Process
First I created a sprite sheet in photoshop
where I created a basic walk animation
from a side view and a back view. I used the
pencil tool in order to create the pixel art.
To make the sprites exact to eachother, I
duplicated them and then edited the legs
for each frame of the walk cycle.
Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– I will include creating spritesheets in my final
product as I found it useful to have a sheet of all
the sprites I will use. It allows me to keep track of
sprites and also allows me to create animation
cycles easier.
Process
Next, I created a side scrolling
background. I did this by
creating a new canvas that was
double the width of the main
canvas. I then drew the
background here. I used
minimal colours so that the
character sprite would stand
out against the background,
and the background wouldn’t
draw focus away from the
character.
Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– I will include this method of creating a side
scrolling background, as it is simple and easy to
do.
Process I combined the background
and spritesheet on the
main canvas. To animate
the image, I created a
frame animation timeline.
To move the sprite, I
moved it left 3 pixels for
each frame until it reached
the center, then I moved
the background 3 pixels
instead to create the
scrolling background as the
sprite appears to move. So
it looks like walking, I
switched between sprites
in the walk cycle
spritesheet I created.
Process
For the textbox I created a simple back
box with a red outline and then added
red text. A similar method was used for
the game over screen.
Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– I will include the animation process in my final
product, such as moving the scrolling background
once the character sprite reaches the center of
the screen.
Process
I used beepbox to create music for
my side scrolling experiment. I tested
creating sounds and created a
looping tune and then exported it as
a .wav file.
Reflection

– I will use beepbox to create game music in my
final product, as it is easy to use.
