Propaganda In The Poisonwood Bible
35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy once said We must never forget that art
is not a form of propaganda; it is a form of truth (John). Though the art medium of writing, Barbara
Kingsolver sheds light on the toxic reality of propaganda and its effects. She does this through the
ostentatious character of Nathan Price, a religious zealot placed in Kilanga on a mission to spread
Christianity. He represents a poisoned mind, corrupted by the beliefs of his government. In Barbara
Kingsolver s The Poisonwood Bible, Nathan Price s despotic personality is the result of exposure to
American propaganda and government prior to his years in the Congo.

Unable to realistically view history and imperialism, Nathan believes the US to be the Congo s savior,
He believes that civilization comes to Africa only from without, from its colonizers who import their
superior cultures: The Belgians and American business brought civilization to the Congo! American
aid will be the Congo s salvation (Strehle 417). He attempts to civilize Kilanga himself but fails to
understand those that he is trying to change, much like imperialist America. Use to the effect that his
preaching had in a country in which he understood and accepted the culture, Nathan s ineffectiveness
in Kilanga leads him to the conclusion that the Congolese are the problem and not him, In the
distorted evolutionary logic of nineteenth century imperialism, Nathan considers Africa as
inadequately evolved, backward, primitive a childish culture dwarfed by its grown up Western
colonizers and thus in need of help from the advanced West. As Leah puts it, My father thinks the
Congo is just lagging behind and he can bring it up to snuff (Strehle 418). He refuses their way of life,
and believes that they all must assimilate to him and how he believed their society should

Ethical Dilemmas In Nursing Essay
A2 In the scenario, the physician s action violated the principles of non maleficence, beneficence and
autonomy. First off, the principle of non maleficence is violated as physicians should strive not to
harm patients. For case A2, the doctor allowed the patient s serious condition to worsen while
knowing that the disease is treatable, only for the sake of observing how the disease progresses. The
doctor blatantly places the patient in harm simply to fulfil his own curiosity and research progress,
rendering his actions considered to be violating the principles of non maleficence. Second, the doctor
also violated the principle of beneficence. As a doctor, we should do what is best for the health of the
patients, treating patients in the ways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start off, the doctor has violated the principle of autonomy as he ignored the woman s wishes
which are fully supported by her family. Having a sound mind and the ability to make decisions, the
patient should have her will respected by doctors. In the case, despite the fact that the patient s family
verbally told the doctor about the patient s will to go home, her decision is not respected by the doctor,
who kept her hospitalised until she dies. Autonomy means that the key decisions of a person s life
should be determined by the patient herself if possible. Given that in the case, the patient is already
terminally ill and in the end stage of life, her will to go home should be respected by the doctor,
rendering the doctor s action a violation of the principle of autonomy. Second, the principle of
beneficence is also violated. Beneficence means doing what is beneficial to the patient. This, however,
is not only limited to the promotion of good health, but also doing what the patient judges to be
beneficial. In the case, the patient deems that going home and die in her own bed, surrounded by her
family is more beneficial to her than having a few more weeks to live. The doctor, therefore, should do
what is considered best by the patient in this

Rabbit, Run
Rabbit, Run Rabbit, Run was published in 1960 by American author John Updike. He wrote three
more Rabbit novels, one at the end of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He says these novels became a running
report on the state of my hero and his nation. He won the Pulitzer Prize for the final two books. series
continued after Rabbit s death in Updike s 2001 novella, Rabbit Remembered. In 2006, The Rabbit

Alcohol is mostly presented as a destructive force; whenever the characters get near it, disaster on
small or large scale results. Cigarettes too are presented as mostly destructive, contributing subtly and
not so subtly to the smokers problems. Though at one moment a cigarette is seen as a wafer of
repentance. So go steal the keys to the liquor cabinet and oh, you know Shmoop s just kidding!
Rabbit, Run Theme of Guilt and Blame Rabbit, Run is a guilt and blame fest. This starts at the
beginning of the novel when the main character, Harry Rabbit Angstrom, runs away from his pregnant
wife and his son. But when newborn Rebecca June Angstrom drowns in a bathtub, things get messy.
Rabbit s wife Janice admits she drowned the baby while drunk. Yet Rabbit is a prime suspect,
especially to himself. He is a suspect precisely because he was not there when the baby died. All of the
other characters in the novel are suspects too everybody simultaneously feels guilty and wants to
blame others. Even the novel s setting, America of 1959, is a suspect. Rabbit, Run Theme of
Transience Rabbit, Run s main character Harry Rabbit Angstrom is in a perpetual state of transience.

Charlie And Henry Differences
Charlie and Henry were the same people, stuck in the same time, but stuck in different bodies with
few differences. In paragraph two, I ll be going over the differences between Charlie and Henry. The
third and fourth will be comparing the two. Charlie and Henry were very similar and very different in
their own ways.
Charlie and Henry were both sort of...different. They were from two completely different states,
Charlie in Minnesota and Henry in Ohio. Henry was one of the more mature ones from the group.
Henry was actually legal age to join the war, but Charlie was only a 15 year old boy trying to provide
for his family. Henry got off easy with his injury, Henry was hit upside the head with a gun, while
Charley took a bullet. The contrasts of

The Transportation Industry
INTRODUCTION
Fraud is a pervasive and omnipresent threat in the modern business environment. While the controls to
help mitigate the risk have become increasingly sophisticated, so too have the methods in which
employees, managers and even third parties defraud victim entities. While some industries seem more
at risk than others it is important to recognize the vulnerability that is common to all of them. One
industry that seems to be able to avoid the worst of fraudulent acts is the Transportation Industry.
Through use of time tested control methods and avant garde procedures to help mitigate business risk,
the industry is able to consistently place ahead of others in rates of fraud occurrences.

An example is an airlines heavy reliance on real time systems to book flights, manage flights, and
make sure planes aren t flying into each other in mid air (McMahon, 2014).
The airline industry has recently been focusing inwardly on revenue growth, yield management, and
balance sheet strength. The permanent threat of terrorism creates an element of uncertainty when it
comes to an airline company s operations. There are significant challenges to implement effective
security and risk management systems. Large investments in required infrastructures are correlated to
these challenges (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). There is also a strong demand for public transport
recently as a result of environmental awareness and congestion. Railroads have difficulty meeting this
demand because of a limited infrastructure capacity. This public transport competes with roads for
investment funds and many planning processes for railroad projects take a long time to deliver
(PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). The shipping subsector contributes an extreme amount to global
transportation and logistics. It has been historically cyclical with volatility in vessel values,
shareholder returns, and freight rates. The international economic and political environment also has a
large effect on shipping. The business environment is challenging with a few specifics risks. Risks

Music, Violence, and Identity in Anthony Burgess’A...
Music, Violence, and Identity in Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange
Linking the fundamental conflict between individual identity and societal identity with musical
imagery in Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange creates a lens through which one can recognize the
tendency that violence has to destroy an individual s identity. Although Alex clearly associates
violence with his own individual identity and sense of self, he consistently reveals the impossibility of
remaining an individual in the face of group oriented violence. Images drawn from the realm of music
parallel the destruction of Alex s identity, either through conformity to a group s style of violence or
through failure to embrace the homogeneity of group actions ... Show more content on

But the development of Beethoven s symphony soon puts a different interpretation on what appears, at
first glance, to be Alex s individual act of violence. After the solo bass intones an introduction, soloists
and then a full chorus and orchestra join the soloist, unified in singing the same poem. What initially
seems like an individual remaining separate from a group does not remain so for very long. As other
soloists join the solo bass, the singers declare that Men throughout the world are brothers/ In the haven
of thy [joy s] wings. 2 If Alex truly does believe his violent act to be joyful, then the joy of violence
blinds men throughout the world in a brotherhood. The image of the tigers (plural) leaping up inside
Alex, also representing the group character of his act, reinforces the binding nature of violence. Alex s
supposedly individual act gets absorbed into a universal brotherhood.
The nature of the orchestral music chosen to accompany particular stages of Alex s narrative further
underlines the process by which violence causes the diminishment of individual identity, by
compelling obedience to a group. When Alex fancies this new violin concerto by the American
Geoffrey Plautus (32), he envisions vecks and ptitsas, both young and starry, lying on the ground
screaming for mercy, and I was smecking all over my rot and grinding my boot in their listos (33).
Although a violin concerto might suggest

Swiss Family Johann Davis Wyss
Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a child in the way he should go . In The Swiss Family
Robinson , Johann Davis Wyss tells the story of a family shipwrecked on an uninhabited
Island. The Robinson family was in a unique situation where they could either fail or flourish.
Not only did they flourish, but the parents, especially the father, used every obstacle and every day as
an opportunity to teach their four sons to become proper, godly men. Wyss does not simply tell a tale
of adventure, but teaches lessons to the readers just as the Robinson father did with his sons. All
people, especially children, are in need of admonition. With guidance from their parents, the boys
became more obedient, diligent and wise men in each passing chapter. ... Show more content on

When on the island, they thanked God for the provisions that existed on the island. God was the
cornerstone of their lives. The father led them in prayer every morning before working, and every
night before sleeping. Throughout their excursions the father taught the boys parables when applicable
to circumstances such as the story of Cain and Able. While out in his
cajack , a storm rolled in and the family did not know what became of Fritz. Mother put her trust in
Him who alone can comfort (273). When Fritz is found, he is grateful for all God did for him. At the
beginning of the story Fritz only seemed impressed with his own designs, now he thanks the Lord
without priding himself his own abilities.
When one of the boys brought home his bounty with an air of pride the other boys became jealous.
The father chided the boy to not be boastful and reminded the other boys of the importance of their
work. Later, when Fritz brings back a fantastic bird the boys cheered Bravo!
Bravo! (286). In the beginning, the boys beat and killed many animals without putting a second

Essay On Mozart Effect
The Mozart Effect, broadly stated, is the idea that music can help with many other aspects of a student
s education. Its research started decades ago and is still highly debated today, with some condition to
the findings. However, in Bob Duke s article, he explains why it doesn t matter whether of not it helps
tests scores. He believes we should not be using this as an excuse for keeping music programs because
there are countless better reasons. Duke s article highly reinforced why I personally believe music
education is so important and why I can t wait to be a part of it.
The Mozart Effect theory first started with research based on the effect of music on the brain. One of
the first to test this was Gordon Shaw and his student Xiaodan ... Show more content on

The first study was done to replicate Shaw s method by testing how music affected two spatial tasks.
In this study, those who listened to Mozart had a higher average test score. As for the other study, they
measured brain wave activity within college students two times, one time after they listened to a
Mozart sonata and once after listening to no music. Lerch and Dr. Anderson stated that The EEG
recordings were somewhat correlated with the students performance, as increased brain activity was
associated with an increase in spatial reasoning performance after listening to the Mozart .
After this research, the book The Mozart Effect: Tapping the Power of Music to Heal the Body,
Strengthen the Mind and Unlock the Creative Spirt was written by Don Campbell in 2002. According
to Donna Lerch and Dr. Thomas Anderson of The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, his
book claimed that listening to the music of Mozart could raise your intelligence quotient.
As for Bob Duke s article, he discussed why we shouldn t base the whole reasoning for keeping music
education on tests scores. Even if music may help raise tests scores or make students smarted, we
should not be defending it in this way. Duke explains that if we continue to do this, we are basing the
whole future of music education on test scores.
In both Duke and I s opinions, there are so many other amazing reasons why we should continue
music education, not just because it has the potential to make

Low-Fiber Diets
Introduction
Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. A low fiber diet restricts fibrous foods that are
not digested in the small intestine. A diet is considered to be low fiber if it contains about 10 15 grams
of fiber a day. In general, a low fiber food will have fewer than 2 grams of fiber per serving. Low fiber
diets may be used to:
Promote healing and rest the bowel during intestinal flare ups.
Prevent blockage of a partially blocked or narrowed gastrointestinal tract.
Reduce fecal weight and volume.
Slow bowel movements.
You may be on a low fiber diet as a transitional diet following surgery, after an injury, or because of a

Pros And Cons Of Alabama s Lottery System
Alabama is one of seven states that does not have a lottery system. Because of this, Alabama is
missing out on millions of dollars per year. In fact, lottery systems generated $65.5 billion dollars in
2012, twenty five of which goes directly to state funded projects (Isidore). That is an average of over a
billion and a half dollars in revenue per state per year. If Alabama did approve a lottery system, the
money it generated would go to education and healthcare. Alabama ranks forty fifth and forty sixth in
these two areas respectively out of fifty states.
Alabama does not have a lottery system because of religious reasons. Forming a lottery is actually
illegal in the constitution of three states: Utah, Mississippi, and Alabama. Article IV §65 of the

As mentioned before, Alabama s constitution outlaws the founding of a state lottery system or
gambling of any kind. Propositions of a lottery bill have been created many times in the past.
Originally these bills were shot down immediately and never even made it to be voted on. Recently,
however, these bills have become increasingly more popular. In 1999, a bill was created by then
governor Don Siegelman that did reach voting, and narrowly was turned down by a vote of 54 percent
to 46 percent. A lottery bill was not on the 2016 ballot, but could be on the 2017 ballot. Governor
Robert Bentley, who had previously been strongly opposed to a lottery bill, has seemed to have had a
change of heart, saying the only way that the state can gain the much needed money for Medicaid
would be through a state lottery program. With the Governor s support now, a lottery bill could be on
the ballot as soon as next year, which means that the lottery system could be implemented by spring of

What We Talking About When We Talk About Love By Raymond...
Love can be defined in many ways, but does anyone know the true meaning of it? In Raymond Carver
s short story What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, he shows us the realism behind the true
meaning of love with a menacing tone. This story particularly shows how different people may have
different definitions of it that reflect who they are as a person by using strangle dialogue given by the
characters and situations that reveal symbolic items. From the ironic remarks and slight rebuttals in
this story, one could infer that the topic of love can bring the worst out of people. Through this story,
Carver shows love through the lives of his characters, suggesting that each love is different, and all
people have different views on it.
In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost all of Carver s stories have characters that have been through disturbing or weird events and is
brought up by the symbolism used in his work.
The symbolism in this story happens several times, mainly with the role of sunlight. Sunlight in this
story represents the good and clarity in the room and conversation. At the beginning of the story, the
light filled the kitchen from the big window behind the sink, and this shows how calm and happy the
setting was before they talked about love (Carver 334). Any time the sunlight is mentioned, the
characters are happy and are full of comfort. As the story progresses, and as the characters continue to
talk about love, the light slowly leaves the room as a sense of all the innocent of the conversation
fading away until the room was fully dark. Even though the sunlight is a major symbol, alcohol is also
one. Carver uses alcohol to brighten the flexibility of conversation. When the bottle of gin is full the
conversation is flowing but at the end when Mel spills his glass, it shows the end of the conversation.
This is important as it shows an example of Carver using alcohol as a rhythmic device. It also shows
the thought of Mel and Terri having difficulty mentioning past relationships without the help of
alcohol, using the alcohol to hide their true feelings. The gin could

on his journey to inner peace. First, he decides to live his life as a Samana. Later he abandons that life
in return for a life as a rich man. In the end he decides that his rich life is unsatisfying and he begins

Siddhartha decides the way to obtain peace is by living like a Samana.

The Lottery Summary
In the story The Lottery , it s tradition, every year on June 27th to have the head of each household
choose a slip of paper from the black box. The family whose head of household chooses the coal
marked slip of paper picks again. The person in the houshold who picks the paper with the coal mark
is stoned to death by everyone in the village. As I read the story I examined the characters and how
they felt about this tradition. At the start of the story, the author, Shirley Jackson, explains how the
people in the village prepared for the lottery and how people gathered to the town square for the event.
At this point none of the characters acted like something horrible was about to happen. They were
casual. Then the author went on to explain how the lottery worked, leaving out details about the prize.
While also advancing the plot to the lottery s commencement. As the story moved forward the mood
got more tense and suspenseful. While names were being called Jackson explained how the villagers
started to get more nervous while choosing out of the box. It seems like they were trying to hide how
anxious they were actually feeling. After everyone had chosen, it was the Hutchinsons. They had to
pick again. Tessie Hutchinson chose the coal marked paper. She started to object the tradition, once it
was her who was going to die that day due to the lottery. In lines 15 21, the story explains how the
children start collecting rocks, for what we dont know, the lottery. The author does not make it clear to
us that someone is going to die. The characters act like this is a normal thing. Another example, lines
25 37. No one is having second thoughts or protesting.
They are assembling in the town square. Soon the men began to gather... speaking of planting and
rain, tractors and taxes. There are normal conversations among the villagers being held. Mrs.
Hutchinson ends up being late, she walks in very calmly. She even makes a joke, Wouldn t have me
leave m dishes in the sink, now, would you, Joe. The mystery of what this lottery really is persists
throughout the story. As the story continued, you can tell that there s something odd about this lottery.
most of them were quiet, wetting their lips, not looking around. .

Women Were Working In Factories Dbq Essay
Women who were working in factories were severely impacted socially and economically during the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Young women were found to dominate the silk and textile
factories, however, they did not receive the same pay as men. The chart referencing gender and age of
silk factory workers in five English Towns in 1833 reveals that 63 to 96% of the workers were female,
which of those were 35 to 53% under the age of 16. (Document A). The chart referencing gender and
age of silk factories in Nagano, Japan in 1901 show that 12,519 females worked in 205 mills, which
was 92% of the population. The ages of the female workers reveal that 18% were 14 and under, 48%

given many working hours, they look out for the best of their workers. By employing single women
for the majority, they give the opportunity for women to leave the industry once wedded, claiming
factory work would only be temporary for them. As many of the females are young, the government
believes that they are able to handle long lasting working hours because it is only a temporary job,
compared to workers in the West (Document F). The Meiji Government intended its audience to be
everyone; to show that the government has good intentions for the female worker, and provides better
care of them than in the West. However, Sakura Takuji recalls her life differently as a mill girl. Not
only were girls stuck with famine and disease, there were guidelines and punishments that proceeded
during work, as well as sexual abuse from low ranking supervisors who believed the women were
easy targets as they were young and

Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
Poetry is a form of literature that is expressive and can sometimes communicate a message more
effectively than prose. It can be filled with literary elements and vivid language that can help poets
relay their message to the readers. What is fascinating about poetry, is that each poem can relate to a
person in multiple ways. In the poems Harlem and Weary Blues Langston Hughes uses language that
effectively communicates the overall themes of both poems and relates to the African American
experience at the time. The literary elements used in Harlem help Langston Hughes effectively
communicate the overall theme of dreams and its relation to the African American experience. The
poem Harlem is about a deferred dream and what happens to ... Show more content on

The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to portray
his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and allows for Hughes
message to effectively be conveyed. In line 10 Hughes writes, He made the poor piano moan with
melody. The usage of personification in this line gives the piano human characteristics and readers can
understand that the music the African American is playing is melancholy. The dramatic personification
clearly sets the mood of the poem. Line 10 is a metaphor as well, describing the piano as a poor piano
which helps create an image for the reader. From the poem and its expressive language, readers find
out that the man is singing the blues, which is known to be a sad and depressing genre. Throughout the
poem, the black man is singing about his life and how it s filled with loneliness, troubles, and
unhappiness. This was probably a common feeling throughout many African Americans at the time
due to social restrictions and their suppressed lives. In line 35 Hughes writes, He slept like a rock or a
man that s dead. The powerful simile here ends the poem in an effective way. He slept like a rock
shows that the man s sleep was so deep and or man that s dead shows that it was as if he weren t even
alive. In line 30 the man sings,

Most Dangerous Game Outline
Simile: A figure of speech that makes a comparison between two things, using like or as.
Example: An apprehensive night crawled slowly by like a wounded snake, and sleep did not visit
Rainsford, although the silence of a dead world was on the jungle.
The Most Dangerous Game, page 32
Function:
Context Rainsford is hiding from General Zaroff in the forest of Ship Trap Island. After running
around in the forest and trying to make an untraceable trail, Rainsford finally rests high up in a tree.He
tells himself that Zaroff will never find him, but in the back of his mind he worries about being found
and killed. This makes Rainsford to feel like the night was going by very slowly and this worry kept
Rainsford up for a long time. The stress from the Most Dangerous Game is getting to Rainsford s
head. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The night is described as apprehensive , which means fearful of something bad happening. The night
is further compared to a wounded snake, because like any wounded animal, it would move very
slowly and painfully. The author is describing the night like this, to compare it to how Rainsford is
feeling while he is hiding in the forest. Rainsford is very apprehensive himself, because he fears
Zaroff will find him and kill him. Even so zealous a hunter as General Zaroff could not trace him
there, he told himself; only the devil himself could follow that complicated trail through the jungle
after dark. But, perhaps the general was a devil (pg.32). The night and a wounded snake are compared
by using a simile, because a wounded snake moves slow and the night is moving slow for Rainsford.
Rainsford feels like the night is so long, because he cannot fall asleep and all he can do is worry about
his life. This quote is an example of simile, because it is comparing the night to a snake, which gives
the reader a better understanding of what the author is trying to get

Aesthetic Analysis
Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy that asks questions about the nature of art and beauty. The
Classical definition of art is the good, the true, the beautiful. Art equals something that is beautiful
then it is true and leads the person experiencing it, to the good. While this may be the classical
definition of art it is not quite accurate. To think that something is true and good just because it is
beautiful is not right. There are three critiques of this definition which define art in a different light.
Leo Tolstoy defines one as romantic art; The essence of a work of art is the emotion it causes to an
audience. It makes everyone feel as one because they are all feeling the same emotion. Malcolm
Bradbury defines modern art as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You have to listen to the meaning behind the note. As with John Coltrane s A Love Supreme he wrote
this song with four parts to it describing a religious experience he went through fighting drug
addiction. The first part Acknowledgement the start of the saxophone is like a deep breath, the beats of
the piano and drums start creating a feeling of almost tranquility in knowing love exists and there is
hope. The next part Resolution starts out quiet and faint, then a loud saxophone blares and the drums
and piano all come in at the same time almost chaotically. This showing the struggle in his head most
likely when he was going through withdraws and was having a rough time staying committed. The
third part pursuance the drums start and increase more rapidly, and more rapidly simulating a person
running, chasing the love supreme he is looking for. The final part Psalm has the slower, calmer
sounds of the saxophone and piano creating a sense of calm and happiness like he has accomplished
his goal in overcoming his addictions and he is praising! Just these simple note to this song if one didn

A Comparison of the Representation of the Future of The Matrix and Planet of the Apes Sci fi films
were born in the aftermath of the industrial and scientific revolutions of the 19th century. The first
motion picture from this genre was Le Voyage Dans La Lune , a Georges Meties production from
1902. This is regarded as the first sci fi film; the one that set the standard for the genre and to what
most of the future sci fi movies would aspire to in someway. Le Voyage includes astronauts,

In The Matrix, we see the direct reality of this. The world as we know it is being controlled by a
higher power, of which we are ignorant. In this case, the higher power is science and technology that
has conquered and almost obliterated mankind as a result of mankind abusing its powers. Man grew
too big for its boots. In comparison, POTA shows the results and aftermath of this, it s what the real
world in The Matrix (the real world that is within the story of The Matrix) would be 3000 years into
the future if you like. Mankind has destroyed itself, all the scientific and technological development
has caused civilisation to go backwards, possibly as a result of it falling into the wrong hands.
To show the common ethos of The Matrix and POTA, the two films should be compared to another
couple of films from within the genre, to clearly show their similarity and affinity to the genre.
Things To Come (William Cameron Menzies, 1936) was the first million pound British film, based on
a HG Wells novel, and a milestone in the sci fi genre. The film is set 10 years into the future, 1946,
and a thirty year war begins which leaves the world half dead from disease and shell shock. In its
place a new order rises, governed by one technocratic regime. There are obvious connections to both
films, most notably to POTA. We don t know what caused the

Abstract: This review will consider the reasons why African American students are often referred for
disciplinary action in comparison to their Caucasian peers as well as the disproportionate academic
achievement gap faced by minority students and students in poverty in comparison to their Caucasian
peers. This article will also discuss the impact of trauma from racial stigma on learning and behavior,
and serve to primarily provide immediate solutions to educators and stakeholders where African
American children can thrive both academically and socially through culturally reflective instructional

The Pharmacy Is Not Only A Source Of Medications But Of...
The pharmacy is not only a source of medications but of education and technology use.
The pharmacy plays a crucial role in the hospital because without it, physicians and nurses wouldn t
be able to treat their patients effectively.
The pharmacy is essential to the treatment of disease, since the pharmacy is the site where both
intravenous and pill medications such as chemotherapy and antibiotics are made and dispensed
according to what patient needs. At the hospital, the pharmacy takes care of both inpatients and
outpatients for both prescriptions and over the counter medications. Those who work at the pharmacy
also educated patients and healthcare workers about the side effects of medications, which
medications can be mixed and, especially for stronger medications, the known risks of taking them.
These educational measures are performed to prevent overdose, the inappropriate use of medications,
such as antibiotics, and to give the patients as to what is normal and to be expected from taking a
medication and what symptoms should raise a cause of concern. One way this duty is performed is by
rounds. A round is where the pharmacist along with other doctors such as a dietitian, social worker,
physical therapist, speech therapist, the attending nurse, and the primary physician, as well as any
other specialist whose expertise may be in need, get together to discuss a group of patients and what is
being done about their care and how it can be improved. Anyone

Human Trafficking Is A Crime Against Humanity
I was brought here a few years ago, I lived in the streets at that time. A man took me to Daulatdia, the
biggest brothel in Bangladesh. He sold me to the owners, who kept me in a room and gave me drugs.
Then, a man suddenly came in and started taking off my clothes. I was so scared, I didn t understand
what was happening (Halima, 17). Halima was brought into the world of sex trafficking as a child and
now lives in a brothel in central Jessore, the last town before the border into India from Bangladesh.
Human trafficking is a crime against humanity and although all forms of slavery were completely
abolished in 1981, for the last 35 years on average 800,000 to 4 million people are exploited annually
(CNN.com). This phenomenon affects every country whether it be place of origin, transit or
destination; and it is more prominent in developing countries and eastern Asia. The United Nations
Refugee Agency claims that Bangladeshis made up 40 to 60 percent of the migrant traffic in 2015.
Human trafficking in Bangladesh exploits men, women and children into forced sexual acts and labor
and keeps victims in captivity. Human trafficking violates basic human rights such as the right to
freedom, equality, security, health and most importantly protection from slavery or servitude. The
absence of these basic human rights leads to anguish, a lost sense of security and a loss of identity
which alters the quality of life for an individual. To minimize trafficking in Bangladesh the

What Is Alan Turing s Speech On The 150th Anniversary Of...
In the speech given by Woodrow Wilson on the 150th anniversary of Princeton University, what was
to become the unofficial motto, Princeton in the Nation s Service and in the Service of All Nations,
was first recited. In that address, Wilson concluded that our most important contributions to society s
well being depend on the continued pursuit of fundamental truths and basic research. I believe he was
saying that while it is imperative that we remain aware of the needs and demands of our own circle of
influence and generation, truly meaningful service to society comes through our passion for
knowledge and the desire to advance mankind. Alan Turing who was a 1938 graduate of Princeton
University, Computer Scientist and Cryptanalyst and Father of Artificial Intelligence embodied this
motto. Alan Turing was a mathematical genius and inspirational visionary, famous today for his code
breaking work during World War II that saved the allies from the Nazis. His study of mathematical
logic eventually led to the birth of the field of computer science. Although Alan Turing undeniably
changed the world for the better during a time when the world was at great risk, his academic work
was not purposely responding to concerns of the day. His inspiration was a ... Show more content on

The Venezuelan Revolution
This will be as much a tale about the Venezuelan people as it is about a returning immigrant who
knows his homeland largely from memories and media. Though my experiences have shaped my
outlook, my intention is to enter the country as a neutral and impartial writer, cognizant of daily life,
yet oblivious to the fiery political discourse which consumes too many discussions.
This project s purpose is to record a people who have lived through the promises and outcomes of the
Bolivarian Revolution, an idea that captured Venezuela s spirit and spread across 16 Latin America
nations as the Pink Tide. The poor and working class will be a fundamental component of this story as
I investigate the role the revolution has played in shaping the lives of this perpetually overlooked
group of people. Simultaneously, the nature of these issues will create a portal into the world of
Venezuelan heritage, traditions, and political and civic culture. What I write will be the reality of the
situation; the interpretation will be left up to the reader.
On the ground reporting will be supplemented by insightful research and substantial use of public
outlets, expert opinions, conversations with civic figures and affected citizens, and other sources

Dysfunctional Family Systems and Disordered Self-Image
Dysfunctional Family Systems and Disordered Self Image Abstract: Disordered self image, sense of
self, and self esteem are affected negatively by dysfunctional family systems. Maladaptive
perfectionism affects mood, causes decreased self esteem, and contributes to the development of
avoidance tactics. Adolescent dysregulations includes disordered eating behaviors and/or eating
disorders, anxiety, depression, body dissatisfaction, and extreme attempts at weight control; all of
which can be caused by child sexual abuse, maladaptive perfectionism, parental attachment issues,
and the development of alexithymia. Other dysregulations include faulty coping mechanisms, which
are also affected by anxiety, depression, and neuroticism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indicators of dysregulation include emotional reactivity, or an excess of emotional lability because of
frequent mood swings; and psychological splitting, or an inability to view others with both their good
and bad aspects. Perfectionism, whether adaptive or maladaptive, is linked to the quality of the parent
child relationship (Aldea Rice 2006). Significant maladaptive perfectionism can be seen in an
individual who has suffered child sexual abuse and has developed an eating disorder or displayed
disordered eating behavior. Oftentimes, the individual identifies himself, in various ways, as not good
enough, including his view of his physical self and his view of his emotional self, causing him to
develop disordered eating behaviors or clinical eating disorders. A positive correlation between child
sexual abuse and disordered eating behaviors has been identified, as has a positive correlation between
child sexual abuse and having a diagnosis of a clinical eating disorder. Child sexual abuse has been
associated with the increase in displaying disordered eating behaviors and/or symptoms. Abuse
experiences contribute to a woman s development of bulimia, possibly because the woman is utilizing
bulimia as a coping mechanism and an attempt to manage the emotional fallout from the abuse. Abuse

Experimental Study About Rc Based Rfid Tracking System For...
Simulation enables researchers to construct models to understand and evaluate current systems and
alternatives for applying new processes or improving current processes in various areas (Greasley,
2004; Ingalls, 2008; Iqbal et al., 2012). The simulation method has been adopted in various industries
such as airline, port operation, banking, service, food and transportation (Robinson, 2004; Kotachi et
al., 2013). Although simulation raises quality concerns and does not provide absolute answers,
simulation is flexible to design simple and complex processes (Chung, 2003; Kotachi et al., 2013).
Researchers used different approaches to simulate returnable container (RC) models such as agent
approach, regression approach and discrete event simulation approach. Apparwal (2014) used agent
based system approach to study about RC based RFID tracking system for logistic services provider.
Kim et al. (2014) used regression simulation model to study about RC for perishable products under
stochastic return times.

This experimental study aims to execute model which displays RC system of a company in Thailand

Summary Of Id, Ego, And Superego In Fablehaven
The book series Fablehaven accurately portrays the three parts of the psychic apparatus, id, ego, and
superego, created by Sigmund Freud amongst the three main characters. Kendra, the first main
character introduced, represents the ego because at times she must determine to follow the rules and
play it safe or break the rules to help her family. Seth, the second main character introduced,
represents the id as he constantly acts on his own impulses without any regard to the rules which
usually lands him in trouble. The last main character introduced, Grandpa, represents the superego
since he always follow the rules of the preserve, as well as teaching them to Kendra and Seth, to
ensure the safety of them all from the fable creatures. Kendra, Seth, and Grandpa create perfect
examples of Sigmund Freud s id, ego, and superego.
Kendra, the first character revealed to the reader, demonstrates the psychic apparatus the ego by
representing the reason in situations that commonly occur between the Id and the Superego. The ego
must make a choice between listening to the id or following the superego. Depending on the situation,
if the ego sides with the id the superego can make the ego feel guilty. In the story Kendra, after
weighing the odds and letting her personal id get the better of her, decides to follow Seth into the
woods even though it stands against their grandfather s will. Upon the return of their sneaky adventure
they think that they made it back without anyone noticing they left; however, that night at dinner their
grandfather openly asks What do you suppose makes people so eager to break rules? (pg.59). Which
in turn made Kendra feel guilty. Kendra felt a jolt of guilt (pg.59). In Contrast, Kendra could also
represent the superego in place of the grandparents because she mostly follows the rules without
thoughts of breaking them. Unlike her little brother, Kendra was not a natural rule breaker (pg.53) and
If you don t get back in bed, warned Kendra, I m telling grandpa in the morning. (pg.167) represent
great supporting quotes from the text to offer significant support that Kendra could represent the
superego as well. With Kendras main personalities being her ego and superego it shows how rare

Prostitution Is Morally Wrong And Should Be Eradicated...
Prostitution
Prostitution is morally wrong and should be eradicated from society for several different reasons.
In prostitution, men remove women s humanity. Buying a woman in prostitution gives men the power
to turn women into a living breathing masturbation fantasy. He removes her and those qualities that
define her as an individual, and for him she becomes sexualized body parts. She acts the part of the
thing he wants her to be. As shocking as these men s observations may sound to those who think
prostitution is like the movie Pretty Woman, their descriptions closely match women s descriptions of
prostitution. The women explain to us how it feels to be treated like a rented organ. It is internally
damaging. You become in your own mind what these people do and say with you. You wonder how
could you let yourself do this and why do these people want to do this to you.
Mothers who sell sex for a living face a whole different style of life work balance. From dealing with
judgmental teachers to faking orgasms before the kids get home from school, it is one of the

they live; wish is morally wrong. As a child, it is sad to see your mom work as a prostitute. you start to

Examples Of Racism In The Passing Of Grandison
The famous author Chesnutt presents The Passing of Grandison to demonstrate that racism destroys
the intelligence of southern white men. He does this to express his conception of the negativity
revolved around racism. Chesnutt s novella The Sheriffs Children relates to The Passing of Grandison
by presenting a southern white man having a mixed child and the lack of education for most racist
southern white men. Chesnutt presents racism in The Sheriffs Children by exhibiting the quickness of
the town to lynch the black man for supposedly murdering a respected white citizen. Chesnutt also
presents racism in The Passing of Grandison by demonstrating the master s degrading acts towards
Grandison by surmising his caliber of education as nonexistent. He utilizes these two examples to
emphasize racism clouding the southern white men s intelligence. Chesnutt also presents sex between
slave owners and slaves in both short stories as degrading because of the white slave owners view of
slaves as property. Chesnutt demonstrates the shamefulness of raping a slave to reveal primitive
forcefulness of sex and lack of respect the southern white men had for African Americans. Chesnutt
reveals the hatred it would take for a father to sell his own child. Chesnutt presents these events to
reveal a southern white slave owners action as negative because the injustice the African Americans

  • 2. Propaganda In The Poisonwood Bible 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy once said We must never forget that art is not a form of propaganda; it is a form of truth (John). Though the art medium of writing, Barbara Kingsolver sheds light on the toxic reality of propaganda and its effects. She does this through the ostentatious character of Nathan Price, a religious zealot placed in Kilanga on a mission to spread Christianity. He represents a poisoned mind, corrupted by the beliefs of his government. In Barbara Kingsolver s The Poisonwood Bible, Nathan Price s despotic personality is the result of exposure to American propaganda and government prior to his years in the Congo. Nathan s behavior and personality is the main antagonist in The Poisonwood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unable to realistically view history and imperialism, Nathan believes the US to be the Congo s savior, He believes that civilization comes to Africa only from without, from its colonizers who import their superior cultures: The Belgians and American business brought civilization to the Congo! American aid will be the Congo s salvation (Strehle 417). He attempts to civilize Kilanga himself but fails to understand those that he is trying to change, much like imperialist America. Use to the effect that his preaching had in a country in which he understood and accepted the culture, Nathan s ineffectiveness in Kilanga leads him to the conclusion that the Congolese are the problem and not him, In the distorted evolutionary logic of nineteenth century imperialism, Nathan considers Africa as inadequately evolved, backward, primitive a childish culture dwarfed by its grown up Western colonizers and thus in need of help from the advanced West. As Leah puts it, My father thinks the Congo is just lagging behind and he can bring it up to snuff (Strehle 418). First off, the principle of non maleficence is violated as physicians should strive not to harm patients. For case A2, the doctor allowed the patient s serious condition to worsen while knowing that the disease is treatable, only for the sake of observing how the disease progresses. The doctor blatantly places the patient in harm simply to fulfil his own curiosity and research progress, rendering his actions considered to be violating the principles of non maleficence. Second, the doctor also violated the principle of beneficence. As a doctor, we should do what is best for the health of the patients, treating patients in the ways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start off, the doctor has violated the principle of autonomy as he ignored the woman s wishes which are fully supported by her family. Having a sound mind and the ability to make decisions, the patient should have her will respected by doctors. In the case, despite the fact that the patient s family verbally told the doctor about the patient s will to go home, her decision is not respected by the doctor, who kept her hospitalised until she dies. Autonomy means that the key decisions of a person s life should be determined by the patient herself if possible. Given that in the case, the patient is already terminally ill and in the end stage of life, her will to go home should be respected by the doctor, rendering the doctor s action a violation of the principle of autonomy. Second, the principle of beneficence is also violated. Beneficence means doing what is beneficial to the patient. This, however, is not only limited to the promotion of good health, but also doing what the patient judges to be beneficial. In the case, the patient deems that going home and die in her own bed, surrounded by her family is more beneficial to her than having a few more weeks to live. While the controls to help mitigate the risk have become increasingly sophisticated, so too have the methods in which employees, managers and even third parties defraud victim entities. While some industries seem more at risk than others it is important to recognize the vulnerability that is common to all of them. One industry that seems to be able to avoid the worst of fraudulent acts is the Transportation Industry. Through use of time tested control methods and avant garde procedures to help mitigate business risk, the industry is able to consistently place ahead of others in rates of fraud occurrences. The permanent threat of terrorism creates an element of uncertainty when it comes to an airline company s operations. There are significant challenges to implement effective security and risk management systems. Large investments in required infrastructures are correlated to these challenges (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). There is also a strong demand for public transport recently as a result of environmental awareness and congestion. Railroads have difficulty meeting this demand because of a limited infrastructure capacity. This public transport competes with roads for investment funds and many planning processes for railroad projects take a long time to deliver (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). The shipping subsector contributes an extreme amount to global transportation and logistics. • 8. Music, Violence, and Identity in Anthony Burgess’A... Music, Violence, and Identity in Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange Linking the fundamental conflict between individual identity and societal identity with musical imagery in Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange creates a lens through which one can recognize the tendency that violence has to destroy an individual s identity. Although Alex clearly associates violence with his own individual identity and sense of self, he consistently reveals the impossibility of remaining an individual in the face of group oriented violence. Images drawn from the realm of music parallel the destruction of Alex s identity, either through conformity to a group s style of violence or through failure to embrace the homogeneity of group actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the development of Beethoven s symphony soon puts a different interpretation on what appears, at first glance, to be Alex s individual act of violence. After the solo bass intones an introduction, soloists and then a full chorus and orchestra join the soloist, unified in singing the same poem. What initially seems like an individual remaining separate from a group does not remain so for very long. As other soloists join the solo bass, the singers declare that Men throughout the world are brothers/ In the haven of thy [joy s] wings. 2 If Alex truly does believe his violent act to be joyful, then the joy of violence blinds men throughout the world in a brotherhood. The image of the tigers (plural) leaping up inside Alex, also representing the group character of his act, reinforces the binding nature of violence. Alex s supposedly individual act gets absorbed into a universal brotherhood. The nature of the orchestral music chosen to accompany particular stages of Alex s narrative further underlines the process by which violence causes the diminishment of individual identity, by compelling obedience to a group. When Alex fancies this new violin concerto by the American Geoffrey Plautus (32), he envisions vecks and ptitsas, both young and starry, lying on the ground screaming for mercy, and I was smecking all over my rot and grinding my boot in their listos (33). Although a violin concerto might suggest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Essay On Mozart Effect The Mozart Effect, broadly stated, is the idea that music can help with many other aspects of a student s education. Its research started decades ago and is still highly debated today, with some condition to the findings. However, in Bob Duke s article, he explains why it doesn t matter whether of not it helps tests scores. He believes we should not be using this as an excuse for keeping music programs because there are countless better reasons. Duke s article highly reinforced why I personally believe music education is so important and why I can t wait to be a part of it. The Mozart Effect theory first started with research based on the effect of music on the brain. One of the first to test this was Gordon Shaw and his student Xiaodan ... In this study, those who listened to Mozart had a higher average test score. As for the other study, they measured brain wave activity within college students two times, one time after they listened to a Mozart sonata and once after listening to no music. Lerch and Dr. Anderson stated that The EEG recordings were somewhat correlated with the students performance, as increased brain activity was associated with an increase in spatial reasoning performance after listening to the Mozart . After this research, the book The Mozart Effect: Tapping the Power of Music to Heal the Body, Strengthen the Mind and Unlock the Creative Spirt was written by Don Campbell in 2002. According to Donna Lerch and Dr. Thomas Anderson of The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, his book claimed that listening to the music of Mozart could raise your intelligence quotient. As for Bob Duke s article, he discussed why we shouldn t base the whole reasoning for keeping music education on tests scores. Even if music may help raise tests scores or make students smarted, we should not be defending it in this way. Duke explains that if we continue to do this, we are basing the whole future of music education on test scores. In Raymond Carver s short story What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, he shows us the realism behind the true meaning of love with a menacing tone. This story particularly shows how different people may have different definitions of it that reflect who they are as a person by using strangle dialogue given by the characters and situations that reveal symbolic items. From the ironic remarks and slight rebuttals in this story, one could infer that the topic of love can bring the worst out of people. Through this story, Carver shows love through the lives of his characters, suggesting that each love is different, and all people have different views on it. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost all of Carver s stories have characters that have been through disturbing or weird events and is brought up by the symbolism used in his work. The symbolism in this story happens several times, mainly with the role of sunlight. Sunlight in this story represents the good and clarity in the room and conversation. At the beginning of the story, the light filled the kitchen from the big window behind the sink, and this shows how calm and happy the setting was before they talked about love (Carver 334). Any time the sunlight is mentioned, the characters are happy and are full of comfort. As the story progresses, and as the characters continue to talk about love, the light slowly leaves the room as a sense of all the innocent of the conversation fading away until the room was fully dark. Even though the sunlight is a major symbol, alcohol is also one. Carver uses alcohol to brighten the flexibility of conversation. When the bottle of gin is full the conversation is flowing but at the end when Mel spills his glass, it shows the end of the conversation. This is important as it shows an example of Carver using alcohol as a rhythmic device. It also shows the thought of Mel and Terri having difficulty mentioning past relationships without the help of alcohol, using the alcohol to hide their true feelings. The gin could ... • 19. The Lottery Summary In the story The Lottery , it s tradition, every year on June 27th to have the head of each household choose a slip of paper from the black box. The family whose head of household chooses the coal marked slip of paper picks again. The person in the houshold who picks the paper with the coal mark is stoned to death by everyone in the village. As I read the story I examined the characters and how they felt about this tradition. At the start of the story, the author, Shirley Jackson, explains how the people in the village prepared for the lottery and how people gathered to the town square for the event. At this point none of the characters acted like something horrible was about to happen. They were casual. Then the author went on to explain how the lottery worked, leaving out details about the prize. While also advancing the plot to the lottery s commencement. As the story moved forward the mood got more tense and suspenseful. While names were being called Jackson explained how the villagers started to get more nervous while choosing out of the box. It seems like they were trying to hide how anxious they were actually feeling. After everyone had chosen, it was the Hutchinsons. They had to pick again. Tessie Hutchinson chose the coal marked paper. She started to object the tradition, once it was her who was going to die that day due to the lottery. In lines 15 21, the story explains how the children start collecting rocks, for what we dont know, the lottery. The author does not make it clear to us that someone is going to die. The characters act like this is a normal thing. Another example, lines 25 37. No one is having second thoughts or protesting. They are assembling in the town square. Soon the men began to gather... speaking of planting and rain, tractors and taxes. There are normal conversations among the villagers being held. Mrs. Hutchinson ends up being late, she walks in very calmly. She even makes a joke, Wouldn t have me leave m dishes in the sink, now, would you, Joe. The mystery of what this lottery really is persists throughout the story. As the story continued, you can tell that there s something odd about this lottery. most of them were quiet, wetting their lips, not looking around. . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to portray his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and allows for Hughes message to effectively be conveyed. In line 10 Hughes writes, He made the poor piano moan with melody. The usage of personification in this line gives the piano human characteristics and readers can understand that the music the African American is playing is melancholy. The dramatic personification clearly sets the mood of the poem. Line 10 is a metaphor as well, describing the piano as a poor piano which helps create an image for the reader. From the poem and its expressive language, readers find out that the man is singing the blues, which is known to be a sad and depressing genre. Throughout the poem, the black man is singing about his life and how it s filled with loneliness, troubles, and unhappiness. This was probably a common feeling throughout many African Americans at the time due to social restrictions and their suppressed lives. In line 35 Hughes writes, He slept like a rock or a man that s dead. The powerful simile here ends the poem in an effective way. Rainsford is very apprehensive himself, because he fears Zaroff will find him and kill him. Even so zealous a hunter as General Zaroff could not trace him there, he told himself; only the devil himself could follow that complicated trail through the jungle after dark. But, perhaps the general was a devil (pg.32). The night and a wounded snake are compared by using a simile, because a wounded snake moves slow and the night is moving slow for Rainsford. Art equals something that is beautiful then it is true and leads the person experiencing it, to the good. While this may be the classical definition of art it is not quite accurate. To think that something is true and good just because it is beautiful is not right. There are three critiques of this definition which define art in a different light. The pharmacy plays a crucial role in the hospital because without it, physicians and nurses wouldn t be able to treat their patients effectively. The pharmacy is essential to the treatment of disease, since the pharmacy is the site where both intravenous and pill medications such as chemotherapy and antibiotics are made and dispensed according to what patient needs. At the hospital, the pharmacy takes care of both inpatients and outpatients for both prescriptions and over the counter medications. Summary Of Id, Ego, And Superego In Fablehaven The book series Fablehaven accurately portrays the three parts of the psychic apparatus, id, ego, and superego, created by Sigmund Freud amongst the three main characters. Kendra, the first main character introduced, represents the ego because at times she must determine to follow the rules and play it safe or break the rules to help her family. Seth, the second main character introduced, represents the id as he constantly acts on his own impulses without any regard to the rules which usually lands him in trouble. The last main character introduced, Grandpa, represents the superego since he always follow the rules of the preserve, as well as teaching them to Kendra and Seth, to ensure the safety of them all from the fable creatures. Kendra, Seth, and Grandpa create perfect examples of Sigmund Freud s id, ego, and superego. Kendra, the first character revealed to the reader, demonstrates the psychic apparatus the ego by representing the reason in situations that commonly occur between the Id and the Superego. The ego must make a choice between listening to the id or following the superego. Depending on the situation, if the ego sides with the id the superego can make the ego feel guilty. In the story Kendra, after weighing the odds and letting her personal id get the better of her, decides to follow Seth into the woods even though it stands against their grandfather s will. Upon the return of their sneaky adventure they think that they made it back without anyone noticing they left; however, that night at dinner their grandfather openly asks What do you suppose makes people so eager to break rules?
