Biometrics Essay
Biometrics
Biometrics is described as the use of human physical features to verify identity and has been in use
since the beginning of recorded history. Only recently, biometrics has been used in today s high
tech society for the prevention of identity theft. In this paper, we will be understanding biometrics,
exploring the history of biometrics, examples of today s current technology and where biometrics
are expected to go in the future.
By definition, biometrics (Woodward, Orlans, and Higgins, 2003) is the science of using
biological properties to identify individuals; for example, fingerprints, retina scans, and voice
recognition. We ve all seen in the movies, how the heroes and the villains have used other s
fingerprints and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
European Biometrics Forum is established. US patent for iris recognition expires.
Biometrics began with the inking of the fingers and feet and pressing those inked parts onto paper.
Today, law enforcement agencies are able to utilize biometric tools on the molecular level to
pinpoint criminals when no other evidence exists. In between these two extremes fall a whole
range of techniques used for identification.
The most basic of the techniques is the fingerprint and palm recognition. These methods, while
strong, still have their weaknesses. This led to looking for next level of identification just under the
skin by mapping the vascular structure of a person s hand. Each person has a unique, intricate
pattern of blood vessels that is virtually impossible to replicate since blood vessels have to be grown
and cannot constructed. Another method of biometric identification is through dental records.
Dental records are commonly used to identify a human by comparing the dental features (i.e., tooth
size and placement, dental work, oral injuries, etc.) and whose identity cannot be determined
through conventional means. Such situations would include a person who s been burn, been
dismembered, or has severely decomposed. This method of identification has taken on such an
important role that Disaster Dental Identification Teams have been developed to assist with
identification following disaster situations.

What Does White Man s Burden Mean
In the poem White Man s Burden, white man s burden is a phrase that came about in the
controversy about the United States procession of the Philippines after the Spanish American war.
It was a theory that the white Europeans would have to bring a sense of properness to the non
white Europeans due to the fact that they did not have a sense of properness. In the poem, it is
suggested that the citizens acquire a skill from practice. In the poem, it reads Take up the White
Man s burdenHave done with childish days The lightly proferred laurel, The easy, ungrudged
praise. Comes now, to search your manhood (Kipling). The acquired skill is that the non white
Europeans have acquired the skill of putting away the childish days, and are now in search of
manhood. This could be interpreted that the civilization has become like one another and is now

During American Imperialism, the term white man s burden was used as a justification for
expansion and annexation. The form of justification of imperialism use is the term civilizing
mission . This term best describes the justification due to the fact that The White Man s Burden,
explains the civilizing mission as the motion to make all citizens right minded by the white
Europeans. The white Europeans had the mission to civilize non proper cultures. The same line
mentioned above also confirms the idea that the non white European had adjusted to the ways
of the white European s and has accomplished the goal of becoming a man. Social Darwinism
can also be found in this poem. . Social Darwinism is the theory that tries to explain the success
of specific social group. This term can be used to describe the tone of the poem due to the fact
that it is expressed that a specific group of people is far more superior and educated than another
group. The line Take up the White Man s Burden (Kipling) is evidence enough to support this

The Good Shepherd And The Bebenburg Youth
Both The Good Shepherd and The Bebenburg Youth are quite small then what they appear on
generic white backgrounds. Only about two feet each and almost a thousand years in between
them, they have many concepts in common to their creation, build, and context with some
differences in each category. Marble is what the statues are made of, as the hard material was in
relative abundance in the Mediterranean area even in ancient times. Bits of paints on the Youth
are still present as this would be completely polychromed with pigments to add to the lifelikeness
of the statue. Not stated but the Good Shepherd looks like it had color at one point but wore off
from years of being weathered. With the texture of the overall statue, the Bebenburg Youth had
sheen and a smoothed appearance from that of the muscles and careful sanding down to
idealism. The Shepherd has a rougher feel as maybe the artist wanted not to make it like Christ
wore fine linen but a rough material like a poor shepherd would actually wear. At this point in
early Christian art, Christ is very accessible to the masses as a poor youthful shepherd as most
people could identify with shepherds and livestock as both were commonplaces in their simple
lives. On the Bebenburg Youth the hair is a bit chunky and stylized than what natural hair acts in
real life. The Good Shepherd also suffers the same fate. They both have a case of chunky thick
haired fronds just placed on their head like a wig. Neither of their

Nicki Minj Research Paper
Nicki Minaj is widely regarded as one of the greatest female rappers of all time. While I myself

While Rapsody is currently the best right now in my opinion, it s hard to look at a rapper like
Cardi as you can draw so many comparisons between her and Nicki. Many insiders believe for it
to be some sort of tension between the two, though they repeatedly deny it. You can look at
social media, and a few verses the two have done and say that they are subliminally taking shots

Bootlegging and Al Capone Essay
BOOTLEGGING In 1919, the Eighteenth Amendment was passed, this amendment made the
consumption and sell of alcohol illegal. A group of people referred to as moral reformers felt that
banning the sell and consumption of alcohol would better protect the lives of people as well as
make them better (Rose). Businesses, such as industrial businesses, believed that it would better
productivity if the workers could remain sober. The Volsted Act was passed shortly after the
Eighteenth Amendment to make sure it was enforced since local authorities did not do such; there
were only fifteen hundred agents to enforce the law and the act was also underfunded. Therefore,
the Prohibition was not enforced well enough and the organized crime rates... Show more content on

saying that he is not the problem with the crime in Chicago but the government is, for enforcing
the law. He also expressed how, When (he) sell(s) liquor, it is bootlegging; when (his) patrons

is discriminating against how alcohol is distributed. Capone is a criminal who s trying to put reason
behind his illegal actions (BrainyQuote).

Al Capone was notorious for his bootlegging and annihilating his competition; in order to do
that, he had to kill them. Before Capone became the big time bootlegger/ murderer/ assassination

A social mindset prevails in various parts of Croatian society. It is important to keep in mind that
Croatia has recently recovered from the Homeland war just twenty two short years ago. The
country has made tremendous strides towards reconstruction and recovery within the last decade.
Some major setbacks the country deals with today are that the majority of Croatian income comes
from government funding, social insurance, or public monopolies. Not from the revenues of truly
competitive companies. Therefore, any reforms that are introduced that are in opposition to or
address corruption, public overspending, or judicial inefficacy usually faces strong opposition
from privileged majority on top. On a more optimistic note Croatia has a growing force of
entrepreneurs who have innovative and vibrant ideas which are changing the way business in
conducted in many industries in Croatia. These entrepreneurs and their businesses follow strong
EU regulations and rules which make them perfect potential partners for American companies
looking to expand in the region. Market Challenges Croatia s developing Economy is still after its
gained independence in 1991. A number of internal problems plague Croatia s development. These
include Judiciary inefficiencies infested with case back logs and a lack of expertise in commercial
affairs, and a complex non transparent bureaucracy. Corruption is also a major issue that people

Abolish The Canadian Senate
The Canadian Senate has been a long standing problematic section of the Canadian government
and since its creation in 1867 and has been scrutinized for its effectiveness and purpose. In recent
years, concerns have been raised and approaches have been suggested into reforming the Senate.
Those in favour of taking drastic measures to reform or even abolish the Senateagree that the Senate
is not functioning and not a trustworthy part of Canadian government. However, there are those
who view that the Senate can still be saved say it has a purpose in the Canadian government since it
serves a vital function in passing Canadian legislature. Nonetheless, maintaining a government body

For the maintenance of the Senate there are four proposed approaches; minor renovation,
deferred abolition, housekeeping, and maintenance of the Senate. Firstly, minor renovations
would cause only small changes that would not make the Senate go through the amending
formula. These small changes would enforce term limits and allow for voters to select nominees
for the upper chamber (Brodie 2013). Although not direct elections this will make the Senate
more democratic since Canadians will be allowed to have some say in plausible Senators rather
than them being solely appointed by the Prime Minister. Deferred abolition (or demolition)
would postpone any changes until the federal election in 2025. This approach would put a gun to
the head of the status quo: you have ten years to achieve reform...or it s lights out in the Red
Chamber (Morton 2013). By having pressure put on the Senate the hope is to start change since
there is a time limit on what can be done. There has always been talk about what needs to be
changed but by putting a time limit on change will encourage the Senate to start to take the steps it
needs to be effective. Another approach is the approach of housekeeping, which consists of change
being started from within the Senate itself. Housekeeping calls for more transparency and for the
Senate to be held accountable (Black 2013). For the

as powerful as the U.S, be ahead us in education? Examples of these nations are South Korea,
Finland, and Poland. Amanda Ripley sought to find an answer to this question. Amanda Ripley

My Personal Narrative Is Texas
The personal narrative is a literary work written from a specific person s life on a specific
experience that had shaped the specific person s life in such a way that the person is
fundamentally changed forever. My personal narrative encompasses the biggest change in my
life, the move from my home state to the state of North Carolina. Whenever I tell someone that I
used to live in Texas and I loved it there the first thing I always hear is Really. I thought Texas
was a garbage state . What I usually tell them is that they are of course correct. Almost 90% of
texas are tiny towns where some don t have electricity or running water, and even worse are the
small cities full of illegal immigrants and rampant in crime. However like a massive desert of
unpleasantness there is an oasis in the center that makes the trip through the desert all worth it. This
oasis is AustinTexas, known as one of the top four best cities in the entirety of the United States.
The city of Austin is a beautiful place and I can barely put into words the feelings I have about
that city. Austin is a wonderful city and I was born in it; however, I was raised in a small town
right next to austin called Cedar Park.
In Cedar Park born and raised on the playground is where I spent most of my days like most kids
even nowadays; however the parks in Cedar Park were not your ordinary park, these parks were
huge and that s not just my child mind speaking. There were four parts to the park with each part

Essay On Trusses
There are many different construction features and materials being used in the newer
lightweight construction. There are benefits and detriments to this advancement, most of which
have been detriments to the fire service. These new features have caused a lack of structural
stability sooner in a fire making it more dangerous for firefighters. For example, trusses and
wooden I beams are made with more lightweight materials. Trusses are now being made of
lightweight wood connected by metals gusset plates. These trusses are usually enclosed with
particle board that has been breached by utilities and ductwork. This allows for fire to spread
quicker and for the truss to be exposed to fire sooner. Wooden I beams are also made of plywood
sheeting and lightweight wood glued together. These I beams sometimes also may be breached by
utilities and ductwork. Both of these makes it dangerous for the firefighters... Show more content on

Attempts were made to rescue the down firefighters but they could not make access. If the

aware that with the basement under heavy fire conditions and entering into the stairway that they
would be aware of the possible damage to the structure stability of the floor and not have sent the
second crew in on the first floor. The benefits of the new lightweight construction is that some are
being built with sprinkler systems and they are more airtight. With the buildings being more
airtight it does not allow for more oxygen to reach the fire but it also makes it dangerous because

The Role Of Homeostatic Mechanisms Of Homeostasis Essay
Homeostasis 3.4 Hannah Miller
Introduction
My investigation is about Homeostasis. Homeostasis is maintaining a physiological system in a
higher animal to maintain co ordinated responses. It tries to maintain the environmental changes,
and a condition of balance or equilibrium within its internal environment. Homeostasis is the
process of keeping everything constant. The higher animal I have chosen is Humans. The reason
why I have chosen Humans is because there are so many homeostatic mechanisms available for this
higher animal. Homeostatic mechanisms are important because it maintains your core body
temperature so the enzymes within the body are able to run at an optimum level. (pers comm
[Nicole Mitchell], 2016) If an enzyme get too cold the process of bonding with proteins will slow
until they are unable to bond, if an enzyme is too hot it will de nature meaning its shape will
change and be unable to bond with proteins, both being too cold and too hot will kill the host as
organs are unable to function without proteins . It regulates the body temperature so you don t heat
up too much. A negative feedback loop is important because it allows the mechanism to stop, so you
don t die. The mechanism I have chosen to do for my investigation are thermoregulation
(temperature) and blood pressure. A human is an Endotherm (warm blooded). Endotherm is an
organism which generates heat to maintain its body temperature and

First English Parliament During The Industrial Revolution
7)Parliament comes into being (Jan. 20, 1265) After his victory at the Battle of Lewes over Henry
III, De Montfort seized power in England. Even though he was in control, De Montfort s grip on
the country was threatened. He summoned the barons and the county knights, along with burgesses
from major towns to join him January 20th in an attempt to gain more support. This was called De
Montfort s Parliament. They discussed reforms and were able to temporarily stabilize de Montfort
s political state. Unfortunately, later that year he was killed at the Battle of Evesham, but his idea
of parliament did not die out. Under reign of Edward I, the idea of inviting both knights and the
burgesses to parliament become more popular. By the 14th century, this became normal and it
became known as the House of Commons. This parliament sometimes in referred to as the First
English parliament, and de Montfort is most often deemed the founder of the commons.

Comparison Between Friedrich Nietzsche And Dr. Martin...
Whether or not you agree with their views, both Friedrich Nietzsche and Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. were great, highly influential men. Their views, though radically different, impacted the world
in the greatest of ways, altering history for many nations. While Nietzsche, a German
philosopher from the 1800s, spoke from a materialistic point of view, believing that there is no
god and that all that exists is matter, King, a civil rights activist of the 1900s, spoke from the
belief in transcendence, that there is indeed a god, and that he exists in a divine realm outside of
this universe. But not only do these men differ in their backgrounds and religious beliefs, they
differ radically in how they believe society should function. In Nietzsche s writings, he promoted a
system that emphasizes will to power. He believed that an aristocracywas the basis for a great
society. King, on the other hand, promoted a system of equality and justice. He thought all men
were created equal, and that society should reflect that belief. The writings of these men have
come to be studied by people everywhere. They are so influential, in fact, that one of them played
an incredible role in getting our society to the point that it is today.
As stated previously, Nietzsche s work was both great and highly influential. The Nazis even used
his writings as a basis for their beliefs. Nietzsche believed that the greatest societies were always

White creates a utopian world where the idea of equality, peace, fairness, and happiness appears
as a result of King Arthur s influence. Novel shows how one individual tries his whole life
striving to achieve utopia. The novel shows that the lifetime of one person is not enough to
obtain this utopia as King Arthur has to past his ideas for the future generations. In Edward
Bellamy s Looking Backward, constructs the perfect utopia where the individual, love, and
knowledge are practice unlike the other worlds. Looking Backward, and Once and Future King,
did what the other novels did not; it strives for utopia and reaches it, at least for a time. Novels
that reach utopia keeps and works the ideas of individualism, love, and knowledge into the
society; whereas the dystopian novels eliminate such ideas believing it will lead to utopia.
George Orwell presents a world to the reader where there is no chance for a utopia whereas the
citizens of that world see their world as a utopia due to telescreens, propaganda and brainwashing
that leads to a society of no desires or thoughts. Citizens are not allowed to have personal thoughts

The Migration Of South Australia And The Pacific Islands
Around 50,000 years ago, a limited group of humans migrated through to northern Australia and
the Pacific Islands by means of primitive boat. Scholars believe that it is highly likely theses trips
were planned, due to the fact that enough women and men to furnish a new population had
traveled collectively (Kamrani, Kambiz). Seeing as how the Pacific was the first ocean to be
explored in this time marks the ocean crossing coming out of Eurasia to Australia and the Pacific
Islands one of humanity s earliest great achievements. Although as to where the migrants began
their journey before the travel to the islands is arguable at best, there exist numerous migration
routes stemming from Africa to Southeast Asia and onward. Still, it became a tremendous
accomplishment for mankind, though the justifying means as to how, why and when the journey
was made are still a debated topic among scholars. The migration of early humans to Australia
and New Guinea from Southeast Asia is known as the Southern wave. The actual timing of it is
hard to ascertain as it appears after the end of the last Ice Age (12,000 years ago), the glaciers that
melted had drowned large stretches of coastline covering any possible evidence for newage
scientists and making it certain that the humans had to endure a fifty mile voyage at sea to reach
land in Australia. Using sea crafts strong enough and advanced far beyond the technology norm at
the time, in order to survive such a journey, settlements of these early

Personal Identity- Philosphy
It is easy to see oneself as the same person we were ten, twenty, or fifty years ago. We can define
identity through our physical presence, life experiences, memories, and mental awareness of self.
One can testify our persistence as a person through our existence as a person. But what makes us
the same person? In this paper, I will argue for the simple view of the persistence of identity that it
is impossible to determine what single thing that makes us the same person over time. I will support
my claim with the refutation of the main complex view claims of the body, brain and psychological
continuity criterion. Entrenched in the simple view is the idea that personal identity, and the
persistence of personal identity, cannot be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, if individual C had their body cloned, it would not make their clone the same person.
There is much more to personal identity than can be defined by something so comparatively
insignificant as the physical body. Complex argument 3 Persistence of the brain The brain is the
functional centre of the human body; the place where memories are stored, feelings are felt, and
environmental signals are processed. It is unsurprising, therefore, that the brain is so often
considered to be the home of personal identity. This theory is a staple of many science fiction
texts as a convention, the cognizant brain in a jar or brain transplant recipient is fairly common.
Proponents of this we are our brains theory claim that, so long as the brain persists, so does the
person. Counter argument This theory seems to refer to consciousness rather than the physicality
of the brain, so it is important to make a clarification between the two. Julian Baggini suggests
that we should view the relationship between consciousness and identity similarly to the
relationship between a musical score and the paper it is written on (Baggini, 2005, pp. 112 114).
In other words, the brain is simply a storage space for our memories, thoughts, and self awareness.
Should it not, therefore, be so that an individual could simply persist as a brain in a jar, provided
they could be sustained in that state? If the entirety of personal identity is stored in

Contracting Out Public Service Organization
Contracting out Public Service
Introduction
According to the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, many public agencies
in the recent years followed the contracting out trend (Organisation for Economic Co operation and
Development, 2009). Currently, the private sector performs activities and functions that the public
employee once executed. Some of the services that the government contracted include vehicle
towing, health services, police protection, and solid waste collection. In 1995, a survey that was
referred to the city managers of America s largest cities revealed that only three of the 66 cities that
responded to the investigation had not privatised any city services. Therefore, the problem not only
translates to administration but staffing concerns by many managers.
Contracting Out Government Functions and Services
Given the current international debates on state buildings and adherence to no harm principles, an
exploration of the pitfalls of contracting out state service is timely (Ya Ni Bretschneider, 2007). For
the most part, contracting out is a transitional strategy. External agencies usually execute the most
urgent functions while the state capacity takes them on over time. However, the risk of such
procedures is that they can erode the limited capacity and result in parallel systems of government
that can undermine the legitimacy of the state. As citizens view the vital services that non state
actors execute, the compact between them and

Cappella Chigi Essay
Beyond fiction, Into the Depths of Cappella Chigi
There isn t a specific year in history that could be pinpointed and said, This is when the
Renaissance started. The period of rebirth of the classic ideas is what we, more fondly and
famously identify as the period of Renaissance today. The European countries have been the central
station for this massively celebrated time of revival of knowledge either lost or forgotten. Italy
hosted the birth of the personalities, the present knows as the Renaissance Masters with Leonardo
Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael, Fra Bartolomeo, Masaccio being some of the most
prominent figures. The period of Enlightenment that followed the Renaissance celebrated the ideas
revived in its preceding era. Rationalism, Individualism, Skepticism and so on were some of the

Court takes on and demolishes a number of theories under the traditionally untouchable domain of
executive discretion. It reiterated that all executive functioning must derive legitimacy from statute

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Phased Effort Distribution
3.2.1Phased effort distribution
Reasonable resources allocation to software phases is a vital factor for the success of software
projects‎[52].Effort distribution to phases is the key to a more efficient resource allocation.
This approach is proposed to estimate the effort of migrated services. The effort is estimated for
different project phases. The service s cost often varies depending on the migration strategy used;
this is mainly because each migration strategy has its own cost factors. In this approach, the cost
factors of SOA are extracted from previous literatures .These cost factors are distributed among
SOA project phases. Each cost factor is given a weight for each migration strategy. These weights
of different factors are grouped by project phase. All the weights of all factors are aggregated per
migration strategy. The relative effort ratio for each phase is calculated by dividing the total
weights of the phase factors to the total weight of the migration strategy The whole process is

Psychoanalytic Perspective Deals With Personality And...
Psychoanalytic perspective deals with personality and behavior that are caused by unconscious
motives and conflicts. Sigmund Freud has introduced this, and showed that he researched
neurological disorders dealing with psychological causes. Freud, in his research, discussed
different regions of the human s mind, one of which is the unconscious region contains
thoughts, wishes, feelings, and memories of which are unaware; some are stored in temporarily
in a preconscious area from which we can retrieve them into conscious awareness. He came to a
conclusion that we are being influenced by these troublesome feelings even though we are not
consciously aware of them. ID is the part of the mind that tries to satisfy basic drives that operate
on the pleasure principle. The ego is the largely conscious executive part of the mind that
mediates among the id, superego, and reality guiding behavior to try to satisfy desires in realistic
ways. The superego is the part of the mind that represents ideals, morals, and the conscience. The
concept of personality development is based on the concept of perfection of oneself and ones
reaction in order to acquire a well developed personality. What I have learned from taking this class
is that personality has different approaches and the main approaches that I have learned are the trait
approach, psychoanalytic, behavioral, and humanistic approaches. I have learned from this class

A Research On Organic And Chemical Essay
Organic and chemical are both antagonistic words, and both are rivals to say in the horticulture
and agriculture industries, as one of the words invokes a sense of greenery and meadows while the
other hinders to synthetic mixtures and various concoctions in a sterilized environment. What
organic fertilizers means is that they are minimally processed, in which the nutrients are sourced in
their natural form. Most of these sources are made from plant waste, animal wastes, and powdered
materials such as glacial rock dust and bone meal. On the other hand, chemical fertilizers are
refined nutrients from extracts that are mixed with chemical dressings to create a specific ratio.
Chemical fertilizers are made from petroleum products, certain rocks, and also from organic sources.

something many scientists had been frantically researching for years, the idea of turning nitrogen

The War Of The Nineteenth Century
Tsar Alexander II was assassinated during the midst of a reformation movement in Russia toward
the end of the nineteenth century. At this time, the Russian lower class blamed Jews for their poor
living conditions. When Tsar Alexander III came into power he was paranoid of being a target of
an assassination. So he created a secret police to suppress civil and revolutionary outbreaks, and
also introduced anti Semitic legislations to satisfy the enraged lower class. Government officials
managed to use Jews as scapegoats, often saying that Jews exploited the population, especially the
impoverished classes. This anti Semitic movement led to unity in the lower class, and from this
unity, anti Semitic nationalism increased in late nineteenth century Russia.
During the end of the eighteenth century, there were approximately two million Jews scattered
throughout Europe. But, by 1914, the number of Jews in Europe had grown to over nine million. In
the nineteenth century, Jewish communities could be found in England, France, the Netherlands,
Italy, and other Western European countries, but the central Jewish population was located in the
Russian Empire with about five million Jews. This large Jewish Russian population was caused by
a large numbers of Jews emigrating from countries, like England, France, or Spain, which had
created an expulsion of Jews during medieval conflicts. These Jews migrated eastward and began to
inhabit Eastern Europe. Initially, Jews were welcome in Russian

Ethical Egoism Essay
People act for many reasons; but for whom, or what, do or should they act for themselves, for
God, or for the good of the planet? (Moseley) An egoist would argue that one acts for one s own

That is their essential ethical principle. Finally, there is the hypothetical egoist, who argues that
all individuals ought to pursue their own interests if they are looking for coming to a specific
end. In a way, that type of egoist is not an actual egoist; he is rather a utilitarian who believes that
happiness for all can be enhanced if each person looks out after his own self.
A true ethical egoist would argue against the hypothetical egoist. He would not look to increase
the happiness of others, only that of himself. A true ethical egoist must not become a hypothetical
egoist, because then he is no longer an egoist. Nor should he become an individual egoist, because
it would not be ethical. In addition, the truest ethical egoist must not publicize, or even try to
persuade, others of his own policy. When an individual advocates his own doctrine upon others, he
is then persuading them to do the same. Hence, each person would begin to pursue his or her own
interest and thus it would not be to the persuader s advantage, for it will harm his own interest. A
true ethical egoist would convince people to do otherwise, and in return, this will serve the
individual s greatest interests.

Aliens By As The Roman Epicurean Poet Lucretius
Essay Writing Aliens are on everybody s mind thinking are they real or are they fake, this
question has started making people think, the person who started thinking about this question
first, was about 1,400 years ago by As the Roman Epicurean poet Lucretius put it:Nothing in the
universe is unique and alone and therefore in other regions there must be other earths inhabited

Aldous Huxley s Impact On American Society
Most Americans place the rise of psychedelic and hallucinogenic drug use in the 1970 s, but
Aldous Huxley, author and English scholar, was ahead of his time. Starting in the 1940 s, Huxley
began using a hallucinogenic drug under the watch of a psychiatrist conducting a clinical study as
he wrote novels. One of his best known novels, written while he was using psychedelics such as
mescaline and LSD, is Island, a story set on the imaginary island of Pala in Southeast Asia. Pala
appears to be a utopian society, untouched by the Western influences of capitalism and widespread
industrial areas with high consumerism. One of the main pillars of Palanese society is use of a
psychedelic drug called moksha medicine for enlightenment, mind expansion,... Show more content

His own experimentation and use of hallucinogenic drugs changed his perception of the world,
which bled into his writing. The psychiatrist Humphrey Osmond accepted Huxley as a test
subject for mescaline, a hallucinogenic similar to LSD, in the mid 1940 s. These drug induced
experiences were, for Huxley, of mystical import and supported beliefs in the wisdom of Eastern
teachings (Aliprandi, Aldous Huxley: Early Life and Works ). Unlike the drug he invented in his
earlier book A Brave New World, which was called soma and acted as a depressant to relax the
mind, the mescaline and psychedelic drugs introduced in Island could expand the human mind,
rather than pacify it. Huxley used LSD and other hallucinogenic drugs often, enjoying their mind
opening abilities and which allowed him to contemplate which reality was true, the sober reality or
his drug induced journey through his own mind. The drugs were such an integral part of him that
he requested them upon death, and, His wife honored his request to be administered LSD on this
deathbed (Aliprandi, Aldous Huxley Early Life and

  • 2. Biometrics Essay Biometrics Biometrics is described as the use of human physical features to verify identity and has been in use since the beginning of recorded history. Only recently, biometrics has been used in today s high tech society for the prevention of identity theft. In this paper, we will be understanding biometrics, exploring the history of biometrics, examples of today s current technology and where biometrics are expected to go in the future. By definition, biometrics (Woodward, Orlans, and Higgins, 2003) is the science of using biological properties to identify individuals; for example, fingerprints, retina scans, and voice recognition. We ve all seen in the movies, how the heroes and the villains have used other s fingerprints and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... European Biometrics Forum is established. US patent for iris recognition expires. Biometrics began with the inking of the fingers and feet and pressing those inked parts onto paper. Today, law enforcement agencies are able to utilize biometric tools on the molecular level to pinpoint criminals when no other evidence exists. In between these two extremes fall a whole range of techniques used for identification. The most basic of the techniques is the fingerprint and palm recognition. These methods, while strong, still have their weaknesses. This led to looking for next level of identification just under the skin by mapping the vascular structure of a person s hand. Each person has a unique, intricate pattern of blood vessels that is virtually impossible to replicate since blood vessels have to be grown and cannot constructed. Another method of biometric identification is through dental records. Dental records are commonly used to identify a human by comparing the dental features (i.e., tooth size and placement, dental work, oral injuries, etc.) and whose identity cannot be determined through conventional means. Such situations would include a person who s been burn, been dismembered, or has severely decomposed. This method of identification has taken on such an important role that Disaster Dental Identification Teams have been developed to assist with identification following disaster situations. ... • 3. What Does White Man s Burden Mean In the poem White Man s Burden, white man s burden is a phrase that came about in the controversy about the United States procession of the Philippines after the Spanish American war. It was a theory that the white Europeans would have to bring a sense of properness to the non white Europeans due to the fact that they did not have a sense of properness. In the poem, it is suggested that the citizens acquire a skill from practice. In the poem, it reads Take up the White Man s burdenHave done with childish days The lightly proferred laurel, The easy, ungrudged praise. Comes now, to search your manhood (Kipling). The acquired skill is that the non white Europeans have acquired the skill of putting away the childish days, and are now in search of manhood. This could be interpreted that the civilization has become like one another and is now moving on up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During American Imperialism, the term white man s burden was used as a justification for expansion and annexation. The form of justification of imperialism use is the term civilizing mission . This term best describes the justification due to the fact that The White Man s Burden, explains the civilizing mission as the motion to make all citizens right minded by the white Europeans. The white Europeans had the mission to civilize non proper cultures. The same line mentioned above also confirms the idea that the non white European had adjusted to the ways of the white European s and has accomplished the goal of becoming a man. Social Darwinism can also be found in this poem. . Social Darwinism is the theory that tries to explain the success of specific social group. This term can be used to describe the tone of the poem due to the fact that it is expressed that a specific group of people is far more superior and educated than another group. • 4. The Good Shepherd And The Bebenburg Youth Both The Good Shepherd and The Bebenburg Youth are quite small then what they appear on generic white backgrounds. Only about two feet each and almost a thousand years in between them, they have many concepts in common to their creation, build, and context with some differences in each category. Marble is what the statues are made of, as the hard material was in relative abundance in the Mediterranean area even in ancient times. Bits of paints on the Youth are still present as this would be completely polychromed with pigments to add to the lifelikeness of the statue. Not stated but the Good Shepherd looks like it had color at one point but wore off from years of being weathered. With the texture of the overall statue, the Bebenburg Youth had sheen and a smoothed appearance from that of the muscles and careful sanding down to idealism. The Shepherd has a rougher feel as maybe the artist wanted not to make it like Christ wore fine linen but a rough material like a poor shepherd would actually wear. At this point in early Christian art, Christ is very accessible to the masses as a poor youthful shepherd as most people could identify with shepherds and livestock as both were commonplaces in their simple lives. On the Bebenburg Youth the hair is a bit chunky and stylized than what natural hair acts in real life. The Good Shepherd also suffers the same fate. They both have a case of chunky thick haired fronds just placed on their head like a wig. Neither of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Nicki Minj Research Paper Nicki Minaj is widely regarded as one of the greatest female rappers of all time. While I myself am not the biggest fan, it s hard to deny the influence and success she has seen over her career. Though she has one of the most loyal fan bases in music, many fans in hip hop feel as though she has underachieved in terms of albums released. Nicki managed to become a household name without having a career defining project. Pink Friday , Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded , and The Pinkprint aren t making anyone all time list. She widely considers herself one of the greats regardless of gender, but she lacks a Take Care , Good Kid Maad City , or even an Acid Rap type of project. While fans have ate up her music without question over the years, for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2017 however, we managed to see the rise of other women acts like Cardi B and Rapsody. While Rapsody is currently the best right now in my opinion, it s hard to look at a rapper like Cardi as you can draw so many comparisons between her and Nicki. Many insiders believe for it to be some sort of tension between the two, though they repeatedly deny it. You can look at social media, and a few verses the two have done and say that they are subliminally taking shots at one another. The two didn t even appear in one scene together on the set of Motorsport due to what they said was scheduling conflicts .Nicki Minaj is widely regarded as one of the greatest female rappers of all time. A group of people referred to as moral reformers felt that banning the sell and consumption of alcohol would better protect the lives of people as well as make them better (Rose). Businesses, such as industrial businesses, believed that it would better productivity if the workers could remain sober. Not from the revenues of truly competitive companies. Therefore, any reforms that are introduced that are in opposition to or address corruption, public overspending, or judicial inefficacy usually faces strong opposition from privileged majority on top. On a more optimistic note Croatia has a growing force of entrepreneurs who have innovative and vibrant ideas which are changing the way business in conducted in many industries in Croatia. For the maintenance of the Senate there are four proposed approaches; minor renovation, deferred abolition, housekeeping, and maintenance of the Senate. Firstly, minor renovations would cause only small changes that would not make the Senate go through the amending formula. These small changes would enforce term limits and allow for voters to select nominees for the upper chamber (Brodie 2013). Although not direct elections this will make the Senate more democratic since Canadians will be allowed to have some say in plausible Senators rather than them being solely appointed by the Prime Minister. Deferred abolition (or demolition) would postpone any changes until the federal election in 2025. This approach would put a gun to the head of the status quo: you have ten years to achieve reform...or it s lights out in the Red Chamber (Morton 2013). By having pressure put on the Senate the hope is to start change since there is a time limit on what can be done. There has always been talk about what needs to be changed but by putting a time limit on change will encourage the Senate to start to take the steps it needs to be effective. Another approach is the approach of housekeeping, which consists of change being started from within the Senate itself. Homeostasis is maintaining a physiological system in a higher animal to maintain co ordinated responses. It tries to maintain the environmental changes, and a condition of balance or equilibrium within its internal environment. Homeostasis is the process of keeping everything constant. The higher animal I have chosen is Humans. The reason why I have chosen Humans is because there are so many homeostatic mechanisms available for this higher animal. Homeostatic mechanisms are important because it maintains your core body temperature so the enzymes within the body are able to run at an optimum level. (pers comm [Nicole Mitchell], 2016) If an enzyme get too cold the process of bonding with proteins will slow until they are unable to bond, if an enzyme is too hot it will de nature meaning its shape will change and be unable to bond with proteins, both being too cold and too hot will kill the host as organs are unable to function without proteins . It regulates the body temperature so you don t heat up too much. A negative feedback loop is important because it allows the mechanism to stop, so you don t die. He summoned the barons and the county knights, along with burgesses from major towns to join him January 20th in an attempt to gain more support. This was called De Montfort s Parliament. Whether or not you agree with their views, both Friedrich Nietzsche and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were great, highly influential men. Their views, though radically different, impacted the world in the greatest of ways, altering history for many nations. While Nietzsche, a German philosopher from the 1800s, spoke from a materialistic point of view, believing that there is no god and that all that exists is matter, King, a civil rights activist of the 1900s, spoke from the belief in transcendence, that there is indeed a god, and that he exists in a divine realm outside of this universe. But not only do these men differ in their backgrounds and religious beliefs, they differ radically in how they believe society should function. In Nietzsche s writings, he promoted a system that emphasizes will to power. He believed that an aristocracywas the basis for a great society. King, on the other hand, promoted a system of equality and justice. He thought all men were created equal, and that society should reflect that belief. The writings of these men have come to be studied by people everywhere. They are so influential, in fact, that one of them played an incredible role in getting our society to the point that it is today. The Migration Of South Australia And The Pacific Islands Around 50,000 years ago, a limited group of humans migrated through to northern Australia and the Pacific Islands by means of primitive boat. Scholars believe that it is highly likely theses trips were planned, due to the fact that enough women and men to furnish a new population had traveled collectively (Kamrani, Kambiz). Seeing as how the Pacific was the first ocean to be explored in this time marks the ocean crossing coming out of Eurasia to Australia and the Pacific Islands one of humanity s earliest great achievements. Although as to where the migrants began their journey before the travel to the islands is arguable at best, there exist numerous migration routes stemming from Africa to Southeast Asia and onward. Still, it became a tremendous accomplishment for mankind, though the justifying means as to how, why and when the journey was made are still a debated topic among scholars. The migration of early humans to Australia and New Guinea from Southeast Asia is known as the Southern wave. The actual timing of it is hard to ascertain as it appears after the end of the last Ice Age (12,000 years ago), the glaciers that melted had drowned large stretches of coastline covering any possible evidence for newage scientists and making it certain that the humans had to endure a fifty mile voyage at sea to reach land in Australia. Contracting Out Public Service Organization Contracting out Public Service Introduction According to the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, many public agencies in the recent years followed the contracting out trend (Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, 2009). Currently, the private sector performs activities and functions that the public employee once executed. Some of the services that the government contracted include vehicle towing, health services, police protection, and solid waste collection. In 1995, a survey that was referred to the city managers of America s largest cities revealed that only three of the 66 cities that responded to the investigation had not privatised any city services. Therefore, the problem not only translates to administration but staffing concerns by many managers. Contracting Out Government Functions and Services Given the current international debates on state buildings and adherence to no harm principles, an exploration of the pitfalls of contracting out state service is timely (Ya Ni Bretschneider, 2007). For the most part, contracting out is a transitional strategy. External agencies usually execute the most urgent functions while the state capacity takes them on over time. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Phased Effort Distribution 3.2.1Phased effort distribution Reasonable resources allocation to software phases is a vital factor for the success of software projects‎[52].Effort distribution to phases is the key to a more efficient resource allocation. This approach is proposed to estimate the effort of migrated services. The effort is estimated for different project phases. The service s cost often varies depending on the migration strategy used; this is mainly because each migration strategy has its own cost factors. In this approach, the cost factors of SOA are extracted from previous literatures .These cost factors are distributed among SOA project phases. Each cost factor is given a weight for each migration strategy. These weights of different factors are grouped by project phase. All the weights of all factors are aggregated per migration strategy. The relative effort ratio for each phase is calculated by dividing the total weights of the phase factors to the total weight of the migration strategy The whole process is summarized in Figure 12. Sigmund Freud has introduced this, and showed that he researched neurological disorders dealing with psychological causes. Freud, in his research, discussed different regions of the human s mind, one of which is the unconscious region contains thoughts, wishes, feelings, and memories of which are unaware; some are stored in temporarily in a preconscious area from which we can retrieve them into conscious awareness. He came to a conclusion that we are being influenced by these troublesome feelings even though we are not consciously aware of them. The ego is the largely conscious executive part of the mind that mediates among the id, superego, and reality guiding behavior to try to satisfy desires in realistic ways. What organic fertilizers means is that they are minimally processed, in which the nutrients are sourced in their natural form. Most of these sources are made from plant waste, animal wastes, and powdered materials such as glacial rock dust and bone meal. On the other hand, chemical fertilizers are refined nutrients from extracts that are mixed with chemical dressings to create a specific ratio. Chemical fertilizers are made from petroleum products, certain rocks, and also from organic sources. 100 years ago a lone chemist, Fritz Haber, discovered ammonia synthesis, a process in which Fritz used a sheet of osmium inside a steel chamber, flowing with nitrogen and hydrogen gas, and packed with pressure and enormous heat, created ammonia. Fritz was a genius, and he discovered something many scientists had been frantically researching for years, the idea of turning nitrogen gas, which was abundant in the atmosphere, into a physical form in which plants can take up as nutrients. • 37. The War Of The Nineteenth Century Tsar Alexander II was assassinated during the midst of a reformation movement in Russia toward the end of the nineteenth century. At this time, the Russian lower class blamed Jews for their poor living conditions. When Tsar Alexander III came into power he was paranoid of being a target of an assassination. So he created a secret police to suppress civil and revolutionary outbreaks, and also introduced anti Semitic legislations to satisfy the enraged lower class. Government officials managed to use Jews as scapegoats, often saying that Jews exploited the population, especially the impoverished classes. This anti Semitic movement led to unity in the lower class, and from this unity, anti Semitic nationalism increased in late nineteenth century Russia. During the end of the eighteenth century, there were approximately two million Jews scattered throughout Europe. But, by 1914, the number of Jews in Europe had grown to over nine million. In the nineteenth century, Jewish communities could be found in England, France, the Netherlands, Italy, and other Western European countries, but the central Jewish population was located in the Russian Empire with about five million Jews. This large Jewish Russian population was caused by a large numbers of Jews emigrating from countries, like England, France, or Spain, which had created an expulsion of Jews during medieval conflicts. Finally, there is the hypothetical egoist, who argues that all individuals ought to pursue their own interests if they are looking for coming to a specific end. In a way, that type of egoist is not an actual egoist; he is rather a utilitarian who believes that happiness for all can be enhanced if each person looks out after his own self. A true ethical egoist would argue against the hypothetical egoist. He would not look to increase the happiness of others, only that of himself. A true ethical egoist must not become a hypothetical egoist, because then he is no longer an egoist. Nor should he become an individual egoist, because it would not be ethical. In addition, the truest ethical egoist must not publicize, or even try to persuade, others of his own policy. When an individual advocates his own doctrine upon others, he is then persuading them to do the same. Hence, each person would begin to pursue his or her own interest and thus it would not be to the persuader s advantage, for it will harm his own interest. A true ethical egoist would convince people to do otherwise, and in return, this will serve the individual s greatest interests. What is meant by my own good? David P.
