Malaria Is A Disease That Affects The World s Poorest
CUNY Nobel Science Challenge Malaria is a disease that affects nearly 600 million people and causes
more than a million deaths a year, the most coming from children under five. This disease is regularly
found in more than 100 countries around the world and affects 40% of the world s population. It is
most commonly transmitted by an infected Anopheles mosquito. The most deadly form of malaria is
known as Plasmodium falciparum because almost all deaths from malaria are caused by this specific
one. Some of the symptoms that are affiliated with this strand of malaria are the destruction of red
blood cells along with complications with the kidneys, lungs, and brain. In more serious cases, it can
cause permanent neurological effects and even death. As the Nobel Assembly said at the
announcement of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Diseases caused by parasites have
plagued humankind for a millennium and constitute a major global health problem. In particular,
parasitic diseases affect the world s poorest populations and represent a huge barrier to improving
human health and wellbeing . Youyou Tu, one of the winners of the prize, discovered Artemisinin, a
drug that has significantly reduced the mortality rates for patients suffering from malaria by killing the
malaria parasites an early stage of their development. The story on the creation of the drug
Artemisinin is an interesting one. During the Chinese Cultural Revolution, scientist trained in the West

Analysis Of The Film Selma
Equality and Justice false promises a nation was created to protect. The historical drama, Selma
(2014), directed by Ava DuVernay, depicts some of the struggles African Americans faced in the
pursuit of equality and justice during the mid 1950 s to 1960 s, and the role Martin Luther King Jr.
played in his attempt to overcome such inequalities. Even before its release, Selma received backlash
from critics who claimed it falsely depicted Lyndon B. Johnson at odds with Martin Luther King Jr,
and alleged that the murder of the four girls at the Birmingham Church occurred in September 1963,
rather than at the end of 1964, which the film suggests. Regardless of such claims, the film, Selma,
does depict a historical event set forth by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965. During this time period,
racial segregation was prominent, especially in the southern states. The government justified such
segregation based on the 14th Amendment s wording of separate but equal . However, many African
Americans were dissatisfied and demanded true equality. It was not until the mid 1960 s, after Martin
Luther King Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, that racial tension began to decline. Although
Martin Luther King Jr. s role was invaluable in the Civil Rights Movement and required great courage,
Selma aims to portray a complex side of King, mixing his bravery and determination with self doubts
and internal conflicts in his pursuit of justice and equality. To stand up for one s principles in

The Influence of Organizational Culture on Organizational...
Rizescu, M. (2011). Orgainzational Culture Influences on the Organization s Functionality. Revista
Academie ForTelor Terestre. 1( 61): 75 82. Globalization has brought the world closer in
communication, economics, politics, and especially business. The Internet and technological
improvements have allowed instantaneous communication almost anywhere, and even poor women in
India are using Smartphones to manage their banking portfolios. The idea of globalism continues to
break down cultural barriers. As this continues it will be essential for organizations to not only
understand, but embrace cultural differences and styles (Trebing and Estabrooks, 2005). Clearly, the
changing demands of global stakeholders require new ways of approaching divergent customer bases.
There are differences in style, skill, education and attitude in every organization now accentuated
when we think of the multi national organization. Correctly managed, this diversity can be a huge
bonus to the organization. Organizations are far more effective once they understand and use diversity
within their strategic and tactical planning process. Also, the new paradigm for global management
includes creating and maintaining a diverse work environment in which cultural diversity is encourage
and celebrated, rather than simply acknowledged (We need to identify and understand how our
differences impact our relationships with other employees and customers. We also must create and
maintain an inclusive work

The Planet, And Jovian Planets In The Solar System
The term planet is originated from the ancient Greek word planetes which translates to wanderer. This
is a fitting characterisation as the planets in our Solar System and others wander or orbit around
central point a star. A planet is a celestial body which moves in an elliptical orbit around a star. Our
Solar System which is located in the outer arms of the spiral galaxy, the Milky Way, has a unique and
diverse composition. The Solar System consists of our star, the Sun, eight planets, and the dwarf
planet, Pluto. The diverseness of our solar system is constituted to the planets and their structure. The
planets are classified as either terrestrial or Jovian planets, however, these classifications do not apply
to Pluto as it is neither. terrestrial planets are the four planets located closest to the Sun. The root cause
for Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars to be categorized as terrestrial planets, is that they are all similar
in composition. Due to the rest of the planets being Earth like, they gained their name from the Latin
word terra meaning land or Earth. The Jovian planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are the
four planets furthest from the Sun. The three most outer planets are categorized as Jovian planets due
to their Jupiter like composition. In contrast to the terrestrial planets, the Jovian planets differ greatly
in general structure, size and density due to their elemental composition.
A terrestrial planet is a planet that is composed primarily of

The Millionaire Next Door
The book of The Millionaire Next Door is written by Thomas Stanley and William Danko, and it uses
lots of case studies and statistic data to tell us how the actual millionaires live in the society and how
can normal people become millionaires. The book shows a unique insight of millionaires and base on
the authors research in last twenty years, thus the result is convincing. The authors try to tell us two
things: wealth is what you accumulate but not what you spend; and there are some ways you can use
to get wealth. For me, this book is interesting and useful. In the first part, the book talks about
prototypical millionaires live next door and starts with describing an odd situation: Some people live
in expensive neighborhood and drive luxurious cars but with less income, while some people do not
live in upscale neighborhoods but accumulate a lot of wealth. The later ones are the true millionaires.
The authors then talk about seven common characteristics about these millionaires: they live below
their means; they allocate their time and money efficiently; they believe that financial independence is
more important than displaying high social status; their parents did not provide economic outpatient
care; their adult children are economically self sufficient; they are proficient in targeting market
opportunities; they chose the right occupation. ( Stanley,T and Danko,W, 1996:3) These denominators
are described repeatly throughout the book and help people know how to

Argumentative Speech About Fraternities
What comes into your mind when you hear the word fraternity ? If you will be given the chance to
join such would you choose to pledge? or not not to pledge? Why yes and why not? Apparently,
everyone have their own perspective when it comes to fraternities. However, originally, fraternities or
fraternal organizations were meant to be an organized society of men associated together in an
environment of companionship and brotherhood. They must be dedicated to the intellectual, physical,
moral, religious, and social development of its members. There are many attributes that fraternities
may or may not have, depending on their structure and purpose. Fraternities can have differing
degrees of secrecy, some form of initiation or ceremony marking admission, formal codes of behavior,
disciplinary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But sometimes, the real essence of having fraternities is being repudiated because of some immoral
acts done within the organization. In the Philippines, the existence of fraternities are not prohibited. In
fact, some are existing as legal organizations carrying the purpose of being an asset within the
community. But in a setting like this in our country where powerful people abuses those who are not
in position to make their stands, where the real meaning of brotherhood is disregarded, I believe that
this is not an appropriate country to dwell with fraternities. The government should abolish fraternities
for they take away the significance of education and morality in the Philippines. It is argued that the
establishments of fraternities bring a very good sense of brotherhood and companionship that leads to
a well organized community. Fraternities started existing wayback because of the strong desire of
people in the Middles Ages to show companionship. Undeniably, they are really intended for good
purposes and until now the arguments between the pros and cons of such organizations exist. First are

A Study On Smoke Management System
1 LITERATURE REVIEW 1.1 Introduction Buildings with atrium are big challenge for smoke
ventilation system, because if fire is initiated in atrium by any different causes at any level of atrium
where there is amount of fuel to maintain steady heat release rate, there is probability that the fire will
be maintained. Study fire development, smoke layer, temperature distribution and carbon monoxide
concentration is complicated and unstable. Therefore, computational fluid dynamics is useful tool to
analyze smoke management system. FDS (Fire Dynamic Simulator) is frequently used tool in such
type of studies.[1,2]. This chapter presents an overview on the previous work in the field of smoke
management system in atrium. First, study the effect of atrium height and location of exhaust fans on
the smoke movement in atrium buildings Many research centers conduct studies on smoke
management system. The Canadian Foundation for Innovation, (CFI) has approved a proposal by
Carleton University for the development of a unique $10 million, full scale fire research facility. CFI s
contribution to this project is $4.0 million. Other contributing partners include the National Research
Council, the Ottawa Fire Services and the Toronto Transit Commission. Funding is also expected from
the Ontario Innovation Trust. The facility will be used to conduct research to identify fire safety levels
in residential and commercial buildings, as well as transportation facilities, such as tunnels.

Abyssal Fish Essay
Abyssal fish
Abyssal fish are those fish that live below the photic zone of the ocean, below 2000 m. These fishes
must survive in extremely harsh conditions, such as hundreds of bars of pressure, small amounts of
oxygen, very little food (no photosynthesis), total darkness, and extreme cold. Examples of Species:
Lanternfish, flashlight fish, anglerfish, tripod fish, giant squid, and others.
In order to survive and reproduce, the abyssal animals developed necessary adaptation (anatomical
and behavioral) to suit the deep water environment. These include:
Coping with total darkness: Many species are blind and rely on other senses to replace peripheral
vision (e.g. smell) for finding a mate and/or avoiding predators.
Fish that are not blind may

Riordan Manufacturing Supply Chain Design
Riordan Manufacturing Supply Chain Design
Shante Moore
University of Phoenix/OPS 571
Introduction
Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturer and industry leader in the field of plastic
injection molding with locations in Georgia, Michigan, California, and their most current expansion in
2000 to Hangzhou, China. The plant located in China manufactures fans using a make to stock
operation that uses a forecasting method to determine future demand. A review of their strategic
capacity planning and lean production for their new process design and supply chain process for the
electric fans will address bottleneck and supply chain issues. Also outlined are the details of new
processes and how the benefit the company. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An issue arises when periodic an order for fans against the contracted yearly total is received
randomly and at varying quantities throughout the year. This makes it difficult for the plant to stock
materials required in the short term. Another problem is the company supplying the motors for the
fans. Their on time delivery rate is only 93%. This leads to a bottleneck in manufacturing. A solution
for these problems is to implement an effective ordering system or process. In order to improve the
7% lag time a second motor supplier could be used to fill the gap. There should be a maximum
amount of units per month, and a specified date the units are needed. For custom orders, a specific
date or deadline should be a requirement and included in the contract. Setting these specific guidelines
in the plants ordering system will improve the 7% lag time in deliveries.
Lean Production
When the bottlenecks in a process are exposed there is a strong correlation between a strategic
capacity plan and lean production. When Riordan implements a new process, lean production can be
achieved. More can be accomplished efficiently in less time due to a continuous production flow
(Kotelnikov, V., n.d.). The new ordering system will allow for all products needed to be available just
in time to begin production. Eventually, as a more specialized cross functional

GAAP Or Generally Accepted Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
GAAP or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are set by the Financial Accounting Standards
Board (FASB), an organization of accountants, financial analysts, and regulators who draw up
accounting practices to meet ongoing changes in the markets. Every time some new issue arises, the
FASB studies the problem, develops a proposed accounting procedure, and sends it for review and
comment to different users of financial statements, including corporations and analysts (Logue, n.d.).
IFRS or International Financial Reporting Standards is a set of accounting standards developed by an
independent, not for profit organization called the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).
It is also the common accounting standard used by over 110 countries around the world. GAAP is
generally used in the U.S., though the SEC Commission Chief proposed supplemental use of IFRS for
statement reporting, which was eventually quashed (Cohn, 2015). FASB is considering a new format
of globally accepted principles and reporting standards to be decided upon. It has been said that
conceptually IFRS is more of a principles based accounting standard, while GAAP is more of a rules
based accounting standard (Nguyen, 2010). There are both advantages and disadvantages to switching
to IFRS from GAAP. Some advantages are: comparisons to foreign companies will be that much
easier, and raising capital through foreign nations will be made easier because investors are used to

The Life Of Happiness And The Good Life
In this paper, I will argue that Aristotle is right when he says happiness or eudaimonia is when the
good life is a happy life, where happiness is the end goal. I will do so first by explaining how Aristotle
s eudaimonia theory found in Nicomachean Ethics is the aim of human life, a theory of happiness that
is still relevant today. Secondly I will share the key ingredients in Aristotle s recipe for happiness and
the good life. These include reason and virtues, pleasure and relationships, wealth and success. Lastly,
I will explain why I agree with Aristotle that the life of virtue fits best with the human life. That
eudaimonia is the pursuit of happiness, the goal that encompasses the totality of one s life. To start,
Aristotle wrote the Nicomachean Ethics, a collection of ten books. He starts by asking what is it that
humans are aiming at that would provide a good happy life? Aristotle s argument about the good is
also referred to as eudaimonia. The meaning of eudaimonia is generally translated to happiness . It is
the telos, final cause and goal for all living things. Aristotle refers to happiness as the highest aim of
human good and the ultimate end and purpose of human existence. In this paper, eudaimonia and
happiness will be used interchangeably. One can achieve eudaimonia and happiness by living well and
fairing well. To achieve happiness, it is to live as best a human being can live. It is not something that
can be gained or lost in a few hours like pleasurable

As a social critic, Barbara Ehrenreich is able to provide opinions about societal issues. Regardless of
her opinion, the audiences she reaches out to, take her stand point on what she writes about. In the
excerpt of a chapter in her book, Nickel and Dimed , from her a research project she conducted,
Ehrenreich vividly describes her experience as a server at a restaurant in Florida. This chapter is
specifically for the upper middle and upper classes to show that minimum wage isn t enough for
someone to be living off of. Ehrenreich reaches out to this specific audience because they aren t able

Ehrenreich reminds her readers that the minimum paying job isn t enough to provide a decent house
for herself, instead she has been living in a trailer. She reiterates that not only working conditions of
the lower class are a factor to their poverty, but living conditions for the poor aren t as pleasant as they
are for the upper middle class. She follows with another restriction that rises after a coworker of hers
spends too much time at a bar. The employee turns out to be another woman who is, another trailer
home dweller and a mother of three . She provides these details because the environment that lower
class employees live in tends to drive them to getting drunk, or even into harmful habits for
themselves and the people they surround themselves with. Ehrenreich explains this specific example
because it presents how not only one employee is effected by a wrongdoing, but all of them are.
Ehrenreich next moves on to explain that one of her coworkers was desperate enough to break into
one of the storage rooms. This coworker just so happens to be her friend who lives with a number of
other Czech dishwashers. According to Ehrenreich, he also, cannot sleep until one of them goes off for
[their] shift, leaving a vacant bed . With these living conditions, her friend must have a hard time
getting what he needs to survive. Ehrenreich uses this example to exemplify the meaning of sharing
living quarters with so many other people where supplies are scarce. The only other option the lower
class employees have to provide for themselves is usually stealing, which her friend got caught

Woyzeck Conventions
By examining what is meant by the concept of theatrical genre , how would you characterize the genre
of Woyzeck?
Today, whenever somebody is asked to think of a typical Tragedy, his or her immediate answer would
be; Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth, possibly even King Lear. This is because these plays constitute what is
conventionally known as a Tragedy. They mostly follow the conventions outlined in Aristotle s
Poetics, and have characteristics recognisable of a Tragedy, for example, the tragic hero being of
upper class or noble background, and the tragic hero s actions leading to inevitable consequences. As
Buchner s Woyzeck does not solely fit into this template, its genre can be deemed as a little confusing.
However, Woyzeck is undoubtedly a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is certainly true of Woyzeck, as Woyzeck himself does all that he can to earn money for Marie
and his child. He bears all the scientific experiments for the love of Marie, facing the humiliations of
the Doctor and the Officer, and because of this the audience regard Woyzeck as a character that is
inherently good. On finding out that Marie has had an affair, Woyzeck s world, meaningful only
through his love, breaks down, and consequently we cannot help but feel immense pity for him, even
though he does kill Marie. The most important element of a tragic drama to Aristotle was the idea of
Catharsis, and so if we are to follow Aristotle s views of tragedy, then because of these incidents
arousing pity and fear in us, then Woyzeck is undoubtedly a Tragedy. There are however some aspects
to Woyzeck that make characterizing it as a tragedy slightly difficult. Traditionally within tragedies the
tragic hero is of noble stature and has greatness, as common people did not interest Aristotle. It is
evident to the audience however, that Woyzeck is from a working class background. In Scene 6 when
Woyzeck is shaving the Officer, Woyzeck repeatedly states that he is poor, Poor, that s what we are.
You see, us common folk,

Dynamite During The Industrial Revolution
Dynamite is a very destructive tool. it could be used to make jobs easier for miners, but dynamite
could also be used in despicable ways. According to bibalex.org Nobel tried to keep his invention
secret, but failed to and the military tried to weaponize it to suit their needs. He did not like the use of
dynamite in the military, so he invented the nobel peace prize. This prize is awarded to the person who
spreads the idea of peace the most. Dynamite was invented in 1867 by Alfred Nobel. According to
livescience.com, Nobel s father was a inventor. Nobel attended school in St Petersburg and shined in
his studying. While there he gained a interest in poetry, this interest caused his father to put him in
stricter chemistry and engineering classes. If not for this Alfred Nobel could have became a poet. On
March 22nd 1866 Alfred Nobel invented dynamite. Dynamite would be used throughout the Industrial
Revolution as a tool for clearing rocks and debris for miners. It would even be used to create the
presidents faces on Mount Rushmore. According to Timetoast.com the first dynamite factory was
created on March 19 1868. These were some great ways people used dynamite, but there was also

Research Paper On Mansa Musa
Sundiata was not the only influential king of ancient Mali. Mansa Musa (1280 1337), the tenth king of
Mali and the grandson of Sundiata s half brother, made a huge impact on the Mali empire. In 1312,
Mansa Musa was elected as the emperor of Mali, becoming the civilization s first Muslim ruler.

Mansa Musa is best known for his four thousand mile pilgrimage to Mecca. Because he was so

Discuss The Effects Of Ww2 On African American Women
The postwar period starting in 1945 was a time of economic boom and a shared sense of unity in the
United States, or so it seemed. Although the unemployment rate was zero percent women and African
American workers were becoming increasingly unhappy with their roles in the American post war
economy. Employment of women in America was at an all time high reaching 19 million by 1945.
However, the traditional gender roles between men and women created tension after the war due to
women s push for opportunity outside of their typical roles at home. In the post war period, African
American workers were still feeling a sense of segregation and inequality in the workforce. They were
usually the last to be hired, especially African American women,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Ad-Hoc Network
The Ad hoc network is a collection of mobile nodes which can communicate without each other with
the help of wireless. There is no former communication infrastructure in MANETs [1]. There is no
fixed infrastructure and centralized control in MANETs therefore nodes can communicate the network
at any time. All nodes are supposed to be equal in processing power. All node can act either as a host
or as a router to direct the packet from source to destination in the network. All nodes acts as routers

wireless ad hoc networks, nodes often change their location within network. So, many dusty routes are

Teaching Against Literacy Walter Parker Analysis
In American classrooms many democratic ideals are present. Each classroom may use them in
different ways, but they are all around the school system. In each classroom visited during TE 100
democracy was alive. Each school proudly displayed a true democratic atmosphere from the large,
diverse hallways of Grand Island Senior High, the colorful, friendly rooms of Holdrege Middle
School, or the fun, interactive feel of Kenwood Elementary. In each school, students of all types were
all given amazing democratic environments to learn and grow in, and are all in the process of
becoming democratic citizens.
In the article, Teaching Against Idiocy by Walter Parker, he urges teachers to combat student s who
have a self centered attitudes. Parker advises educators, Self centeredness undermines his or her

One way this was used in all the schools was how the pledge was said in each and every classroom.
From Ms. Buerer s fourth grade classroom to Mrs. Kier s sophomore theater class. Each student was

country at a young age, and how to act in patriotic situations. An important line from the pledge that
many schools focus on is, freedom and justice for all this line alludes that every American citizen has
equal opportunities to succeed. This is an important aspect to have in the classroom. Freedom and
justice for all was evident in the blended classrooms at Grand Island Senior High. Both traditional and
special education students were in the same English class, and were given the equity to learn. The

Aol Time Warner- What Went Wrong
In January 2000, AOL announced that it would be acquiring Time Warner through a complete stock
deal to create the largest media company in the world. Not only was the merger the biggest ever in the
media industry, it was also one of the biggest in the history of the corporate world. As per the merger
agreement, AOL and Time Warner stock was converted to AOL Time Warner stock. AOL shareholders
received one share of AOL Time Warner for each AOL share owned and Time Warner shareholders
received 1.5 shares of AOL Time Warner for each Time Warner share they owned. While AOL
shareholders owned 55% of the new company, the remaining was held by Time Warner. The merger

AOL joined hands with Time Warner to create synergy between its online businesses and Warner s
media business.
Two significant factors affected the post merger company. One, the dot com burst meant adverse effect
on AOL s advertising revenues. And two, dial up subscribers decreased thereby affecting revenues and
overall profitability of AOL. A key element in the turnaround strategy should be to offer free content
on its portal. This strategy will benefit AOL in attracting more online users and advertising revenues.
When AOL began operations it soon became the leading company for pay online subscriber service,
bringing easy to use Internet service to more than 30 million users. AOL was mainly based on around
its dial up business. With customers shifting to broadband, AOL was losing subscribers rapidly. The
dial up segment though profitable, was declining in revenues having lost 2.6 million subscribers in a
period of one year. The share price of AOL Time Warner fell by 60% after the merger. The merger was
heavily criticized from all quarters.
Growth in advertising business came with AOL establishing itself as a support service rather than an
internet access provider. Seeing AOL s success Google entered into a global advertising partnership
with the AOL. Google acquired a 5% equity stake in AOL for US$ 1 billion. In broadband, to be able
to beat the competition they should be the first organization to

A Interview At An Interview
Shortly after the submission of my application, I received an email inviting me to the interview that
would be conducted in company s office in London. Overall, in my opinion, I did my best in terms of
the preparation. I researched the company s history, read about its most popular products and
familiarized myself with the recent industry and company s news (Burke and Thurgood 2007). A week
prior to the interview date I attended an interview preparation session organized by the Careers Office
which, as noted by Spears (1979), was supposed to help me feel more comfortable during the actual
interview. As a result, I had, what Bandura (1982) would call a high level of self efficacy, meaning
that I hold an opinion that I would succeed in an interview.
Turning attention to the actual interview, it was conducted face to face on company s premises and my
interviewer was a middle aged white woman. From the first seconds of the interview she had an open
body language and she maintained a good eye contact. Armstrong (2012) indicates that such behaviour
helps to establish the good rapport with the applicant and it was certainly true in my case. It was a
structured employment interview as I was asked a set of prepared questions (Levashina et al. 2014)
that explored if I possessed skills and competencies required for the job position. As the interviewer
followed the script, it led to the consistency in information received, implying more accurate selection
decision (Garcia et al. 2008).

Analysis Of Are You Somebody
The final scene of Nuala O Faolain s memoir Are You Somebody has several aspects that differ from
as well as are similar to the endings of the other Irish works we have read in class. Unique to Are You
Somebody, the memoir does not conclude with a complete resolution. She also begs for the reader s
pity, which the other authors with even worse situations do not resort to. However, her memoir also
has numerous aspects in common with the other works. Similar to Bonaparte in The Poor Mouth and
O Connor in An Only Child, O Faolain looks outward toward her future. However, similar to
McGahern All Will Be Well, she also reflects on her past. Although the authors all face different
situations, they are overall very similar in how they respond to their fate in the final scenes of their
works. Several aspects of O Faolain s memoir s ending set it apart from the other works. In contrast to
the definitive nature of the endings of the other books, the final chapter of Are You Somebody leaves
readers hanging. The memoir concludes as she spends a Christmas day without family, only being
surrounded by her dog. She reflects on her past and poses questions to herself regarding the choices
she could have made in the past. She asks, What happened? (177), and How can you persuade yourself
to accept your fortune? (178). Questioning herself like this shows that she is uncertain about her prior
decisions, present situation, and is apprehensive about her future. Another aspect of O Faolain s

Satire of the Knight in the Prologue and Knight s Tale of...
Satire. Satire is a biting literary tool, one that Geoffery Chaucer used liberally when he wrote his
Canterbury Tales. Webster s New World Dictionary says that satire is the use of ridicule, sarcasm, etc.
to attack vices, follies, etc. Using that definition, I think that all of the pilgrims in the Canterbury Tales
are satirized to some extent; some of the satirizations are more subtle than others. The Knight is one of
the pilgrims that is more subtly satirized.
Chaucer satirizes knights and chivalry in two different ways: in the prologue and in the Knight s Tale.
The first way in the prologue is with the pilgrim Knight s character. Chaucer wanted to present a
realistic knight, but he also wanted to give the Knight some very ... Show more content on

Hodges, featured in April 1995 edition of The Chaucer Review, Hodges examines the reasons behind
Chaucer s decisions on the clothing of his Knight. After examining the introduction of the Knight s
character in the General Prologue of the Canterbury Tales, Ms. Hodges said that Chaucer intended his
Knight to be the one true to life portrait of a knight of the 14th century an every knight of sorts. She
also concluded that Chaucer wanted to go against the normal chivalric ideal of a knight by presenting
a knight as he really might have been: a basically good person, but with imperfections. I disagree with
Hodges about Chaucer s intentions when characterizing the knight. I don t think the knight was meant
to be a true to life portrait of the every knight .
I think that the reason Hodges and I disagree has to do with the scope of our examination. Hodges was
mostly examining the Knight s clothing, with only references to the rest of the Knight s description in
the prologue, and only briefly mentions the Knight s Tale. I am looking at the Knight in a more
general sense, and looking at clues in the entire description and the tale.
One of the generalizations Hodges makes is that Chaucer s Knight is not romantically ideal. On this
point, we definitely agree. There haven t been many changes in peoples conceptions of the ideal
knight since the 14th century. The ideal knight is the one

The Food System Is Essential For Sustaining Human Life
The food system is essential to sustaining human life, yet it often gets overlooked. Feeding a city
comes with a lot of issues, especially feeding the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) at a
population of 414,000 (Statistics Canada, 2015). Although food is required to sustain humans, it has
not always been produced sustainably in Halifax. Food sustainability is not only concerned with the
food people consume, but rather looks at the whole system, interconnecting social, economic, and
environmental components. In Halifax, barriers to food sustainability include greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions, food waste, food corporations, and food insecurity.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions
One of the main negative externalities of the food system in HRM is the vast amount of greenhouse
gas emissions produced. Looking at this in terms of an ecological footprint, a measurement of
resource consumption and waste production, Nova Scotians use approximately 8 hectares each. This is
more than four times the sustainable global amount of 1.8 hectares per person. Furthermore, Nova
Scotians food usage accounts for about one third of the total footprint (Lowe, 2007). Hence, there are
definitely driving factors within the HRM food system that are increasing the ecological footprint.
Transporting food to accessible locations is a large problem in Halifax. Out of approximately 4,000
farms in Nova Scotia, less than 200 are based in HRM. However, due to population dynamics, Halifax
and Dartmouth

Comparison Of Evidence And Pattern Evidence
Comparison of latent fingerprints found at the crime scene with exemplar prints, comparison of bite
marks on a victim, DNA evidence, hair and fibre matching are some of the example of pattern
comparison in forensic science (Coyle, Field Wenderoth, 2009). Comparison of pattern evidence in
forensic science is to determine whether the same kind of the properties of forensic traces may have
come from a common (or related source) (Found Edmond, 2012). There are varieties of techniques in
forensic pattern evidence that make associations between physical traces. The association of one or
more traces might be helpful in the investigation of a crime that usually can support an inference

Female Role In Modern Philosophy
The era of modern philosophy, with a special canalization period during the 18th and 19th centuries,
was a time of flourishing activity in terms of philosophical importance. Whether we re speaking with
relation to Cartesianism, the moral and political philosophy of Nietzsche, or another male during the
period, their philosophical ideologies still remain present and of use in multiple presentations from
bioethics to law. Transgressing beyond the grave, the impacts of these few still conquer, but what
about the ideologies of the nameless? Continually ignored within the narrative, one primary
demographic of philosophers during the era of modern philosophy that is commonly ignored is that of
women. Although the importance of female impact on modern philosophy is quantified as minuscule,
the females of this era had achievements and impacts on the ideologies of their predecessors and
deserve recognition. Of the primary accomplishments of females within modern philosophy, three

The Impact of Technology
Technology, mainly computers and video games, have made a vast difference in our society. Many
years ago there were not very many forms of technology that existed. People often used type writers,

has become extremely popular. If an individual is not using a computer for some form on
entertainment, they are most likely using it for something along the lines of school or work.
Technology has gone from being a convenient tool to being a bad impact on society. Not only is it

of others who will argue that this statement is wrong. He also states, The real promise of online
education, experts say, is providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students
than is possible in classrooms. That enables more learning by doing, which many students find more
engaging and useful. This article is leaning more towards the idea that online education is a better
choice than classroom education. This idea could go both ways. It mostly depends on the preferred
learning style of the student. If the student learns better by reading the required learning material, then
he or she would probably agree that online courses are easier for them. However, if the student is a
more visual learner, then he or she may learn better by being in a classroom and being physically
taught. They may also agree that taking online courses make knowledge valueless. There are also
many individuals out there who will argue that video games have positive effects on children in our
society today. In an online article, James Robers shares that, The online video games that children play

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bioremediation
a better and a more cost effective option.
Bioremediation is a process which employs microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and
algae for the cleanup of the environment contaminated with pollutants. Bioremediation is of many
types, which are biostimulation, bioaugmentation, intrinsic bioremediation, phytoremediation,
bioventing, bioleaching, land farming, composting, rhizofiltration and bioreactors. Biostimulation
refers to the method where the environment acts as the stimulant and it stimulates or motivates the
microorganisms to carry out bioremediation. This stimulant is usually in the form of nutrients made
available to these microorganisms. The nutrients supplied are either carbon sources, nitrogen sources,
phosphate, electron acceptors etc. bioaugmentation is the introduction of certain actively growing
microflora which in turn induce the resident microflora to carry out the bioremediation process.

The contaminated sites are directly treated using the microorganisms. Underground petroleum pipes
sometimes have leakages. Such sites of contamination are directly treated with microorganisms that
can degrade petroleum hydrocarbons. The same is applicable in case of oil spills and heavy metal

pollutants and make them less available in the soil. Some examples of such plants are mustard, alpine
pennycress, hemp and pigweed. When the soil which is to be treated with the microorganisms is
stimulated by providing it with oxygen, it is known as bioventing. Bioleaching is a process where
living organisms or microorganisms are used to extract metals from their respective ores. This process

  • 2. Malaria Is A Disease That Affects The World s Poorest CUNY Nobel Science Challenge Malaria is a disease that affects nearly 600 million people and causes more than a million deaths a year, the most coming from children under five. This disease is regularly found in more than 100 countries around the world and affects 40% of the world s population. It is most commonly transmitted by an infected Anopheles mosquito. The most deadly form of malaria is known as Plasmodium falciparum because almost all deaths from malaria are caused by this specific one. Some of the symptoms that are affiliated with this strand of malaria are the destruction of red blood cells along with complications with the kidneys, lungs, and brain. In more serious cases, it can cause permanent neurological effects and even death. As the Nobel Assembly said at the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Diseases caused by parasites have plagued humankind for a millennium and constitute a major global health problem. • 3. Analysis Of The Film Selma Equality and Justice false promises a nation was created to protect. The historical drama, Selma (2014), directed by Ava DuVernay, depicts some of the struggles African Americans faced in the pursuit of equality and justice during the mid 1950 s to 1960 s, and the role Martin Luther King Jr. played in his attempt to overcome such inequalities. Even before its release, Selma received backlash from critics who claimed it falsely depicted Lyndon B. Johnson at odds with Martin Luther King Jr, and alleged that the murder of the four girls at the Birmingham Church occurred in September 1963, rather than at the end of 1964, which the film suggests. Regardless of such claims, the film, Selma, does depict a historical event set forth by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965. During this time period, racial segregation was prominent, especially in the southern states. The government justified such segregation based on the 14th Amendment s wording of separate but equal . However, many African Americans were dissatisfied and demanded true equality. It was not until the mid 1960 s, after Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, that racial tension began to decline. Although Martin Luther King Jr. s role was invaluable in the Civil Rights Movement and required great courage, Selma aims to portray a complex side of King, mixing his bravery and determination with self doubts and internal conflicts in his pursuit of justice and equality. To stand up for one s principles in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Revista Academie ForTelor Terestre. 1( 61): 75 82. Globalization has brought the world closer in communication, economics, politics, and especially business. The Internet and technological improvements have allowed instantaneous communication almost anywhere, and even poor women in India are using Smartphones to manage their banking portfolios. The idea of globalism continues to break down cultural barriers. As this continues it will be essential for organizations to not only understand, but embrace cultural differences and styles (Trebing and Estabrooks, 2005). Clearly, the changing demands of global stakeholders require new ways of approaching divergent customer bases. There are differences in style, skill, education and attitude in every organization now accentuated when we think of the multi national organization. Correctly managed, this diversity can be a huge bonus to the organization. Organizations are far more effective once they understand and use diversity within their strategic and tactical planning process. Also, the new paradigm for global management includes creating and maintaining a diverse work environment in which cultural diversity is encourage and celebrated, rather than simply acknowledged (We need to identify and understand how our differences impact our relationships with other employees and customers. • 6. The Planet, And Jovian Planets In The Solar System The term planet is originated from the ancient Greek word planetes which translates to wanderer. This is a fitting characterisation as the planets in our Solar System and others wander or orbit around central point a star. A planet is a celestial body which moves in an elliptical orbit around a star. Our Solar System which is located in the outer arms of the spiral galaxy, the Milky Way, has a unique and diverse composition. The Solar System consists of our star, the Sun, eight planets, and the dwarf planet, Pluto. The diverseness of our solar system is constituted to the planets and their structure. The planets are classified as either terrestrial or Jovian planets, however, these classifications do not apply to Pluto as it is neither. terrestrial planets are the four planets located closest to the Sun. The root cause for Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars to be categorized as terrestrial planets, is that they are all similar in composition. Due to the rest of the planets being Earth like, they gained their name from the Latin word terra meaning land or Earth. The Jovian planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are the four planets furthest from the Sun. The three most outer planets are categorized as Jovian planets due to their Jupiter like composition. • 8. The Millionaire Next Door The book of The Millionaire Next Door is written by Thomas Stanley and William Danko, and it uses lots of case studies and statistic data to tell us how the actual millionaires live in the society and how can normal people become millionaires. The book shows a unique insight of millionaires and base on the authors research in last twenty years, thus the result is convincing. The authors try to tell us two things: wealth is what you accumulate but not what you spend; and there are some ways you can use to get wealth. For me, this book is interesting and useful. In the first part, the book talks about prototypical millionaires live next door and starts with describing an odd situation: Some people live in expensive neighborhood and drive luxurious cars but with less income, while some people do not live in upscale neighborhoods but accumulate a lot of wealth. The later ones are the true millionaires. The authors then talk about seven common characteristics about these millionaires: they live below their means; they allocate their time and money efficiently; they believe that financial independence is more important than displaying high social status; their parents did not provide economic outpatient care; their adult children are economically self sufficient; they are proficient in targeting market opportunities; they chose the right occupation. • 9. Argumentative Speech About Fraternities What comes into your mind when you hear the word fraternity ? If you will be given the chance to join such would you choose to pledge? or not not to pledge? Why yes and why not? Apparently, everyone have their own perspective when it comes to fraternities. However, originally, fraternities or fraternal organizations were meant to be an organized society of men associated together in an environment of companionship and brotherhood. They must be dedicated to the intellectual, physical, moral, religious, and social development of its members. There are many attributes that fraternities may or may not have, depending on their structure and purpose. But sometimes, the real essence of having fraternities is being repudiated because of some immoral acts done within the organization. In the Philippines, the existence of fraternities are not prohibited. In fact, some are existing as legal organizations carrying the purpose of being an asset within the community. But in a setting like this in our country where powerful people abuses those who are not in position to make their stands, where the real meaning of brotherhood is disregarded, I believe that this is not an appropriate country to dwell with fraternities. The government should abolish fraternities for they take away the significance of education and morality in the Philippines. It is argued that the establishments of fraternities bring a very good sense of brotherhood and companionship that leads to a well organized community. Fraternities started existing wayback because of the strong desire of people in the Middles Ages to show companionship. Undeniably, they are really intended for good purposes and until now the arguments between the pros and cons of such organizations exist. First are for those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. A Study On Smoke Management System 1 LITERATURE REVIEW 1.1 Introduction Buildings with atrium are big challenge for smoke ventilation system, because if fire is initiated in atrium by any different causes at any level of atrium where there is amount of fuel to maintain steady heat release rate, there is probability that the fire will be maintained. Study fire development, smoke layer, temperature distribution and carbon monoxide concentration is complicated and unstable. Therefore, computational fluid dynamics is useful tool to analyze smoke management system. FDS (Fire Dynamic Simulator) is frequently used tool in such type of studies.[1,2]. This chapter presents an overview on the previous work in the field of smoke management system in atrium. First, study the effect of atrium height and location of exhaust fans on the smoke movement in atrium buildings Many research centers conduct studies on smoke management system. Riordan Manufacturing Supply Chain Design Riordan Manufacturing Supply Chain Design Shante Moore University of Phoenix/OPS 571 Introduction Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturer and industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding with locations in Georgia, Michigan, California, and their most current expansion in 2000 to Hangzhou, China. The plant located in China manufactures fans using a make to stock operation that uses a forecasting method to determine future demand. A review of their strategic capacity planning and lean production for their new process design and supply chain process for the electric fans will address bottleneck and supply chain issues. Also outlined are the details of new processes and how the benefit the company. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An issue arises when periodic an order for fans against the contracted yearly total is received randomly and at varying quantities throughout the year. This makes it difficult for the plant to stock materials required in the short term. Another problem is the company supplying the motors for the fans. Their on time delivery rate is only 93%. This leads to a bottleneck in manufacturing. A solution for these problems is to implement an effective ordering system or process. In order to improve the 7% lag time a second motor supplier could be used to fill the gap. There should be a maximum amount of units per month, and a specified date the units are needed. For custom orders, a specific date or deadline should be a requirement and included in the contract. Setting these specific guidelines in the plants ordering system will improve the 7% lag time in deliveries. Lean Production When the bottlenecks in a process are exposed there is a strong correlation between a strategic capacity plan and lean production. When Riordan implements a new process, lean production can be achieved. More can be accomplished efficiently in less time due to a continuous production flow (Kotelnikov, V., n.d.). The new ordering system will allow for all products needed to be available just in time to begin production. Eventually, as a more specialized cross functional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. GAAP Or Generally Accepted Accounting Standards Board (FASB) GAAP or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are set by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), an organization of accountants, financial analysts, and regulators who draw up accounting practices to meet ongoing changes in the markets. Every time some new issue arises, the FASB studies the problem, develops a proposed accounting procedure, and sends it for review and comment to different users of financial statements, including corporations and analysts (Logue, n.d.). IFRS or International Financial Reporting Standards is a set of accounting standards developed by an independent, not for profit organization called the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). It is also the common accounting standard used by over 110 countries around the world. GAAP is generally used in the U.S., though the SEC Commission Chief proposed supplemental use of IFRS for statement reporting, which was eventually quashed (Cohn, 2015). FASB is considering a new format of globally accepted principles and reporting standards to be decided upon. It has been said that conceptually IFRS is more of a principles based accounting standard, while GAAP is more of a rules based accounting standard (Nguyen, 2010). There are both advantages and disadvantages to switching to IFRS from GAAP. Some advantages are: comparisons to foreign companies will be that much easier, and raising capital through foreign nations will be made easier because investors are used to seeing financial statements ... • 14. The Life Of Happiness And The Good Life In this paper, I will argue that Aristotle is right when he says happiness or eudaimonia is when the good life is a happy life, where happiness is the end goal. I will do so first by explaining how Aristotle s eudaimonia theory found in Nicomachean Ethics is the aim of human life, a theory of happiness that is still relevant today. Secondly I will share the key ingredients in Aristotle s recipe for happiness and the good life. These include reason and virtues, pleasure and relationships, wealth and success. Lastly, I will explain why I agree with Aristotle that the life of virtue fits best with the human life. That eudaimonia is the pursuit of happiness, the goal that encompasses the totality of one s life. To start, Aristotle wrote the Nicomachean Ethics, a collection of ten books. He starts by asking what is it that humans are aiming at that would provide a good happy life? Aristotle s argument about the good is also referred to as eudaimonia. The meaning of eudaimonia is generally translated to happiness . It is the telos, final cause and goal for all living things. Aristotle refers to happiness as the highest aim of human good and the ultimate end and purpose of human existence. In this paper, eudaimonia and happiness will be used interchangeably. One can achieve eudaimonia and happiness by living well and fairing well. To achieve happiness, it is to live as best a human being can live. It is not something that can be gained or lost in a few hours like pleasurable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ehrenreich reminds her readers that the minimum paying job isn t enough to provide a decent house for herself, instead she has been living in a trailer. She reiterates that not only working conditions of the lower class are a factor to their poverty, but living conditions for the poor aren t as pleasant as they are for the upper middle class. She follows with another restriction that rises after a coworker of hers spends too much time at a bar. The employee turns out to be another woman who is, another trailer home dweller and a mother of three . She provides these details because the environment that lower class employees live in tends to drive them to getting drunk, or even into harmful habits for themselves and the people they surround themselves with. Ehrenreich explains this specific example because it presents how not only one employee is effected by a wrongdoing, but all of them are. Ehrenreich next moves on to explain that one of her coworkers was desperate enough to break into one of the storage rooms. • 16. Woyzeck Conventions By examining what is meant by the concept of theatrical genre , how would you characterize the genre of Woyzeck? Today, whenever somebody is asked to think of a typical Tragedy, his or her immediate answer would be; Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth, possibly even King Lear. This is because these plays constitute what is conventionally known as a Tragedy. They mostly follow the conventions outlined in Aristotle s Poetics, and have characteristics recognisable of a Tragedy, for example, the tragic hero being of upper class or noble background, and the tragic hero s actions leading to inevitable consequences. As Buchner s Woyzeck does not solely fit into this template, its genre can be deemed as a little confusing. However, Woyzeck is undoubtedly a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is certainly true of Woyzeck, as Woyzeck himself does all that he can to earn money for Marie and his child. He bears all the scientific experiments for the love of Marie, facing the humiliations of the Doctor and the Officer, and because of this the audience regard Woyzeck as a character that is inherently good. On finding out that Marie has had an affair, Woyzeck s world, meaningful only through his love, breaks down, and consequently we cannot help but feel immense pity for him, even though he does kill Marie. The most important element of a tragic drama to Aristotle was the idea of Catharsis, and so if we are to follow Aristotle s views of tragedy, then because of these incidents arousing pity and fear in us, then Woyzeck is undoubtedly a Tragedy. There are however some aspects to Woyzeck that make characterizing it as a tragedy slightly difficult. Traditionally within tragedies the tragic hero is of noble stature and has greatness, as common people did not interest Aristotle. It is evident to the audience however, that Woyzeck is from a working class background. Analysis Of Are You Somebody The final scene of Nuala O Faolain s memoir Are You Somebody has several aspects that differ from as well as are similar to the endings of the other Irish works we have read in class. Unique to Are You Somebody, the memoir does not conclude with a complete resolution. She also begs for the reader s pity, which the other authors with even worse situations do not resort to. However, her memoir also has numerous aspects in common with the other works. Similar to Bonaparte in The Poor Mouth and O Connor in An Only Child, O Faolain looks outward toward her future. In contrast to the definitive nature of the endings of the other books, the final chapter of Are You Somebody leaves readers hanging. The memoir concludes as she spends a Christmas day without family, only being surrounded by her dog. She reflects on her past and poses questions to herself regarding the choices she could have made in the past. She asks, What happened? Webster s New World Dictionary says that satire is the use of ridicule, sarcasm, etc. to attack vices, follies, etc. Using that definition, I think that all of the pilgrims in the Canterbury Tales are satirized to some extent; some of the satirizations are more subtle than others. The Knight is one of the pilgrims that is more subtly satirized. Chaucer satirizes knights and chivalry in two different ways: in the prologue and in the Knight s Tale. After examining the introduction of the Knight s character in the General Prologue of the Canterbury Tales, Ms. Hodges said that Chaucer intended his Knight to be the one true to life portrait of a knight of the 14th century an every knight of sorts. She also concluded that Chaucer wanted to go against the normal chivalric ideal of a knight by presenting a knight as he really might have been: a basically good person, but with imperfections. I disagree with Hodges about Chaucer s intentions when characterizing the knight. I don t think the knight was meant to be a true to life portrait of the every knight . Feeding a city comes with a lot of issues, especially feeding the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) at a population of 414,000 (Statistics Canada, 2015). Although food is required to sustain humans, it has not always been produced sustainably in Halifax. Food sustainability is not only concerned with the food people consume, but rather looks at the whole system, interconnecting social, economic, and environmental components. In Halifax, barriers to food sustainability include greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, food waste, food corporations, and food insecurity. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions One of the main negative externalities of the food system in HRM is the vast amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced. Looking at this in terms of an ecological footprint, a measurement of resource consumption and waste production, Nova Scotians use approximately 8 hectares each. This is more than four times the sustainable global amount of 1.8 hectares per person. Furthermore, Nova Scotians food usage accounts for about one third of the total footprint (Lowe, 2007). Hence, there are definitely driving factors within the HRM food system that are increasing the ecological footprint. Transporting food to accessible locations is a large problem in Halifax. Of the primary accomplishments of females within modern philosophy, three main emphases reign most important to modernity and those are as follows: Elisabeth of the Palatinate s influence of Cartesian dualism and Anne Viscountess Conway s impact on the philosophy of Gottfried Leibniz. Due to the similar substance of both mind and matter, Conway suggested they only differed as to mode and that distinctions made between the attributes of matter as impenetrable and extended, and spirit as penetrable and unextended, were not to be assigned respectively to two separate substances. The vitalist nature of Conway s philosophical thought was an influential reaction against the ideology of mechanists, and although her monistic viewpoint was more giving than the dualistic nature of Cartesianism, it was expelled as a basic reduction of all of reality to the idealist category of spirt (ignoring the presences of ... • 38. The Impact of Technology Technology, mainly computers and video games, have made a vast difference in our society. Many years ago there were not very many forms of technology that existed. People often used type writers, went, dancing, did puzzle, and played board games for entertainment. Nowadays, the use of computers has become extremely popular. If an individual is not using a computer for some form on entertainment, they are most likely using it for something along the lines of school or work. Technology has gone from being a convenient tool to being a bad impact on society. Not only is it insulting the intelligence of many young adults, but it is also taking away from one s social behavior. Some people, however, disagree and think technology has made a ... In his article, Steven Lohr says, On average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face to face instruction. Although this may be true for some individuals, there are a majority of others who will argue that this statement is wrong. He also states, The real promise of online education, experts say, is providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms. That enables more learning by doing, which many students find more engaging and useful. This article is leaning more towards the idea that online education is a better choice than classroom education. This idea could go both ways. It mostly depends on the preferred learning style of the student. If the student learns better by reading the required learning material, then he or she would probably agree that online courses are easier for them. However, if the student is a more visual learner, then he or she may learn better by being in a classroom and being physically taught. They may also agree that taking online courses make knowledge valueless. There are also many individuals out there who will argue that video games have positive effects on children in our society today. In an online article, James Robers shares that, The online video games that children play require abstract thinking skills ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bioremediation a better and a more cost effective option. Bioremediation is a process which employs microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and algae for the cleanup of the environment contaminated with pollutants. Bioremediation is of many types, which are biostimulation, bioaugmentation, intrinsic bioremediation, phytoremediation, bioventing, bioleaching, land farming, composting, rhizofiltration and bioreactors. Biostimulation refers to the method where the environment acts as the stimulant and it stimulates or motivates the microorganisms to carry out bioremediation. This stimulant is usually in the form of nutrients made available to these microorganisms. The nutrients supplied are either carbon sources, nitrogen sources, phosphate, electron acceptors etc. bioaugmentation is the introduction of certain actively growing microflora which in turn induce the resident microflora to carry out the bioremediation process. Such sites of contamination are directly treated with microorganisms that can degrade petroleum hydrocarbons. The same is applicable in case of oil spills and heavy metal contamination. Phytoremediation is brought about by certain special plants which can take up the pollutants and make them less available in the soil. Some examples of such plants are mustard, alpine pennycress, hemp and pigweed. When the soil which is to be treated with the microorganisms is stimulated by providing it with oxygen, it is known as bioventing. Bioleaching is a process where living organisms or microorganisms are used to extract metals from their respective ores. This process ensures that there is not much expenditure of both chemicals and energy to bring about the extraction.
