North Land Winery Case Study Essay examples
ENGG439 Case Study Week 5
North Land Winery are a solid, well established, family based winemaker headquartered in
Wollongong, NSW. After ongoing success the vintners have addressed the idea of expanding their
wine distribution to Ontario situated in Eastern Canada.
So far NLW s most innovative product involves soil aged merlots and chardonnay grapes grown
in areas prone to wild fires which was labeled Deep Burn . The purpose of these wines were to
exploit these wild fires to give the wines smoky characteristics. Given the popularity of this flavor
in North American foods amp; beverages, this wine would be expected to pair well with many
Canadian palates, particularly red meat dishes. Ideally this product would be a key seller to ... Show

Each employee could be expected to generate $1,000,000 in sales.
The following rule is the basis for comparison between the two and the unknown variables can be
grouped using general arithmetic:
Cost of sales reps = Cost of own office
No.of employees * 10% of gross sales = Cost of set up amp; ongoing communication + No. of
employees * (Employee Base Salary + 5% of gross sales)
No. of employees * (0.10 * Selling Price * Volume of sales) = $100000 + No. of employees *
($25000 + 0.05 * Selling Price * Volume of Sales)
$100000 + No. of employees * $25000 = No. of employees * Volume of sales * Selling Price *
(0.10 0.05)
$2,000,000 + No. of employees * $500,000 = No. of employees * Volume of sales * Selling Price
Indifference point occurs when both sides are equal. As the figures used are annual, the ratio of
LHS to RHS * 1 year will determine the amount of time it takes for costs with sales
representative to match a sales office. The longer this takes, the more justifiable it is to run with
option 1. As there are a number of variables NLW should first research current and future demand
which will provide a good indication of turnover. Sales representatives can be kept to a minimum

Intertextuality Of Love
Throughout the ages, many have tried to comprehend the human experience of love and its
ineffable and mysterious force that leads us to complete euphoria or utter despair, with songs,
paintings, and stories. In Plato s Symposium, six guest including Socrates, tackle and attempt to
define love amongst each other. With each attempt, and our study of Johns gospel, the intertextuality
between the symposium and John 15:8 17 helps one better understand the portrait that John portrays
of Jesusas the ultimate lover and only way to being fully complete.
In the Farewell Discourse of Johns gospel, Jesus speaks of his abiding love and ultimate
commandment given to his disciples. He tells his disciples, As the Father loves me, so I also
love you. Remain in my love... I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy
might be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you (John 15:9 12).
This guide he gives to his disciples, as a way to live in relation to each other, can connect with
that of Phaedrus idea of love. In the Symposium, Phaedrus speaks of love as a great god who
gives the greatest goods and there is no greater good given to a boy than a lover. The lover is the
guidance, to hold accountable the boy, just as we are held accountable by Jesus. He gives us this
commandment of simply loving each other as he loves us and the Father him. Just as the Lover in
Phaedrus definition of love, the Lover is guiding the boy to be his companion and to love

A Gathering Of Old Men By Ernest J. Gaines
The past is never completely forgotten and in A Gathering of Old Men by Ernest J. Gaines, this
statement is proven true. Set in the 1970s in central Louisiana on the tail end of the Civil Rights
and Jim Crow eras, this novel by Gaines reflects on the struggle between past traditions and a new
world order. The setting presented directly correlates to the theme of change in the novel and how
broader societal changes affect the characters actions. By examining the significance of the theme
of change in the novel and how it plays out in the motivation and continuance of the plot, the reader
can see what the consequences of a large shift in societal thinking can have on a community. In A
Gathering of Old Men, most readers would agree that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m interested only in my family. If the majority feels their brother is not worth it, then the
family has spoken. I m only interested in my family (Gaines 145). In this passage, the
ideological differences between generations become very apparent. The philosophical
differences between Fix and his son, Gil, can be attributed to three things time, education, and
exposure to different groups of people. Fix and Beau are uneducated Cajuns that farm the land
with tractors, however this contrasts with Gil, who is pursuing an education at LSU. Because
of his higher education and sports background, Gil has had to work with many different groups
of people, which then bred tolerance within him and ultimately led to his change in ideals. Like
Gil and Fix, a similar metamorphosis occurs in the character of Charlie. Even though Charlie is
one of the most important characters, he does not appear until the last few chapters of the novel.
In his own words, Charlie describes his change: He cussed me. I was doing my work good. Cussed
me anyhow. I told him he didn t need to cuss me like that. I told him I was doing my work good.
He told me he wouldn t just cuss me, but he would beat me, too. I told him no, I wasn t go n low
that no more, cause I was fifty years old half a hundred. (Gaines 190) He

Essay on Superman vs. Christ
Faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, jumps tall buildings in a single bound.
Superman is known throughout the world for being the savior of a city called Metropolis. In
every comic book, movie, or action figure ever presented to the public, Superman is a handsome,
strong man who can defeat all oddsat all times. The movie Superman was a success, showing how
the superhero saved lives and yet lived a humble life. As one watches the movie, though, he might
notice the many similarities between the plot of the movie and the story of Christ s coming.
Superman, savior of the city Metropolis, mirrors the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.
Throughout the movie Superman, the names and the actions of the characters were ... Show more

At the beginning of the movie, it shows three people standing on trial and a vote that was to be
decided by Jor el. Zod, who was one of two men on trial, told Jor el to let him go and that he
would let Jor el have reign over the new world, which is also said when the devil is speaking to
God and trying to keep himself out of what was to become Hell. One of the strongest points in
the movie that showed itself to be on the same path as Christ s coming was when Jor el said the
father in the son, and the son in the father, before he was to send Kah lel off into the universe
towards Earth. Another moment was when Kah lel throws the crystal and his father appears to
tell his son that he is pleased with him and that he should now start his ministry after roaming
the wilderness for the past twelve years. Not only does this scene in the movie agree with the
Bible s story of Christ s twelve lost years, but it also is similar to when Christ was baptized by
John. When Christ s baptism took place in the river Jordan, a voice from Heaven came down
upon the crowd and said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. From the
beginning to end of the movie, there are times in which Superman looked to be modeled after the
story of Christ s coming.
While the names and the actions matched up for both stories, there were also cases where an
object s appearance alone made the viewer

Essay on Parental Detachment in I Stand Here Ironing
Every parent knows how difficult it is to make decisions in the best interest of their children.
There is always some doubt in the back of the mind, what if this happens or that happens. Tillie
Olsen shows in her story I Stand Here Ironing the conflict and the results of one mother s decisions.
She illustrates the back, forth motion of the iron as the back and forth doubts in the mothers mind.
The detachment between mother and daughter in I Stand Here Ironingis understandable. The mother
struggles daily with the decisions she made while her oldest child Emily was a young baby and
toddler. Obstacles in Emily s life have made it hard for her mother to forget these decisions, and
life with Emily only reinforces these decisions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emily is isolated from her mother s touch; she does not get the reassurance she needs that her
mother would return for her. Nurseries in this time were very stale and cold; her mother
describes it as ...lacerations of group life. (Olsen) The mental pain is like physical pain that she
could feel throughout her little body. The separation of feelings between mother and daughter
are so severe that Emily feels as though her heart is torn in two. As Olsen has done throughout
her story, the visual imagery clarifies the story. Olsen writes about the way boys and girls
appear when they live at a convalescent home, the girls still wear those gigantic red bows and
the ravaged looks... (Olsen) The children have a look of longing; they are stripped of their
emotions. They desire for nothing more than to be with their families again; they want to feel
loved and cared for. Instead, they are in a home that does not allow emotions or love. Emily was
again in that familiar place of being unwanted. Olsen describes how the parents and children are
kept at a distance so as not to be contaminated by parental germs or physical affection. (Olsen)
Parents, including Emily s mother, are kept at a distance so that they could not fill their children
with false hopes and dreams of returning home. However, the children are kept away so that they
would not tell their parents about the wretched home that they live in. After eight

Advantages Of Anti-Competitive Agreement
CHAPTER IV
ANTI COMPETITIVE AGREEMNENT
People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the
conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices.
While doing business in India, parties are prohibited from executing anti competitive agreements.
Generally, the agreements which cause or are likely to cause appreciable adverse effect on
competition ( AAEC ) are anti competitive agreements. However, the Competition Act, 2002 ( Act )
recognizes intellectual property rights and to facilitate their protection, the Act permits reasonable
restrictions imposed by their owners. Similarly, the Act exempts agreements between exporters as
exports do not impact markets in India. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most obvious example would be that of agreements between enterprises dealing in the same
products. However, in general, it is important to define the relevant market(s). To attract the
provision of the law, the products must be substitutes. Being at the same stage of the production
chain implies that the parties to the agreement are both (all) producers, or retailers or wholesaler.
As has been interpreted over the years in the U.S. (and enacted more recently in other countries) a
dissention is drawn in this regard between horizontal and vertical agreements. In certain
circumstances it can be established that firms that are collaborating on some socially valuable
activity may need to agree to do away with competition so to establish the cooperative
relationship. In this, the European Community law goes beyond the objective of maximizing
welfare and explicitly allows some Restrictive contracts if they promote progressiveness and
consumers ultimately stand to gain. The Japanese law also allows for actions in contravention of
the law provided they are in the public interest . It would be dangerous to allow the kind of
discretion in interpretation possible under the Japanese law. Any exceptions that are permissible
should be clearly laid down. However, we recommend that Restrictive contract which are designed
to promote use of energy efficient manufacturing processes and production of Eco friendly products
or conservation of natural resources should be explicitly permitted as

Magical Realism, By The Tears Of Tita, Weeping Of The Guests
Wouldn t it be fun if we had Magical realism in every book we read to make us more intrigued to
what we are reading about? Without magical realism a story would be numb and have no
expression. Magical realism is a narrative fiction and it includes different elements to actually
express a real life view of the world. For instance in the book Like Water for Chocolate, the author
Esquivel includes magical realism. By using magical realism, she shows the expressions that Tita
the main characterhas to face and the emotional barriers she also faces. Esquivel incorporates
magical realism in each chapter and it signifies something in the noveland connects to it. Esquivel

With this the author is trying guide the reader to the following chapter. Esquivel guides the
reader through the novel and makes the story enthusiastic to develop an open minded setting.
She brings us to the next chapter and incorporates magical realism in which she talks about the
feelings of the guests when they had ate the cake Tita made for Pedro and Rosaura s wedding.
Esquivel states but the weeping was just the first symptom of a strange intoxication an acute
attack of pain and frustration that seized the guests and scattered them across the patio and the
grounds and in the bathrooms, all of them wailing over lost love (pg.39). These symptoms the
guest had were all he feelings Tita had inside her when making the cake, they were being
transmitted to them. Further on Lam states while Tita was preparing it, she was frustrated, sad,
an angry about the wedding. Her sister was marrying her love of her life and she was crushed.
This scene represents the power of Tita s emotions and how she can negatively affect others
through her cooking . Her emotions tell a lot in this novel and makes us feel what the author is
trying to portray. As you could see the author Esquivel adds a lot of magical realism to make it
more intrigued and an open minded setting. She furthermore keeps adding on and still continue to
guide us through the story. Another example, are the feelings of Gertrudis in which she

The Pros And Cons Of Absolutism
Absolutism, a form of government where the rulers word is law. All aspects are decided by the
one in charge and his word is absolute. In this form of government the ruler will typically have
trusted advisers but besides simple recommendations they have no real power. An absolute
government has all aspects such as religion, political standing and economy decided by its ruler.
In 1961 thomas hobbes wrote that the passions that incline men to peace are the fear of death.
When a man wants something he can fight and take a chance to get it. Most men fear that chance
as they may die and lose everything, but the thought of coming out on top is enough to encourage
these actions in individuals. These individuals can incite others who would have normally turned
down the challenge. In a case when the odds are not in favor of those goals set by an individual
leading others one must not hesitate with what must be done. Hobbes understood that if there was
no concise ruler that there was a sort of stutter when doing things taking action required to go
through the proper channels. When 10 men are in control they must all agree but when only one
man is in control all that must be done is let them decide entirely.
When Bossuet talks about power he states that it must be employed with fear and self restraint as
it is a blessing bestowed upon the ruler by god. Bossuet says that the throne is not for man but a
place for man to speak the will of god. Unlike in absolutism Bosset says that these

The Role Of Spna As A Cell Wall
Figure 1: Kaplan Meier survival curves of wax worms infected with labelled dose (CFUs) of
GAS SpnA variants over 3 days **** P 0.05 (One way ANOVA) A methyl green assay allows
quantification of DNAse activity by measuring the change in absorbance as the methyl green
DNA complex is degraded (Sinicropi et al. 1994). The SpnA knockout had significantly lower
DNAse function than wildtype GAS whilst the non functional complements showed similar
activity to the knockouts and the functional complements showed an intermediate function in
between that of the knockout and that of the wildtype (Fig. 5) All strains showed higher activity
than buffer alone (Fig. 5). Discussion Previous experiments have characterised the role of SpnA
as a cell wall anchored DNAse important for immune evasion through the destruction of
neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) (Buchanan et al. 2006). While small scale in vivo
experiments in mice have been conducted (Hasegawa et al. 2010), a Galleria mellonella
infection model allows for a larger scale screening of mutants to further refine the role of SpnA
in GAS virulence. This is due to the lower cost, easy maintenance, small size and suitability of the
wax worm (Ramarao et al. 2012). In the above experiments, the role of SpnA in GAS virulence
was clearly demonstrated by the significant difference in killing and the health index of the
caterpillars between wild type and О”SpnA. They also revealed that complementation with cell

Integration Of Math And Science
Integration is a topic should be talked about because it is a topic that has multiple view points some
negative and some positives. No matter the viewpoints it is important to consider how integration
impacts the students. At the end of the day what students retain is what matters and retaining
information can happen in a variety of different ways. Integration provides a way to connect
multiple subjects and allows students to make connections. Integration can be difficult for teachers
to teach because the integration does not fit well, but the outcome of integration is beneficial. With
the heavy weight of assessments and standardized, tests teachers need to make sure that whatever
they teach needs to connect to standards and unites. Sciencehas become a subject that has been put
on the back burner because tests like Maps and Paws testing do not assess science. There are
many factors that affect what and how teachers teach. Integration of math and science is one way
to teach that allows teachers cover more than one major subject. Integration allows teachers to
teach science and math in the same environment that allows students to flourish. The classroom is
filled with a variety of different objectives and lessons and as teachers we need to make sure we
are using our time the best ability. The big question of this research is whether integrating math and
science is beneficial for students in the classroom. Each lesson and activity needs a purpose in the

The World Of Reading And The English Language
If there s anything harder than learning how to read for the very first time, it s learning how to
read with a parent whose first language is not English. Learning how to read can get pretty
interesting when you re trying to wander into the world of reading and the English language.
However, this small obstacle never stopped me from learning how to read or even from readingat
all. Now that I am eighteen years old, I have a big love for reading. Reading is a virtual escape
that allows me to jump into many alternate universes. My journey to the world of reading and the
English language was not a smooth one, but it turned out to be a rewarding experience.
Throughout my years in elementary school, I resided in Miami which obviously has a big
Hispanic population. There are people who speak Spanish or are bilingual like me. Yes, English
is not my first language, it s Spanish. Despite the fact that I am bilingual, English is the language
that I am more comfortable with. However, before I entered elementary school my mom had
placed me in a day care that would teach me English. That turned out to be a failure as we never
received any lessons in English and the English that I did learn was not quite appropriate for a four
year old. That never stopped my mom though. She had already been living in the United Statesfor
almost 20 years so she knew enough English to communicate with others. My mother values
education and learning a lot, so she would buy me books to improve my

Software as a Service
Many years ago, to use software, businesses and organizations purchase traditionally packaged
applications, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, and install them locally onto their
computers. In the 1990 s, upon the expansion of the Internet, Application Service Provider (ASP)
was introduced wherein businesses were provided with software that they can access over the
Internetthrough a web browser. But then, service and financial failures occurred as a result of
actions such as rushing the market offerings before issues were solved and failing to cut the costs
for the customers at a greater extent because of having a unique server for each customer. Those
scalability problems or the ability to adapt to increasing demands, and reliability problems
eventually led to its downfall. Software as a Service(SaaS) or also known as on demand then
evolved from the ASP model. With SaaS, software is not installed in the customer s computerbut in
the provider s server somewhere else, and to access the software, the customer needs to connect
to that server through either a thin client, which is a computer or a program that relies on another
computer, or a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.
Basically, it is also a software delivery model. But unlike the ASP, it has increased user awareness
and is a multi tenant based service which means that repairs, updates, and upgrades are applied
once for all customers instead of one at a time, making

Comic Books Are Important For The World
Comic books are important to the world for the fact that they represent a portion of the population
that like to fantasize that they can escape the hardships of everyday life. In comic books people
can be a hero, a villain, or a bystander that learns an important lesson from observing the two
(Bendis 2).
Grant Morrison discusses his views on the difference of the ages and their views on comics:
Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of
everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman
can possibly run a multibillion dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when
the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it ... Show more content on

The busy lifestyle, the children s needs, all those requirements play a role in time constraints.
Comic books offer a solution to the everyday, active person (Bendis 1). The reader is usually short
on time so he or she must be intrigued immediately for the comic to gain full attention. As soon as
the reader commits himself or herself, the situation changes. He or she is thrown into an unknown
situation that demands total attention (1). The plot is pulled together and the hero is cast in
circumstances that demand a resolve. A confrontation follows and against seemingly impossible
odds, the hero finds an answer within an unlikely source that the reader would believe they could
also find if put in the same situation. Once the comic book is finished being read, the readers
recognize that very little time has gone by and they can continue on with their normal lives.
The understanding of the comic book doesn t end there. The reader now has time to think on what
they just read, what could have been done, what should have been done and other possible
outcomes to the plot. This can be done while daydreaming at school or bored to death at work. The
importance of contemplating the different endings of a comic book is the fact that it makes the
reader truly think ( Bendis 2). The reader must have a sort of interactive imagination that allows
them to comprehend to underlying lesson within every comic.
Comic books are almost a necessity in life because people

Usually automated mining consists of two types of technology with the first dealing with the
operations and software advancement and second one helps in mining vehicles and equipment with
computerized technology by applying robots. The technology is offered in three forms full
automation, remote control and teleoperation. Handheld remote control helps in mining bulldozers
that operate in risky conditions like underground mining, blast areas and are operated with the use
of handheld remote. Teleoperated technology also helps in mining vehicles by a operator but at a
safe distance from the mining location with use of positioning software, cameras. Lastly whole
automation, providing actual autonomous command of more than one mining vehicle. Robotic
technology is used mostly for accelerating, ignition, and brake without the need for operator.

The Management Styles Of Chief Davis And Chief Fortier
In comparing the management styles of Chief Davis and Chief Fortier, one could argue that Chief
Davis approached the management of his department as a statesman, whereas Chief Fortier
managed as an administrator. Citing Chief Davis clear vision for his department and effective
management style (Cordner, 2014), Davis, unlike Fortier in the delegation of authority and duties
placed qualified individuals in positions to assure duties /issues were handled. Whereas, Fortier s
general implementation of departmental change was forced upon the officers and no assurance of
competency or training was given. Additionally, as Fortier reached outside of the department in
attempts to reach recommended goals, the Administrative style becomes obvious as the need to
reach a goal is met by the most effective means, as evidenced in the promotions and outside hiring
practices introduced.
Likewise as officers and the community alike were accepting and receptive to Davis and the
managerial style he presented, Fortier s tenure with the department was less than stellar, receiving a
vote of no confidence by those he managed, and betrayal from the supervising staff.
The internal roles exhibited in the management of each department included leading or leadership
by Chief Davis. While both provided varying measures of management to their departments, the
level of management Fortier provided was not geared towards creating or guiding, but rather the

Sampling
Sampling will be conducted by using the sampling procedure known as cluster random sampling. In
simple random sampling, the sampling unit is an individual; however, in cluster random sampling,
the sampling unit is an existing group of individuals. (Mertler 2016). For this study the sampling
unit is the school buildings that were randomly selected from the data criteria of a public, non
specialty, Hartford elementary school. Of the schools randomly selected every student in grades 1 to
5 and every selected student s parent or guardian will be surveyed. Approximately 2,000 students
will be given the survey varying based on attendance that day. Therefor, approximately 2,000
parent or guardians will also receive a survey. A larger sampling population allows results to be
generalized to the larger population. (Mertler 2016). When conducting survey research, it is
advisable to survey a minimum of 350 individuals. (Mertler 2016). By surveying a larger
population, I can account for the lower response rate that is typically associated with mail surveys.
(Mertler 2016).

Pasadena City College Internship Report
During my past three years at Pasadena City College I was able to explore courses and narrow
my interests in a way that may not have been possible at an expensive university. While I have
always had an interest in the technical and scientific disciplines, out of high school I was
unfocused. I wanted to be a part of something that impacted my community in a positive manner.
When first looking into careers I never considered a technical based career, mainly due to family
career history. However, as I began to excel in math and MESA organizers got more involved in my
success I realized there was a space for my interest in STEM.
Throughout my academic endeavor I have earned a spot in two very diverse internships. My first
internship was with LADOT. It focused on my individual skills and how to apply them to singular
tasks. I was primarily involved in GIS mapping and worked alongside traffic and computer
engineers. Though this was an informative and rigorous internship I found my true inspiration in

(Kennedy and Dana 408). When allusions are used in a poem, it is assumed that the poet and the
reader share a common body of knowledge. The poems grass by Carl Sandburg and English con
salsa by Gina ValdГЁs are both similar in the sense that they both employ allusions in their
narratives. Furthermore, the allusions in these poems discusses history and reflecting on the role of
a person in history. The poem grass has five allusions which are Austerlitz, Waterloo, Gettysburg,
Ypres, and Verdun. On the other hand, English con salsa alludes to Xochicalco, Tuxpan River,
Benito Juarez, George Washington, Donald Duck, Batman, Teocaltiche, UruapГn, Oaxacan,
JuchitГ n, Zapotec, Nahuatl, Santa Tristeza, Santa Alegria, Santo Todolopuede, Lake PГtzcuaro,
Jalisco, Santee, and La Jolla. Interestingly, both poems discuss renowned history through the
illusions. In grass, line 1 in the first stanza states that Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo
(Sandburg 126). The use of the word Austerlitz points out to the historic Battle of Austerlitz.
Historically, the Battle of Austerlitz occurred in 1805 involving armies from French, Austria, and
Russia. There was a high number of casualties in the battle, which the phrase discusses by stating
pile the bodies high (Sandburg 126). Similarly,

The Main Features And Characteristics Of A Slum
A slum is a heavily populated urban informal settlement characterized by substandard housing and
squalor. While slums differ in size and other characteristics, most lack reliable sanitation services,
supply of clean water, reliable electricity, law enforcement and other basic services. Slum
residences vary from shanty houses to professionally built dwellings that because of poor quality
construction or provision of services have deteriorated into slums.
Main features and characteristics of the slums are poor connectivity to the main city, lack of
proper sanitation conditions and lack of electricity and are densely populated and generally have a
very high occupancy rate. Slums are usually characterized by urban breeding grounds for social ...

The Indian Supreme Court has also recognized the right to water and proper sanitation conditions
under the right to life provision of its constitution. Hence according to the above said statements, the
rights of the people living in the slum areas are often violated and are often hampered also.
A UN expert group has created an operational definition of a slum as an area that combines to
various extents the following characteristics: inadequate access of safe water; inadequate access to
sanitation and other infrastructure; poor structural quality of housing; overcrowding; and insecure
residential status. To these one might add the low socioeconomic status of residents of these areas.
The problem of slums have started because of excess migration of people from the rural areas to
the urban areas and when the people who have migrated do not get proper place to settle down and
live, the settlement of the slum areas (mostly in the outer parts of the city) takes place. But the
settlements in these slums are not proper and lack basic facilities of sanitation, electricity,
connection to the roads, proper construction of houses

Essay on Miles Davis and the Evolution of Jazz
Who was Miles Davis and why was he such an important element in the music of Jazz? Miles
Davis, as we would know him, was born Miles Dewey Davis in Alton, Illinois on the 25th of May
1926 to a middle class black family.. A couple of years later, Miles went on to St. Louis where he
grew up. Since he was a youngster, Mileshobby was to collect records and play them over without
getting tired of them. Since his family knew Miles was so interested in the music of his time,
primarily Jazz, for his thirteenth birthday Miles received his first trumpet, although he had been
playing since the age of nine. With this Miles began to practice and play his trumpet along with his
records. Who would have known that just three years later, at the... Show more content on

Then by 1949 was when the real business started. Miles went solo. With the tremendous amount of
experience he accumulated, the recordings he had made, the people he knew, and with the hook
ups Miles developed, he should not find any difficulty finding success in the evolution of Jazz.
Before even hitting a year as a soloist, Miles Davis put out his first album as a soloist named Birth
of the Cool. This was definitely something to be marked down on the timeline of Jazz. The
album was accurately named, being responsible for the stardom of Cool Jazz, a movement that
the very new to the Jazz movement, Miles Davis, invented within his first year of success. The
Cool Jazz, which featured Gil Evans, first appeared in the latter days of 1949. A while after
discovering Cool Jazz, Davis moved on to change his style into Hard Bop. During this period of
his life, Miles suffered from heroine drug addiction and that was the cause for his irregular work
schedule. It finally hit Miles that he must overcome his addiction if he wanted to continue to
work as a musician. So Miles took all he had left and began a new life, drug free. This was when his
classic song Walkin was released. 1955 is known to be Miles breakthrough year. The indication of
his rising again in music was clearly stated at his performance in the Newport Jazz Festival. Davis
continued to record and release and popularize himself in the next couple of years and this is

If God Was A Banker
This chapter explores the narrative built around multinational banking culture in two novels, If
God was a Banker (2007) written by Ravi Subramaniam, and Puppet on the Fast Track (2011) by
Ilika Ranjan. The two novels revolve around a major phase of socio economic transition in India
that began in the 1980s and continued throughout the 1990s. This period ushered in the concept of
open door policy, liberalization, privatization, and globalization, all of which became buzz words in
the Indian economy. As multinational companiesand banks entered India, the banking scenario was
leaping forward, beyond the nationalized structure, towards experimentation with the multinational
banking concept. The two authors, Ravi Subramaniam, and Ilika... Show more content on

The beauty of these works of fiction is the close depiction of the moment of a moment, verbal and

customer care, or neglect.
If God was a Banker
Ravi Subramaniam s If God was a Banker is the story of Swami and Sandeep. They are graduates
of premier management institutes of India and go on to become top honchos of a leading MNC bank
in India, the New York International. They are both academically brilliant despite hailing from
different economic backgrounds. In the story, Swami represents all that is righteous, portrayed as
a humble, simple, and unassuming character, who struggled his way up from a life shrouded by
dire economic crises. On the other hand, Sandeep is portrayed as an arrogant, competitive and
flamboyant young man, whose father is an army officer, and his mother a doctor, and accordingly,
with a cushioned upbringing. In his career, Sandeep s over ambition takes him to crack dubious
deals. He runs on the crutches of nefarious doings and negative networks. Furthermore, in his
personal life he cheats on his wife, while avoiding all scruples of personal and professional
relationships. Aditya, who is the mentor of the two, soon learns that he can trust the

The Similarities Between Star Wars And Religion
The science fiction film, Star Wars, has a had a significant impact on modern culture today as it
relates to Greek mythology and religion. The popular film created by George Lucas uses many
symbols to demonstrate the similarities between the movie and culture, such as the Tusken Raiders
and the Nio. Fortunately, Star Warsstays open to all religions, allowing for different interpretations
of all characters. The concepts presented in the movie allow for all viewers to further their
knowledge of religion and understand the past in a more logical way.
A similarity between Star Wars and religion are heralds and R2 D2. A herald was someone who
carried a message, sometimes causing an adventure to begin. In the religion of Christianity,
Matthew was a herald because he shared how Jesus, rejected by Israel, sent the disciples to
preach the gospel to the world. In Star Wars, R2 D2 delivered the message that Princess Leia was
in trouble and she needed help from Obi Wan Kenobi. This lead Luke Skywalkeron an adventure to
figure out who Obi Wan Kenobi was and why Princess Leia was in trouble. Therefore, both heralds
and R2 D2 represent the messengers needed in order for a quest to unfold.
Another comparison between Star Wars and religion are the Nio and the Tusken Raiders. According
to Japanese tradition, the Nio were a group of guards that protected the Buddhist temples from those
trying to enter. Today, two muscular structures stand in front of some of the Buddhist temples in

When an employee is hired, the managers discuss the company policies and standards while

The manager informed me that this approach works for their company because it creates a fun

One of the Best Shots Ever Essay
One of the Best Shots Ever
The soft moon rock jumped off the face of the club, as I moved through impact. All I saw was
the perfect arch of the rock as it hurled through the air and over a small rock infested river that
runs in front of the oblong green. I had just pulled off one of the best shots ever in my golf career.
It all started on a brisk August morning. That day I had to get up before the first rays of the sun
could be noticed on the horizon. I awoke to the droning sound of my green digital alarm clock, and
immediately jumped into a hot steaming shower to wake me up from a sleepless night. As I
jumped out of the shower, I realized that I only had thirty minutes to be completely ready and do my
morning warm up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I felt as though nothing was going to help me out, so I had to have a perfect short game that day.
I took a venture over to the practice putting green. I noticed that a plethora of golf bags had
gathered on the cement next to the green. My greenside play was where it needed to be but not
perfect. I was as ready for the day as I would ever be.
I started out to my designated tee box. It happened to be one of the farthest away points on the
course. A cart came by that was going to the same place that I was going, so I got a ride. As I
stood on the tee box of hole six, I realized that this hole was one that had plagued me all year
long. I had always been fine right up until my last shot to the green. A creek that ran right in the
front of the green had taken almost every one of my golf balls. I had never completed the shot in a
pressure situation.
First, I faced an upcoming tee shot on a long, dogleg right par 5. I unzipped my baby blue
Hotchkiss/Cedaredge bag and pulled out a brand new shinny sleeve of Ben Hogan golf balls. I
teed up the ball in the uneven front portion of the tee box, and I zeroed in on a weeping willow
tree down the middle right of the fairway. All I needed was a good drive to start this round. As I
approached the ball I noticed the saplings to my right and wondered if there was any way to shank,
hit it straight right, a wood into them. I cleared my thoughts by concentrating on

Examples Of Moral Philosophy
Moral Philosophy is the rational study of the meaning and justification of moral claims. A moral
claim evaluates the rightness or wrongness of an action or a person s character . For example,
stealing is wrong claims that the act of stealing is wrong, and people should not be dishonest claims
a character trait (i.e. dishonesty) is wrong (Gert and Gert). Descriptively, moralityrefers to certain
codes of conduct put forward by a society or a group (such as a religion) or accepted by an
individual for his/her own behavior. Normatively, it refers to a code of conduct that, given
specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational persons. ( What Is Moral Philosophy? ).

exposure to such theories. During my research, I came across the article The Nature of Morality
and Moral Theories in which I discovered excerpts of philosophical theories and based on this
article, I will briefly mention significant points of four theories. First and foremost, is the theory
of Moral Subjectivism, which implies that an individual s thoughts and feelings determine moral
actions; as oppose to a set of moral principles. Following, is the theory Ethical Egoism, which
states that determining right and wrong is in accordance with one s self interest. Also, that it is
immoral to act contrary to one s own self interest. Thirdly, some individuals agree that culture
determines what actions are morally right or wrong; and are advocates of Cultural Relativism.
Their actions are not guided by a list of moral rules or universal norms. Next, Virtue Ethics claim
that right and wrong are characterized in terms of acting in accordance with the traditional virtues;
making a good person . ( The Nature Morality and Moral Theories ). These theories along with
numerous others, suggests various means for defining human behavior from an ethical

Summary of the Ballet quot;Giselle quot; Essays
Giselle is a romantic ballet choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Adolphe Adam
beautifully composes the music. This ballet was originally performed in Paris in 1841. The
production that we viewed in class was from La Salla. Giselle is one of the last ballets of the
Romantic era.
The element that stood out the most to me was how effectively the music and the footwork
corresponded. The best examples of this are seen through the dancers solos. Especially Albrecht s
solo, his feet glide on the stage at the same tempo as the music. Similarly, Giselle s graceful
footwork is truly amazing. I really like the similarities between the choreographed footwork and the
music, it makes Giselle seem much more elegant and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also enjoyed the mixture of solo dancing in comparison with the peasant dancing in the first act. I
thought the two coincided very well. Additionally, the choreographer, made excellent use of the
stage space. There was a good variation of movement across the stage, without unnecessary
distraction.
Furthermore, in Giselle the viewer notices are the difference in costumes, compared with today s
more contemporary ballets. Giselle is dressed as a girl, not like a typical ballerina. The length of
her skirt is very long, but stops short enough for you to allow seeing her footwork. There is also a
clear distinction among the high society and the peasants. When the peasants are dancing, their
costumes are all in the same, more muted color hue, whereas when the high class is dancing or on
stage they have noticeably ornate costumes. This is an important element to this ballet. It also makes
this difference more easily distinguishable to those people who do not know the whole story line
behind Giselle.
There are two more very noticeable elements of Giselle , facial expression, and body movement.
The facial expression throughout both acts is very noticeable. For example, in Act One, you can
see by the way Giselle looks around; she is very shy and obedient to her mother. By watching her
face, you see her batting her eyes at Albrecht and flirting with him in a very innocent

Take Me Out Critique
On this critique, I am going to discussed Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg, directed by Andrew
Paul and the aspects of it. The play was about a baseball team, however, it addresses the social
issues in modern American life such as racial and sexual identity1. In this play, it uses baseball to
describe the beauty of democracy. What I am going to discuss on this critique is the set designs, the
level of participation, lighting, and the theme of the play.
When I entered into the theatre to take a seat, I noticed the stage was set up with showers, lockers,
and small baseball field. The showers were placed in the back of the stage, the baseball players
lockers were placed on the sides, and there was painted baseball field in the middle of the ... Show

Throughout the play, it was amazing how they used the lights to transition when tragic events
occurred in play like a cliffhanger. In part three, when Shane confesses about the wrong deeds
Kippy did, the light shines only at Darren and Kippy to make the event look serious; which made
event suspenseful for the audience to capture their attention.
The theme Take Me Out was sexuality or race identity doesn t change the personality of the
person or what they do. In the beginning of the play, the players didn t care about sexuality or
race because they all loved playing baseball and winning. Also, they used baseball to describe
having the freedom to express themselves. Which was true, because sexuality and race is just a
part of who we are as a person.
How the set designs, level of participation, lighting, and the theme made Take Me Out stands out
to me. How the set designs help captures the setting of the story so, the audience can feel they
were on an actual baseball field and locker room. The lighting and level of participation help to
build up suspense to the story and made the audience wanting to continue every time it left with a
cliffhanger. Overall, the play was amazing due to all the techniques in the play so they can send the
message across and make them acknowledge the problem in

The Talbot business must meet this Act so it must make sure that the employees are given a

to give the employees of the business a statement of the terms and conditions within 28 days of

The business must also make sure that they have clear guidelines in the terms of the maternity and

the employees right to have maternity and paternity pay leave so they must provide this. The
business must allow the female employees to have 26 weeks ordinary leave and another 26 weeks

maternity leave. The business must give the male employees two weeks paid of paternity leave.
The business must not refuse to give the employees of the business maternity and paternity paid
leave as the employees would have the right to.
The employers in Talbot business must also make sure that they have discipline and grievance
procedures implemented into the business. Also they must follow them when dismissing the
employees as this would make it fair. The Talbot business must not also sack employees of the

Football And Pop Culture
As Americans, we all have multiple perspectives on life and what it brings to the table. We have
our opinions on what we think is the most common pop culture to man. Although there are many,
there is one thing that all Americans can probably agree on and cannot argue about, well,
sometimes. In my opinion, football would be the sport that most of the population can relate to
while it brings everyone together as it has for many generations. It plays a huge role in
popularity; therefore, football has made the name for itself as the most popular American sport
across the nation. It is a common characteristic in everyday lives and it will continue to live on
and prosper through many generations to come. I have learned how football is one of the most
common, classic characteristic of American culture over the years and my story behind my
knowledge can tell it all. I would like to start off and say that we could come up with many different
characteristics that are common to American culture. Instead of naming them all, we can oversee
why American footballis clearly one of them within people across the nation. With it being a very
high demanding sport in pop culture, I would like to say that people across the nation can
familiarize themselves more with football rather than other sports; for example, basketball,
softball, or even baseball. Whether it is a Friday night high school football game under the lights,

Mary doesn t recall the negative effects that Jim Crow had on African Americans. Mary believed
that African Americans made the choice to endure some of the oppressions that they faced. For

Mary s statement reflects a form of covert racism. This quote tends to depict the hardships of
African Americans as merely inconvenient aspects of everyday life. Instead of viewing Jim Crow

expected to know. In this essay we will look at the pros and cons of including violence in children s
literature.
Fairy tales originate from the past and majority of the stories include some sort of gory detail
and violence. They originated from oral traditions by adults telling stories to other adults, as
these fairy tales were not meant to before the children. Each tale was set for that specific era or
time based on the reality which was often a morbid one. Therefore we view old literature as gory
and violent. Each generation had a different reality or gore to it.
Many parents seek to have children s literature which contains violence removed or banned from
all access to young children. They complain that the subject matter of these books is too much
for children to handle. The parents do this as they believe it to be a form of protection from the
dangerous world we live in. they know all too well that what is expressed in the books is
happening in reality.by reading these violent books it evokes a sense of fear or the need to harm
oneself or others. Therefore stopping the chance of them reading these books is shielding them
from the hurt and pain which it is associated with. Literature and media are the main reasons for
violence in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is An American Political Cartoon
American political cartoons often follow the general discontent of the government by American
people. They run the scale from economics to foreign policy to the overwhelming popular topic of
organization. Benjamin Franklin is arguably one of the most fascinating figures in American
history. He was an author, printer, satirist, political theorist, politician etc and he was one of the
United Statesmost famous Founding Fathers. Franklin owned and ran the Pennsylvania Gazette, a
Philadelphia based newspaper that featured the Join, or Die cartoon on May 9, 1754. The image in

There so much said and written about foreign aid that it has become difficult to justify its
effectiveness. But if we look at the overall picture in the eye of citizens of a developing country, an
honest assessment might conclude that progress has been made. Though, profound social
disparities and extreme poverty are still lurking in some parts of this fragile planet.
Foreign aid is the transfer of capital, goods, or services from one country to another. And aid can be
given in numerous forms from humanitarian emergency assistance, to food aid, military assistance,
and so on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This approach was designed to undermine the communist government that was corrupt and biased
that favored urban population over rural sections. Their pattern of distribution reflected political ties
and proximity rather than absolute humanitarian need. By avoiding official structures and working
with commanders at the local level, NGOs inevitably accentuated national regional tensions and
legitimized military strongmen. In this manner, foreign aid with the ultimate goal of peace building
with efforts tied to impartialness has turned a page of conflict.
Positive.
Wars, conflicts, and struggles are sites of innovation, leading to the creation of new forms of
legitimacy and protection. (M Duffield, Global Governance and the New Wars: the Merging of
Development and Security, London: Zed Books, 2001.) They are essential for the advancement of
peoples that are affected by it. They are essential in the transformation of infrastructures, institutions
and social structures. And those affected societies will appreciate the availability of such foreign
aids to allow them to rebuild and restructure the remains of their struggles.
Consequently, a second generation strategy materialized as NGOs moved from humanitarian to
rehabilitation and developmental approach with the focus in rural areas. NGOs sought to disengage
from the privileged relationships built with particular commanders during the jihad years. They
experimented with local institutional development approaches through

Knowledge Is Power In The Invisible Man, By Ralph Ellison
Abtin Ghajarieh Sepanlou
ENG 4U
Ms. Smith
19 July 2017
Mind Does Not Matter
The Ghanaian Diplomat Kofi Annan once said, Knowledge is power. Information is liberating.
Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family . Although this phrase may
contain truth, our society has a long history where they heavily reject the notions of social
responsibility and social education. This is due to the fact that those in power are not able to see its
potential, as they themselves are without knowledge. Even though knowledge is often attributed to
success depending on convenience, certain time periods contained cruel and unusual treatment of a
large group of people based on a variety of prejudices. Using this perspective can help better
understand the message of the novel, The Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison. The story follows the
life of a black man during the late 1920 s or early 1930 s, when racism was at its peak. In this
novel, the author uses literary elements to emphasize that knowledge and intelligence do not
necessarily equal power, but those who lack knowledge abuse their power. The author
accomplishes this by showing us the power of ignorance, and how feigning ignorance can lead to a
sense of power.
Knowledge is seen as the polar opposite of ignorance. Hence, the narrator s speech in the beginning
of the novel is the first sign that ignorance plagues the majority of the characters in the novel. The
author shows this when the narrator attempts to present

WHY SHOULD GDP DATA BE COATED FOR TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO RATHER THAN
GNP DATA
For example in the reading of the budget the finance minister used GDP figures to talk about the
government s management of the economy in the year (2010 2011). GDP statics however does
state to a population listening to the budget about the efficiency of the government in
stimulating or increasing production from locally owned factors of production. GDP statics for
Trinidad and Tobago however are always more attractive than GNP statics as demonstrated in
table 1.3 and graph 1.2. Because GDP statics look and sound superior they are the choice of
politicians who always aim to impress. From graph 1.2 we see that when consideration is given
to net property income from abroad GNP is always less than GDP for the Trinidad and Tobago
economy. This is because of the large multinational (MNC) presence in

Marijuana Side Effects
Perhaps more so than with any other illegal drug, side effects resulting from marijuana use can
vary widely. What side effects are felt is chiefly determined by the user s tolerance to
tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the active ingredient of marijuana plants. As with many other
mind altering drugs, a user s state of mind before using the drug plays a large part in the quality
of the experience, as well as what side effects are experienced. Side Effects in the Short Term
People who use marijuana do so chiefly to experience a change in their perception, increase their
relaxation, and to feel good in general. While consuming marijuana is usually reported to be a
pleasureful activity by most users, harsh experiences known as bad trips can occur.... Show more

Respiratory problems may arise from continued use as well as the usual coughing and wheezing
associated with smoking marijuana. Other common side effects of marijuana are decreased
motor skills, light headedness, and redness of the eyes. Long Term Effects of Marijuana Use
When a person has been using marijuana regularly over an extended period of time, many
changes in mood and in some cases, mental health, may take place. Short and long term memory
are both decreased with repeated usage of the drug. As tolerance to the psychoactive chemical
THC is increased, as is the amount of marijuana needed to afford the marijuana user an
acceptable high. A user s mood may be affected negatively by this need to use more drugs to get
high. After use of marijuana has been stopped, withdrawal symptoms can occur. The most
common is dissatisfaction with life while not high, resulting in a desire to consume the drug.
Trouble sleeping is another minor symptom that results from cessation of marijuana usage. Some
studies have even shown that marijuana users are more likely to develop mental health issues as
severe as psychosis as opposed to people who do not use. On the whole, it isn t smart to use
marijuana unless it is prescribed to you by a licensed

Girl before a Mirror
Girl before a Mirror, an oil on canvas painting by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, shows two sides
of a girl; one which is illustrated with a dark tone and one with a vibrant colorful tone. This
painting is bright; colors are at full intensity and are arranged next to their complements,
producing a visual relationship between shape and form. Forms are used to draw the viewer s
eye across the canvas where circular shapes, repeating throughout the work, are compensated by
the pattern of diagonal lines of the background. The viewer observes the girl s profile and full
frontal image, looking into a mirror and noticing a different image of herself. In order to achieve
this effect, Picasso uses a range of formal elements that highlight the... Show more content on

The use of geometric shapes in this painting allows the subject to be viewed in both a recognizable
and unrecognizable state at the same time. Overall, geometric shapes and patterns play an essential
role in what the viewer sees, which is further supported by a powerful color palate.
Picasso uses texture and an array of complementary and analogous colors characterized by a
range of hues, values, and light to create a dramatic difference between the two subjects. The
dominant and repetitive colors in the painting are green, yellow, lavender, red, and blue. The use
of color, especially when used with the different geometric shapes, creates both a range of values
as well as contrasts to adjacent areas. The profile and frontal head have lighter values such as
yellow and lavender, whereas the reflection, painted with a rough charcoal texture has a
dominance of blue, especially around the face, reflecting darker values. The use of complementary
colors such as red and green create a brighter canvas, while the use of analogous combinations such
as green and yellow, and green and blue blend well together. Overall, the reds and greens are bright
throughout, giving intensity to the painting while the use of soft blue in the reflection, is not as
intense and warm. Picasso also uses complementary colors of red and green against lavender in the
figure to make the figure prominent. In the reflection, analogous colors are used throughout, but
predominately on the top with purple

Clark Motivation For College Essay
Clark needs help! He needs helps choosing a college to apply to. Clark s college choice is difficult
and and relies on a few psychological concepts that help him make a decision. These concepts
consist of Availability Heuristic, Compliance, Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Motivation, and Self fulfilling
Prophecy.
The dictionary definition of Availability Heuristicis a mental shortcut that relies on immediate
examples that come to mind. This concept is common in our culture today; you may see a news
report on recent shark attacks and it may lead you to believe that shark attacks are a common
thing. This means that Clark may have made a conclusion about one of the colleges prematurely.
Perhaps he saw a news report, or heard something about abductions happening on and around the
campus of the college that he is choosing. This may lead him to not want to go to said college in
fear of being abducted, however without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reversely, there is Extrinsic Motivation: where you are motivated to do something for an
external reward, such as a trophy, or even to avoid punishment. A good example is sports, one
person might be playing to win (extrinsic motivation), and another person may be playing just to
have fun (intrinsic motivation). Clark may want to go to the college with the best education
because he wants to better himself, and gain a lot of knowledge. But Clark may want to go to a
college with the best reputation, so when jobs look at what college he went to they can be
impressed. Clark may have been offered scholarships, if this is the case he might be motivated to
save money and go to the college that is offering him the most in scholarship money. This is an
example of Extrinsic Motivation. However, Clark might turn down the large amount of scholarship
money just to go to a better school, this is an example of Intrinsic

Democracy And The Liberal Democracy
Democracy varies in every country depending on the type of government or regime they have.
There is the liberal democracy, which is all about giving people their rights and liberties;
everything is done through fair voting and electing. The people are aware of everything that
happens in their government. Illiberal democracies are basically the same as liberal, but the
people in power are more secretive of their activities, and there is less civil liberty. It is
essentially a partial democracy. Now Authoritarian regimes designate any political system that
concentrates power in the hands of one leader or a small elite. There are no free elections and
very little regard for the law. Political institutions, social structures, and the democratic rule of law
all affect liberal, illiberal, and authoritarian regimes democratic quality differently. First, liberal
democracies are more open with the people. The philosophical traditions of a liberal democratic
republic are democracies, liberalism, and republicanism. Democracies try to be equal with all, it
stresses public rights, it reaches for what the majority wants, and it is very protective against
authoritarianism. In liberalism, natural rights can t be violated, private rights are very important,
no one is above the law, and the government has no rights. In republicanism the needs of the many
outweigh the needs of the few. The chief executive is chosen through lections, and every citizen has
their right to vote. Political

Hurricane Devastation Of Hurricane Katrina

United States. The category 5 hurricane which at first was on course to hit Florida drifted into the

dead, affected hundreds of thousands and left billions of dollars in damage. The largest number of

the missing funds was a crime because it violated not only the state but also federal laws regarding
the use of false documentation to receive funds. Hurricane Katrina caused the activity of the
opportunists. As is common, disasters bring out the worst and the best of any individual in our
society.
As a result of fraud and as a result of the investigations many people ended up arrested. These
people were charged for breaking the law by taking funds illicitly from the Red Cross which were
destined to victims of Hurricane Katrina. In a way the punishment was appropriate, but at the
same time, the squandered money that these people never made it to the hands of the people who
really needed it. The ideal would have been to have these individuals give back what was given to
them through a good will deed and then serve a sentence for the bad action.
It is irritable to learn that there are always people who take advantage of very difficult situations,
in this case from the hurricane disaster in New Orleans. Society often is affected by many negative
decisions human beings make. Logically, a disaster

  • 2. North Land Winery Case Study Essay examples ENGG439 Case Study Week 5 North Land Winery are a solid, well established, family based winemaker headquartered in Wollongong, NSW. After ongoing success the vintners have addressed the idea of expanding their wine distribution to Ontario situated in Eastern Canada. So far NLW s most innovative product involves soil aged merlots and chardonnay grapes grown in areas prone to wild fires which was labeled Deep Burn . The purpose of these wines were to exploit these wild fires to give the wines smoky characteristics. Given the popularity of this flavor in North American foods amp; beverages, this wine would be expected to pair well with many Canadian palates, particularly red meat dishes. As the figures used are annual, the ratio of LHS to RHS * 1 year will determine the amount of time it takes for costs with sales representative to match a sales office. The longer this takes, the more justifiable it is to run with option 1. As there are a number of variables NLW should first research current and future demand which will provide a good indication of turnover. Sales representatives can be kept to a minimum of 1 rep ... • 3. Intertextuality Of Love Throughout the ages, many have tried to comprehend the human experience of love and its ineffable and mysterious force that leads us to complete euphoria or utter despair, with songs, paintings, and stories. In Plato s Symposium, six guest including Socrates, tackle and attempt to define love amongst each other. With each attempt, and our study of Johns gospel, the intertextuality between the symposium and John 15:8 17 helps one better understand the portrait that John portrays of Jesusas the ultimate lover and only way to being fully complete. In the Farewell Discourse of Johns gospel, Jesus speaks of his abiding love and ultimate commandment given to his disciples. He tells his disciples, As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love... I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you (John 15:9 12). This guide he gives to his disciples, as a way to live in relation to each other, can connect with that of Phaedrus idea of love. In the Symposium, Phaedrus speaks of love as a great god who gives the greatest goods and there is no greater good given to a boy than a lover. The lover is the guidance, to hold accountable the boy, just as we are held accountable by Jesus. He gives us this commandment of simply loving each other as he loves us and the Father him. Just as the Lover in Phaedrus definition of love, the Lover is guiding the boy to be his companion and to love ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Gathering Of Old Men By Ernest J. Gaines The past is never completely forgotten and in A Gathering of Old Men by Ernest J. Gaines, this statement is proven true. Set in the 1970s in central Louisiana on the tail end of the Civil Rights and Jim Crow eras, this novel by Gaines reflects on the struggle between past traditions and a new world order. The setting presented directly correlates to the theme of change in the novel and how broader societal changes affect the characters actions. By examining the significance of the theme of change in the novel and how it plays out in the motivation and continuance of the plot, the reader can see what the consequences of a large shift in societal thinking can have on a community. If the majority feels their brother is not worth it, then the family has spoken. I m only interested in my family (Gaines 145). In this passage, the ideological differences between generations become very apparent. The philosophical differences between Fix and his son, Gil, can be attributed to three things time, education, and exposure to different groups of people. Fix and Beau are uneducated Cajuns that farm the land with tractors, however this contrasts with Gil, who is pursuing an education at LSU. Because of his higher education and sports background, Gil has had to work with many different groups of people, which then bred tolerance within him and ultimately led to his change in ideals. Like Gil and Fix, a similar metamorphosis occurs in the character of Charlie. Even though Charlie is one of the most important characters, he does not appear until the last few chapters of the novel. In his own words, Charlie describes his change: He cussed me. I was doing my work good. Cussed me anyhow. I told him he didn t need to cuss me like that. I told him I was doing my work good. He told me he wouldn t just cuss me, but he would beat me, too. I told him no, I wasn t go n low that no more, cause I was fifty years old half a hundred. (Gaines 190) He ... • 5. Essay on Superman vs. Christ Faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, jumps tall buildings in a single bound. Superman is known throughout the world for being the savior of a city called Metropolis. In every comic book, movie, or action figure ever presented to the public, Superman is a handsome, strong man who can defeat all oddsat all times. The movie Superman was a success, showing how the superhero saved lives and yet lived a humble life. As one watches the movie, though, he might notice the many similarities between the plot of the movie and the story of Christ s coming. Superman, savior of the city Metropolis, mirrors the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. Throughout the movie Superman, the names and the actions of the characters were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the movie, it shows three people standing on trial and a vote that was to be decided by Jor el. Zod, who was one of two men on trial, told Jor el to let him go and that he would let Jor el have reign over the new world, which is also said when the devil is speaking to God and trying to keep himself out of what was to become Hell. One of the strongest points in the movie that showed itself to be on the same path as Christ s coming was when Jor el said the father in the son, and the son in the father, before he was to send Kah lel off into the universe towards Earth. Another moment was when Kah lel throws the crystal and his father appears to tell his son that he is pleased with him and that he should now start his ministry after roaming the wilderness for the past twelve years. Not only does this scene in the movie agree with the Bible s story of Christ s twelve lost years, but it also is similar to when Christ was baptized by John. When Christ s baptism took place in the river Jordan, a voice from Heaven came down upon the crowd and said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. From the beginning to end of the movie, there are times in which Superman looked to be modeled after the story of Christ s coming. While the names and the actions matched up for both stories, there were also cases where an object s appearance alone made the viewer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Parental Detachment in I Stand Here Ironing Every parent knows how difficult it is to make decisions in the best interest of their children. There is always some doubt in the back of the mind, what if this happens or that happens. Tillie Olsen shows in her story I Stand Here Ironing the conflict and the results of one mother s decisions. She illustrates the back, forth motion of the iron as the back and forth doubts in the mothers mind. The detachment between mother and daughter in I Stand Here Ironingis understandable. The mother struggles daily with the decisions she made while her oldest child Emily was a young baby and toddler. Obstacles in Emily s life have made it hard for her mother to forget these decisions, and life with Emily only reinforces these decisions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emily is isolated from her mother s touch; she does not get the reassurance she needs that her mother would return for her. Nurseries in this time were very stale and cold; her mother describes it as ...lacerations of group life. (Olsen) The mental pain is like physical pain that she could feel throughout her little body. The separation of feelings between mother and daughter are so severe that Emily feels as though her heart is torn in two. As Olsen has done throughout her story, the visual imagery clarifies the story. Olsen writes about the way boys and girls appear when they live at a convalescent home, the girls still wear those gigantic red bows and the ravaged looks... (Olsen) The children have a look of longing; they are stripped of their emotions. They desire for nothing more than to be with their families again; they want to feel loved and cared for. Instead, they are in a home that does not allow emotions or love. Emily was again in that familiar place of being unwanted. Olsen describes how the parents and children are kept at a distance so as not to be contaminated by parental germs or physical affection. (Olsen) Parents, including Emily s mother, are kept at a distance so that they could not fill their children with false hopes and dreams of returning home. However, the children are kept away so that they would not tell their parents about the wretched home that they live in. After eight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages Of Anti-Competitive Agreement CHAPTER IV ANTI COMPETITIVE AGREEMNENT People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. While doing business in India, parties are prohibited from executing anti competitive agreements. Generally, the agreements which cause or are likely to cause appreciable adverse effect on competition ( AAEC ) are anti competitive agreements. However, the Competition Act, 2002 ( Act ) recognizes intellectual property rights and to facilitate their protection, the Act permits reasonable restrictions imposed by their owners. Similarly, the Act exempts agreements between exporters as exports do not impact markets in India. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most obvious example would be that of agreements between enterprises dealing in the same products. However, in general, it is important to define the relevant market(s). To attract the provision of the law, the products must be substitutes. Being at the same stage of the production chain implies that the parties to the agreement are both (all) producers, or retailers or wholesaler. As has been interpreted over the years in the U.S. (and enacted more recently in other countries) a dissention is drawn in this regard between horizontal and vertical agreements. In certain circumstances it can be established that firms that are collaborating on some socially valuable activity may need to agree to do away with competition so to establish the cooperative relationship. In this, the European Community law goes beyond the objective of maximizing welfare and explicitly allows some Restrictive contracts if they promote progressiveness and consumers ultimately stand to gain. The Japanese law also allows for actions in contravention of the law provided they are in the public interest . It would be dangerous to allow the kind of discretion in interpretation possible under the Japanese law. Any exceptions that are permissible should be clearly laid down. Esquivel states but the weeping was just the first symptom of a strange intoxication an acute attack of pain and frustration that seized the guests and scattered them across the patio and the grounds and in the bathrooms, all of them wailing over lost love (pg.39). These symptoms the guest had were all he feelings Tita had inside her when making the cake, they were being transmitted to them. • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Absolutism Absolutism, a form of government where the rulers word is law. All aspects are decided by the one in charge and his word is absolute. In this form of government the ruler will typically have trusted advisers but besides simple recommendations they have no real power. An absolute government has all aspects such as religion, political standing and economy decided by its ruler. In 1961 thomas hobbes wrote that the passions that incline men to peace are the fear of death. When a man wants something he can fight and take a chance to get it. Most men fear that chance as they may die and lose everything, but the thought of coming out on top is enough to encourage these actions in individuals. These individuals can incite others who would have normally turned down the challenge. In a case when the odds are not in favor of those goals set by an individual leading others one must not hesitate with what must be done. Hobbes understood that if there was no concise ruler that there was a sort of stutter when doing things taking action required to go through the proper channels. When 10 men are in control they must all agree but when only one man is in control all that must be done is let them decide entirely. When Bossuet talks about power he states that it must be employed with fear and self restraint as it is a blessing bestowed upon the ruler by god. Bossuet says that the throne is not for man but a place for man to speak the will of god. Unlike in absolutism Bosset says that these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Role Of Spna As A Cell Wall Figure 1: Kaplan Meier survival curves of wax worms infected with labelled dose (CFUs) of GAS SpnA variants over 3 days **** P 0.05 (One way ANOVA) A methyl green assay allows quantification of DNAse activity by measuring the change in absorbance as the methyl green DNA complex is degraded (Sinicropi et al. 1994). The SpnA knockout had significantly lower DNAse function than wildtype GAS whilst the non functional complements showed similar activity to the knockouts and the functional complements showed an intermediate function in between that of the knockout and that of the wildtype (Fig. 5) All strains showed higher activity than buffer alone (Fig. 5). Discussion Previous experiments have characterised the role of SpnA as a cell wall anchored DNAse important for immune evasion through the destruction of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) (Buchanan et al. 2006). While small scale in vivo experiments in mice have been conducted (Hasegawa et al. 2010), a Galleria mellonella infection model allows for a larger scale screening of mutants to further refine the role of SpnA in GAS virulence. This is due to the lower cost, easy maintenance, small size and suitability of the wax worm (Ramarao et al. 2012). In the above experiments, the role of SpnA in GAS virulence was clearly demonstrated by the significant difference in killing and the health index of the caterpillars between wild type and О”SpnA. They also revealed that complementation with cell wall bound SpnA on a plasmid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No matter the viewpoints it is important to consider how integration impacts the students. At the end of the day what students retain is what matters and retaining information can happen in a variety of different ways. Integration provides a way to connect multiple subjects and allows students to make connections. Integration can be difficult for teachers to teach because the integration does not fit well, but the outcome of integration is beneficial. With the heavy weight of assessments and standardized, tests teachers need to make sure that whatever they teach needs to connect to standards and unites. Sciencehas become a subject that has been put on the back burner because tests like Maps and Paws testing do not assess science. There are many factors that affect what and how teachers teach. Integration of math and science is one way to teach that allows teachers cover more than one major subject. Integration allows teachers to teach science and math in the same environment that allows students to flourish. The classroom is filled with a variety of different objectives and lessons and as teachers we need to make sure we are using our time the best ability. The big question of this research is whether integrating math and science is beneficial for students in the classroom. Each lesson and activity needs a purpose in the classroom and ... The World Of Reading And The English Language If there s anything harder than learning how to read for the very first time, it s learning how to read with a parent whose first language is not English. Learning how to read can get pretty interesting when you re trying to wander into the world of reading and the English language. However, this small obstacle never stopped me from learning how to read or even from readingat all. Now that I am eighteen years old, I have a big love for reading. Reading is a virtual escape that allows me to jump into many alternate universes. My journey to the world of reading and the English language was not a smooth one, but it turned out to be a rewarding experience. Throughout my years in elementary school, I resided in Miami which obviously has a big Hispanic population. There are people who speak Spanish or are bilingual like me. Yes, English is not my first language, it s Spanish. Despite the fact that I am bilingual, English is the language that I am more comfortable with. However, before I entered elementary school my mom had placed me in a day care that would teach me English. That turned out to be a failure as we never received any lessons in English and the English that I did learn was not quite appropriate for a four year old. That never stopped my mom though. She had already been living in the United Statesfor almost 20 years so she knew enough English to communicate with others. But then, service and financial failures occurred as a result of actions such as rushing the market offerings before issues were solved and failing to cut the costs for the customers at a greater extent because of having a unique server for each customer. Those scalability problems or the ability to adapt to increasing demands, and reliability problems eventually led to its downfall. Software as a Service(SaaS) or also known as on demand then evolved from the ASP model. With SaaS, software is not installed in the customer s computerbut in the provider s server somewhere else, and to access the software, the customer needs to connect to that server through either a thin client, which is a computer or a program that relies on another computer, or a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. Basically, it is also a software delivery model. But unlike the ASP, it has increased user awareness and is a multi tenant based service which means that repairs, updates, and upgrades are applied once for all customers instead of one at a time, making ... Comic Books Are Important For The World Comic books are important to the world for the fact that they represent a portion of the population that like to fantasize that they can escape the hardships of everyday life. In comic books people can be a hero, a villain, or a bystander that learns an important lesson from observing the two (Bendis 2). Grant Morrison discusses his views on the difference of the ages and their views on comics: Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it ... Comic books offer a solution to the everyday, active person (Bendis 1). The reader is usually short on time so he or she must be intrigued immediately for the comic to gain full attention. As soon as the reader commits himself or herself, the situation changes. He or she is thrown into an unknown situation that demands total attention (1). The plot is pulled together and the hero is cast in circumstances that demand a resolve. A confrontation follows and against seemingly impossible odds, the hero finds an answer within an unlikely source that the reader would believe they could also find if put in the same situation. Once the comic book is finished being read, the readers recognize that very little time has gone by and they can continue on with their normal lives. The understanding of the comic book doesn t end there. The reader now has time to think on what they just read, what could have been done, what should have been done and other possible outcomes to the plot. This can be done while daydreaming at school or bored to death at work. The importance of contemplating the different endings of a comic book is the fact that it makes the reader truly think ( Bendis 2). • 17. The Management Styles Of Chief Davis And Chief Fortier In comparing the management styles of Chief Davis and Chief Fortier, one could argue that Chief Davis approached the management of his department as a statesman, whereas Chief Fortier managed as an administrator. Citing Chief Davis clear vision for his department and effective management style (Cordner, 2014), Davis, unlike Fortier in the delegation of authority and duties placed qualified individuals in positions to assure duties /issues were handled. Whereas, Fortier s general implementation of departmental change was forced upon the officers and no assurance of competency or training was given. Additionally, as Fortier reached outside of the department in attempts to reach recommended goals, the Administrative style becomes obvious as the need to reach a goal is met by the most effective means, as evidenced in the promotions and outside hiring practices introduced. Likewise as officers and the community alike were accepting and receptive to Davis and the managerial style he presented, Fortier s tenure with the department was less than stellar, receiving a vote of no confidence by those he managed, and betrayal from the supervising staff. The internal roles exhibited in the management of each department included leading or leadership by Chief Davis. Theme Of Allusion In Grass And English Con Salsa History and Allusion in grass and English con salsa According to Kennedy and Dana, an allusion is where a person, place or thing is referred to indirectly, either by text or as an illustration (Kennedy and Dana 408). When allusions are used in a poem, it is assumed that the poet and the reader share a common body of knowledge. The poems grass by Carl Sandburg and English con salsa by Gina ValdГЁs are both similar in the sense that they both employ allusions in their narratives. Furthermore, the allusions in these poems discusses history and reflecting on the role of a person in history. The poem grass has five allusions which are Austerlitz, Waterloo, Gettysburg, Ypres, and Verdun. Furthermore, in Giselle the viewer notices are the difference in costumes, compared with today s more contemporary ballets. Giselle is dressed as a girl, not like a typical ballerina. The length of her skirt is very long, but stops short enough for you to allow seeing her footwork. There is also a clear distinction among the high society and the peasants. When the peasants are dancing, their costumes are all in the same, more muted color hue, whereas when the high class is dancing or on stage they have noticeably ornate costumes. This is an important element to this ballet. It also makes this difference more easily distinguishable to those people who do not know the whole story line behind Giselle. The theme Take Me Out was sexuality or race identity doesn t change the personality of the person or what they do. In the beginning of the play, the players didn t care about sexuality or race because they all loved playing baseball and winning. Also, they used baseball to describe having the freedom to express themselves. Which was true, because sexuality and race is just a part of who we are as a person. How the set designs, level of participation, lighting, and the theme made Take Me Out stands out to me. I am for children s literature due to the fact that if one is not educated, how is one expected to know. In this essay we will look at the pros and cons of including violence in children s literature. Fairy tales originate from the past and majority of the stories include some sort of gory detail and violence. They originated from oral traditions by adults telling stories to other adults, as these fairy tales were not meant to before the children. Each tale was set for that specific era or time based on the reality which was often a morbid one. Therefore we view old literature as gory and violent. Each generation had a different reality or gore to it. Many parents seek to have children s literature which contains violence removed or banned from all access to young children. They complain that the subject matter of these books is too much for children to handle. The parents do this as they believe it to be a form of protection from the dangerous world we live in. they know all too well that what is expressed in the books is happening in reality.by reading these violent books it evokes a sense of fear or the need to harm oneself or others. • 46. Knowledge Is Power In The Invisible Man, By Ralph Ellison Abtin Ghajarieh Sepanlou ENG 4U Ms. Smith 19 July 2017 Mind Does Not Matter The Ghanaian Diplomat Kofi Annan once said, Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family . Although this phrase may contain truth, our society has a long history where they heavily reject the notions of social responsibility and social education. This is due to the fact that those in power are not able to see its potential, as they themselves are without knowledge. Even though knowledge is often attributed to success depending on convenience, certain time periods contained cruel and unusual treatment of a large group of people based on a variety of prejudices. Using this perspective can help better understand the message of the novel, The Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison. The story follows the life of a black man during the late 1920 s or early 1930 s, when racism was at its peak. In this novel, the author uses literary elements to emphasize that knowledge and intelligence do not necessarily equal power, but those who lack knowledge abuse their power. The author accomplishes this by showing us the power of ignorance, and how feigning ignorance can lead to a sense of power. Knowledge is seen as the polar opposite of ignorance. Hence, the narrator s speech in the beginning of the novel is the first sign that ignorance plagues the majority of the characters in the novel. The author shows this when the narrator attempts to present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
