A central concern in the study of epistemology is what truth is. In general, it would seem intuitively
wrong to claim that something is known if that claim to knowledge was not true. However,
identifying what truth is and what it means for a proposition to be true has remained contentious
and unclear. While some philosophers argue that it is unreasonable to expect truthto be accounted
for by a single definition or necessary conditions (Sher, 2013), others state that theories of truth are
able to answer what it is for something to be true (Hack, 1978; Audi, 1988; Feldman, 2003).
The two main theories that will be analysed in this paper are the correspondence theory and the
coherence theory. Put simply, the former argues that a proposition is true if and only if it
corresponds or relates to facts, while the latter claims that for a proposition to be true it must
cohere with a set of beliefs (Walker, 1989).
While both theories are positioned as competing ideas about how it can be determined whether or
not a belief is true, the paper argues that the correspondence and coherence theories are insufficient
to explain the meaning of truth. Instead, the paper follows Strawson s performative theory and
claims that truth should be understood as an act of agreeing with or accepting a statement.
There are parameters to this paper. To keep the discussion relevant to the two main theories of truth,
the paper has excluded the pragmatic theory of truth and its claim that beliefs are

Visual Analysis of an Architectural Space The Cloisters The Cloisters Museum is unique in the
sense that you can walk into different rooms and automatically be in a different realm. It
transports locations that would ordinarily be great span away from each other, to, literally,
within walking distances. The FuentidueГ±a Chapel was one of these locations. Suddenly you
were no longer in a museum in Fort Tryon Park, but in the apse of a church of San Martin at
FuentidueГ±a in Spain. If the fairly large doorway to the room wasn t enough, stepping into the
room makes one feel so small and insignificant. The high ceiling and the large, spacious room
puts a person into perspective about their size compared to the rest of the world. The high
ceiling probably seeks to bring a church connection closer to that of the heavens and thus closer
to God. Because of the large, open space in this room, sound travels with ease from one end to
another, which must have made sermons and services easily heard. The high windows, or the
clerestory, bring the room a source of light, and bring about this sense of feeling far away from the
rest of the outside world. The right wall is lined with a painting of significant trials and events in
Jesuslife. Looking deeper into the room, attention is easily drawn towards a crowned Jesus on the
cross appearing to float in front of the detailed apse along with three smaller, thinner windows.

Immanuel Kant writes about good will and according to him, good will is very objective. He
states that the only thing that is undoubtedly good in the world is the good will itself. Other
qualities like wealth, intelligence and bravery, for example, are characteristics in a person that
can be used for good or evil. Good will, on the other hand, is unquestionably good because even
though it might not bring positive results at all times, the good will in itself was always there
and that person was driven by good and pure motivations all along regardless if the end result
was good or not. In addition, monetary compensation for a good action would not make a good
action pure because that person was motivated by external elements instead of his or her own

Throughout many forms of literature a common theme that can be seen across books is that no
matter how great and evil may be good will always triumph in the end. A similar case of this can
be seen in the Anglo Saxon Beowulf.
The foul monster Grendel is known for his bloodlust from hunting down those who resided within
the Herot; slaughtering them whenever the sun went down for more than a decade, but even Grendel
had something he feared. Even after the Herot was abandoned and desecrated by Grendel there
was one thing he would not defile. In the Herot sat Hrothgar the King of Danes throne which was
protected by God (Beowulf 82 85). Despite being far stronger than most mortals he feared the
possibility of incurring God s wrath if he harms the throne as Gods in many different cultures are
defined as almighty beings that no one or thing can defy. As such, harming the throne would be a
sign of aggression against not just Hrothgar but God as well. The mortal Beowulf came to slay
Grendel, but mortals should be weaker than monsters. Beowulf however had mentioned to the
warriors at the Herot that while he was swimming across a frozen sea with no more than a sword
he fought many sea creatures. Mentioning that there at the bottom of the sea; by morning they d
decided to sleep on the shore, lying on their backs, their blood spilling out (Beowulf 297 299).
Although Beowulf was a mortal and not close to a God, he is stronger than monster and able to
strike fear into them.

Supreme Court in the now legendary case of Roe v. Wade. When the legal battle was over, women
were granted the right to abortionin the second trimester, a right that continues to cause conflict
40 years later. The case ran from 1971 1973 and it got a heated debate started across the United
States. The topic of abortion had always been debated heavily but Roe v. Wade sparked a wave
