama brought with it both
wittiness and purity, both of which are a direct correlation youthfulness. And the character s ability
to sing with clarity helped boost such a message. The role such clarity played is relevant to
American culture, today. In order for people to listen, in a society with so much information, a
message must be clear and transparent. Although it is not necessary

Essay on Christmas Traditions Around Th
RELIGIOUS PRACTICE AND POPULAR CUSTOMS
The Bible provides no guidelines that explain how Christmas should be observed, nor does it even
suggest that it should be considered a religious holiday. Because of the lack of biblical instructions,
Christmas rituals have been shaped by the religious and popular traditions of each culture that
celebrates the holiday.
On Christmas Eve, churches around the world hold evening services. At midnight, most Catholic
and many Protestant churches hold special candlelight services. The Catholic midnight Mass was
first introduced by the Roman Catholic Church in the 5th century.

Santa Claus is not a prominent figure in Italian folklore. Instead, Italian children wait for La
Befana, a good witch who rides her broom to their homes on Epiphany to distribute gifts.
According to folk belief, La Befana was too busy to accompany the Three Wise Men on their
journey to visit the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. Now, to make up for her failing, she visits all good
children and leaves them treats.
In France Christmas in France is called NoГ«l. Celebrations reach their peak on Christmas Eve,
which tends to be more wild than solemn, especially in the cities. The festival meal is , a midnight
supper that may consist of oysters, sausages, baked ham, fowl, fruit, pastries, and wine. In the
French countryside, families often burn a large Yule log and preserve the ashes to protect the home
from evil during the coming year.
In Spain Spaniards attend church at Christmas, but during the Christmas season they also
participate in seasonal rituals that can be traced back to pagan times. For example, townspeople
gather in village squares around an quot;urn of fate. quot; Each person writes his or her name on
a piece of paper and places it in the urn. A designated person then draws the names out, two at a
time. According to an old belief, those whose names are drawn together will be best friends for the
coming year.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Oral Communication
Sender: this refers to the originator of the idea or the communicator. To be a good sender, you need
to be clear about the message that you are sending. Typical questions to be answered at this level
includes what do you want to communicate? and why are you communicating? Failure to address
these two issues properly at the start may increase the chances of failing with respect to the whole
communicationprocess. As a sender you may use symbols that express your message and create the
desired response.
Message: this is the intended information to be passed on or communicated. Without a message,
there should not even be the need to communicate at all. It has to be properly summarised as and
when necessary to ensure that it is well understood. The message should meet five basic criteria.
It should be clear, complete, and correct, save reader s time, and it should build goodwill. o It s

letters, reports, bulletins, job descriptions, posters, notes, employee manuals and memorandum.
Decoding: this is what happens upon receiving the information. It is the breaking down of the
information by the receiver to a level that will enhance understanding. It is greatly influenced by
factors such as the ability to read and comprehend, listen carefully and asking questions and

The Pros And Cons Of Volunteerism
5.Conclusion
With this thesis I wanted to create a broader view on the systems behind all the critiques on
volunteerism projects in order to contribute to projects that are both beneficial for volunteers as
well as for host communities. The theoretical aim of this thesis was to contribute to the scientific
debate on how volunteerism projects impact volunteers and host communities, through showing
how this impact is influenced by processes of liminality and Othering. On top of that, I wanted to
question the notion of giving aid as the starting point of volunteerism projects. The story
represented two groups; volunteers and host communities, who joined volunteerism projects with
good intentions. Some, however, unaware of the unintended consequences and how their
expectations would work out.
5.1The unintended consequences of the desire to help
It all started with one group of volunteers who had a specific interest in improving the waste
management in Bandung and another group of volunteers that wanted to teach English to children
in the same region. They both found volunteering project from AIESEC that focussed on these

management and teaching English on paper, the projects turn out to be focussed on something as

Government Regulation By The Private Sector Essay
Introduction
Today, our nation is under constant attack by hackers, terrorist groups and other enemies.
Unfortunately regardless of how innovative our government or private sectors have become with
securing the network systems, the frequency and intensity of the attacks have only increased. Over
the last decade, security breaches and cyber attacks have highlighted how dependent our nation is
on its critical infrastructure. It was concluded that a total of 54% of cyber attacks targeted the US
in 2013 (Watkins, n.d). Through experiences such as September 11, 2001, it has become apparent
how interconnected our infrastructure is and the exposure to targeted attacks we face as a nation
(Katen, 2004). With the private industry owning over 85% of our nation s critical infrastructure, it
is important for the government to create and maintain regulations which should be followed by all
agencies and private sectors in order to protect our national security. There are several concerns
about government regulation by the private sector and how it will affect their consumers privacy
and the company s finances. However, the Cybersecurity Act of 2015 ensures user s privacy while
sharing information between companies and agencies. Furthermore, there are several effects on
national security resulting from failure to comply with government regulation, meeting only the
minimum requirements and exceeding the minimum requirement. With that being said, it has
become part of the private

author, Jerry Thompson, gives his readers some background on who Cortina was and how he
became such a leader by giving prominence to positive parts of his life as a soldier. Juan Cortina,
who operated a ranch near Brownsville, believed Tejanos were being treated unfairly. He argued
that some Anglo Americans had taken land from Tejanos who were unfamiliar with the U.S court

  • 2. Beyond The Things They Carried Beyond the Things They Carried The Vietnam War began in 1954, consisting of many extensive, horrific years of battle that seemed to create more harm to the United States and its soldiers rather than to North Vietnam. The 500,000 United States military personnel returned home with the loss of the war and the loss of their friends on their minds. Although the physical and emotional experiences that the men went through is unfathomable, Tim O Brien does a great job portraying what life as a soldier was truly like in the Vietnam War. In the book The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien depicts the unstable emotional and psychological condition of the American soldiers through the symbolism of their belongings and personal anecdotes from their lives. The book opens with Tim O Brien listing items that the soldiers needed to carry with them for life in Vietnam, such as a P 38 can opener, mosquito repellent, C rations, dog tags, and many more necessities, weighing around twelve to eighteen pounds in total. Many men also had the added weight of weapons needed for combat, which then added another five to twenty six pounds depending on what weapon and the amount of ammunition necessary. On average, most men carried around thirty pounds, but the load was much higher when considering the emotional and psychological weight put on their shoulders from the impact of these items. Early on in the book Tim O Brien states, They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Ability To Test Welds Has Progressed Rapidly Over The The ability to test welds has progressed rapidly over the years. After the discovery of the short pulsed electric arc in 1800 by Humphry Davy[3][4] and the continuous electric arc by Vasily Petrov in 1802, there was little development in electrical welding until 1881.Around that time there was little to be done as far as the rigidity of inspection goes. As long as man has been on earth, we have been visually testing things to see if it passes our persona critique of standard perfection. With weld quality assurance Visual Testing (VT) is where it welding inspection all starts. Before the first welding arc is struck, materials should be examined to see if they meet specifications for quality, type, size, cleanliness and freedom from defects.... With the general principle of my device consists of sending high frequency vibrations into the part to be inspected, ultrasonic testing is applied to many fields of metallurgy withing many occupations. Ultrasonic testing becomes less suitable when determining porosity in welds, because round gas pores respond as a series of single point reflectors to ultrasonic tests. UT inspection system consists of several functional units, such as the pulser/receiver, transducer, and display device. How Ultrasonic Testing (UT) works is by having an ultrasound transducer connected to a diagnostic machine is passed over the object being inspected. The pulser/receiver is an electronic device that produces high voltage electrical pulses, while the transducer, which is driven by the pulser generates high frequency ultrasonic energy. Separated by test object is a couplant. As sound is introduced, it spreads through the materials in the form of sound waves. When there is a discontinuity (such as a crack) in the wave path, part of the energy will be reflected back from the flaw surface. With a few advantages ranging from: High penetrating power, which allows the detection of flaws deep in the part, great accuracy, non hazardous operation, portability, and immediate results. A few advantages of UT are : It is sensitive to both surface and subsurface discontinuities. The depth of penetration for flaw detection or measurement is superior to other NDT methods. In the article entitled the Knowledge Tax , the author looks at why is Higher Education facing a higher rate of taxes, and why is the tax pool itself so large compared to other taxable entities. An example used in the text is that why would a person who graduates from college, and then decides to go on medical school, faces a higher tax rate with less lucrative tax loopholes than someone who decides to run an apartment complex, citing the more relaxed tax laws in property ownership than education. The author also looks at how much can be deducted on tax forms via capital gains for the apartment property owner versus what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, members of both parties were in support of how President Bush handled the situation as well as his response thereafter. But after the clean up was over, and the tears shed dried, another issue has arisen that creates an interesting decision process. What is a terror threat has now become an issue that Washington has dealt with thru the remaining seven years of the Bush administration and into the current seven years of the Obama administration. The article looks at how those who are perceived as less tolerant are more likely to believe in greater threats of terrorism than those who are tolerant. In an experiment that was done in the article, there was an almost pure one hundred percent link between people who had terrorism fears and support of anti terrorism policies. Essentially this was the people who identified as members of the GOP. The Democrat side of the aisle was considered a bit more skewed as there were people who had little terrorism fears yet supported anti terrorism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. We Are A Catholic Heritage By Donald Dayton And American... This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued with them both and their very presence in many of our modern day congregations, as well as the secular parts of our society. After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the attributes that have been emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage by Donald Dayton and American Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting Grace. We are a church transformed by grace, connected through relationships and committed to service is their mission statement and as is everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a large campus with several buildings surrounding the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can be accessed with one of their many golf carts. I must say, as someone who works with youth, I was impressed as to their commitment to a separate building for kids, especially those in middle school and high school. At a time when autonomy is so important for a young person, (and budgets are limited), having their own space is quite impressive. The first thing you notice upon entering the stadium styled sanctuary, is the focus on the stage; very theatrical. To the left of the stage, there is a large drop down screen for people to follow along with the lyrics when the singing has begun. Hanging behind the band on the main stage, is a bohemian or ... • 6. The Creation Of A Utopian Civilization Essay In an imperfect world such as ours, the idea of a utopia capable of satisfying all needs and desires has been attempted to be made reality time and time again. However, few have succeeded because it is difficult if not impossible to accommodate a large population of people with varying interests. The key to maintaining a utopian civilization is ensuring that all basic needs are met in order to avoid the overthrow of the established government regulation activity. The creation of Bentopia is centered around the goal to make the most efficient society possible while still allowing citizens the freedom to choose. As the architectural committee, we strived to develop both public and personal spaces that optimize the use of space in a non wasteful manner, while also keeping in mind the climate, geographical location of our city, and environmental impact our structures have. The way we have organized houses, shopping malls, governmental and corporate buildings within our utopia is meant to maximize resources we have on hand through the division of the city into three districts. The most important considerations when creating a layout fit for a utopia fifty years into the future is offering a comfortable, sustainable lifestyle while still retaining core values of free will and equality. The practical distribution of material goods should not jeopardize basic rights that are standard within an ideal society. When first approaching the dilemma on how to allot land, the urban ... What Machiavelli calls prowess aptly describes how Vito comes to power, he rises through the ranks based on his talents. Michael emerges due to fortune , being the youngest son he inherits the role by chance. In Cuba, bad fortune contributes to the botched assassination attempt on Roth. Michael s inability to adapt to conditions he does not control leads to Roth escaping. Conversely , as an immigrant who came to America with nothing Vito is a product of bad fortune from the start. This seemed to make him more adaptable to situations beyond his control. Michael is a son of America and fortune, thus he did not have to learn how to adapt, this reflects in his leadership. • 8. Gun, Hunting, And Personal Defense Putting rounds down range every time you pull the trigger on your firearm is very important, whether for target shooting, hunting, or personal defense. Equally important to putting rounds down range is the proper maintenance of your firearm. There are many types of firearms in today s world with some that are more complicated than others in their operation and maintenance. One of the easier firearms to maintain is the Armalite Rifle, Model 15, otherwise known as the AR 15. The basic disassembly, or field striping, of the AR 15, is universal regardless of who the manufacture is or how the gas system is set up. You will only need a clear work surface, a beach towel or similar item, and a number 2 punch to complete the disassembly process.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Place your towel flat on your work surface before proceeding (this is to help prevent oil, grease, powder residue, and your firearm from damaging the work surface). The first step in disassembly after making the weapon clear and safe is to separate the upper receiver group from the lower receiver group. Locate the takedown pin, which is located just above the safety, and the pivot pin, which is located at the front of the lower receiver. With your number 2 punch depress the takedown pin from the left side. You should feel a noticeable click when the takedown pin overcomes the force of the takedown pin detent. Repeat for the pivot pin, being careful not to push the pin all the way through the receiver. The takedown pin and pivot pins should now be partially extended on the right side of the lower receiver. Lay the firearm on its left side so it lies flat on your work surface. Grasp the takedown pin from the right side and pull till it fully extends out the right side of the receiver. Again, you should feel a noticeable click when the detent pin engages the takedown pin at the fully extended position. Now repeat by grasping and pulling the pivot pin till it fully extends out the right side of the receiver. Next, while holding the lower receiver group, grasp the upper receiver group and slide it clear of the lower receiver group. At this point the lower receiver group disassembly is complete, so sit it to one side ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Understanding the Relationships between teachers and other professionals in lifelong learning and possible points of referral for learners. A teachers primary role is to deliver information. The 2003 workload agreement (Woodward and Peart, 2013) not only defined the levels of work a teacher could reasonably expect but also defined the roles which would provide a framework of support to the specifics of the teaching role. Though this applies to secondary education the principles can inform teacher roles in the lifelong learning sector. • 11. Why Santa Claus Is Good For Developing Children s Creativity Are you believing in Santa Claus? Have you asked this question to someone? Children would say Yes, but adults would say No. This is because children believe that Santa Claus gives them a lot of gifts on Christmas day, but adults know the gifts are given by their parents. Christmas is the most popular holiday all over the world, and most families get together and spend time on dinner in the United States. Children enjoy everything such as Santa Clausand reindeer as reality, but adults just have fun with an atmosphere of the event through Christmassongs and illuminations. What makes the difference between them? The answer is believing in Santa Claus or not. However, even though adults know the man is not real, all people should believe in Santa Claus. Believing in Santa Claus gives everyone benefits such as developing children s creativity and more enjoyment of Christmas for adults. Belief in Santa Claus is good for developing children s creativity. According to Mertens, the author says that As children s brains develop, so do their reasoning skills and imaginations. Children think of Santa Claus s figure, how he comes to their house, and when he leaves gifts. They also think about that logically. For example, if there is no chimney, a child could imagine that Santa Claus enters his or her house from a window. These processes can help children have visions of what they think. Children exhibit a form of magical thinking by about 18 months, when they begin to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is especially true in Baltimore one of the largest cities in the state of Maryland and continues to grow. Police officers and law enforcement professionals have to be thoroughly equipped to handle the stress of law enforcement work on a day to day basis. As a result, the state of Maryland has put into place high standards for those interested in working in law enforcement. Like other states, Maryland requires that those interested in working in law enforcement go through a state accredited police academy. However, unlike other states, applicants are not required to go through an agency first before enrolling in a police academy. The state of Maryland does have what can be referred to as a commission that oversees and enacts standards that applicants must meet before becoming police officers. Some basic requirements that applicants must possess are, they must be at least 21 years of age or older, they must be a U.S. citizen, and they must have a high school diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma. I think this statement is wrong because if an adult doesn t become responsible they will suffer a lot in there lives. For example there comes a point in everybody s lives when our parents don t and maybe can t take care of us any more, so we have to go and get jobs, buy a home, get a career, and stuff like that. If an adult doesn t do this than what will come from their future they wouldn t be able to do anything. Another reason why I don t agree with Lon s statement is because when he said Just because you are eighteen, that doesn t mean you re an adult . I don t agree with this because in the United States of America once you turn eighteen you are officially an adult. You can get a job, you can own your own home, you can do so many other things. Young children (ages 4 6) prefer non structured environments that gives them the freedom to un limit their play in different settings. Working with preschoolers for over five years, I am fascinated to learn all the different ways children playto learn. I understand every childhas their unique talents and skills that makes them individuals. It is important to sketch out different play strategies for children and their desired interests. The goal is to answer the question: what way do children learn the best; actual or dramatic. As a teacher and a researcher I define play as actual play and dramatic play.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This play is about three billy goats who travel past a bridge. Under that bridge lives two monsters who want to eat the goats. The point of the play is to get the five participants in character. For example participant A who played the part of one of the monsters had to shout and yell to act as a monster, participant B who played the part of one of the goats had to shout and yell to defend her self from the monster. I realized this type of activity is a great tool for children to let aggression and tension exit their mind and bodies. As Shallat puts it, The moral or message that the author hopes to be derived from this dramatic piece is that the suppression of discomforting feelings leads to additional, undesirable feelings and/or consequences. (Shallat, 2003) It is important for children that are at a high risk for disturbed behavior to engage in dramatic play to let out negative energy. Suppressing one s feelings from an early age is a sign of heightened mental burden for later years. Shallat also analyzes that, [...] actors and clinicians/play directors are encouraged to create their own masks and costumes, providing additional room for creative expression (Shallat, 2003) As a teacher I find this to be quite intriguing. Edwards father, Henry the III, was married to Edwards s mother, Eleanor of Provence, and during this time period it was very much uncertain if Edward the newly born son could live up to his father s expectations. While Edward grew up, just as any young man, his lust for power grew, which made him a boy of reckless decisions. Henry the III was not very satisfied with his son s rebellious attitude. In fact, Edward would come to be friends with a man named Simon de Montfort, who was the husband of another Eleanor, which was Henry the III s sister. England was in grave danger as Edwards hunger for power was driving him to irresponsible excesses and creating scandal in the country at large. While Edward was running around causing trouble, the council of England removed much of Henry the III s executive power, and at last the king was no longer, but a showcase. I will be focusing on the pulmonary circuit and the systemic circuit, as well as the relationship with the hepatic portal system. The combination of these systems allows the body to function properly and maintain unconscious homeostasis. I will also be talking about the effects that fitness and diet have on these processes. The pulmonary circuit passes already used, deoxygenated and carbon dioxide rich blood from the heart to the lungs in order for that the blood to become oxygenized. Once oxygenized, the blood is distributed throughout the body via the systemic circuit, being transported in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to the systemic circuit, there is a path that the blood can take through the mesenteric artery that allows it to pass through the hepatic portal system. The mesenteric artery runs the blood to the gastrointestinal tract and spleen and then to the liver. The blood s oxygen is exchanged with carbon dioxide in the capillaries of the gastrointestinal tract, but some of the blood does not take part in this exchange, and instead travels through the hepatic portal vein to the liver. The liver is particularly special, as it receives both oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. The liver then cleanses the blood of bacteria and any other harmful substance that may be in it (King, 2010). From here, the blood flows to the hepatic vein, which is then joined into the inferior vena cava, and ultimately back to the heart. It is vital that these processes are carried out without fault. They are all important to maintaining homeostasis, and one of the ways to keep the blood flowing healthily is with exercise and a balanced diet. Proper eating and exercise are important for allowing our bodies to fight problems such as pulmonary hypertension, which an individual can get due to high blood pressure, and causes the victim to have a shortness of breath (Fagard, 1999). Due to the development in first language acquisition and the doubt towards contrastive analysis which has deemed that all errors made by language learners are caused by the interference from the mother tongue, error analysis, a response to and an alternative of contrastive analysis and an approach influenced by behaviourism was given birth to and become increasingly popular among researchers and teachers who began paying more attention on and shifting the interest in the errors made by second languagelearners in the 1960s and 1970s (Mitchell, Myles and Marsden, 2013). Central to the notion of erroranalysis is that it is a process where learners errors are collected and analysed in order to get some implication from the results (Brown, 1987, p. 17; Corder, 1967; Khansir, 2012) and the purpose of error analysis according to Corder (1974, p. 170) is to find what the learner know and does not know and to ultimately enable the teacher to supply him not just with the information that his hypothesis is wrong, importantly, with the right sort of information or data for him to form a more adequate concept of rule in the target language . Moreover, Gass and Selinker (2008) also agree that second language learners errors can provide information about their knowledge of the system. • 24. Kamala Das Poetry Summary Chapter 1 Introduction: Kamala Das (1934 2009) is one of the most significant feminine voices of Indian English poetry. Often her vocabulary, idioms, choice of words and some syntactical construction are part of what has been termed the Indianization of English. As a confessional poet Kamala Das poetry deals with the pathos of women, emerging from a possessive role to the point of discovering and asserting the individual liberty. Since confessional poetry is largely subjective and autobiographical, the poet gets the chance to pour her heart into the poetry. Because of its autobiographical nature the confessional poetry deals with the instant feelings of the writers which again associates the personal experiences of the readers also. Through her poetry, Kamala Das not only expresses the inner feelings but she also projects herself as a feminist poetic voice who is always asking for a dignified place of honor and identity. Kamala Das poetry tends to explore the man woman relationship where she tries to uncover and subvert the politicized patriarchal representation of gendered identity. She openly revolts against the traditionally accepted womanhood concepts in the Indian society, and urges the women not to pretend like a nympho that makes them a puppet of masculine world. There is a very old model of the classifiers and adversaries, where it is assumed that both of them have full information about data, and the classifiers set some boundaries on the data D and attacker recognizes the those boundaries and modifies the data to D , again classifiers set new boundaries, and in this manner, the process goes till infinite time and thus a sequential game between the classifier and the attacker has been establishes. However, the key idea in game theory is that of equilibrium: a state from which neither the classifier nor the adversary will have any incentive to deviate. The scheme represents the model of the spammer and data miner game , in which the strategy of the spammer and data miner has been explained. After this, the scheme also explains what may be the possible outcomes of this model and whether we can get the equilibrium state in this model if we are using the backward induction. The Model of Infinite stackelberg game has been introduced and explained in this paper. The rollback or the backward induction can be seen as an optimization problem. The classification problem can be modeled as a game theoretic problem. Genetic algorithm for solving the Infinite stackelberg game has been explained. The gist of the ... With his art, he shocked his way to success, with his erotic depictions in stark moral contrast with turn of the century Austrian society. As said in Gustav Klimt: Modernism in the Making, Klimt s reputation grew as much upon scandal as it did upon the quality of work itself. But what exactly was the scandal? Nude paintings were hardly new to the art world. It wasn t subject that was causing a stir, but rather the actions of his subjects. Jill Lloyd, an expert in twentieth century German and Austrian art wrote that Klimt s allegorical women, moreover, are frequently seductive; even a young woman in the full bloom of pregnancy like Hope I has a seductive allure. Whereas anti feminists associated women with traditional, saintly ideas of motherhood that were radically opposed to the threatening sexuality of the prostitute or femme fatale, Klimt combines elements of both stereotypes to achieve a more complex, ambivalent representations. Even society, currently likes to hold onto the idea that once a woman has given birth, she is no longer a sexual being. Even more controversial was Water Serpents I, painted in 1907. As defined by the American Civil Liberties Union, however, racial profiling is the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Every day, blacks are stopped much more frequently for aimless searches and minor infractions than their white counterparts. Several African Americans share experiences like these, such as Roscoe Van Pelt, who was violently snatched off the street and crammed into a squad car after the ludicrous crimeof jaywalking (Walsh). A more extreme example would be the case of Sandra Bland, who was brutally beaten following failure to signal a lane change (Schuppe). Incidents like these occur far too frequently in black communities, all for the color of their skin. The practices of policecan best be explained in the elaboration of case probability versus class probability. Case probability is when police take specific evidence with concrete proof in regards to the victim of a crime to accuse one of a crime. Class probability, however, is when police generalize normal committers of the specific crime to accuse one for it. For example, if police aimed to prosecute a seller of marijuana and Hispanics were typically known to commit such a crime, class probability would be integrated into case investigation if police searched every Hispanic on site for the ... Each of the characters fulfilled their roles tremendously, and was able to bring forth these themes in their own unique ways. The most apparent, from the beginning, is the emphasis of youthfulness. Peter is the main embodiment of this theme, given he does not physically age. From the beginning, his role was that to entice Wendy and her siblings to journey with him to Never never land. What this magical place represents is a state of remaining youthful forever, and not letting society conform one s beliefs. The concept of age is masked by Peter s stubbornness to not conform to such. For example, Wendy wants to get married and have kids one day; Peter does not. Wendy wants this because she is taught from a young age that this is a common normality of life. Peter refusing to stay at the house with the other lost boys, in the end, showed that such normality does not have to be one s choice. This theme was conveyed by the play being both a comedy and a musical. These two forms of drama brought with it both wittiness and purity, both of which are a direct correlation youthfulness. And the character s ability to sing with clarity helped boost such a message. The role such clarity played is relevant to American culture, today.
