All-Majors Career Fair Job Analysis
Last week I attended the Kennesaw State University All Majors Career Fair. This event took
place in the Dr. Betty L. Siegel Student Recreation and Activities Center. I had several tables that I
wanted to visit. However, there three recruiters that I received signatures from were Peace Corps,
Kohl s and Bright Horizon Family Solutions. I believe that each of these job opportunities could
use a Psychologymajor. I say this because psychology can be applied to nearly every job.
The Peace Corps table had a recruiter by the name of Todd H. I came to this booth because a huge
aspect of this company is to gain leadership experiences. I believe that I could gain more
experience in this department because leadership is not one of my best qualities. ... Show more

I recognize that I don t have the most professional look at this point in my life. Having a tattoo
on my left forearm and a side shave can be a hit or miss in the work field. Some in employers can
view it as a way to add character or diversity to their company. While others may turn their nose
up at the sight and immediately reject me on the spot. In this situation, jobs that involve
psychology directly would most likely not accept this look. I struggled with accepting this and
attempted to hide my less professional aspects. I washed my hair so that I could flip my part in
an attempt to cover my side shave. Even though it was hot in the gym, I still wore a sweater that
covered my tattoo. These precautions actually made me feel less confident and created more self
conscious thoughts. I had to constantly remember not to tuck my hair behind my ear or push my
sleeves up my arm. Both of these actions would result in exposing my unprofessional tattoo and
hair. I also feared that I would become noticeable sweaty because a room full of college students,
interviewing for future jobs can heat up even the best air conditioned room. I was also self
conscious about that fact that I had recently bitten my nails. Believe it or not, but a lot of recruiters
pay attention to even the tiniest of details, such as the maintenance of your finger

The Shawl By Cynthia Ozick
Dyshere Logan
Tammy Geidel
AP English Languish and Composition
4 August 2014
A Summary of The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick is an emotional tale of
how a young mother had her daughter ripped away from her in the worst possible way. The
novella begins with the short story The Shawl . The shawl is quite short, but it leaves an
emotional impact on the reader that isn t forgotten throughout the entire book. The setting of The
Shawl is in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. A young mother named Rosa is trying to
stay alive with her very young baby Magda, and her niece Stella. All three of the girls are in
critical health due to the terrible conditions of the camp. Rosa and Stella are no longer able to
menstruate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While at the camp stella saw the bond that Rosa and Magda had. She was envious of the love
that they shared. Stella herself wanted to be cared and nurtured for like Magda was. Something
else that drove Stella to act the way she did was the fact that Magda was different from them.
Magda was not like the other jews in the concentration camp. Although she only a baby, Magda
had the features of an aryan . This was probably another reason Stella did such an evil deed.
Stella without remorse stole Magda s only thread of hope for survival. The shawl that stella stole
was the only driving force keeping Magda alive. She purposefully ripped it from her to lead to her
demise. This really showed who stella was and who she was always going to be. Even after
Stella escaped the camp and made a life for herself she was still the same cold, selfish, and
spiteful girl she had been in the camp. Ozick writing Stella as such an awful antagonist definitely
got the theme across that betraying the ones you love and being self doesn t make for a happy

Taxation Without Representation
Oppressors or Bullies? Taxation Without Representation Why weren t the thirteen colonies
willing to abide by England s laws? While some people were horrified with the Stamp Act, others
were completely accepting of this new act. Janis Herbert stated in her book, The American
Revolution for Kids, that after the French and Indian War, England had many debts, which
obviously needed to be paid (3). England s Parliament decided the American colonists needed to
pay their debts for them. England went about this matter by raising taxes and requiring a stamp
for fifty different documents (Gale Encyclopedia Par. 2). Since America was not yet a country,
and had no representation, they were trapped with the laws Parliament passed. Even though
England was trying to pay off their debts from the French Indian War, they went about it the
wrong way, because they expected the American colonists to pay by increased tax dollars. This is
an example of taxation without representation, because the American colonists didn t have
representatives, or the opportunity to vote. To help pay off their debt, England scheduled the
initiation of the Stamp Act, which placed a tax on fifty different documents, on November 1,
1765 (Gale Par. 2; Brindell 13). This act was to put a tax upon every paper commonly called a
pamphlet and upon every newspaper (Copeland 193). Because the Stamp Act was an internal tax,
which meant this tax law was only enforced in America, this made the colonists even

Essay about Macklemore Otherside Analysis
Otherside Macklemore We live on the cusp of death thinking that it won t be us, (l.32).
Macklemore is saying that people think that they will not die from doing drugs. In this song
Macklemore is stating that drugs can be really addictive also he states that drugs can really mess
you up and how media influences you to do drugs, for example rappers like Lil Waynewhich he
talks about in this song and Wiz Kalifa. Strong poetic devices permeate throughout Macklemore s
song Otherside for example he uses allusions, repetition and end rhyme. An example of a poetic
device that Macklemore uses in this song is allusion. One allusion Macklemore uses is Groundhog

He is also saying to keep him on this high of making his music instead of using drugs to get high.
Macklemore uses repetition in his songs to help emphasize what he is talking about. One other
poetic device that Macklemore uses in his song is end rhyme. One form of end rhyme in his
song would be, there s no way to glorify this pavement/ syrup, Percocet, hit an eight a day will
leave you broke depressed and emotionally vacant, (ll.45 46). The rhyme in this line would be
pavement and vacant which is also a forced rhyme. He also states that if you become addicted to
drugs you can go broke, go into a type of depression and become emotionally vacant in other
words destroy you. Another use of end rhyme in this song would be, surprise, you know the drill
/ trapped in a box, to climb record sales/ follow the formula violence, drugs and sex sells/ so we try
to sound like someone else (ll.40 43). In this line the words that would rhyme would be sales,
sells, and else. Macklemore is also stating the fakeness of today s rappers who tend to rap about
drugs and things they haven t done when they should be rapping about their lives and struggles
they have been through. Macklemore uses end rhyme to tie in certain lines that should be read
together. Media can really affect how someone thinks or looks at drugs and Macklemore helps
explain this trough this song by using allusions, repetitions, and end rhyme. This also applies to my

Detection or Identification of Trace Amounts of Explosives
The detection and/or identification of trace amounts of explosives.
The review of each method should include a description of the way the method works and the
advantages and drawbacks of the technique.
Introduction
An explosive, are reactive substances that contain a large amount of potential energy that can yield
an explosion if they are released rapidly, they are accompanied by the production of light, heat,
sound, and pressure. Mainly used in the mining industry for extraction of minerals and resources,
explosives have been used as a weapon of destruction. Explosives often contain oxidising substances
such as nitrates chlorates, and a binding agent such as ammonium and potassium, which can be
detected and analysed to prevent such substances from being used as a weapon.
Explosives detection is critically important in many field settings (e.g., military facilities,
minefields, crime scenes, and remediation sites) and has become a necessity for the safety of the
general public (e.g., at airports and mass transit areas), there remains a demand for inexpensive and
reliable explosive instruments for identifying specific explosives. High explosives are considered to
be organic and oxidizing, a relatively uncommon mixture that makes them tractable for molecular
recognition.
On 22 December 2001 Richard Colvin Reid also known as the Shoe Bomber attempted to detonate
explosives packed into the shoes he was wearing, while on American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris
to Miami.

Titanium appears on the periodic table under the symbol...
Titanium appears on the periodic table under the symbol Ti. The transition metal is known for being
very strong. When a person thinks of an element that is very strong, they also think that the item
would be very heavy. Titanium is different; the element is very strong, but it is also very light
weight. Since Titaniumis so strong, it is named after the strong Greek mythology Titans (History of
Titanium). The element, Titanium, is one of the most abundant elements. The metallic element is
found in many alloys; those alloys are found in many items today (The Editors). The top physical
property that titanium is recognized for is its strength to weight ratio. Titanium is very strong, but it
is very light weight. The element is lustrous; it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The factors also make it a great candidate for surgical instruments. Since the element is resistant
to corrosion from things such as sea water and chlorine, it is often found being used in the
industrial world. One of the most common places that Titanium is found is in desalination plants,
which convert sea water into drinking water. The element is used in heat exchangers; if the heat
exchangers were made of a different element they would need to be replaced more often due to
corrosion. A very strong alloy is produced when Titanium is combined with iron, aluminum,
vanadium, and molybdenum. This alloy is found in large items such as: jet engines, missiles,
spacecraft, military equipment, and even automobiles. The alloy is also used in many things that
we are known to love. Americans usually carry items with them everyday that are made up of this
alloy. For example, right now in my car I have many items that are made up of the alloy such as:
jewelry, a cell phone, and a football helmet grill (History of Titanium). The element, Titanium, has a
very low toxicity. Although, when Titanium is in powder form it is becomes a fire hazard
(Titanium). The other time that Titanium is a hazard is when it is heated in the air. The element
then becomes an explosive hazard. When Titanium does catch on fire, a normal fire extinguisher

Equality For Women s The Business World
Equality for Women in the Business World I have a question: when you think of a successful
business owner, who do you think of, a man or a women? Unfortunately, when most people think of
a success they automatically think of a man because society has instilled in us that men have the
most power. There has been improvement already made towards business women, but
unfortunately working women still do not have equal rights. Regina Blaszczyk said in the last sixty
years there has been revolutionary changes in the status of business women. Between the end of
World War II and 1995, women have entered the workforce with larger numbers and have also
come in with managerial positions in American corporations( Women in Business A Historical

The Market For The Textile Industry Essay
Introduction
Aussie textiles are a medium sized organization which produces quality garments located at
Queensland. As there was a huge competition for imported goods at a cheaper price, the
organization had decided to establish a manufacturing plant and import goods from one of the three
countries namely Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam. This report will be focusing on how
Vietnam could be a potential country for setting up an entirely new manufacturing plant to produce
quality textiles and export back to Queensland. Further adding on to the report, it attempts to
analyze the pros and cons, followed by the industry overview and analysis. In the next paragraphs,
the market for the textile industry will be analyzed using the industry data. In addition to this, tools
such as porter five forces model will be used to analyzing the potential as a host market for
manufacturing. And finally the recommendation declaring if the market in Vietnam is feasible for
manufacturing or not.
Industry Overview
Over the course of little more than a decade, Vietnam has become a significant exporter of garments
to the EU and Japan, and now to the Australia too. Textiles are a vital component of Vietnam,
presently accounting for nearly half of the country s manufactured exports. As clothing is some of
the most synchronized operated sectors in the world, it accounted for 16.5% of the total earnings in
the year 2002(Nadvi et al. 2004). The apparel industry in Vietnam has been incorporated into

Critical Information About A Patient s Plan Of Care
Specific problem requiring change and Situation description: The shift report between the off going
and oncoming nurses must include all of the critical information about a patient s plan of care. This
information must be communicated. The change of shift report that is done incorrectly can be a
result of missed information and poor communication between nurses, affecting their ability to
deliver safe and efficient care for the patients. This problem occurs not just at one but at most
hospitals, where inter shift report still continues to take place at the nursing station without
inclusion or a visual of the patient until the report is done. As I witnessed shift report in the
hallways or at the nursing stations of SCVMC of the 33 bed mother and baby unit, I noticed that at
times unnecessary information is received and critical information may not be communicated. On
the other hand, at Redwood City Kaiser neuroscience unit bedside inter shift nursing report works
well and I have witnessed better nurse patient relationship, lower incidents of falls, strong
teamwork, as well as improved nurse accountability and prioritization at the beginning of the shift.
As evidence shows in the article Improving Client and Nurse Satisfaction Through the Utilization
of Bedside Report , there is a direct correlation between the bedside report and both client and nurse
satisfaction in care settings, validating the importance of changing to bedside report (Vines, Dupler,
Guido, 2014). I

Siemens Development Strategy
Siemens AG: Global Development Strategy
What were the major causes of the problems with the NetManager project? (I m not looking for a
list of points made in the case; I m looking for you to step back to a higher level and analyze why
these problems occurred.)
The problems experienced by the NetManager project appear to be symptoms of integration vs.
responsiveness issue within Siemens AG. As a transnational company, Siemens faces strong
pressure to globally integrate its operations, and be responsive to the needs of their offices and
customer s needs. The main problem with NetManager was that it had mushroomed in size and
strategic importance. This was the result of keeping up with the rapidly changing technological
demands, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The case also traces back their erroneous assumptions to a lack of communication between German
managers and Indian developers due to extended vacations with no alternative outlet for which to
seek necessary support.
Munich headquarters had been too removed from the realities and operations of the Bangalore
office, and failed to provide the adequate support needed to build NetManager. This translates to an
issue of global integration.
What should Siemens do next regarding the Net Manager project?
Having outlined a lack of support from Munich headquarters as a reason for NetManager s
shortcomings, Siemens should keep project development in Bangalore. Rather than shifting
development to Europe, which would result in tremendous transaction costs, Siemens should shift
the necessary resources for completion to Bangalore. First, they should send the necessary
executive knowledge, meaning German executives with the in depth knowledge of EWSD
systems. This would overcome interdependency issues, and guarantee greater quality at each step
of the development process. Next, they should make the proper investments in infrastructure and
systems hardware. The Bangalore RDC should be as up to date as possible, so as to avoid the
prior testbed problem, and so that their office may be as equipped as possible to adapt to changing
technological trends. In the short term, this results in a completed NetManager program that meets
the needs and standards of their largest

Conflict Transformation In Criminal Justice
The conflict resolution/transformation worldview is an important perspective to consider when
defining justice in terms of restorative values. For example, conflict transformation responds to
social conflict between members of the society in order to decrease violence, promote justice,
endorse progress, maintain interaction and social norms, and upholds human relationships
(Lederach, 2003). The conflicttransformation perspective views conflict as a normal continuous
factor throughout society because conflict occurs in everyday surroundings when relationships
among people are disrupted (Lederach, 2003). For example, there are arguments between family
members over chores such as washing dishes, which provides the context for conflict that occurs...

The justice as retribution worldwide emphasizes on punitive measures such as deterrence and
incapacitation in order to establish justice against offenders who have committed significant crimes
including murder, robbery, or theft (Wenzel et al., 2008). This implies that punishment remains a
central element in order to deter future crimes because members of the society would learn the
importance of social norms and regulations as violation of those laws would promote harmful
consequences (Wenzel et al., 2008). The offenders sentenced to punishment do not need to
demonstrate remorse or empathy towards the victim for the harms inflicted on them (Wenzel et al.,
2008). Punishment is viewed as justice because it labels the individual as the culprit of the state,
which deprives the individual s status (Wenzel et al., 2008). Nevertheless, when the punishment is
imposed against the offender, then the statuses of the victim and the community members are
restored (Wenzel et al., 2008). The justice as retribution worldview remains similar to the state
based worldview because it also emphasizes on punishment as means for establishing justice. For
example, the punishment of the offender should be proportionate to the severity of the offence
committed in both

Population Growth On Environment And Development
According to Ray (1998), every four days there is a net population increase of over one million
people, and this exponential increase is greatly associated as being one of the main drivers of
poverty and environmental degradation worldwide (Dasgupta, 1995), resulting in extreme stress on
ecosystem services (ES), as well as human development. However, the extent to which future
populationgrowth will be a problem for both the environment and development is disputed amongst
academics around four main models which link population, environment, and development together.
In this essay, I will begin by exploring the vicious circle and Malthusian models and their views of
population growthon environment and development, and contrast these with the Boserup and
Cornucopian models using examples, before concluding.
The exponential growth of global population has seen the per annum population increase go from
taking 100 years between the 1st billion and 2nd billion to just 16 years between the 6th and 7th
billion (Ray, 1998). The Malthusian (/ neo Malthusian) model developed by Thomas Malthus in
1798, as well as the Vicious Circle Model (VCM) both regard population growth as an extreme
problem for both the environment and for the development of nations. The Malthusian theories
links how as global population increases exponentially and food production remains linear, a
critical point comes whereby shortages of food will result in large scale famine and death until
population values

Comparing Harrison Bergeron And Marigolds
Meaningful connections
The short stories Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, and
Marigolds by Eugenia W. Collier, are all meaningfully connected through peices and feelings that are
felt while reading the stories. Each is unique, but they have the same point behind them. All three of
the main characters in these stories have all destroyed something. Rather it be important to them or
someone else. In the short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, the author explains how
everyone is equal . If you were beautiful, you had to wear a mask to hide the beauty. If you were
strong, you had to wear a certain amount of birdshot in order to pull you down. The treatment
everyone had to deal with was unfair. Some things about living still weren t quite right, though.
April, for instance, still drove people crazy by not being springtime. And it was in that clammy
month that the H G men took George and Hazel Bergeron s fourteen year old son, Harrison,
away. Harrison, a fourteen year old boy, was taken away from his family for being different. The
text states The picture showed the full length of Harrison against a background calibrated in feet

Compared to last year, I felt better this year. When I first arrived United States, I knew only a few
Malaysians. I celebrated this major festival with only a friend. We bought some beers, had a
long conversation about our history in how we had celebrated New Year for the past few years.
At that particular time, I had the urge of going back to my sweet home that is at the other side of

This year, I went to a party that was held on February 9th, which was two days before Chinese

Differences Bring You Closer
For centuries upon centuries, dance has been used as a form as expression. Whether it be
religiously to please and entertain the gods, or as a form of entertainment for the townspeople, dance
has brought joy to countless people. Because dance doesn t leave a written history trail it is
assumed, but not proven, to have originated over 2500 years ago. However, dance continues to
evolve even today. Take for example the odissi dance from India that is almost two thousand years
old versus the bachata dance from Dominican Republic that is only about 50 years old. Both of
these dances originated in complete separate parts of the world at very ... Show more content on

Odissi dance was held to a very high esteem not only by commoners, for even royalty were
expected to be great dancers of this kind. However, as a sensual dance of great passion, love, and
joy, it doesn t come to be a great surprise that after the 17th century odissi dance took a turn for
the worse. The dancers went from being admired to being known as prostitutes and whores; it
was a dark time for odissi dance as it came very close to being extinct. Nevertheless, India
Independence Day marked an enormous change due the recognition that culture and dance was
essential to unifying India once again. Many individuals then set out to revive odissi dance for the
better (Nirmal). Odissi dance has since then taken on many different forms and has even split into
three different schools: mahari, nartaki, and gotipua. Mahari dance is the traditional form of odissi
used in rituals; narthaki dance was developed in the royal courts; and gotipua dance is the form of
odissi where males wear female costumes and assume those roles (Courtney).
One of the main differences between these dances is the purpose and symbolism. While odissi
dance has been used for entertainment it is a classical temple dance. It is used in rituals and has
originally been created for the Divine, bachata on the other hand is the complete opposite. It
symbolizes freedom from one of the worst dictatorships Dominican Republic has ever seen and a
freedom of speech they

Euripides Research Paper
The Life of Euripides
Euripides was one of the three great tragedians. The other two were Aeschylus, and Sophocles.
According to the Encyclopedia, Euripides was a Greek playwright whom Aristotle called the most
tragic of the Greek poets. He is certainly the most revolutionary Greek tragedian known in modern
times ( Euripides ). He is well known for transforming traditional Greek tragedies by using strong
female characters and brilliant slaves. From the ninety two plays Euripides wrote, only nineteen
were saved in complete form. Euripides was a brilliant Greek playwright who was one of the most

Euripides was born in Salmis in 480 B.C. He was the son of Mnesarchus or Mnesarchides.
According to the legend, his father was a tradesman or tavern keeper. His mother, Cleito, is said
to be a seller of herbs in a marketplace (Kitto). Europides was raised in a cultured family. He got
to witness the rebuilding of the Athenian walls after the Persian war (Encyclopedia). Overall, he
belonged to the Pelopnessian War period. Euripides is thought to have come from a well being,

The United States Of The World War II Essay
On December 7th, 1941, the United States of America was heaved into World War II after Japan
attacked the American naval convoy in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The next day after the Japanese s
surprise attack, America and Great Britain both declared war on Japan. The Second World War was
histories greatest and most noteworthy armed conflict. It served as the environment for the current
arrangement of security and intellect, and for the postwar power stability that shaped the agenda
for the Cold War. World War II partook with around 50 allied nations, one of the most renowned
was The United Statesof America.3 The American industry provided almost two thirds of all of
the allied military equipment produced during the war, and because of this, in four years alone,
Americas industrial production doubled in size even with it already being the largest at the time.
After the attack, everyday living throughout the nation was considerably affected. Normal goods
such as food, gas, and clothing were rationed heavily.1 The communities created scrap metal
drives and changed the standard role of women in order to build necessary weaponries to win the
war.1 Even though America was experiencing great economic growth, undoubtedly this war and its
associated atrocities would have a death toll of around 50 million military and civilian peoples, in
the military deaths alone The United States of America lost 400,000.1 World War II not only
disturbed the economy of the United States, but it also

Home Depot Financial Analysis

rapidly changing industry. In fiscal year 2012 alone, Office Depot generated $10.7 billion of

What s worse, the primary sources of cash flow from operations were depreciation and assets
impairment instead of net income. The increase in cash flow from investing activities, also in
Figure 7, indicates that although the company continued to make investments in 2012, it had
cut the amount dramatically. As a result, the investments might not be able to fit its needs for
sustainable development. Overall, Office Depot s solvency condition in the past three years has
not been satisfactory. Figure 7: Cash Flow by Activities (in thousands) Operating Efficiency
Analysis As a measure of operating efficiency, Office Depot s ROA was incredibly low. The
ROA in 2011 was only 0.8% and went all the way down to 1.9% in 2012, as shown in Figure 8,
which demonstrates that management did a poor job in generating productivity from
employing the firm s resources. Figure 8: Return on Assets Considering that the industry s
average ROA was as high as 8.3%, a negative ROA is not acceptable for most companies. Given
its cost of capital was 11.78% in 2012, the ROA of 1.9% indicates that the earnings of Office
Depot was not able to cover its financing cost so that its performance was far from adequate in
2012. Based on the DuPont Equation in Figure 9, ROA is the product of ROS and assets turnover,
both of which have declined in 2012 for Office Depot. Its assets turnover has

Analysis Of Are You Somebody
The final scene of Nuala O Faolain s memoir Are You Somebody has several aspects that differ
from as well as are similar to the endings of the other Irish works we have read in class. Unique to
Are You Somebody, the memoir does not conclude with a complete resolution. She also begs for
the reader s pity, which the other authors with even worse situations do not resort to. However, her
memoir also has numerous aspects in common with the other works. Similar to Bonaparte in The
Poor Mouth and O Connor in An Only Child, O Faolain looks outward toward her future. However,
similar to McGahern All Will Be Well, she also reflects on her past. Although the authors all face
different situations, they are overall very similar in how they respond to their fate in the finalscenes
of their works. Several aspects of O Faolain s memoir s ending set it apart from the other works. In
contrast to the definitive nature of the endings of the other books, the final chapterof Are You
Somebody leaves readers hanging. The memoir concludes as she spends a Christmas day without
family, only being surrounded by her dog. She reflects on her past and poses questions to herself
regarding the choices she could have made in the past. She asks, What happened? (177), and How
can you persuade yourself to accept your fortune? (178). Questioning herself like this shows that she
is uncertain about her prior decisions, present situation, and is apprehensive about her future.

By referring to appendix part a, it shows a loss will be made and a large amount of bad debts
will have been created. Therefore before any decision is made, the client should acquire the exact
figures of the future revenues and expenses of the firm. Once the appropriate information has been
collected and analysed, different forms of investment appraisal can be conducted. Here the client
will be able to assess the viability of the investment proposal. There a number of different methods
that can be used to do this. They include the; internal rate of return, net present value and payback
period of the proposal (Horngren et al, 2012). These methods will assist the client in deciding if
they should accept or reject the project. In regards to the purchase of new equipment and the
leasing of new property, the client should refrain from participating in these activities. As the
venture appears to be surrounded by uncertainty, the client risks running up a large amount of debt
that could have severe consequences in the future. My advice to the client would be to return the
new equipment and to negotiate a way out of the two year lease. The client should do this until they
are completely confident about the success of the venture. Before the client decides to invest in the
proposed venture they must first address a number of issues. This includes becoming more
informed about their potential partner and also in gathering

Investigating Athens Treatment of Her Allies
Investigating Athens Treatment of Her Allies
During the period of 478 431, Athens treatment of her allies changed dramatically as she rose to
become the leader of an empire. The establishment of the Delian League marked the beginning of a
significant series of events, which lead to Athens rise to extreme power. From the evidence of
Thucydides and the inscriptions, it is possible to track the progress of these events and the rapidly
changing treatment that Athens enforced upon her allies.
The Delian League was an establishment formed in 478 BC. A large number of Greek cities
formed an alliance under this league and together aimed to provide a strong defence against Persia,

Athens decided which of the allied states would contribute ships and which would contribute
money. This was an early stage in the Athens leadership, yet although there are no signs of change
in her treatment towards the allies, there is distant indication of inequality. As well as organising
funds, Athens also appointed Hellenic Treasurers who would collect the contributions from each of
the money paying states. However, these treasurers were Athenian (known as hellenotamiae). It
would be considered fairer to have appointed treasurers from different members of the alliance for
a stronger sense of equality. It is possible that Athens is already enforcing her authority upon her
allies at this early stage in the development of the league.
Athens also had great power as leader. An oath sworn by all members of the league indicated that
Athens would hold the place of leadership and authority for as long as the league was established.
By dropping iron weights into the sea, the oath was symbolic that Athens reign of leadership was
permanent. Athens stood faithfully by this oath, even when Persia was finally defeated at
Eurymedon in 468 BC. This meant that the league no longer had a purpose, yet Athens began to
show a new determination to gain total control over the states that she had won leadership over in
terms of the league. Cities such as Naxos

John Rawls Theory of Societal Justice Essay
Have you ever wondered what would be required in order to create a just society? Let us think
from the perspective of societal ground zero. We have not been in existence for the past few
thousand years. We have no ancestors to direct us, no rules to follow, and no experience to guide
us. Imagine that we have not even come to be yet. Consider for a moment that society has yet to
be established. Assume there are hypothetical homunculi with the sole task of devising the goals,
the guiding light, for society. How would societal goals be designed so they are fair and just for all?

rights and freedoms in harmony with an equivalent system for all other people.
Rawls believes the homunculi, behind a veil of ignorance, would choose this first principle over a
utilitarian perspective mainly due to the fear of unknown consequences. From a utilitarian
approach, the homunculi know that some would end up with an unfair advantage of basic liberties,
while others would be severely and unjustly disadvantaged. This would occur as a result of the
definition of utilitarianism; to create the highest amount of utility averaged among all people in the
society. Within the greatest average utility, there are certain to be outliers who are severely
disadvantaged. It would seem only reasonable to assume the homunculi would choose the principle
that guarantees equal liberties for all over the utilitarian perspective where some would surely be
disadvantaged. Since they are behind a veil of ignorance, the homunculi would want to assure the
best possible minimum. Ensuring equal basic liberties for all would provide a far better minimum
than the greatest average utility, which would certainly leave some people with unjustly
disadvantaged rights and freedoms.

Pros And Cons Of Doctor Faustus
The idea of selling your soul to the devil for knowledge has been around for as long as Doctor
Faustus. Christopher Marlowe s play dealt with this controversial topic in 1590 s. The story of
Doctor Faustus is just as relevent today as it was hundreds of years ago. This paper will be a study
of the pros and cons of the idea of selling your soul to the devil.
Doctor Faustus was a well respected scholar; he was bored of and not happy with traditional forms
of knowledge like logic, medicine, law, and religion. He wanted to learn magic so two of his friends
promised to teach him the secrets of black magic. The first thing he did was summon

his denial of God and his wish for knowledge and control over nature. In Act 2 Scene 1, pg 16 19
he is confronted by opposing angels good and bad. Faustus says : Contrition, Prayer, repentance
what of these? the good angel replies: O, they are means to bring thee unto heaven. the bad angel

Conspicuous Consumption in Sinclair Lewis Babbit
The idea of conspicuous consumption, or buying unnecessary items to show one s wealth, can be
seen in Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis. Lewis describes the main character of the book, George F.

But in Babbitt s house the towel rack was a rod of clear glass set in nickel (5). Even the tooth
brush holder, shaving brush holder, soap dish...resembled an electrical instrument board (5).
The Babbitt bedroom was full of things deemed valuable, like toilet articles of almost solid
silver and mattresses which had cost a great deal of money (13 14). Their house had the latest
conveniences such as three plugs for electric lamps and a dining room with its admirable oak
buffet and leaded glass cupboard (14). Babbitt had everything at home and even the very best of
water coolers, up to date, scientific, and right thinking (32) at the office. To him, having all of
this was why his life was worth living. He would buy items of great monetary value, and in return,
his social standing would rise. Lewis wants to show the reader that material possessions are not
everything, and can lead one astray. Babbitt thought he had it all, a nice house, a nice car, all
furnished with the latest objects. What Babbitt did not have, however, was a wife and children who
cared for him and whom he loved with all his heart. His life had no direction and everything
eventually came crashing down on him. Although he had anything and everything a man could want

19th Century Gender Roles
Gender roles and stereotypes are nothing new in human society and can be traced back to the
earliest known human civilizations like the Aztecs and the Mayans where men and women
preformed specific tasks in order for their societies to thrive and flourish. Men and women
equally farmed and took care of the family, both fulfilling the role as provider and nurturer (Robin
409). So there is a bit of confusion as to how somewhere down the line, 19th century civilizations
diverged so far away from the original genderroles laid out by our ancestors. The industrial
revolution caused a dramatic differentiation in the gender roles of men and women, particularly in
the upper and middle class societies (Gonäs 92). During this time men and women were thought

Women were seen as weak, dependent, and illogical. Men were pictured to have natural role
best suited to the public world, and women were seen has be best suited for the private world.
Women who exhibited traits or desires that challenges these views were seen as improper and
often ostracized and cast out for defying societies beliefs. The history of gender in Europe in the
19th century can be summed up as as an overarching patriarchal model which reserved power
and privilege for men as said by Jan Marsh in her article Gender Ideology Separate Spheres in the
19th Century. This was a time of the great man where outstanding male individuals were rising to
immense power in all aspects of life and were being depicted in all forms of media around the
globe. Women were nothing more than a stage hand in comparison to men who were the main

A Summary OfIt Always Costs By David Suzuki Summary
ugh Draft 3 David Suzuki s essay, It Always Costs argues that technology is always accompanied
my negative repercussions. Suzuki clearly emphasizes the negative effects that technology presents
by objectifying the damaging nature of scientific innovation. Throughout his essay, Suzuki supports
his arguments with specific examples. To justify his reasoning, the author uses the case of DDT,
otherwise known as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane. This chemical compound is used as an
insecticide to eliminate the population of malaria carrying mosquitoes, which it did effectively, and
saved millions of lives. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, complications arose, which
led to an increase in chemicals and caused a domino effect of... Show more content on

Scientific innovations have caused numerous side effects, which Suzuki explains throughout his
essay, but when he links his ideas to examples, such as biomagnification, he reinforces himself.
Every piece of evidence Suzuki presents is always explained effectively, he will explain why the
example proves his point without loosing sight of his end argument. The arguments are all very
well thought out and relevant to his essay. Continually, David Suzuki always supports his
propositions with authentic proof to relay his stance on technology. David Suzuki supports his
argument with specific examples and he rationalises each one; however, he overlooks the
important detail that technology is beneficial to our society. Throughout the essay the author
repeatedly mentions the negative effects technology has, but he never provides an argument for
the advantages of new innovations. Although technology may have its faults, we depend on it as
a society. As Suzuki states in his essay, Once technology is in place, it becomes impossible to do
without it and we can t go back to doing things the old way . Without a constant cycle of new
innovations and technology, as a society we would digress. Everyday we depend on technology, it
is an imperative factor to surviving. The numerous benefits of technology are endless: improved
environmental understandings, cancer research and cures, as well as a better economy. Since there
are no explicit references to the advantages,

Drug Addiction Treatment
Addiction treatment problems are reaching even further out into society with new synthetic drugs
that mimic marijuana, cocaine and many other illegal drugs. These new designer drugs are making
users throughout the country very sick, causing seizures, hallucinations and even death. Preventive
measures and treatment for these kinds of addictions cannot take place soon enough. These new
designer drugs are sweeping the country as hospital admissions and reports to poisoncontrol centers
dramatically increase.
Treatment for addiction to toxic synthetic drugs sold as bath salts and incense that can be obtained

community. The end result of these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types of addiction rehabilitation programs are usually open ended meaning no set length of
time is required. It takes as long as it takes to handle all of the factors involved with addiction,

learning how to be happy and live life without seeking such detrimental remedies to ones problems.
Often kids seek these kinds of things out as means to fit in or feed some inner insecurity thinking
since the drugs are legal they cannot be harmful. Other users who have abused the drugs tell others
nothing happened, when nothing could be further from the truth. Where one leads others will

Rap Vs Rap
From the beating of the drums to the use of instruments, music has been around us and has
changed the way we, as humans, interact with one another. As music changes over time, it starts
to differentiate itself from other types and creates what we now call genres and a style that
keeps pushing itself further and further, is no other than Rap/Hip Hop.This genre was started
back in the 1980s in New York where it was an outlet for artists to tell their stories. As Rap music
moves forward, subgenres rise and start to create their own distinctive sounds, and this is where
rap begins to split. A very popular subgenre that has blown up over the course of a decade is
called Trap. Recently Trap music has made huge waves in the music industry, this style of music
is everywhere! it is hard to escape, but recently there has been a great deal of talk going around
that Trap music is way better than rap but this is where the disagreement comes into place. Once
you compare all the facts and key points about what makes a genre better than the other, Rap is
miles ahead of Trap music in every way possible and any avid music listener will and can tell you
this. When listening to music, often times the listener would want the song or album to relate in
some way. Knowing that a specific artist has the same problem or is going through the same
predicament makes it more special and establishes a connection between the listener and the artist,
but when there is no message, it is just words

Endocrine vs. Nervous System
Endocrine Vs Nervous System
The endocrine system acts with nervous system to coordinate the body s activities.
Both systems enable cells to communicate with others by using chemical messengers.
The endocrine system uses chemical messengers called hormones that are transported by the
circulatory system (blood). They act on target cells that may be anywhere in the body.
The endocrine system is slower than the nervous system because hormones must travel through the
circulatory system to reach their target.
Target cells have receptors that are specific to the signaling molecules. The binding of hormones to
the receptors on or within the target cell produces a response by the target cell. The chemical
messengers used by the nervous system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcohol inhibits the release of ADH, causing the kidneys to produce dilute urine.
Control of the Anterior Pituitary
The hypothalamus produces hormones that travel in blood vessels to the anterior pituitary,
stimulating it to produce other hormones.
The hormones produced by the hypothalamus are called hypothalamic releasing hormones. The
anterior pituitary produces at least six different hormones. Each one is produced in response to a
specific hypothalamic releasing hormone.
The blood vessel that carries hypothalamic releasing hormones from the hypothalamus to the
pituitary is called a portal vein because it connects two capillary beds. One capillary bed is in the
hypothalamus and the other is in the anterior pituitary.
Release inhibiting hormones produced by the hypothalamus inhibit the pituitary from secreting its
hormones. Example
The pituitary is stimulated to release growth hormone (GH) by growth hromone releasing hormone
(GHRH) produced in the hypothalamus. It is inhibited from releasing growth hormone by growth
hormone release inhibiting hormone(GHRIH), also produced by the hypothalamus. Six different
hormones produced by the anterior lobe will be studied here. Three of these have direct effects on
the body, the other three control other glands. Anterior Pituitary Hormones that Directly Affect the
Body

Why Is Frederick Banting Successful
Sir Frederick Banting is undoubtedly the greatest Canadian. His dedication, bravery and genius
led to the discovery of insulin and a significant advance in research related to silicosis, cancer
and aviation medicine. He saved millions of lives, demanding nothing in return. He did,
however, receive various awards, such as the Military Cross for distinguished and meritorious
services in time of war and the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine. Not born in a
particularly wealthy family, everything he accomplished was the result of hard work,
commitment, and passion. He dedicated his whole life to helping people not only in Canada, but
in the rest of the world as well. Banting did not just talk about making a difference like most
people do. He actually got up, faced the challenge and managed to change the fate of millions.
Frederick Banting s main success was becoming the co discoverer of insulin, but it was not his first
major accomplishment. During the first world war, a heroic sacrifice earned him the Military
Cross. As a student, Banting enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps and after graduation,
was sent to Europe to serve as a medical officer. In the last days of the war, seriously injured and...

discovery belonged to the world and not to him. He sold the rights to produce insulin to The
University of Torontofor only one dollar, and shared half of the money from his Nobel Prize with
his assistant. Frederick Banting did not chase after money or recognition. Everything he did, he

Descriptive Essay About Mangonada Margaritas
Mangonada Margaritas
Mangonada Margaritas. Yep, you read that right! All of the flavors of a mangonada blended into a
classic frozen margarita. If you aren t familiar with a mangonada it is a Mexican frozen mango
drink made with lime juice, chili lime seasoning, and chamoy sauce. So I incorporated those same
ingredients in my margarita! It s sweet, with a little bit of heat, and some tequila to wake things up
a bit.
I love chamoy sauce, but if you ve ever read the label on the back of the bottle you will see
ingredients that I do not particularly care to consume. So I decided to make my own organic
chamoy sauce in order to make my Mangonada Margaritas. And it was a total success! To make

Hezbollah Research Paper
Terrorism within or against the United States is not a new phenomenon. Our history is well
documented with thousands of attempts and actual acts of terrorism that happened on U.S. soil.
The first act of terrorism can be traced back to 1865 with the assassination of President Lincoln,
but the first and boldest foreign terrorist attack occurred in New York City on February 26, 1993.
Over 1,000 people were injured and six were killed when a group of Islamic terrorists detonated a
rental truck equipped with explosives underneath the World Trade Center. The Federal Bureau of
Investigation(FBI) later discovered that the explosion at the World Trade Center was a dress
rehearsal for the most devastating and deadly terrorist attack to reach our nation,... Show more

Hezbollah began its existence with leaders, such as al Musawi, al Khalil, and Mughniyah, who
had proven their competence in the crucible of Lebanon s Civil War. With these leaders, they
recruited fighters with an extensive military training background, which proved to be an asset
against the Israeli army. There is said to be tens of thousands of Hezbollah members within their
ranks and could increase up to a hundred thousand or more. Abbas al Musawi was the senior
leader of Hezbollah before the Israeli s killed him in 1992. Hassan Nasarallah became the next
senior leader of Hezbollah, also known as the Secretary General; essentially he makes all the
decisions for any political or paramilitary activities. Nasrallah was a student of al Musawi in a
religious seminary school in Iraq, and he regarded al Musawi as his mentor. He was a strong
supporter of the Israel resistance and while in school, he organized a group of Shiite s to assist
in the invasion of Israel. Even though Nasrallah has faced criticism from his own people, he has
won broad grassroots support by cultivating a social welfare network that provided schools,
clinics, and housing in the predominantly Shiite parts of Lebanon. He has proven to be a very
intelligent, religious, and charismatic figure across the Arab nations, and has gained much
support and popularity for Hezbollah s terrorist activities. Underneath Secretary General
Nasrallah is second in command, Naim Qassem, the top political advisor to Nasrallah, Hussein
al Khalil, and now deceased spiritual leader or chief Mujtahid, Sheikh Muhammed Hussein
Fadlallah. For more than twenty years, Imad Fayez Mugniyah was considered Hezbollah s top
planner of worldwide terrorist operations, but he was replaced by Mohammed Rida Zahidi in 2008.

Cyber Criminals Are Faceless And Cybercrimes
Cyber criminals are faceless and cybercrimes are now easier and safer for criminals to troll the
internet for unsuspected victims without leaving the comfort of their own home. According to a
Police Executive Research Forum report (PERF, 2014), local law enforcement are struggling with
responses to cybercrimes; Chief Charles McClelland of the Houston policedepartment told PERF,
unfortunately, we haven t properly prepared our officers to handle cybercrime calls (p.20).
Cybercrimes are not limited to credit card frauds, scams, human trafficking, or cyber bullying, but
also involves attacks on national infrastructures to terrorism plots on a larger scale. The post 911
investigation revealed that the internetplayed a key role in the attacks, from planning to coordinating
to executing the cowardice acts. As a law enforcementorganization, we are facing a new breed of
criminals criminals with no faces or names and our task is to bring them to justice. There is a lack
of knowledge in the cyber world, which the police culture does not fully comprehend. In order to
level the playing field, we must improve IT knowledge through education, commit funding to
promulgate cybercrimes units, and collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to create a
team of teams. The internet is largely unregulated, therefore, those who are most familiar with it
will dominate the virtual world. There is hope, although cybercrimes are committed via the internet,
there is an operator

Stereotypes In Forrest Gump
White privilege and stereotypes are two ways race can influence a person s everyday life. White
privilege can be defined simply as white people getting special privileges and rights because they
are white. This can be seen when a white person gets a job opposed to a person of color or when
white people are able to live in nicer neighborhoods while people of color live in crime ridden ones
because white peoplehave more wealth. White privilege has become so normal that most people
fail to see it in action. Furthermore, stereotypes can have many harmful effects as well.
Stereotypes can be defined as distorted views or inaccurate beliefs about a group of people. Not
all stereotypes are bad, but many of them are. An example could be saying that all African
Americans are good at sports. However, this is not always the case. Stereotypes may sometimes
seem harmless, but these beliefs can impact a person s life. White privilege and stereotypes are
two different concepts, but they both have similar effects that tend to hurt people of color more
than they hurt white people. Both of these ideas appear in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, which
was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film depicts white privilege by showing only white people
in positions of power, illustrates stereotypes about people of color by having a stereotypical black
family, and changes black history by having a white person make achievements that people of color
really made.
Forrest Gump is a movie that follows a man throughout the story of his life. It starts out with
Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop when the bus arrives and a woman steps out and sits down
next to him. He begins to talk to her and he offers her some chocolate. The way he talks hints to
the fact that he is not the most intelligent person. He then starts to talk about her shoes which leads
him to a flashback of his childhood in Greenbow, Alabama in about 1945. From there he starts to
talk about everything that has happened in his life that has led him to where he is now. He talks
about meeting Jenny on his first day of school, his running getting him a football scholarship for
college, enlisting in the army and meeting Bubba, getting a medal of honor, and playing ping pong
against China.

Why Did The British Petroleum Oil Spill
April 20, 2010 has gone down in the history books as the day that the most horrific oil spill in
history happened. British Petroleum s leased offshore drilling rig exploded on this day. The
Deepwater Horizon caused the largest accidental marine oil spill ever (Crandall, Parnell and
Spillan, 2013). The ruptured oil well leaked nearly 5 million barrels of oil into the sea over a
three month period of time. The devastation killed eleven men. 17 others were severely injured.
The devastation reached marine wildlife and some 5 years later, that group is still feeling the after
affects.
This tragedy was bound to happen at some point because all of the key indicators were in place. In
the 1980 s the United States began to look for solutions

Spotify (of which I am a paying user), MOG Music, Rdio, Sony Music Unlimited and Rara just
to name a few, are rapidly growing and encroaching on formerly iTunes dominated territory. They
offer subscription based universal access to their licensed content rather than paying for every
individual track and album before being allowed to listen. Unique to many of these services is
the option of Cloud storage, where you store a small file on your device which links the lookup
data to the main server of whichever streaming service you re using, essentially enabling you to
save all the music available on the service with a minimal amount of space taken up on your device

Ordinary Men Essay
Analysis of Ordinary Men
What do you see when you think about the Holocaust? What are things you associate with it?
Personally I think about the absolute evil of the Nazis and the horrible things that the Jews had
to endure. I think about how gut wrenchingly terrible of a life style every one of those people
had to live through and what it would be like to have been in their place. What I don t think
about and had never even considered before reading the book Ordinary Men is what it was like to
be a member of one of the police battalions that had to do all these gut wrenchingly terrible crimes
toward innocent human beings. I saw them as trained cold blooded killers, robots under Hitler s
command, and nothing else. While reading this book I began to realize that these people were
living human beings too, that at first felt disgusted by what they were instructed to do too and that s
what I think the author, Christopher Browning, was trying to do. He is saying that these men were
just regular people that were trained to kill and that if we re not aware of this phenomena that it
could happen again. The Order Police began after World War I. Germany was trying to create an
army of police that had military training and possessed military equipment since under the Treaty
of Versailles they were not allowed to have a large army. By 1941 The Order Police became heavily
involved in the slaughter of Soviet Jews. They were given a Commissar Order which authorized the

about the girls or who they were affiliated with before they disappeared. The detective would have
to visit the crime scene and watch for anybody who began to act suspiciously. He/she also would
be in charge of patrolling assigned areas, obtain warrants and write detailed reports about what has
been occurring before and after the murders. The detectives in this novel would specifically keep
an eye on the victim s friends, possible boyfriends, or anyone close to them.
He/she would be very interested in Sara Martin s sister, Lauren who was also targeted as having

Gender Gap Within The Fields Of Science, Technology,...
In LIBS 6137 I analyzed topics that affected today s teens. I found that a gender gap exists in the
fields of science and technology. Females are underrepresented in the area of Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematical (STEM) related careers. According to research, girls should be
encouraged to pursue their interests, find mentors, and collaborate with others in the areas of science
, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In light of these findings, I presented a booktalk to a
group of girls ages 15 19 on six books in which the main characters are strong women who have a
special interest or talent in STEM related subjects. A handout was also created for each student and
the host. The handout contained a description of the six books presented in the booktalk, similar
books that may be of interest to students on the same topic, as well as websites, magazines,
software, and videos. A total of eighteen resources were included that fit into the STEM topic
presented to students. Digital evaluation forms were created for the students and the host of the
booktalk to complete. My personal experience and data gathered from the evaluation forms were
used to create a self evaluation narrative.

  • 2. All-Majors Career Fair Job Analysis Last week I attended the Kennesaw State University All Majors Career Fair. This event took place in the Dr. Betty L. Siegel Student Recreation and Activities Center. I had several tables that I wanted to visit. However, there three recruiters that I received signatures from were Peace Corps, Kohl s and Bright Horizon Family Solutions. I believe that each of these job opportunities could use a Psychologymajor. I say this because psychology can be applied to nearly every job. The Peace Corps table had a recruiter by the name of Todd H. I came to this booth because a huge aspect of this company is to gain leadership experiences. I believe that I could gain more experience in this department because leadership is not one of my best qualities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I recognize that I don t have the most professional look at this point in my life. Having a tattoo on my left forearm and a side shave can be a hit or miss in the work field. Some in employers can view it as a way to add character or diversity to their company. While others may turn their nose up at the sight and immediately reject me on the spot. In this situation, jobs that involve psychology directly would most likely not accept this look. I struggled with accepting this and attempted to hide my less professional aspects. I washed my hair so that I could flip my part in an attempt to cover my side shave. Even though it was hot in the gym, I still wore a sweater that covered my tattoo. These precautions actually made me feel less confident and created more self conscious thoughts. I had to constantly remember not to tuck my hair behind my ear or push my sleeves up my arm. Both of these actions would result in exposing my unprofessional tattoo and hair. I also feared that I would become noticeable sweaty because a room full of college students, interviewing for future jobs can heat up even the best air conditioned room. I was also self conscious about that fact that I had recently bitten my nails. Believe it or not, but a lot of recruiters pay attention to even the tiniest of details, such as the maintenance of your finger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Shawl By Cynthia Ozick Dyshere Logan Tammy Geidel AP English Languish and Composition 4 August 2014 A Summary of The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick is an emotional tale of how a young mother had her daughter ripped away from her in the worst possible way. The novella begins with the short story The Shawl . The shawl is quite short, but it leaves an emotional impact on the reader that isn t forgotten throughout the entire book. The setting of The Shawl is in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. A young mother named Rosa is trying to stay alive with her very young baby Magda, and her niece Stella. All three of the girls are in critical health due to the terrible conditions of the camp. Rosa and Stella are no longer able to menstruate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While at the camp stella saw the bond that Rosa and Magda had. She was envious of the love that they shared. Stella herself wanted to be cared and nurtured for like Magda was. Something else that drove Stella to act the way she did was the fact that Magda was different from them. Magda was not like the other jews in the concentration camp. Although she only a baby, Magda had the features of an aryan . This was probably another reason Stella did such an evil deed. Stella without remorse stole Magda s only thread of hope for survival. The shawl that stella stole was the only driving force keeping Magda alive. She purposefully ripped it from her to lead to her demise. This really showed who stella was and who she was always going to be. Even after Stella escaped the camp and made a life for herself she was still the same cold, selfish, and spiteful girl she had been in the camp. Ozick writing Stella as such an awful antagonist definitely got the theme across that betraying the ones you love and being self doesn t make for a happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Taxation Without Representation Oppressors or Bullies? Taxation Without Representation Why weren t the thirteen colonies willing to abide by England s laws? While some people were horrified with the Stamp Act, others were completely accepting of this new act. Janis Herbert stated in her book, The American Revolution for Kids, that after the French and Indian War, England had many debts, which obviously needed to be paid (3). England s Parliament decided the American colonists needed to pay their debts for them. England went about this matter by raising taxes and requiring a stamp for fifty different documents (Gale Encyclopedia Par. 2). Since America was not yet a country, and had no representation, they were trapped with the laws Parliament passed. Even though England was trying to pay off their debts from the French Indian War, they went about it the wrong way, because they expected the American colonists to pay by increased tax dollars. This is an example of taxation without representation, because the American colonists didn t have representatives, or the opportunity to vote. To help pay off their debt, England scheduled the initiation of the Stamp Act, which placed a tax on fifty different documents, on November 1, 1765 (Gale Par. 2; Brindell 13). This act was to put a tax upon every paper commonly called a pamphlet and upon every newspaper (Copeland 193). Because the Stamp Act was an internal tax, which meant this tax law was only enforced in America, this made the colonists even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about Macklemore Otherside Analysis Otherside Macklemore We live on the cusp of death thinking that it won t be us, (l.32). Macklemore is saying that people think that they will not die from doing drugs. In this song Macklemore is stating that drugs can be really addictive also he states that drugs can really mess you up and how media influences you to do drugs, for example rappers like Lil Waynewhich he talks about in this song and Wiz Kalifa. Strong poetic devices permeate throughout Macklemore s song Otherside for example he uses allusions, repetition and end rhyme. An example of a poetic device that Macklemore uses in this song is allusion. One allusion Macklemore uses is Groundhog Daylife repeat each time (l.59). Macklemore uses repetition in his songs to help emphasize what he is talking about. One other poetic device that Macklemore uses in his song is end rhyme. One form of end rhyme in his song would be, there s no way to glorify this pavement/ syrup, Percocet, hit an eight a day will leave you broke depressed and emotionally vacant, (ll.45 46). The rhyme in this line would be pavement and vacant which is also a forced rhyme. He also states that if you become addicted to drugs you can go broke, go into a type of depression and become emotionally vacant in other words destroy you. Another use of end rhyme in this song would be, surprise, you know the drill / trapped in a box, to climb record sales/ follow the formula violence, drugs and sex sells/ so we try to sound like someone else (ll.40 43). In this line the words that would rhyme would be sales, sells, and else. Macklemore is also stating the fakeness of today s rappers who tend to rap about drugs and things they haven t done when they should be rapping about their lives and struggles they have been through. Macklemore uses end rhyme to tie in certain lines that should be read together. Media can really affect how someone thinks or looks at drugs and Macklemore helps explain this trough this song by using allusions, repetitions, and end rhyme. This also applies to my life by ... • 6. Detection or Identification of Trace Amounts of Explosives The detection and/or identification of trace amounts of explosives. The review of each method should include a description of the way the method works and the advantages and drawbacks of the technique. Introduction An explosive, are reactive substances that contain a large amount of potential energy that can yield an explosion if they are released rapidly, they are accompanied by the production of light, heat, sound, and pressure. Mainly used in the mining industry for extraction of minerals and resources, explosives have been used as a weapon of destruction. Explosives often contain oxidising substances such as nitrates chlorates, and a binding agent such as ammonium and potassium, which can be detected and analysed to prevent such substances from being used as a weapon. Explosives detection is critically important in many field settings (e.g., military facilities, minefields, crime scenes, and remediation sites) and has become a necessity for the safety of the general public (e.g., at airports and mass transit areas), there remains a demand for inexpensive and reliable explosive instruments for identifying specific explosives. High explosives are considered to be organic and oxidizing, a relatively uncommon mixture that makes them tractable for molecular recognition. On 22 December 2001 Richard Colvin Reid also known as the Shoe Bomber attempted to detonate explosives packed into the shoes he was wearing, while on American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami. ... When a person thinks of an element that is very strong, they also think that the item would be very heavy. Titanium is different; the element is very strong, but it is also very light weight. Since Titaniumis so strong, it is named after the strong Greek mythology Titans (History of Titanium). The element, Titanium, is one of the most abundant elements. Since the element is resistant to corrosion from things such as sea water and chlorine, it is often found being used in the industrial world. The element is used in heat exchangers; if the heat exchangers were made of a different element they would need to be replaced more often due to corrosion. A very strong alloy is produced when Titanium is combined with iron, aluminum, vanadium, and molybdenum. This alloy is found in large items such as: jet engines, missiles, spacecraft, military equipment, and even automobiles. The alloy is also used in many things that we are known to love. Americans usually carry items with them everyday that are made up of this alloy. For example, right now in my car I have many items that are made up of the alloy such as: jewelry, a cell phone, and a football helmet grill (History of Titanium). The element, Titanium, has a very low toxicity. Although, when Titanium is in powder form it is becomes a fire hazard (Titanium). Unfortunately, when most people think of a success they automatically think of a man because society has instilled in us that men have the most power. There has been improvement already made towards business women, but unfortunately working women still do not have equal rights. Regina Blaszczyk said in the last sixty years there has been revolutionary changes in the status of business women. As there was a huge competition for imported goods at a cheaper price, the organization had decided to establish a manufacturing plant and import goods from one of the three countries namely Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam. This report will be focusing on how Vietnam could be a potential country for setting up an entirely new manufacturing plant to produce quality textiles and export back to Queensland. Further adding on to the report, it attempts to analyze the pros and cons, followed by the industry overview and analysis. In the next paragraphs, the market for the textile industry will be analyzed using the industry data. In addition to this, tools such as porter five forces model will be used to analyzing the potential as a host market for manufacturing. And finally the recommendation declaring if the market in Vietnam is feasible for manufacturing or not. Industry Overview Over the course of little more than a decade, Vietnam has become a significant exporter of garments to the EU and Japan, and now to the Australia too. • 11. Critical Information About A Patient s Plan Of Care Specific problem requiring change and Situation description: The shift report between the off going and oncoming nurses must include all of the critical information about a patient s plan of care. This information must be communicated. The change of shift report that is done incorrectly can be a result of missed information and poor communication between nurses, affecting their ability to deliver safe and efficient care for the patients. This problem occurs not just at one but at most hospitals, where inter shift report still continues to take place at the nursing station without inclusion or a visual of the patient until the report is done. As I witnessed shift report in the hallways or at the nursing stations of SCVMC of the 33 bed mother and baby unit, I noticed that at times unnecessary information is received and critical information may not be communicated. On the other hand, at Redwood City Kaiser neuroscience unit bedside inter shift nursing report works well and I have witnessed better nurse patient relationship, lower incidents of falls, strong teamwork, as well as improved nurse accountability and prioritization at the beginning of the shift. As evidence shows in the article Improving Client and Nurse Satisfaction Through the Utilization of Bedside Report , there is a direct correlation between the bedside report and both client and nurse satisfaction in care settings, validating the importance of changing to bedside report (Vines, Dupler, Guido, 2014). • 12. Siemens Development Strategy Siemens AG: Global Development Strategy What were the major causes of the problems with the NetManager project? (I m not looking for a list of points made in the case; I m looking for you to step back to a higher level and analyze why these problems occurred.) The problems experienced by the NetManager project appear to be symptoms of integration vs. responsiveness issue within Siemens AG. As a transnational company, Siemens faces strong pressure to globally integrate its operations, and be responsive to the needs of their offices and customer s needs. The main problem with NetManager was that it had mushroomed in size and strategic importance. This was the result of keeping up with the rapidly changing technological demands, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The case also traces back their erroneous assumptions to a lack of communication between German managers and Indian developers due to extended vacations with no alternative outlet for which to seek necessary support. Munich headquarters had been too removed from the realities and operations of the Bangalore office, and failed to provide the adequate support needed to build NetManager. This translates to an issue of global integration. What should Siemens do next regarding the Net Manager project? Having outlined a lack of support from Munich headquarters as a reason for NetManager s shortcomings, Siemens should keep project development in Bangalore. Rather than shifting development to Europe, which would result in tremendous transaction costs, Siemens should shift the necessary resources for completion to Bangalore. First, they should send the necessary executive knowledge, meaning German executives with the in depth knowledge of EWSD systems. This would overcome interdependency issues, and guarantee greater quality at each step of the development process. Next, they should make the proper investments in infrastructure and systems hardware. The Bangalore RDC should be as up to date as possible, so as to avoid the prior testbed problem, and so that their office may be as equipped as possible to adapt to changing technological trends. In the short term, this results in a completed NetManager program that meets the needs and standards of their largest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, conflict transformation responds to social conflict between members of the society in order to decrease violence, promote justice, endorse progress, maintain interaction and social norms, and upholds human relationships (Lederach, 2003). The conflicttransformation perspective views conflict as a normal continuous factor throughout society because conflict occurs in everyday surroundings when relationships among people are disrupted (Lederach, 2003). The justice as retribution worldwide emphasizes on punitive measures such as deterrence and incapacitation in order to establish justice against offenders who have committed significant crimes including murder, robbery, or theft (Wenzel et al., 2008). This implies that punishment remains a central element in order to deter future crimes because members of the society would learn the importance of social norms and regulations as violation of those laws would promote harmful consequences (Wenzel et al., 2008). The offenders sentenced to punishment do not need to demonstrate remorse or empathy towards the victim for the harms inflicted on them (Wenzel et al., 2008). Punishment is viewed as justice because it labels the individual as the culprit of the state, which deprives the individual s status (Wenzel et al., 2008). Nevertheless, when the punishment is imposed against the offender, then the statuses of the victim and the community members are restored (Wenzel et al., 2008). Population Growth On Environment And Development According to Ray (1998), every four days there is a net population increase of over one million people, and this exponential increase is greatly associated as being one of the main drivers of poverty and environmental degradation worldwide (Dasgupta, 1995), resulting in extreme stress on ecosystem services (ES), as well as human development. However, the extent to which future populationgrowth will be a problem for both the environment and development is disputed amongst academics around four main models which link population, environment, and development together. In this essay, I will begin by exploring the vicious circle and Malthusian models and their views of population growthon environment and development, and contrast these with the Boserup and Cornucopian models using examples, before concluding. The exponential growth of global population has seen the per annum population increase go from taking 100 years between the 1st billion and 2nd billion to just 16 years between the 6th and 7th billion (Ray, 1998). The Malthusian (/ neo Malthusian) model developed by Thomas Malthus in 1798, as well as the Vicious Circle Model (VCM) both regard population growth as an extreme problem for both the environment and for the development of nations. The Malthusian theories links how as global population increases exponentially and food production remains linear, a critical point comes whereby shortages of food will result in large scale famine and death until population values ... All three of the main characters in these stories have all destroyed something. Rather it be important to them or someone else. In the short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, the author explains how everyone is equal . If you were beautiful, you had to wear a mask to hide the beauty. If you were strong, you had to wear a certain amount of birdshot in order to pull you down. The treatment everyone had to deal with was unfair. Some things about living still weren t quite right, though. April, for instance, still drove people crazy by not being springtime. And it was in that clammy month that the H G men took George and Hazel Bergeron s fourteen year old son, Harrison, away. Harrison, a fourteen year old boy, was taken away from his family for being different. In contrast to the definitive nature of the endings of the other books, the final chapterof Are You Somebody leaves readers hanging. Athens decided which of the allied states would contribute ships and which would contribute money. This was an early stage in the Athens leadership, yet although there are no signs of change in her treatment towards the allies, there is distant indication of inequality. However, these treasurers were Athenian (known as hellenotamiae). It would be considered fairer to have appointed treasurers from different members of the alliance for a stronger sense of equality. It is possible that Athens is already enforcing her authority upon her allies at this early stage in the development of the league. Athens also had great power as leader. An oath sworn by all members of the league indicated that Athens would hold the place of leadership and authority for as long as the league was established. By dropping iron weights into the sea, the oath was symbolic that Athens reign of leadership was permanent. Athens stood faithfully by this oath, even when Persia was finally defeated at Eurymedon in 468 BC. From a utilitarian approach, the homunculi know that some would end up with an unfair advantage of basic liberties, while others would be severely and unjustly disadvantaged. This would occur as a result of the definition of utilitarianism; to create the highest amount of utility averaged among all people in the society. Within the greatest average utility, there are certain to be outliers who are severely disadvantaged. It would seem only reasonable to assume the homunculi would choose the principle that guarantees equal liberties for all over the utilitarian perspective where some would surely be disadvantaged. Christopher Marlowe s play dealt with this controversial topic in 1590 s. The story of Doctor Faustus is just as relevent today as it was hundreds of years ago. This paper will be a study of the pros and cons of the idea of selling your soul to the devil. Doctor Faustus was a well respected scholar; he was bored of and not happy with traditional forms of knowledge like logic, medicine, law, and religion. He wanted to learn magic so two of his friends promised to teach him the secrets of black magic. The first thing he did was summon Mephasthophilis, one of Lucifer s servants. • 38. Conspicuous Consumption in Sinclair Lewis Babbit Essay Conspicuous Consumption in Sinclair Lewis Babbit The idea of conspicuous consumption, or buying unnecessary items to show one s wealth, can be seen in Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis. Lewis describes the main character of the book, George F. Babbitt, as a person who has his values and priorities all mixed up. Babbitt buys the most expensive and modern material goods just to make himself happy and make people around his aware of his status. He is more concerned about these items than about his wife or children and to him, god was Modern Appliances (Lewis 5). But in Babbitt s house the towel rack was a rod of clear glass set in nickel (5). Even the tooth brush holder, shaving brush holder, soap dish...resembled an electrical instrument board (5). The Babbitt bedroom was full of things deemed valuable, like toilet articles of almost solid silver and mattresses which had cost a great deal of money (13 14). Their house had the latest conveniences such as three plugs for electric lamps and a dining room with its admirable oak buffet and leaded glass cupboard (14). Babbitt had everything at home and even the very best of water coolers, up to date, scientific, and right thinking (32) at the office. To him, having all of this was why his life was worth living. He would buy items of great monetary value, and in return, his social standing would rise. Lewis wants to show the reader that material possessions are not everything, and can lead one astray. Babbitt thought he had it all, a nice house, a nice car, all furnished with the latest objects. What Babbitt did not have, however, was a wife and children who cared for him and whom he loved with all his heart. His life had no direction and everything eventually came crashing down on him. Men and women equally farmed and took care of the family, both fulfilling the role as provider and nurturer (Robin 409). So there is a bit of confusion as to how somewhere down the line, 19th century civilizations diverged so far away from the original genderroles laid out by our ancestors. As Rap music moves forward, subgenres rise and start to create their own distinctive sounds, and this is where rap begins to split. Both systems enable cells to communicate with others by using chemical messengers. The endocrine system uses chemical messengers called hormones that are transported by the circulatory system (blood). They act on target cells that may be anywhere in the body. The endocrine system is slower than the nervous system because hormones must travel through the circulatory system to reach their target. Target cells have receptors that are specific to the signaling molecules. The binding of hormones to the receptors on or within the target cell produces a response by the target cell. • 49. Stereotypes In Forrest Gump White privilege and stereotypes are two ways race can influence a person s everyday life. White privilege can be defined simply as white people getting special privileges and rights because they are white. This can be seen when a white person gets a job opposed to a person of color or when white people are able to live in nicer neighborhoods while people of color live in crime ridden ones because white peoplehave more wealth. White privilege has become so normal that most people fail to see it in action. Furthermore, stereotypes can have many harmful effects as well. Stereotypes can be defined as distorted views or inaccurate beliefs about a group of people. Not all stereotypes are bad, but many of them are. An example could be saying that all African Americans are good at sports. However, this is not always the case. Stereotypes may sometimes seem harmless, but these beliefs can impact a person s life. White privilege and stereotypes are two different concepts, but they both have similar effects that tend to hurt people of color more than they hurt white people. Both of these ideas appear in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, which was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film depicts white privilege by showing only white people in positions of power, illustrates stereotypes about people of color by having a stereotypical black family, and changes black history by having a white person make achievements that people of color really made. Forrest Gump is a movie that follows a man throughout the story of his life. It starts out with Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop when the bus arrives and a woman steps out and sits down next to him. He begins to talk to her and he offers her some chocolate. The way he talks hints to the fact that he is not the most intelligent person. He then starts to talk about her shoes which leads him to a flashback of his childhood in Greenbow, Alabama in about 1945. From there he starts to talk about everything that has happened in his life that has led him to where he is now. What I don t think about and had never even considered before reading the book Ordinary Men is what it was like to be a member of one of the police battalions that had to do all these gut wrenchingly terrible crimes toward innocent human beings.
