Duality In Cannery Row
Cannery Row: A Literary Excavation on Duality Cannery Row is a town located in Monterey,
California. Despite being small, dirty and crowded, it is a well functioned town and is home to people
from different walks of life. In the novel s prologue, John Steinbeck wrote the following: Its
inhabitants are, as one man once said, whores, pimps, gamblers, and sons of bitches by which he
meant Everybody and [have] the man looked through another peephole he might have said: Saints and
angels and martyrs and holy men, and he would have meant the same thing (Steinbeck 1). He basically
comments that the difference in viewpoints given the same event results from the power of perspective
and duality observed in people. One might see Cannery Row as a low down place while the others
might see Cannery Row as a lively, vigorous town. One would see a character s actions disputable
while the others would see their behaviors admirable. The viewpoints of the readers and the way
characters behave at various times explain the fact that Cannery Row and its inhabitants possess
qualities crossing good and evil.
Cannery Row begins with the character Lee Chong, a small grocery owner that supplies the town. Lee
was depicted as a kind and generous man, and his good nature was reflected through his appearance
and personality. Steinbeck states that [his] mouth was full and benevolent and the flash of gold when
he smiled was rich and warm (Steinbeck 7). This simple passage gives us a clear first

Marriage in The Ceiling by Kevin Brockmeier
In today s society, the notion and belief of growing old, getting married, having kids, and a
maintaining of a happy family, seems to be a common value among most people. In Kevin
Brockmeier s short story, The Ceiling, Brockmeier implies that marriage is not necessary in our
society. In fact, Brockmeier criticizes the belief of marriage in his literary work. Brockmeier reveals
that marriage usually leads to or ends in disaster, specifically, all marriages are doomed to fail from
the start. Throughout the story, the male protagonist, the husband, becomes more and more separated
from his wife. As the tension increases between the protagonist and his wife, Brockmeier symbolizes a
failing marriage between the husband and wife as he depicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The city lights were burning, and Joshua was sleeping in his room (Brockmeier 94). In society and in
most modern cultures throughout the world, the aspect of city lights and brightly lit stars, gives off the
sense of love and intimacy. However, the bright lights and stars, did not give off a sense of love and
intimacy. Instead, the narrator describes the couple mentally broken and distraught as they sat in
silence pondering about their problems. They sat together, but respected each other s stillness as they
wrapped their own silence. Although right next to each other, they were both in their own worlds and
not sharing their thoughts and emotions. This scene is a significant indication of understanding the
beginnings of their skewed relationship.
Brockmeier shows Melissa as someone who ceases to exist. Throughout the short story, Melissa is
limited in dialogue, and the few instances when she speaks, it seems as if Melissa is hiding and
concealing her genuine thoughts. The night of her son s birthday, the narrator realizes that he is faced
with a distressed wife as she reveals that her, life is a mess (Brockmeier, 94). She foreshadows the
object of the sky or the ceiling as a symbol, as it comes closer to the ground. Like

National Security Requires a Clear Acknowledgement of the...
Introduction
To succeed, we must face the world as it is (Obama, 2010, p.1). Globalization has resulted in
interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer
can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are
our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future
generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers
and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole
possessor and arbiter of influence.
The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age
of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world
order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we
must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin
veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on
our national security.
Brief History of Ukraine
An independent country embroiled in civil war, Ukraine fell prey to attack from Soviet forces in 1921.
The acquisition of the eastern two thirds of the state by Russia was considered crucial...to the
formation of the Soviet Union (Conant, 2014). Over the next two decades,

San Andreas Fault Earth Earthquake
1906 San Andreas Fault Earth Quake: A Catalyst to Scientific Understanding In 1906 a geological
event occurred that has impacted not only the United States, but also the global scientific community.
The 1906 San Andreas earthquake devastated thousands of people and left parts of California in
shambles for nearly 300 miles (Galvin). People were capable of feeling the seismic activity as far
north as Oregon, southern California, and reports of vibrations were even felt in Nevada. This paper
will discuss what exactly happened on April 18, 1906, why the earthquake occurred, why the
earthquake has historical significance, and how similar earthquakes impact the environment and
people. Finally, this paper will conclude with a discussion on how information obtained from the San
Andreas earthquake helped to educate scientist about the earthquake and future earthquakes. 1906
marked six years after the turn of the century where the world was experiencing technological
breakthroughs throughout all disciplines of science. Earthquakes, up until that time were a
phenomenon that many didn t know much about. Scientists didn t know the causes and hadn t
experienced an event as drastic as the earthquake caused by the San Andreas fault s shifting. The
severity of the earthquake is recognized in history due to the human toll which left nearly a thousand
dead. The aftermath left fires burning due to damage to public buildings and residences left in the
debris. It is thought that many

type is ESRI experiencing most acutely? Elaborate and provide strategic implications for ESRI. a) In
this case, I think the ESRI suffer the most in the technology uncertainty. i. Concerns over
obsolescence. Technology is evolved extremely rapidly with the relevant elements develop
simultaneously and interactively. Microsoft and Google integrate PC, Broadband Internet connection

b) In my opinion, ESRI face very severe challenges bring by the disruptive technologies. i. New
innovation came out with bulk of relevant advanced technologies, and gradually absorbed
considerable customers and occupied a big market. That what Google earth did and had already put a
great threat to existing GIS. The new virtual globe has leaded the GIS industry into a new ear and
changes the situation of GIS from professional use to mass entertainment. 4. Should ESRI explicitly
target the new GIS customer (mainstream, nonprofessional, low end)? If so, what organizational
changes might this require? a) Personally, I think due to the great market potential, ESRI should target
this group of internet users as further customer. The internet users among the world increase sharply as
the rapid popularity of PC and internet, thus, the great potential of the mass market can not been
ignored, otherwise, the market share of professional software will be reduced as the development of
competitors. b) Organization Changes. The company s value network, business model and particularly
the organization structure need to change to adapt to the new market. ESRI organization structure need
to be more decentralized, with fluid job responsibilities and extensive lateral communication
processes. Members

Comparing The Pursuit Of Happiness And Very Happy People
Throughout all of the differences in this world, one thing we have in common is the desire to obtain
happiness. Many articles have been written about the pursuit of happiness and how one can attain it.
With an assortment of articles over the topic, it is only natural for many different views and ideas to be
expressed by the numerous authors. Despite the many differences of opinions and beliefs of many
authors, they all agree that happiness comes from helping others, living to a person s own values, and
knowing what the true definition of happiness is. Carlin Flora s article The Pursuit of Happiness and
Ed Diener and Martin Seligman s Very Happy People agree that even the happiest people do not have
feelings of ecstasy or euphoric emotions. Flora, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, some of those great emotions will fade away, and some will help happiness be consistent. In
The Pursuit of Happiness and Very Happy People, there are similar points supporting the theory that
happiness comes from helping others. Once again, there are reliable resources to back these claims,
including another article, Just For the Joy of it. This article was written by Vicki Zakrzewski to
address the topic of altruism. Altruism is a natural part of all of us, states Zakrzewski as she talks
about the practice of selfless concern for others (Zakrezewski 22). Flora shows her full support of
Zakrzewski s statement when she encourages the reader to perform acts of kindness for others on a
regular basis to lift your mood in the moment and over time (Flora 69). Diener and Seligman s results
showed that the very happy people had good social relationships. Good social relationships are formed
on selflessness and sacrifice, further proving that altruism is a large factor in happiness. While making
others feel good can increase happiness, it can also stem from making one s self feel good, both
physically and

Cannabis Infused In Tea
Aim:
The FACING study is designed to test the hypothesis that cannabis infused in tea will increase blood
ghrelin levels as significantly as fasting does. We will randomise patients to (a) administer cannabis
tea or (b) undergo fasting. The results of this study will lead to future interventions for patients with
weight related conditions.
Research Plan: Participants
Patients will be eligible for the study if they are between 18 to 50 years of age and have no previous
use of cannabis (cannabis naive). Patients will be required to have a diastolic blood pressure equal
to/higher than 90 mmHg or a systolic blood pressure equal to/lower than 140 (Tam et al., 2011). All
patients will be required to provide written informed consent to participate in the study. The protocol
will need to be approved by the institutional review boards and ethic committees.
Patients will be excluded from the proposed study if they are diabetics as cannabis has the ability to
induce glucose intolerance (Muniyappa et al., 2013). Patients who are younger than 18 years old will
also be excluded from this study since cannabis use can cause deterioration of neurocognitive function
in attention and memory (Jacobus Tapert, 2014). It will also alter the macrostructural brain, such as
morphology of gray matter tissue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

at 10:45am. Blood samples will be withdrawn every 15 minutes in both treatment groups and the tubes
will be recorded with the exact blood extraction time. This procedure will be repeated for three hours
in both treatment groups, thus 12 blood samples will be collected during this treatment period. The
fasting group will be woken at 6am, immediately fill out their questionnaire and then have their

Communication skills throughout the simulation were advantageous. This included communication
with other participants, other medical staff such as Dr. Black and communication with the patient.
Specifically, when communicting with the patient, if this communication is poor it can increase the
patients feelings of stress and fear, thus overall leading to increased anxiety and a loss of confidence in
the medical team (Razera Braga, 2011, p. 635). This leads the to mistrust of the medical staff from

Bright was experiencing some central chest pain, radiating to his left shoulder and jaw. He rated this
pain as a 6/10. Glyceryl trinitrate spray was administered but he is still experiencing pain.
Observations were fine when he came to us here at the ward, but now his blood pressure and
respiratory rates have increased.
Additionally, Mr. Bright is beginning to feel quite nauseous.
He is experiencing pain in his femoral artery site.
Background:
Mr. Bright is a type 2 diabetic with a history of hypertension of 10 years and an increasing unstable
angina which is the reasoning for the PCI. The PCI was a tough procedure to the right coronary artery,
with some myocardial ischemia identified and a 10% residual stenosis. Additionally, Mr. Bright
smokes 20 cigarettes per day.
Assessment:
A spray of the GTN was administered sublingually as this has subsided the chest pain however the
wound site pain remains.
The wound site is beginning to grow in redness and warmth, Mr. Bright may have a haematoma
forming here.
Recommendation:
I would recommend giving Mr. Bright some of his PRN morphine.
Additionally I would recommend some kind of anti emetic to subside the current nausea and prevent
additional nausea often associated with morphine

Corinthians 15
The Grace of God (1 Corinthians 15:9 10)
Corinthians 15 is intensively talking about the Resurrection of Jesus. Greeks believed in the
immortality of the soul, but did not believe in the bodily resurrection.
Corinthian church members who were affected by this Greek idea had a tendency to not believe in the
bodily resurrection of Jesus. In response, Paul proved the validity of the Resurrection by presenting
authoritative evidence of the Old Testaments and the evidence of witnesses to the bodily resurrection
of Jesus. The Resurrection did not happen in the corner secretly, but it was the historical fact that
many people witnessed at the same time. Thus, many people saw the resurrected Jesus as the spiritual
body.

The word grace is the word translated for Charis in the Greek scriptures. Because it is the grace that
comes from God, it is called, Charis to theo, which is the grace of God. The word grace is a word that
points to the grace of God s redemption that came to us in Christ. The mercy of God who loves the
sinner is the grace. Grace is the love of God who sent Jesus to this earth to save sinners. The grace of
God is that we have changed through Jesus Christ, in other words, the gospel, and that we live in this
earth as the children of God. Taking a breath today is the grace of God. Coming to church and
enjoying worship are the grace of God.
Everyone lives by the grace of God. There are people who realize that and people who don t realize
that. Please become a person who realizes the grace of God.
Paul deeply realized the grace of God. Charis, the word grace is the key word in Paul s letter. Charis,
the word grace appears 51 times in the whole bible other than Paul s letter. However, the word Charis
appears 101 times in his letter. Even looking at only these numbers, you can see that Charis is a
characteristic main term of Paul s letter. This would suggest that there was a deep enlightenment of
God s grace. I will introduce some of the verses in Paul s letter.

Pigeonholing Dalmatians As Firehouse Dogs
The notion was not conceived in the backlot of a Hollywood studio; nor did it flow from the creative
pens of authors or playwrights. In fact, pigeonholing Dalmatians as firehouse dogs as depicted in films
and read in books, is based on fact. The spotted, sleek, and muscular dog has a long association with
firefighting, and not just riding shotgun in a fire truck. The dog s rapport with horses, and its ability to
run long distances, were attributes that originally earmarked this breed of dog in assisting firefighters

Prior to modern pumper and ladder trucks, transportation for firefighters depended on horse power

Barnes Noble Goes Local
MEMORANDUM
Date: February 9, 2015
To: Michael P. Huseby
From: Dana Gorder, Corporate Strategist
RE: Barnes Noble Goes Local
Why shouldn t we judge a book by its cover? As the country s leading brick and mortar bookseller,
Barnes Noble (B N) needs to transform its super store appearance and atmosphere instead of cutting
into markets with well established competition, such as ebooks and campus bookstores. Along with
the rising trend of the buy local movement, people prefer the atmosphere of a local bookstore to that
of a large retailer, and if B N wants to avoid Borders fate, we have to adopt the look and feel of a more
community connected, local store.
The Situation
Barnes Noble is in trouble. Sales in all three B N branches Nook, Retail, and College have continually
dropped since 2012 and analysts expect sales to decline another 7 percent this year (IBISWorld).
Nook
Revenue decreased more than 50 percent last year (BN.com)
Distributors like Target no longer carry the Nook due to lack of profitability (Kozlowski)
Retail
Revenue decreased 6.3 percent last year (BN.com)
BUT without taking into account Nook product failures, sales improved at the end of the year
(BN.com)
College
Revenue decreased 6 percent last year (BN.com)
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization (EBITDA) increased this year
Although B N College appears to have a bright future, its growth is limited. First, profits increased

Essay about Mexicos Economy An Politics In 19th Century
Civil war had destroyed both social stability and the economy. Also, few people had enough political
experience to bind Mexico together. The first constitution, spread in 1824, giving state legislators the
power to elect both the president and the vice president. A result of this constitution, caused a series of
weak presidents struggled to form an effective government.
During this time, Mexico s political elite began to divide into two opposing factions: conservatives
and liberals. The conservatives favored a highly centralized government and wanted to maintain the
Catholic Church s power and control of educational facilities.

troops occupied much of northern Mexico by the end of the year. Mexico City fell on September 14,
1847, and Mexican forces surrendered soon thereafter. The Río Grande was fixed as the southern
boundary of Texas. Territory, which now forms the states of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona,
Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming, became part of the United States.
Liberal rebel leader Juan Álvarez became the provisional president of Mexico. The 1855 takeover of
the government by the liberals began a period known as La Reforma, in which liberal leaders sought
to reduce the power of the church and the military in Mexican politics and society. Later that year
Ignacio Comonfort, a liberal who sought a more gradual pace of reform, replaced President Álvarez.
In 1857 the liberals enacted a new constitution, which reestablished a federal form of government. It
provided for individual rights, universal male suffrage, freedom of speech, and other civil liberties.
The constitution also abolished special courts for members of the military or clergy, and ordered the
church and other institutions to auction off any land or buildings not absolutely necessary for their
operation.
Conservative groups bitterly opposed the new constitution. In 1858 a political revolt overthrew
President Comonfort and Juárez became provisional president. Soon afterward conservatives who had
participated in the revolt forced Juárez to flee Mexico City; he established a new seat of government

Strindberg s The Stronger Essay
Strindberg s The Stronger
In The Stronger Strindberg focuses upon the role and importance of women at the turn of the 20th
century. This is portrayed through a conversation of two women who have different lives and social
statuses. Mrs. X is married and therefore socially stronger. Miss Y is unmarried and rather poignantly,
doesn t speak.
At the turn of the 20th century, women were seen as 2nd class citizens to men. However, this entire
play is set in a women s café where
Strindberg s purpose is to allow the two characters to fully express their feelings rather than be
influenced and controlled by men. Since the play focuses upon the role and importance of marriage
and family, the setting of Christmas is significant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

her paper, nods perfunctually, then goes on reading. This is the first time in the play that the characters
are together. Strindberg has used this direction to show the audience how Miss Y feels about Mrs X.
She is intimidated by Mrs X and uses the paper as a barrier . She doesn t reciprocate Mrs Xs greeting
and is being defensive. This signals a weakness to the audience and the direction has been used to
reveal a little bit of
Miss Y s personality.
The personalities of the characters can be explored by stage directions. For example, (With Malken s

striving for a reaction and attention from Miss Y. She has gone too far and invaded Miss Y s personal
space. Mrs X has used a child s toy to do this and is being childish. Mrs X has lost her strength.
Strindberg has used this stage direction to show the audience how persistent Mrs X is when seeking
attention from Miss Y.

Violent Video Games Effect On Children
Blast! Head shot! That guy was pulverized! These are only a few samples of the dialog talked between
kids who play games such as like Call of Duty or Halo . In today s age, kids frequently boast about the
quantity of players they figured out how to kill while playing these video games. Two decades ago,
this would not be the typical waste of time of an eleven year old, yet now kids are seeing this kind of
brutal movement as simply one more approach to take a break on a Saturday morning. Since the video
game market is blasting at this moment because of progressive gaming systems like the Wii,
Playstation, and Xbox, this issue is turning out to be more serious; parents should be mindful of and
strongly advised about the reasons why violent video games could hurt their children. Despite the fact
that the violence in these video games is fictional, the essential ideas driving the savagery have been
demonstrated to prompt more aggressive behavior in developing children. Violent video games
instruct youngsters that brutality is acceptable and fun at the same time, have been demonstrated to
prompt forceful practices in kids, furthermore desensitize kids. The brutal demonstrations portrayed in
video games are transforming the psyches of youthful kids, permitting them to imagine that firearm
violence and executing is a recreational activity.

The Problem Of World Hunger
Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because of rampant
starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on various media. World Hunger is
one of the main problems that a large portion of the global population faces today. Hunger varies with
severity but in this case it is the want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a problem that
has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is
barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating factors and
principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate changes, etc. But the
main debilitating factor is poverty as poverty always has led to people going without regular meals
because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in third world nations and
developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. Whether a country
is rich or poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing with poverty and hunger.
Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are young children. Hunger is a
very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied.
As a matter of fact, people all over the world mainly concentrated in developing countries die because
of hunger and starvation on a daily basis. With the growth of population, the number of hungry people
also increases at a disproportionate rate.

kagame looked theatrical performers who normally took part in kabuki plays due to their heavy use of
makeup and feminine appearance. There are cases of Noh performers resorting to prostitution after a
show in order to please an important person. The substantial difference between the samurai s
relationship with a chigo and a kagema is that the kagema system was based on gender differentiation
as the beauty of the kagema, namely, was compared to that of a courtesan: it trespassed on
heterosexual ground. (Furukawa Makoto 3) Even though it crossed into heterosexual territory, kagema

Kills with bow and arrows was much more valued than courtly arts such as composing waka poems
and playing music. (Sachi Schmidt Hori 90) Hypermasculinity was a major issue before the creation
of Bushido as every man was expected to fit a certain standard of physical strength and kill potential.
In the land of Yamato, the stronger the samurai was and the more threatening he looked, the more
likely he would be hired. This is also true for the literature produced during the early period of Japan.
Authors exaggerated the image of a samurai in this time period to make them seem more honorable
and masculine. In reality, they were farmers, artisans, and common folk. It was not until after the
Genpei war that samurai began to become a integral part of society. At first they were hired
mercenaries, then a hired army, and then the warriors made known by writers standards, such as seen
in the Tale of the Heike. With homosexuality, samurai were always the dominant in the relationship.
Even though homosexuality was not looked down upon, if a samurai submits himself to a person who
is more feminine than him, then he is demoralizing and shaming his samurai

The Rights Of Women And People Of Color
In the past two centuries the primary groups which had to fight for such rights were women and
people of color. Now in the twenty first century, a new group which knows no color and/or gender are
verbally attacked for such ideas. This community is the homosexual community. Although there is
more of a tolerance of homosexual citizens, in general they are still discriminated because often times
one is not willing to accept a different lifestyle but rather practice ignorance to the situation. The idea
of love for one another is nothing new.
It is something that one learns overtime and practices over time. It is a fundamental human right for
one to receive respect from peers despite being different. But rather punish one for practicing ... Show

Fr. Osterreicher argues in his essay Nostra Aetate that all people, despite many different backgrounds
are all the same, All men form but one community. 1 This is because all stem from one stock which
God created to the people the entire earth (cf. Acts 17:26) (Osterreicher 2). This is not mainly a
religious issue but a personal issue that affects us all and for that a call to tolerance means
understanding one individual and his/her life. Another way that such a just world is possible is if one
refuses to be ignorant and believes in stereotypes.
As human beings, we are called to love one another and respect another as well as opinions and
lifestyle and yet it is often difficult to do such a thing. There are many reasons why it is difficult to
accept a person because of who they are. The most common reason is as said before, one is taught the
various prejudices about a group. This happens for many reasons. Often times the ignorance is bliss
mantra wins out in philosophy and becomes the normal thought. One is ignorant because one is afraid
to challenge the status quo due to retribution. The community is however not the only ones at fault.
Usually it also the stereotypes told by outside sources that cause such fear and lack of knowledge.
Such is the case for homosexuals in America and other parts of the world. In the 1980 s it was
rumored that the AIDS epidemic was started with homosexual

Grass Root Innovation Essay
This research aims at bridging important gaps in the way one conceptualizes the evolution of
innovations in the informal sector, by means of formally untrained minds, that have the potential for
Grass Root Innovations (GRIs). It also addresses important gaps in meeting needs of disadvantaged
communities, which formal systems like Science and Technology (S T) have not been able to address
so far, in a manner that is cost effective and affordable. While GRIs cannot provide solutions to all
problems, they can indeed provide solutions for some of them. The conceptual basis, or the heuristics,
underlying these innovations, can sometimes extend the frontiers of science, or improve efficiency in
larger mainstream technological systems, in addition to meeting the local needs. But, incentives for
developing technologies, which will have limited diffusion because of socio ecological conditions, are
difficult to institutionalize. The result being that such niches remain unserved. However, if difficult
regions, with poor market and bureaucratic infrastructure, have to remain outside developmental
impulses, then social harmony is unlikely to be maintained. In this case, it would be difficult to attain
sustainability. Effective inclusion of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trigger to action can be many and each trigger might act upon a social network and/or individuals,
having appropriate motivations, differently. It is not just one factor that determines the propensity to
take action but many, and often in conjunction (Sinha, 2008). Thus, there could be many factors
explaining the reasons why certain opportunities trigger innovations in one setting but not in others.
The relationship between a social network from which support is sought, which may also inhibit the
initiatives or sharing of ideas, and the individual motivations and triggers have to be studied in each
case, so as to understand the innovation process

Obesity is defined as the condition of having excessive accumulation of adipose tissue in proportion to
lean body mass (2), and it has been recognised as one of the main preventable risk factors for the
osteoarthritis (OA) of the large joints in the lower extremities (1, 4, 6, 8, 11, 12). The excess body
weight caused increased biomechanical load to weight bearing joints (4, 8). This will eventually
contribute to increased prevalence of and severity of musculoskeletal disorder and orthopaedic

Essay about Argument Against Human Cloning
In 1997, the first clone of a sheep named Dolly was created. This embryo had a success rate of one to
four percent. When applied to humans, this percentage may decrease and become lower and more
unpredictable. With lives at stake, is it worth the risk of the embryos involved in the unstable process?
Although cloning may allow for new medical procedures and research of diseases and cures, it takes
away from the natural biological order of life, and allows humans to play God while creating a margin
of error which could result in many defects. Many ethical and moral dilemmas arise when discussing
human cloning, and one can have many positions for and against each. To understand the issues
surrounding human cloning, one must have a basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1997, President Clinton proposed a moratorium on cloning that would not allow funding by the
government. A bill was also presented in the Senate in 2001 that would legally ban cloning regardless
of its funding, whether it was federal or private. The repercussions of infringement on this law would
be up to ten years in jail and a fine of up to $10 million (A). Human cloning proposes many arguments
for each opposing side and can greatly impact the modern world based upon the research obtained
through it. Whether or not that research is morally and ethically correct is the topic of most
discussions in the genetics field. Beginning with the moral argument, one must understand
reproductive freedom. Most cloning activists say that reproduction, or the lack there of, is a natural
freedom given to people (C). Restricting human cloning would be a violation of that right. Just as
people can choose not to reproduce using contraception, abortion, or abstinence, people should be
allowed to use all means possible within their ability to reproduce, such as through cloning and in
vitro fertilization (C). Cloning is the application of this right specifically (C). Another benefit of
cloning is the ability to clone someone who has died to console those who are grieving over their lost
loved one or to clone the DNA of a person that was known for his of her greatness. Scientists would
be able to recreate these people in a new environment (C). A clone s parent may have come from

Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics
Nicomachean Ethics
To discover the nature of human happiness it is necessary to determine what the function of a human
being is. A person s happiness consists of fulfilling the natural function toward which they are being
directed. This natural function is something that is specific to only human beings. This function is
something that sets human beings apart from everything else in the world. Generally speaking, a
person is primarily his intellect. Where the spirit and desire are also important, it is the rational part of
the soul that should be considered the person s identity. Aristotle emphasized that eudaimonia was
constituted by rational activities that were associated with human virtue rather than human power, or
honor. According to Aristotle, the rational activity has to be indicated as pride, bravery, or friendships
that are mutually beneficial, pride and honesty among others.
An ethical virtue is a habit that you inclined toward. Virtue is not simply one isolated action but an
overall habit of acting in a certain way. To be virtuous, a person must knowingly and deliberately be

ground. If Dally hadn t died, some parts of the story could have changed, and some aspects of the
story could have stayed the same. Dally is a criminal who did many bad things, and had gone to jail
many times. Dally has been involved in many gang related crimes. He lied, he cheated, and he stole.
He also went to rodeos and rumbles. He even jumped people. Dally lived a life of crime and didn t
take any actions to turn his life around, he just kept doing the wrong thing. And after Johnny dies,
Dally has the police kill him. He does this by pulling a gun so that the police will shoot at him; and
they do. He died before he hit the floor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Dally wasn t killed, Pony could have told Dally what Johnny had said to him. This could also make
Dally feel better about Johnny s death. If Dally didn t die, he and Pony could both help each other get
over Johnny s death a bit faster. This would make Ponyboy happier by the end of the book. Ponyboy
may not make the promise to Darry to stop going to rumbles. With Dally still being around, Pony may
still go to rumbles, and Darry may not feel the need to ask Pony to stop. Dally could have also realized
that his life wasn t going in a good direction, and he could have turned it around and been an overall

Since the beginning of time, man has been defined as a...
Since the beginning of time, man has been defined as a carnivore devouring all meets for their
cultural, religious and everyday lifestyles. But now, people are starting to realize that eating meat is
also harmful to the environment and our health. It has been said that becoming a vegetarian would
help prevent cruelty to animals and reduce the impact on the environment. An environmental scientist
named Thomas Robbins said we can eliminate world hunger out of society if people were to maintain
a vegetarian diet. Producing and manufacturing beef tend to leave our environment to suffer from air
and water pollution. Animals tend to take up a lot of resources from farms and countryside s such as
water, top soil, and fossil fuels. As our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, switching to a vegetarian diet or just reducing amount of meat intake would vastly help to
conserve water in the future.
Other necessity s that society takes for granted that is suffering from a meat eating diet is water and
air. Have you ever wondered where all the waste from cows and other farm animals go? You might
think that it goes to help grow crops, which is true but much of the waste ends up contaminating water
tables and nearby rivers. Also animal waste is also held accountable for an estimated 15 percent of the
world s greenhouse gases, and that number is expected to rise 60 percent by 2030. You would think
most greenhouse gasses come from cars not farm animals, but you are wrong! Many farms today that
produce livestock use pesticides and other toxic materials to help eliminate bugs and other harmful
specimens. But some of these solutions tend to have an effect on humans and end up hurting the
nearby environment. As society steps into the future people need to realize that raising livestock could
threaten our everyday needs.
As the future of natural resources start to deplete, people need to start understanding eating meats does
not only affect the animal but if affects you as well. It is going to take an extensive effort for our
American culture to alter our eating habits and accept change into our daily lives. If humans were to
stop consuming meat, much livestock would decrees in farms, and many of our natural resources

The Importance Of Long Distance Relationships
Everyone has different ideas of what a long distance relationship is; to some it may mean being on
opposite sides of a state, country, or even the world. It seems that as the miles between two partners
increases the strain on their relationship and communication increases as well. In recent years the
number of long distance relationships have experienced a steady increase, focusing mostly around
relationships between college aged partners. According to the McKinnel s Paradigm (1994) as
mentioned in Extended Communication Efforts Involved With College Long Distance Relationships ,
nearly one third of students in college or universities are involved in some form of a relationship
involving distance defined by a 50 mile radius (Firmin, Firmin, Merical, 2013). College aged partners
are not the only ones that interact with the struggles of a long distance relationship; many military and
immigrant partnerships also face the strain of finding fulfilling modes of communication.
Communication is one of the foundational building blocks of any relationship. When distance is
factored into the communicative properties of a relationship, the relationship tends to suffer. As time
and technology have advanced, this communicative downfall has become more manageable for any
type of relationship.
Katheryn C. Maguire and Terry A. Kinney explore the ideas of satisfaction across long distance vs.
proximal relationships as well as concepts surrounding stressors and the influence distance can

Take A Closer Look At The States Where Tornadoes Are Formed
1) Today students we are going to look closer at tornadoes and where they are formed. Who will tell
me how tornadoes are formed that we learned yesterday? answer: tornadoes are formed by a cold front
coming from Canada pushing into a warm front from the gulf of Mexico. The cold air pushes the
warm air up in a spiral causing a tornado to form. Ask where do you think tornadoes form the most?
accept answers of all kind and ask the students to explain their thinking by asking why. Call on a few
students. Well, we are going to find out where they form today. Pass out the graph papers and the chart
of tornado numbers to all of the students.
2) We are going to create a bar graph to take a closer look at the states where tornadoes have formed.
When we are creating a graph what is the first thing we need to do? create a title. What is the second
thing we do? create our labels. What do we label the side and the bottom of the graph? Number of
tornadoes on the side and name of states on the bottom. What is next? then, you fill in the numbers on
the side with the state names going across the bottom. Which state should we graph first? graph seven
of the states calling on the students to decide. Make sure the students pick a state with a higher
number and a state with a lower number. The students will be coming up to the board and coloring in
the correct numbers on the elmo while the teacher walks around to make sure everyone is following

Music from All over the World Presents a Range of Musical...
Music from all over the world presents a range of musical theories. Some of these are documented in
writing whilst others are transmitted orally. Discuss and give examples with reference to both Western
and non Western music.
Music Theory can be understood as chiefly the study of the structure of music. With the idea of both
written and oral notation, it may be understood through recognized systems of indication, and used as
systems of memorizing and transmitting the theories themselves. Western music theory is significant
for its quantity and range whilst those of non Western traditions are also notable in possessing major
works of theoretical oration and literature.
Melodies for texts of the liturgy of the early Western Church were ... Show more content on

Another method that was used in enriching a melody was by doubling it through the use of parallel
consonant intervals. This practice was already employed in the ninth century treatises Musica
enchiriadis and Scolica enchiriadis , and the term organum was adopted for several styles of
polyphony illustrating two or more voices singing different notes in pleasing combinations according
to the set system. The various styles of organum such as parallel organum, mixed parallel and oblique
organum, and free organum illustrated in Musica enchiriadis were ways for singers to embellish chant
in performance based on given rules for developing added voices from the chant. Guido of Arezzo
described organum in his Micrologus , allowing a range of choices that could result in a variety of
organal voices merging oblique and parallel motion. In most cases, these organal voices were
composed orally, either improvised by a soloist or rehearsed beforehand.
Evidence for such oral composition can be seen in the Winchester Troper ; a manuscript of tropes and
other liturgical music from an English monastery in Winchester. It contains 174 organa where only the
organal voices are notated in neumes which do not indicate exact pitches but serve as a reminder for a
singer who already knows the music. This strongly suggests that the organal voices were composed
and transmitted orally and were written down as an aid to memory.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Essay
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or crib death is an abrupt and inexplicable death of an
apparently healthy infant. Most of the cases involve infants from ages 1 12 months, and the event
occurs during the night. Various theories have been postulated from research results but without
consistency of the etiology. Since the death is sudden, prior diagnostic criteria or patterns are not
available for correlation, although some near miss infants have been followed. A number of
possibilities have been documented in current literature, to include beta endorphin changes, abnormal
temperature regulation, pineal abnormalities, carotid body irregularities, lead poisoning, elevated fetal
hemoglobin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corresponding upper motor neuron innervation for the aforementioned motor component are also
involved. The second and third parts encompass the mechanoreceptor system, which responds to
stretch and irritants to regulate the rate and volume of respiration, and the chemoreceptor system.
In the motor part of the anatomical structure, Quattrochi et. al., 1985, studied the effects of brainstem
immaturity; specifically, spine density in specific brainstem regions. Significant differences in spine
density were seen between the n. ambiguous, n. solitaries, and reticular/non reticular formation areas
within the SIDS brainstem. This suggests that this asynchronous structural development could exert
significant effects on integrative neuronal activity and result in a functional imbalance between
brainstem regions concerned with the automatic control of respiration. Evidence further suggests that
inherent stress placed upon an immature sleep respiratory system during post natal development, due
to upper respiratory infections, periods of apnea, or intrinsic maturation of sleep states, could
precipitate a sudden respiratory crisis during sleep in a vulnerable infant unable to modulate a
successful adaptation to such stresses.
Another focus of research is the changes of the carotid bodies of SID victims. Cole et. al., 1979, from
the University of Connecticut, using light and electron microscopy, observed the changes of carotid

Sterilize Mexican American Women
In California, the state with a eugenic programs so intense that it even inspired the sterilization
programs in Nazi Germany, the racist controlling image of the reckless breeder was even more
pronounced. The Eugenics program of California is reported to have been responsible for 20,000
eugenic sterilizations taking place in state institutions, a staggering number in comparison to the total
recorded eugenic sterilizations in the United states which is reported to be 60,000 including
California. Mexican American women were possibly one of the greatest targets of California s
Eugenics program which described Mexican Americans as the states foremost racial problem (Lira
and Stern 15). A 1930 California population census found Mexican Americans ... Show more content

This portrayal of African American women has led to direct mistreat and an encroachment upon their
reproductive rights but subjecting countless African American women to forced sterilizations. During
this time, well known biologist Garret Hardin popularized the idea that receiving government
assistance gave the government ability to sterilize African American women. Harding argued
supporting children gave the government the right to strip their parents of the capacity to produce
more. (Roberts 89). This belief ignited a wave of forced sterilizations across the United states. Women
such as Dorothy Waters directly felt the consequences of the Welfare Queen image. During her last
visit prior to the delivery of child Waters was told by her doctor she had consent to a sterilization
operation before he would deliver her baby, saying Listen here, young lady, this is my tax money
paying for this baby and Im tired of paying for illegitimate children. If you don t want this sterilization
find another doctor (Roberts 92). Dorothy Roberts in Killing the Black Body argues that these
sterilizations took place because doctors who

Edgar Degas s Works Of Art
In Edgar Degas s life females were featured in more than 1/3 of his art works. Did Degas treat his
female subjects in his works of art, including a pastel on paper and paintings differently because of
their status in society? The paintings, pastel on paper; which will be mainly used to compare this, will
be The Portrait of a family (The Bellelli Family), Woman Bathing (from 1884) and Portrait of Mary
Cassatt Seated, Holding Cards. These works of art; and the series they belonged to have many
similarities, but they also have their differences too. However; Degas works of art can be compared to
one of his fellow artists of his day, for example, Henri de Toulouse Lautrec s Woman at her Toilet,

Zeffirelli And Hamlet Comparative Essay
When examining Kenneth Branagh s (1996) and Franco Zeffirelli s (1990) film of Hamlet both
directors interpret William Shakespeare s work quite differently. Both films excel in different aspects
demonstrating strengths and weaknesses on either side. Branagh explores Hamlet as a vengeful
character somewhat more as Shakespeare had intended. Zeffirelli emphasizes the dialogue in the film
using the tone rather than developing the character based on hatred. However despite the films
differences they both effectively capture the overall essence of indecision leading to personal tragedy.
Hamlet s inability to take decisive action ultimately results in many of the characters dying, including
himself. Scenes such as Hamlet s To be or Not to be soliloquy in Act III, Scene I; the dueling scene
between Hamlet and Laertes in Act V, Scene II; and the bedroom ... Show more content on

By looking in the mirror, he uses it as a self confidence method to reassure himself about his plan of
revenge. Branagh s continuous efforts remain constant throughout the movie where his anger and
revenge get the better of him. His soliloquy the anger that Hamlet has towards his father s murder.
Branagh continuously illustrates his discontent for his mother and uncle. Nonetheless, Zeffirelli sets
the scene with Hamlet played by Mel Gibson surrounded by corpses, ideal for the thought of suicide.
Even so this appears to be the most sane depiction of Hamlet, as he doesn t truly seem to be
contemplating suicide. Gibson begins his soliloquy already aware of the fact that he has no intention
of murdering himself. Instead, he laments his belief that suicide is not a choice. Gibson places less
importance on the opening line, allowing the viewer to concentrate on the significance of the soliloquy
in a way of making it look like a man just thinking to

  • 2. Duality In Cannery Row Cannery Row: A Literary Excavation on Duality Cannery Row is a town located in Monterey, California. Despite being small, dirty and crowded, it is a well functioned town and is home to people from different walks of life. In the novel s prologue, John Steinbeck wrote the following: Its inhabitants are, as one man once said, whores, pimps, gamblers, and sons of bitches by which he meant Everybody and [have] the man looked through another peephole he might have said: Saints and angels and martyrs and holy men, and he would have meant the same thing (Steinbeck 1). He basically comments that the difference in viewpoints given the same event results from the power of perspective and duality observed in people. One might see Cannery Row as a low down place while the others might see Cannery Row as a lively, vigorous town. One would see a character s actions disputable while the others would see their behaviors admirable. The viewpoints of the readers and the way characters behave at various times explain the fact that Cannery Row and its inhabitants possess qualities crossing good and evil. Cannery Row begins with the character Lee Chong, a small grocery owner that supplies the town. Lee was depicted as a kind and generous man, and his good nature was reflected through his appearance and personality. Steinbeck states that [his] mouth was full and benevolent and the flash of gold when he smiled was rich and warm (Steinbeck 7). This simple passage gives us a clear first ... Marriage in The Ceiling by Kevin Brockmeier In today s society, the notion and belief of growing old, getting married, having kids, and a maintaining of a happy family, seems to be a common value among most people. In Kevin Brockmeier s short story, The Ceiling, Brockmeier implies that marriage is not necessary in our society. In fact, Brockmeier criticizes the belief of marriage in his literary work. Brockmeier reveals that marriage usually leads to or ends in disaster, specifically, all marriages are doomed to fail from the start. Throughout the story, the male protagonist, the husband, becomes more and more separated from his wife. As the tension increases between the protagonist and his wife, Brockmeier symbolizes a failing marriage between the husband and wife as he depicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The city lights were burning, and Joshua was sleeping in his room (Brockmeier 94). In society and in most modern cultures throughout the world, the aspect of city lights and brightly lit stars, gives off the sense of love and intimacy. However, the bright lights and stars, did not give off a sense of love and intimacy. Instead, the narrator describes the couple mentally broken and distraught as they sat in silence pondering about their problems. They sat together, but respected each other s stillness as they wrapped their own silence. Although right next to each other, they were both in their own worlds and not sharing their thoughts and emotions. This scene is a significant indication of understanding the beginnings of their skewed relationship. Brockmeier shows Melissa as someone who ceases to exist. Throughout the short story, Melissa is limited in dialogue, and the few instances when she speaks, it seems as if Melissa is hiding and concealing her genuine thoughts. The night of her son s birthday, the narrator realizes that he is faced with a distressed wife as she reveals that her, life is a mess (Brockmeier, 94). • 5. National Security Requires a Clear Acknowledgement of the... Introduction To succeed, we must face the world as it is (Obama, 2010, p.1). Globalization has resulted in interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole possessor and arbiter of influence. The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on our national security. Brief History of Ukraine An independent country embroiled in civil war, Ukraine fell prey to attack from Soviet forces in 1921. The acquisition of the eastern two thirds of the state by Russia was considered crucial...to the formation of the Soviet Union (Conant, 2014). Over the next two decades, ... • 6. San Andreas Fault Earth Earthquake 1906 San Andreas Fault Earth Quake: A Catalyst to Scientific Understanding In 1906 a geological event occurred that has impacted not only the United States, but also the global scientific community. The 1906 San Andreas earthquake devastated thousands of people and left parts of California in shambles for nearly 300 miles (Galvin). People were capable of feeling the seismic activity as far north as Oregon, southern California, and reports of vibrations were even felt in Nevada. This paper will discuss what exactly happened on April 18, 1906, why the earthquake occurred, why the earthquake has historical significance, and how similar earthquakes impact the environment and people. Finally, this paper will conclude with a discussion on how information obtained from the San Andreas earthquake helped to educate scientist about the earthquake and future earthquakes. 1906 marked six years after the turn of the century where the world was experiencing technological breakthroughs throughout all disciplines of science. Earthquakes, up until that time were a phenomenon that many didn t know much about. Scientists didn t know the causes and hadn t experienced an event as drastic as the earthquake caused by the San Andreas fault s shifting. The severity of the earthquake is recognized in history due to the human toll which left nearly a thousand dead. The new virtual globe has leaded the GIS industry into a new ear and changes the situation of GIS from professional use to mass entertainment. 4. Should ESRI explicitly target the new GIS customer (mainstream, nonprofessional, low end)? If so, what organizational changes might this require? a) Personally, I think due to the great market potential, ESRI should target this group of internet users as further customer. The internet users among the world increase sharply as the rapid popularity of PC and internet, thus, the great potential of the mass market can not been ignored, otherwise, the market share of professional software will be reduced as the development of competitors. b) Organization Changes. Many articles have been written about the pursuit of happiness and how one can attain it. With an assortment of articles over the topic, it is only natural for many different views and ideas to be expressed by the numerous authors. Despite the many differences of opinions and beliefs of many authors, they all agree that happiness comes from helping others, living to a person s own values, and knowing what the true definition of happiness is. Flora, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, some of those great emotions will fade away, and some will help happiness be consistent. In The Pursuit of Happiness and Very Happy People, there are similar points supporting the theory that happiness comes from helping others. Once again, there are reliable resources to back these claims, including another article, Just For the Joy of it. This article was written by Vicki Zakrzewski to address the topic of altruism. Altruism is a natural part of all of us, states Zakrzewski as she talks about the practice of selfless concern for others (Zakrezewski 22). Flora shows her full support of Zakrzewski s statement when she encourages the reader to perform acts of kindness for others on a regular basis to lift your mood in the moment and over time (Flora 69). Diener and Seligman s results showed that the very happy people had good social relationships. Good social relationships are formed on selflessness and sacrifice, further proving that altruism is a large factor in happiness. Greeks believed in the immortality of the soul, but did not believe in the bodily resurrection. Corinthian church members who were affected by this Greek idea had a tendency to not believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus. In response, Paul proved the validity of the Resurrection by presenting authoritative evidence of the Old Testaments and the evidence of witnesses to the bodily resurrection of Jesus. The Resurrection did not happen in the corner secretly, but it was the historical fact that many people witnessed at the same time. Thus, many people saw the resurrected Jesus as the spiritual body. As the country s leading brick and mortar bookseller, Barnes Noble (B N) needs to transform its super store appearance and atmosphere instead of cutting into markets with well established competition, such as ebooks and campus bookstores. Along with the rising trend of the buy local movement, people prefer the atmosphere of a local bookstore to that of a large retailer, and if B N wants to avoid Borders fate, we have to adopt the look and feel of a more community connected, local store. The Situation Barnes Noble is in trouble. Liberal rebel leader Juan Álvarez became the provisional president of Mexico. The 1855 takeover of the government by the liberals began a period known as La Reforma, in which liberal leaders sought to reduce the power of the church and the military in Mexican politics and society. Later that year Ignacio Comonfort, a liberal who sought a more gradual pace of reform, replaced President Álvarez. In 1857 the liberals enacted a new constitution, which reestablished a federal form of government. These are only a few samples of the dialog talked between kids who play games such as like Call of Duty or Halo . In today s age, kids frequently boast about the quantity of players they figured out how to kill while playing these video games. Two decades ago, this would not be the typical waste of time of an eleven year old, yet now kids are seeing this kind of brutal movement as simply one more approach to take a break on a Saturday morning. Since the video game market is blasting at this moment because of progressive gaming systems like the Wii, Playstation, and Xbox, this issue is turning out to be more serious; parents should be mindful of and strongly advised about the reasons why violent video games could hurt their children. Despite the fact that the violence in these video games is fictional, the essential ideas driving the savagery have been demonstrated to prompt more aggressive behavior in developing children. Violent video games instruct youngsters that brutality is acceptable and fun at the same time, have been demonstrated to prompt forceful practices in kids, furthermore desensitize kids. The Problem Of World Hunger Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because of rampant starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on various media. World Hunger is one of the main problems that a large portion of the global population faces today. Hunger varies with severity but in this case it is the want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a problem that has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is poverty as poverty always has led to people going without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in third world nations and developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. Whether a country is rich or poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing with poverty and hunger. Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are young children. Hunger is a very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied. As a matter of fact, people all over the world mainly concentrated in developing countries die because of hunger and starvation on a daily basis. In the land of Yamato, the stronger the samurai was and the more threatening he looked, the more likely he would be hired. This is also true for the literature produced during the early period of Japan. Authors exaggerated the image of a samurai in this time period to make them seem more honorable and masculine. In reality, they were farmers, artisans, and common folk. It was not until after the Genpei war that samurai began to become a integral part of society. At first they were hired mercenaries, then a hired army, and then the warriors made known by writers standards, such as seen in the Tale of the Heike. Now in the twenty first century, a new group which knows no color and/or gender are verbally attacked for such ideas. This community is the homosexual community. Although there is more of a tolerance of homosexual citizens, in general they are still discriminated because often times one is not willing to accept a different lifestyle but rather practice ignorance to the situation. Another way that such a just world is possible is if one refuses to be ignorant and believes in stereotypes. As human beings, we are called to love one another and respect another as well as opinions and lifestyle and yet it is often difficult to do such a thing. • 23. Grass Root Innovation Essay This research aims at bridging important gaps in the way one conceptualizes the evolution of innovations in the informal sector, by means of formally untrained minds, that have the potential for Grass Root Innovations (GRIs). It also addresses important gaps in meeting needs of disadvantaged communities, which formal systems like Science and Technology (S T) have not been able to address so far, in a manner that is cost effective and affordable. While GRIs cannot provide solutions to all problems, they can indeed provide solutions for some of them. The conceptual basis, or the heuristics, underlying these innovations, can sometimes extend the frontiers of science, or improve efficiency in larger mainstream technological systems, in addition to meeting the local needs. But, incentives for developing technologies, which will have limited diffusion because of socio ecological conditions, are difficult to institutionalize. The result being that such niches remain unserved. However, if difficult regions, with poor market and bureaucratic infrastructure, have to remain outside developmental impulses, then social harmony is unlikely to be maintained. Human cloning proposes many arguments for each opposing side and can greatly impact the modern world based upon the research obtained through it. Most cloning activists say that reproduction, or the lack there of, is a natural freedom given to people (C). Restricting human cloning would be a violation of that right. Just as people can choose not to reproduce using contraception, abortion, or abstinence, people should be allowed to use all means possible within their ability to reproduce, such as through cloning and in vitro fertilization (C). A numerous amount of people believe that the collision that occurred on April 15, 1912 was The Titanic s sister ship The Olympic, and that the wreckage was premeditated and was used to commit insurance fraud. • 40. Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics Nicomachean Ethics To discover the nature of human happiness it is necessary to determine what the function of a human being is. A person s happiness consists of fulfilling the natural function toward which they are being directed. This natural function is something that is specific to only human beings. This function is something that sets human beings apart from everything else in the world. Generally speaking, a person is primarily his intellect. Where the spirit and desire are also important, it is the rational part of the soul that should be considered the person s identity. Aristotle emphasized that eudaimonia was constituted by rational activities that were associated with human virtue rather than human power, or honor. According to Aristotle, the rational activity has to be indicated as pride, bravery, or friendships that are mutually beneficial, pride and honesty among others. Since the beginning of time, man has been defined as a carnivore devouring all meets for their cultural, religious and everyday lifestyles. But now, people are starting to realize that eating meat is also harmful to the environment and our health. It has been said that becoming a vegetarian would help prevent cruelty to animals and reduce the impact on the environment. An environmental scientist named Thomas Robbins said we can eliminate world hunger out of society if people were to maintain a vegetarian diet. Other necessity s that society takes for granted that is suffering from a meat eating diet is water and air. Have you ever wondered where all the waste from cows and other farm animals go? You might think that it goes to help grow crops, which is true but much of the waste ends up contaminating water tables and nearby rivers. Also animal waste is also held accountable for an estimated 15 percent of the world s greenhouse gases, and that number is expected to rise 60 percent by 2030. You would think most greenhouse gasses come from cars not farm animals, but you are wrong! Many farms today that produce livestock use pesticides and other toxic materials to help eliminate bugs and other harmful specimens. But some of these solutions tend to have an effect on humans and end up hurting the nearby environment. As society steps into the future people need to realize that raising livestock could threaten our everyday needs. As the future of natural resources start to deplete, people need to start understanding eating meats does not only affect the animal but if affects you as well. • 43. The Importance Of Long Distance Relationships Everyone has different ideas of what a long distance relationship is; to some it may mean being on opposite sides of a state, country, or even the world. It seems that as the miles between two partners increases the strain on their relationship and communication increases as well. In recent years the number of long distance relationships have experienced a steady increase, focusing mostly around relationships between college aged partners. According to the McKinnel s Paradigm (1994) as mentioned in Extended Communication Efforts Involved With College Long Distance Relationships , nearly one third of students in college or universities are involved in some form of a relationship involving distance defined by a 50 mile radius (Firmin, Firmin, Merical, 2013). College aged partners are not the only ones that interact with the struggles of a long distance relationship; many military and immigrant partnerships also face the strain of finding fulfilling modes of communication. Communication is one of the foundational building blocks of any relationship. When distance is factored into the communicative properties of a relationship, the relationship tends to suffer. As time and technology have advanced, this communicative downfall has become more manageable for any type of relationship. Katheryn C. Maguire and Terry A. Kinney explore the ideas of satisfaction across long distance vs. proximal relationships as well as concepts surrounding stressors and the influence distance can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who will tell me how tornadoes are formed that we learned yesterday? answer: tornadoes are formed by a cold front coming from Canada pushing into a warm front from the gulf of Mexico. The cold air pushes the warm air up in a spiral causing a tornado to form. Ask where do you think tornadoes form the most? accept answers of all kind and ask the students to explain their thinking by asking why. Call on a few students. Well, we are going to find out where they form today. Pass out the graph papers and the chart of tornado numbers to all of the students. 2) We are going to create a bar graph to take a closer look at the states where tornadoes have formed. Music Theory can be understood as chiefly the study of the structure of music. With the idea of both written and oral notation, it may be understood through recognized systems of indication, and used as systems of memorizing and transmitting the theories themselves. Another method that was used in enriching a melody was by doubling it through the use of parallel consonant intervals. This practice was already employed in the ninth century treatises Musica enchiriadis and Scolica enchiriadis , and the term organum was adopted for several styles of polyphony illustrating two or more voices singing different notes in pleasing combinations according to the set system. The various styles of organum such as parallel organum, mixed parallel and oblique organum, and free organum illustrated in Musica enchiriadis were ways for singers to embellish chant in performance based on given rules for developing added voices from the chant. Guido of Arezzo described organum in his Micrologus , allowing a range of choices that could result in a variety of organal voices merging oblique and parallel motion. In most cases, these organal voices were composed orally, either improvised by a soloist or rehearsed beforehand. Evidence for such oral composition can be seen in the Winchester Troper ; a manuscript of tropes and other liturgical music from an English monastery in Winchester. It contains 174 organa where only the organal voices are notated in neumes which do not indicate exact pitches but serve as a reminder for a singer who already knows the music. This strongly suggests that the organal voices were composed and transmitted orally and were written down as an aid to memory. The earliest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Essay Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or crib death is an abrupt and inexplicable death of an apparently healthy infant. Most of the cases involve infants from ages 1 12 months, and the event occurs during the night. Various theories have been postulated from research results but without consistency of the etiology. Since the death is sudden, prior diagnostic criteria or patterns are not available for correlation, although some near miss infants have been followed. A number of possibilities have been documented in current literature, to include beta endorphin changes, abnormal temperature regulation, pineal abnormalities, carotid body irregularities, lead poisoning, elevated fetal hemoglobin, ... The second and third parts encompass the mechanoreceptor system, which responds to stretch and irritants to regulate the rate and volume of respiration, and the chemoreceptor system. In the motor part of the anatomical structure, Quattrochi et. al., 1985, studied the effects of brainstem immaturity; specifically, spine density in specific brainstem regions. Significant differences in spine density were seen between the n. ambiguous, n. solitaries, and reticular/non reticular formation areas within the SIDS brainstem. This suggests that this asynchronous structural development could exert significant effects on integrative neuronal activity and result in a functional imbalance between brainstem regions concerned with the automatic control of respiration. Evidence further suggests that inherent stress placed upon an immature sleep respiratory system during post natal development, due to upper respiratory infections, periods of apnea, or intrinsic maturation of sleep states, could precipitate a sudden respiratory crisis during sleep in a vulnerable infant unable to modulate a successful adaptation to such stresses. Another focus of research is the changes of the carotid bodies of SID victims. Zeffirelli emphasizes the dialogue in the film using the tone rather than developing the character based on hatred. However despite the films differences they both effectively capture the overall essence of indecision leading to personal tragedy.
