Principles Of Universal Design Of Kroger
ADA/Universal Design Project Summary The grocery store Kroger was inspected based on American
s with Disabilities Act (ADA) and universal design. Overall the store was very disability friendly
although, like many grocery stores, Kroger had items high on shelves that would be hard for people in
wheelchairs to reach. To fix this problem, some principles of universal design could be integrated into
the store layout. The general universal design of the store was fairly inclusive. The power doors at the
entrance allowed for equitable use, the first principle of universal design. Kroger also had restrooms
on either ends of the store. One of the sets of restrooms contained two unisex bathrooms. Though
these two bathrooms didn t have accessible signs there were grab bars and low sinks in the bathroom
fulfilling the second universal design, principle flexibility in use. The organization of the store made it
simple and intuitive, one side of the store contained groceries while the other contained home goods.
This setup allows for optimal flow throughout the store and ease when looking for specific items.
Kroger complied with the low physical effort principle in many ways, the doors to the bathrooms were
very easy to push and pull, and had handles that would be within reach of someone in a ... Show more

Without the tactile or auditory aids it would be difficult for a blind person to be able to decipher
different brands of the same products. To become more universally designed Kroger could have
scanners that customers could use to scan an item for an auditory message of what the product is.
Kroger didn t seem to have any features that fulfilled the tolerance for error principle. They could
improve their design by creating an undo button for the self check out computers. This button would
allow for error if someone accidentally pressed an unwanted button or scanned an unwanted

Betrayal In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
Taking place in the natural world, Samuel Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner follows a man
and his crew through a supernatural experience induced by spiritual retribution. This man, the
mysterious Ancient Mariner, is now cursed with the need to share his story so that he may find
temporary relief. In a sense he has become an estranged prophet following the course of his voyage
through the realms of life and death. He and his crew are tormented relentlessly after he willfully kills
the one thing that secured their salvation, a beautiful albatross. Through the intervention and death of
the beloved creature, biblical and other supernatural themes intertwine to create a tale that parallels a
Biblical story of betrayal and combines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then thanks the Virgin Mary for his ability to sleep, acknowledging a character of the Bible in his
momentary bliss. During his sleep, the Ancient Mariner s ship sets sail and he awakes to angels over
each of his crewmate s dead bodies guiding the ship into harbor. It is here that the Ancient Mariner is
rescued by the Pilot and Pilot s boy and is able to meet the hermit, a man whose close relationship
with God causes the Ancient Mariner to hope that he can free him of his sin. Upon communicating
with the hermit, the Ancient Mariner first experiences his need to tell others of his

Language In English Language
Although human beings can learn a lot about language from reading books and studying grammatical
conventions, purely analysing or studying a language as an object will not allow a person to submerge
themselves in the true social process and complexity of the language. Grudgeon and Gardner (2000)
use the analogy of language as a fish; the fish, itself is an organism to be studied, but its true marvel
becomes apparent when it swims. The fish represents the written, structured conventional form of
language, whereas human beings add another element as they shape and morph language to suit their
social environment, representing the fish in motion. A person learning English as a second language
may excel in a structured classroom environment, only to find themselves confused in a real world
environment when fluent English speakers converse dynamically using slang, sarcasm, jokes and
inferred meanings. Children predominantly learn to speak from social imitation and interaction (Gee
Hayes, 2011). Inferred meanings or social semiotics are learnt through exposure and interaction,
similar to learning the different meanings of the traffic lights from repeated experience, until it
becomes instinctive to stop at a red light. Eventually, people react to the use of language
subconsciously as opposed to literally interpreting what the speaker is saying. Different dialects and
formalities also add complexity to understanding the use of language. A dialect is a variation of a
language used

Freud s Pychoanalytic Theory
The only person with whom you have to compare yourself with is you in the past Freud, S. (n.d.). In
this assessment, I will cover the concept of Sigmund Freud s (1856) psychoanalytic theory. I will also
pay particular attention to the application of the psychoanalytic theory to my life in its entirety.
Specifically addressing my thoughts, emotions and feelings in certain situations and the way in which
my upbringing has shaped my personality.
What is personality?
Personality refers to an individual s unique set of consistent behavioural traits (Weiten, 2016, p. 334).
Personality can also be used to describe why people act diverse in parallel situations. The concept of
personality is used to define the consistency and distinctiveness of a person s behavior (Weiten, 2016).
Who is Sigmund Freud?
Sigmund Freud was born in 1856 into a Jewish home in Vienna (Weiten, 2016). He became a
physician and specialised in neurology, eventually dedicating himself to the treatment of mental
disorders, using a procedure he developed himself known as Psychoanalysis (Weiten, 2016). Freud
was also obsessed with sex and sexual urges (Weiten, 2016). Freud developed his Psychoanalytic
theory out of his workings with his patients (Weiten, 2016). This theory attempts to explain

and that we are completely oblivious to its workings (Monotype, n.d., p. 284) and as the id never

Steve Mcqueen Trauma
Outsider Perspectives Into Trauma: Steve McQueen s Hunger (2008) The concept of trauma cinema is
problematic. There are issues which arise concerning the exploitation and misrepresentation of trauma
narratives. As a result, the notion of a filmmaker operating from a position outside of trauma having
any insight into trauma is contentious. The nature of trauma is such that it makes it so that this is
essentially an impossible task an outsider perspective being incapable of engaging in trauma cinema.
This is the view which I seek to challenge. I will argue instead that it is an outsider perspective which
is uniquely positioned to trauma in such a way that it is maximally effective engaging in trauma
cinema. This I will demonstrate with Steve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will argue instead that an outsider perspective is in fact an asset in trauma cinema, especially in the
case of a collective trauma. This is because in the case of a collective trauma, like national conflict,
there are lines of allegiances drawn and narratives which subsequently conform to these. In other
words, renarrativisation tends to affirm existing mythologies where trauma cinema requires the
rupturing of mythologies . (Beckett, 2001; 47) How this is facilitated can be in the form of an outsider
perspective, this which is able to move beyond the immediate scar tissue (Beckett, 2001; 47), having
been unencumbered by loyalties to a particular narrative or political sympathy. An outsider
perspective can reveal new perspectives this being the aim of trauma cinema. In this way an outsider
perspective can be an asset, it being able to engage in multiples sides to a conflict, with disregard to
politicised narratives which hinder from progress. Through this type of cinematic experience, a
traumatised individual is allowed to critically work through an experience of trauma, this process
facilitated by the insight of the filmmaker who operates from a position without from the situation of

Jack Episode IV: The Magical Key Jack is your normal, everyday 15 year old kid. Since he could
remember, he has always had to do without many possessions in his life. But he has always been
happy go lucky, yet somewhat careless with his thoughts and actions. They lived in a rundown
apartment building in the slums, and have been selling their possessions and finding miscellaneous
jobs and tasks just to make it by. Jack was down to his last few cd s and just a couple of dvd s, while
his mother was down to her collection of Shirley Temple porcelain plates that had a lot of sentimental

Analysis Of Who Moved My Cheese By Spencer Johnson
Who Moved My Cheese , by Spencer Johnson, is a short story that is focused around change and
adaptation. Spencer Foster includes four characters, two mice, Sniff and Scurry, and two little people
named Hem and Haw. Johnson was a physician and psychologist, who wrote books such as Who
Moved My Cheese , One Minute Manager , and The Guide To Better Decisions . Who moved My

Hem and Haw refuse to move, and end up going hungry waiting for more cheese to come back to the
original location. Hem finally moves on and discovers the location of a great cheese stash along with
his friends Sniff and Scurry. The book never fully reveals whether or not Hem makes it out of cheese
station C, but it exhibits how it is possible to discover better opportunities that come with change
through the actions of Haw. The short story Who Moved My Cheese, is a popular novel incorporated
into many businesses to assist in training employees. Fred Nickols wrote an article discussing how he
views the book, and the overall message concerning the purpose of the book. He states that the main
point of the book is to make life simpler than it really is . Nickols expresses his distaste for the book,
and his reluctance to buy it . The writing suggests that Nickols is taking the book s plot too far on the
realism scale, and not considering the real message of the text. The book is meant to inspire people to
be resilient from hardship, and adapt to change, it s not read for the story of the characters. I find the
message of adaptability with change to be warranted, whereas Nickos thinks the book is a get on
board or else message. It seems like he is unnecessarily mad at the book for no reason. The general
feeling this article imposes upon the reader of, is somewhat like he is upset with a fiction story for
being unrealistic. He claims that the book s value is

Christianity vs. Entrapment in O Connor Wise Blood Essay
Christianity vs. Entrapment in O Connor s Wise Blood
In The Cage of Matter: The World as Zoo in Flannery O Connor s Wise Blood, William Rodney Allen
addresses the reverse evolution of Enoch Emery and the inverted quest for salvation of Hazel Motes,
suggesting a parallel between the two main characters of O Connor s novel which reinforces its theme
of the utter hopelessness of those who reject or mock Christ. Allen shows that O Connor describes the
spiritually devoid characters in her book in animal like terms, equating faithless humans with soulless
animals. The essay further asserts that O Connor uses the zoo as a metaphor for a physical world that
entraps those without spirituality. Indeed, the novel shows a world of ... Show more content on

Enoch s pathetic christening of the museum mummy as the new jesus garners him only
disappointment. Likewise, his transformation into a gorilla fails to deliver him from his entrapment; as
Allen says, The human animal has come to the limit of his freedom, and he symbolically finds himself
alone in his cage (268). Throughout most of the novel, Hazel remains similarly trapped. Allen points
out several symbolic traps that Hazel encounters, from his berth in the train to, paradoxically, his car,
which Hazel erroneously regards as the way to freedom (262 63). As Allen points out, neither the new
jesus, Asa Hawks, his own blasphemous Church of Christ without Christ, nor his car can help him
escape from the prison of himself (267).
O Connor s position is that a way exists for man to escape the prison of the mundane physical world,
but it is not of self will and has nothing to do with material possessions. This position is in contrast to
those of many O Connor contemporaries; Jack Kerouac, for instance, made a career of celebrating the
joys of the physical world, most notably in his novel On the Road, which portrays the automobile as a
quick ticket to freedom. Other American novelists, such as F. Scott Fitzgerald in The Great Gatsby and
Ernest Hemingway in The Sun Also Rises, decried the spiritual wasteland they saw the world as but
offered little hope for escape from it.

Temper Vs Birth Order Essay
I was the second/last child born in my family. I feel that birth order has had a true effect on my
behavior and my personality. It s very easy to compare me with my brother. My brother is the oldest.
He strives to achieve his goal and , as of right now, he s doing a pretty well job with striving.
Comparing him with me, I am more of a social person. I like to hangout with my friends and be social.
I am also more humorous than many people may think. He is more of a serious person. Also, he
sometimes worries about me, only because he wants me to make sure I achieve my goals just as he is
trying to achieve his. Achieving goals isn t just something my brother does just because he is first
born. An Iranian culture is very goal oriented. My dad always told me that if I want to pursue a career
as a lawyer or a doctor, I must do what I can to get to that goal. Since then, I have been interning at the
Milton City Court and Milton Police Department to help me get to my goal to be a lawyer. Nature vs.
Nurture has played a huge part in my life. My temper has definitely been brought upon from my dad,
which is nature. The reason I know my temper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Thoughts About The Class
My thoughts about the class changed throughout the 10 weeks in the quarter. I thought the class was
going to be boring but it turned out really good. I really like the exercises that we do in class because
they help you create a better character for scenes. My final performance went really well; I was really
nervous to perform in front of the class because I thought they wouldn t like the scene but after
performing I got great compliments. I forgot some lines, but I didn t let it show so I had to stall so I
could remember my lines and finish the scene. I had a really great partner, we both contributed to
making this great scene we both traded off doing the work like blocking the scene and writing the
script to have a complete version. When performing and creating the script I thought of phrases from
the reading to help me through the scene like: listening to my partner, knowing my lines, creating a
character, and blocking. I think they really help us create a great scene. We rehearsed a lot so we can
could do great for the final we both worked really hard to perform the scene.
Overall, it went really well for the first time writing a script and then after performing it for the class. I
think this class help me create a character for the final scene really well physically and sometimes
emotionally because the character was the opposite of what I would do. I think with the exercises that
we did in class like hot seat that help me get an idea on how my character would sound so

Keep Wild Animals In Captivity Research Paper
Tigers, zebras, and gorillas are wonderful and interesting yet some never should be pets and belong in
the zoo. There are two sides to this question some argue that people should be able to keep wild
animals as pets or in captivity because it provides protection for the animals and zoos help educate
visitors about animals but others say they shouldn t be able to keep wild animals as pets or in captivity
because of the wide spread of disease and because of untrained owners. People and organizations
should be allowed to keep wild animals pets or in captivity. If people couldn t be able to rescue
animals they would not survive. Getting rid of zoos would be tragic for all animals, says Steve

The Implementation Of A Universal Service System
The focus for action has been on the following key areas; the amendment of the Children and Young
Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 so only children and young people who are suspected, on
reasonable grounds, to be at risk of significant harm should be reported to FACS.
The implementation of a universal service system, e.g.:1. Universal parenting education erg: Triple P,
for parents with children 3 8, universal home visits to every parent with a new baby.2 Strengthening
Early Intervention and Community Based Services e.g., expanding Brighter Futures program, health
home visiting for at risk teenage mothers, 3. Better Protection for Children at Risk e.g.: violence
prevention coordination units, review of police response to domestic and family violence incidents 4.
Better Supporting Aboriginal Children and Families e.g.; Two Ways Together ten year plan, Universal
services: Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Strategy, 5. Strengthening Partnership across the
Community Services Sector e.g., Building the capacity of the non government sector, Workforce and
cultural change. 6 Changing practice system e.g.; the establishment of the Child Wellbeing Units, the

Chlorofluorocarbons Affecting Canada s Ozone Layer
How do CFCs or chlorofluorocarbons affect Canada s Ozone layer. To answer this question we first
have to understand chlorofluorocarbons and the earth s ozone layer. Chlorofluorocarbons are chemical
compounds made up of three chlorine atoms. One fluorine atom and 1 carbon atom. There were many
uses for CFCs ranging from, being used as coolants in refrigerants to propellants for aerosols to being
used as solvents for dry cleaning. As CFCs are non flammable and not very toxic we thought they
were a revolutionary compound, but unfortunately CFCs were one of the leading causes for the
depletion of our ozone layer. ozone is a type of oxygen, an ozone molecule consists of three oxygen
atoms whereas a regular oxygen molecule only consists of two.

The Hollow Hope By Gerald Rosenberg Essay
Throughout the 20th century the medium of music has allowed for artists to convey their thoughts and
feelings on important political topic facing the nation at the time. The power from these songs derives
itself from its ability to create a relationship between the listener and the artist and allow for the
message to transcend social barriers. A more recent instance of an artist using his music to connect
important social issues with a wider audience, is rapper Frank Ocean. Ocean revealed to his fans and
the world that he was a homosexual. This admission sent shockwaves throughout the rap community,
one that has been marred with constant criticism of perpetuating homophobia and extreme male ego.
His groundbreaking 2012 album, Channel Orange, allowed for many people to no longer be afraid of
their sexuality and it is something that should be embraced. Frank s impact will never fully be
realized, but he undoubtedly has made an impact on society and a stereotype breaker in the rap
community. This paper discusses the article by Gerald Rosenberg, The Hollow Hope which describes
the effect of political mobilization being sparked from litigation and how the courts have become an
avenue for social change. The article specifically looks at the rise of the LGBT movement after
landmark Supreme Court cases and whether this sudden mobilization in support, brought an even
more fervent opposition. Furthermore, this paper also examines Jeffery Segal and Harold Spaeth s
article, The

Briefly Outline the Distinctive Features of the...
Sociology is the systematic, sceptical and critical study of the way that people do things together .It s
not a science that simply lists facts and figures about society. Instead it becomes a form of
consciousness, a way of thinking, a critical way of seeing the world. It welcomes you to challenge the
obvious, to question the world as it is taken for granted and to de familiarising the familiar. This is
what empowers critical thinking which triggers the development of the understanding of the human
life. The aim of this essay is to outline the sociological approach to understanding human life , to

by social context. He claims that some things in society lead to certain outcomes. when a society

Electric cars are efficient because its energy efficient, cheaper power cost and less energy are wasted
in the process. Electric cars are energy efficient because it uses all the energy it only needs to run the
vehicle. Unlike conventional cars which still needs to convert energy by burning fuel, electric cars are
charge using electricity which is directly used to run the car. The use of electricity make electric cars
more efficient because electricity is cheaper than fuel in some countries. In a study done by National
Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), the prices of fuel are said to be on the raise in the next
few year because of the increase in demand on fuel and the decrease in the oil reserve. Fuel will
become as expensive as gold. The market for fuel powered cars will soon decline in the increase in oil
prices. Unlike fuel, electricity can be produce with renewable energy through wind turbines,
hydroelectric plants and other more. Electricity can be produce with renewable energy which means
its stable and will not get despited in the near future or ever. As electric cars uses electricity, the car
does not emit noise and heat which are emitted by conventional cars. The voice and heat produced by
cars does not really have any use in cars. These are produced by conventional cars which runs on fuel.

Fair Use Doctrine Essay
Lurking in the halls of the Dan Rather Building at Sam Houston State is what some would call label a

For others, he is no different than the hundreds if not thousands of other educators that use protected

by the United States Constitution under Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 and are under federal

Established permanently through the Copyright Act of 1976 (p. 347), this doctrine allows for
exclusions to the exclusive right granted by Copyright Law. As mentioned earlier, exclusions to
copyright protection exist and are known as the Fair Use Doctrine. This doctrine was established in
section 107 of the 1976 copyright act as a response to some major cases heard previously. Protected
works that are used for the purpose of criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or

However, this only gives people a limited privilege, and not an absolute right to use the work. Folsom

appeals process found that fair use was not applicable in the case because the defendants had used too
much of the work and earned a profit from it. In his opinion, Justice Joseph Story enumerated factors
that could be used to determine if the use fell under the Fair Use

The Umayyads, a short lived and stylistically secular khalifate, were overthrown by mercenaries from
their province of Khorasan over disagreements about their governance. One Umayyad survivor, Abd

Rewarding Students By Providing Feedback
Rewarding students by providing them with feedback is important to not only help them improve, but
also to provide them with the knowledge that they are doing things right. Not all feedback has to focus
on the negative. It is equally important to share with others areas they succeed in. this will boost
morale and leave them to feel more confident in their work. Feedback is critical to anyone no matter
the type of environment they are working in. Individual and groups can both benefit from feedback.
Leaders that provide feedback are providing followers with resources they may need.
Transformational leaders also work to provide followers with what they need. Women tend to be more
transformational and some would think this would make women leadership more appealing, but I
believe it can be difficult for others to perceive a woman as charismatic and therefore unable to lead in
high positions. If it is difficult for a woman to connect with specific followers they may not be able to
get their vision through to their followers making it impossible to inspire others to jump on board with
certain actions that are taken. Changing this may be difficult, but providing women with opportunities
will give them a chance to prove themselves. My leadership philosophy is based on the idea of giving
others opportunity and making sure moral and ethical standards are kept. A leader s faith, values and
character should all be a priority in their leadership style and should never be risked.

Survival Skills of the Fittest
You are on a plane in the middle of a war with twelve strangers and suddenly you wake up on a beach,
on a deserted island with no idea how you got there. Not only do you not know where you are, no one
else knows either. Hope of rescue is slim. You and the others are scared. The pilot is dead and there are
no supplies in sight. What are you going to do? You could do nothing and just wait to be rescued. Or,
you could take responsibility for your fate and fight for your life. Would a group of boys be capable of
making the correct decisions that would facilitate their survival on this deserted island? Ralph, the

BuildingDNA most develop the capacity in order to minimize idle and unused resources, and meet
their contractual obligations in a timely manner. As identified by BuildingDNA executives, there are
four components to this challenge that must be addressed, which are the following: Paremeter izing
new contracts; identifying and acquiring capacity of skilled man hours; managing the fulfillment of
each contract to meet expectations; and analysis and evaluate production outcomes versus standards
for future contracts and the continuous improvement of the production process. Problem Causes The
root cause of the challenge addressed above, is the lack of resources. These resources can be thought
of as the proper Enterprise Resource Planning and Workforce Management software, qualified
personnel, and the creation and implementation of organizational policies, to include information

which is funding. A well funded organization generally have the ability to implement specific software

Corporate Tax Rate In America
1. One of the major issues we are facing in the US economy is how much we should charge in regards
to the corporate tax rate. Corporate tax rate is imposed by the government and determines how much a
corporate business will pay in taxes at the end of the year. Trump plans on decreasing the corporate tax
rate from 35% to 15%. Out of the 34 countries in the OECD, America ranks first with a 39.1 percent
corporate tax rate, compared to an OECD average of 24.1 percent. Along with trump, I think that we
should reconsider the corporate tax rate. If we were to lower the rate than companies would have more
money to spend and put back into our economy. Although I agree with Trump, there are several factors
that affect this decision and there are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fiscal policy that I suggest we use to address the problem is graduated corporate income. We
should not determine the corporate tax rate as one concrete number. We should decide the rate based
on how big the company is. The policy will state that the first $50,000 of a corporation s profit is
taxed at a 15% and will cap out at 35% for companies that make more than $335,000. Using this
policy will make it so more small businesses will grow because they will not be taxed as much as a
large company that can actually afford it.
5. The monetary policy I suggest we use is to increase the money supply and lower the cost of
borrowing. I believe that this will affect how we calculate the corporate tax rate because if a company
has an easier time getting a loan, and if they have access to more money, we can make the tax rate
higher because they will have more money. The money that we get from taxing these corporations
should be put back into the economy by the government. If we were to keep the tax rates higher we
can use the extra money and put it into things such as; the building of roads, education, and

My Grandpa Research Paper
As my grandfather looked out into the dread filled ocean, it was then that he realised there was no
going back. Once he stepped foot onto that aircraft carrier he felt worried and feared he would not
come back. This was the only thing that my grandpa ever told me about his past in the Korean War.
However, it also got me intrigued in the United States Armed Forces. As he passed away, I just wished
I would have asked him about the stories he must of had about the war and friends he met there. I was
scared he would agonize about the traumas he had. After his death, we went through photo books of
him and founds photos of him on the U.S.S Hancock. Seeing those pictures of him as a Gunner Mate
sparked an interest in the military and what it had to offer.
My grandpa, (J.W. Croney), was an excellent man and has given me much insight of what to become

rarely looks older than 25, has a flawless body, and her hair and clothes are always perfect. She is not

Our culture judges women, and women judge themselves, against this standard. It is forgotten that
beauty pornography , as Wolf says, focuses on underweight models that are usually 15 to 20 years old.
Flaws, wrinkles and other problems are airbrushed out of the picture. Wolf discusses the effect that
these standards are having on women in the workplace. A woman s beauty, or lack of it, can be used
against her. In 1986, Mechelle Vinson lost a sexual harassment case. Vinson was young and beautiful
and carefully dressed. The district court ruled that her appearance counted against her. (Wolf 38) In

from all walks of life should read it. We all need to become much more aware of how strong and how

The Legacy of the Canadarm
The Canadarm has a rich modern heritage and has a great legacy for the Canada in space and
exploration. The Canadarm was critical to the success of the United States shuttle program. The
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) created the shuttle program with the vision of
a reusable spacecraft for the next generation of human space flight. NASA faced a series of problems
including the issue of manipulating objects in space. The solution required precision for manipulation
of objects in orbit. NASA turned to the international community to create a solution. One of the

Plot Of Antigone Plot
Plot Summary: The story takes place in Victorian Era London. Creon is a rich earl who is feared by
many. His nephews, Eteocles and Polyneices, engaged in a duel over who would be viable to inherit
his fortune (which belonged to their father before Creon). Both were killed. Because Polyneices
started the conflict, Creon decided that he was disgraced and ordered that he be given no funeral or
proper burial. But one of Polyneices s sisters, Antigone, decided that Creon s ruling was unfair and
went behind his back to try and organise a funeral for him.
Act Summary: The undertaker at the local funeral parlor met Antigone when she arrived, trying to
organize a funeral for her disgraced brother. Knowing that Creon had notified every funeral parlor in
the area that Polyneices was to be denied a funeral, he brought Antigone to Creon s estate, where the
two get into an argument.
[CREON stands with his arms crossed, clearly upset with ANTIGONE, who stares ahead forlornly.
Her lavish dress is dirty, as if she had struggled to avoid capture. The UNDERTAKER still holds her
arm tightly.]
CREON
Have you really disobeyed me?
ANTIGONE [eyes downcast, avoiding her uncle]
Well, I see no point in denying it.
CREON [sighs]
Thank you for catching her, undertaker. You may leave now.
[The UNDERTAKER nods and exits the house.]
Antigone, were you fully aware that I had forbade a funeral for your embarrassment of a brother?

According to Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James R. Blaker, military bases are installations
routinely used by military forces that supply their personnel with the means and equipment to respond
to a threat within the land it occupies (The Editors, 2011). As the world s only superpower, the US
possesses more military bases in foreign countries than any other state in the entire world. In the year

To answer this we must look at the stability and political environments that encompass a state because
they play a large role in the ability of other actors to occupy land that it controls. For this reason, the

what countries that they decide to ally themselves with in order to analyze potential political outcomes
(Lostumbo, Michael J., McNerney, Michael J., Peltz, Eric, 2013). Factors that can play a role can
include a countries economic growth, annual GDP, or if there is ethnic conflict within the territory. If

What evidence is there that Alexander may have believed that he was of divine descent? And how

From studying the sources of the ancient world that talk about Alexander The Great, it is clear that
many of them present Alexander as being some type of heroic figure or Demi god. However you could
question whether Alexander believed this himself. Only by studying his actions and the actions of

of sources that exist from the time of and around his death. Most of these sources have been lost or are

So this may be why he visited the temple, not out of any personal belief that he was descended from
Ammon, but instead, out of a sense of duty or to appear to be taking the fact that he was made Pharaoh
by the Egyptian people as being a great honour. More over by visiting the temple he would be making
his Egyptian subjects happy. Arrian further states that other accounts say that Alexander went to the
temple so that he could gain Ammon s approval before founding Alexandria. This would seem
plausible since, although there is question whether or not Alexander believed that he was of divine
descent, it cannot be doubted that he took worship of the gods very seriously. And he would most
certainly want a god of Ammon s statures approval on something as important as the founding of
Alexandria.
Later Arrian states that when Alexander arrived at the temple, the priest answered the question of his
divinity by greeting him as son of Ammon . This is, by Arrian s wording, what his heart desired . This
would once again indicate that both he and others around him did truly believe that he was of divine
descent. Although Arrian is somewhat sceptical as to whether Alexander truly did crave this answer or
if that is just what he said because it is what other people wanted to hear.
Plutarch writes that some accounts say that when Alexander entered the temple the priest wished to

The second disadvantage was that Sumer was a small region, and so the protection of the village was
hard. The third and final disadvantage was that the natural resources of Sumer were extremely limited.
Creating Solutions Over time, the people of Sumer created solutions to deal with the
problems/disadvantages. To provide water, they dug irrigation ditches that carried river water to the
fields, and allowed them to provide a surplus of crops. To defend the city/village, they built city walls
with mud bricks. Then they traded with the people of the mountains and the desert for the products
they lacked. They would trade their grain, cloth, and crafted tools for the stone, wood, and metal they
needed to make tools and buildings. It took many people working together, like for the large irrigation
systems. Leaders planned the projects and supervise the digging. The projects created the need for
laws to settle disputes over how land and water was distributed. This was the beginning of an
organized government. Sumerians Create City States The Sumerians stand out in history as one of the

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, A Prolific Writer Of Concertos
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1757 1791, was a prolific writer of concertos, composing 27 piano
concertos. Throughout his writing he developed the use of the cadenza, highlighting the performer s
talent with a virtuosic passage. Not all Mozart s cadenzas have survived therefore future composers
have attempted to recreate these passages, often reflecting the period in which they were written.
Cadenza comes from the Latin Cadere , to fall and broadly means a flourish at the end of a single
melodic line. In the Medieval period pieces contained flourishes to enhance their final cadences,
though few were notated. This is the cadenza in its earliest form. In late seventeenth century opera the
improvised cadenza was purely virtuosic notes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is in the first movement of C.P.E. Bach s Harpsichord Concerto in G major H475
below.
Ex. 1: Obbligato cadenzas in C.P.E. Bach Harpsichord Concerto, H 475, First Movement. By the mid
eighteenth century the cadenza had become an established element of the concerto, a tradition
contributed to by the fact that the cadenza added drama, created contrast between the tutti and solo
performer and created a conclusion. Most cadenzas were at a cadential six four, placed toward the
final solo section of the movement as shown above.
Mozart was an influential composer in the eighteenth century, composing many of his works for the
pianoforte. Mozart s early cadenzas do not usually quote from the movement within which they were
written. These generic cadenzas often consist of scales and arpeggios which, in theory, could be
transferred for use in another concerto in similar tempo and key. This happens in the cadenza of the
first movement of K. 238 in B flat major which is made of regular scales and consists of no real
thematic material relating to the work.
As the eighteenth century improvised cadenza began to develop, the passages became longer and more
virtuosic. Mozart and Daniel Turk (1750 1813), notable composer, organist, scholar and peer of
Quantz, both disagreed with this, believing that the new cadenzas were distracting from the work.

The Theory Of Robert Pickton As A Serial Killer
First, the theory chosen for the social science discipline, psychology is psychosocial. The focus of the
theory is how Robert Pickton became a serial killer due to the environment he grew up in and
relationships. Pickton s parents ran a meat business in Port Coquitlam and Pickton alongside his
brother helped them. Pickton s mother was tough and had the children work on a strict schedule. In
addition, Pickton s father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence in
why he murders women. Pickton was close to his mother and she also was a major authority figure in
his life. Consequently, Pickton could have grown a hatred towards women due to his mother and is the
reason he targets women. Enough hatred to ensure his victims suffer by raping and killing them Also,
due to his mother making him work hard on the farm he had little to no childhood. Pickton did raise a
calf and was very close to it, however, the calf was slaughtered. As a result, Pickton never forgot it and
also said from CBC News, the incident made him realize life was fleeting. Additionally, Pickton is
used to seeing things being killed and dying because he saw many animals being slaughtered when he
was young. Death in his eyes has been normalized and is not an unusual occurrence. This is a key
reason Pickton does not feel remorse for the killing of his victims because it is normal to him.
Furthermore, Pickton was quiet and socially awkward, sometimes exhibiting unusual behaviour.

To fix this problem, some principles of universal design could be integrated into the store layout. The general universal design of the store was fairly inclusive. The power doors at the entrance allowed for equitable use, the first principle of universal design. Kroger also had restrooms on either ends of the store. One of the sets of restrooms contained two unisex bathrooms. Though these two bathrooms didn t have accessible signs there were grab bars and low sinks in the bathroom fulfilling the second universal design, principle flexibility in use. The organization of the store made it simple and intuitive, one side of the store contained groceries while the other contained home goods. This setup allows for optimal flow throughout the store and ease when looking for specific items. Kroger complied with the low physical effort principle in many ways, the doors to the bathrooms were very easy to push and pull, and had handles that would be within reach of someone in a ... Language In English Language Although human beings can learn a lot about language from reading books and studying grammatical conventions, purely analysing or studying a language as an object will not allow a person to submerge themselves in the true social process and complexity of the language. Grudgeon and Gardner (2000) use the analogy of language as a fish; the fish, itself is an organism to be studied, but its true marvel becomes apparent when it swims. The fish represents the written, structured conventional form of language, whereas human beings add another element as they shape and morph language to suit their social environment, representing the fish in motion. A person learning English as a second language may excel in a structured classroom environment, only to find themselves confused in a real world environment when fluent English speakers converse dynamically using slang, sarcasm, jokes and inferred meanings. Children predominantly learn to speak from social imitation and interaction (Gee Hayes, 2011). Inferred meanings or social semiotics are learnt through exposure and interaction, similar to learning the different meanings of the traffic lights from repeated experience, until it becomes instinctive to stop at a red light. Eventually, people react to the use of language subconsciously as opposed to literally interpreting what the speaker is saying. Different dialects and formalities also add complexity to understanding the use of language. A dialect is a variation of a language used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically addressing my thoughts, emotions and feelings in certain situations and the way in which my upbringing has shaped my personality. What is personality? Personality refers to an individual s unique set of consistent behavioural traits (Weiten, 2016, p. 334). Personality can also be used to describe why people act diverse in parallel situations. The concept of personality is used to define the consistency and distinctiveness of a person s behavior (Weiten, 2016). Who is Sigmund Freud? • 6. Steve Mcqueen Trauma Outsider Perspectives Into Trauma: Steve McQueen s Hunger (2008) The concept of trauma cinema is problematic. There are issues which arise concerning the exploitation and misrepresentation of trauma narratives. As a result, the notion of a filmmaker operating from a position outside of trauma having any insight into trauma is contentious. The nature of trauma is such that it makes it so that this is essentially an impossible task an outsider perspective being incapable of engaging in trauma cinema. This is the view which I seek to challenge. I will argue instead that it is an outsider perspective which is uniquely positioned to trauma in such a way that it is maximally effective engaging in trauma cinema. This I will demonstrate with Steve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will argue instead that an outsider perspective is in fact an asset in trauma cinema, especially in the case of a collective trauma. This is because in the case of a collective trauma, like national conflict, there are lines of allegiances drawn and narratives which subsequently conform to these. In other words, renarrativisation tends to affirm existing mythologies where trauma cinema requires the rupturing of mythologies . (Beckett, 2001; 47) How this is facilitated can be in the form of an outsider perspective, this which is able to move beyond the immediate scar tissue (Beckett, 2001; 47), having been unencumbered by loyalties to a particular narrative or political sympathy. An outsider perspective can reveal new perspectives this being the aim of trauma cinema. In this way an outsider perspective can be an asset, it being able to engage in multiples sides to a conflict, with disregard to politicised narratives which hinder from progress. Through this type of cinematic experience, a traumatised individual is allowed to critically work through an experience of trauma, this process facilitated by the insight of the filmmaker who operates from a position without from the situation of ... Christianity vs. Entrapment in O Connor Wise Blood Essay Christianity vs. Entrapment in O Connor s Wise Blood In The Cage of Matter: The World as Zoo in Flannery O Connor s Wise Blood, William Rodney Allen addresses the reverse evolution of Enoch Emery and the inverted quest for salvation of Hazel Motes, suggesting a parallel between the two main characters of O Connor s novel which reinforces its theme of the utter hopelessness of those who reject or mock Christ. Allen shows that O Connor describes the spiritually devoid characters in her book in animal like terms, equating faithless humans with soulless animals. The essay further asserts that O Connor uses the zoo as a metaphor for a physical world that entraps those without spirituality. Indeed, the novel shows a world of ... Likewise, his transformation into a gorilla fails to deliver him from his entrapment; as Allen says, The human animal has come to the limit of his freedom, and he symbolically finds himself alone in his cage (268). Throughout most of the novel, Hazel remains similarly trapped. Allen points out several symbolic traps that Hazel encounters, from his berth in the train to, paradoxically, his car, which Hazel erroneously regards as the way to freedom (262 63). As Allen points out, neither the new jesus, Asa Hawks, his own blasphemous Church of Christ without Christ, nor his car can help him escape from the prison of himself (267). O Connor s position is that a way exists for man to escape the prison of the mundane physical world, but it is not of self will and has nothing to do with material possessions. This position is in contrast to those of many O Connor contemporaries; Jack Kerouac, for instance, made a career of celebrating the joys of the physical world, most notably in his novel On the Road, which portrays the automobile as a quick ticket to freedom. Other American novelists, such as F. Scott Fitzgerald in The Great Gatsby and Ernest Hemingway in The Sun Also Rises, decried the spiritual wasteland they saw the world as but offered little hope for escape from it. ... I really like the exercises that we do in class because they help you create a better character for scenes. My final performance went really well; I was really nervous to perform in front of the class because I thought they wouldn t like the scene but after performing I got great compliments. I forgot some lines, but I didn t let it show so I had to stall so I could remember my lines and finish the scene. I had a really great partner, we both contributed to making this great scene we both traded off doing the work like blocking the scene and writing the script to have a complete version. When performing and creating the script I thought of phrases from the reading to help me through the scene like: listening to my partner, knowing my lines, creating a character, and blocking. I think they really help us create a great scene. We rehearsed a lot so we can could do great for the final we both worked really hard to perform the scene. The Hollow Hope By Gerald Rosenberg Essay Throughout the 20th century the medium of music has allowed for artists to convey their thoughts and feelings on important political topic facing the nation at the time. The power from these songs derives itself from its ability to create a relationship between the listener and the artist and allow for the message to transcend social barriers. A more recent instance of an artist using his music to connect important social issues with a wider audience, is rapper Frank Ocean. Ocean revealed to his fans and the world that he was a homosexual. This admission sent shockwaves throughout the rap community, one that has been marred with constant criticism of perpetuating homophobia and extreme male ego. His groundbreaking 2012 album, Channel Orange, allowed for many people to no longer be afraid of their sexuality and it is something that should be embraced. Rewarding Students By Providing Feedback Rewarding students by providing them with feedback is important to not only help them improve, but also to provide them with the knowledge that they are doing things right. Not all feedback has to focus on the negative. It is equally important to share with others areas they succeed in. this will boost morale and leave them to feel more confident in their work. Feedback is critical to anyone no matter the type of environment they are working in. Individual and groups can both benefit from feedback. Leaders that provide feedback are providing followers with resources they may need. Transformational leaders also work to provide followers with what they need. Women tend to be more transformational and some would think this would make women leadership more appealing, but I believe it can be difficult for others to perceive a woman as charismatic and therefore unable to lead in high positions. If it is difficult for a woman to connect with specific followers they may not be able to get their vision through to their followers making it impossible to inspire others to jump on board with certain actions that are taken. • 25. Corporate Tax Rate In America 1. One of the major issues we are facing in the US economy is how much we should charge in regards to the corporate tax rate. Corporate tax rate is imposed by the government and determines how much a corporate business will pay in taxes at the end of the year. Trump plans on decreasing the corporate tax rate from 35% to 15%. Out of the 34 countries in the OECD, America ranks first with a 39.1 percent corporate tax rate, compared to an OECD average of 24.1 percent. Along with trump, I think that we should reconsider the corporate tax rate. If we were to lower the rate than companies would have more money to spend and put back into our economy. Although I agree with Trump, there are several factors that affect this decision and there are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fiscal policy that I suggest we use to address the problem is graduated corporate income. We should not determine the corporate tax rate as one concrete number. We should decide the rate based on how big the company is. The policy will state that the first $50,000 of a corporation s profit is taxed at a 15% and will cap out at 35% for companies that make more than $335,000. Using this policy will make it so more small businesses will grow because they will not be taxed as much as a large company that can actually afford it. 5. The monetary policy I suggest we use is to increase the money supply and lower the cost of borrowing. I believe that this will affect how we calculate the corporate tax rate because if a company has an easier time getting a loan, and if they have access to more money, we can make the tax rate higher because they will have more money. The money that we get from taxing these corporations should be put back into the economy by the government. If we were to keep the tax rates higher we can use the extra money and put it into things such as; the building of roads, education, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More over by visiting the temple he would be making his Egyptian subjects happy. Arrian further states that other accounts say that Alexander went to the temple so that he could gain Ammon s approval before founding Alexandria. This would seem plausible since, although there is question whether or not Alexander believed that he was of divine descent, it cannot be doubted that he took worship of the gods very seriously. And he would most certainly want a god of Ammon s statures approval on something as important as the founding of Alexandria. Later Arrian states that when Alexander arrived at the temple, the priest answered the question of his divinity by greeting him as son of Ammon . This is, by Arrian s wording, what his heart desired . This would once again indicate that both he and others around him did truly believe that he was of divine descent. To provide water, they dug irrigation ditches that carried river water to the fields, and allowed them to provide a surplus of crops. To defend the city/village, they built city walls with mud bricks. Then they traded with the people of the mountains and the desert for the products they lacked. They would trade their grain, cloth, and crafted tools for the stone, wood, and metal they needed to make tools and buildings. Throughout his writing he developed the use of the cadenza, highlighting the performer s talent with a virtuosic passage. Not all Mozart s cadenzas have survived therefore future composers have attempted to recreate these passages, often reflecting the period in which they were written. Cadenza comes from the Latin Cadere , to fall and broadly means a flourish at the end of a single melodic line. In the Medieval period pieces contained flourishes to enhance their final cadences, though few were notated. This is the cadenza in its earliest form. In late seventeenth century opera the improvised cadenza was purely virtuosic notes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is in the first movement of C.P.E. Bach s Harpsichord Concerto in G major H475 below. Ex. 1: Obbligato cadenzas in C.P.E. Bach Harpsichord Concerto, H 475, First Movement. By the mid eighteenth century the cadenza had become an established element of the concerto, a tradition contributed to by the fact that the cadenza added drama, created contrast between the tutti and solo performer and created a conclusion. Most cadenzas were at a cadential six four, placed toward the final solo section of the movement as shown above. Mozart was an influential composer in the eighteenth century, composing many of his works for the pianoforte. Mozart s early cadenzas do not usually quote from the movement within which they were written. These generic cadenzas often consist of scales and arpeggios which, in theory, could be transferred for use in another concerto in similar tempo and key. This happens in the cadenza of the first movement of K. 238 in B flat major which is made of regular scales and consists of no real thematic material relating to the work. As the eighteenth century improvised cadenza began to develop, the passages became longer and more virtuosic. Mozart and Daniel Turk (1750 1813), notable composer, organist, scholar and peer of Quantz, both disagreed with this, believing that the new cadenzas were distracting from the work. ... The focus of the theory is how Robert Pickton became a serial killer due to the environment he grew up in and relationships. Pickton s parents ran a meat business in Port Coquitlam and Pickton alongside his brother helped them. Pickton s mother was tough and had the children work on a strict schedule. In addition, Pickton s father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence in why he murders women. Pickton was close to his mother and she also was a major authority figure in his life. Consequently, Pickton could have grown a hatred towards women due to his mother and is the reason he targets women. Enough hatred to ensure his victims suffer by raping and killing them Also, due to his mother making him work hard on the farm he had little to no childhood. Pickton did raise a calf and was very close to it, however, the calf was slaughtered. As a result, Pickton never forgot it and also said from CBC News, the incident made him realize life was fleeting. Additionally, Pickton is used to seeing things being killed and dying because he saw many animals being slaughtered when he was young. Death in his eyes has been normalized and is not an unusual occurrence. This is a key reason Pickton does not feel remorse for the killing of his victims because it is normal to him. Furthermore, Pickton was quiet and socially awkward, sometimes exhibiting unusual behaviour. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
