My Religious Upbringing. I Am A Member Of The Church Of
My Religious Upbringing I am a member of the Church of Christ. It is a non denominational church
that lives by the New Testament in the Holy Bible, and uses the Old Testament as a source of
reference. In simple terms, it s a belief that the new law is in place and the old law has been put away
with Jesus s crucifixion. In the Old Testament, it was a command to sacrifice something for the
forgiveness of sins. Now, with the ultimate sacrifice being given for our sins (Jesus s Life) we do not
have to sacrifice no more. Instead we learn and study God s word and obey his word. I was born in
Germany; my mother was a devout Christian raised in the Church of Christ. We did not go to church
over there because my mother did not find one that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While others may not believe the same as I do, I find with the studies of the scripture, I feel I am
going to a church that follows the New Testament to the best of its ability. Just like every human being
everything has its faults, but I still believe we are still going to work the rest of our lives to try and
obtain the perfection that Jesus Christ had. I really started studying the differences in churches at the
age of sixteen, but by the age of twenty I had slacked off and started to drift away from the church
because of the troubles I had brought on myself. This is also the reason I m in college at the age of
thirty two and not holding a degree in my hand yet. In this paper the directions wanted a comment on
organized religion, and that depends on the definition of what people interpret organized religion. I
have heard organized religion referred to as only denominational churches and as any church that
meets regularly. The contrast between the two meanings vary deeply. For instance, I am a member of a
non denominational church that meets regularly and to me it is an organized religion. It is a church
that has been set up years ago, that has its boundaries as to where it functions. I believe without my
church I would be a lost soul. It has given me a ground to live by and

The South China Sea
The South China Sea (S.C.S.) is one of the most politically tense and economically important areas in
the world today. Every year, $5.3 trillion of trade passes through the S.C.S $1.2 trillion of which
belongs to the US. The importance of the S.C.S. has led to increasingly strained tension as competing
territorial claims have sharpened over recent years. Tensions have developed over the PRC s vague
claim to the majority of the S.C.S. The so called nine dash line was originally laid down by the
Republic of China in 1947 as an eleven dash line has been the source of conflict in Southeast Asia for
some years. In 1974 the PRC seized part of the Paracels from South Vietnam, and in 1988 China and
Vietnam had a bloody clash over Johnson Reef. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The US, the regions historic de facto power, has a vital interest in maintain stability, specifically in
regards to the freedom of navigation and free trade. Though each major actor has its own goals and
agenda, the US has the most potential to ease tensions and establish a new regional dynamic that
encourages a unified ASEAN and responsible PRC. Within the PRC there is a strong sentiment that
now is China s time to take its place as a major actor in a new multipolar world. This is a key aspect of
Xi Jinping s China Dream and a growing pillar of party legitimacy as the Chinese economy slows and
matures. A key aspect for China to be perceived as a hub of power is to have the ability to assert its
interest in the region. As such, Chinese policy towards the S.C.S has been described as developing a
sphere of influence similar to the US in the Caribbean during the 19th and 20th century. The South
East Asian region would be economically interconnected through Chinese investment and
development, creating demand for Chinese goods and services. Politically, smaller states would have
the PRC as an advocate and China would insulate itself with friendly neighbors. In an effort to project
its growing role in the South East Asia the PRC has adopted a renewed and more provocative
approach to regional politics with more assertive stances on various disputed areas, including the nine
dash line. By claiming the vast majority of the S.C.S., or the land features in it, Beijing is

The Image Analysis Of Drakkar Nior
What more in the world is needed for you to buy my product? I, cooperate America, spend millions of
dollars a year in research and marketing to try to advertise my product directly to you by using a
variety of methods, the most prominent being Aristotle s ancient rhetorical appeals. In this image
analysis, I will be breaking down the thoughts of the marketing team at Drakkar Nior and explain who
their are targeting and what strategies they use to do so.
This brand Drakkar Nior was introduced in 1982 by by Guy Laroche. It is a part of the Pierre Wargnye
perfume company now manufactured by L Ore al. According to the New York Times is translates into
a flat bottomed Viking ship (Drakkar Nior Wikipedia). In July of 2014 the company created a new
advertisement.
The ad features a famous black muscular shirtless football, Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers,
player with a six pack and an intense facial expression. Cam is wearing shoulder pads in the
rectangular door shaped tunnel of what appears to be a sports facility, assuming it is a football
stadium, with a beam of light coming through. To the right there is a photo shopped bottle of the
product. The cologne is in a average, some could say manly, looking blue and black bottle in the shape
of a curved rectangle. The shade of blue and the black are the same colors as the Carolina Panthers

Late Nineteenth Century
In the late 1800 s, farmers believed that the railroad companies were strangling away their profits and
the government was in favor of big business thus justifying their feelings of discontent. . The farmers
had every right to be upset about their situation because the government saw a need for reform which
alludes to the fact that problems existed, the railroads had a monopoly on shipping which raised costs
and affected profit margins, the value of crops had deflated, and big business was hostile towards
farmers.
Documents A H reveal some of the problems that many farmers in the late nineteenth century (1880

Crops such as cotton and wheat, once the sustenance of the agriculture industry, were selling at prices
so low that it was nearly impossible for farmers to make a profit off them. Furthermore, improvement
in transportation made it easier for foreign competition to gain the upper hand, making it harder for
American farmers to dispose of extra crops that had accumulated. To do this, many railroads offered
rebates and drawbacks to larger shippers who used their rails. As a result of the agricultural
depression, many farm groups, most notably the Populist Party, arose to fight what farmers saw as the
reasons for the decline in agriculture. The railroads regularly used rebates and drawbacks to help win
the business of large shippers, and made up this loss in profit by increasing the cost to smaller shippers
such as farmers. However, in many ways, the railroads hurt small shippers and farmers. During the
last twenty years of the nineteenth century, many farmers in the United States saw monopolies and
trusts, railroads, and money shortages and the loss in value of silver as threats to their way of life,
though in many cases their complaints were not valid. Finally, years of drought in the Midwest and the
downward spiral of business in the 1890 s devastated many of the nation s farmers. Thus, the farmers
of the late nineteenth century had a valid complaint against railroad shippers, for these farmers were
hurt by the unfair practices

How Stressful Life Experiences Affect A Child s Emotional...
This annotated bibliography covers six journal, reports and articles associated with the subject of how
stressful life experiences can affect a child s emotional development, what role the schools play in a
child s emotional development and how there is a need for the Department of Education to
commission a sector body to develop a framework of core content for initial teacher training (ITT),
which should include child and adolescent development.
A child s emotional development is a complex, multifaceted process and one which many interaction
partners play a role. To teach effectively, trainee teachers need to understand child development
expectations at different stages of development together with issues that can have an impact on the
child s progress.
The research literature has accentuated the association between stressful experiences and
psychological dysfunction in children and evidence has been found which suggests that there is a need
for continuity across Initial teacher training institutes. ITT should be an environment for new teachers
to learn from the best teachers, introducing them to essential skills, knowledge and understanding that
all teachers require in order to continuously improve the opportunities and outcomes of young people.
The authors of this study compared the judgements of trainee teachers with the responses of young
children regarding their perceptions of student stress. The study compiled questions such as: Does

The Miners Strike 1984 Essay
Throughout the century British coal had become increasingly costly and difficult to mine.
Nationalization in 1948 had not altered this. Indeed, there was a case for saying that lack of
government investment since that date had added to the problem. For some time Britain had been
importing coal from abroad. With the exception of few pits producing particular types of coal, British
mines by the 1970s were running at loss. When Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister the first
thing she wanted to do was limit union power. She felt that union power applied to nationalized
industrial monopolies resulted in poor service at exorbitant cost to the taxpayers. She pointed to
inefficient work practices, over employment and restrictive employment ... Show more content on

Thatcher reduced trade union power. She was helped also by rapidly rising unemployment which
acted as a major disincentive to many going on strike or pressing to hard for higher wages. The trigger
for Britain s most bitter industrial dispute of recent times was the announcement that one Yorkshire
pit, Cortonwood near Barnsley, was to close, all over Yorkshire walked out, not realising that it would
be a year before they returned. Whereas previous coal strikes had been over in a matter of weeks, this
time both union and government dug in for a lengthy battle. In the end, the biggest losers were
ordinary miners. However there was a strong counter argument advanced by the miners union and the
other analysts. They suggested that with a proper investment programme backed by a genuine
government commitment to coal as a long term power source, large parts of the British coal industry
still had a profitable future. The social consequences of widespread pit closures would be catastrophic.
The impact of the strike was much wider than just in the mining industry and the regions: the scenes
of violence between strikes and police regularly seen on television shocked the nation and divided
public opinion. Polls suggested that 65% of the people supported the government and the police 35%
of the miners. social commentators suggested that the violent clashes that frequently accompanied the
strike stimulated a general strike

Poem And Similes And Annotation In Ode To Books
Ode to Books Annotation:
I used similes and metaphors such as open the cover like a curtain rising and darkness of night
slaughtering the night of day in order to make the poem more vivid and to completely express how
much I enjoy books and how much of an escape they are for me. I also repeated the word Books with
a capitalized B in order to emphasize the word and the idea that follows. My use of free verse allows
the poem to be read with a specific tone and rhythm.
This poem relates to my coming of age because I ve always been an avid reader. From when I was

verbs to use in my writing. I also believe that writing poetry has allowed me to better connect
emotionally with my writing. All in all, I think that writing poetry has made me a better writer in many
ways, but I guess we ll see if that s true when I get my next essay grade. You may not care, but I ll tell

Essay on New London Eminent Domain
Justice Stevens believes that is it the right of the government for taking land from private owners
under eminent domain and using that land for public use. Steven believes that eminent domain is
constitutional as long as the public welfare is increased such as increasing tax and other revenues and
stimulating a troubled city. New London was an economically insufficient city compared to the
averages in Connecticut. He believed that making the city more attractive was making good use of the
Takings Clause in the U.S. Constitution. He also thinks that the city carefully constructed a plan in
order to benefit the community rather than hinder it. Overall, Stevens believes that by helping and
benefiting the city New London should follow their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors of these majority and minority opinions are quite different. Steven believes that making a
city more attractive and profitable is worth using eminent domain while O Connor believes that it
makes every home and business be put in jeopardy for an unnecessary use of overused power.
Although both agree that in some instances eminent domain is appropriate, they disagree on this
particular case of the New London community. Before I began to read this case I made my own
assumptions about eminent domain. Although I believe that it is not alright for eminent domain to be
applied to all cases, I do believe that eminent domain is necessary in this case. The city was very
apparently deteriorating and it is part of the cities job to make the community appealing again. Like it
was stated, the population has not been as low as 24,000 residents since 1920. That was over 50 years
ago. I may not always agree with using eminent domain in all instances but to make a city more
profitable and more appealing to residents seems to me like a good use of property. Just compensation
is something I may have a problem with. From what I have heard, the government does not always

The Impact Of Wal Mart On The Labor Market

This paper is a meta analysis of five different papers on the effect of Wal Mart stores in urban and
rural counties of USA. It also tries to find some valuable information about the wage and employment
level in those counties and also in the adjacent and non adjacent counties. Also, the paper discusses
about the increase and decrease in the number of small retail stores in the counties where Wal Mart is

This eventually forces the local small retailers to go out of business or to move their business where
there is no competition from big box retail stores such as Walmart.
The employees of the small retail stores, who got unemployed because of the closing of the stores,
will be able to find jobs at the newly opened Walmart. But, the data does suggest that the employment
do increase in the first year of the opening of Walmart but it starts declining in the subsequent years.
Also, the retail space that will be left by the outgoing stores will now be available to other business
and industries in which Walmart doesn t compete directly such as automobile dealerships, restaurant
business, etc.
Also, the employees that will be hired by the newly opened Walmart will be working on an average of
28 hours per week. So, they will be working part time job where as previously they were able to work
full time in small retail stores. Also, there is a lot of criticism that Walmart doesn t pay good wages to
its employees and according to some research it comes out to be between $7 8 per hour which is in
range of other competing big box retail stores like K mart, Target, etc.
There is also criticism that entry of Walmart in a particular community increases the poverty rate as
well. Because, of the closing of the small retail businesses, the unemployed workers will be relying on
the government to provide them with the necessary monetary support

Literary Devices In Donald Barthelme s The School
In the short story The School, written by Donald Barthelme, many different literary devices are being
utilize like order of events, phraseology, point of view etc. The literary device that stands out the most
in the short story The School is point of view. Barthelme uses point of view by making the teacher the
story teller which gives the story a different mood than it would if it was told from a distinct
perspective. Point of view is a position or perspective from which something is considered or
evaluated (Merriam Webster, n.d.)Barthelme s use of point of view leads to the interpretation of the
story in a totally unusual way which makes the story much less creepy than it should be.
The author of The School grabs the reader s attention at the beginning of the short story by using the
narrator s story, about the time when the children planted trees to teach them about growth, nature and
responsibility. All the kids had to plant their own little tree, but all the little trees ended dying, and as a
result they ended with little brown sticks instead. By using the word little when expressing the trees
and later the sticks the author is trying to convey a mood of depression and sensitivity. Barthelme is
trying to portray the image of a lot of small kids sad for the death of their small trees. The narrator
then proceeds to explain how before all the trees died all the snakes had died too due to a strike which
resulted on the boiler being off for days. The kids understood

Mental Illness And The Barriers For Physical Activity
Mental illness and the barriers for physical activity: Why is motivation a major limitation?
Introduction
Improvement in quality of life for people suffering from mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar
disorder and major depression) has recently been shown to have a correlation with increased levels of
physical activity (1). Treatment approaches have begun to favor increased levels of physical activity to
assist in symptom management as well as emerging evidence for an improvement in physiology (1). A
major barrier for this approach however, is the motivation of people suffering from mental illness to
participate in increased levels of physical activity. When compared to the general population, people
suffering from mental illness have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, strategies to improve motivation for physical activity for mental illness patients is
limited. The aim of this study is to determine the major intrinsic barriers for physical activity in
patients with mental illness through interview and questionnaire to determine the levels of self
efficacy, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation and readiness for physical activity. A cognitive behavioral
approach will be adopted to further understand the motivational barriers which present themselves and
to provide guidance to promoting physical activity through a mental health care unit.
Current research for motivation towards physical activity is largely based on the general population or
for patients who are suffering from cardiovascular disease with studies that include a motivational
aspect which is not being based on the application to a theory (5). The application of a theory for
motivation for physical activity in mental illness may assist in enhancing the participation in physical
activity and ultimately improve the quality of life for patients suffering from a mental illness.
However, for a theory to be developed, barriers to physical activity must be identified to ensure the
efficacy of any developed or pre existing theory that may be applied. The utilization of Grounded
Theory in this research will assist in determining the appropriateness of current theories or the
development of a new theory to enhance the motivation for physical

Gun Violence Policy
According to the lecture on Gun Violence, there are currently over 300 million guns in the possession
of private citizen. Americans have over 75 guns per 100 people, whereas other western countries range
from 5 to 30 guns per 100 people (2007 small arms survey). Gun violence is a major issue in the
United States due to lack of gun control. The lack of gun control makes handguns too readily available
to citizens, allows those who should not own a firearm the ability to purchase firearms, and no policy
on secure storage of firearms. As a result, I conclude that a combination of restriction of private
ownership of handguns and stricter background check and storage policy would eliminate some of the
violence caused by guns. To decrease gun violence

Essay On Dante s Inferno
See no Evil. Hear no Evil. Do no Evil.
Trapped up to his waist in ice, Dante s Satan with his warped wings pushes freezing gusts of air
throughout the caverns of the ninth circle of hell. With him, the worst of all sinners are warped into
fantastical shapes while encased in the frigid ice. They are the betrayers of love, the godly ideal of
voluntary benefaction, and now must spend eternity without warmth or light. Nothing is felt; by being
a traitor to their state or their benefactor, they have lost their right to God s love, condemned in the
center of the Earth.
I admire Satan in this situation the rejected angel thrown deep into Hell because of his power over his
realm. His wings freeze the ice and trap both him and the sinners within it, and his heads, a warped
holy trinity, continually chew on the three apparently worst humans in history: Judas, Cassius, and
Brutus. Thrust into this duty of penultimate torturer, Satan delivers the worst treatment of all of the
sins because he too is deserving of it. The power of reciprocal judgment would be the greatest way to
force me to become a perfect human. With this, I would be willing to give up my sense of touch, as
those surrounding Satan must also do. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Affordable Care Act Research Paper

11 September 2017
The road to the Affordable Care Act has been difficult and extensive based on past health reform
attempts by previous administrations. You can date back to the Truman administration after World War
II, this was an initial attempt to increase healthcare accessibility. President Truman proposed universal
health insurance, but Congress didn t pass the Bill. President Eisenhower didn t make efforts for
universal health insurance like his predecessor, but his administration made slight health reform
proposals such as funding healthcare for military dependents and health insurance benefits for social
security dependents. The Kennedy Administrations laid the framework for Medicare by ... Show more

During this time, Senator Kennedy made the first attempt since the Kennedy Administration to make
efforts towards a major health reform. President Nixon s National Health Insurance Act was in
competition in Congress with Senator Kennedy s Health Security Act. The Health Security Act would
be like Medicare for All financed by a federal single payer. This program would end the need for
premiums and private health insurance. The Health Security act didn t make it far in Congress, but it
was good to resurface the topic of universal health insurance since the Truman Administration.
(Markel, 2015)
The Watergate Scandal of the 1970 s consumed most of the Ford Administrations efforts, so little was
done under the administration towards health reform. Luckily, the Carter Administration brought back
the idea of universal healthcare and the American Medical Association slightly began to support the
idea for the first time. Due to the United States being in a recession at the time, Congress didn t give
President Carter s plan much attention. The economic issues the United States faced caused the
Reagan administration to not make any progress towards a major health reform as well. President
Regan actually went in the opposite direction and cut a lot of government funding on healthcare; those
cuts mainly affected physician and hospital reimbursements. However, the Regan Administration
passed the Medicare Catastrophic Act through Congress, which expanded Medicare benefits

My First Opportunity At The Pediatric Service With...
My first opportunity to work with children was during my second year pediatrics rotation, where I
grew to love the specialty. It gave me a chance to interact with age groups ranging from neonates to
adolescents, each with their own unique set of conditions. I vividly remember an eight year old who
was admitted to the pediatric service with congestive heart failure. During my first interview with her,
she was very scared and shy. Upon further discussions with her mother, I realized that she associated
my white lab coat with injections and pain. The next time I met the girl, I went without my white coat.
She was more cheerful and it was easier to gather her problem history. I realized that earning a patient
s trust is the key and to do so, I must empathize with them and creatively address their concerns. This
requires verbal as well as nonverbal listening skills and patience. Overall, it was a truly satisfying
experience, to make her feel comfortable, understand her issues and provide her the care she needed.
During my clinical rotations in the medical school, I was able to treat many sick children with
different diseases. Nursing them to health and working with their families was not only emotionally
satisfying but also helped me to appreciate the diverse components involved in pediatrics. Working in
various outreach programs, including school medical checks, tuberculosis clinics, and the Pulse Polio
Campaign helped me involved in community health at a primary level. I used

Analysis Of Lucy By Jamaica Kincaid
In Lucy, Jamaica Kincaid explores the disillusionment faced by the eponymous character upon
immigrating to the United States. The novel s style of narration allows Lucy s thoughts and emotions
to remain hidden. Despite this intense privacy, Lucy s disillusionment is clear. She had hoped that
moving around the globe would solve her problems but she still struggles with homesickness and her
relationship with her mother. Her move is disappointing. The erasure poem And Coldest also engages
disillusionment. The poem suggests the speaker has become disillusioned by observing the world, and
indicates their plan to be shut tight. The poem inspired me to consider the causes of Lucy s
disillusionment, and her failure to address her own emotions. As a recent immigrant, the causes of
Lucy s disillusionment are somewhat obvious. More enigmatic is her self avoidant, shut tight attitude.
In this paper, I argue that Lucy s disillusionment causes her to avoid the discomfort that comes with
self reflection.
Lucy s experience in the United States is dissatisfactory from the moment of her arrival onwards. She
describes her first night as gray black and cold and notes that no one told her January would be cold
(Kincaid 3 5). This comment marks the intensity of Lucy s transition. And Coldest, too, opens with an
unforgiving winter. The first lines, cold, and coldest, reflect not only the season but Lucy s experience
of it she has never experienced a night so cold. The unfamiliar season

Four Seasons Research Paper
The Four Seasons are known as Solar Festivals, in that they mark a seasonal change caused by the
Sun. The cross quarter days are marked by Fire Festivals and are usually celebrated as significant
agricultural festivals. Together the Solar Festivals and the Fire Festivals make up the Wheel of the
Year. The Wheel Of The Year, is often broken into eight festivals, whether they are the eight Asatru
Blots, Seasonal Festivals or Celtic Sabbats, and the observance of Solar energies at the solstices and
equinoxes and the Fire energies on the cross quarter days, is a common theme throughout the world.
The Festivals of the Wheel of the Year also represent the active and dormant states of nature, man and
agriculture. Each of the festival days was ruled by a governing deity, whether a God or Goddess, with
each region having its own associated deity. From planting to reaping to winter to summer... the
seasons were of great importance to our ancestors, for their very existence depended upon good
harvests, mild winters, and enough rainfall.
Our days start at sundown on the previous day. Therefore, November 1 is actually the night of October

Pros And Cons Of Robots
Robots are becoming more and more advanced. As employers implement more automation, it is likely
that many will lose their jobs to a robot. Robots have already been employed in many industries
successfully especially in manufacturing. This automation improves the productivity in manufacturing
and in effect, reduces the costs to make products. Manufacturing jobs now populated by people have
many Musculoskeletal disease risk factors. With the application of robots, workers will not have to put
themselves at risk for personal injury caused by MSD s. Research shows that repetitive work can
cause musculoskeletal diseases in humans, but fortunately, robots are starting to acquire the tedious,
manual labor jobs that enhance these diseases more; therefore, robots are seen as an ethical
improvement to job safety and wellness. Musculoskeletal diseases are the leading cause of disability
in the United States. MSD s are diseases that affect the muscles, bones, and any connecting tissue ,
and they cause chronic pains and mobility issues. In the workforce, there are MSD risk factors that
contribute to the onset or advancement of MSD s. They include heavy lifting, rapidly and or
repeatedly doing the same tasks, awkward positions, vibrations, bodily impacts, etc.[1]. There are
many occupations that put workers at risk for MSD s especially labor intensive jobs. The pain and
immobility that can be caused by MSD s lower the quality of life of occupants and cause reduced

Eventually the liquid was drained, mixed with lye, molded into cakes, dried, and pounded into
powder.
Dyers could then mix that powder with water and other substances in soaking vats to get the exact
purpley blue shade they wanted.
India probably cultivated the original commercial supply of Old World indigo that worked it s way
around European trade routes during the Greco Roman era.
The so called blue gold later became culturally important and highly desired throughout Europe,
Japan, and West Africa, before eventually making it s way to the American colonies, where its
cultivation and trade helped fund the Revolutionary War effort.
Around the turn of 20th century synthetic indigo dye came on scene and decimated the natural dye
market. Today most commercial operations use the synthetic indigo, although environmental concerns
have reignited an interest in natural, sustainable dyes.
Okay, so what does any of this have to do with Newton, you ask?
Well, you may recall that in the mid 17th century, apple loving Isaac discovered the visible spectrum

Sacrifice In Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallow
In today s world, there are many people ready to make sacrifices. Some are doing it for their country,
and some for their family and friends. The definition of sacrifice according to Webster s dictionary is
an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a
divine or supernatural figure. People today do not tend to go by the same definition as others, every
person has their own meaning of sacrifice. To me, a sacrifice is something that everyone should be
willing to make on a daily basis without the fear of death. If people stop making sacrifices, then why
should we expect our soldiers to make sacrifices for us at the border?
One of the finest examples of sacrifice was shown in a film, London has Fallen. In this film all the
world leaders were going to gather for a meeting in the Bellingham Palace. During the event terrorists
attacked the place. The life of the President of the United States was in jeopardy. To safeguard the
president, the US soldiers used an airlift to haul the President to a ... Show more content on

Voldemort has his own evil army, while Harry only has his friends and school professor. During the
film, when Harry and his friends were losing, Voldemort declared, give me Harry Potter and I shall set
you all free. Since Harry had lost most of his friends and professors in the war, he decided to sacrifice
his life to save his friends. This is an example of sacrificing to save your loved ones.
All in all, when a true sacrifice is made, it is usually made to protect one s country or loved ones.
Sacrifice will not always bring happiness to society, but sometimes it is necessary for some honorable
man or woman to make a sacrifice to keep others safe. The people who make this type of sacrifice will
most likely receive a lot of love from others and will be remembered in

Remember The Titans Quotes
Remember The Titans Coach Yoast:
In the movie Remember the Titans by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, there are two main coaches
that are involved with a mixed race football team from T. C. Williams High School. In the start of the
movie Coach Yoast was a happy man coaching a good team. Then came along a black coach called
Coach boon and took his job. There were some arguments throughout the movie and then Coach Yoast
had to accept he was going to have to work with this man.
In the movie Remember the Titans by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, there are two main coaches
that are involved with a mixed race football team from T. C. Williams High School. In the start of my
essay I will be talking about when these two coaches meet. Then I will talk about how one coach loses
his job and the other takes over. In the 3rd paragraph I will talk about how those two work together.
Then in my final paragraph I will talk about the championship game.
When these two first met, Coach Yoast didn t know that he was going to lose his job to coach Boone.
The school board may have put you on my team, but I did not hire you this is what coach Yoast first
says to Boone. This shows that even though Coach Boone will be working alongside him, Yoast didn t

Summary Of Children Of God s Fire Essay
The Lives of Rural Slaves in Brazilian Sugar Plantations
Throughout the 16th century, as there was a demographic collapse of the indigenous population, there
was now a new demand for slave labor in Latin America. In Brazil, the Portuguese needed a large
workforce to cultivate sugar plantations. As a result, numerous slaves from Africa were imported to
work on large plantation fields. In various plantations, rural slaves experienced harsh working and
living conditions. Few slaves had a high life expectancy. Robert Edgar Conrad in Children of God s
Fire, shares some primary sources that dealt with the types of environments and conditions many
slaves faced and encountered in Brazil. The sources also gave insight into the regulations and
economics/business of the slave trade. Conrad states that rural Brazil was a hell for blacks (Conrad
54). Many slaves dealt with extremely harsh conditions just to keep the European market in Latin
American growing and profitable. This paper will analyze how rural slaves lived and worked on
Brazilian sugar plantations. To start, in Brazil the Portuguese become convinced that full scale
exploitation of the land was imperative for the safety of their entire overseas empire. Sugar cultivation
was the ideal crop to guarantee the existence of a profitable colony. As a result, the Portuguese
dominated the Atlantic slave trade. Various slaves from different parts of Africa were brought to Brazil
and experienced difficult working and in living

The Relationships Between Cities And Professional Sports...
The relationships between cities and professional sports teams is a complex one that is fraught with
many misgivings. Civic pride is a sign of community strength and solidarity, consequently it goes
hand in hand with pride for local sports teams. In the city of Oakland there have traditionally been the
Oakland Raiders (an NFL team), the Golden State Warriors (and NBA team whose city ties are
ambiguous), and the Oakland Athletics. Recently two of these teams have committed to leaving the
city of Oakland for supposedly greener pastures in Las Vegas and across the bay in San Francisco.

What they find is that many people have a budget for entertainment and therefore money spent at a
sporting event is money that would otherwise have been spent at some other entertainment outlet in
the city. They call this phenomena the substitution effect and accordingly, it is now included in most
all stadium development proposals. In Oakland the situation is no different. While many Oakland A s
fans do hail from municipalities outside of Oakland, the Bay Area as a whole is quite mobile in
particular when it comes to entertainment. These non Oakland residents may be going out to eat or
drink in Oakland instead of going to a ball game therefore the substitution effect would render the new
stadiums impact rather minimal. At the present time the Bay Area is already plagued with traffic and
public transportation issues as the population has outgrown the systems currently in place. The Peralta

Kettle Moraine State Park Essay
The experiment was conducted in Sheboygan County at three locations of varying distance from Lake
Michigan, where they were surveyed for the occurrence of the invasive tree species black locust. The
first location, Kettle Moraine State Park, is located 20 miles inland west of Lake Michigan. As its
name suggests, this location has a combination of kettles and moraines. Kettles are steep side
impressions in a landscape while moraines are linear deposits that accumulated at the edge of an ice
sheet. This creates a rolling hill landscape that can create quite the diversity of vegetation. This site
was dominated by mostly sugar maple with the occasional red oak and birch. There was very little

What made this location different than the other two locations was that it was set on private land rather
than public land. The vegetation was dominated by sugar maple, with more red oaks than in the first
site. The canopy was not as closed as the first location but still consisted of coverage of about 90%.
Pleasant Mile Woods had less foot traffic than that of the Kettle Moraine State Park, being that it is a
private land, and had more wind than the previous location due to the increase in farmland
surrounding the patch of woods. The final location, Kohler Andrae State Natural Area, is right off the
shore of Lake Michigan and the part of the site which was surveyed was the woody area off of Black
River Trail. Once again, this area was heavily shaded and dominated with sugar maple. This site had
the most foot traffic due to the occurrence of more trails and surrounding lakeside suburbs along with
having more wind than the other two locations. At each of the locations, square quadrats of 10 meters
in length were sampled using a stratified random sampling technique. At each location, a total of 25
quadrats were analyzed leading to a total of 75 total

Paley s Argument For Intelligent Design
Paley s Argument For Intelligent Design and Its Criticisms Paley s teleological argument defends the
idea of the existence of god through the idea of consistent and orderly design. Paley uses an example
of finding a rock on the ground and then finding a watch. He argues that finding the watch, with all of
its perfectly fit working parts, suggests an intelligent creator. In his argument, the watch is employed as
an analogy for the universe. He states that the universe and all of its working complexities points to
the existence of an intelligent creator. There are several alternant and contradicting beliefs to Paley s
assertions. Some call into question the validity of the analogy itself. Others say it is an incredibly far
jump to assert the existence of a god through the universe since the universe and its workings are so
undiscovered by humanity. Paley addresses many of these alternant arguments in his essay. ... Show

This the argument was in reference to the analogy that the watch was the same as the universe. Some
came to the conclusion that since it was an unseen event which created the universe, one cannot and
should not make a conclusive statement about its origin. Paley attempts to debunk this argument by
stating that regardless of the fact that the actual physical making of the universe was not witnessed,
there is still a physical universe that is evidence for its origin. He says that there should be no doubt of
the universes artist because his existence is easily inferred through the complexity of the universes

Immigration In The United States Essay
In the New York Times article Here s the Reality About Illegal Immigrants in the United States, the
authors discuss the current political climate surrounding immigration, as well as the false perceptions
associated with undocumented immigration in the United States. Additionally, the authors attempt to
break down the false narrative surrounding illegal immigration by demonstrating that the
overwhelming majority of undocumented immigrants are law abiding, hardworking migrants fleeing
strife in hope of new opportunity. Since the beginning of the Trump administration, an increasing
feeling of uncertainty has developed and for the 11 million undocumented immigrants across the
United States, fear and insecurity has set in. Sentence on Christian ... Show more content on

The blessings listed in The Beatitudes exemplify the importance and the moral obligation Americans
have towards immigrants fleeing injustice. For example, Jesus proclaims, Blessed are the merciful, for
they will receive mercy (Mathew 5:7). The countless individuals who are fleeing arms traffickers,
gang violence and poverty, most of which are women and children, must be met with mercy (Yee,
Davis, Patel 2017). For many migrants, the United States is the deciding factor in their chance at
receiving mercy. The United States must approach immigration with mercy, compassion, and empathy,
not with antagonism and hostility. The authors of the article give a merciful description of immigrants
as, families and workers, taking the jobs nobody else wants, staying out of trouble, here only to earn
their way to better, safer lives for themselves and their children (Yee, Davis, Patel 2017). This
visualization of immigration is the more humane approach the United States government must take.
On the contrary, the current White House administration perceives undocumented immigrants as
pariahs, criminals who menace American neighborhoods, take American jobs, sap American resources
and exploit American generosity (Yee, Davis, Patel

The Exciting Life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
According to Alison M. Lewis who wrote Arthur Conan Doyle: A Life in Letters, he married a woman
named Louisa Hawkins in 1885. Twelve years later he fell in love with another lady named Jean
Elizabeth Leckie, but out of respect for his wife he kept their relationship friendly and nothing more.
Bittersweetly for Doyle, Loiusa died of tuberculosis in 1906. The next year he was wed to Jean and
they stayed together until her death in 1940 (Lewis 114). Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also had five
children in his lifetime. According to June Sawyers, the writer of Arthur Conan Doyle: A Life In
Letters, his first wife birthed two of his children and Jean Elizabeth Leckie had the other three. Mary
Louise was his first child, born in 1889, then Kingsley was born three years later. His second wife had
their first child in 1909, named Denis Percy Stewart, who married a Georgian Princess later in his life.
The other children were named Adrian Malcolm and Jean Lena Annette (Sawyers 14). Through all the
stresses of family and work, Doyle wanted to eliminate Sherlock Holmes from his busy schedule.
According to Theodore Dalrymple who wrote The Eternal Detective, Doyle had his own medical
practice set up in London, but no patients ever came. He would write while waiting for customers. He
eventually became tired of writing and wanted to kill off Sherlock Holmes because the character was
distracting him from more important issues. In 1893 he wrote The Final Problem where Holmes

convenient, friendly and exciting Kohl s is a business that ends up providing a good amount of
different products as well as services to communities that are based on low and middle class

Kohl s has basically everything you can possibly need all located in one store providing products such

In James Loewen s book, Lies My Teacher Told Me, he talks about misconceptions in America school

history when details or whole event are untold? Lowen delves into these deep topics head on and gives
examples as he goes. This book is not only intended for those who have read an American history
book, but for those who have never heard the truth. Lowen wrote this book in order to uncover and

The American school systems has always made it seem as if slavery was widely frowned upon, but
that was not the case. Northerners felt that, ... black people were so hopelessly inferior that slavery
was a proper form of education for them... (Lowen 144). Huge shocker here, like we understood that
the north was jealous of the southern economy, but never thought they would agree with slavery.
Lowen uncovers what the textbooks missed, which makes the American society look as if we are just
terrible people. Growing up, the American population has always heard the phrase big brother is
watching but did we know to what extent they involved themselves and their attempts to hide things?
The government is always trying to make America seem as if we are just this great place that cares
about everyone; furthermore, this has been called the good guy interpretation . In recent textbooks, it
is claimed that the United States is the most generous nation and that we provide aid to anyone who
needs it, unfortunately this is false. There are other eastern countries that donate much larger amounts
to foreign aid. Why would these textbooks make a false claim? This is the U.S. trying to be something
it s not in order to draw appeal to the United States. The textbooks have given light to some sensitive
subjects such as plots to assassinate other world leaders, but these textbooks still find every motive

  • 2. My Religious Upbringing. I Am A Member Of The Church Of My Religious Upbringing I am a member of the Church of Christ. It is a non denominational church that lives by the New Testament in the Holy Bible, and uses the Old Testament as a source of reference. In simple terms, it s a belief that the new law is in place and the old law has been put away with Jesus s crucifixion. In the Old Testament, it was a command to sacrifice something for the forgiveness of sins. Now, with the ultimate sacrifice being given for our sins (Jesus s Life) we do not have to sacrifice no more. Instead we learn and study God s word and obey his word. I was born in Germany; my mother was a devout Christian raised in the Church of Christ. We did not go to church over there because my mother did not find one that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While others may not believe the same as I do, I find with the studies of the scripture, I feel I am going to a church that follows the New Testament to the best of its ability. Just like every human being everything has its faults, but I still believe we are still going to work the rest of our lives to try and obtain the perfection that Jesus Christ had. I really started studying the differences in churches at the age of sixteen, but by the age of twenty I had slacked off and started to drift away from the church because of the troubles I had brought on myself. This is also the reason I m in college at the age of thirty two and not holding a degree in my hand yet. In this paper the directions wanted a comment on organized religion, and that depends on the definition of what people interpret organized religion. I have heard organized religion referred to as only denominational churches and as any church that meets regularly. The contrast between the two meanings vary deeply. For instance, I am a member of a non denominational church that meets regularly and to me it is an organized religion. It is a church that has been set up years ago, that has its boundaries as to where it functions. I believe without my church I would be a lost soul. It has given me a ground to live by and ... • 3. The South China Sea The South China Sea (S.C.S.) is one of the most politically tense and economically important areas in the world today. Every year, $5.3 trillion of trade passes through the S.C.S $1.2 trillion of which belongs to the US. The importance of the S.C.S. has led to increasingly strained tension as competing territorial claims have sharpened over recent years. Tensions have developed over the PRC s vague claim to the majority of the S.C.S. The so called nine dash line was originally laid down by the Republic of China in 1947 as an eleven dash line has been the source of conflict in Southeast Asia for some years. In 1974 the PRC seized part of the Paracels from South Vietnam, and in 1988 China and Vietnam had a bloody clash over Johnson Reef. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The US, the regions historic de facto power, has a vital interest in maintain stability, specifically in regards to the freedom of navigation and free trade. Though each major actor has its own goals and agenda, the US has the most potential to ease tensions and establish a new regional dynamic that encourages a unified ASEAN and responsible PRC. Within the PRC there is a strong sentiment that now is China s time to take its place as a major actor in a new multipolar world. This is a key aspect of Xi Jinping s China Dream and a growing pillar of party legitimacy as the Chinese economy slows and matures. A key aspect for China to be perceived as a hub of power is to have the ability to assert its interest in the region. As such, Chinese policy towards the S.C.S has been described as developing a sphere of influence similar to the US in the Caribbean during the 19th and 20th century. The South East Asian region would be economically interconnected through Chinese investment and development, creating demand for Chinese goods and services. Politically, smaller states would have the PRC as an advocate and China would insulate itself with friendly neighbors. In an effort to project its growing role in the South East Asia the PRC has adopted a renewed and more provocative approach to regional politics with more assertive stances on various disputed areas, including the nine dash line. I, cooperate America, spend millions of dollars a year in research and marketing to try to advertise my product directly to you by using a variety of methods, the most prominent being Aristotle s ancient rhetorical appeals. In this image analysis, I will be breaking down the thoughts of the marketing team at Drakkar Nior and explain who their are targeting and what strategies they use to do so. This brand Drakkar Nior was introduced in 1982 by by Guy Laroche. It is a part of the Pierre Wargnye perfume company now manufactured by L Ore al. According to the New York Times is translates into a flat bottomed Viking ship (Drakkar Nior Wikipedia). In July of 2014 the company created a new advertisement. The ad features a famous black muscular shirtless football, Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers, player with a six pack and an intense facial expression. Cam is wearing shoulder pads in the rectangular door shaped tunnel of what appears to be a sports facility, assuming it is a football stadium, with a beam of light coming through. To the right there is a photo shopped bottle of the product. • 5. Late Nineteenth Century In the late 1800 s, farmers believed that the railroad companies were strangling away their profits and the government was in favor of big business thus justifying their feelings of discontent. . The farmers had every right to be upset about their situation because the government saw a need for reform which alludes to the fact that problems existed, the railroads had a monopoly on shipping which raised costs and affected profit margins, the value of crops had deflated, and big business was hostile towards farmers. Documents A H reveal some of the problems that many farmers in the late nineteenth century (1880 1900) saw as threats to their way of life. Crops such as cotton and wheat, once the sustenance of the agriculture industry, were selling at prices so low that it was nearly impossible for farmers to make a profit off them. Furthermore, improvement in transportation made it easier for foreign competition to gain the upper hand, making it harder for American farmers to dispose of extra crops that had accumulated. To do this, many railroads offered rebates and drawbacks to larger shippers who used their rails. As a result of the agricultural depression, many farm groups, most notably the Populist Party, arose to fight what farmers saw as the reasons for the decline in agriculture. The railroads regularly used rebates and drawbacks to help win the business of large shippers, and made up this loss in profit by increasing the cost to smaller shippers such as farmers. However, in many ways, the railroads hurt small shippers and farmers. During the last twenty years of the nineteenth century, many farmers in the United States saw monopolies and trusts, railroads, and money shortages and the loss in value of silver as threats to their way of life, though in many cases their complaints were not valid. Finally, years of drought in the Midwest and the downward spiral of business in the 1890 s devastated many of the nation s farmers. Thus, the farmers of the late nineteenth century had a valid complaint against railroad shippers, for these farmers were hurt by the unfair practices ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Stressful Life Experiences Affect A Child s Emotional... This annotated bibliography covers six journal, reports and articles associated with the subject of how stressful life experiences can affect a child s emotional development, what role the schools play in a child s emotional development and how there is a need for the Department of Education to commission a sector body to develop a framework of core content for initial teacher training (ITT), which should include child and adolescent development. A child s emotional development is a complex, multifaceted process and one which many interaction partners play a role. To teach effectively, trainee teachers need to understand child development expectations at different stages of development together with issues that can have an impact on the child s progress. The research literature has accentuated the association between stressful experiences and psychological dysfunction in children and evidence has been found which suggests that there is a need for continuity across Initial teacher training institutes. ITT should be an environment for new teachers to learn from the best teachers, introducing them to essential skills, knowledge and understanding that all teachers require in order to continuously improve the opportunities and outcomes of young people. The authors of this study compared the judgements of trainee teachers with the responses of young children regarding their perceptions of student stress. • 7. The Miners Strike 1984 Essay Throughout the century British coal had become increasingly costly and difficult to mine. Nationalization in 1948 had not altered this. Indeed, there was a case for saying that lack of government investment since that date had added to the problem. For some time Britain had been importing coal from abroad. With the exception of few pits producing particular types of coal, British mines by the 1970s were running at loss. When Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister the first thing she wanted to do was limit union power. She felt that union power applied to nationalized industrial monopolies resulted in poor service at exorbitant cost to the taxpayers. She pointed to inefficient work practices, over employment and restrictive employment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thatcher reduced trade union power. She was helped also by rapidly rising unemployment which acted as a major disincentive to many going on strike or pressing to hard for higher wages. The trigger for Britain s most bitter industrial dispute of recent times was the announcement that one Yorkshire pit, Cortonwood near Barnsley, was to close, all over Yorkshire walked out, not realising that it would be a year before they returned. Whereas previous coal strikes had been over in a matter of weeks, this time both union and government dug in for a lengthy battle. In the end, the biggest losers were ordinary miners. However there was a strong counter argument advanced by the miners union and the other analysts. They suggested that with a proper investment programme backed by a genuine government commitment to coal as a long term power source, large parts of the British coal industry still had a profitable future. The social consequences of widespread pit closures would be catastrophic. The impact of the strike was much wider than just in the mining industry and the regions: the scenes of violence between strikes and police regularly seen on television shocked the nation and divided public opinion. Polls suggested that 65% of the people supported the government and the police 35% of the miners. social commentators suggested that the violent clashes that frequently accompanied the strike stimulated a general strike ... Poem And Similes And Annotation In Ode To Books Ode to Books Annotation: I used similes and metaphors such as open the cover like a curtain rising and darkness of night slaughtering the night of day in order to make the poem more vivid and to completely express how much I enjoy books and how much of an escape they are for me. I also repeated the word Books with a capitalized B in order to emphasize the word and the idea that follows. My use of free verse allows the poem to be read with a specific tone and rhythm. Steven believes that eminent domain is constitutional as long as the public welfare is increased such as increasing tax and other revenues and stimulating a troubled city. New London was an economically insufficient city compared to the averages in Connecticut. He believed that making the city more attractive was making good use of the Takings Clause in the U.S. Constitution. He also thinks that the city carefully constructed a plan in order to benefit the community rather than hinder it. The authors of these majority and minority opinions are quite different. Steven believes that making a city more attractive and profitable is worth using eminent domain while O Connor believes that it makes every home and business be put in jeopardy for an unnecessary use of overused power. Although both agree that in some instances eminent domain is appropriate, they disagree on this particular case of the New London community. Before I began to read this case I made my own assumptions about eminent domain. Although I believe that it is not alright for eminent domain to be applied to all cases, I do believe that eminent domain is necessary in this case. The city was very apparently deteriorating and it is part of the cities job to make the community appealing again. Like it was stated, the population has not been as low as 24,000 residents since 1920. That was over 50 years ago. I may not always agree with using eminent domain in all instances but to make a city more profitable and more appealing to residents seems to me like a good use of property. The Impact Of Wal Mart On The Labor Market WESTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY A meta analysis of the impact of Wal Mart on the labor market A county wise analysis Nachiket Thakkar 05 Dec 14 ABSTRACT: This paper is a meta analysis of five different papers on the effect of Wal Mart stores in urban and rural counties of USA. It also tries to find some valuable information about the wage and employment level in those counties and also in the adjacent and non adjacent counties. Also, the paper discusses about the increase and decrease in the number of small retail stores in the counties where Wal Mart is having its discount or super store. This eventually forces the local small retailers to go out of business or to move their business where there is no competition from big box retail stores such as Walmart. The employees of the small retail stores, who got unemployed because of the closing of the stores, will be able to find jobs at the newly opened Walmart. But, the data does suggest that the employment do increase in the first year of the opening of Walmart but it starts declining in the subsequent years. Also, the retail space that will be left by the outgoing stores will now be available to other business and industries in which Walmart doesn t compete directly such as automobile dealerships, restaurant business, etc. Also, the employees that will be hired by the newly opened Walmart will be working on an average of 28 hours per week. So, they will be working part time job where as previously they were able to work full time in small retail stores. Also, there is a lot of criticism that Walmart doesn t pay good wages to its employees and according to some research it comes out to be between $7 8 per hour which is in range of other competing big box retail stores like K mart, Target, etc. There is also criticism that entry of Walmart in a particular community increases the poverty rate as well. Because, of the closing of the small retail businesses, the unemployed workers will be relying on the government to provide them with the necessary monetary support

  • 12. Literary Devices In Donald Barthelme s The School In the short story The School, written by Donald Barthelme, many different literary devices are being utilize like order of events, phraseology, point of view etc. The literary device that stands out the most in the short story The School is point of view. Barthelme uses point of view by making the teacher the story teller which gives the story a different mood than it would if it was told from a distinct perspective. Point of view is a position or perspective from which something is considered or evaluated (Merriam Webster, n.d.)Barthelme s use of point of view leads to the interpretation of the story in a totally unusual way which makes the story much less creepy than it should be. The author of The School grabs the reader s attention at the beginning of the short story by using the narrator s story, about the time when the children planted trees to teach them about growth, nature and responsibility. All the kids had to plant their own little tree, but all the little trees ended dying, and as a result they ended with little brown sticks instead. • 13. Mental Illness And The Barriers For Physical Activity Mental illness and the barriers for physical activity: Why is motivation a major limitation? Introduction Improvement in quality of life for people suffering from mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression) has recently been shown to have a correlation with increased levels of physical activity (1). Treatment approaches have begun to favor increased levels of physical activity to assist in symptom management as well as emerging evidence for an improvement in physiology (1). A major barrier for this approach however, is the motivation of people suffering from mental illness to participate in increased levels of physical activity. When compared to the general population, people suffering from mental illness have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, strategies to improve motivation for physical activity for mental illness patients is limited. The aim of this study is to determine the major intrinsic barriers for physical activity in patients with mental illness through interview and questionnaire to determine the levels of self efficacy, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation and readiness for physical activity. A cognitive behavioral approach will be adopted to further understand the motivational barriers which present themselves and to provide guidance to promoting physical activity through a mental health care unit. Current research for motivation towards physical activity is largely based on the general population or for patients who are suffering from cardiovascular disease with studies that include a motivational aspect which is not being based on the application to a theory (5). The application of a theory for motivation for physical activity in mental illness may assist in enhancing the participation in physical activity and ultimately improve the quality of life for patients suffering from a mental illness. However, for a theory to be developed, barriers to physical activity must be identified to ensure the efficacy of any developed or pre existing theory that may be applied. The utilization of Grounded Theory in this research will assist in determining the appropriateness of current theories or the development of a new theory to enhance the motivation for physical ... Americans have over 75 guns per 100 people, whereas other western countries range from 5 to 30 guns per 100 people (2007 small arms survey). Gun violence is a major issue in the United States due to lack of gun control. The lack of gun control makes handguns too readily available to citizens, allows those who should not own a firearm the ability to purchase firearms, and no policy on secure storage of firearms. As a result, I conclude that a combination of restriction of private ownership of handguns and stricter background check and storage policy would eliminate some of the violence caused by guns. • 15. Essay On Dante s Inferno See no Evil. Hear no Evil. Do no Evil. Trapped up to his waist in ice, Dante s Satan with his warped wings pushes freezing gusts of air throughout the caverns of the ninth circle of hell. With him, the worst of all sinners are warped into fantastical shapes while encased in the frigid ice. They are the betrayers of love, the godly ideal of voluntary benefaction, and now must spend eternity without warmth or light. Nothing is felt; by being a traitor to their state or their benefactor, they have lost their right to God s love, condemned in the center of the Earth. I admire Satan in this situation the rejected angel thrown deep into Hell because of his power over his realm. His wings freeze the ice and trap both him and the sinners within it, and his heads, a warped holy trinity, continually chew on the three apparently worst humans in history: Judas, Cassius, and Brutus. Thrust into this duty of penultimate torturer, Satan delivers the worst treatment of all of the sins because he too is deserving of it. President Truman proposed universal health insurance, but Congress didn t pass the Bill. President Nixon s National Health Insurance Act was in competition in Congress with Senator Kennedy s Health Security Act. The Health Security Act would be like Medicare for All financed by a federal single payer. This program would end the need for premiums and private health insurance. The Health Security act didn t make it far in Congress, but it was good to resurface the topic of universal health insurance since the Truman Administration. (Markel, 2015) The Watergate Scandal of the 1970 s consumed most of the Ford Administrations efforts, so little was done under the administration towards health reform. Luckily, the Carter Administration brought back the idea of universal healthcare and the American Medical Association slightly began to support the idea for the first time. Due to the United States being in a recession at the time, Congress didn t give President Carter s plan much attention. The economic issues the United States faced caused the Reagan administration to not make any progress towards a major health reform as well. It gave me a chance to interact with age groups ranging from neonates to adolescents, each with their own unique set of conditions. I vividly remember an eight year old who was admitted to the pediatric service with congestive heart failure. During my first interview with her, she was very scared and shy. Upon further discussions with her mother, I realized that she associated my white lab coat with injections and pain. The next time I met the girl, I went without my white coat. She was more cheerful and it was easier to gather her problem history. I realized that earning a patient s trust is the key and to do so, I must empathize with them and creatively address their concerns. This requires verbal as well as nonverbal listening skills and patience. Overall, it was a truly satisfying experience, to make her feel comfortable, understand her issues and provide her the care she needed. During my clinical rotations in the medical school, I was able to treat many sick children with different diseases. Nursing them to health and working with their families was not only emotionally satisfying but also helped me to appreciate the diverse components involved in pediatrics. • 19. Analysis Of Lucy By Jamaica Kincaid In Lucy, Jamaica Kincaid explores the disillusionment faced by the eponymous character upon immigrating to the United States. The novel s style of narration allows Lucy s thoughts and emotions to remain hidden. Despite this intense privacy, Lucy s disillusionment is clear. She had hoped that moving around the globe would solve her problems but she still struggles with homesickness and her relationship with her mother. Her move is disappointing. The erasure poem And Coldest also engages disillusionment. The poem suggests the speaker has become disillusioned by observing the world, and indicates their plan to be shut tight. The poem inspired me to consider the causes of Lucy s disillusionment, and her failure to address her own emotions. As a recent immigrant, the causes of Lucy s disillusionment are somewhat obvious. More enigmatic is her self avoidant, shut tight attitude. In this paper, I argue that Lucy s disillusionment causes her to avoid the discomfort that comes with self reflection. Lucy s experience in the United States is dissatisfactory from the moment of her arrival onwards. She describes her first night as gray black and cold and notes that no one told her January would be cold (Kincaid 3 5). This comment marks the intensity of Lucy s transition. With so many jeans walking around today, it s easy to forget that their classic indigo color is actually rare in nature. And while modern synthetic dyes have made this deep blue a common color, it wasn t always so. In fact, for centuries, in part because of its rarity, people across cultures and religions went totally bonkers for indigo. The definition of sacrifice according to Webster s dictionary is an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a divine or supernatural figure. People today do not tend to go by the same definition as others, every person has their own meaning of sacrifice. To me, a sacrifice is something that everyone should be willing to make on a daily basis without the fear of death. If people stop making sacrifices, then why should we expect our soldiers to make sacrifices for us at the border? One of the finest examples of sacrifice was shown in a film, London has Fallen. Summary Of Children Of God s Fire Essay The Lives of Rural Slaves in Brazilian Sugar Plantations Throughout the 16th century, as there was a demographic collapse of the indigenous population, there was now a new demand for slave labor in Latin America. In Brazil, the Portuguese needed a large workforce to cultivate sugar plantations. As a result, numerous slaves from Africa were imported to work on large plantation fields. In various plantations, rural slaves experienced harsh working and living conditions. Few slaves had a high life expectancy. Robert Edgar Conrad in Children of God s Fire, shares some primary sources that dealt with the types of environments and conditions many slaves faced and encountered in Brazil. The sources also gave insight into the regulations and economics/business of the slave trade. Conrad states that rural Brazil was a hell for blacks (Conrad 54). Many slaves dealt with extremely harsh conditions just to keep the European market in Latin American growing and profitable. This paper will analyze how rural slaves lived and worked on Brazilian sugar plantations. To start, in Brazil the Portuguese become convinced that full scale exploitation of the land was imperative for the safety of their entire overseas empire.
